Alicia Keys for InStyle US - July 2020!
Over recent weeks we’ve witnessed the industry’s response to the pandemic. Vogue Italia went blank, American Vogue published a previously unpublished portrait and British Harper’s Bazaar asked Ashley Graham’s husband to snap pictures of the model for its covers. InStyle is following suit with the magazine welcoming Alicia Keys as its July 2020 cover star. Her husband and two children picked up cameras capturing the singer/songwriter looking radiant at home for the newsstand cover (below) and basking in the Southern California sun for the subscribers’ alternative (after the jump).
The covers absolutely took our forum members by surprise. “It’s hilarious that her sons can produce a better cover than half of today’s working ‘photographers’. It’s got a nice vibe to it…” admired dodencebt.
“I love how beautiful she looks in both covers, that first one is really nice,” praised Miss Dalloway.
“Had we not been going through a lockdown, I would never have guessed the newsstand cover was photographed by two children as opposed to professionals. It’s a beautiful image, very fresh and vibrant. Those bright orange and pink fonts complement the shot beautifully,” raved vogue28.
TaylorBinque was also a fan: “Alicia is beautiful and actually I don’t mind the little makeup here. I sort of wish the newsstand cover had a little more fashion quality, but both look better than a lot of magazines right now.”
“She looks absolutely glorious in both covers,” proclaimed [Piece Of Me].
“I really like the subscribers’ cover. The newsstand one is not too bad, either,” Yohji chimed in.

#RHOA: Say What? Nene Leakes Want Andy Cohen Fired?
Does Nene Leakes want Andy Cohen to be fired from Bravo? Amid several shake-ups happening within the network and loud calls for social justice in the streets, The Real Housewives of Atlanta star seems to be asking for Bravo’s top host to get the ax, hinting at mistreatment on social media and retweeting fans’ explicit demands.
The reality star’s heated commentary first began after Bravo fired Vanderpump Rules stars Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens, and Brett Caprioni over past controversial behavior and issued a statement around their decision.
Nene (along with other Bravolebs) commented on the post, saying, “Well alright then! Now we have a few more questions to ask about in other areas where there’s a major difference. Should we talk privately or publicly π€,” potentially alluding to rumors alleging she might sue the network.
“All of these companies comin out with large contributions towards social justice!” she wrote on Twitter on June 9 amid news Bravo’s parent company was donating $100 million to fight social injustice. “Clearly there r lots of executives sitting in these offices with no heart & no feelings! U sit there knowin that a black person hasn’t been treated equal! I just want u to know, your [sic] a piece of s**t.”
Is one of the “executives” she’s referencing Andy?
Andy eventually broke his silence around the Pump Rules firings, noting how he thought it was the “right decision” and how he had a “long conversation” with Kandi Burruss about how the network can move forward.
Andy’s statement seemed to set Nene off, as she retweeted an article detailing his response, saying, “I find this interesting π€π§.”
co-signed by retweeting. It appears, though, that she recently took back that retweet.
Although she may have rescinded her initial support for calls to fire Andy, his “long conversation” with Kandi seemed to really set her off, as she called upon executives to have conversations with all cast members of RHOA.
“I think it interesting how 1 cast member can give you insight when we have all experienced things differently, separately and together!” Nene wrote. “All voices should be heard[.]”
Nene then retweeted more fans who called out Andy for only having a conversation with Kandi and leaving other housewives seemingly out of the picture.
“Idk but reading ‘I had a great, very long talk with Kandi two days ago. she had some really fantastic suggestions for how we can move forward and we’re all ears’ annoyed me,” wrote a fan. “Assert that you’re going to have these talks with ALL Bravolebs on your payroll[.]”
“Why is @BravoTV@Andy holding discussions with Kandi as if she’s the boss of RHOA? Why?” another fan tweeted.

#HipHopNews: Gucci Mane Says He’s Leaving Atlantic Records, Alleges Racism!
Gucci Mane is calling out his label over allegations of racism.
On Thursday night, the Atlanta rapper informed his fans that he would be leaving Atlantic Records next month, while claiming that its white executives were “polite racist.”
“Leaving #AtlanticRecords July 3rd these crackers polite racist #SoIcySummer,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
In a subsequent tweet, which has also been removed, he called on his fellow artists to “go on strike” against “racist ass labels.” “Burn them down too,” added Gucci, while retweeting supportive comments from fans.
In 2017, Gucci announced that he had renewed his deal with Atlantic Records for $10 million. He has been signed to Atlantic since 2007 and released 11 albums through the label. Last month, he dropped his most recent single “Both Sides” featuring Lil Baby.
The Atlanta Police Officer Who Fatally Shot Rayshard Brooks Has Been Fired, And A 2nd Officer Is On Administrative Leave!
An Atlanta police officer has been fired after fatally shooting Rayshard Brooks outside a Wendy's on Friday, as he ran away while holding a Taser, a police spokesperson told Insider.
The spokesperson identified the officer as Garrett Rolfe, who has worked at the Atlanta Police Department since 2013. A second officer involved in the incident was placed on administrative leave and was identified as Devin Bronsan, who was hired in 2018.
Earlier on Saturday, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms had called for the officer to be fired and said she didn't believe the shooting was justified. Police Chief Erika Shields resigned less than 24 hours after Brooks' death.
Rolfe opened fire on Brooks while he was running away and pointing a Taser after a scuffle with Rolfe and Bronsan.

The fatal shooting set off a new wave of protests in Atlanta, which had already seen weeks of anti-racism and anti-police brutality protests in the wake of the killing of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis.
On Saturday, protesters set fire to the Wendy's where Brooks was shot, and shut down traffic lanes on a nearby highway. Police also responded with force to disperse crowds, using tear gas and a flash bang.
The deadly encounter began after police received a complaint that Brooks was asleep in his car at the drive-thru, according to the George Bureau of Investigation. The GBI said officers initially conducted a field sobriety test, and that Brooks resisted arrest after he failed the test.
But lawyers representing Brooks' family said the GBI's account was false. One of the attorneys, L. Chris Stewart, said witnesses had told him that officers had not conducted a field sobriety test — instead, they appeared to be having a civil conversation with Brooks before they suddenly tried to arrest him.
Stewart also said Brooks had not been blocking the drive-thru line when he was asleep in his car.
Stewart said officers should merely have had a conversation with Brooks if they suspected he had been drinking, and avoided escalating the situation.
"Why was he even under arrest? You want to know how this could have been avoided?" Stewart said. "Talk to him. 'Hey, buddy, you fell asleep in line, you okay? Why don't you pull your car over there and call an Uber.' And then you walk over and then you leave. Why is that so hard for police officers."
Stewart continued: "He wasn't doing anything crazy or violent or harming anyone."
'The Bachelor': Matt James To Be Show's First Black Star!
The Bachelor has named its first black star: Matt James. ABC confirmed James' casting in Season 25 Friday on Twitter following new dialogue about the franchise's lack of diversity.
"It's official...your next Bachelor is @mattjames919!" the post reads.
James is friends with Tyler Cameron, who competed in Hannah Brown's season of The Bachelorette. James was initially cast to appear in Clare Crawley's upcoming season of The Bachelorette, which suspended production in March due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
ABC celebrated James' casting in a statement Friday to Good Morning America.
"We know we have a responsibility to make sure the love stories we're seeing onscreen are representative of the world we live in, and we are proudly in service to our audience," the network said.
"This is just the beginning, and we will continue to take action with regard to diversity issues on this franchise. We feel so privileged to have Matt as our first black Bachelor and we cannot wait to embark on this journey with him."
Rachel Lindsay, the first and only black Bachelorette, and other stars in the franchise previously raised concerns about the show's lack of diversity. Talks renewed in the wake of George Floyd's death in May.
Lindsay said in an interview with AfterBuzz this month that she would cut ties with the franchise if it didn't take steps to diversify, including casting a black Bachelor in Season 25.
James said Friday on GMA that his casting is "a step in the right direction" for the franchise.

Nicki and Kenneth, 42, got married back in October after more than a year of dating.
“Even if you’re not married, when you have someone that feels like your soulmate or someone who understands you, it just makes you feel like you’re on top of the world,” Nicki said.
Teyana Taylor And Iman Shumpert Expecting Second Daughter!
Teyana Taylor is pregnant with her second child. The singer has announced that she and her husband Iman Shumpert are expecting a baby girl this September. She made the announcement in the video for her new single, “Wake Up Love,” which was released Friday.
In the closing scene, Teyana lifts up her shirt to reveal her baby bump while in bed with her NBA star husband and their 4-year-old daughter Iman Tayla aka Junie. The happy family rubs on Teyana’s belly before blowing kisses to the camera.
“We’re ready, and we’re very excited,” Taylor told PEOPLE. “Iman is super excited. Junie is ecstatic — I’m talking super ecstatic. Everybody is just excited. I can’t wait. I’ve got three more months left until we meet our little princess.”
Junie is excited to be a big sister and even has names picked out. “Junie has a lot of ideas,” added Teyana. “She constantly kisses my stomach, she constantly talks to the baby. Even when we go to the store, she’s like, ‘Okay, mom, this is for the baby.’ She’s so ready. She’s going to be such a great big sister.”
“Wake Up Love,” which also features a rap verse from Iman, is the latest release from Teyana’s upcoming project The Album. Last month, she released two tracks, the sensual “Bare Wit Me” and “Made It,” dedicated to the Class of 2020.
“‘Wake Up Love’ is about asking for attention,” she explained. “I wanted it to be something couples can relate to. I, personally, am not a nagging person, and I’m also not a super clingy person. But I’m very affectionate and very lovable. After a long, hard day of work, I want to be up under you. And vice versa.”
The Album, which follows 2018’s K.T.S.E., will be released in the week ahead. “We’re going to do an announcement on the album date on Monday,” said Teyana, adding, “I can tell you the album is coming out in a few days.”
OOOPS!, Terrence J Was Just Joking With 'Best Friend' Marlon Wayans In Viral Video Where He Slams The Wayans Family!
It was a joke! Twitter has been dragging Terrence J over a video clip with Marlon Wayans from two months ago that recently went viral. Find out what he said that had folks coming for him and his explanation inside...
The Internet was going IN on TV host Terrence J yesterday after a video of him and Marlon Wayans resurfaced from March and went viral. TJ and Marlon seemingly got into a heated exchange on IG Live that was recorded a few months ago, and in the clip, a supposedly wine-drunk TJ is talking like he wants ALL the smoke from Marlon.
“Listen, let me just school you on something, young man," Terrence said to Marlon. "This ain’t all about your family, okay? Your family can’t bail you out of this one, alright. There’s other people in the world that are not Wayans’ people."
Folks were not happy with the way TJ was bashing the Wayans Family and Terrence became a trending topic with twitter slandering him and his career to smithereens. However, it turns out it was just a joke! They were filming a segment titled “What Haters Say” for their new comedy parody show, "The Ugly Truth."
“THE AWFUL TRUTH with me and Marlon is a COMEDY Parody show,” TJ tweeted. “NOT REAL. The segment is called “WHAT HATERS SAY.” New episode today. Please tell the ppl in the back."
TJ said Marlon is one of his best friends and he has the utmost respect for the Wayans Family its all love between them!
Spike Lee Walks Back Comments Defending “Friend” Woody Allen Against Cancel Culture!
Spike Lee says he was “wrong” to defend Woody Allen against “cancel” culture.
In a Friday interview on New York City radio station 710 WOR’s “In the Morning” program, Lee discussed Allen’s fall from grace with hosts Len Berman and Michael Riedel.
“I’d just like to say Woody Allen is a great, great filmmaker and this cancel thing is not just Woody. And I think when we look back on it we are going to see that — short of killing somebody — I don’t know that you can just erase somebody like they never existed,” Lee stated.
The director appeared on the program to promote his new Netflix film Da 5 Bloods. When the conversation turned to Allen, Lee explained, “Woody is a friend of mine, a fellow Knicks fan, and I know he’s going through it right now.”
It didn’t take long for Lee to start “going through it” himself. On Saturday afternoon, he issued an apology on social media saying he was “wrong” to defend Allen.
“I Deeply Apologize. My Words Were WRONG. I Do Not And Will Not Tolerate Sexual Harassment, Assault Or Violence. Such Treatment Causes Real Damage That Can’t Be Minimized.-Truly, Spike Lee,” the filmmaker tweeted at 5:14 p.m. ET.
Allen’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow accused him of molesting her in 1992 when she was a child. He has repeatedly denied the allegations and was not charged with a crime after two police investigations. The accusations led to the director becoming a pariah.
Former ‘SNL’ Cast Member Jay Pharoah Shares Video Of LAPD Officer Kneeling On His Neck In Case Of Mistaken Identity!
It’s a dangerous time to be a Black man jogging in America. Former Saturday Night Live cast member Jay Pharoah revealed in a video shared to his Instagram that he was approached by four members of the Los Angeles Police Department, cuffed, with one of the officers kneeling on his neck, all because he “fit the description.”
His run-in with the police officers took place just one week before the footage of Ahmaud Arbery was released. Pharoah was out jogging with noise-canceling headphones on when four LAPD police approached him from behind with their guns drawn.
“I see an officer to the left of me. I’m not thinking anything of it because I’m a law-abiding citizen. And also keep in mind I got my Bose headphones on, noise-canceling, so I’m in my zone right now,” Pharoah explains. “I look to my left, the officer, I see him coming with guns blazing. I see him say ‘get on the ground. Put your hands up like an airplane.’”
The whole encounter was captured on video by a nearby security camera, and in the video, you can see officers approach Pharoah, guns out, and he gets on the ground with his arms out. A squad car pulls up, and more officers rush onto the scene. Pharoah complies the entire time. While he’s on the ground, you see the officers cuff him, and one of them kneels on his neck to restrain him.

When he asked, “why are you doing this,” the officers told him that he fit the description of a person of interest— a black male wearing gray sweatpants and a gray shirt.
“If you look— Google right now, Jay Pharoah, you will see that you made a big mistake,” he told the officers.
After making a phone call, the officers realize it was, in fact, a mistake and they let him go.
“I could easily have been an Ahmaud Arbery or a George Floyd,” Pharoah says into the camera.
He ends the emotional video with “I’m Jay Pharoah, and I’m a black man in America and my life matters. Black lives always matter. They always matter.”
As Community Calls For Justice, Palmdale Officials Vow Full Investigation Into Robert Fuller's Death!
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says the initial results of a coroner's investigation indicate a 24-year-old man likely hanged himself in a Palmdale park this week. But scant details about the case — and the symbolism of a young Black man dying by hanging in the Antelope Valley — have some speculating that Robert Fuller was the victim of a hate crime.
A passerby walking near city hall around 4 a.m. Wednesday saw Fuller's body hanging from a tree in an area called Poncitlan Square and called 911, said Lt. Brandon Dean with the Palmdale sheriff's station. Homicide detectives responded, as did the coroner's office.
"From initial investigation of the scene and everything we've recovered, all signs right now lead us to believe this was a suicide," Dean told us Friday. "Without going into too much detail, it doesn't appear there was any sign of a fight or struggle."
He said the investigation is ongoing, and the coroner's office will perform an autopsy.
Palmdale City Manager J.J. Murphy released a statement that repeated the coroner's early findings of death by suicide, adding,"[s]adly, it is not the first such incident since the COVID-19 pandemic began."
At a raucous news conference later Friday afternoon, angry community members denounced city and law enforcement officials for publicly saying that Fuller may have taken his own life before the investigation is completed.
Palmdale Mayor Steve Hofbauer acknowledged that "we should have stated it better" that the finding is "preliminary," while adding, "but we were going off of what the coroner was telling the sheriff."
Hofbauer also said the only cameras in Poncitlan Square are low-resolution ones that follow traffic in real time but don't record.
The mayor and other officials stressed their desire to determine exactly what happened. Hofbauer said the city is reaching out to other investigative agencies to see if they can aid in the inquiry.
"We encourage anyone with information about this incident to call Sheriff's Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500," Hofbauer added.
City and sheriff's officials went from the news conference to meet privately with Fuller's family.
Fuller's sister, Diamond Alexander, posted a message on Facebook. "My little brother died here alone," she wrote, sharing an article about Fuller's death. "This s—t hurts, please keep us in prayers."
In another Facebook post around the same time, she urged people to share information. "If anyone seen [sic] anything please come forward," Alexander said.
Fuller was connected to addresses in Palmdale and Las Vegas, and Dean said the sheriff's department is "still talking to family members to see where he was laying his head at night."
On Twitter, speculation about what happened to Fuller drove the hashtag, "JusticeForRobertFuller," to trend nationally on Friday.
Palmdale's history includes documented activity by neo-Nazi youth gangs and housing discrimination against African Americans.
Fuller's death happened the day before 61-year-old Michael Thomas, a Black man, was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies during a domestic violence call in the neighboring Antelope Valley city of Lancaster.
LASD issued a statement about Thursday's shooting:
"The suspect refused to comply with the deputy's orders, and an altercation between the deputies and the suspect ensued. During the altercation, the suspect reached down and attempted to gain control of one of the deputy's firearm. It was at that time when a deputy-involved shooting occurred."
But the Antelope Valley Times reports that Thomas' girlfriend, Kimberly Smith, disputes this claim, saying she did not see Thomas reach for a gun. "[F]our police officers came in and twisted his arm, no handcuffs no nothing," she said.
L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva will hold a virtual town hall on June 15 at 2 p.m. to address "community concerns." Officials from the Lancaster and Palmdale Sheriff's stations will participate.
By late Friday afternoon, nearly 5,000 people had donated to a GoFundMe page that Diamond Alexander created in Robert Fuller's memory.
"Words can't describe how my family is feeling," she wrote. "We grew up there in the Antelope Valley, we have so many friends, families that loved Robert. Please help with whatever you can. We greatly appreciate everyone. Thank you for standing with us during this difficult time."
Plans were circulating on social media Friday morning for a community rally on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the park where Fuller's body was found. One flier reads, "Robert was murdered in front of city hall. Hung in a tree & they are trying to cover it up."
In the statement he issued earlier Friday, City Manager Murphy said many "are suffering extreme mental anguish and the City wants everyone to know that help is available."
Lonnie Walker IV Shares His Story Of Being Sexually Abused As A Child!
On Thursday, NBA player #LonnieWalkerIV who plays for the #SanAntonioSpur, took to social media to share a very personal story with his fans.
Walker uploaded a video to social media of him receiving a haircut, which had a symbolic meaning behind it than just a general haircut. Walker went into detail for the reasoning for his haircut in the caption for the post.
“The real truth as to why I started doing this early 5th grade, it was a cloaking device for me,” Walker wrote to over 222k users that follow him on the Instagram platform.
Walker continued by revealing that as a kid, he was sexually abused.
“During the summer of my 5th-grade year I was around more family. Some that names will be left alone I was around more. I was sexually harassed, raped, abused, I even got accustomed to it because being at that age you don’t know what is what,” Walker continued. “I had a mindset that my hair was something that I can control. My hair was what I can make and create and be mine. And it gave [me] confidence.”
Walker got even deeper, expressing that as of lately he hasn’t been in a good place, as he reflects on the traumatic experiences from his past.
“As of recently, I wasn’t at my best. Previous History popping up in my head and it sucked mentally “demons”….. because of this virus, I began to truly look at myself in the mirror and see who I truly was even behind closed doors. Long story short I have found peace and internal happiness through this journey god willingly. I forgave everyone even the people that don’t deserve it why? Because it’s dead weight.,” Walker shared.
Walker shared that him cutting his hair was a symbol of him removing a mask that consisted of insecurities.
“Time doesn’t wait on anyone so why should I waste my time on it,” Walker added. “Me cutting my hair was more than a cut. My hair was a mask of me hiding the insecurity’s that I felt the world wasn’t ready for. But now better then ever.”
The basketball player continued by writing that cutting his hair has had a big impact and effect on him spiritually.
“Out with old. In with the new. I have shed my skin mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Life will always be hard. Gotta play with the cards your dealt with and try and make a winning hand. And if you lose. It’s never a lost. It’s a lesson,” he wrote.
Walker ended his post by sharing that he’ll be taking a break from social media as he’s still working through healing from his past experiences as a kid.
“I’m gonna be off this for awhile still growing through this. Just know I love each and everyone one of y’all. Peace love and happiness,” Walker concluded.
Nickelodeon Reveals Spongebob is Gay in Honor of Pride Month!
The children’s TV network made the big reveal Saturday morning (Jun. 13) in a tweet celebrating Pride Month, writing: “Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month.”
The tweet featured images of three Nick characters: Spongebob, Schwoz Schwartz from Henry Danger and Korra from Avatar: The Legend of Korra.
Though the tweet doesn’t actually say any of the characters are gay, it insinuates it with the colorful backgrounds/imagery
For what it’s worth, Spongebob’s creator, Stephen Hillenberg, said back in the early 2000s that Spongebob wasn’t “gay,” but actually asexual … meaning he has no sexual desires or preference for any sex/gender.
But as many people on Twitter are pointing out, being asexual does make him technically “Queer,” which represents the Q in LGBTQ+.
In fact, a longer version of the famous acronym is “LGBTQIA,” which stands for “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersexual, Asexual.”
Nike To Recognize Juneteenth As An Annual Paid Holiday!
In an internal memo sent to Nike (NKE) staff obtained by Yahoo Finance, CEO John Donahoe announced that the company would recognize Juneteenth an annual paid holiday for U.S. employees.
“As many of you may know, next Friday, June 19, is Juneteenth, a day commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. Starting this year and going forward, Nike will recognize Juneteenth as an annual paid holiday in the U.S,” he wrote. Donahoe said doing so is an “important opportunity is to better commemorate and celebrate Black history and culture.”
In addition, the Swoosh brand has also launched a diversity education program. “Education can play an important role in the fight against systemic racism and bigotry. So from June 19 to July 4, we will offer programming and learning opportunities available to all employees on topics specific to racial inequality. Our expectation is that each of us use this time to continue to educate ourselves and challenge our perspectives and learn. I know that is what I intend to do.”
Donahoe also noted that the sportswear giant will make other efforts to ensure that the company’s recent stances on social justice are not just rhetoric.
“When we say that Black Lives Matter, it applies to the world outside of Nike and, importantly, it applies to our Black teammates within Nike. Simply put, we need to hold ourselves to a high standard given the heritage of our company and our brand,” he said.
“I strongly believe that focusing on a more diverse and inclusive culture for our Black teammates does not take away from our commitment to build a more diverse and inclusive culture for all groups inside Nike. It is not zero sum. In fact, most of the actions that we must take are consistent with what is required for everyone.”
Donahoe then laid out a number of initiatives the company is currently taking in an effort to further social causes the company believes in.
The Nike CEO plans to set “representation goals” which will hold him and the rest of Nike’s leadership accountable when it comes to ensuring black, Latinx and women are adequately represented at Nike. The company also plans to increase its investment of employee professional development.
“Our aspiration is for Nike to be a leader where diversity, inclusion and belonging become a strength for our team and in our culture. This will not be easy, and it will not happen overnight. We need to be resolute, not reactive. It will require a long-term commitment and will demand sustained focus. We will have both.”
Twitter and Square have decided to declare Juneteenth a company holiday as well.
