#HipHopNews: Nicki Minaj's 'Pink Friday 2' Earns Gold Certification & Breaks Spotify Record In 2 Days!

Nicki Minaj‘s fifth LP Pink Friday 2 has already begun piling up the accolades and breaking streaming records just two days following its release.

The project arrived on Friday (December 6) and according to Chart Data, the sequel to Nicki’s debut is already certified gold. The 500,000 equivalent album units include sales and streams from three previously-released singles: “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” “Super Freaky Girl,” and “Last Time I Saw You.”
Minaj has also broken Spotify’s record for the biggest debut of an album by a female Hip Hop artist with a reported 41 million streams this weekend alone.

Nicki’s PF2 is slated to sell between 170,000 and 190,000 album-equivalent units, according to Hits Daily Double,
The outlet is also calling the project “the biggest female rap debut of 2023,” which would give the Queen her third No. 1 album atop the Billboard 200.

Minaj has more gifts for her Barbz as she’s teasing a deluxe of sorts arriving next week with four additional tracks. One of the new additions will feature fellow Queens legend 50 Cent, who is hopping on the “Beep Beep (Remix).”

Nicki hinted at the collaboration on Friday, while responding to a Complex headline highlighting which tracks the outlet believes to be the best from the album.
“Well wait til they hear Schfifty Schent verse on it next week. #GagCity we here,” Nicki captioned a repost of the story.
In a follow-up, on Saturday (December 9), she hit up Fif directly, urging him to fork over the highly anticipated feature.

“Send that verse in sir [sigh emoji]#QGTM,” she wrote; accompanied by a snap of the pair — a picture shared by 50 Cent as part of a birthday wish to the superstar on the eve of her big day.

Pink Friday 2 clocks in at 22 tracks and boasts additional features from Drake, Lil Wayne, Future, Lil Uzi Vert and others.
The project serves as the sequel to her 2010 debut album Pink Friday and her first album since 2018’s Queen, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 185,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.

A tour is expected to follow the album’s release, and Minaj recently told fans to expect a completely different experience this time around and that it will be “greater than every other tour combined.”

#BoxOfficeNews: Box Office: Beyonce's 'Renaissance' Drops to #2 As "The Boy and the Heron" Scores First No. 1
"Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce" has suffered a hard fall on its second weekend. After a promising debut on the post-Thanksgiving weekend, the movie stumbled hard at the North American box office with a huge drop of 77.1%.
The concert film starring and directed by Beyonce Knowles lost its first spot and fell off to No. 6 despite a lack of major competition from new releases. It added an estimated $5 million on its second weekend, bringing its domestic gross to $28 million so far.

With no new wide releases from major Hollywood studios, "The Boy and the Heron" easily steals the thunder. The Japanese movie from acclaimed filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki blasts to No. 1 with an estimated $10.4 million.
The long-awaited animated fantasy from the director of "Spirited Away" and "My Neighbor Totoro" marks the first No. 1 in Miyazaki's decades-spanning career. It's also only the third anime to ever top the box office in U.S. and Canadian theaters and the first original anime to do so. It's additionally the first fully foreign production to land atop the domestic box office this year.

"It's really a resounding statement for what animation can be," said Eric Beckman, founder and chief executive of GKIDS, the North American distributor for Studio Ghibli films. "American audiences have been ready for a lot more than what they've been getting, and I think this really points to that direction."
"The Boy and the Heron", which is playing in both subtitled and dubbed versions, has been hailed as one of the best films of the year. The English dub voice cast includes Robert Pattinson, Christian Bale, Dave Bautista and Mark Hamill.

Back to the chart, "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is steady at No. 2 with approximately $9.4 million, dropping only 33.7% from last week. "Godzilla Minus One" follows at No. 3 with an estimated $8.3 million.
"Trolls Band Together" and "Wish" come at the fourth and fifth place respectively. Though the final numbers will only be released on Monday morning, the third "Trolls" movie appears to finish slightly ahead with an estimated $6.2 million, while the Disney offering bagged approximately $5.3 million on its third weekend.

Top 10 of North American Box Office (Dec. 08-10, 2023):

"The Boy and the Heron" - $10.4 million
"The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" - $9.4 million
"Godzilla Minus One" - $8.3 million
"Trolls Band Together" - $6.2 million
"Wish" - $5.3 million
"Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce" - $5 million
"Napoleon" - $4.2 million
"Waitress: The Musical" - $2.6 million
"Animal" - $2.3 million
"The Shift" - $2.2 million

Mariah Carey Praises 'Christmas Angels' Ariana Grande And Jennifer Hudson After Surprise Performance

Mariah Carey could not help but shower Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson with praise. One day after delivering a song with her fellow singers for a surprise performance, the "All I Want For Christmas Is You" singer called the "Thank U, Next" hitmaker and the "Spotlight" songstress "Christmas angels."

On Sunday, December 10, Mariah made use of her Instagram page to voice her appreciation for Ariana and Jennifer for their Saturday night, December 9 performance on stage. In the caption of her new post, the 54-year-old exclaimed, "Grateful to have the gorgeous and talented, the Christmas angels @arianagrande @iamjhud join me on stage tonight @thegarden for our song 'Oh Santa! (Remix)'," adding a snowman, Christmas tree and red hearts emojis.

In the same post, Mariah uploaded a photo featuring herself, Ariana and Jennifer while delivering the song on stage. In the snap, Mariah could be seen singing while standing in between Ariana and Jennifer, who were looking at each other. Behind the three singers were dancers and a Christmas-themed background.

During the Saturday concert, which was a part of her "Merry Christmas One and All!" tour, Mariah surprised her devotees by reuniting with Ariana and Jennifer to deliver their holiday collaboration "Oh Santa! (Remix)", which was released back in 2020. While taking the stage at Madison Square Garden in New York, she revealed that she had prepared an "unexpected, yet amazing" gift for the fans.

Mariah then invited the surprise guest stars to get on the stage as she excitedly stated, "You wouldn't believe it, but here we have JHud with Ari!" At one point, she praised Ariana and Jennifer's stylish looks for the night by saying, "Gorgeous."
For the gig, Mariah, Ariana and Jennifer looked in sync in their glittery mini dresses. Mariah opted to wear a sleeveless silver mini dress, a pair of matching high heels and several matching accessories. In contrast, Jennifer looked stunning in a long-sleeved black dress and over-the-head hairdo. Meanwhile, Ariana donned an off-the-shoulder red gown with a pair of matching gloves.

Tommie Lee Exposes DMs with Tamar Braxton’s Boyfriend Jeremy JR Robinson After Braxton Calls Her a ‘Crackhead’
Tamar Braxton has seemingly reignited her feud with Tommie Lee by hurling indirect insults at the “Love and Hip Hop” star during a recent show.

During her Dec. 8th performance at the House of Blues in Orlando, Florida, the “Changed” singer confirmed to the audience that she recently got back together with her ex-fiancé Jeremy “JR” Robinson while also viciously targeting Lee for their previous outing together.
“That’s why I had to go get my man back y’all,” Braxton said to her swarm of concertgoers. “And I know y’all lying if y’all thought I was gonna let my man go ’cause he took some crackhead to a basketball game.”

In her own shady way, the youngest Braxton sister was referencing Lee and Robinson’s outing at the Atlanta Hawks game last month.
Braxton then suggested that Robinson owed her “no loyalty” because they were not an item at the time. She stated, “That was not my man, he don’t owe me no loyalty when we broke up, shoot, I coulda went out with his homeboy, wassup.”
Braxton and Robinson met and got engaged on the Peacock reality dating series “Queens Court,” where she and two other famous women — singer Nivea, and “Basketball Wives” Star Evelyn Lozado — dated 21 men in hopes of finding their king.

News of their engagement was revealed in March, followed by the launch of their YouTube series “All Things Black & White With Tamar & JR” in June. By early October, Robinson publicly revealed that he and Braxton had separated on Instagram.

The mother of one said it’s “fair game” after a breakup, “Don’t get it f—-k up, he’s a good man, Savannah.”
Braxton’s video quickly went viral, catching the attention of Lee, who decided to set the record straight with receipts of her and Robinson’s exchange. In a video on the “Baddies” star’s IG story, she can be heard explaining that Robinson became “thirsty” after she sent him a DM and complimented his suits.

“Thirsty to sell his book all it took was a compliment to get ya good man Savannah wake up mama,” Lee wrote over screenshots of what she presented as her and Robinson’s exchange
The purported messages show he suggested they go to dinner together as Lee stated in her video. “He wanted to fly me out, what’s wrong with me going to a game?”

Lee then advised Braxton to not take Robinson seriously, stating that he knew about their beef before asking her out. “What is wrong with the situation is that that is your man, as you call it, that is your man, he knew there was a situation with me and you and he was down. He was down to play opp games.”
Robinson recently admitted to “purposely” hurting Braxton in a video on Instagram Live over a week ago. Though he never specified what he did to intentionally hurt her, many suspected that the lawyer was alluding to his night out with Lee.

Lee then suggested that she lost interest in Robinson after he supposedly used his points to pay for a room at the Waldorf Hotel. “I knew that I could no longer play this game. So, it was a one-night thing,” he shared.
In addition to those allegations, Lee also stated that Robinson spilled some tea about Braxton’s life outside of the lights.

“You [Robinson] don’t want me to expose how you were saying that you kicked her out and she went back to her mother’s house,” Lee said. She also accused Braxton of being untruthful about the ticket sales of her Love and War 10th Anniversary Tour.
Lee explained, “‘Between me and you’ was his exact words, ‘The tour not sold out.’ He said you was messy, he said that you went back to your mother’s house. He told me a lot of things that he shouldn’t tell a stranger. I just met this man, less than a week.”

The reality star then urged the Grammy-nominated artist to “check” Robinson “and check your situation to really see if you’re sleeping with the enemy or not. I am not your problem, I don’t know you.”

Lee also instructed Braxton to “tighten up,” stating that “two Black girls” should never let a man cause them to argue online.
The recent online beef between Lee and the “Braxton Family Values” star began after Lee accused Braxton of using “Vibes” rapper Chrisean Rock for a “viral” moment following an alleged physical altercation that took place backstage between Rock and Braxton’s backup singer James Wright Chanel.

Neither Braxton nor Robinson has addressed Lee’s claims.

Terrence Howard Sues His Former Reps CAA, Who Also Represented Lee Daniels, Over ‘Lowball’ Pay on ‘Empire’!

Actor Terrence Howard has initiated a legal action against a prominent Hollywood talent agency. The NAACP Award winner claims the agency failed to prioritize his best interests during his role on the successful Fox series “Empire.”

Howard is suing the Creative Artists Agency LLC for breach of fiduciary duty, filing his claim in a Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday, Dec. 9.
He asserts that the agency’s dual representation of both him and the show’s producer, Lee Daniels, created a conflict of interest. On the show, for six seasons, he played Lucious Lyons, a sinister music mogul whose empire was supported by his dysfunctional family. The show was one of the top shows on television from 2015 to 2020.

The Cleveland native contends that he was deprived of the competitive compensation typically accorded to male leads of popular shows. The agency neglected to advocate on his behalf for a salary commensurate with that of comparable white actors in the industry, Howard claims.

He said at a press conference on Friday, that he was never given accurate information regarding what salary he should expect in negotiations from his agents. CAA agents led him to believe that they were negotiating his contract in a way that would result in compensation comparable to figures like Kevin Spacey in “House of Cards” or Jon Hamm in “Mad Men.”

“Not only did it become abundantly clear that his agents led him on a path to rely on information that was misleading, he discovered that this was the result of the fact that CAA was not acting in his best interest, but in the interest of their own financial benefit as well as the interest of the Production Companies and the producers, Daniels and Strong,” Howard’s lawsuit says, according to Variety.

CAA implemented package deals, bundling multiple clients’ salaries without prioritizing Terrence Howard as a standalone star. This practice, involving talent agencies receiving packaging fees on TV series, was basically banned after a nearly two-year battle led by the Writers Guild of America against Hollywood’s major agencies.
“Under normal circumstances,” the complaint continued, “Had CAA not been the packaging agent, and had CAA not been concurrently representing the Production Companies, where their sole financial interest would have been the 10% fee from the compensation received by Howard, they would have most certainly fought for Howard in a manner that most producers are accustomed to seeing CAA agents engage in.”

Fans immediately took up arms and blamed Daniels. “Lee Daniels don’t like to pay nobody does it,” one person said in Instagram. “He owes Damon dash, Mo’Nique, and Terrance Howard.”
Others were shocked that the agency did him dirty. “But you are his agent my gawd! This man has been done wrong so much,” a comment read. Another said, “This seems to be a recurring theme, if true, he needs to sue everyone involved….. Twice!” Some just wanted justice for the star, writing, “Run him his coins.”

According to the star, “Empire” at one point had as many viewers each week as another hit show, with a predominantly white cast, “Big Bang Theory.” However, his pay was substantially less than that show’s lead, Jim Parsons.
“I can’t say for certain this was a racial issue, but I can’t imagine another counterpart – a white counterpart – with the same accolades, name recognition and numbers that I had, receiving the lowball pay that I was receiving,” Howard said, according to Rolling Stone.

The “Best Man” stand-out said that he really didn’t want to believe he was being jerked and also didn’t want to be a proverbial squeaky wheel.
“I drank the Kool-Aid. I believed that I was going to get paid, or that I was getting compensated properly, but I wasn’t,” Howard noted. “I just didn’t want to piss off CAA and Fox. They’re big companies to go to war against.”

He added, he just could not stay quiet any longer. “But sooner or later you’ve got to stand up, because they’re just trampling over the rights of the artists,” he added.
CAA reportedly declined to comment on the lawsuit for which Howard has hired Mississippi attorney Carlos Moore to defend him. But this isn’t the first time he’s raised an issue about his pay.

One commentator said, “He always getting got. Didn’t forget iron man.” After playing in the 2008 film, Howard claims producers offered, “one-eighth of what we contractually had for you because we think the second one will be successful with or without you.”

In 2020, the beloved entertainer sued  20th Century Fox Film for allegedly being underpaid royalty fees for the use of his name and likeness on merchandise. He claimed that the “Empire” logo was created by using the likeness of his “Hustle & Flow” character, Tyler DJay Moran.

Chris Rock Decline to Host Golden Globes 2024

Chris Rock is among several stars who have reportedly declined to host the 2024 Golden Globes.
The awards show is scheduled to take place on January 7, 2024. Nominations will be announced on Monday (December 11).
Chris has previously hosted the Oscars twice and was a candidate to host last year’s Golden Globes.
On Sunday (December 10), CNN reported that at least for other A-list comedic actors have turned down the opportunity to host the Golden Globes.

According to the outlet, Beef actress Ali Wong was also approached to host.
Furthermore, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, who host the SmartLess podcast together, were offered a joint gig at the 2024 Golden Globes.

While no further celebrities were named, a source told CNN that “three very serious conversations” with potential hosts are currently happening.

Diplo blasts revenge porn lawsuit as being part of a 'smear campaign'!

Diplo has accused a woman of orchestrating a "smear campaign" against him after she accused him of distributing revenge porn.
The 45-year-old DJ is the subject of a new police report filed by Shelly Auguste - who first took legal action against him in 2020 - in which she has again claimed he shared nude photos of her without consent and she is suing him for sexual battery, gender violence, intentional intrusion into private affairs, battery, assault, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress and fraud, as well as violation of the Ralph Civil Rights Act and violation of the Tom Bane Civil Rights Act, Pitchfork reports.

According to the outlet, the woman went to police in August “to report that she was the victim of Revenge Porn" and last month, LAPD submitted her report to the Los Angeles city attorney’s office, where it is currently under review.
Auguste claimed she went to police on the day a woman contacted her on Instagram and told her she had six nude photos of her, which she alleged were "the photographs that either [Diplo] took or that she had given to him.”

Her police report added: "[Accuser] believes that [Diplo] is distributing the nude photographs because he is mad at her for recently filing legal action against him. She stated that he wants to harass and embarrass her.”
She was granted a new temporary restraining order against the producer on 18 September, while Diplo - whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz - had his own request for a similar order denied.

The accuser said in a statement: “I think it’s time the music industry stops enabling the perpetual abuse that occurs.
“I have been silenced for far too long. I hope that with this restraining order I can finally gain peace and protection. I hope that with the criminal investigation, the justice system gets it right this time.”

Diplo's attorney argued Auguste has been "orchestrating an ongoing smear campaign against [Diplo]" for more than three years.
Bryan Freedman said in a statement: “Ms. Auguste has already been the subject of a restraining order, the violation of which resulted in an arbitrator’s ruling and a court judgment of more than $1.2 million in damages because of her misconduct.
"Her recent attempt to enlist a co-conspirator to shake down [Diplo] in a bogus lawsuit fell apart within days when indisputable evidence disproved her story, and the case was dismissed.

“Now, Ms. Auguste is at it yet again. But [Diplo] will defend himself, and, just as he has done every time Ms. Auguste has defamed, harassed and attacked him and his family, he will win."
In July 2021, the woman first went to police to accuse Diplo of recording and distributing sexual content without her permission.
He denied the allegations in a lengthy Instagram post and later sued for stalking, trespassing, and distributing private materials, arguing the woman was "dangerously unstable" and had “made relentless efforts to communicate with him" after their relationship ended.

The pair had had signed a dual restraining order agreement, in which they agreed not to disparage each other but in September 2022, Diplo was awarded $1.2 million after an arbitrator determined the deal had been broken by Auguste's social media posts.

A civil trial is scheduled for April 2024.

McDonald's reveals menu for CosMc's locations

McDonald's officially confirmed this week its universe will be expanding with the launch of a new test restaurant format to try and compete with chains like Starbucks and Dunkin'.
The company revealed Wednesday it will open about 10 CosMc's locations by the end of 2024. The first will be opening this month in Bolingbrook, Illinois, near the company's headquarters in Chicago. The rest will be in Texas, including the Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio metro areas, according to the announcement. The company plans to study the results for at least a year before determining whether to expand with more.

Photos and videos of the first site went viral on social media earlier this week ahead of the official announcement. It looks to be about the size of standalone Starbucks and Dunkin locations with four drive-thru lines.
The company describes CosMc's as "a new small-format, beverage-led concept" that's "powered by a menu of bold, refreshing beverages and tasty treats"

McDonald's President and CEO Chris Kempczinski explained Wednesday that CosMc's is designed to fill in a slump in sales that the company sees in the mid-afternoon. The first CosMc's in Illinois is even right next door to an existing McDonald's location.

McDonald's plans to open 10 CosMc’s restaurants through the first half of next year, including this one in Bolingbrook, Illinois.
CosMc's — named after a space alien character that McDonald's first introduced in the 1980s — will also serve snacks like pretzel bites and Egg McMuffins.

CosMc's menu items
