#MAGFAB: Niecy Nash and wife, Jessica Betts, are 1st same-sex couple on Essence cover
Actress and television host Niecy Nash and her wife, singer Jessica Betts, made history this week as the first same-sex couple to appear on the cover of Essence magazine.
In the cover feature, titled “Niecy Nash and Wife Jessica Are Sure Betts,” the couple opens up about their romance — including finding love after heartbreak — and the viral response to their wedding announcement in the summer of 2020.
In a series of tweets Thursday, the “Claws” star posted photos from the Essence photo shoot alongside hashtags, including #makinghistory and #BlackHerstory.
The couple met on social media in 2015 after Nash discovered Betts’ music. They developed a friendship over the next four years, which they said turned romantic after a night at Nash’s place.
“I was nervous at dinner because I felt something,” Nash, 52, told Essence. “I could not wrap my head around it. I was trying to see if I was off, ’cause I wanted to keep the night going. And the night turned into the rest of my life.”
Now, 18 months after their wedding announcement went viral on social media, the couple said they’re still shocked by the public’s response.
“A lot of people thought it was like a movie or some promo,” Nash told the magazine. “They started calling everybody, and we were like, ‘This is insane.’ I never knew why where you lay your head is such a big deal to other people. I was like, ‘People care?’”
Betts and Nash (who also goes by Carol Denise Betts) say they are still wildly in love and hope to capture it for the world to see.
“If there’s an agenda, it’s that we’re going to spread queer joy. The world needs it. Real talk,” Betts told the magazine.

To amp up the look, Porsha paired the pink frock with glistening crystal-embellished Manolo Blahnik heels ($1,045). The tan sandals featured studded statement rings and sleek transparent straps. Porsha accessorized with dangly earrings and a beaded purse. She topped off her look with glam including bold lashes, sparkly brown eyeshadow, and pink lip gloss. Her pixie haircut wig was styled into waves.
The elegant affair included around 100 guests, two of which were Porsha's former castmates. The Real Housewives of Atlanta's Eva Marcille and Kandi Burruss took part in the celebration, flaunting their own stylish looks.
Porsha shared a sweet photo with Kandi from the wedding on February 23. The two were all smiles as they posed in front of a beautiful flower display. "When I tell you this room was filled with love and the best energy… I missed my peeps," Porsha captioned her post. "So blessed to be a part of your village."

#HipHopNews: Megan Thee Stallion Puts Death Threats On Blast Amid Akademiks & Tory Lanez Rift
Megan Thee Stallion alleged she was shot by Tory Lanez in July 2020 following an evening out with Keeping Up With The Kardashians personality Kylie Jenner. Lanez was arrested and ultimately charged with felony assault, while Megan continued her ascent to rap stardom. Nearly two years later, the case still hasn’t been resolved.
On Wednesday (February 23), just as Megan and Lanez were headed to court, Akademiks tweeted there was “NO DNA” from Lanez found on the weapon used in the incident. Megan Thee Stallion was furious over the claim and blasted the media personality for spreading a “false narrative” before court had even started.
The situation grew exponentially messier by the minute as Tory Lanez interjected with his side of the story, claiming he was only guilty of “fucking 2 best friends” — not shooting Megan Thee Stallion. Meanwhile, reporters from the New York Post and Rolling Stone did their due diligence and quickly refuted Akademiks’ claims.
As the e-battle waged on, Twitter lit up with opinions on the matter and evidently, Megan Thee Stallion was on the receiving end of some extremely contentious comments — including death threats.
On Friday (February 25), an Instagram account called @megantheestallionsbiggesthater posted “Megan Needs To Be Shot And Killed [smiling tongue out emoji].” Megan re-shared the post and wrote across the bottom, “This is the type of shit I get online and see EVERY DAY.”
Tory Lanez has maintained his innocence since the shooting incident took place. In September 2020, he released an entire album called DAYSTAR dedicated to clearing his name while questioning Megan’s injuries. But in a statement sent to HipHopDX, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office sounded confident the case the prosecutors have built will fully support the charges against Tory Lanez.
“Although we are legally prohibited from commenting on the evidence and will continue to abide by that obligation, our office is under an ethical duty to only proceed on charges which we believe can be proven beyond a reasonable doubt and which have already been upheld by a judge after presentation of evidence at the preliminary hearing,” the statement read. “We believe the evidence substantially supports the charges and allegations and that evidence will be borne out in court.”

Anthony Anderson is making moves in higher education. On The Real, the 51-year-old actor reveals that he’s only 15 credits away from getting his degree from Howard University and will graduate this spring.
When asked what his degree is in, he explained: My degree will be in Fine Arts. I was a theater major while I was at HU and had to leave after my junior year because I ran out of money. And a few years ago, my son got accepted to Howard University and he inspired me to go back and get my degree. I thought we were going to walk together in 2022, but real life happens. Just like it happened to me, I had to withdraw after my junior year, real life happened with my son. So unfortunately, we won’t be walking together, but hopefully he’ll be walking soon.

A LeBron James museum is set to open in 2023
LeBron James has earned enough awards and honors to fill up a large trophy room. The accolades that won’t fit there can now be placed on display in a new museum being built for the “kid from Akron.”
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, plans to develop the LeBron James Museum in the NBA superstar’s hometown are officially underway. James’ museum is part of a renovation of the former Tangier entertainment complex in Akron.
The new space is being rebranded as House Three Thirty. There will be restaurants, bars and retail space at the venue and Bron’s museum will be housed in the basement.
Trading cards and sports memorabilia company Upper Deck is the main sponsor of the museum. Fans will get to experience James’ path to greatness inside the museum through a series of pivotal moments that shaped his life.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, there will be an exhibit set up similar to the Springhill Apartments space James grew up in.
The aim of the exhibit is to show visitors how growing up in humble beginnings helped make him the person he is today.
There’s an exhibit dedicated to his basketball career at Akron’s St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. The instillation will also showcase the lifelong friendships Bron created at the school and of course the moments that led to him becoming the No. 1 draft pick — straight out of high school — in the 2004 NBA Draft.
The next exhibit highlights ‘Bron’s professional career in Cleveland, Miami and Los Angeles. Having brought a championship to all three cities, there will likely be a variety of memorabilia from those years, as well as other years where his team may have fallen short in the playoffs.
The 37-year-old hoop star is a 4x NBA champion, a 4x MVP, a 4x Finals MVP, and an 18x All-Star. He also won the rookie of the year award, was the league’s regular season scoring champion once, and has won two gold medals. It’s unclear whether or not the museum will showcase James’ actual trophies.
‘Bron’s entrepreneurial endeavors will also be on display in another exhibit, the outlet reports. The area will feature items and descriptions related to his TV and movie career, including Space Jam 2 artifacts and his Blaze Pizza franchise investment.
On the way out of the museum, visitors will pass through an area dedicated to the LeBron James Family Foundation. King James’ philanthropic efforts have grown from hooking up Akron third graders with bikes and helmets to his I Promise school.
The LeBron James museum is scheduled to open in 2023.
Ten years after Trayvon Martin’s death, his mom, Sybrina Fulton reflects on what’s changed
It’s been 10 years since the tragic death of Trayvon Martin shook the country. For activists and others, Martin’s death, at the hands of neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, proved to be a pivotal moment in the fight for equal rights and social justice.
For Sabrina Fulton —Trayvon’s mom — her son’s death on February 26, 2012 felt like her life was over at the time.
But it wasn’t. Instead, Fulton has pushed forward for Trayvon and for other parents who have lost children to senseless gun violence.
In a new interview with People, Fulton said that while it’s gratifying that Trayvon is remembered and is part of making a change, she would give it all up to have him back. “Nothing good that has happened can make up for the fact that I lost my son,” she said.
Fulton has laid out her thoughts regarding her son’s death in a new essay titled “Trayvon: Ten Years Later.” The essay, which is available on Amazon, details the wisdom Fulton has gained in the past ten years. It’s about life, love, and loss; about bad faith; and what changes have and have not occurred since Trayvon’s death.
Fulton states in her essay that she still cries every day for her son. She told People that she continues to miss Trayvon and that she’ll miss him “every day” of her life.
“Before this happened, I had a good life. I had a good job, I was happy, I had my sons. I had friends. I had a lot of great things in my life,” Fulton said. “And when this happened, I thought that life was over. And I went through a lot of very tough times afterwards. People would tell me how strong I was, and I appreciated that, but I only became strong because Trayvon made me strong. The situation made me strong.”
In the decade since Trayvon’s life was taken away, Fulton authored the book “Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin.” She ran for office in Miami, started a foundation in her son’s name and founded Circle of Mothers, a group dedicated to bringing together mothers who have lost children or other family members due to gun violence.
Fulton told People she plans to continue to do her part to help end senseless gun violence. “If there’s anything good that can come out of what happened to Trayvon, it’s that people are more aware. And maybe that can make a difference,” she said.

Wendy Williams has battled addiction, Graves’ disease and a cheating husband, and is currently being scrutinized over allegations that she is incapable of looking after her own finances.
To top things off, on Tuesday the wild doyenne of daytime TV lost the show that bears her name.
It was announced that “The Wendy Williams Show” is ending after its 13th season — a season in which Williams never even made it on air due to her health woes.
Williams, 57, is currently in Florida with her son, Kevin Hunter, Jr., 21, and those who know her are concerned.
“Wendy is missing her medical appointments down in Florida,” claimed a longtime friend. “People are very worried about Wendy and her wellbeing … We want to get Wendy back to New York City to get her back on track.”
Williams, who, according to Forbes, was on a contract of $15 million a year, is believed to have hired attorney LaShawn Thomas in her fight against Wells Fargo. The bank has frozen her assets and claimed that she is an “incapacitated person” who needs a guardianship.
In court documents, signed in Williams’ name, the former host strenuously denied the allegations and earlier this month filed an affidavit in New York Supreme Court for a temporary restraining order against Wells Fargo. She insisted that a financial adviser Lori Schiller, who alleged that the star was of “unsound mind,” is a “disgruntled” former employee. Thomas and Wells Fargo both declined to comment.
“A lot of people are concerned about Wendy right now, but it seems like things are getting worse,” a show insider told The Post, citing how Sherri Shepard went from being Williams’ permanent guest host to taking her time slot. “Wendy is pissed right now. You have to understand her talk show was pretty much all she had. It was her passion, so now what?”
Sources told The Post there are two camps battling for the right to help Williams. In one corner is her longtime publicist, Howard Bragman, and manager Bernie Young, along with her longtime New York doctors and attorneys.
In the other corner is Thomas and Williams’ purported new publicist, Shawn Zanotti — both of whom have worked with Williams’ ex-husband, Hunter.
After Bragman put out a statement on Williams’ behalf in the week, a reply popped up on her Instagram account, presented as if it was from Wendy herself: “Mr. Bragman although I appreciate your concerns and respect you immensely I have not authorized you to make any statements on my behalf.”
Bragman told People magazine that he was not sure if Williams had penned the message herself.

‘RHOM’ star Julia Lemigova regrets being in closet when dating Navratilova
As the only Real Housewife in a same-sex marriage — to tennis legend Martina Navratilova — Miami’s Julia Lemigova knows about breaking boundaries.
However, it took the former Miss USSR a long time to be open about her sexuality, even shamefully hiding her romance with Navratilova at first.
“We never talked about gay relationships in Russia,” Lemigova, 49, told The Post. “It’s only when I left Moscow and moved to Paris that I discovered that there were all types of relationships and loves.”
Still, she added, “Even though I had relationships with other women, it was in a private closed circle. I couldn’t imagine holding another woman’s hand on the street. I was very much in the closet all those years.”
Lemigova first met Navratilova, now 65, in Paris in 2000 at a nightclub. It was a brief interaction, but the tennis star remembered the beauty queen when they saw each other again, eight years later, during the French Open.
“We bumped into each other in the players’ restaurant,” Lemigova recalled. “I literally bumped into her with a tray of food. She remembered me. And I asked her to have breakfast with me the next day. Then we had another breakfast the next day and then one more breakfast. And then she moved in.”
Although they were living together, she still didn’t publicly come out.
“I must have hurt Martina so much because she’s a pioneer of LGBTQ liberation and being herself. When she tried to hold my hand, I would say, ‘Darling, we cannot do this. We’re in Paris. What if somebody sees us, the neighbors?’” Lemigova said with regret. “I don’t even know how she stayed with me for so long. It’s only when I came to Miami that I was open. This town helped me come out of the closet. And then I was thinking, ‘Oh my god, what a fool I was. How could I wait for so long?’”
After Navratilova publicly proposed to Lemigova at the US Open in 2014, the couple tied the knot later that year, with a star-studded wedding reception attended by Brooke Shields, Chris Evert, Lynda Carter, and models Karolina Kurkova and Rachel Hunter.
One thing that Lemigova said helped her go public with her relationship was her daughters, Emma and Victoria, who came to view Navratilova as their parent.
Although Lemigova doesn’t discuss who Victoria’s father is, Emma, who is now 16, is the daughter of Christian Courtin-Clarins, who owns the cosmetic company Clarins. She is now is now staying with her father in Paris to learn about the family business, while Victoria, 20, is attending the University of Richmond.
“I’m very Russian in my parenting. Very strict,” Lemigova said. “’Maman poule’ [‘mother hen’] we say in Paris, where you always have this feeling you need to protect. Martina is more like a daredevil. The girls go to her for more fun things and sports. And she’s like, ‘Of course you can do it.’”
Tragically, in 2000, Lemigova’s first child, a son named Maximilien, died from shaken baby syndrome while in the care of a nanny his father, banker Edouard Stern, had hired. Stern, one of the richest men in France, and Lemigova were no longer together, and it is believed that the nanny had something to do with the death of the five-month-old baby, although she fled before charges could be filed.
“I don’t know if I ever completely survived the loss of my son,” Lemigova said. “Part of me is dead forever. At the time, I simply didn’t want to live. Selfishly, I wanted to end my life so many times. I wanted to join my son. I wanted to go away. In this horrible pain and through years of grief, I found joy in helping other people. Many women have told me they don’t know how you can survive something like this and not go completely insane,
not kill yourself. How can you keep living, have more children, redo your life? It’s very, very difficult, but I’m proof that, yes, you can … Martina helped me a lot.”
In 2005, Stern was found shot to death in his Geneva apartment, clad in a S&M-themed flesh-colored head-to-toe latex bodysuit. He was murdered by his longtime lover Cécile Brossard, who spent five years in prison for the crime.
“My life has been very dramatic,” Lemigova acknowledged. “It was sad. It was happy. But I’m not a sad person, no matter how much I was beat up in life, and by people. We just have one life, and it goes by so fast. So I rise up to the surface and I’m unstoppable.”
This adversity makes her the perfect new cast member of the rebooted “Real Housewives of Miami series,” airing on Peacock. (There’s a two-part RHOM reunion show on March 3 and 10.) On it, Lemigova has created controversy with an intimate foot rub she gave her real-life bestie and longtime Miami
Housewife Adriana de Moura.
“It was just a foot rub,” she explained. “She came to my farm in these beautiful white Valentino shoes and ruined them because she went to see my chickens. Of course, I’m going to wash her feet. It’s like being a good host. And then it got muddled into something completely crazy. Oh my God, a foot massage! Why not? If Martina doesn’t have a problem with this, why should anybody else have a problem with it?”
On the show, Navratilova is seen laughing off the incident and asking Adriana, “Are you the pope or something?” In fact, the normally private tennis legend encouraged Julia to do RHOM.
“Martina saw the thrill in my eyes, and she said, ‘Go for it, girl,'” Lemigova recalled.
In preparation for her audition, the couple held a RHOM marathon and watched the first three seasons in three days.
“The thing about reality TV is that you cannot fake it,” Lemigova said. “I worked with the camera for years when I was model, and you cannot lie to the camera because it’s going to catch you in your act and bite you in the ass.”
While there was some on-air tension with party planner Guerdy Abraira, who planned Lemigova Tulum-themed birthday bash, the latter confirmed they are all good.
“Guerdy’s fun. She has this big, fiery personality, which makes her Guerdy,” Lemigova said. “Just like in normal life, you go through ups and downs with different people. You might have some confrontation, but then you resolve it, and the friendship goes on.”
RHOM also portrays Lemigova’s “Green Acres” lifestyle, which she refers to as “farm to glam.” On her and Navratilova’s new spread in Southwest Ranches, west of Fort Lauderdale, Lemigova drives a pickup truck, tends to quail, geese, donkeys and turtles, and walks her goat Elvis on a rainbow-colored leash. The couple’s menagerie also includes nine cats, four dogs, baby goats and countless chickens. Lemigova is even known to bring freshly laid eggs to dinner parties in her signature pink egg cartons.
“Everyone else brings a bottle of Champagne,” she said. “I come with eggs.”
But when she’s in Miami Beach, where she and Navratilova own a waterfront home, the former beauty queen comfortably wears sexy and glamorous evening gowns.
“I’m totally embracing my two parallel lives,” Lemigova explained. “In the city, it’s fabulous clothes and fabulous people and fabulous places. And then driving my pickup truck, midwifing goats and talking to the animals.”
Although Bravo has not confirmed if RHOM will be renewed, Lemigova is up for for another season.
“I’m happy to share my life with Martina — how we live, our family, our kids and our interaction with the animals on the farm,” she said. “I have the amazing opportunity to show that love has no gender and love is love.”

Additionally, Smollett states his lawyers were not allowed to ask potential jurors questions and believe the jury pool for his case was corrupted. He also accused prosecutors of being racist based on the selection of jurors. The judge was also blamed for barring the media and public from the courtroom.

Florida House Passes ‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bil
On Thursday, Florida’s House of Representatives passed the Parental Rights in Education bill, also known as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The bill backed by Republicans would restrict teachers and school districts from openly discussing gender identity and topics surrounding sexuality in the classroom. As CBS News notes, it passed 69-47. It now moves to the Florida Senate for further debate.
Introduced by Republican Rep. Joe Harding, the bill prohibits instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in kindergarten through third grade, and, in other grade levels, bars discussion that is not “age or developmentally appropriate.” It would also allow parents to sue school districts that go against the law: “I believe in the idea that creating boundaries at an early age of what is appropriate in our schools—when we are funding our schools—is not hate,” said Republican Joe Harding, the sponsor of the bill. “It’s actually providing boundaries, and it’s fair to our teachers and our school districts to know what we expect.”
CBS Miami reports that if the bill is passed, the legislation would go into effect for the 2022-2023 school year.

‘RHOP’ Star Mia Thorton Diagnosed With Cancer
The latest cast member of the series announced on her official Instagram page that she has been diagnosed with cancer after attending several doctor appointments. Thorton,37, uploaded a selfie with the following caption reads: “Same time last week, Doc called at 7:31 am — Mia I’m so sorry but your test results came back and I need you to go to Johns Hopkins Cancer Center today. You can only imagine the overwhelming amount of emotion G and I endured trying to figure out why.”

Jazmine Sullivan Cancels Shows Due To Testing Positive For Covid-19
If you are a fan of Jazmine Sullivan and had plans to go and see the singer perform live during her upcoming Tour, then you may be sad to hear the news that the Grammy Award-winning artist is canceling certain show dates due to her contracting COVID-19.
“My doctor confirmed today that I’m positive with Covid,” she penned. “I am taking every precaution to isolate myself. I’m truly sad to have to cancel more shows but health and safety come first for myself, my team, and all of you. LA’s show tomorrow will, unfortunately, be cancelled and we are likely cancelling shows for the next week based on my condition and the condition of my crew.”
“We will let you know when the tour will resume once we have made that decision. As soon as we have more information in regards to tickets and rescheduling, ticket holders will be notified via email,” she added.

One Dead, 13 Injured In Las Vegas Hookah Lounge Shooting
An altercation inside a Las Vegas hookah lounge turned deadly Saturday morning after a shooting left one dead and 13 others injured.
Officers responded to reports of a shooting at a hookah lounge on East Sahara Avenue around 3:15 a.m. First responders located 14 gunshot victims upon arriving at the scene.
The victims were taken to UMC and Sunrise Hospitals, and one person was pronounced dead. Two people were listed in critical condition, and the other victims were listed as stable.
During a press conference held Saturday morning, police said the shooting occurred after a fight broke out between at least two men. As the parties exchanged gunfire, multiple people were struck.
“The suspects are currently outstanding, but I assure you that they will be caught,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Capt. Dori Koren said during the news conference.
Koren said that the total number of shooters is still unknown at this time. The shooting is still under investigation.

“The Simpsons” are coming together to show their solidarity with Ukraine in a new cartoon of the famous family holding the country’s flags, released on social media on Friday.
The producers of the long-running animated series released a quickly-commissioned cartoon yesterday as the Russian invasion into Ukraine continued.
In the image, drawn by long-time animator and director David Silverman, Homer Simpson holds one flag, Bart and Lisa hold up another- together, baby Maggie waves two small flags, and Marge stands next to a large flag that seems to wave out of her iconic blue beehive.
“We don’t do this very often, only very rarely when there’s something … extremely important for a cause that could not be bigger,” executive producer Al Jean told the Daily Mail.
“It’s meant to show we care about what’s going on and have enormous sympathy for the people of Ukraine and want this to stop,” Jean explained. “The future of democracy in the world is at stake.”
