Mj Rodriguez for Latina Magazine 2021

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez continues to break through the glass ceiling for the trans community and she has done it again. The actress is the first-ever trans cover model for LATINA Magazine and was honored by the publication for her authentic storytelling. Rodriguez, who starred in FX’sPose , recently made history as the first trans actress nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The Afro-Latina multi-hyphenate performer is proud of her heritage and knows the strength that comes from embracing it.

“One thing that I learned as an Afro-Latina, is that I should never, ever, ever be afraid — which I never was — but it was always instilled in me, to never be afraid of your heritage,” Rodriguez tells LATINA in her interview. “Like, if you are culturally expressing yourself, never be afraid to express yourself, whether you’re playing Celia Cruz, Maluma, or Jennifer Lopez, never be afraid to do that.”

Rodriguez looks stunning in her photos giving us all of the ‘80s glamor shots realness we can handle. The minimalist nature of her photo evokes an inner beauty that can only come from having confidence in who you are and owning your full identity.

In her LATINA Magazine interview, Rodriguez further opens up about life as a “hood kid” growing up in Newark and her journey to discover and embrace her gender identity. It was when she played Angel in an off-Broadway revival of Rent that Rodriguez felt empowered to tell her own story of her gender identity journey.

#RHOA: Sheree Whitfield and BF Tyrone Gilliams Not On Speaking Terms Following RHOA Scene That Almost Landed Him Back In Prison

Real Housewives of Atlanta star Sheree Whitfield and her boyfriend Tyrone Gilliams aren’t on the best terms.

In fact, the couple isn’t speaking following an RHOA scene that almost landed him back in prison.

Sources close to the situation told TMZ the pair hadn’t talked since Nov. 6 when Sheree told Tyrone she was leaving NYC to visit him in Philadelphia. Gilliams is currently sentenced to home confinement.

The trouble started a few hours before they were set to meet. Apparently, Sheree told Tyrone she would be arriving with an ‘RHOA’ camera crew and wanted him to film a scene with her at a restaurant. But due to his restrictions, going would’ve been a big no-no for him, so he passed.

Production then told Gilliams’ attorneys they’d edit the scene to make it look like Tyrone stood her up.

But a photo of Sheree sitting down at a restaurant table with two menus started circulating and led people to believe her boyfriend was also there. Although he wasn’t, yet he’s still worried how the courts would see it.

TMZ previously reported that when  Sheree returned to ‘RHOA,’ she made it clear she wanted her and Gilliams relationship to be a big storyline, but that can’t happen now.

Since the incident in Philly, it’s been said the two haven’t spoken, and neither side has apologized.

#HipHopNews: Young Dolph Unaware Of Any Threats Before Fatal Shooting

Young Dolph’s murder is under investigation, but a new report may shed more light into his mind state in the days leading up to his death.

According to TMZ, the rapper returned to Memphis and was unaware of any ongoing beef or recent threats to his life.

Sources close to Dolph say he was excited to be back in his hometown, and had planned a week full of charity events for his community including his annual Thanksgiving turkey drive.

He apparently felt safe enough to move around his city without security guards, which led to his fateful stop at Makeda’s Cookies where he was gunned down by two assailants.

His focus was on spreading positivity in Memphis with multiple charity events planned. Instead of canceling, his Paper Route Empire record label decided to keep Dolph’s legacy of giving alive and proceed with handing out turkeys in Dolph’s Castalia neighborhood.

“We’re just representing Young Dolph and keeping the legacy going, and just letting everybody know that we’re gonna keep doing this every year,” said Dolph’s artist Snupe Bandz, who was on hand for Friday’s event.

Dolph was at Makeda’s Cookies, a local spot he frequented, on Tuesday when he was ambushed by two men, who opened fire and killed him. Police have released images of the two masked gunmen outside the cookie shop. Following the shooting, cops were called to Yo Gotti’s restaurant Prive out of fear of retaliation. Dolph and Gotti have had issues in the past, but Gotti has not been linked to the murder.

In the wake of his death, Dolph’s longtime partner, Mia Jaye, shared a touching tribute to the father of her two children, while friends including Monica, Megan Thee Stallion, and Rick Ross mourned the tragic loss on social media.

Kevin Hart to play Arnold on one-night ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ revival

Bringing a silly meme to life, Kevin Hart will play Arnold Drummond, the wisecracking boy from “Diff’rent Strokes,” on a live revival of the ’80s sitcom next month.

The comedian has been cast on the third installment of “Live in Front of a Studio Audience,” the ABC franchise that earlier presented all-star re-enactments of “All in the Family,” “Good Times” and “The Jeffersons.”

Hart, 42, is taking on a character depicted as a tween and later a teen on the 1978-86 series. The diminutive actor clearly has a sense of humor about the comparison, having posted a meme in 2019 that superimposed his face on clips of Arnold spouting his catchphrase, “Whatchu talkin’ ’bout?”

“I’m f- - -ing dying laughing,” Hart commented.

Coleman, a Zion native, died in 2010.

On the special, scheduled for Dec. 7, he’ll be joined by John Lithgow as Arnold’s adoptive father Mr. Drummond, Damon Wayans as big brother Willis and Ann Dowd as housekeeper Mrs. Garrett.

Garrett’s character was spun off for another hit show, “The Facts of Life,” which also will be re-created on the special.

Kanye West and Drake Team for ‘Free Larry Hoover’ Los Angeles Concert

Kanye West has officially announced a one-night benefit concert titled “Free Larry Hoover,” which is scheduled to take place on Dec. 9 at the L.A. Coliseum in Los Angeles, Calif.

The event will feature Drake, who West has spoke of in both admiring and dismissive terms only recently. A long-running feud between the two rappers will allegedly be “put to rest” during the concert.

The event’s poster, with the caption “God’s plan,” was shared on West’s Instagram. On the L.A. Coliseum’s event page, it reads that the historic concert will “raise awareness and support for Larry Hoover and the cause of prison and sentencing reform.” Hoover, the co-founder of Gangster Disciples, was found guilty of murder, extortion and money laundering among other charges in 1997 and is currently serving six life sentences. West has been working to free Hoover for some time now, having asked Donald Trump in 2018 to grant Hoover clemency.

“I believe this event will not only bring awareness to our cause but prove to people everywhere how much more we can accomplish when we lay our pride aside and come together,” Ye said in a statement.

“With Ye, Drake and J Prince united to advocate for my father’s release, we can take our plea for redemption worldwide and show that we are truly stronger together on behalf of any and everyone with a love one wrong or unjustly incarcerated,” added Larry Hoover Jr. in a statement. “Free my father!”

The concert will be Ye’s first show in five years, following the cancellation of his 2016 Saint Pablo Tour. It will also be Drake’s first show since the Astroworld Festival tragedy, which resulted in 10 deaths and over 300 injuries, with some lawsuits being filed against Drake, Travis Scott and Live Nation. The show will also mark the first time West and Drake are seen together publicly amid their no-longer-on-going feud.

Tickets for the event go on sale Nov. 22 at 10 a.m.

Country singer Mickey Guyton gives update on 9-month-old son after ICU trip!

Country star Mickey Guyton revealed her son Grayson’s doctors finally have a plan in place after the 9-month-old was hospitalized.

“Hey guys I just wanted to give y’all an update on little Gray. My baby fell ill on November 11th, eventually requiring a trip to the ICU,” the “Black Like Me” singer, 37, wrote on Instagram on Saturday.

“It turned out to be dehydration because of a severe stomach bug. Seeing my baby boy like this was truly terrifying,” she continued.

Guyton explained that a pediatric doctor stayed by Grayson’s side while he was waiting in the emergency room and was the one who “discovered the problem.”

Their family doctor was then able to secure a bed for the baby despite all of the hospitals in the area being “maxed out and understaffed because of nurse shortages,” according to Guyton.

“I truly believe Grayson would not be on the road to a full recovery without them,” she wrote. “Grayson is doing much better, all signs are stable and improving. He is still dehydrated and weak and has lost a lot of weight from not being able to retain any liquid.”

The “Remember Her Name” singer called her son a “fighter” in her post and celebrated his labs finally “showing he is headed in the right direction.”

“He was stabilized and released from the ICU within a matter of hours,” she added. “He’s getting better by the minute, it’s just going to take some time.”

Guyton is scheduled to perform at the 2021 American Music Awards on Sunday. Her rep did not immediately respond for comment on whether she’ll still take the stage amid Grayson’s health crisis.

The pioneering singer gave birth to her son in February, writing on Instagram at the time, “The hardest and most beautiful thing I have ever done. Welcome to the world Grayson!”

Guyton last posted a photo of Grayson in late October to show off his first Halloween costume.

“I am officially done with my little rocket man. 👩🏽🚀🚀🎃🥺,” she wrote under a snap of the infant sitting up in a silver astronaut suit.

Guyton shares Grayson with her husband, lawyer Grant Savoy. The couple tied the knot in June 2017 after seven years together

JoJo Siwa says Kylie Prew breakup happened ‘all of a sudden’

JoJo Siwa says her breakup with ex-girlfriend Kylie Prew just sort of happened after less than a year of dating.

“I fell in love with somebody who I didn’t ever expect to fall in love with. We met on a cruise ship. She was my best friend,” the 18-year-old told People on Friday. “And then we went to Disney together, and all of a sudden … it kind of all happened.”

Siwa added that the October split helped her learn “to just trust life, and whatever’s supposed to happen is going to happen.”

Though she isn’t dating again yet, the “Dance Moms” alum is in the market for a “cuddle buddy.”

“Trust me, I want to have a cuddle date,” she told the magazine. “So if anybody out there needs a cuddle date, cuddle buddy, I’ll take it.”

Prew and Siwa made their red carpet debut in September, shortly before splitting.

Siwa originally confirmed her split from Prew on Nov. 2 while chatting with Paris Hilton during an episode of the “This Is Paris” podcast.

“I have yet to talk about this officially, publicly, but we broke up,” she told Hilton, 40, adding that Prew, 18, “is literally still” her “best friend.”

“I talked to her yesterday. She just got a new puppy. She’s awesome,” the “Dancing With the Stars” contestant said. “She’s having the time of her life, I’m having the time of my life.”

Chuck D Points Finger at Live Nation for Astroworld Tragedy – Not Travis Scott

*Chuck D of Public Enemy has never been one to mince words on injustice. Recently he penned an open letter to those that organized the Astroworld event for Travis Scott.

This is likely in response to the overall lynch mob vibes people are putting out there regarding legal action against Scott himself, who was the performer and not the venue owner, venue management, security or design. So, pray tell, how exactly is this Travis’ fault?

A nine-year boy was among ten people killed when a avalanche of human bodies cause a crush at the Houston event two weeks ago.

In his letter he wrote, “I cannot believe we’re at the point where I [got to] say this out loud: Travis Scott is a performer, an act, not a concert promoter. He doesn’t run the sound or venues or festivals or their staff. He doesn’t build stages or coordinate logistics, he’s not an expert in crowd control or security or emergency medical services. But he does trust Live Nation and all the other concert promoters who are supposed to do all of this. And yet here we are, 10 deaths and counting. 10 broken families. The world is mourning,” his letter began.

“I’m tired of these corporations shucking their most crucial responsibility. These folks simply say Rest In Peace and move on. This negligence can’t continue. Folks want answers. I’m not buying the Young Black Man did it. He’s being blamed for a crime while the old white men running the corps that Travis and his fans trusted with their lives stay quiet in the shadows, counting their money and watching their stock prices go up and up.

“The excuse of Scott’s irresponsible actions don’t wash – if his act had a history of that behavior why promote him to bigger venues, why partner with him in the first place and let him headline a bigger audience? Live Nation controlled this show. They control almost all of the concert venues. Artists ain’t speaking out because these same cats are already bought by these corporations. No one can say a word against them unless they want to be Blacklisted and hurt their careers.”

The Migos rapper’s brother was released from prison on Thursday (Nov. 18) and Offset was there to welcome him home. He documented the joyous occasion in a series of Instagram Stories.

In one video, ‘Set was seen smiling while embracing his brother in the parking lot before his bro takes a call on FaceTime, which wasn’t even invented when he went to prison over a decade ago.

One of the first things Offset did was get his brother a fresh haircut. “He back baby,” Offset wrote in his caption.

Of course, he also hooked him up with a new wardrobe (“Getting my drip right!!!” wrote his bro) before heading to the studio with Offset.

Tami Roman Suffers From Body Dysmorphic Disorder, Says It Started At 13: I started abusing laxatives, not eating & throwing up

On THE REAL airing Monday, November 22nd, guest co-host Tami Roman (“The Real World: Los Angeles,” “Basketball Wives”) reveals for the first time publicly that she suffers from Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Tami shares when the disease started and what effect hearing, “you’re too skinny” actually has on her mind.

She explains,

I suffer from body dysmorphic disorder. And I’ve been dealing with it since I was 13 years old. And so, a lot of people don’t know it’s either hereditary or genetic or comes from a negative experience, where your self- image has been annihilated. And for me when I was 13 years old, I wanted to be a model. You know we’re from New York, I was tall, I was 5’9, I was thin. And I went to this agency and walked in, and that lady ripped me to shreds. I thought I was perfect. 5’9, less than 120 pounds. Assuredly they’re going to sign me. And she literally stood me in front of a mirror and said you’ve got back folds, you’ve got fat over your knees, you need to do something with your chin, your breasts are sagging. And I went home that night and from that moment, every time I looked at myself in the mirror, I could find something wrong with myself. And I didn’t know what it was, I didn’t know how to deal with it, I just knew well, I’ve got to get skinnier, I’ve got to make myself smaller. I want to be a model.

Tami continues,

And so, I started abusing laxatives, I started not eating, I started throwing up, I started doing everything that I could think of to do to be as skinny as I could possibly be, being obsessive about my weight loss. People don’t realize, that’s why I got my mouth wired in 1993. To be skinny when I was already skinny. And so now today at 50 years old, I’ve been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and so my weight fluctuates with that, and you couple that with the disorder and it’s a hard thing to manage. People don’t understand what it is to be a person with this disorder, particularly dealing with the weight issues, because they leave negative comments.

She adds, Or what they feel are negative comments, but for me, my mind has such a warped sense of perception, it’s a compliment. Tami, you look too frail, Tami, you look like a bobblehead, Tami, you look skinny. In my mind, that goes, well I’m on the right track, I’m getting skinny. And then I don’t know when to stop.

The First Black US Attorney In Manhattan Sworn In Friday

On Friday, the first Black US Attorney for the Southern District of New York was sworn into office in a ceremony at the Harlem Armory.

Damian Williams, 41, made history at his ceremonial swearing-in and will oversee some of the most high-profile cases in his role. In fact, he inherited the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell and the investigation into Rudy Giuliani.

He said he would prioritize “civil rights enforcement,” among other issues, and announced a new civil rights unit.

“White supremacist groups are on the march. Anti-Semitism is on the march. Anti-Asian bias is on the march. Abuse of the most vulnerable in our society is on the march,” he said. “So I am proud to announce today that I have created a brand new civil rights unit in the criminal division of my office.”

Willaims said he understands “we are living in troubled times” currently. The new unit will build on work an existing team has already carried out for decades.

Senator Chuck Schumer, who recommended Williams for the position, and Attorney General Merrick Garland attended the swearing-in. The ceremony was also attended by former US Attorney General Eric Holder and former Governor David Paterson.
