Alicia Keys for Marie Claire - November 2021!
Alicia Keys covers the November digital issue of Marie Claire, which just went live. In the piece she opens up about balancing her marriage and family life, her new album Keys and much more.
On finally feeling strong and free creatively: “I’m reaching a place where I’m much more confidently clear about the power I possess. I’ve always been strong and determined. I haven’t not known my power, but now I’m clearly aware of all of it, as opposed to just pieces of it.”
On her new album Keys: “I created the whole album sitting at the piano. It felt so good to just sit there. I felt so comfortable coming back to my home base, back to that rawness and exploring even more of this kind of jazzy energy I started with…to create a confidence and a level of reckoning and willingness. I wanted to own my lane.”
On the importance of family time: “My time is important. I want to have time with my family. I want to raise my kids. I don’t want to always be 60,000 miles away.” But when work does pick up, she sits and talks with her sons about her absence. She’ll say, “‘It’s going to feel like I’m not around as much and you’re going to feel it. I’m feeling it, too. It’s okay. This is a season.’ We have to have these types of conversations.”
On creating music during the pandemic: “Everybody was like, ‘Are you just so creative because you have all this time in the house?’”… “I was like, ‘No, actually. I do not feel like that at all’. I didn’t even know how to work. What was I supposed to work on? Where was I supposed to work? And when? It was so much of making sure everything was organized and the kids were good….I started to go back to stream-of-consciousness writing… I was holding so much. You feel claustrophobic. The world is falling apart, and the government is shit and you’re like, What does anything mean? When I would be able to express those anxious feelings and say I’m falling apart, there would be room for things to come in.”
On her new lifestyle and beauty brand, Keys Soulcare: “Keys Soulcare is an accumulation of all the things I’ve realized over the years. I can find the place to feel good and feel like myself. It’s about this idea of nurturing your soul and honoring yourself and starting to create rituals and opportunities for you to connect with yourself”.
On what representation means to her family: “Every room in this house has a beautiful Black face. When my kids walk in this house, they look on these walls they see their beautiful Blackness and it is normal. That does give you a certain sense of validation or belonging.”

#HipHopNews: Drake Shares Statement After Astroworld Tragedy!
Drake is breaking his silence amid the tragedy at Astroworld.
For the first time since eight people died and hundreds were injured following a crowd surge during the Houston festival, the Toronto rapper has issued a statement via Instagram.
“I’ve spent the past few days trying to wrap my mind around this devastating tragedy,” he wrote on Monday night. “I hate resorting to this platform to express an emotion as delicate as grief but this is where I find myself. My heart is broken for the families and friends of those who lost their lives and for anyone who is suffering. I will continue to pray for all of them, and will be of service in any way I can. May God be with you all.”
Drake joined Scott on stage as a special guest during Friday’s performance at Houston’s NRG Park.
On Saturday, Scott released his own statement. “I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night,” he wrote. “My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival.”
“Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life,” he continued. “I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need. Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department and NRG Park for their immediate response and support. Love You All.”
In a later video, he said he’s been “working closely with everyone to just try to get to the bottom of this,” including the city of Houston and the Houston Police Department.
“I’m honestly just devastated,” added Scott. “I could never imagine anything like this happening.”
Both Drake and Scott are facing lawsuits, including one from the family of a 9-year-old victim who was “trampled nearly to death” during the concert. Scott has vowed to cover funeral costs for those who died and will refund tickets for all attendees.
Brian Williams is leaving MSNBC and NBC News!
Anchorman Brian Williams, a 28-year veteran of NBC News and MSNBC, said Tuesday that he is leaving the company at the end of this year.
"This is the end of a chapter and the beginning of another," Williams said in a statement. "There are many things I want to do, and I'll pop up again somewhere."
Williams expressed deep gratitude to NBC, saying the network "is a part of me and always will be."
He is about to become a free agent for the first time in decades.
For the past five years, Williams has anchored "The 11th Hour," an end-of-the-day newscast and political talk program. CNN Business reported in August that his contract was expiring in the next six months and that he wanted to move off the late-night hour.
Now he is doing it. But he added in Tuesday's statement, "I ask all those who are a part of our loyal viewing audience to remain loyal. The 11th Hour will remain in good hands, produced by the best team in cable news."
Williams' exit from NBC has an end-of-an-era feel. He was a key player in the launch of the MSNBC news channel in 1996, manning breaking news coverage and a prime time recap of the day. Then he became one of America's best-known newsmen during his decade at the helm of the "NBC Nightly News," one of the most-watched news programs in the US.
His "Nightly" tenure was cut short in 2015 when he was found to have exaggerated some stories in interviews. He was suspended for six months and was replaced by Lester Holt on the "Nightly News." But he embraced his new assignment on MSNBC and was able to essentially reinvent himself.
"Most broadcasters would have been cooked if they had undergone the sort of scandal that Williams faced in 2015," Vanity Fair said in 2017. "But a slow-and-steady revival -- a mixture of dutiful penance, clever planning, and a dramatic change in the media -- has Williams turning 11 p.m. into the new primetime."
On cable, Williams was free to share more of his personality and perspective. He was also at the desk for most of the biggest moments of the Trump presidency.
In his statement, Williams boiled down his time at NBC this way: "28 years, 38 countries, 8 Olympic games, 7 Presidential elections, half a dozen Presidents, a few wars, and one SNL."
His impending departure comes after a period of executive turnover at NBC News. His longtime ally Andy Lack exited last year.
"Good friends were in great supply at NBC," Williams said Tuesday. "I was fortunate that everyone I worked with made me better at my job. I've had the best colleagues imaginable. That includes great bosses."
A source close to Williams said NBC did make Williams a new contract offer and declined to share the reasons why he passed on it. Williams framed the situation this way: "Following much reflection, and after 28 years with the company, I have decided to leave NBC upon the completion of my current contract in December."
The source said there will be no imminent announcement about a new role at another media company. (News reports this fall have speculated about him jumping to a new network.)
Williams has not held any formal discussions about a new position yet, the source added.
After saying he'll "pop up again somewhere," Williams indicated that he will be savoring some downtime first: "For the next few months, I'll be with my family, the people I love most and the people who enabled my career to happen," he said. "I will reflect on the kindness people have shown me, and I will pay it forward."

The SKIMS x Fendi collab is expected to be the biggest launch day since Kim Kardashian debuted SKIMS in 2019. The products offered in the Fendi collab ranged between $100 USD to $4,200 USD and even featured Kardashian West’s $4,000 USD dark brown leather dress that she wore to accept her award from the WSJ‘s 2001 Innovator Award ceremony. According to the same reports, more than 300,000 people signed up for the waitlist ahead of the SKIMS x Fendi collab launch.
The collaboration was initially announced at the end of October 2021. Kardashian West explained that the partnership came about when she met with Kim Jones, Fendi’s creative director after his co-workers continuously praised the brand. After sending Jones some SKIMS products, the two joined creative forces to create the collaboration. In her interview with the WSJ, she discussed her brand sharing, “I always loved shapewear. I would find that I couldn’t find shapewear that would be my skin tone. I really wanted to launch my own shapewear that took all of the designs that I was cutting up myself, that I was dying myself.” Despite the negative press surrounding their relationships, the reality star now-turned designer also said that, “Kanye will always be the most inspirational person to me.”
Will Smith Says He Once Cussed Out an NBC Exec on 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' During Near-Physical Confrontation!
Will Smith says he once got into a heated argument with an NBC exec that almost ended in violence.
via Page Six: The altercation purportedly began when the then neophyte actor felt a scene wasn’t working on his sitcom, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and unilaterally made some changes to the script — incurring the wrath of a passel of producers who immediately halted production.
Smith, then 22, along with his producing partner James Lassiter, and two of the show’s producers, Benny Medina and Jeff Pollack, were called into an unnamed exec’s office.
“I’ve seen this happen a thousand f–king times,” the exec allegedly said, according to the just-released biography “Will.” “You can be gone just as fast as you got here.”
The tongue-lashing didn’t end there. As the exec circled, he continued to berate Smith, causing Lassiter to surreptitiously pick up a heavy snowglobe as a possible weapon.
“So you can unilaterally change any of the words you want on a network sitcom, huh?” the exec yelled. “Hundreds of millions of dollars, multiple partners, a s–t-ton of f–king veterans of the business … and you get to decide what the words are?”
The “Men in Black” star, feeling threatened, bit back.
“What the f–k you wanna do, bitch?” Smith recounts he snarled. “Who the f–k is you talkin’ to?”
He then demanded that the exec sit down.
“Sit down when you talk to me,” Smith bellowed. “SIT. THE. F–K DOWN.”
Smith says the exec immediately backed down, explaining that he’d just undergone major back surgery, leaving him unable to sit properly.
When Smith and his crew exited the office, he soon realized the seriousness of the situation and called up the show’s executive producer Quincy Jones in a panic.
“I think I f–ked up,” he blurted out to Jones.
The prolific producer calmed Smith down by explaining that he’d just experienced “creative differences” and as long as no punches were exchanged, all was good.
Smith chalked up his and Lassiter’s hair-trigger responses to growing up amidst violence.
“We were coming from violent homes and violent neighborhoods and the violent music world,” he recounted. “It was not unreasonable to think that an executive might get violent. We felt cornered and vulnerable.”
Other revelations from the book include Smith’s confession that he fantasized about murdering his father to “avenge” his mother and tripping on ayahuasca after temporarily splitting from wife Jada Pinkett in 2011.
Thankfully it didn’t escalate to violence. Who knows what it could’ve done to the trajectory of Will’s career.
R Kelly’s Cellmate Creates Prison Comic Book Showing The Two Doing Yoga Together!
R. Kelly’s cellmate at the Metropolitan Detention Center, who was charged with threatening to kill elected officials, made a comic book about the two doing yoga together in their cell, court records filed Tuesday show.
Brendan Hunt, 37, is working on being released on time served ahead of his sentencing, his attorneys filed a letter to the court stating the former New York state court employee has changed his life around and is a great artist who deserves to be free.
“Putting his artistic talents to work, he created a Prison Comics strip, which has been enjoyed by many, and we offer a few episodes here as Exhibit F. These are comics and intended to be light. But we think they capture something more profound about the humanizing commonality that can be found even in the most dehumanizing conditions,” Hunt’s attorneys wrote in the letter.
“Mr. Hunt deserves to be understood as a full spectrum human being and not packaged as a villain who is to be feared and loathed.”
Hunt’s “Prison Comics” creation portrays him as a “hero” and incorporates “special guest, R. Kelly,” who is stunned to learn his cellie is not aware he’s an international megastar.
“I’m the greatest R&B star in human history! How can you not know of R. Kelly?” the vocalist inquires in the comic, enquiring whether he’s listened to any his of hit songs like “Remix to Ignition” or “I Believe I Can Fly.”
“Millions of babies have been conceived to my records,” the comic book Kelly announces.
“Well have you ever heard of the band Megadeath? Or Slayer? Or Dying Fetus?” Hunt asks in response, to which Kelly admits, “I guess I see your point.”
The comic then shows the two bonding while doing yoga together and contains drawings of the pair in warrior pose and downward dog.
“I feel very vulnerable right now,” cartoon Kelly says in the strip while in the downward dog pose.
Then towards the end of the book, the two become very big and express how they can’t wait for the others in the yard to see their gains. Well, it looks like R Kelly is spending his time wisely and clearing his mind as he awaits trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
First Look at Viola Davis as Michelle Obama in ‘The First Lady’ Series!
*We previously reported that Viola Davis is set to play former First Lady Michelle Obama in the anthology series titled “First Ladies” at Showtime, and now we have a first look — see below.
Per CNN, the first season of “The First Lady” will “peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of these enigmatic women,” according to Showtime, and will revolve around famous First Ladies Obama, Eleanor Roosevelt and Betty Ford.
Here’s the official synopsis for the series: “In the East Wing of the White House, many of history’s most impactful and world-changing decisions have been hidden from view, made by America’s charismatic, complex and dynamic first ladies. This series will peel back the curtain on the personal and political lives of our most enigmatic heroes…”
Entertainment Weekly provided a first look at Davis as Obama on Monday, check it out below.
In the series, Gillian Anderson and Michelle Pfeiffer play late former first ladies Eleanor Roosevelt and Betty Ford, respectively.
“Throughout our history, presidents’ spouses have wielded remarkable influence, not only on the nation’s leaders but on the country itself,” Jana Winograde, Showtime’s president of entertainment, said in a previous statement. “[The show] fits perfectly within the Showtime wheelhouse of drama and politics, revealing how much personal relationships impact both domestic and global events.”
“Having Viola Davis play Michelle Obama is a dream come true, and we couldn’t be luckier to have her extraordinary talent to help launch this series,” Winograde added.
While appearing virtually on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” earlier this year, Davis gushed about the role and said she had spoken to Michelle Obama about the series.
“And it’s terrifying because … sometimes someone doesn’t live up to whatever image you have in your head. But when they do live up to the image, it’s quite frightening,” the star said of her conversation with Obama. “It really is.”
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight about the series, Michelle Obama said she is thrilled to see Davis’ portrayal of her.
“I feel that I’m not worthy,” she told the outlet. “I wish I could be better to live up to the character that Viola has to play, but it’s exciting.”
“Anything Viola does, she does it with passion and vigor, and I know she will do no less for this role,” Obama added.

Ye’s Yeezy Brand Settles Slow Shipment Case, Ordered To Pay 950k!
The Yeezy brand has settled to pay 950k back to customers.
Ye’s clothing company Yeezy will pay nearly a million dollars to settle a lawsuit with California over slow shipments to customers.
Four district attorneys alleged that the company, founded by the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, had engaged in false advertising, not shipping orders within 30 days and failed to give customers adequate delay notices on items than hadn’t shipped within 30 days.
Among other claimed violations of the business code, the complaint also stated that Yeezy Apparel and Yeezy made untrue or misleading statements about their ability to “ship products within a certain timeframe, particularly where customers paid an additional charge for expedited shipping.”
Adidas, which backs the Yeezy brand, was not listed in the suit. It’s unclear what penalties Ye will face.
The 950k settlement announced Monday covers 800-thousand dollars in civil penalties, 50-thousand-dollars in restitution to a consumer protection fund and 100-thousand dollars in investigative costs.

Paul Rudd is 'People's Sexiest Man Alive for 2021!
People has announced their 2021 Sexiest Man Alive – and it’s Paul Rudd!
The 52-year-old actor was announced as this year’s title holder during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday (November 9).
In his cover story interview with People, Paul revealed that the only person he told about being named the Sexiest Man Alive was his wife, Julie Yaeger.
“She was stupefied. But you know she was very sweet about it,” Paul said. “After some giggling and shock, she said ‘Oh, they got it right.’ And that was very sweet. She was probably not telling the truth, but what’s she going to say?”
Now that he’s the newest Sexiest Man Alive, Paul anticipates that his life is going to change “a lot.”
“I’m hoping now that I’ll finally be invited to some of those sexy dinners with [George] Clooney and [Brad] Pitt and [Michael] B Jordan,” Paul joked. “And I figure I’ll be on a lot more yachts. I’m excited to expand my yachting life. And I’ll probably try to get better at brooding in really soft light. I like to ponder. I think this is going to help me become more inward and mysterious. And I’m looking forward to that.”
Before the big announcement was made, many fans believed that Paul‘s Marvel co-star would actually be this year’s Sexiest Man Alive.
Congrats Paul!
Black Man Killed in 1898 Race Massacre Finally Receives a Funeral!
A Black man killed in the Wilmington, North Carolina massacre 123 years ago was finally given a funeral.
Joshua Halsey was one of up to 250 people murdered by white supremacists during the racist attack on the thriving Black community. At the time, Wilmington had a strong workforce equipped with Black government officials, laborers, industrial workers, and more. The community built libraries and had established a loan association. However, that came to a halt in November 1898 when a mob of white people killed many residents and burned down their businesses. Unfortunately, the actual death toll is unknown because some of the deceased were thrown in a local swamp, while others are thought to be buried on private property.
For years, Halsey’s remains lay in an unmarked grave until The Third Person Project, a historical research group, began efforts to identify the victims. In addition to Halsey, the remains of Samuel McFarland have also been identified.
Saturday’s funeral was led by Reverend William Barber II, who called Halsey’s murder a “meticulously planned” attack carried out in part by government officials. Barber II compared the massacre’s organizer and former mayor of Wilmington, Alfred Moore Waddell, to Donald Trump, calling Waddell a “charismatic, racist orator” who traveled the country holding rallies to warn other whites about “Negro domination.”
“In other words, he was killed by a man who would have rallies and rev people up at their rallies with his lies. Sound familiar?” Barber II said during his sermon.
Several descendants of Halsey attended the funeral service, including Elaine Cynthia Brown, who hoped that the discovery would make way for others to be identified and given proper burials.
John Jeremiah Sullivan, who worked with The Third Person Project for two years on the efforts, said they’ve known for about 25 years that the remains were in the cemetery, but since the graves were unmarked, they hadn’t found Halsey’s until this year.
A tombstone has now been placed at Halsey’s final resting place.
Don Lemon Sexual Assault Accuser Says Host Will Be Protected Because He's A Black, Gay Celebrity!
A man who accused CNN host Don Lemon of sexual assault detailed his allegations Monday.
Dustin Hice sued Lemon in 2019, saying the host assaulted him in a bar in the Hamptons, New York, a year earlier. Hice claimed Lemon put his hand down his own pants, touched himself, and then shoved his hand in Hice's face.
"Anybody that acts like that in public without any fear of what it might it do to somebody or the consequences it might have, that's a pattern," Hice told Megyn Kelly on Monday.
Lemon has denied the accusation.
"I wouldn't be surprised," Hice said. "He's protected by the fact that he's African American, [a] gay man on television, and I'm just some nobody."
Hice's lawsuit detailed an encounter in 2018 at a bar in Sag Harbor.
After trying to kibbutz with Lemon to no avail, Hice said the alleged assault occurred.
"About five or 10 minutes later, Don gets up, walks around the bar, comes up right up to me and puts his hands down his board shorts," Hice said, according to the New York Post. "He rubs himself aggressively, his penis and whatever else down there."
"Lemon then shoved his index and middle fingers in Plaintiff's mustache and under Plaintiff's nose," according to Hice's suit.
A CNN spokesperson at the time of the 2019 lawsuit called Hice's actions "unsuccessful threats and demands for an exorbitant amount of money."
"The plaintiff in this lawsuit has previously displayed a pattern of contempt for CNN on his social media accounts," the spokesperson told USA Today in a statement. "This claim follows his unsuccessful threats and demands for an exorbitant amount of money from Don Lemon."
Halle Berry Taps Cardi B to Help Her Curate All-Female Soundtrack for Upcoming Netflix Film ‘Bruised’!
Award-winning actress Halle Berry has tapped Cardi B to help her curate an all-female album for her new Netflix film, Bruised.
Halle Berry is set to make her directorial debut with her upcoming Netflix film Bruised, in which she stars as a shamed M.M.A. fighter. The all-female album will stand as the film’s soundtrack, and it will feature six songs.
“I can’t wait to show it. I have to tell you, one of the things I’m most excited about is the title song that H.E.R. sang… and she killed it,” Berry told N.M.E. So I can’t wait to share with everyone and am super excited.”
Along with H.E.R., other female artists included on the soundtrack are Saweetie, Flo Milli and more. Some of the trackless include: Cardi (on ‘Bet It’), Saweetie (‘Attitude’), City Girls (‘Scared’), Latto (‘Tha F*ck’) and Flo Milli (‘Blast Off’),” N.M.E. reports. The songs are said to be “prominently featured in critical moments of the film.”
Berry said bringing women of color together to tell their stories through their own lens has been a pleasure.
“I realized that I can do what I want to do and found something I was passionate about, Berry added. “I love seeing these women of color who are now writing, directing, producing – telling their own stories,” said Berry. “It’s important because for so long, Black women have had their stories told through the eyes of White men. Now, we get to realize our own stories, and that is exciting.”
Bruised drops on Netflix Nov. 24.
