#MAGFAB: Singer Tyla For ELLE US October 2024
Inside the dizzying, meteoric rise of a true African pop star. The night before the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Tyla was unusually calm. The South African singer was about to give a surprise performance at the Prelude to the Olympics, held at the Fondation Louis Vuitton and attended by celebrities from Zendaya to LeBron James. “I was asked to do the event by Pharrell [Williams, Louis Vuitton Men’s creative director], so it was insane—an instant ‘Yes,’” she says. “Sometimes I’m nervous, like I’m really nervous.” But this time, Tyla looked forward to the show the entire day. She dressed in an oversize black and yellow jersey from Louis Vuitton Men’s yet-to-be-released spring 2025 collection, over spandex shorts and thigh-high boots, and performed four songs, including her runaway hit “Water.” “I felt hot,” she says with a smile. “When I got on, I knew it was going to be that type of crowd: professional, don’t dance much. But regardless, I had so much fun.” Tyla teased the VIP audience as she sang: “I even called them out onstage like, ‘You guys are stiff.’”
Days before, Tyla had been in London, where she was in rehearsal for upcoming shows—including Chicago’s Lollapalooza, her first big music festival in the United States—and making both a deluxe album of her self-titled debut EP and new music. At 22, she has had one of the fastest, most explosive rises in music—a true African pop star with a following that spans much of the world. “I just started seeing stars,” Ezekiel Lewis, president of Tyla’s label, Epic Records, says of first seeing a video of her performing. “It was a grand opportunity to help collaborate and make something truly original.”
Just a couple of years ago, the singer, born Tyla Laura Seethal, was in high school in her hometown, the sprawling, dynamic city of Johannesburg, where she grew up on the east side. As a little girl, she posted videos of herself covering pop songs by the likes of Justin Bieber. When she started making music in high school, she experimented by mixing genres from R&B to pop with her foremost love: amapiano, South African house music. When she heard the log drums of the song “Iskhathi (Gonggong)” by Kwiish SA at the age of 14, she was seduced. “When amapiano would come on, we would see everybody’s moves just change. Seeing the energy of it…it felt so spiritual,” she tells me. “I always wanted to mix it with other styles that I enjoy, like R&B and pop—and make it my own.” It was frustrating to watch her country’s unique music, from amapiano to kwaito house, go unnoticed by the rest of the world. “I felt it was so special, and it needed to be shared. I did my own version of it in hopes of getting people to go deeper and discover the other artists we have and the origins of my sound.”
Tyla’s family encouraged her. Her mom, who was creative and did everything from making jewelry and candles to selling chocolate and real estate, told her she could sing. Her aunt, a professional dancer, taught her how to belly dance when she was small. And her grandmother told her stories of her days in singing competitions, back when she was vying for money and packets of cigarettes. “I was inspired. She would always push me. She’d make me sing a song 20 times until I got it right,” Tyla says.
Tyla was precocious, and she knew she wanted to be a pop star. She auditioned for all the school plays, but singing was her dream. “It’s something I always really wanted, for myself, and for Africa, and for the world. Something different, something original,” she tells me. “I also just wanted to dress up. I’m not always inspirational, guys!”

#RHOA: Riley Burruss and Porsha Williams Recently Reunited & We Have the Glorious Photo
Porsha Williams might be an Atlanta native, but she recently had a run-in with a New York local — Kandi Burruss' daughter Riley Burruss, who moved from the ATL to NYC several years back for college.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member took to Instagram last week, where she posted a series of photos taken at the Laquan Smith fashion show in New York City during Fashion Week. In the NYFW photos, Porsha can be seen standing next to the fashion designer, other celebrities, and her sister Lauren Williams, while wearing a black leather corset and matching skirt set. In the series of pics, Porsha also snapped a super special photo in which she's standing in between Lauren and Riley, who looked stunning in a cream-colored, halter-neck dress.

Riley returned the love to Porsha in the comments of the post. The NYU graduate commented with two red heart emojis, showing her appreciation to her mom's friend.

Kandi Burruss will not be returning for RHOA Season 16, but Porsha will be back after being a cast member on RHOA from Season 5 through Season 13. Unfortunately, the two friends won't be reunited on camera, but Kandi was already aware of this when she made the decision to leave the show. During an April broadcast of Andy Cohen's show, Radio Andy, Kandi reacted to Porsha's return to RHOA and revealed why she wasn't too surprised by this news.

"I mean, I already knew that Porsha was thinking about coming back when I was thinking about leaving, because we both talked with each other about it," she explained.

#MusicNews: Gwen Stefani Announces Fifth Studio Album ‘Bouquet’

The album's lead single, "Somebody Else's," is set to arrive on Friday (Sept. 20).
Gwen Stefani is ready to bloom! The superstar revealed on Wednesday (Sept. 18) that her fifth studio album, Bouquet, will be arriving on November 15.

She also unveiled the album’s cover art and track list. The photo features Stefani in a cowboy hat and a brown plaid suit, laying across a bed while holding a white flower. The 10-song track list features a single collaboration, her previously released love song, “Purple Irises,” with her husband Blake Shelton. Additionally, the album’s lead single, “Somebody Else’s,” is set to arrive on Friday (Sept. 20).
Bouquet marks Stefani’s first album since 2016’s This Is What the Truth Feels Like and her 2017 holiday album, You Make It Feel Like Christmas. This Is What the Truth Feels Like marked Stefani’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

It’s been an exciting year for Stefani, who reunited with her No Doubt bandmates bassist Tony Kanal, guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young for a Coachella performance in April after going on a permanent hiatus in 2013.

She also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last October. Shelton gave a sweet speech during the ceremony, telling the crowd, “Today, it’s nice to see her honored for her side project, which is being one of the biggest stars in the world. In my opinion, Gwen is the perfect person to receive a star on the Walk of Fame. From music, television and movies to fashion and beauty, she has risen to the top over and over again, with her unique style that has made the world fall in love with her. Not as much as me, though.”

#HipHopNews: Nicki Minaj Says She's Not A U.S. Citizen Despite Paying 'millions In Taxes
Nicki Minaj has revealed that she is still not a U.S. citizen, despite having paid millions in taxes over the years.
The Young Money rapper spoke about her nationality during a conversation with a fan on TikTok LIVE, and seemed to be irked by the fact that the U.S. government has yet to make her an honorary citizen considering her huge financial contributions to the country.
“I’m not a citizen of America. Isn’t that crazy?” she said, before clarifying that she is still a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago where she was born.

“I was born on a beautiful island called Trinidad and Tobago. But I’ve been in the States for many years. You would think that with the millions of dollars that I’ve paid in taxes to this country that I would have been given an honorary citizenship many, many, many thousands of years ago.”
Nicki Minaj previously opened up about her immigrant background and journey to the U.S. in a powerful message about immigrant rights in 2018.

Responding to migrant children being separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexican border under the Donald Trump administration, she wrote on Instagram: “I came to this country as an illegal immigrant at 5 years old. I can’t imagine the horror of being in a strange place and having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5.

“This is so scary to me. Please stop this. Can you try to imagine the terror & panic these kids feel right now? Not knowing if their parents are dead or alive, if they’ll ever see them again… ”
The “Super Freaky Girl” star has long been proud of her Trinidadian roots and repped her native country last year when she appeared on fellow Trinidadians Machel Montano and Destra’s “Shake The Place (Remix).”
“Trinidad my country, the greatest carnival of all time,” Nicki said at the beginning of the track before rapping: “I’m reppin’ that red, that white, that black/ I’m reppin’ my real flag.”

Nicki later performed the song at the annual Trinidad and Tobago Carnival and wrote on Instagram: “wish my grandmother was alive to see this. Wish daddy was alive to see this.”

#DIDDYCHRONICLES: Diddy Appeals Bail Denial By Promising Drug Testing, No Female Visitors

Diddy has filed an appeal in response to a judge denying his release and bail.
TMZ reports that Sean Combs and his attorney, Marc Agnifilo, filed legal documents issuing a slew of promises if the artist were to be released on bail. This includes being regularly drug tested and barring women, besides his family, from visiting him.

A portion of the letter stated that “family, property caretakers, and friends who are not considered co-conspirators” would be the only people allowed to visit his client if released. Their letter also insisted that “any person who enters the property should sign a visitor log,” which would be sent to the courts daily.

Combs also reasoned that he would have no contact with people considered potential witnesses in an explosive case that now includes a RICO charge.
The news arrives a day after the mogul entered a not-guilty plea to all of the charges lodged against him, including transportation to engage in prostitution and sex trafficking. Combs was set on meeting the initial $50,000,000 bail by putting up his Miami home and using his mother’s house as collateral. However, the court denied his request for bail on Tuesday (Sept. 17), and the mogul has been in jail since.

Federal prosecutors released a letter to the judge, explaining why Combs shouldn’t be released and how his actions in previous months influenced their decision. Prosecutors asserted that Diddy contacted potential victims and witnesses, asking them for “their friendship and support.” On other occasions, the prosecutors stated that Combs allegedly “gaslit” some of the victims into “believing false narratives.” They concluded that Diddy is too much of a flight risk and that he may “potentially flee,” per TMZ.

Rolling Stone reports that Agnifilo argued that his client wasn’t a threat and should be released on bail, asking the court to “trust” Puffy. But New York Magistrate Judge Robyn Tarnofsky wasn’t feeling Agnifilo’s advice to “trust” Diddy, citing Combs’ “anger issues” as a true threat.
“Your lawyer asked us to trust you—[I don’t think] you can trust yourself,” she told Combs. “Your lawyer can’t control you.”

The Jacksons Release Statement Honoring The Late Tito Jackson
Jackie, Marlon, Randy, and Jermaine Jackson have broken their silence following the death of their beloved brother, Tito Jackson.
The Jacksons took to social media on Tuesday (Sept. 17) to pay tribute to Tito, who passed away earlier this week at age 70.
“We are beyond devastated and still in total shock that our dear brother Tito is no longer with us. He was always selfless, kind, laid back, cool, and always humble. He was loved wherever he went. Tito was such a loving brother and father, he loved his family so much,” they wrote.
The men reflected on how Tito birthed the Jackson 5, adding, “Everything began for us when Tito broke that guitar string and The Jackson 5 were born. Just a few days ago we were onstage together in Munich, Germany. We could never have dreamt that would be our last time with him. We lived our lives on stage, and Tito was on stage till the end, spreading joy and love.”

The post concluded by expressing how Tito is now resting peacefully with “our brother Michael, our brother Brandon, and our father,” noting, “Our world will never be the same. He will always be forever in our hearts. We love you so much Tito.”
The tragic news of Tito’s unexpected death was confirmed by his sons, Taj, Taryll and TJ following a report from Entertainment Tonight.
Taj, himself, honored his father in a personal tribute where he reflected on the death of his uncle Michael, mother Delores, and father.

“I truly appreciate all the love and support I have received during this incredibly difficult time […] The truth is I am not okay, and I don’t know if I ever will be […] When my mom passed, I had to stay strong for my 2 younger brothers. When my uncle Michael died, I remained strong for my 3 cousins.
I don’t know how much emotional strength I have left… This photo is now my constant reminder that I have three angels watching over me,” wrote the singer-songwriter.

La Toya also issued a tribute amid Tito’s death as she shared footage from their last interaction together.
She described him as a “kind and gentle soul” who was “trying to capture this moment on his phone to pass it to someone.”
New details have emerged regarding Tito’s death and reports state that he suffered from a medical emergency before being transported to a local hospital in Gallup, New Mexico, where he was pronounced dead.

‘ShxtsNGigs’ hosts apologize for controversial remarks on dating Black women
In a recent episode of the popular podcast “ShxtsNGigs,” hosts James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu found themselves at the center of a social media firestorm after their past comments about dating Black women resurfaced online. The backlash was primarily directed at their laughter during a conversation that included what many perceived as racist jokes made by white comedian Andrew Schulz.

Context of the controversy
The controversy began when a clip from a July episode of the “Flagrant” podcast was shared widely across social media platforms, amassing over 7M views. In this two-hour episode, Duncan and Dawodu engaged in a discussion about the so-called “Black girlfriend effect,” which refers to the changes non-Black men reportedly undergo when they start dating Black women.

During the conversation, Schulz made a series of jokes that many found offensive. He remarked, “They shave their hair because they start losing it because they’re so stressed being around this Black girl complaining about s— all the f—ing time.” This comment was met with laughter from Duncan and Dawodu, which further fueled the outrage.

Public reaction
The public response was swift and harsh. Social media users expressed their disappointment and anger, with comments ranging from accusations of “coonery” to outright condemnation of the hosts for laughing along with Schulz and others. One user remarked, “The way they just let him walk all over us is wild, wow.”

Another stated, “This is disappointing and disgusting. I really loved these guys. They just sat there and nodded their heads.”
Such comments highlight the sensitivity surrounding discussions of race and the expectations placed on public figures to uphold a standard of respect and awareness.

Apology from the hosts

In light of the backlash, Duncan and Dawodu took to their platform to issue a public apology. During a recent episode of “ShxtsNGigs,” Duncan admitted, “We f—ed it, and we’re sorry.” He acknowledged that the jokes made during the episode were “incredibly inappropriate” and specifically called out the racist undertones of Schulz’s comments.

The hosts explained that they felt trapped in a “fight or flight” situation during the conversation and regretted not speaking up more forcefully against the inappropriate jokes. They mentioned that they had attempted to steer Schulz away from certain topics but ultimately failed to do so effectively.

The importance of accountability
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of accountability in media and entertainment. Public figures, especially those with significant platforms, have a responsibility to address issues of race and representation thoughtfully. The backlash against Duncan and Dawodu underscores the expectations that audiences have for their entertainers to be aware of the implications of their words and actions.

Moving forward
As the conversation around race continues to evolve, it is crucial for hosts like Duncan and Dawodu to learn from this experience. Their apology is a step in the right direction, but it also highlights the need for ongoing dialogue about race, respect, and the impact of humor in discussions about marginalized communities.

For those interested in hearing the full conversation that sparked this controversy, the episode is available on various platforms, including YouTube. It serves as a case study in the complexities of race relations and the responsibilities of public figures in navigating these sensitive topics.
The backlash against James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu illustrates the fine line that entertainers walk when discussing race and relationships. While humor can be a powerful tool for connection, it can also perpetuate harmful stereotypes if not handled with care. As audiences, it is essential to hold our public figures accountable and encourage them to engage in more thoughtful and respectful discourse.

Rapper/Actor Eve is NYU Steinhardt’s Scholar-in-Residence for 2024-25

Musician and actor Eve joins NYU Steinhardt as Scholar-in-Residence for 2024-25.
Grammy Award winner and Emmy-nominated actor Eve Jihan Cooper will share her experience as a trailblazing woman in hip-hop as the 2024-25 Scholar-in-Residence at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

The year-long residency kicks off September 21 with a welcoming event. It will be followed by a series of meetings, classroom visits, and intimate conversations with students and faculty about Eve’s historic career and the evolving music industry.

“We are thrilled to be hosting Eve as our 2024-25 Scholar in Residence,” says Jack H. Knott, the Gale and Ira Drukier Dean of NYU Steinhardt. “She will share the expertise she's gained as an award-winning artist in music, film, and television, as well as a philanthropist working with young people in the arts. I know our students and faculty will learn from her engagement and support of our efforts to advance equity, belonging, and innovation.”

Eve has built a successful career in entertainment over more than two decades. In 1999, her debut studio album, Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady, reached the top of the Billboard 200, making her only the third female rapper to achieve that position. She subsequently released three additional albums, including 2002’s Scorpion, which was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Rap Album. She won the Best Rap/Sung Collaboration Grammy Award that year for Let Me Blow Ya Mind, a duet with Gwen Stefani from that record.
In addition to her music, Eve has starred in 15 movies and television series, including the critically-acclaimed Queens, starred and co-executive producer her own, self-titled sit-com, and served as co-host of the CBS daytime talk show, The Talk. A native of Philadelphia, Eve is also a mother and philanthropist, with a focus on supporting women and girls in education and the arts.

Eve’s memoir, Who’s that Girl?, written with journalist and NYU adjunct professor Kathy Iandoli, will be released this month.
The residency build’s on Steinhardt’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, held last year.

“I want people to get an understanding of who I am as a person outside of music,” Eve says. “I am looking forward to getting to know the community, and meeting in intimate settings to give students a chance to ask me anything they want to ask.”

Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, And Jelly Roll Will Kick Off The First Month Of ‘SNL’ Musical Guests This Fall
The good folks at 30 Rockefeller Plaza have revealed the first month of lineups for the upcoming 50th fall season of Saturday Night Live.
The kickoff show on September 28 will be hosted 2024 Emmy Award winner Jean Smart with musical guest Jelly Roll, promoting the upcoming release of his ninth studio album, Beautifully Broken.

October 5 will be hosted by stand-up comic Nate Bargatze, who is undoubtedly less surprised to be invited this time around, while Coldplay will handle the music duties.
Stevie Nicks will be the musical guest on October 12, but you can probably expect a little harmonizing from guest host Ariana Grande, who’ll be promoting her film adaptation of Wicked.

On October 19, Michael Keaton has hosting duties, fresh off the box office success of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (and the Hollywood Star ceremony for Batman, which you just KNOW he’ll attend, probably in character). Billie Eilish will continue the promotion of her new album, Hit Me Hard And Soft.

And finally, as mismatched and beloved a pair as you can imagine will guest on November 2, with Chappell Roan making another concession in her fight against fame, and John Mulaney allegedly edging further into his return to the spotlight — although he seems mystified by the news.
Meanwhile, SNL will have a slightly updated cast, including the dismissal of breakout star Chloe Troast, which Uproxx’s own Josh Kurp called a “big mistake” for the show’s 50th season.

Zach Bryan Deactivates X Account Following Backlash Over Taylor Swift Tweet
Zach Bryan chose to mess with the wrong fanbase. The country music star has deactivated his X account (formerly known as Twitter) after coming under fire for his tweets which dissed Taylor Swift and her boyfriend Travis Kelce.
On Tuesday, September 18, he played with fire as he tweeted, "eagles > chiefs," followed by, "Kanye > Taylor." He then concluded the tweet by asking his followers, "who's with me."
Needless to say, many disagreed with Zach. Swifties swiftly retaliated, given his message was a twofold offense against both Taylor and her boyfriend, who is the Kansas City Chiefs tight end. They wrote back, "Tyler Childers > Zach Bryan" and "Literally anyone else > Zach Bryan."

The "Something in the Orange" hitmaker attempted to do damage control, claiming in another tweet, "guys I love Taylor, was listening to TTPD last night and thank you aimee came on and I drunkenly tweeted that about Kanye. If anyone took it serious please know I love both artists a lot and think we’re in a really beautiful time of music."

However, the backlash proved to be too much to handle as Zach later deactivated his account. That did not stop Swifties from mocking the 28-year-old singer/songwriter as someone commented on Pop Crave's post about his tweet, "He knew not to mess with the Swifties." Another chimed in, "got all brave just to wimp out and deactivate."

Zach previously caught heat for apparently criticizing those who are messing music with politics. "anyone willing to put politics above music don't get the point of listening to music," he tweeted last week. After sparking debate with the said tweet, he also deactivated his X account before returning.
Meanwhile, over on his Instagram account, Zach made it be known that he's been into Kanye West's songs lately. On his Stories, he featured four older songs by Ye, including "Good Life" featuring T-Pain from 2007's "Graduation" and "I Thought About Killing You", "All Mine" as well as "Ghost Town" featuring PARTYNEXTDOOR from 2018's "Ye".

Liza Colon-Zayas Hits Campaign Trail For Harris And Walz, Encourages Latino Vote

Following her historic Emmy win as the first Latina actress to receive the award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, Liza Colon-Zayas is now lending her support to the campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Colon-Zayas, who plays Tina Marrero in FX's "The Bear", will join actor Anthony Ramos at a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 21, to encourage Latino voters to get to the polls.

The Harris-Walz campaign announced increased efforts to reach Latino voters during Hispanic Heritage Month, including a $3 million investment in Spanish-language radio and community events in key battleground states.
In her Emmy acceptance speech, Colon-Zayas urged Latinos to vote for their rights. "To all the Latinas who would be looking at me," she said, "keep believing and vote. Vote for your rights."

Colon-Zayas and Ramos are not new to promoting the Latino vote. Ramos previously encouraged people to vote through social media and interviews, while Walz has worked to expand protections for undocumented immigrants in Minnesota.
Pennsylvania has a large Latino population that could potentially swing the election. Despite this, the community often feels politically abandoned. The Lehigh Valley rally aims to address this issue and mobilize Latino voters.

The rally will take place on the same day that JD Vance, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, is scheduled to speak in Leesport, Pennsylvania. One day later, Donald Trump is expected to appear at a rally in Bucks County.

Jason Momoa Accused Of Creating Toxic Work Environment On 'Minecraft Movie' Set
Jason Momoa was hit with mistreatment allegations. YouTube streamer Valkyrae accused the "Aquaman" star of mistreating the crew on the set of his upcoming film "A Minecraft Movie".
During her appearance on a Hot Ones-inspired segment opposite fellow YouTuber JasonTheWeen, Valkyrae was asked about her worst experience working with a celebrity. "So, 'Minecraft Movie' - I have a cameo in the Minecraft movie that's coming out - I would have to say Jason Momoa," she replied to the question.

According to the 32-year-old Internet personality, the 45-year-old actor "mistreated some of the crew" during production of the forthcoming flick, in which he plays Garett "The Garbage Man" Garrison. "It was pretty disappointing," she added.
"It was after a very intense scene - and it was a very emotional scene - so maybe he was still in character, I don't know. I was just surprised about how he treated some of the crew," Valkyrae continued.

She further recalled the "Game of Thrones" alum being "really mad at them that they weren't doing something right in setting up the shot and stuff," adding the Hollywood hunk "was just angry, really mad, and yelling."

"I was like, 'Man, this is not a good work environment, I would not be happy working under these conditions.' I would have to say that was the worst celebrity thing I've seen," she concluded.
Upon catching wind of Valkyrae's account, some Internet users defended Jason. Giving the actor the benefit of the doubt, one said, "Valkyrae should understand at times one can have a bad day in the office. You can't [condemn] or pass judgement based on that day."

Another echoed, "Have we seen any of his staff or crew member coming up complaining of mistreatment? Let's be factual at times…" Someone else noted, "She saw one moment of frustration and called it a bad working environment."

Some others blasted Valkyrae for publicly condemning a big star when she only started her acting career. "She's barely in the movie industry and she's already talking drama with one of the biggest stars ... they definitely not calling her back to a set after this," a critic opined.
Jason, meanwhile, has yet to comment on the toxic work environment accusations.

Actor Rupert Everett secretly married his long-time partner Henrique!

The gay best friend of My Best Friend's Wedding is now actually married! Rupert Everett, the 65-year-old British actor best known for starring in films like My Best Friend's Wedding, An Ideal Man, and My Policeman, recently revealed that he got secretly married to his long-time partner — a Brazilian accountant called Henrique.
Everett told Tatler that this secret, low-key wedding took place at the Camden Town Hall and was followed by lunch at the actor's favorite restaurant. "I have always hated weddings, although I do love funerals," Everett explained. "But when you get older… I have seen so many problems that gay couples face, so it's really more about forward-thinking, as we have been together for a long time now."

The Serpent Queen actor added, "I don't know how long I'm going to last. Well, being tall, I've never seen a 95-year-old 6ft 5in person. You just never know what's going to happen."
"The great thing about getting older is that you realize you don't have to strain every nerve to the point of hemorrhoids to be relevant," the actor concluded in the Tatler interview.

Back in 2012, Everett — like some other people in the LGBTQ+ community — had a different point of view when it came to same-sex marriage. The actor famously shared the following statement during an interview with The Guardian:

"Why do queens want to go and get married in churches? Obviously this crusty old pathetic, Anglican church — the most joke-ish church of all jokey churches — of course they don't want to have queens getting married. It's kind of understandable that they don't; they're crusty, old, calcified freaks. But why do we want to get married in churches? I don't understand that, myself, personally."

Everett went on in that 2012 interview, "I loathe heterosexual weddings; I would never go to a wedding in my life. I loathe the flowers, I loathe the f*cking wedding dress, the little bridal tiara. It's grotesque. It's just hideous. The wedding cake, the party, the champagne, the inevitable divorce two years later. It's just a waste of time in the heterosexual world. And in the homosexual world, I find it personally beyond tragic that we want to ape this institution that is so clearly a disaster."
Time has allowed Everett to rethink that perspective and understand that all weddings and marriages can take different forms that work for each couple — which really resonates with most queer couples that tie the knot.

Congratulations are in order to Rupert Everett and his hubby, Henrique!

Shaquille O’Neal Goes Viral in Photo with Young Girlfriend
*Shaquille O’Neal recently went viral after his alleged girlfriend, Maria, shared a photo of them together on Instagram.
Maria posted a selfie with Shaq standing behind her and although his face is not visible, fans quickly deduced that the large man in the photo is the NBA star. Shaq has a history of dating younger women, and Maria looks childlike in the photo with Shaq (see below).

In a separate post, Maria told her followers not to “believe everything you see.” In the comments, one fan wrote, “Why you playing victim on your ig story tho? Just because Shaq was hanging out with you doesn’t mean he wanted to be posted/outed. You had no respect for his privacy. You fumbled him! He’s a Pisces.. so he’s done forever after what you did! Learn from this..

Another person added, “Why you playing victim on your ig story tho? Just because Shaq was hanging out with you doesn’t mean he wanted to be posted/outed. You had no respect for his privacy. You fumbled him! He’s a Pisces.. so he’s done forever after what you did! Learn from this..”

SandraRose.com reports that Maria recently moved from Philadelphia to Atlanta, where Shaq resides but his fans are criticizing her on social media for “outing” him on her IG account.
Shaq’s past relationships include Karrine Steffans, Laticia Rolle, and he was previously married to Shaunie Nelson from 2002 to 2009.

During a recent appearace on The Big Podcast with Shaq, the retired athlete admitted that his “dumbass mistakes” cost him his family.  Shaq has four children with his ex-wife Shaunie and two with his ex-girlfriend Arnetta.
“I made a lot of dumba** mistakes to where I lost my family and I didn’t have anybody,” he said on the podcast. “That’s not the case for you. So enjoy your beautiful wife, enjoy your beautiful kids, and never dwell on what we had. What we had is what we got, you got the ring, and people know who you are. Enjoy it.

TikTok Back In Federal Court Fighting Law That Might Ban Popular Platform In America
If you love TikTok and all that comes with it, have fun now because it might not last too much longer. The U.S. government clashed with the popular platform’s lawyers in federal court over a law that could ban the app by mid-January. TikTok is arguing the measure is unconstitutional and the Justice Department claiming it is necessary to eliminate a national security risk.
The legal battle took place before a panel of three judges at a federal appeals court in Washington.

Andrew Pincus, representing TikTok, argued, “The law before this court is unprecedented and its effect would be staggering,” suggesting that it would impose speech limitations based on hypothetical future risks. Additionally, an attorney for content creators who joined the challenge compared the law to banning Americans from publishing on foreign-owned media outlets.

Get this, the law was signed by President Joe Biden in April, comes after years of concern in Washington about TikTok’s ties to China. The U.S. government make a serious claim that TikTok collects sensitive user data that could be accessed by the Chinese government and that the app’s proprietary algorithm could be manipulated to shape content.

What’s more, Daniel Tenny, an attorney for the Justice Department, argued, “The problem is that same data is extremely valuable to a foreign adversary trying to compromise the security of the United States.”

Pincus contended that Congress should have opted for transparency regarding potential propaganda rather than forcing a divestiture or ban.
Interestingly, the judges also pressed the Justice Department on First Amendment concerns. Judge Sri Srinivasan noted that government efforts to curb content manipulation raise alarms regarding free speech. Tenny responded that the law does not directly target TikTok users or creators, suggesting any impact on them would be indirect.

Anyway, TikTok maintains that it does not share U.S. user data with the Chinese government and that divestment is not a feasible option. The company argues that even if divestment were possible, TikTok would lose the technology that powers the app, reducing it to “a shell of its former self.”

TikTok here or gone, it’s part of a bigger construct with the impact of social media in our lives. And that is here to stay.

Coca-Cola and Bacardi Team Up to Launch Rum and Coke Cocktail in a Can

Coca-Cola and Bacardi are linking up to introduce a ready-to-drink (RTD) version of one of the world’s most iconic cocktails: rum and Coke. This pre-mixed beverage will hit select European and Mexican markets in 2025, offering a convenient way to enjoy the classic drink on the go.
For those who love the simplicity of a rum and Coke but prefer the ease of a canned cocktail, this partnership brings two well-known brands together for the first time in a long time. The combination of BACARDÍ’s smooth rum and Coca-Cola’s timeless flavor has been a bar staple for decades—dating back to the invention of the Cuba Libre in Havana over 120 years ago.

In a joint statement, executives from both companies expressed excitement about the release. Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey said the move helps the company expand into the growing RTD alcohol market, while Bacardi’s CEO Mahesh Madhavan highlighted the convenience and reach this collaboration brings to fans of the cocktail.

The canned cocktail will have an alcohol content of around 5%, but this may vary depending on the market. The packaging will feature the familiar logos of both brands, and the product will include clear messaging that it’s intended for consumers of legal drinking age.

With the rise of ready-to-drink cocktails, this new option is likely to appeal to those looking for a no-fuss way to enjoy a favorite drink—whether at home, at a picnic, or on the go

Laverne Cox Talks Pretty Privilege And 'UGLIES' Role She Defends Her Character’s Cosmetic Surgery Mandate, ‘It’s A Reflection Of What’s Going On In The World Right Now’

Friday, September 13, Netflix released their new film UGLIES and BOSSIP got the scoop directly from the cast.
The film stars Joey King, Chase Stokes, Keith Powers, Brianne Tju, and Laverne Cox. Based on Scott Westerfield’s novel of the same name, UGLIES introduces audiences to a futuristic world that imposes a cosmetic surgery at 16. The story centers around a young woman named Tally (Joey King) who is eager for her turn to receive her surgery and join the rest of society. But when a friend runs away, Tally embarks on a journey to save her that upends everything she thought she wanted.

The folks at BOSSIP spoke to Laverne Cox spoke about her role in UGLIES, Dr. Cable, who some might say is the villain of the project. It turns out that Cox disagrees.

“I think at the end of the day she wants to create a perfect society where everyone is equal, where no one is discriminated against because of the way they look,” Cox told BOSSIP. “Obviously her methods have some ethical issues but I don’t think I could play a character if I didn’t feel like what she was doing — if I don’t feel justified in it. Ultimately I [Dr. Cable] want power and control for sure and the fact that she’s chosen, of all the things that she could do, to create an equal society. It’s that she’s chosen beauty, that she’s chosen pretty and constructed this society around uglies, pretties, mid pretties, it speaks to the power of beauty. I think in our in our culture that consciously or unconsciously we make decisions about people based on how they look. Pretty privilege is real. There’s studies that show prettier people make more money, have more opportunities it’s just a real thing. So she’s just kind of acknowledging the world the way it is and finding a way to make it more equal. Obviously there is a resistance to that. There’s the smoke and she has to handle that and she goes about doing that by any means necessary.”

“In the book, Scott says she has these wolf eyes, so I thought a lot about wolves and how they are both predatory but very protective of their their cubs. We love doing animal work as an actor. Dangerous misinformation? I hadn’t thought about it that way. There is propaganda for sure. Yeah absolutely. That’s her world, that’s the world she’s created and is it misinformation? I think it could certainly be looked at that way but there’s a whole system in place that she’s created that places emphasis on love is that wrong? A homogenized society? Probably. Laverne would say ‘definitely,’ but from Dr. Cable’s perspective it’s about creating an equal society right? So in her mind and I’m the character so obviously it’s problematic to like make everyone the same and sort of control their minds in the process, that’s a deep problem, but it also is a reflection of what’s going on in the world right now. We have so much misinformation, so much emphasis on filters and beauty. People are literally taking their face-app’d versions of themselves to plastic surgeons, instead of taking a picture of a celebrity, they’re taking a picture of their filtered self in to plastic surgeons. So this is right now. I mean we’re kind of living that right now.”

Since UGLIES is based on a novel, we also asked Cox about the books that helped shape her when she was a young adult and she named many of the classics that she was taught in her freshman year of high school, Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitgerald and Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman as well as short stories by Salinger.

What books from young adulthood helped shape the person who you’ve become?
