Halsey for The Advocate - February/ March 2020!
Appearing in a cover shoot for The Advocate, popular artist Halsey has paid tribute to David Bowie, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix.
The shoot, the magazine reveals, was the artist’s own idea.
“She was thrilled to pay homage to the legends that inspired her,” representatives of The Advocate have shared.
They also reveal that the 25-year-old, who also goes under the name of Ashley Frangipane, did her own makeup, emulating David Bowie’s own “Life On Mars’ era style with unerring accuracy.
“This is something I want to do,” the Frangipane shared of the images. “As a performer, I have looked up to or looked into those men – looking for a form of identity building for so long. It never really occurred to me that I shouldn’t.”
Halsey’s narrative of an artist as one built upon questions arising from bisexual identity, one which would not be too hard to parallel with David Bowie’s own Ziggy Stardust era persona.
“I’m gay and always have been,” David Bowie famously remarked to Melody Maker magazine in 1972, “even when I was David Jones.”
When his interviewer then remarked that Bowie appeared to be wearing what they thought to be a woman’s dress, David was quick to correct them.
“Oh dear,” he replied, “You must understand that it’s not a woman’s. It’s a man’s dress.”
The 25-year-old also identifies as being bi-racial and has publicly detailed her experiences suffering from bipolar disorder.
Halsey also appears as Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger during the shoot but it was Bob Dylan who inspired to pick up the guitar.
“[Dylan] is a poet who has a way of expressing his emotion in a way that makes people feel something,” she shared. “I still don’t really consider myself a very good singer. I’m a poet. And me being a singer is a symptom of me being a writer.”

#HipHopNews: Juice Wrld Has 2,000 Unreleased Songs For Possible Posthumous Projects!
Juice WRLD’s music will live on. The late rapper reportedly had tons of music waiting in the vault. Sources close to Juice tell TMZ that he had recorded around 2,000 unreleased tracks prior to his death last month. Some of that material could find its way onto future projects. His team is discussing ways to honor his unreleased work, including a posthumous album.
The prolific MC was constantly recording, whether at home or on the road. If he wasn’t riding his dirt bike, he was in the studio.
Last week, 26 of Juice’s unreleased songs were leaked online, but they were quickly removed. Most of his music was stored securely, but he would sometimes go to the studio and download tracks onto hard drives. His team believes that’s what led to the leak.
Juice WRLD’s sophomore album Death Race for Love was released in March 2019 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. He can currently be heard on Eminem’s Music to Be Murdered By track “Godzilla,” which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Other rappers including XXXTentacion and Mac Miller have both released posthumous albums, which have topped the charts. Miller’s Circles debuted at No. 3 with 164,000 equivalent album units, the largest week of his career.
Juice WRLD died last month from an accidental overdose of oxycodone and codeine at Chicago’s Midway Airport.
Rihanna Posts Heartfelt Photo Of Kobe And Gianna Bryant!
The world was left in a state of shock over the tragic death of Kobe Bryant. The reverberations of his devastating loss has continued to be felt around the world as the unfortunate the somber news settles in our collective consciousness. While many people continue to try to make sense of the tragedy, those most deeply impacted by the NBA legend’s sudden passing have taken to social media to share their favorite anecdotes, clips and mementos in remembrance of the 41-year-old.
Most notably, longtime supporters have found solace in the timeless words of encouragement and advice, collectively referred to as Mamba Mentality, that Bryant famously imparted throughout his career.
Others have continued to struggle to come to terms with his death, such as Barbadian superstar Rihanna, who opened up about how she’s coping following the late global icon’s death in a heartbreaking post on Instagram Monday night (Jan. 28)
“Still doesn’t feel real,” Rih wrote to her 78 million followers on the social platform. She then shared that she’s still struggling to find the right words to express her full range of emotions, adding “We miss you man!”
Rih concluded her thoughts as she asked God to shower the Bryant family as well as those of the other seven passengers that perished in the ill-fated helicopter crash on Sunday morning (Jan. 26.)
“May God have mercy on the Bryant family and the families of all the souls we lost!” she finished. Along with the note, Rih posted a heartrending throwback photo of Bryant holding Gianna following the Lakers 2009 championship win. In the photo, the former Los Angeles Lakers superstar is lovingly smiling at his daughter as she squeezes his face.
An outpouring of love and support has continued to swell in for the families who lost their loved ones alongside Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Maria-Onore Bryant.
'The Conners' Will Likely Be Renewed for Season 3, But Which Cast Members Will Return?
It's looking like The Conners will be getting a third season, although it's currently unclear which cast members will be sticking around. ABC has started to negotiate with the producers of the Roseanne revival/spinoff. Apparently, while most shows are offered six-year contracts, the nature of The Conners means its a year-to-year renewal.
"We are deep in conversations with the cast and the producers," said ABC Entertainment President Karey Burke at the TCA earlier this month.
"We would be crazy not to renew The Conners. It performs incredibly well for us, it's our second-highest-rated show, neck-and-neck with Modern Family. We expect it would be back for another season."
Members of The Conners production team were also cautiously optimistic about the chances of a third season, though none came close to confirming anything.
"We are very pleased with how the show is doing and I'm confident that the network will pick up the show for another year... hopeful anyway," executive producer Tom Werner said. "My sense is that there is a lot of enthusiasm about what we are doing and the actors hopefully will come back."
Fellow executive producer and star Sarah Gilbert said simply that "we are hopeful" for a round three.
Showrunner Bruce Helford, who's also an EP, said that "we are always prepared to go another year."
"Everyone is pretty happy, the atmosphere is really warm, it's really nice, we do good work, we have the best actors in the whole world, and we love writing for them," Helford added.
Gilbert, who plays Darlene, is one of the four core castmembers who each received a significant pay increase from the first season to the second. Now, co-stars John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson and Gilbert are reportedly negotiating another pay bump to come back once again. Although there's no word that any of the negotiations aren't going well.
As far as the show's second season goes, there have been no shortage of guest stars. While Cheryl Hines delighted fans tonight with her portrayal of Dawn, the restaurant supplier who was hot-to-trot for Jackie (Metcalf), next month will see Shameless star Joel Fisher portraying Dan's half-brother "Little Ed." Fisher's Shameless co-star Emma Kenney also has a recurring role as Harris, the child of Darlene (Gilbert) and David (Johnny Galecki).
The Conners airs every Tuesday night on ABC.

“Friends” Star David Schwimmer Says He Campaigned For His Character To ‘Date Women Of Color’!
“Friends” is one of the many 90s classics that have made their way back into the culture thanks to streaming services like Netflix.
The entire series, which aired from 1994-2004, was available on Netflix until Jan. 1 of this year, giving Millennials and younger generations a chance to witness the show. Still, what many witnessed was the lack of diversity and alleged homophobic and body-shaming banter and jokes.
Star David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller, spoke about the dynamics of the series and revealed he pushed show heads to cast a woman of color as his girlfriend, which seemed to work.
“I was well aware of the lack of diversity and I campaigned for years to have Ross date women of color. One of the first girlfriends I had on the show was an Asian American woman, and later I dated African American women. That was a very conscious push on my part.”
The African American woman he dated was Charlie Wheeler, played by Aisha Tyler, and the Asian American woman he dated was Julie, played by Lauren Tom.
David Schwimmer added, “It’s interesting also how the show handled the Judaism of the characters. I don’t think that was earth-shattering or groundbreaking at all, but I for one was glad that we had at least one episode where it wasn’t just about Christmas. It was also Hanukkah and, even though I played the Hanukkah armadillo” – Ross wore an armadillo costume – “I was glad that we at least acknowledged the differences in religious observation.”
Despite the side-eyes, David Schwimmer is adamant about honoring the series as a whole and said the current criticism can’t take away from the success of the show.
“I don’t care. The truth is also that show was groundbreaking in its time for the way in which it handled so casually sex, protected sex, gay marriage, and relationships. The pilot of the show was my character’s wife left him for a woman and there was a gay wedding, of my ex and her wife, that I attended.”
“I feel that a lot of the problem today in so many areas is that so little is taken in context. You have to look at it from the point of view of what the show was trying to do at the time. I’m the first person to say that maybe something was inappropriate or insensitive, but I feel like my barometer was pretty good at that time. I was already really attuned to social issues and issues of equality.”
He added, “Maybe there should be an all-black Friends or an all-Asian Friends.”
What do you think about David Schwimmer’s remarks?

Philadelphia man surrenders after Allen Iverson's backpack stolen with $500G in jewelry inside!
A 20-year-old man surrendered to police after he reportedly stole $500,000 in jewelry from former NBA star Allen Iverson at a Philadelphia hotel.
Police say Christopher Daniel is now facing multiple charges of theft.
A spokesman for the Iverson, an NBA Hall of Fame guard, issued a statement Tuesday, 24 hours after the alleged theft took place.
"As of today, the jewelry that was stolen from Allen Iverson has been found and the suspect has been apprehended," the statement said. "Allen thanks the Philadelphia Police Department along with the people of Philadelphia for their support in this matter. Thank you."
Iverson was at the Sofitel Hotel in downtown Philadelphia when the suspect grabbed the backpack containing the pricey jewelry from a chair in the hotel lobby around 10:30 a.m. on Monday and fled the scene, according to reports by WPVI.
He later returned the backpack with the stolen goods to authorities when he surrendered.
Selena Gomez Says Justin Bieber Was Emotionally Abusive To Her!
Selena Gomez says Justin Bieber emotionally abused her when they were dating.
In a new interview with NPR, Gomez opened up about her on-again, off-again relationship with fellow singer Justin Bieber. The former couple first became official back in 2011 and ended their love affair in 2018. But Gomez says the relationship was filled with so much emotional abuse that she had to escape. “I’ve found the strength in it. It’s dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I’m not being disrespectful; I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse,” said Gomez.
She continued: “I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. As much as I definitely don’t want to spend the rest of my life talking about this, I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I’ve ever felt and I’ve found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible.” The singer also said her song “Lose You To Love Me” was about getting over their relationship.
“I’m very proud of it,” she explained of the song. “It has a different meaning to me now from when I wrote it. I felt I didn’t get a respectful closure, and I had accepted that, but I know I needed some way to just say a few things that I wish I had said.”
However, she said she and Bieber didn’t always have bad times. “It’s not a hateful song; it’s a song that is saying — I had something beautiful, and I would never deny that it wasn’t that. It was very difficult, and I’m happy it’s over. And I felt like this was a great way to just say, you know, it’s done, and I understand that, and I respect that, and now here I am stepping into a whole other chapter,” she said.
But now, Gomez says her new album, “Rare,” is about controlling her own narrative. “The reason why I’ve become so vocal about the trials and tribulations of my life is because people were already going to narrate that for me. I wasn’t going to have a choice because of how fast everything moves now. Most of the time, yes, it’s not true, or it’s an embellished version of what the truth is. I want to be able to tell my story the way that I want to tell it.”
Nike Says Kobe Bryant Sneakers Are All Sold Out, Not Pulled From Nike.com!
Nike issued an official statement Monday morning in which it named Kobe Bryant to be “one of the greatest athletes of his generation.”
Kobe Bryant, NBA superstar & icon, died early Sunday in a helicopter crash that killed everyone on board.
At first, in an effort to avoid and prevent people from profit scheming off of the late athlete’s death, many believed Nike pulled all of Kobe Bryant related products from its online stores.
When customers arrived at the site, the purchase links automatically redirected to L. A. Lakers merchandise and a memorial message.
But now, it is confirmed that the redirection of the purchase links were due to all of the Kobe Bryant sneakers selling out of the online stores, according to Complex.
Actually, according to ESPN, Nike is still contemplating the Feb. 7th release of the Kobe 5 Protro.
The shoe is said to combine the details of the white “home” sneaker and black “away” version that Kobe wore in the 2010 NBA Finals. Graphics from the pair of Kobe 5s that the fallen athlete wore during the Laker’s championship parade will also be featured.
However, Nike is unsure whether to release on the date set or postpone the product debut.
Though Nike hasn’t pulled Kobe’s from shelves, other retailers in their likeness have.
“We will not be selling any Kobe’s until further notice,” RIF Los Angeles informed through a statement.
Another Las Vegas-based company, Urban Necessities, sent out an email to retailers buckling down on profiteering and restricting sellers from hiking prices.

A Powerful 7.7 quake in Caribbean leads to evacuations in Miami, tsunami threat!
A powerful magnitude-7.7 earthquake struck south of Cuba and northwest of Jamaica on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake was felt in Miami, and police said some buildings were being evacuated in the city.
The Miami Police Department said in a tweet that it was assisting firefighters with reports of vibrations in the Brickell and downtown areas. There were no reports of injuries.
The police department in Miami later said that the Brickell area, which had seen some buildings evacuated earlier, was secure and there were no mandatory evacuations. Traffic and public transportation were resuming as normal, police said.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center had issued a tsunami threat for Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, the Cayman Islands and Jamaica, with waves of up to 3 feet, but later said that the danger had passed.
In Santiago in eastern Cuba, Belkis Guerrero, who works in a Roman Catholic cultural center in the center of that city, told The Associated Press that "we were all sitting and we felt the chairs move” and that "we heard the noise of everything moving around."
Tim Redell, who was visiting Jamaica on business, told NBC News that there were around 180 people there for a business conference in a giant ballroom and "the floor started shaking." They evacuated the building, Redell said.
The Stephen P. Clark Center, which houses government offices for Miami-Dade County, was one of the buildings evacuated as a precaution.
The city had seen an influx of media and sports figures as it gears up for the Super Bowl on Sunday. The NFL said in a statement that the quake had not affected any of the sanctioned Super Bowl events at the Hard Rock Stadium and other venues around Miami.
The quake was centered about 86 miles northwest of Montego Bay, Jamaica, and 87 miles west-southwest of Niquero, Cuba. It hit at 2:10 p.m. and the epicenter was 6 miles beneath the surface.
The earthquake near Jamaica has been the strongest recorded by Cuban instruments and was felt across the country, Bladimir Moreno, of the National Center of Seismologic Investigations of Santiago de Cuba, told NBC News. Moreno said it was felt in some parts of Havana and Old Havana.
