The Daily Buzz For March 30

Kerry Washington Gets Gorgeous For WWD Magazine
Kerry Washington is serving that flawless face for WWD Magazine! The “Scandal” actress, who’s gearing up to play Anita Hill in the HBO film Confirmation, is gracing the cover of WWD magazine’s latest issue. The full cover story has yet to be released, but the fab mom-of-one will open up about power, politics and polish, three important topics she can relate to, in the cover story.

Kerry definitely knows a thing or two about power as she has been building her own brand since she stepped foot in the game.

The Golden Globe nominated actress has stretched her wings joining forces with Neutrogena as their creative consultant and she’s also a celebrity ambassador for luxury watch brand Movado. When it comes to politics, not only does she play a powerful crisis manager on the hit ABC series “Scandal,” she’s also pretty involved in politics in her personal life.
As for the polish. Kerry was recently named creative ambassador for nail polish giant OPI and will be releasing her own line of nail polishes. Yes, chick STAYS booked and is all about her coin.

By the way, Confirmation will premiere April 11th on HBO.

#RHOA: Kandi Burruss and Kenya Moore are ‘Atlanta’s’ new BFFs?
Friendship on the “Real Housewives” is a fickle thing, especially if your name is Kenya Moore. Part 2 of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” reunion had the usual insults and low blows from the show’s warring women, but the biggest shocker of the night was when Kandi Burruss defended Kenya’s incident with Tammy McCall Browning‘s nephew in Miami.

With Nene Leakes out of the picture, this season gave room for Kenya and Cynthia Bailey to develop a relationship. However, Kandi’s support for Kenya was out of left field. Frankly, her support for Kenya could be another dig to her former BFF and resident Kenya-hater Phaedra Parks, who she had a war of words regarding her co-parenting style with incarcerated husband Apollo Nida.

Kandi tells the Twitterverse that she was just “keeping it 100,” but the reality of the matter is that she went out of her way to rescue Kenya from the hot seat. During reunion shows, the music producer is known to lay low and make side comments, but other than that, she only addresses issues that affect her directly.
Can this be the start of a new friendship? The truth will be revealed next season.
The final part of the reunion will be next week, and it includes a very special guest. Nene returns just in time to liven up the show, which has suffered too many boring moments in her absence this season.

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” reunion part 3 airs Sunday, April 3, at 8 p.m. E/PT on Bravo.

#TEAMEMPIRE: 'Empire' Cast: Lucious 'Will Stop At Nothing' While Andre & Rhonda Face A 'Horrific Tragedy' [VIDEO]
Lucious Lyon gets dangerous when he shows how far he'll go for the Empire, while Rhonda and Andre Lyon face a tragedy of their own.
The drama continues for the Lyon family as more spoiler alerts for the return of Fox’s Empire have been revealed.
According to a synopsis for the episode called "Death Will Have His Day," released recently, Lucious Lyon is taking drastic steps to make sure that he reigns on top of the Empire company once again. He was ousted by his ex-wife Cookie Lyon and his youngest son Hakeem Lyon. And of course she isn’t going to make it easy for him.

As if that wasn’t enough drama to make the family complete, Rhonda and Andre are still dealing with a mystery person pushing her down the stairs at the height of her pregnancy. It’s not clear if the child will survive.
A synopsis said, “Lucious announces he will stop at nothing to be at the top of his company again, but he’ll have to make his way past Cookie first. Meanwhile, Rhonda, Andre and the rest of the Lyon family struggle to come with terms with a horrific tragedy that will change their lives forever.”

It might be safe to say that Andre is bowing out of the competition for the leader of Empire and focusing on his faith and his family.
A visual promo for the return has also been released.

Cookie is questioning Hakeem, “Why would you do this to your family?” while his ex-girlfriend Camille returns and asks if he wants to take over Empire.
It’s safe to say he’s all for it as he jumps on a table and exclaims, “It’s my birthright.”
Jamal Lyon, who once ruled the empire himself, warns Hakeem of letting the power get the best of him while Cookie calls Hakeem out for “ruining our legacy.”
Andre is seen extremely emotional in a hospital lobby, hinting that something could have happened to the child while Camille instructs someone to “kill” someone else.

#THEMUSICROOM: Brian Mcknight Performs “Better” Live At Guitar Center
Brian McKnight has returned this year with the brand new album Better, his 12th studio LP. While he continues to tour the world and promote the project, the R&B veteran teamed up with Guitar Center for a special performance as part of their “At: Guitar Center” web series.

McKnight visited the music chain store’s unique Vintage Room at their Hollywood location to deliver his one-off performance of the album’s title track, and also shared his personal truth behind the song’s lyrics.

“It’s really our story, Leilani and my story,” he explains. “It took me 42 years to find real love, and I was wondering if people are out there that have given up on the idea that it’s possible. If I can find it then you can find it, and that’s the other side of this ‘Better’ thing. But as you listen to the lyric of ‘Better’ it’s exactly the way that I feel, and some might say ‘Why are you concerned with being that vulnerable in case this doesn’t work out,’ but really honestly that’s how I feel and I wanted everybody to know that’s how I felt, and more than anything I wanted her to know how I really felt. Sometimes the only way I can really express it is to write it in a song.”

#NEWHIPHOP: LUPE FIASCO – ‘EXPRESS (PANDA REMIX)’
“Panda” gets a makeover. After reworking SZA’s “Babylon” earlier this month, Lupe Fiasco serves up a remix to Desiigner’s smash single, turning it into a four-minute Panda Express ad.
Lupe’s version, titled “Express,” is all about the deliciousness that can be found at the fast food restaurant, from orange chicken to fortune cookies. He even brags about waiting in line with good manners and having stellar chopstick skills.

“You go in there with like $15 dollars to get you a whole meal,” he says at one point in the song.
“Express” is likely a warm-up for what could be a busy year for Fiasco. The Chicago rapper has already promised fans three LPs this year: Drogas, Skulls, and Roy.

SADNESS: ICONIC Star and Activist Patty Duke dies at age 69!
Patty Duke, the teen who won an Oscar for The Miracle Worker and later played "identical cousins" in her own TV sitcom, has died. She was 69.
The news was confirmed Tuesday by one of her representatives, Mitchell Stubbs.

"Anna 'Patty Duke' Pearce passed away this morning March 29, 2016 at 1:20 am," his statement read. "Her cause of death was sepsis from a ruptured intestine. She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend, a mental health advocate and a cultural icon. She will be missed."

Duke died at a hospital in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, where she had lived for the last 25 years with fourth husband Michael Pearce.
Acclaimed for her acting (her career dates back to the late 1950s), Duke became best known in later life as an advocate for mental health issues, after she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1982 and wrote about it in her 1987 autobiography.

Experts on brain disorders hailed her courage in being one of the first celebrities to speak out about her disorder, depression and substance abuse.
"By bravely sharing her personal story —so at odds with her professional image — with the public, she became an inspiration and role model for people and their loved ones who are dealing with mental illness, and worked toward eliminating the stigma that prevents so many people from seeking help. She will be missed," said Jeffrey Borenstein, president and CEO of the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, who interviewed Duke for his PBS show Healthy Minds.
Duke won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Miracle Worker, becoming the then-youngest person to win an Oscar and thus one of the most famous American teenagers ever. She earned it playing the blind-and-deaf American icon Helen Keller, first on stage and later in the 1962 film, both of which told the story of how Keller learned to communicate as a child through her tutor Anne Sullivan (Anne Bancroft).

But Duke really charmed her way into American pop culture in 1963, when she was given her own series, The Patty Duke Show, created especially for her. At the time, no one knew, not even Duke, that she had bipolar disorder.
But producer Sidney Sheldon had noticed that she had two distinct sides to her personality and the two came up with the idea of a show about "identical cousins" with contrasting personalities, and even different accents.
The show, which ran from 1963-1966, was hard work: She played both characters, Patricia "Patty" Lane, a "typical" rock 'n roll American teenager who occasionally got into minor trouble at school and home, and Catherine "Cathy" Lane, her more well-behaved cousin from Scotland who adores "a minuet, The Ballet Russes and crepe suzette."
Besides appearing on stage and screen, Duke even had success as a singer, with two Top 40 hits in 1965, Don't Just Stand There and Say Something Funny. She also wrote two books, Call Me Anna, and Brilliant Madness: Living with Manic Depressive Illness.

And she served as president of the actors union, the Screen Actors Guild, from 1983 to 1988.
She was married four times and had multiple affairs, which led to some confusion over the father of one of her three children, Lord of the Rings actor Sean Astin (his biological dad turned out to be one of her lovers-turned-short-lived husbands).
Duke's life and career were tumultuous, and not just because of her bipolar disorder or the fact she worked so much (her Internet Movie Database page shows she has a movie, Power of the Air, coming out in 2017), but because of her personal life.
"I think maybe the most important part of her legacy is her acting work," said her son Sean Astin, in an interview with the Associated Press. "Above and beyond anything, the reason any of the other stuff is possible in terms of the scope of the impact that she was able to have with people was her talent and her work and her work ethic, her discipline. She worked extremely hard."
Astin said she had dealt with a multitude of ailments over the years, including emphysema after years of smoking. He said he was grateful to the rush of tributes for his mother.
"It's just such an affirmation of the best part of her and such a relief to be able to enjoy that as opposed to the pain that everyone was feeling," Astin said. "We're so grateful to her for living a life that generates that amount of compassion and feeling in others. So, this last hour's a joy moment for me."
Duke married her fourth husband, drill sergeant Michael Pearce, in 1986, after meeting on the set of a TV movie, A Time to Triumph, for which Pearce served as a consultant. They moved to Hayden, Idaho, adopted a son, Kevin, born in 1988.  After her marriage, Duke used the name Anna Duke-Pearce in her writings and other professional work.
As is now routine, condolences started piling up on Twitter, addressed to Duke and to her son, Sean, from famous friends and from fans.

OMG! Singer Kehlani Hospitalized Following Suicide Attempt
Kehlani has been hospitalized after an apparent suicide attempt. The 20-year-old R&B singer posted a photo on Instagram, which showed an IV in her arm.

“Today I wanted to leave this earth,” read the caption. “Being completely selfish for once. Never thought I’d get to such a low point.”

She went on to address reports that she was cheating on Cleveland Cavaliers’, Kyrie Irving, with her ex-boyfriend, Partynextdoor – who sparked speculation when he posted a photo of him holding her hand, while lying in bed.
“But.. Don’t believe the blogs you read,” she continued. “No one was cheated on and I’m not a bad person. Everyone is hurt and everyone is in a place of misunderstanding.. But as of today, I had no single wish to see tomorrow.. But God saved me for a reason, and for that.. I must be grateful.. Cuz I’m not in heaven right now for a reason… On that note.. Bye Instagram.”
Prayers up for the R&B songstress.

Have you seen "Basketball Wives: LA" Star Sundy Carter’s Bosoms lately?
Whoa.  Sundy Carter and former co-star Brooke Bailey just posted risque new pics and are playing that whole "we can't tell you what we're up to but stay tuned" game.  The chances of us caring enough to figure out what their new "project" is that they're working on are slim to none.  But we are interested in this drastic new change.
She reportedly went from an A cup to a D cup.  And she's letting the world know.  She told TMZ that Dr. Sheila Nazarian in Beverly Hills hooked her up with the rack she's always dreamed of.  Maybe it's not as painful as it looks.
Just in time for whatever this new project is she's working on.
