Lil Nas X is WSJ. Magazine’s MUSIC INNOVATOR of the Year!
Lil Nas X covers WSJ. Magazine’s highly anticipated November Innovator’s Issue, out on newsstands Saturday, November 13th.
The 22-year-old’s single “Old Town Road” was a huge debut, and now he’s one of the most-streamed artists in the world. With his first album, Montero, he’s blowing up the charts—along with the old rules for success.
The past year has been a total rebuke to those who thought “Old Town Road,” the kid-friendly pop culture juggernaut he released in December 2018 while crashing on his sister’s couch, would make him a one- hit wonder. By publicly embracing his queer identity, hopscotching musical genres seamlessly and playing social media like a game for keeps, Lil Nas X has surprisingly emerged as a generational talent, someone who continues to break ground.
Nas on the success of his album and his wild year: “I’m at the best place I’ve ever been in life, but I always feel like I’m one step away from where I want to be,” he says.
Nas on his controversy-courting: “You take certain things like kissing a guy onstage: I know that’s going to be something that’s talked about. But let’s get into the root cause of why it’s being talked about,” he says.
Nas on his Twitter obsession: Twitter is where Nas goes to work and to play, but he also describes it as his home. After years of obsessive use, he now feels invincible on the platform. “Anybody who tries to s— on me on Twitter, it’s just not gonna work,” he says.
Nas on trying psychedelic mushrooms while working on his current album: Nas worked on the album throughout the pandemic with Take a Daytrip at Airbnbs in California. He says a pivotal moment in the process was trying psychedelic mushrooms for the first time. Baptiste and Biral sat by Nas’s side sober and talked to him throughout the day, occasionally taking dips in the pool and hot tub but not working on any music, just reflecting on life. Nas loved the trip and says it allowed him to push past lots of lingering feelings of self-consciousness. “I was able to open up a lot,” he says. “I was able to write actual stories about my life and put it into my music. I actually did that for the first time.”
Nas on his first feature for another artist: He wants to make sure his first feature for another artist is a special event, but knows that it’s not a make-or-break moment. “I didn’t need a co-sign to get into the music industry, I don’t need one to stay or anything,” he says.
Nas on wanting to spend his money on others: He also wants to give away more of his newfound money, saying he doesn’t really enjoy shopping for himself. When he signed his recording contract, he says he bought a Burberry jacket for about $2,000 and almost immediately regretted it: “What was the point? To post it on Instagram once?” He says the house he bought in California last year hasn’t been filled with much furniture yet, and he’d rather take his friends or family members out on shopping sprees instead.
Nas on not wanting to date right now: He doesn’t want to date someone right now. Even though the video for “That’s What I Want,” has him performing in a wedding dress and pining for someone to cuddle with, he just got out of a relationship and says he’s not ready to date again. He laughs when he recalls that all of the exes he wrote about on the album were at his album release party. (He says only one of them took offense at the portrayal of their relationship on the album.)
Nas on his ultimate goal: “At the end of the day, I want to exist,” he says. “I want to have fun, I want to cause chaos sometimes. I want a long, legendary, fun life.”
#RHOA: NeNe Leakes Has Slashed The Price Of Her Home!
Less than a month after listing her Georgia home, Nene Leakes is already slashing the price, The Post has learned.
The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star initially put the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom abode up for sale at $4 million. But the Duluth home received a price cut of $200,000 last Tuesday.
Leakes, 53, put the home on the market nearly two months after her husband, Gregg Leakes, died of colon cancer. He was 66.
The two shared the home since 2015, when they purchased it for $2.1 million. When they moved into the residence, the property was not yet completed, and it had to undergo a series of renovations.
An hour outside of Atlanta, this is the first home that Leakes purchased with her late husband.
Spanning a massive 10,000 square feet, the Mediterranean-style abode is set on a golf course lots with resort-style features. The main level has a walk-out pool with a waterfall accompanied by a full wraparound covered patio, according to the listing.
Amenities include a remodeled basement with an entertainment bar, custom wall seating for guests, wine storage, movie theater, game room and a beauty salon.
Nene and Gregg, who have a 22-year-old son named Brentt, were married from 1997 until their 2011 divorce. The couple later reconciled and tied the knot for the second time in 2013, which was filmed for a Bravo wedding special. Nene is also mom to son Bryson, 31, from a previous relationship.
In an interview with People, Leakes revealed the last words that her husband said before he passed away. “‘I’m not going to leave you. God is going to bless you,’” she recalled. “He said he wanted me to move on with my life.”

#HipHopNews: Fat Trel Reveals He Met With Rick Ross After 'Pleasant Surprise' Prison Release!
Now that Fat Trel is back home after serving time in prison for an illegal gun charge, the rapper can live his life and do everyday activities he hasn’t been able to do. One of those things was linking up with an old friend.
During a recent interview with REVOLT posted on Monday (November 1), Fat Trel revealed that one of the first things he did after being released from prison was meet up with his former label boss, Rick Ross. According to Fat Trel, the friendship is still going strong despite him leaving MMG.
“I actually just met up with [Rick Ross]. That’s my big homie, that’s my dog, forever. I look at Ross like a father figure. We’re actually supposed to be having some talks about some new situations, but it’s a lot of deals on the table,” Trel told Revolt. “It’s a lot of opportunities for me right now, and I’m just taking my time since I’m just now back … to see what’s the best situation for Fat Trel.”
Rick Ross signed Fat Trel back in 2013, but he has since left the label. He had released only one project under MMG, 2014’s Gleesh, but he soon ran into legal troubles that landed him in prison. In July 2018, Fat Trel was arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition after police pulled him over for traffic violations and found a “ghost gun” in his car.
Fat Trel pleaded guilty for the illegal possession of a ghost gun in 2020 and was facing a maximum of 10 years in prison but only received two years and six months in federal prison and three years of supervised release. In an Instagram post last month, the Biggest Boss embraced Trel upon his release from prison.
The Rev Jesse Jackson is hospitalized after fall at a protest at Howard University!
CHICAGO (AP) — The Rev. Jesse Jackson was hospitalized Monday in Washington, D.C. after falling and hitting his head while helping Howard University students who are protesting living conditions on campus, according to a spokesman.
The 80-year-old Chicago civil rights leader was entering a campus building when he fell and hit his head, according to Jackson spokesman Frank Watkins.
Jackson's staff took him to Howard University Hospital for various tests including a CT scan which came back normal. Watkins said Jackson would be kept at the hospital overnight for observation.
“Family, he’s resting comfortably and doing well,” Santita Jackson, one of Jackson's daughters, posted on Twitter along with a story from The Grio about his fall.
Jackson was attending a meeting with Howard President Wayne A.I. Frederick and the students, who were discussing their complaints about living conditions, according to Watkins.
Jackson, who has Parkinson's disease, has already been hospitalized twice this year. He checked into a Chicago hospital for a breakthrough COVID-19 infection in August and required weeks of physical therapy as COVID affected his Parkinson’s and his ability to walk and talk. He also underwent gallbladder surgery earlier in the year.
Since being released from the hospital for COVID-19 treatment and physical therapy, Jackson has resumed an active travel and public speaking schedule.

The Real Housewives of Dubai Is Coming to Bravo in 2022!
For the first time since Bravo's first Real Housewives series, The Real Housewives of Orange County, debuted in 2006, the franchise is going international. Yes, The Real Housewives of Dubai is really happening.
On the Today show on Monday, November 1, executive producer and Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen dropped the big news. The Real Housewives of Dubai will be the 11th city added to the franchise, which helped solidify Bravo as a reality-TV juggernaut in the aughts. The other series in the Real Housewives franchise include (or have included) Orange County, New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, Beverly Hills, Miami, Washington, D.C., Potomac, Dallas, and Salt Lake City. (Remember when Bravo was a channel that aired operas and symphonies? It has come so far since those days.) “This is going to blow the lid off of the entire franchise," Cohen said on Today.
“Everything's bigger in Dubai, and I couldn't be more excited to launch Bravo's first international Housewives series in a city I've been fascinated by for years, with an outstanding group of friends as our guides,” Cohen said in a statement.
According to a synopsis from Bravo, The Real Housewives of Dubai will follow a “group of women navigating their relationships, careers, and supremely lavish and ultra-wealthy lifestyles in the United Arab Emirates. With the desert paradise of Dubai as the backdrop, this billionaire's playground is known for its over-the-top opulence, jaw-dropping modern architecture, and wild nightlife scene. Whether they're coasting on a private plane, running their own empires, or hosting on a private island, these glamorous, successful women are ready to serve up scorching hot drama and unexpected twists.”
Although Dubai will be Bravo's first international Real Housewives city, there are a few international versions not produced by the network including Australia's The Real Housewives of Melbourne and England's The Real Housewives of Cheshire. There is not a specific premiere date, but The Real Housewives of Dubai is expected to come to Bravo in 2022. There is also no announcement on the cast, but it needs to be said: Lindsay Lohan lives in Dubai.
Damon Dash ready to end Jay- Z feud after rapper’s Hall of Fame shout-out!
Damon Dash says he’s ready to end his 20-year feud with his Roc-A-Fella records co-founder Jay-Z — after the rapper offered an “olive branch” by thanking him during his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The pair turned the music industry on its head in 1995 when they set up the business as Jay-Z struggled to find a spot on a major label. But as the “Empire State of Mind” rapper’s career exploded and the label was sold off piece by piece, their friendship collapsed into a bitter feud.
But on Saturday, Jay-Z put their differences aside and thanked Dash in his speech. “Shout out to Dame,” he said at Rocket Mortgage Field House in Cleveland, “I know we don’t see eye-to-eye, but I can never erase your accomplishments. And I appreciate you and I thank you for that.” He also thanked late rapper Biggie Smalls and said, “I appreciate you guys. Thank you for our journey. Thank you. Thank you for your contribution to this journey.”
“It was beautiful,” Dash told Page Six, admitting he was surprised to hear his one-time friend mention him. “I’m glad he said it for the culture. We need to squash everything. So hopefully if that was an extended [olive branch] I’ll spin one back.”
“I have no beef with [him] if [he has] no beef with me,” he added, “Let’s get the lawyers out of it then. Let’s talk like men, but I definitely appreciate it.”
The rivals’ latest battle has been a pair of lawsuits over Dash’s attempt to sell Rock-A-Fella’s first release — Jay-Z’s “Reasonable Doubt — as an NFT. Dash called Hova a “liar” and a “bully” amid the spat.
Jay-Z and former Roc-A-Fella business partner Damon Dash have had a beef for two decades.

“I would never want you to think that we have to go to the court to resolve anything,” he added, “We can talk it out and the culture needs to see two strong black men working out a problem. Even if they worked together they can go their separate ways they can still be cool.”
He said that he’s always considered the rapper to be a brother. “We should not be divided. We have accomplished too much to be beefing… There ain’t no way I’m never gonna [not] consider [him] my brother — it’s just that we don’t see eye-to-eye.”
Dash also sounded his own note of gratitude.
“That means I’m in the Hall of Fame,” he said, “Whether we cool or not, him getting in the Hall of Fame is major. So congratulations to us, congratulations to him and thank you [to him] for keep working so hard to where he got to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Anything he can do to make me great, so thank you for even continuing to strive. He keeps my name alive.”

Kobe Bryant estate makes $400 million from BodyArmor sale to Coca-Cola!
Kobe Bryant’s family continues to benefit from the late NBA legend’s smart investments. On Monday (Nov. 1), Coca-Cola announced it spent $5.6 billion to purchase the remaining 85 percent controlling stake in BodyArmor, which Bryant was a major investor in. The beverage giant made the announcement at exactly 8:24 a.m. PST in honor of the Los Angeles Lakers star.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Bryant’s estate made around $400 million from the sale. Bryant was an early investor in BodyArmor, purchasing a 10 percent stake in the company for $6 million in March of 2014. At the time, the celebrated basketball player was the third-largest investor in the brand.
Vanessa Bryant says she learned of Kobe and Gianna’s deaths on social media
“If it wasn’t for Kobe Bryant’s vision and belief, BodyArmor would not have been able to achieve the success we had,” BodyArmor co-founder Mike Repole said in a statement.
The BodyArmor sale reportedly marks Coke’s largest beverage brand acquisition to date. The company previously bought Glaceau SmartWater for $4.1 billion in 2007 and spent $5.1 billion to buy Costa Coffee in 2018. That same year, Coke bought its initial 15 percent stake in BodyArmor, becoming the brand’s second-largest shareholder just above Bryant.
On Monday, Coca-Cola North America President Alfredo Rivera said the company is now planning BodyArmor’s “next stage of growth” and expects the brand to generate around $1.4 billion in sales this year. BodyArmor is currently the No. 2 sports drink, Coke said, following behind only Gatorade. The No. 3 sports drink is Powerade, which Coke also owns.
Vanessa Bryant, Bryant’s wife, has worked to keep her husband’s legacy alive and has managed several of his business ventures since his tragic death. Last month, she filed a trademark application for “KB24” in plans to launch a multi-media sports enterprise, which will reportedly include sports cards, food and drink containers and T-shirts.
Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others sadly passed away last January in a helicopter crash while en route to the Mamba Sports Academy for a basketball game.
Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl scandal explored in new FX doc ‘Malfunction’!
Janet Jackson’s infamous 2004 Super Bowl Nipplegate scandal will be immortalized in an upcoming documentary.
FX and Hulu are teaming up with the New York Times to bring fans “Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson.”
The team behind the show is the same that launched “Framing Britney Spears,” a documentary about the pop star’s yearslong conservatorship.
The new doc will debut Nov. 19. at 10 p.m. Eastern simultaneously on both FX and Hulu.
The movie will dive deep into the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show incident, which saw Justin Timberlake expose Jackson’s breast on live TV in front of millions upon millions of viewers.
The doc will also look into the racial and cultural aspects that influenced attention around the alleged wardrobe malfunction. It will show rare footage and interviews with several people who were at the helm of the show in Houston on that fateful night. These include NFL and MTV executives as well as insights from music industry insiders, cultural critics and members of the Jackson family. The film will even examine former CBS executive Les Moonves’ role in the scandal.
The Nipplegate scandal will be examined in the upcoming documentary “Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson.”
A source told Page Six earlier this year that the upcoming doc is “going to be all about the fallout and the suits who f–ked over Janet [at] Viacom.” They added, “They’re reaching out to everyone who was involved: dancers, stylists, directors. Everyone.” Neither Jackson nor Timberlake is taking part in the film.
Jackson, now 55, performed a medley of her hit tunes “All for You” and “Rhythm Nation” during the halftime show. Timberlake, 40, came out to the wide-eyed surprise of fans to sing his chart-topping single at the time, “Rock Your Body.”
At the end of the song, the former NSYNC frontman ripped off a piece of Jackson’s bodice, exposing her right breast. Despite her nipple being covered by a pasty, CBS frantically cut to a wide shot to prevent further damage.
The pop culture moment has been cemented in the brains of music and football lovers everywhere. The Federal Communications Commission received over 540,000 complaints about the show at the time. CBS was fined $550,000 by the FCC, although the Supreme Court ruled in 2012 that the fine was invalid and shouldn’t be paid.
The film will feature rare interviews with people who were involved with the 2004 football event.
Timberlake told MTV two years after the performance, “I probably got 10 percent of the blame. I think America’s probably harsher on women, and I think America is, you know, unfairly harsh on ethnic people.”
Earlier this year, the “Cry Me a River” crooner apologized to Spears and Jackson again after the release of “Framing Britney Spears.” His apology read, “I care for and respect these women and I know I failed.”
‘Tiger King’ Star Carole Baskin Sues Netflix Over “Odious” Sequel Series’ “Unauthorized” Footage Use!
If you had any doubt whether there was going to be drama galore out of Tiger King 2, Big Cat Rescue boss Carole Baskin has taken a legal bite out of Netflix more than two weeks before the sequel series’ debut.
In a curt complaint filed in federal court in Florida on Monday, Baskin and her husband are aiming to shut down the streamer and series directors Rebecca Chaiklin and Eric Goode’s Royal Good Productions from launching the five-episode Tiger King 2 as-is on November 17. Essentially, the animal rights advocacy couple says Netflix and the filmmakers simply have no right to use any footage left over from 2020’s hugely successful and Emmy-nominated Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness under the deal they inked in back in 2016 and again in 2018. Period.
“Defendants’ unauthorized use of the film footage of the Baskins and Big Cat Rescue secured by Royal Goode Productions under the Appearance Releases will cause the Baskins irreparable injury for which the Baskins have no adequate remedy at law,” says the suit filed today by Tampa firm Johnson, Pope, Bokor, Ruppel & Burns LLP (read it here). It seeks an injunction, costs and more.
There was already friction between the streamer and directors and the couple over the Baskins’ contention reiterated today that “Tiger King 1 was particularly harsh and unfair in its depiction of the Baskins and Big Cat Rescue” and “the over-arching implication” that Baskin was involved in the disappearance of her first husband in 1997.
Now, it is a matter of the small print.
The jury-seeking complaint filed Monday states “understanding that the Appearance Releases limited Royal Goode Productions’ use of the footage of the Baskins and Big Cat Rescue to the single, initial documentary motion picture, the Baskins believed that any sequel – though odious – would not include any of their footage.”
And let’s be clear, once the subject of an attempted murder move by the now imprisoned Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin is all over the Tiger King 2 trailer that dropped last week.
Or, as Howard Baskin put it in a statement: While we cannot stop Netflix and Royal Goode Productions from producing low-brow, salacious and sensational programing, we do believe that we have the right to control footage filmed of us under false pretenses. We like to believe that most Americans will agree that we should be entitled to protect our reputations in this manner and hold entertainment giants to their word.
Netflix had no comment on this latest legal dust-up, a spokesperson told Deadline. As the days count down to the Tiger King 2 launch, the streamer will have to reply in court sooner or later.
Chris Pratt is voicing Garfield in a new movie!
Chris Pratt is apparently trying to corner the market on surprising voice roles. After landing the part of Mario in Nintendo's upcoming Super Mario Bros. film (and sparking a million Twitter jokes in the process), the Guardians of the Galaxy star is not content to rest. No, Pratt is now setting his eye on yet another animated pop-culture touchstone: everyone's favorite lasagna-eating, Mondays-hating feline.
Yes, that is correct: Pratt is voicing the comic cat Garfield in a new animated movie from Alcon Entertainment, which is being distributed by Sony. Finding Nemo writer David Reynolds is writing the script, with The Emperor's New Groove director Mark Dindal on board to direct.
This is not the first time that Jim Davis' iconic syndicated cat has been adapted for the screen: Bill Murray previously voiced him in 2004's Garfield and 2006's Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties. Unlike those films, the new Garfield movie will be entirely animated, and the rest of the cast has yet to be announced. (Charlie Day for Jon Arbuckle!?)
Pratt, of course, is no stranger to animated roles, having lent his voice to the LEGO Movie series and Onward. But his involvement in Garfield raises some questions: Will Pratt be adjusting his voice to differentiate between Mario and Garfield, or will they both now just sound like Andy Dwyer? Are there any similarities between the two roles? For example, does Mario also like lasagna, or am I making assumptions because he's Italian? How does he feel about Mondays?
Also, is there any method to Pratt's madness? Is he really trying to collect bizarre animated voice roles like some sort of voiceover Thanos? And if we are to continue with this analogy and accept Mario and Garfield as two of the six Infinity Stones, what are the other four? What's next, Chris Pratt as the voice of Bugs Bunny? Fred Flinstone? The Geico Gecko??? When will it end???????

Ed Sheeran Thought He Was Gay Growing Up Due to His ‘Big Feminine Side’!
Ed Sheeran shares why he thought he was gay while growing up.
Sheeran, 30, sat down for an interview with Dutch podcast “Man Man Man,” and while there, he opened up about his journey to understanding his sexuality growing up. The singer says he never felt “hugely masculine.”
Sheeran says there are only so many stereotypically-masculine things that he likes a man. “I definitely have a big feminine side. I love musical theatre. I love pop music. I love Britney Spears. My masculine side probably stops at drinking beer and watching football,” he said, Buzzfeed reports.
Because of his different interests, Sheeran, at one point, believed he was gay. “When I was a kid, I thought I was gay for a bit,” he shared. He went on to say that he’d rather watch women’s sports. “I watched it and I was like, ‘I don’t know why I watch male football, this is much better.’”
On top of that, he says cars don’t really catch his eye either. “I am not a car guy. I like a nice car, but I’m not a car guy.” His sexuality, he says, became a lot clearer when he met his wife. “But then, my wife is super pro-women and femininity. And so, as soon as we started dating, my life shifted to that,” said Sheeran.
“She plays in a female hockey team. We hang out with all the team. It’s very much women empowerment,” the singer added.
‘Teacher of the Year’ Charged with Child Abuse After Hitting Student Who Allegedly Called Her Out for Using the N-Word!
A Florida teacher named “Teacher of the Year” has been charged with child abuse just days after being honored.
On Friday, 60-year-old Caroline Melanie Lee, a teacher at Darnell-Cookman Middle/High School, was arrested for allegedly striking a minor in the face, leading to the child getting a nosebleed. The incident resulted in Lee being charged with child abuse and being stripped of her “Teacher of the Year” title,” which she received just days prior.
Lee allegedly hit the child after being called out on Instagram. In the comments, a person questioned why she was named Teacher of the Year, claiming Lee previously used the N-word. However, Lee said she only used the word when reading from John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice and Men.” She also denies ever hitting a child.
The alleged incident happened when Lee asked to speak with the student alone, who allegedly was the commenter. The student, who isn’t a part of any of her classes, claims that’s when Lee hit her several times. Lee reportedly said the Instagram post could have been detrimental to her life, but she added that she is not “afraid” and didn’t “feel the need” to report the message to the school.
In a report, a responding offer said school surveillance footage showed the teacher “walking at an aggressive pace” to her classroom before the incident with the student. About four minutes later, Fox News reports that the student was allegedly seen leaving the classroom, holding her face and walking with a “low demeanor” to a guidance counselor’s office. The student then reported the alleged incident.
In a statement, Duval Schools Superintendent Diana Greene said, “what is alleged should never occur — ever — especially in a school setting.”
