Regina King for Instyle US - February 2021!

For InStyle’s sixth edition of its Badass Women issue, the one and only Regina King is gracing the cover. The February cover star opens up on her acting career that’s spanned 30 years and how it brought her to her feature-film directorial debut with “One Night in Miami.”

On her slow and steady, yet deliberate and intentional rise in Hollywood: “Whatever is successful is for that artist. What works for me doesn’t work for Meryl.” King laughs. “What works for me is that I am not making lateral moves, that I am on an upward trajectory. A lot of this I’m discovering along the way, but I am not compromising my integrity. I’m always continuing to dream.”

On what she wants viewers to walk away with after seeing One Night in Miami: “I want every Black man I know and love to see themselves in this film because I saw them when I read the script,” she says. King wanted to mine these men’s certainties and insecurities, how nervous they were about making mistakes. “Some could look at [those themes] as subtleties, but they are the big-ticket items I want people to leave with,” she continues. “That nobody is perfect, and we are just trying to do our best. While these men are legendary, they were trying to do their best. It’s as simple as that.”

The February issue of InStyle, available on newsstands, on Amazon, and for digital download January 15.

#RHOA #TWIRL: Jessie Woo Throws Some Shade At Kenya Moore Over the Porsha Williams Shade!

Porsha Williams has been receiving a lot of support for her commitment to the Black Lives Matter Movement. She was arrested multiple times as she protested for justice for Breonna Taylor. And she, along with “Love And Hip Hop New York” star Yandy Smith, is very passionate about fighting for change. However, this has not kept both women from receiving some criticism.

Yandy was accused of protesting for clout. And Porsha has been accused of protesting for a storyline on “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

One of Porsha’s biggest critics happens to be Kenya Moore. While talking to Kandi Burruss, Kandi has questioned Porsha’s true motives. She has even accused Porsha of wanting to get arrested in front of the cameras. Regardless, Kenya planned to be respectful when she was going to attend an event Lauren Williams was planning for Porsha. The event was created to celebrate Porsha’s activism.

Lauren originally told Cynthia Bailey that Kenya was allowed to be her plus one. Kenya never received her own invitation. Sometime before the event, Lauren changed her mind. And she told Cynthia that she didn’t want Kenya to come because she worried that Kenya could cause drama. She also worried Kenya could change the mood.

Kenya wasn’t happy to learn she was not allowed to attend. She planned to be cordial and even gift PJ with a Rosa Parks doll.

Interestingly enough, “Love And Hip Hop Miami” star Jessie Woo had some things to say. She came for Kenya on Twiter.

She wrote, “Kenya doesn’t even feel that Porsha is genuine about her BLM work. So her and her Rosa Parks doll can stay home and cry about Marc being in New York with his main family πŸ˜  #RHOA.

#NewMusic from Jazmine Sullivan and H.E.R. “Girl Like Me”!

Jazmine Sullivan has released “Girl Like Me,” a new track from her Heaux Tales project, out Friday (via RCA). It features longtime fan H.E.R.

Check it out HERE

Heaux Tales follows Sullivan’s 2015 album Reality Show. Recent songs “Lost One” and “Pick Up Your Feelings” will also appear. Sullivan has said of the record: “The truth is, women of all ages have been called a ‘heaux’ at some point in life, whether deserved or not, by some man trying to put us in our place; a place designed to keep us under control, out of the way and usually beneath them. Women are over feeling ashamed about the decision we have made, or chose to make, in regards to our bodies.”

#HipHopNews: Doja Cat Has New Collaborations With Megan Thee Stallion, Ariana Grande, SZA For Her New CD ‘Planet Her’!

Doja Cat has teased that she might be collaborating with the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Ariana Grande, SZA and a number of others on her upcoming new album.

After announcing her possible new project ‘Planet Her’ in December, it looks as if the ‘Say So’ hitmaker has now revealed the names of the artists who are set to guest on her potential third album.

Taking to Twitter last night (January 5) to draw attention to the eight people she’s following, she tweeted: “Following them for a reeeeaaaaasssoooonnn πŸ˜‰ Guess why.”

If that reason is because she’s collaborated with them, then it looks as if Doja Cat has recruited French Montana, Megan Thee Stallion, A$AP Ferg, Saweetie, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Young Thug and SZA for her new music.

Back in September, Doja Cat revealed that her new album is “all ready”.

Congress Certifies Biden Win After Violent Pro-Trump Riots At U.S. Capitol!

Joe Biden has been certified the winner of the 2020 presidential election, despite last-ditch efforts from President Trump and his allies to block the results that incited violence in the U.S. Capitol.

Congress finished tallying the Electoral College votes that cemented Biden’s 306-232 victory in the overnight hours Thursday, more than 12 hours after pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol, plunging the proceedings into chaos and sending lawmakers, their staffers and reporters scurrying for shelter.

Both chambers were suspended as lawmakers ducked and covered. When they reconvened well after dark on Wednesday, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle moved swiftly to condemn the violence and restore order to proceedings that are typically little more than a ceremonial exercise.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., called the swarming of the Capitol a “failed insurrection.” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said it was a day that will “live forever in infamy.”

Vice President Mike Pence, the Senate’s presiding officer, said, “To those who wreaked havoc in our Capitol today, you did not win.”

Multiple GOP senators who had planned to object to Biden’s win reversed course after the day’s violence, including Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, who lost her Senate race on Wednesday.

U.S. Sen. Lindsay Graham, a longtime Trump ally, called it a “uniquely bad idea to delay this election” adding, “count me out.”

U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney said those who rejected the results “will forever be seen as being complicit in an unprecedented attack against our democracy.”

Both chambers had been debating a Republican-led challenge to Arizona’s results when the violent mob breached the Capitol. That challenge was quickly rejected once lawmakers reconvened.

House members then challenged the results in several states, including Georgia, that did not receive Senate support. But a joint challenge of Pennsylvania’s results triggered votes in both chambers. The Senate moved quickly to reject the challenge, while debate in the House stretched well past 2 a.m. before it was quashed.

Lawmakers ultimately finished their work before dawn Thursday, confirming Biden won the election.

Trump then pledged that there would be an “orderly transition” on Jan. 20.

“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20th,” Trump, who was locked out of his own Twitter account, said in the statement posted by his social media director.

The certification brings a long-awaited sense of finality to a presidential race that has roiled the nation long past Election Day and has now resulted in one of the most unprecedented days in American history.

The tumultuous day began before Congress initially convened at 1 p.m., when Trump told supporters in a rally near the White House that he would “never concede” the election and continued to put pressure on Pence to intervene on his behalf.

“If Mike Pence does the right thing, we win the election,” Trump said.

Pence rebuffed Trump’s pleas, writing in a letter that, “It is my considered judgment that my oath to support and defend the Constitution constrains me from claiming unilateral authority to determine which electoral votes should be counted and which should not.”

In response, Trump tweeted, “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done.”

The first objection to the Electoral College vote came mere minutes into the joint session, with a group of Republicans, led by U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, challenging the results from Arizona and forcing both chambers into debates that were soon disrupted by the rioters.

At the time, McConnell harshly condemned the efforts by Trump and his allies to overturn the election, saying they could send “our democracy into a death spiral.”

Kim Kardashian is Reportedly Suing the TikToker Who Started Those Kanye West/Jeffree Star Rumors!

Almost immediately after reports broke of an "imminent" divorce between Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, rumors started circulating regarding both of their private dating lives. Sources claim that the marriage has been over for months and both Kim and Kanye have already started seeing other people.

Speculations about Kim's new boo have focused on political figure Van Jones (??), while Twitter is convinced Kanye has a new flame as well–and that someone is Jeffree Freakin' Star.

*Pauses for spiraling.*

It all started with a TikTok that is now going viral on essentially every social media platform. Influencer Ava Louise is responsible for this tea, exposing the alleged relationship in the video.

"Now that Kim’s finally doing this, I feel like I can spill the tea that I’ve been holding onto for months," Ava said, over a screenshot of the divorce announcement. "This whole divorce comes as no surprise. Kanye’s been hooking up with a very famous beauty guru–male beauty guru. A lot of people in the scene have known for a while."

In the caption, Ava gave a few more hints as to who the alleged celeb is. "i can’t say WHO cuz he’ll sue me hint hint .... my source is legit I promiss," she wrote. Ava might have skipped out on the name drop, but Twitter was not so shy. "Kanye West" and "Jeffree Star" are both trending in the US.

This rumor seems totally out of the blue, but fans pointed out that geographically, at least, the scenario makes sense. Kanye has been living at his and Kim's Wyoming ranch for much of the past year, while they reportedly map out their divorce. Jeffree also moved to his mansion in Wyoming part-time back in August (though, some of that time was spent with his ex Andre Marhold). Before relocating to WY, Kanye and Jeffree both lived in Hidden Hills, an exclusive gated community next to Calabasas, CA.

I'm not done yet! Back in 2009, during his musical career, Jeffree released a song called "B*tch, Please!," packed with celeb name drops. At the moment, the most notable is this one, in which Jeffree sings: "sucked off Kanye West now I'm one of the bros."

Y'all, I am SWEATING. Seemingly in response to these rumors, Jeffree has entered the chat. The YouTuber posted on Instagram and Twitter, writing "I'm ready for Sunday Service." FYI: Sunday Service is the famous church service created and ran by Kanye West.

“At first, we thought we were going to have to do different things. Everybody was suggesting IVF because it wasn’t happening. This is a three-year journey we’ve been on.”

Barrino’s husband Taylor revealed after putting their faith in God and letting nature take its course, they received the news that they were having a baby.

“I strictly heard God tell me that He was gonna make this happen. I remember sittin’ in that office, and the doctor and my wife were going through all these scenarios. I remember saying ‘I just don’t feel like that’s our way. I’m telling you it’s gonna happen naturally,’ and I stood on that.”

Dr. Dre's House Targeted In Burglary Attempt A Day After He Was Admitted To Hospital, Police Say!

One day after he was admitted to the hospital for a brain aneurysm, music mogul Dr. Dre's hilltop Los Angeles home was the target of an attempted burglary, and four suspects were arrested, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

LAPD officer Lizeth Lomeli confirmed to NBC News that around 10 p.m. on Tuesday night, LAPD officers responded to a report of an attempted burglary in which suspects were seen "coming over a hill" near the 12700 block of Chalon Road in the hills above Brentwood.

After a "short pursuit," Lomeli said, four suspects were arrested. An investigation is ongoing.

A public trail runs to the immediate east of homes on this block, according to Google Maps, which shows hilltop mansions with large pools and tennis courts.

In 2014, the Los Angeles Times reported that Dre paid $40 million for a Brentwood mansion owned by Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen.

The attempted break-in happened shortly after the news of Dre's aneurysm was announced.

A spokesperson for Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Young, confirmed to NBC News that he was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Monday for treatment of a brain aneurysm.

Michael Jordan Awarded Over $46,000 In Lawsuit Against Chinese Sportswear Company!

Qiaodan, a sportswear and shoe manufacturer, has to pay Michael Jordan over $46,000 for using the Jordan name, emotional damage, and legal damage.

Qiaodan, which means Jordan in Chinese, has over 200 trademarks filed, all related to Jordan. Many of them were filed more than five years ago, making it difficult because trademarks can only be disputed in China within a five-year timeline. So, the court is unable to order them to stop using the name completely.

According to CBS Sports, Jordan has filed 80 lawsuits against the company. The Jordan brand believes that the company “had the intention of causing or allowing public confusion” and that using the number 23 and his sons’ names was to mislead customers. Qiaodan argues that the Jordan name is a common western surname.

Orange Is The New Black star Laverne Cox has partnered with Shonda Rhimes to debut her new podcast in February 2021. The Laverne Cox Show will be produced by Rhimes’ Shondaland Audio and iHeartMedia and feature “intimate” conversations with guests.

Speaking of her newest endeavor, Cox said, “I’m thrilled to be continuing and expanding my relationship with Shondaland by doing my first podcast with Shonda’s amazing team along with iHeartRadio. I can’t wait for everyone to hear the incredibly interesting conversations I have had with my guests.”

Some of Shondaland Audio and IHeartMedia’s other podcasts include You Down? with Obama’s Other Daughters, Ali Wentworth’s Go Ask Ali, Katie Lowes’ Katie’s Crib, historical true-crime series Criminalia and upcoming scripted shows #Matter and American Coup. A companion podcast for the upcoming show Bridgerton will also be unveiled next year.

“We all know her onscreen talents and her role as a producer, but this show affords Laverne the opportunity to produce something very personal,” said Sandie Bailey, Shondaland’s chief design and digital media officer. “She’s clearly interested in engaging her listeners and herself in ways she hasn’t before. And we’re committed to supporting her in doing just that.”

Cox will also be starring in Rhimes’ upcoming project Inventing Anna. The limited Netflix series is based on the New York Magazine article, “How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People” by Jessica Pressler.

“Delvey” was an alias used by a grifter from Russia pretending to be a German heiress who worked her way into the upper elite and swindled them for money.  “Laverne Cox is a one-of-a-kind talent, and we are so excited that our Shondaland Audio division provides us the opportunity to continue our relationship with her,” Bailey concluded.

Cox will play Kacy Duke, a real-life celebrity trainer and life coach, in the upcoming Netflix series.

Ian McKellen: ‘So Happy’ Former ‘X-Men’ Co-Star Elliot Page Came Out as Transgender!

Sir Ian McKellen, one of the most influential openly gay actors in Hollywood, is supporting his former “X-Men” co-star Elliot Page after Page came out as transgender in December.

In a conversation with Attitude Magazine, McKellen said that in his experience as an actor who’s been openly gay since the 1980s, “Everything gets better [when you come out because you get self-confidence]. You get better in terms of relationships, friends of all sorts, family, if you’re lucky. And in my case, I think in every case, your acting is bound to change and improve.”

McKellen and Page met on the set of “X-Men: The Last Stand,” which debuted in theaters in 2006 and saw McKellen reprising his role as the super villain Magneto. Page joined that film as Kitty Pryde (also known as Shadowcat), and continued the role in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

McKellen told Attitude that when he first started working with Page, it was difficult for him to hear Page’s remarks in between take, and had to ask the younger actor to speak up.

“I remember Elliot Page, in one of the ‘X-Men’ [movies], sat as close as we are now. And I had to speak when they’d finished, and I couldn’t hear what they were saying. Nobody could hear what they were saying. So, I said, ‘Look, if you can’t speak up, would you mind when you’re finished speaking, just dropping your hand so I know when you’ve finished speaking?'”

McKellen went on to say that it now occurs to him that Page might have intentionally been hiding himself or having a difficult time communicating because of his yet-to-be-public queer and transgender identity. “Then they came out [as gay] years later and suddenly you couldn’t stop them talking. You heard everything,” McKellen said, referencing Page’s speech at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Time to THRIVE conference in February 2014.

As one of the U.K.’s (and the globe’s) most well-known gay actors and an outspoken advocate for queer and transgender rights, McKellen said he was disapointed in himself that he didn’t recognize Page’s struggles on set sooner and help him on his journey to coming out. McKellen, who came out as gay in 1988 after then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher passed a controversial law that prohibited the U.K.’s councils from funding art that showed same-sex relationships and forbade teachers from informing students about LGBTQ topics in schools. The legislation was rescinded in 2003, but McKellen was one of the first of the U.K.’s acting stars to vehemently oppose the issue.

McKellen said he’s glad that Page is now fully out as transgender.

“Now… they’re Elliot. And I’m so happy for Elliot, and so disappointed in myself that I didn’t detect what their difficulty was with communicating,” McKellen said.

Chris Rock Opens Up About Therapy, His Plans To Get COVID-19 Vaccine In Gayle King Interview!

Chris Rock has spent his time in quarantine reflecting on his past through therapy, he revealed.

Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning's Gayle King in a new interview, the 55-year-old comedian said he is in a "happy" and "optimistic place" now, now going to about seven hours of therapy sessions a week.

"You have to tell the truth," Rock said. "Sometimes I wasn't kind, and sometimes I wasn't listening. Sometimes I was selfish. And ultimately, who do you want to be? On the outside, it looks like I'm this daring person, but, boy, can I play it safe. I need to jump in the pool a little bit."

Rock had been to therapy before, but he didn't "really jump into it" until the pandemic hit. He says he still feels damage from the bullying he suffered as a child growing up in Brooklyn, but he has forgiven those who were unkind and acknowledges that the experiences "made me who I am" and hopes his bullies have become better people.

"People get better and people change," he said. "Right now, we're going through this thing where we're punishing people for thinking and feeling and saying things 20, 30 years ago. Do you know how easy it would be for me in one of my specials to name a name, or show a picture of someone and say, 'This person called me (expletive)' and ruin someone's life? ... I'm going to hope that what they did to me shames them in some way and they teach their kids better. That's my wish for them."

In his upcoming Netflix special, an extended cut of his 2018 stand-up special "Tambourine," Rock includes a bit about how law enforcement is a profession that "can't have any bad apples," like pilots. Speaking to King, he opened up about his own experiences with police officers.

"Some jobs, you have to be totally accountable," he said. "You have to have a zero tolerance for any shenanigans. Most of my dealings with the police are good. But ... a couple years ago there was a cop who was like: 'What are you driving around here for? You don't live around here, do you?' And I'm looking at him like, 'You don't live around here.' "

King noted that some members of the Black community felt "trepidation" about getting the COVID-19 vaccine. Rock said he "can't wait" until he is able to get one.

"Let me put it this way: Do I take Tylenol when I get a headache? Yes," he said. "Do I know what's in Tylenol? I don't know what's in Tylenol, Gayle. I just know my headache's gone. Do I know what's in a Big Mac, Gayle? No. I just know it's delicious."

Katie Couric Will Guest Host 'Jeopardy!' After The Final Alex Trebek Episodes Air!

Longtime network news star Katie Couric has been signed to take over the hosting reins of "Jeopardy!" for a week, according to several people familiar with the plan.

Couric will be among the first guest hosts to helm the iconic game show after the final episodes with long-running emcee Alex Trebek air this week. Trebek, who died Nov. 8 after battling pancreatic cancer, taped the programs in October.

Couric declined to comment when asked about the booking or and whether she is interested in being Trebek's successor on a full-time basis. A representative for Sony Pictures Television, which produces "Jeopardy!," also declined to comment.

The producers of "Jeopardy!" have previously stated their plans to have guest hosts after the final Trebek episodes air until a permanent replacement is chosen. "Jeopardy!" champion Ken Jennings, who has an overall deal with Sony, has also been booked to handle the program. Episodes with Jennings as host are scheduled to air starting Jan. 11.

It's likely that the guest host stints will play a role in determining who will succeed Trebek, who fronted the syndicated version of the program since its launch in 1984.

Couric, 63, is one of television's best known personalities, thanks to her massively successful run as co-anchor of NBC's morning news franchise "Today." The program was No. 1 in the ratings during most of her run from 1991 to 2006.

She went on to spend five years as anchor of "CBS Evening News." She hosted a syndicated talk show for the Walt Disney Co. and worked as a correspondent for ABC News.

In recent years, Couric has run her own media company that produces documentary films, podcasts and a daily newsletter.
