#OHMY #DRAGCON: LAPD on Heightened Alert at RuPaul’s DragCon After Former ‘Drag Race’ Winner Makes Online Threats!
The Los Angeles Police Department will have an increased presence when RuPaul’s DragCon kicks off today in Los Angeles after a former “Drag Race” contestant made ominous threats via social media.
Tyra Sanchez (real name James Ross IV) won season two of the popular show but was reportedly banned from this year’s event after threatening other contestants on social media. Sanchez responded to the punishment by posting on Facebook, “Fair warning: DO NOT attend RuPaul’s DragCon on May 12, 2018. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
A spokesperson for the LAPD said they are aware of the threats (Sanchez posted several follow-up messages) and will be on “heightened alert” this weekend. Police say they will send more officers to the Los Angeles Convention Center, but are not specifically investigating Sanchez.
Sanchez also has the word “B.O.O.M.” with a countdown timer on his website, which expires tomorrow.
According to Hornet.com, Sanchez made threats on social media last year (right around the time of DragCon NYC) aimed at another “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star where Sanchez said he “dreams of taking my scepter and knocking you across the face a few times.”
In 2014, Sanchez was arrested in Virginia for misdemeanor assault and in 2011 was arrested in Georgia for having a very small amount of weed.
A rep for DragCon says “The LAPD is engaged and involved in its process of investigation.”
