#MAGFAB: Zac Efron for Variety - December 2023!
When Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler” came out in 2008, Zac Efron was two movies deep into the Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” franchise, in which he played singing, dancing basketball phenom Troy Bolton. He’d been the swoony romantic lead in the movie musical “Hairspray,” opposite John Travolta and Michelle Pfeiffer, was shortly to play opposite Matthew Perry in “17 Again,” and had pulled his T-shirt up on the cover of Rolling Stone under the headline “The New American Heartthrob.” At 21, Efron might have seemed like the kind of actor who was as likely to watch footage of the moon landing and decide to become an astronaut as he was to take inspiration from Mickey Rourke’s grizzled, broken-down performance.
And yet. “That film impacted me in a really specific way,” he recalls over lunch in Los Angeles. “I was watching it with my dad, and I remember looking at him in that moment, saying, ‘That’s what I want to do. That’s where my heart is.
It was easier for Efron to imagine himself there than for his parents — an electrical engineer and an administrative assistant comfortably raising the new American heartthrob — to understand his passion. “It’s got to be weird,” Efron goes on, “watching your child go through the more challenging route. I know that at times they had to be thinking, ‘He shouldn’t even do this stuff.’”
Efron had, to that point, made it through the maelstrom of Disney stardom, maintaining an image of squeaky-clean ambition even as his peers, from Shia LaBeouf to Lindsay Lohan, stumbled in the glare of a hot spotlight. Lanky and laconic, Efron was, above all, low-key — so much so that the tabloid coverage, inevitable for a star of his magnitude, focused primarily on his relationship with “High School Musical” co-star Vanessa Hudgens. (The pair confirmed their breakup in 2010.) The pressures of Hollywood took their toll eventually — Efron entered rehab for substance abuse in 2013, at age 25 — but his early days are remembered first for Troy Bolton, a tweenage dream of the ultimate nice guy.
The challenging journey Efron has taken to escape that character and image has lasted 15 years. That time has held a fair amount of movies, and a fair amount of living — but he got there. In “The Iron Claw,” the new film by Sean Durkin, Efron delivers a performance whose ambition will surprise you. It’s a movie-star turn as a character whose tragedy is that he can’t use charisma to bypass his problems. Durkin compares Efron to Robert De Niro in “The Deer Hunter,” calling him a “quiet leader”; and to Burt Lancaster in “The Swimmer,” “because he’s in a Speedo the whole time.”
He’s kidding, kind of — but Efron’s physicality is central to this work. With his hair cut into a Prince Valiant bowl cut, Efron has transformed himself into a Marvel-esque specimen. He’s playing Kevin Von Erich, a pro wrestler living through the deaths of each of his brothers in sequence. The real-life Von Erich was one of a family of grapplers on the 1980s circuit who were stalked by a series of fatal mishaps; on-screen, their father, played by Holt McCallany, forces them forward with a grim refusal to acknowledge their feelings, even as they mourn brother after brother. Men, they’re told, don’t cry — and so all of those feelings are converted into athleticism, or bottled away until they burst. Through it all, Efron battles with ever-increasing savagery in the ring, trying desperately to keep a lid on his feelings. His body is equipped to fight and to win; it also is visual evidence of the kind of choking masculinity Kevin forces himself to inhabit
On set, Efron was deep in character but still supportive — the kind of empathetic collaborator that the Von Erich brothers weren’t allowed to be.
“Getting into this, I wondered if there would be this quiet competition between us men, mimicking the relationship between these brothers,” co-star Jeremy Allen White says. “But Zac would push us to do better scene work and was a cheerleader in a way that I didn’t really expect. He was consistently patting us on the back and picking us up.”
Efron’s performance in “The Iron Claw” stands as proof that some golden boys have the potential to melt themselves down and reshape themselves into something new. In this small-scale, low-budget indie, Efron, at 36, is unambiguously and finally all grown up. And he’s playing a mix of emotions, and an attempted restraint over all of them, that suggests a potent power behind the usual charm. “The Iron Claw” is an unexpected delivery system for Efron’s ambition. But the actor that this star wanted to be all along has arrived.

#RHOA #TWIRL: Kenya Moore’s Ex-Husband Marc Daly Decides To Let Daughter Brooklyn Film ‘RHOA’ In Divorce Decree
Lights, Camera, Brooklyn! Kenya Moore’s Ex-Husband Marc Daly Allows Daughter Film ‘RHOA’ In Divorce Decree. According to Radar Online, the Soco BK owner will stop fighting the four-year-old’s appearance in future episodes of the reality franchise.
Daly’s divorce filing read: “Mother shall have final authority to decide whether to include the minor child on the Bravo show or for any other economic opportunities for Mother; however, Mother shall be required to discuss the opportunity with Father. Mother shall notify Father of any opportunity where the minor child will appear on camera and shall advise Father of the content of the appearance.”
In addition, Daly requested permission to have his daughter appear on HIS television shows. Daly’s change of heart seemingly came from realizing he could benefit from a televised family affair with his bambina.
The nose ring-wearing papa requested that “final authority to decide whether to include the minor child on a television show or for any other economic opportunities for Father.”
Daly proposed to “discuss the opportunity with [Kenya] and would notify [her] of any opportunity where the minor child will appear on camera and shall advise [Kenya] of the content of the appearance.”
The 52-year-old previously stated she was aware of the restaurateur’s plans to join a reality show production.
Marc initially objected to Brooklyn appearing on the drama-filled program as he felt it was inappropriate. Kenya contended her job included showing her life, which included rearing her baby girl.
In part of the motion Daly filed in July, he took issue with his daughter being present in a hotel room where Marlo Hampton attempted to kick the door in. Brooklyn was sleeping at the time. Kenya says she had no idea the Tomfoolery took place.
A judge ultimately sided with Kenya, awarding her primary care and allowance for Brooklyn to appear on the RHOA.
The court elected official stated he was “not convinced, and no evidence has been shown, that” Kenya would place Brooklyn in “any environment that might not be in the minor child’s best interest, or may in any way be considered dangerous or inappropriate.”
As previously reported, the beauty pageant titleholder was elated that litigation concluded and she could move forward with her life.
“After more than three years of litigation, I have finally been granted a divorce,” Kenya joyfully stated. “I want to thank everyone who prayed for and uplifted me when I needed it the most.”
She continued, “I’m excited for this next chapter in my life and being the best mom I can be for my daughter, Brooklyn.”
And your girl isn’t giving up on love.” As a hopeless romantic, I still believe my forever person exists and know I’ll have my happily ever after ending after all,” she said.
Kenya and Marc parted ways in 2019. The next year the television personality requested primary physical custody of their daughter. Marc agreed with the physical custody request but demanded joint legal custody.
Miss Moore filed for divorce in May 2021 and requested child support from the entrepreneur. She was met with a demand for an interest in the Georgia property they resided in during their marriage. The home was purchased by Kenya before she wed Daly.
Ultimately, Kenya gets to keep her casa.
Wishing the former Miss USA luck as she twirls into her new life with baby Brook by her side.

#HipHopNews: Kanye West And Ty Dolla Sign's 'Vultures' Set To Drop December 2023
After many fans were expecting Vultures to drop this past Friday (Dec. 15), a Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign representative claimed that their long-awaited LP will be out on Dec. 31 via XXL. The album is now up for pre-order on iTunes and will be accompanied by another rave event in Saudi Arabia before the release.
West made waves across social media following a lengthy rant discussing Nicki Minaj, Drake, JAY-Z, Michael Rubin, Tory Lanez, Adidas and much more. Many fans were perplexed after a few of the declarations made by the “Good Life” emcee.
During the passionate speech, which was made available via social media influencer YesJulz, Ye proclaimed, “A lot of people had things to say about my Jewish comments, but no one had s**t to say when I was praying to see my kids…” Before finishing the statement, he asked someone near him, “Who is my n**ga who just got locked up for the Megan Thee Stallion s**t?” Once the room said Tory Lanez, he stated, “We were praying on the phone together during that time.”
He followed that comment up by stating, “N**gas be hanging ’round these n**gas just for the money on some Mike Rubin s**t. I would slap the s**t out of Michael Rubin [if] I [saw] that n**ga.” Meek Mill seemingly teased the “rap beef” in a new picture with Rubin on Instagram.
The post was captioned, “Can you run fast in these [Travis Scott] sneaks with all this rap beef [Michael Rubin]? [Laugh out loud].” Rubin commented on the post, claiming, “I’m a hustler, not a fighter!”
West recently reconnected with his frequent collaborator and friend, Kid Cudi. The pair was seen conversing and hugging shortly after. The affair occurred in Las Vegas, where a new song featuring Cudi’s vocals was previewed. The record is speculatively titled “Gun To My Head.”
This would be their first release since Cudi shared on Twitter how he was no longer cool with West. In April 2022, he announced, “I am not cool [with] that man. He’s not my friend, and I only cleared the song for Pusha ’cause that’s my guy. This is the last song you will hear me on [with] Kanye.”

Wayne Brady Says Life Is 'Too Short To Live In The Dark' After Coming Out As Pansexual!
Wayne Brady thinks it's "never too late to take hold of your story." The 51-year-old star announces he's pansexual in August, and Wayne has subsequently been inundated with messages from people who are going through similar experiences.
"I've gotten so many DMs, emails and texts from people who, at a midpoint in their life, want to express themselves, whether it's changing their work or coming out. It's never too late to take hold of your story … for teenagers, young adults, theatre students and young black men who question the idea of masculinity, and what it all means," he told Yahoo Entertainment.
Wayne hopes that he's inspired others to "take their own story in their own hands." He added, "Past a certain point, life becomes too short to live in the dark all the time. To have people say, 'Hey, you inspire me, not just on stage, but you inspire me to live my truth,' has been the best part."
Earlier this year, Wayne announced that he's pansexual, meaning he's attracted to people regardless of their sex or gender. Speaking to PEOPLE, Wayne explained, "In doing my research, both with myself and just with the world, I couldn't say if I was bisexual, because I had to really see what that was, especially because I really have not gotten a chance to act on anything."
"So, I came to pansexual because - and I know that I'm completely messing up the dictionary meaning - but to me, pan means being able to be attracted to anyone who identifies as gay, straight, bi, transsexual or non-binary. Being able to be attracted across the board."
"And, I think, at least for me for right now, that is the proper place. I took pan to mean that not only can I be attracted to any of these people or types physically, but I could be attracted to the person that is there."

Michael B. Jordan’s L.A. Car Accident Reportedly Under Investigation After Crash Video Goes Viral
Michael B. Jordan’s recent Los Angeles car crash is reportedly under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department after a video of the accident went viral.
“Michael B. Jordan crashing out in Hollywood racing another Ferrari,” one Instagram caption claimed. In the video, which was posted on Wednesday, December 13, Jordan’s blue Ferrari can be seen driving alongside a red Ferrari before the actor seemingly lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a parked car.
According to a Friday, December 15, report from TMZ, the LAPD is looking to prove that Jordan, 36, “was behind the wheel of the racing Ferrari.” If law enforcement finds “criminal culpability” in their investigation, they can “forward the case to prosecutors for possible charges,” TMZ’s report revealed.
Jordan was behind the wheel of his Ferrari on December 3 when he crashed into a parked Kia, the LAPD referred to the incident as a “traffic collision of a vehicle into a parked [car],” in a statement at the time, noting there were no signs of foul play or evidence of a DUI.
The LAPD also confirmed that no arrests were made at the scene, noting that Jordan and the Kia driver did exchange information. Photos from the accident showed that the right fender and one tire had been ripped off Jordan’s car.
The video of the accident, originally shared on Wednesday, has since been reposted across various social media platforms. Jordan, for his part, has yet to speak publicly about the incident.
Tenshi Angel, the driver of the red vehicle in the video, spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the incident on Friday, noting that he was "just vibing out" when the blue Ferrari came up on the side of his vehicle.
"We was just kind of, like, pacing. This was before the recording there was, like, two blocks away," Angel recalled. "We were just cruising. And then — I think it was like the next block, like halfway — we were revving the engines a little bit, then once we got to the next block that was when we was like, 'Oh.' Honk[ed] three times. I took off, and that's what happened."
Angel went on to say that they were “revving engines” but not “going fast at all.” He noted that the cars “weren't exactly side by side” when the accident happened.
“He was a little bit behind me, maybe I want to say like a foot," Angel explained. "When you're in those types of cars ... sometimes it's hard to see."
Angel remembered “picking up speed” in his car before noticing that the other Ferrari “wasn’t there anymore.” He added, “Then I slowed down."
If he had known that Jordan had crashed, Angel said he would have “stopped to help him.” He added, "I thought he turned the corner or something and maybe didn't want to go. I just kept going."
Mayim Bialik is out as host of 'Jeopardy!' now Ken Jennings to stay in his role as permanent host
Jeopardy! is making a major change. Mayim Bialik will no longer host the quiz show, the The Big Bang Theory alum shared the news on her Instagram Friday.
It was just last summer that Bialik was named the long-running game show’s permanent co-host, opposite Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings. In her new post, Bialik wrote that she was informed by studio Sony that she would “no longer be hosting the syndicated version” of the show. She did not give a reason for her exit.
“I am incredibly honored to have been nominated for a primetime Emmy for hosting this year and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the Jeopardy! family,” the Blossom star wrote. “For all of you who have supported me through this incredible journey and to the fans, contestants, writers, staff and crew of America's Favorite Quiz Show, thank you."
Jennings will continue with his hosting duties, Sony confirmed in a statement to Entertainment Weekly shortly after the news of Bialik’s exit broke.
"We made the decision to have one host for the syndicated show next season to maintain continuity for our viewers, and Ken Jennings will be the sole host for syndicated Jeopardy!," the spokesperson for the studio said. "We are truly grateful for all of Mayim's contributions to Jeopardy!, and we hope to continue to work with her on primetime specials."
Bialik stepped into her Jeopardy! role following the 2020 death of longtime host Alex Trebek. In the immediate aftermath of Trebek’s death, the quiz show had a rotating cast of hosts, including Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Reading Rainbow star LeVar Burton.
In 2021, it was announced that Bialik and executive producer Mike Richards would share hosting duties; however, just one week into filming, Richards stepped down after offensive remarks he made on a podcast resurfaced. Jennings, who won more than $4 million on the show, took his place following the controversy.

A Senate staffer is out of a job after the publication of a video appearing to show two men having sex in a Senate hearing room.
Police are “looking into” the video, which was obtained and published by the Daily Caller.
CNN has not independently obtained the video nor confirmed the identity of those purportedly involved.
The Daily Caller reported the staffer worked for Democratic Sen. Ben Cardin’s office. CNN reached out to Cardin’s office and was directed to a statement posted by Aidan Maese-Czeropski on LinkedIn.
In the statement, Maese-Czeropski said, in part, “This has been a difficult time for me, as I have been attacked for who I love to pursue a political agenda. While some of my actions in the past have shown poor judgement, I love my job and would never disrespect my workplace.
“I will be exploring what legal options are available to me in these matters,” Maese-Czeropski wrote.
Cardin’s office later released a statement announcing that Maese-Czeropski is “no longer employed by the U.S. Senate.”
US Capitol Police, said it “cannot confirm details regarding the people in the video” but “are aware and looking into this.” CNN also reached out to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s office but has not heard back.
#BoxOfficeNews: ‘Wonka’ Wins Golden Ticket to the Top of the Global Box Office
Warner Bros.' Wonka has already recouped its $125 million production budget thanks to a successful overseas release and strong domestic debut.
Timothée Chalamet's performance in Wonka has received praise from critics, contributing to the film's positive reviews and strong audience response.
The movie is a prequel to Roald Dahl’s iconic book, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
Thanks to an early roll-out overseas and a solid stateside debut this weekend, Warner Bros.’ Wonka has already recovered its reported production budget of $125 million. Directed by Paul King, beloved for having helmed the two Paddington films, and starring everybody’s favorite new heartthrob Timothée Chalamet, Wonka serves as a prequel to Roald Dahl’s massively popular book, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," which has twice been adapted for the big screen.
Wonka opened to $39 million domestically this weekend, and has now made $112 million from international territories, for an early global haul of $151 million. The movie grossed over $40 million in select overseas markets last weekend, with the lion’s share of the gross (more than $11 million) coming from the U.K. Wonka is currently playing in 78 territories worldwide, and has done especially well in Mexico, Spain and Germany. Produced by David Heyman (Harry Potter franchise), the film is expected to spawn a new franchise for Dune star Chalamet.
Wonka’s $39 million domestic debut marks the second-best start for the actor, behind Dune’s $41 million opening in 2021. This could have been a bigger year for him, had Dune: Part Two not been delayed because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Wonka is also the first film to receive a proper promotional push since the strike ended, with Chalamet at the front-and-center of the campaign.
Oprah Winfrey portrait revealed at National Portrait Gallery
Oprah Winfrey was honored with a portrait at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery on Wednesday, joining the ranks of the Obamas, Harriet Tubman and George Washington.
The media mogul famously hosted "The Oprah Winfrey Show" out of Chicago for 25 years. And her portrait, which shows her in a purple gown at her California home, was painted by Chicago-based artist Shawn Michael, who grew up watching the show, according to the gallery.
There are several other symbolic elements of the portrait. The purple gown is meant to symbolize "The Color Purple," the 1982 film she starred in based on Alice Walker's novel by the same name. She is also surrounded by 12 oak trees – symbolizing the 12 disciples integral in her faith.
As a talk show host, Oprah interviewed a whopping 37,000 people and became a household name. She went on to create her own television network, OWN, and has continued to nab high-profile interviews, including one with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that aired on CBS in 2021.
One of her most recent projects is producing a musical adaptation of "The Color Purple." She said at the unveiling ceremony for the portrait that she chose to wear purple in the portrait because it has been "seminal" in her life.
As the curtain was drawn on the painting, Oprah exclaimed, "Spectacular. Great job," according to the Associated Press.
National Portrait Gallery Director Kim Sajet spoke at the unveiling of the portrait, which will be on display from now until Oct. 20, 2024, according to the gallery
"Through her rise to fame as host and producer of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show,' Oprah demonstrated an unparalleled ability to connect with people and inspire them to become the best versions of themselves," Sajet said. "Her vision and spirit deserve recognition in the nation's Portrait Gallery, and we are delighted to celebrate her with this commissioned portrait by Shawn Michael Warren, who has reflected her warmth and compassion in this painting."
The gallery has commissioned 35 portraits of living people who have shaped American culture since its first one in 1994 – a portrait of George H.W. Bush by Ronald Sherr. Since then, several presidents and first ladies have been depicted in portraits after their terms ended, including other notable Americans such as Jeff Bezos, Ava DuVernay, Bill and Melinda Gates and Colin Powell.

‘Family Matters’ Actor Darius McCrary Arrested Again Over Unpaid Child Support Payments
Darius McCrary has been detained for a second time over failure to make child support payments.
Last month, the actor famous for playing Eddie Winslow on the ’90s popular show “Family Matters” was arrested for not making his child support payments, as reported by TMZ on Saturday. On November 27th, McCrary was reportedly arrested on a felony charge for not paying child support, with a debt amounting to $52,788.04 as of March 12, 2019. The actor pleaded not guilty and was required to post a bond of $13,197.01.
The father of three reportedly remains incarcerated and is under GPS monitoring. Additionally, a month before his arrest for child support, McCrary was also detained in Redondo Beach, California, on October 25th.
McCrary’s initial arrest for not keeping up with child support payments dates back to 2015. In 2017, he informed a judge that he wasn’t earning any income, claiming he had only made $500 that year and owed $90,000 to the IRS. Less than a year later, he faced accusations of dislocating his then-2-year-old daughter’s arm, allegations he denied, claiming his ex-wife Tammy Brawner fabricated the story. Salmonella is a bacterial strain found in various sources such as animal products, fruits, vegetables, flour, and processed foods. The CDC approximates that over 1 million instances of foodborne illness annually can be attributed to this bacterium. For healthy individuals, exposure to Salmonella typically results in symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Nevertheless, the CDC cautions that individuals under the age of five, adults over 65, and those with compromised or weakened immune systems face an elevated risk of contracting a severe or fatal infection.
