Naomi Campbell, Steve McQueen among new ‘Vogue’ team
As you may have heard, the high fashion publication has been undergoing some major changes. In recent weeks, a number of senior figures have left the publication amid news that its new editor, Edward Enninful — who is taking over from Alexandra Shulman, who announced in January that she’s exiting after 25 years — will be making some staffing changes ahead of his August 1 start date.
“I am thrilled that Kate, Naomi, Steve [McQueen] and Grace [Coddington] are going to work with us in these new roles,” said Enninful in a statement to Vogue. “As two of the biggest international style influencers and supermodels, the impact Naomi and Kate have in today’s culture is enormous. Being an acclaimed filmmaker and Turner Prize-winning artist, Steve will bring an increased depth to the arts within the magazine.”
While Moss has contributed at British Vogue since 2013, the addition of Campbell and McQueen are completely new signings. Enninful has also reportedly called on Grace Coddington, his former colleague at US Vogue, as a contributor. “Grace’s relationship with Vogue started at a very young age; she has become synonymous with the title and is as much loved in Britain as is she is globally,” continued Eminful.
The news comes shortly after Shulman, Lucinda Chambers, the magazine’s fashion director, and deputy editor Emily Sheffield announced their departures. “Lucinda has announced that she is to step down from her position,” the magazine delicately said on its website in May.
Chambers, however, had a slightly different take. “A month and a half ago I was fired,” she said in a candid interview with Vestoj. “Truth be told, I haven’t read Vogue in years. The clothes are just irrelevant for most people – so ridiculously expensive.”
While it certainly looks like the veteran mag’s new team has much work to do, the new gig is a good look for Campbell. Congrats to the supermodel on her new role.

#EMPIRE: We May Get An ‘Empire’ + ‘Star’ Crossover For This Season
'Empire' and 'Star' will premiere on Sept 27th
Empire and Star might merge — for one night only. TV Line is reporting that FOX network is, “in talks to temporarily merge the universes of both series as part of a one-night premiere event on Sept. 27.” Since both series’ come from Lee Daniels and have music at the center, this isn’t the most insane idea that we’ve ever heard. However, it might seem a bit random to have the Lyons of Empire crossing paths with the three young ladies (played by Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, and Brittany O’Grady) of Star.
Still, we would love to see Taraji P. Henson’s Cookie and Queen Latifah’s Carlotta in the same room. There is so much alpha female there that we’d live to see who might wind up on top. Perhaps Carlotta and Cookie could have some sort of history that brings them together again.
The network has declined to comment on the crossover rumor thus far, but knowing the sensational drama that occurs in Daniels’ television universes, we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see if this actually came to fruition. Once we know more about this potential mash-up, we’ll be sure to let you know.
The hit musical drama Empire is headed into Season 4 with patriarch Luscious Lyon (Terrence Howard) relearning everything he once knew before coming down with amnesia. Meanwhile, Star is set to go into its sophomore season. Though Carlotta has agreed to manage the girls’ career, superstardom might be just out of their reach.
#NEWMUSIC FROM Elijah Blake – ‘Stingy’
After going political and addressing discrimination and oppression on the stunning “Hanging Tree,” Elijah Blake returns with the retro-fueled new song, “Stingy.”
Jumping in a time machine to the days of Sly & The Family Stone or Kool & The Gang, the record opens with a sticky bassline and quickly kicks up the tempo with a swinging beat. Blake wails over the track to a lover who has him missing her so deeply that he’s going crazy.
“I’ve been on a high thinking about it / Outta my mind without you,” he sings. “I’ve been on a high free flying / I’m falling, falling, falling, falling over you / Let me know what did you do.”
Elijah Blake has been on a roll this year, releasing some seriously underrated records, including “Black & Blue,” “Some Kinda Way” and most recently “Hanging Tree.” The gifted singer/songwriter is currently prepping for the release of his new album, which is due out this summer.

JAY-Z announces 31-city 4:44 Tour
It's 4:44 somewhere.
Hot off the release of his explosive 13th album, JAY-Z has set the dates for his 31-city 4:44 Tour this fall. The nearly two-month North American trek kicks off in Anaheim, Calif., on Oct. 27, hitting major cities including Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas, and his hometown Brooklyn, before wrapping in Los Angeles Dec. 21.
The rap titan will precede the tour with two festival shows at New York's The Meadows Music and Arts Festival and his very own Made in America fest in Philadelphia in September. It's his first city-to-city jaunt since 2014, when he hit the road with wife Beyoncé on their joint On the Run Tour, which later aired on HBO as a concert special.
Tickets for the 4:44 Tour are now available for presale to Tidal members and Citi card-holders, and will go on sale to the general public July 14 at 10 a.m. local time.

'Hot Mugshot Guy' Jeremy Meeks' Wife Melissa Says She's Filing for Divorce After Cheating Scandal
It's over! Jeremy Meeks' wife, Melissa Meeks, revealed in a new interview that she's filing for divorce from the model after he was spotted kissing Topshop heiress Chloe Green earlier this month.
"The first I learned of it was when I woke up and checked my phone," Melissa told the Daily Mail in an interview published on Saturday, July 8. "Some random person I don't know sent a direct message with the photograph of my husband kissing that woman. I went into shock. I felt nauseated. It was like a bomb had gone off and my whole world had been blown apart. I'd never heard of Chloe Green. I thought Jeremy was working."
Melissa told the outlet that she immediately tried to contact Jeremy, who became an internet celebrity in 2014 when his handsome mugshot went viral, but he did not respond to her text messages or phone calls. He allegedly told Melissa he was going on a business trip before he was photographed making out with Green, 26, aboard a luxury yacht in Turkey.
Melissa told the Daily Mail that she was "humiliated" to learn that her husband of eight years was cheating on her. "He kept saying, 'I'm sorry, you didn't deserve this,'" she recalled of the moment she finally got a hold of Jeremy after he landed in Los Angeles.
"We talked about divorce," the nurse continued. "I told him I didn't think the marriage could be saved. He agreed. The marriage is over."
Melissa allowed Jeremy to spend time with his biological son, Jeremy Jr., 7, and Robert, her 11-year-old son from a previous relationship, over the 4th of July weekend. She later confronted him face-to-face when he dropped off the children. "We had it out on the doorstep," she told the British newspaper. "I told him how devastated and angry I am. He kept apologizing — not for the affair, but for the way I learned about it. ... Those pictures will haunt me forever."
Melissa doesn't forgive Green either. "I know it takes two to tango but she knew he was married. To me, that's unforgivable," she told the Daily Mail. "My whole world has been torn apart by this. What do I tell our children? My heart is broken."
Jeremy has yet to publicly address the scandal.
#SPORTSNEWS: James Harden, Rockets sign $228 million extension through 2022-23 season
The Houston Rockets and star James Harden are progressing toward a deal on the biggest contract extension in NBA history, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst.
The new contract will keep Harden in Houston through the 2022-23 season, the team announced. ESPN reports the four-year extension starts in 2019-20 with annual salaries of $37.8 million, $40.8 million, $43.8 million and $46.8 million. It could be worth $228 million through the 2022-23 season.
"It's my pleasure to announce we've reached agreement with James Harden on a long term contract extension. Since he arrived in Houston, James has exhibited the incredible work ethic, desire to win, and passion to be the best that has made him one of the most unique and talented superstars in the history of the game," owner Leslie Alexander said in a press release. "Additionally, the commitment he has shown to our organization, the City of Houston, and Rockets fans all over the world makes him a perfect leader in our pursuit of another championship. I'm very happy for James, his mother Monja, and their family on this exciting day."
Last summer Harden signed a contract extension that runs through the 2019-20 season that was reportedly worth $118.1 million. He had two years remaining on his original deal. Under his current contract, Harden is expected to earn $28.3 million for the 2017-18 season.
OOOPS! Spotify denies filling popular playlists with 'fake artists'
Spotify has denied filling its most popular playlists with “fake artists”, after it was accused of creating songs to bulk out its most popular ambient playlists at low cost to itself.
The allegation, first made by industry website Music Business Worldwide and brought to wider attention by culture publication Vulture, is that some playlists on Spotify are full of bands with no public profile, few songs, but millions of song plays – all as a result of their position on the service.
Take “Deep Watch”, the artist behind the two-song EP Endless Fragments of Time. They have no profile outside of Spotify, no biographic detail on the site, and no upcoming concerts listed anywhere – yet their two songs have racked up a total of 4.5m plays in the five months since the EP was released. That’s due to having been listed on Spotify’s Ambient Chill playlist since April; a popular, heavily promoted playlist with more than 425,000 followers.
Similarly, Enno Aare, another unknown artist who seems not to exist outside of the streaming service, has four songs with a total of 17m plays, and a position on the Spotify-curated playlists “Sleep”, “Peaceful Piano”, “Piano in the Background”, “Deep Sleep” and “Music For Concentration”.
Spotify vehemently denied creating “fake artists” saying: “We do not and have never created ‘fake’ artists and put them on Spotify playlists.
“[It’s] categorically untrue, full stop. We pay royalties – sound and publishing – for all tracks on Spotify, and for everything we playlist. We do not own rights, we’re not a label, all our music is licensed from rightsholders and we pay them – we don’t pay ourselves. We do not own this content – we license it and pay royalties just like we do on every other track,” it added.
But the denial fails to cover the totality of Music Business Worldwide’s allegations. Spotify could still be commissioning songs published under fake names at royalty rates much more favourable to the company than its standard deals with record labels, according to Music Business Worldwide. Even a reduction of a cent per play would save Spotify more than $200,000 regarding the two artists identified above.
Music Business Worldwide has identified fifty such artists, and claims that “there are a plethora of made-up artists on Spotify, being created under anonymity by producers, racking up millions of streams, being picked to appear on key first-party playlists.”
Spotify declined to comment further on the issue.

BOX OFFICE NEWS: 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Delivers $117M Opening Domestically, Over $250M Worldwide
Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming fell just a bit shy of the $120 million mark it was looking like it would hit after Friday estimates, but nevertheless the webslinger still delivered a stellar opening, delivering the third largest opening weekend of the year so far. Additionally, Lionsgate and Amazon's The Big Sick delivered strong numbers in its moderate expansion ahead of next weekend's wide release.
Playing in 4,348 theaters, Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming finished #1 at the box office with an estimated $117 million. The opening currently stands as the second largest opening ever for a Spider-Man feature (not adjusted for inflation), narrowly edging out Sam Raimi's 2002 original. Also, without adjusting for inflation, this is the largest opening for a single character intro into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, topping the $98.6 million brought in by Iron Man back in 2008.
Spider-Man's opening is the third largest of the year, finishing between the $146.5 million opening for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Wonder Woman's $103.2 million debut. Of those films Guardians topped $385 million this weekend and after this weekend it looks inevitable Wonder Woman will pass Guardians over the coming weeks, all virtually guaranteeing Spider-Man is also looking at an incredibly strong domestic run.
Internationally, Spider-Man debuted in approximately 60% of the overseas marketplace, delivering an estimated $140 million from 56 total markets and a global opening totaling $257 million. Highlights include a $25.8 million five-day opening in South Korea, a $12 million opening in Mexico, an $11.8 million five-day take in the UK, $9.1 million in Brazil, $7.8m in Russia, Australia saw a $7.6 million opening, India saw a $6.5 million debut and Italy delivered $3.1 million. Upcoming markets include openings in France, Germany, Spain, Japan and China.
Ava DuVernay’s New Netflix Project Is About the Central Park Five, Whose Deaths Trump Called for in 1989
13th director Ava DuVernay is taking on another project for Netflix, this time focusing on the five-part miniseries telling the story of the Central Park Five.
The Central Park Five was a group of five teens of color (often referred to as men as in the cited Hollywood Reporter article because racism commonly treats black and brown adolescents as adults), Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise, who were wrongly convicted of a brutal rape of a jogger in 1989.
About the series, DuVernay says, “I had an extraordinary experience working with Netflix on 13th and am overjoyed to continue this exploration of the criminal justice system as a narrative project with Cindy Holland and the team there. The story of the men known as the Central Park Five has riveted me for more than two decades. In their journey, we witness five innocent young men of color who were met with injustice at every turn—from coerced confessions to unjust incarceration to public calls for their execution by the man who would go on to be the president of the United States.”
It’s especially notable that Donald Trump, when he was still in real estate in 1989, was vocal about this incident. Trump took out a reported $85,000 in newspaper ads calling for a reinstatement of the death penalty and has never apologized. Rather, he’s claimed again that they were guilty just last year.
Netflix VP of original content Cinday Holland says, “This is one of the most talked-about cases of our time, and Ava’s passionate vision and masterful direction will bring the human stories behind the headlines to life in this series.”
The series is set for release in 2019.
