#MAGFAB: Jennifer Hudson for Essence Magazine!
“My entire career is a mind-blowing experience,” says Jennifer Hudson. The star, 43, tells me this as she sits cozily in the middle of the set of her talk show, Warner Bros. Television Group’s The Jennifer Hudson Show, in Burbank, California, called “The Happy Place.” I’ve just reminded the Chicago native that she’s come extraordinarily far from where she started in the industry, competing on American Idol in big curls, with an even bigger personality and voice, 20 years ago as of this year.
“God always has a little bit more for you than what you ask for. So, I stay in awe,” she says. “Every time I come out those double doors that say ‘Jennifer Hudson,’ I think: Is this real? Is this really happening? But that’s why I never sleep. Why sleep if you’re busy living your dream?”
What a dream it’s been. Hudson won an Academy Award for playing Effie White in Dreamgirls in 2007. She’s since gone on to join the ranks of Black EGOT winners (to-
date, there have been only nine) and, since 2022, has been the host of her very own syndicated daytime talk show. To be in her third season at a time when such productions can come and go quickly is a significant feat. The program works because Hudson genuinely enjoys doing it.

“I love to hear about other people’s journeys and experiences,” she says. “Those are the things that inspire me and it's happening more and more and more. Like, I can't answer the door without somebody telling me their story, and I'm listening, too! When people sit in this chair next to me, I feel like I'm going on their journey by hearing them speak in the interviews, and I'm so intrigued by it.”

A short list of some of Hudson’s favorite guests include Magic Johnson, Smokey Robinson, Dionne Warwick and Sheryl Lee Ralph. “This is the original Dreamgirl I’m sitting here with!” she recalls thinking in the Emmy winner’s presence. “You’re witnessing me have heartfelt, sentimental moments, which I have with all of my guests—but some of them hit differently.” She adds, “We have such a great time. That’s the most exciting part about coming back. This feels like home now."

She also names Mariah Carey as a guest she’s been starstruck by, one she is now lucky enough to call a friend. Hudson had the chance to collaborate with the Queen of Christmas on the remake of her track “Oh Santa!” in 2020 (which also featured Ariana Grande). Some of that holiday spirit has stayed with the star, who is now preparing to release her very own Christmas album, The Gift of Love, on October 18. But Hudson says she’s always been a holiday stan, something she bonded with Carey over. So, while this is her first Christmas album, she says there’s much more to come.

“It's something I wanted to do throughout my entire career. I am a holiday fanatic, and I am glad I can share my joy with everybody now through music,” she says. “When I was growing up, I used to recreate ‘Oh Holy Night.’ Every year, I would find a new arrangement and give it to my family members as a gift. They were probably sick of my ‘Oh Holy Nights,’ but that's my favorite holiday song. And so now to be able to have The Gift of Love and share it with the world, but with songs more than just ‘Oh, Holy Night,’ but it’s on there! I cannot wait. It’s been Christmas all year for me.”
Hudson has plenty to look forward to this fall, from dropping the holiday album to filming a bevy of new episodes of The Jennifer Hudson Show. Amid all that, she’s still a hands-on parent. The only thing that’s changed is that her son, David Otunga, Jr., is not a baby anymore. He is now “towering” over her, she says, and he just turned 15. “Each phase of raising a kid is different from the last. So, it’s like, Okay, how do you need me now?” she says.“How do I parent you now with where you are right now? So, we're finding a new norm, and I’m preparing him for what's to come.”

She’s teaching him how to be as independent as possible ahead of college, or whatever his plans will inevitably be, and is confident in what she’s taught him in the first 15 years of his life. Still, Hudson is like every mother, catching herself staring at her now teenager in astonishment.

“He went to sleep in the room, took a nap with his mohawk, and when I tell you he came out, had a whole new nose, and shot up. I was like, ‘Where did my child go? Who is this?’ That’s how quickly it happens,” she says. “I’m just taking it in and being the mommy he needs right now—or praying to be.”

As her relationship with her son transforms, she shares that all the pouring into and protecting has minimized some, so some of that attention now goes back to her. When asked what she does to pour back into herself, Hudson says it’s all about the simple things that remind her she deserves some of the time she doles out to everything and everyone else.

“When I wake up in the morning, what's going to make me smile today? What is it that my person needs today? You know what I mean? Not boss lady, mama, and all the other titles in the world. The first check-in is, Okay, how am I feeling today? And then, what would be that one thing if I can't do nothin’ else in this busy day, what is the one thing I can do that I can say I did for me? And you know, one of the things is fixing my bed. Can’t leave it a mess. The least I should be able to do is make sure I fix my bed before I walk out this door or before this day starts. Why? Because that's something for me.”

She adds, “For me, it could be the simplest thing of bike riding. I have my son and all his friends. I'm like, ‘Listen, I’m going to ride my bike, and I'm going to need y'all to figure out how y'all are going to get to Walter’s house? Okay? Y'all old enough, but this is something I've been wanting to do, and I'm going to take this bike ride.’ So, whatever that is for you, make that time for you to be able to do it, even when it's the busiest of days. Do that one little simple thing for yourself.”

If Hudson didn’t find time to care for herself, allowing her to feel and be her best, she couldn’t have reached this place in her career. She couldn’t have become an EGOT winner with all four major American performing arts awards on her shelf, a “Happy Place” set on a studio lot that she now calls home, three studio albums, and a fourth to come, without loving every bit of what she does. That includes the not-so-pretty parts.

“It is the fruits of the labor, the hard work. And it takes a long time in this industry to get to a place where you can do what you want. Oh, baby, I'm there. ‘I ain't doing that.’ You have to earn that right,” Hudson says. “But what's gotten me here is doing it for the love—and
realizing that everything ain’t gon’ be Dreamgirls.”

She continues, “When you realize that in your career and you do it for the passion and the love, you can continue on. It's going to be ups, it's going to be downs, it's going to be great things when we break records, and it's going to be tough things too, but you can't allow the tough things to stop you just because you’re not breaking records all the time. That's not a career.

“I feel like not being discouraged by the roller coaster of it all got me here. I always say I hopped on that American Idol roller coaster, and it's been going ever since,” Hudson adds. “A lot of people tend to just focus on success or everything needing to always just be that, but that's not life. The longevity comes in when you really can ride that roller coaster and be able to say, I've been in the game 20 years. Maybe the ride can break some people, but I'm not the kind that gets discouraged. I do this because I love it.”

The Jennifer Hudson Show airs on weekdays. Check your local listings.

#RHOA: Ya Gurl NeNe Leakes Reflects on Life Without Her Husband Gregg: ‘I Was Lucky and Blessed’
Three years after losing her husband, Gregg Leakes, to colon cancer, NeNe Leakes still feels the weight of his absence daily.
The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum spoke candidly about her late husband during an Instagram Live session captured by Livebitez. She told viewers, “You guys have no idea, like I miss Gregg so much,” while responding to a fan who wrote, “I know you miss Gregg.”
Reflecting on her marriage, NeNe shared, “There’s this old saying that, ‘You never miss a good thing till it’s gone,’ like that s—t is for real.” She continued, “Like, I didn’t even half the time realize how valuable Gregg was to my life or to us until he was gone.”
NeNe also admitted she’s still adjusting to his absence, sharing, “There are so many times when I want to be like, ‘Oh, Gregg would like that,’ you know. Then I have to remind myself that Gregg is not here.”

The actress praised her late husband, telling viewers Gregg “was great.” She added, “He did so much to propel my career and to support me.”
NeNe noted, “It’s hard for anybody to walk in his shoes. Gregg is like that guy—really. I was lucky and blessed by God to have such a great husband for so many years.”

Gregg lost his battle with stage 3 colon cancer in 2021. The couple first tied the knot in 1997, divorced in 2011, and remarried two years later.
In the past, NeNe has discussed the idea of remarrying, stating she’d put a no-strings-attached agreement in place solely to be supportive during “hard times or medical times.” She was previously linked to African entrepreneur Nyonisela Sioh, but in a July 2023 interview with Atlanta producer Carlos King, she shared that the two were taking a break.

#HipHopNews:  Chingy Responds To Backlash Over Scheduled Performance At Republican LGBTQ Event
Chingy‘s impending appearance at the Log Cabin Republicans’ upcoming Red White & Rock concert has gotten some criticism, but he’s not backing down.

The event, put on by “the nation’s original and largest organization representing gay conservatives and allies,” is happening on September 29 and is set to feature Jessica Sutta of the Pussycat Dolls and country rocker Jesse Keith Whitley, among others.
More controversially, Donald Trump Jr. and his (maybe ex-)girlfriend Kimberly Guilfoyle will also be there.

Baller Alert posted about Chingy’s appearance on the bill, and the rapper himself jumped into the comments to respond to disappointed and confused fans.
“I’m a say this one time,” he began. “My job is to perform and get paid to perform, not caurr [sic] about politics. Now y’all find [something] else to do with yurr [sic] time.”

After several commenters speculated that he was performing at the event, where ticket prices start at $1,000, because he was “down bad” financially, Chingy followed up
“You can’t be down bad when you just bought a 500k house,” he shot back. “Those people don’t hate me because they love my music. Music isn’t racist and that’s how I play it… I’m a performers w[h]ether theses [sic] people political homosexual or whatever they all love music… [M]y job as an artist is to perform and make timeless music.”

Chingy most recently made headlines last month when, seemingly out of nowhere, Drakepraised the St. Louis rapper’s 2003 hit “One Call Away”  – but it was unclear if Drizzy was being serious or sarcastic.

Taking to his Instagram Story on August 18, Drizzy shared a screenshot of some of the song’s lyrics:
“The next day, I’m with the fellas at the cage playin’ ball/ Here she come with her friends, they posted up on the wall/ Now I’m showin’ out, tryna dunk, tryna dribble/ Break fast through the middle just to see her smile and giggle.”
Underneath it, he wrote:  “Nah Chingy I felt this like why do I play better when the tings aren’t watching you really struck a chord with this one goated lyric.”

He then had more to say, posting the screenshot a second time and adding: “Also, the face you said tryna dribble like off that bar we know you were ass at ball but your ting showed up and you started doing too much like this real af you are a guy for that bar.”

Darius Rucker sentenced to probation in Tennessee
Darius Rucker will be put on probation for nearly a year after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor drug charge in Williamson County, Tenn.
The 58-year-old country star was booked earlier this year on three misdemeanor charges — two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance and one count of a violation of vehicle registration law — in relation to a 2023 traffic stop. On Sept. 10, he entered a plea of no contest to one simple possession charge.

By pleading no contest, Rucker waived his right to a trial in Tennessee and will accept a sentence of 11 months and 29 days of probation, with the charges expunged if he completes the period, Penn Live reported.

The Hootie & the Blowfish frontman is now ready to move on with his life.
“On behalf of Darius, we want to thank the Honorable Judge Tom Taylor, and the District Attorney’s office for the time and care taken in considering the details of this case and its final disposition,” Rucker’s attorneys, Mark Puryear and Richard Gusler, told WKRN, a Nashville TV station, in a statement. “In addition, we want to thank and commend the members of the Franklin Police Department and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Department for the respectful and professional manner in which they treated Darius during this process. Darius looks forward to working through this probationary period and putting this all behind him.”

Rucker rewarded for ‘good character’

The district attorney had said in court he recommended one count of simple possession and the expired registration because of the “Wagon Wheel” hitmaker’s “good character.”

Rucker previously admitted he was “shocked” when he learned a warrant was issued for his arrest, so long after he was originally stopped by cops.

“I mean, I looked back at that and I was like, ‘I got stopped by a police officer and I had a little bit of pot, and I think a little bit of some mushrooms or something in the car, and he let me go,’ ” he told People magazine. “And a year later, I got a phone call from a buddy [who] said, ‘I think I just saw an arrest warrant for you.’ It shocked me. My friends who were in the police department were like, ‘Have you p—ed somebody off up here?’ Because this is crazy that they’re doing this a year later.”

Tia Mowry Opens Up About Estranged Relationship With Twin Sister Tamera: ‘I Wish We Were Still Close’

Tia Mowry shook the table of social media when she revealed that she and her twin sister, Tamera Mowry-Housley, are no longer close.
The revelation came in a sneak peek of Tia’s forthcoming WeTV reality TV series, “My Next Act,” slated to premiere on Friday, October 4.
In the clip, the actress becomes emotional while talking about how difficult it was going through her divorce from Cory Hardrict.

“Being alone has been the most challenging part of my divorce. It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close. And I could pick up the phone and call her. But, that’s just not where we are right now.”
It’s unclear when the “Sister, Sister” bond between Tia and Tamera became “distant, distant,” but it’s sad.
You may recall that during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Tamera Mowry-Housley revealed she didn’t even know Tia was doing a reality show.

“Tia is living her life right now, and Tia is doing Tia.”
When asked about Tia’s show, Tamera said, “I didn’t know until I found out with the rest of the world.”
The likelihood of seeing Tamera on Tia’s new show is slim.
She told ET, “Uh, she didn’t ask me. So, I take that as, no! No, she’s like, this is my story, and you know, I can only respect that. I feel like she doesn’t want any of our input right now. And I can only respect that.”

“Tia and Tamera” are currently trending on Twitter as the public reacts and weighs in on the relationship of our fave twins.
Let’s just send a prayer for healing and restoration

Janet Jackson Interview with The Guardian Says She ‘Heard’ Kamala Harris ‘Is Not Black’
Janet Jackson is making headlines and trending on social media after claiming she “heard” that VP Kamala Harris “is not Black” and that her “father is white.”

The 58-year-old pop icon made the statements during an interview with The Guardian when asked for her thoughts on America potentially electing its first Black female president.

Her response left the interviewer “floored.”
The interview excerpt reads:
“Well, you know what they supposedly said?” she asks me. “She’s not black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian.”
She looks at me expectantly, perhaps assuming that I have Indian heritage.
“Well, she’s both,” I offer.
“Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days,” she coughs. “I was told that they discovered her father was white.”

I’m floored at this point. It’s well known that Harris’s father is a Jamaican economist, a Stanford professor who split from her Indian mother when she was five.
“My mother understood very well that she was raising two black daughters,” Harris wrote in her book The Truths We Hold.
The people who are most vocal in questioning the facts of Harris’s identity tend to be hardcore QAnon-adjacent, Trump-loving conspiracy theorists.

I don’t think Jackson falls into that camp, but I do wonder what the algorithms are serving her. I start again.
Harris has dual heritage, I say, and, given this moment, does Jackson think America is ready for her – if we agree she’s black? Or, OK, a woman of colour?

“I don’t know,” Jackson stage whispers. “Honestly, I don’t want to answer that because I really, truthfully, don’t know. I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.”
She doesn’t think there will be a peaceful transition of power?
“I think there might be mayhem,” she falters. “Either way it goes, but we’ll have to see.”

UPDATE! She has since apologized.
Good.

Nicki Minaj Reminds Everyone That Jay-Z Is Diddy's 'BFF' In New Unfiltered Rant

Over the past couple of weeks, Nicki Minaj has been embroiled in a heated feud with Jay-Z and his affiliates, following their decision to select Kendrick Lamar over her former mentor Lil Wayne as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show. Her criticisms continued after P. Diddy was arrested on sex-trafficking charges.

She brought up Jay-Z's association with Diddy amidst the latter's damning legal troubles while addressing the backlash she's been receiving over her husband's criminal past, "They gotta keep the conversation on me so that no one asks about these charges against their BFF."
"Worried about the tea of a 15 year old child who was railroaded," she referred to Kenneth Petty's past legal trouble before noting the silence that's been going on for years over Diddy's alleged debaucheries, "but no comments on the tea & baby oil that's been going on for decades & as recent as months ago?!?!!!"

"If 15 year olds need to be held accountable & told they can't ever move past their past, then what about the 30 year olds who groomed & groomed, sat by & was silent, etc. oh right. Let's keep the blogs focused on Oniqua. Short & Stoute d**k don't wanna talk bout him friend dem??! LMFAO."
Minaj's tirade isn't just about the Super Bowl; it extends to a series of contentious episodes involving her TIDAL deal with Jay-Z. In a dramatic reveal, she doubled down on her frustration over an alleged unpaid deal, claiming, "I received a call advising tidal was sold & they made no money on the deal so all they could offer me was a million dollars."

"But wait, there's more! The lawyer advised that Desirat advised him that I HAD TO SIGN THE AGREEMENT IN 24 HOURS IF I WANTED THE 1MM or the 'offer' was off the table. Listen to the end of 'Fractions' for what my response was."

She went on, "I was scammed & offered a million dollars to be silenced. I declined. The grace of God is sufficient. I didn't need their hush money."
As the controversy unfolds, it's clear that Nicki Minaj's grievances are multi-faceted. Whether or not these rants will lead to any reconciliations remains to be seen, but the drama has certainly captured the public's attention, offering a raw glimpse into the tangled web of music industry politics.

Questlove is archiving the magic of Earth, Wind & Fire with forthcoming documentary
The 21st of September will forever be an unofficial day to recognize the greatness of legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire. But next year, sometime in 2025, Questlove will make sure droves of fans celebrate and reflect on the unmatched musical influence of one of the greatest acts the industry has ever known.

In a Sept. 20 Instagram post, The Roots drummer announced that he is working on the first official documentary of the group comprised of original members Maurice White, Verdine White, Philip Bailey, and Larry Dunn. Over the years, iterations of the lineup have also included bandmates Ralph Johnson, Al McKay, Roland Bautista, and Andrew Woolfolk.

Founder and frontman Maurice passed away at the age of 74 in 2016, saxophonist Woolfolk at 71 in 2022, and drummer Fred White died at age 67 in 2023. In a released statement, remaining members Bailey, Verdine, and Johnson said, “We look forward to this in-depth journey of our band, and are so excited to have Questlove directing the documentary.”

Queslove made his directorial debut in 2021 with Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised), a documentary about the six-weekend 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. The acclaimed project earned him an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature at the 2022 Academy Awards.

In his post about the legendary elements, he wrote, “The story of how a band led by a genius from Chicago changed our way of thinking, our minds, and our hearts.” The group has sold more than 90 million records, won six Grammys, and influenced scores of artists with their classics, such as the indelible “September” and “Reasons.”

Three years ago, in 2021, they were a “Shining Star” that shone brightly during the pandemic shutdown when they had millions of people dancing throughout the night with their Verzuz against The Isley Brothers — further proving that their catalog and cultural relevance spanned more than five decades since their 1969 debut.

That impact was not lost on Questlove, whose post continued, “Having been baptized in the Afrocentric joy river of this powerhouse unit, I’ve learned about them, I’ve learned about us & more importantly, I’ve learned about and rediscovered myself in the process. I’m so excited to be directing a documentary preserving their positive but VERY vulnerable and real story of Soul, Self & Struggle. This is the story of joy, persistence, love, pain, magic, and self-discovery. This is Earth, Wind & Fire.”

The project will be brought to fruition in association with Sony Music Vision and producing partners from RadicalMedia, Broken Halo Entertainment, and Kinfolk Management + Media. A projected release date is forthcoming.

Issa Rae says there’s no chance ‘Insecure’ will comeback as a reboot

The time for “Insecure” fans to make peace with the hit series’ five-season run has officially arrived because the show is never coming back. The comedic drama that premiered on HBO in 2016 wrapped its final episode in 2021, insinuating that its main characters, Issa Dee, Lawrence Walker, Molly Carter, Kelli Prenny, and Tiffany DuBois all seemed to live happily ever after.

Issa Rae co-created and starred in the South Los Angeles-based series as Issa Dee, with co-stars Jay Ellis, Yvonne Orji, Natasha Rothwell, and Amanda Seales rounding out the ensemble cast of 20-something-year-olds trying to make heads or tails of life, love, and friendships. The relatable storylines and popular music easily landed the hit show on lists ranking the most iconic Black sitcoms, right along with the likes of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and “Living Single.”

But unlike the Will Smith-led show that was reimagined through a dramatic lens for Peacock’s uber-successful “Bel-Air,” Rae has no interest in revisiting the lives of the beloved “Insecure” characters with a new cast and perspective in the future. She addressed the matter head-on when she joined Carmelo Anthony and The Kid Mero for the latest episode of their “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast.

Point, blank, period, it is not going to happen. The “Rap Sh!t” creator first explained, “No ‘cause it’s so personal to me,” then drawing a parallel to the work of fellow HBO star Larry David, one of the co-creators of “Seinfeld” and the long-running “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

“Nobody else can do ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ ‘cause that’s his s**t and his gripes,” said Rae. “So, I would almost feel like, ‘The f**k?’ It would feel like the AI voice of BeyoncΓ©, no, that’s my s**t, and those were my experiences,” as she added, “If they wanted to create something else, then sure, but, no, I have no desire for a reboot of ‘Insecure.’”

While the fans can release any lingering hope of seeing an “Insecure” reboot return to their television screens, they can always revisit its 44 episodes on streaming platforms. Last summer, to the excitement of viewers, the NAACP Award-winning series landed on Netflix.

T.J. Holmes & Amy Robach Considering 'Couples Therapy,' Don't Want To 'Rush Into' Marriage
Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes recently admitted that they're in no rush to marry but have discussed their future together.
Holmes also shared his changing views on therapy, noting it helped him through dark times, and joked about trying couples therapy with Robach.
Despite the scandal surrounding their romance, T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach have consistently denied infidelity, stating they were separated from their spouses before dating.
On their new podcast "I Do, Part 2," with Jana Kramar and Jennie Garth, which explores "love, resilience, and second chances," Robach revealed she and Holmes aren't in any hurry to tie the knot.

"There is no urgency in the sense that I'm 51 years old. I don't need to rush into anything," Robach said, per Page Six.
Reflecting on her past, Robach admitted, "I think I have rushed into everything in my life up until now. But, he knows I wanna get married, and I know he wants to get married."
The former ABC news anchor, who began dating Holmes in 2022, assured listeners that they're on the same page when it comes to their future.
However, While they frequently talk about marriage, they've chosen not to set a definitive timeline.

"We haven't put a timeline together, and we talk about it all the time," Robach stated. "I don't think a week goes by where we don't discuss like, 'Should we? Should we?'"
Holmes jumped in during the podcast chat, expressing how being with Robach has changed his perspective on love.
He said, "I am such a fan of love. There is nothing I love more than a wedding and just the idea of somebody making that commitment and a new beginning and building something together."

Holmes further explained that this time feels different for him, noting, "It doesn't feel like the next step. [Like], 'What needs to be done? It's been so long.' No, I just want to marry her."
Robach echoed his feelings, telling listeners that she finds "a sense of safety and comfort" in their relationship.
"There is an ease in knowing that person has publicly and legally committed to working it out with you," she said, adding, "I do want to be married, and I do love the idea of having a partner and sticking with each other through the good days and the bad."

Mike Tyson Reveals Legendary Boxing Promoter Don King is Hospitalized Amid Major Health Concerns

*Legendary boxing promoter Don King, known for his flamboyant personality and significant influence in the sport, is currently facing health challenges that have led to a recent hospitalization. King spent over a week receiving treatment at a local facility, a rough patch that highlights his ongoing health struggles.

The 93-year-old promoter’s condition was first revealed by former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson during an interview on the “It Is What It Is” podcast with Cam’ron and Mase.
“Don is not doing well right now,” Tyson shared on Friday. “He’s probably close to 100 years old, he’s not doing well.”

Disturbingly, sources close to King indicated that he has faced severe health issues, including a 10-day stint in the hospital that required a blood transfusion. According to reports, King is now recovering at home, reports TMZ Sports.
The relationship between Tyson and King has been fraught with tension over the years, particularly stemming from past legal disputes. In 1998, Tyson famously sued King for $100 and ended up settling for $14 million, leading Tyson to sever ties with King in the early 2000s. Yet, during the recent interview, Tyson reflected on their tumultuous history as a learning experience.

“I believe Don King pretty much educated me,” Tyson said, looking back on the financial stakes involved in their partnership. “That will never happen again.”

This sentiment echoes the dualities of King’s legacy—steeped in both significant achievements and controversies throughout his career.
Born on August 20, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio, Don King’s ascent in the boxing world is as remarkable as it is complicated. Raised in a financially disadvantaged environment, King’s early life was marked by hardships and tumult, including a prison sentence for manslaughter in the 1960s.

He later redirected his energy into boxing, gaining prominence for promoting legendary fighters like Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. His pivotal moment came in the 1970s with the organization of events like the “Rumble in the Jungle.”

Over decades, King has worked alongside some of the most famous names in boxing, including Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, famed for his ability to generate blockbuster fights. However, his career hasn’t been free from controversy. Throughout the years, he has faced numerous allegations of fraud, corruption, and financial mismanagement, leading to a polarizing reputation within the boxing community.

As Don King recovers from his recent health scare, the reflections of Mike Tyson, who has been through the highs and lows of their partnership, serve as a reminder of both the lessons learned and the complex tapestry of King’s life and career in boxing. With a legacy that intertwines success and scandal, Don King remains a captivating figure in the annals of sports history.

FDA Approves First Self-Administered Flu Vaccine Nasal Spray

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has greenlit the first-ever self-administered flu vaccine, FluMist.
The agency made the announcement on Friday, explaining that FluMist is a convenient nasal spray option instead of a traditional injection.  Manufactured by MedImmune and acquired by AstraZeneca in 2007, FluMist was initially approved in 2003 for individuals aged 5 to 49. Its use has since been expanded to include children as young as two.

With this new approval, FluMist became the first flu vaccine that can be administered without the need for a healthcare provider. This innovative spray, which contains a weakened form of flu virus strains, can now be administered by the vaccine recipient or a caregiver who is 18 or older, though a prescription is still required.

Peter Marks, director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, expressed enthusiasm for the development:
“Today’s approval of the first influenza vaccine for self- or caregiver-administration provides a new option for receiving a safe and effective seasonal influenza vaccine with greater convenience, flexibility, and accessibility for individuals and families,” he said in a statement.

AstraZeneca plans to make FluMist available through a third-party online pharmacy. The process will involve a screening and eligibility assessment, with the pharmacy handling prescriptions and shipping the vaccine directly to the recipient.

This development comes at a crucial time.  Flu vaccination rates in the U.S. have been declining since the COVID-19 pandemic, dropping below 50 percent in the 2022-2023 flu season. The new option for self-administration is a hopeful step toward improving these rates and enhancing public health.
