The Daily Buzz For May 7 ☕📰☕

Tracee Ellis Ross for Porter - 4th May 2020!
Tracee Ellis Ross wants the world to know that finding true happiness doesn’t come from being in a relationship or having kids, it comes from within.

The "Black-ish" actress has spoken out before -- most famously at the "Glamour" Women of the Year Summit in 2017 -- about being a woman in her 40s without children and learning to live for one’s self as opposed to what others want for you.
"I wish I had known there were other choices, not just about how I could be living, but how I could feel about the way my life was," Ross, now 47, told "Porter."
Ross, who stars in the upcoming film "The High Note," pointed out how we are conditioned from an early age to aspire to get married and procreate, but that there are other things worth hungering for.

"I was raised by society to dream of my wedding, but I wish I had been dreaming of my life," Ross said. "There are so many ways to curate happiness, find love and create a family, and we don’t talk about them. It creates so much shame and judgement."
Just because Ross is enjoying what life has to offer by herself -- being a successful actress, director, producer, businesswoman and fashionista -- doesn’t mean there isn’t a yearning for a partner to experience life with.
"People misinterpret being happily single as not wanting to be in a relationship," she explained.
"Of course I want to be in a relationship, but what am I going to do?" Ross reasoned. "Spend all the time that I’m not [in one] moping around? No. I’m going to live my life to the fullest and I’m going to be happy right here, where I am."

#RHOA: Porsha Williams Reveals The Real Reason Why Dennis McKinley Cheated!
Porsha Williams and Dennis McKinley’s up and down relationship has played out the last couple seasons of Real Housewives of Atlanta. The biggest scandal was McKinley cheating on Williams. Now, Porsha reveals why.
On an after show segment of the reality series, Porsha said the couple had a break through when going to counseling, “I think going to counseling, everybody thinks of,  ‘Oh, you broke up, you got to go to counseling to get back together. So, I think initially that’s what he thought.”
According to Porsha, Dennis soon realized counseling was serious emotional work and could be a benefit to their relationship.

Additionally, she also got some answers about his cheating.
“When he told he cheated because of postpartum depression, I took it and it rolled right off my back because, first of all, we still had sex and he was my biggest support system while I was going through it,” Porsha explained.
“I knew that wasn’t the whole reason of why he had stepped out… I think once we kept going to counseling, it came to, he did it because it was selfish and because that’s something he wanted to do.”

The current status of Dennis and Porsha’s relationship is not clear. However, that might be revealed on the virtual reunion of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, which airs Sunday, May 10 at 8 p.m. on Bravo.

#HipHopNews: Lil Nas X Is Officially A Nicki Minaj Stan, Comes Out As A Barb!
Nicki Minaj's Barbz should make room for one more as Lil Nas X has come forward about his fandom for the Queens-bred MC.
On Monday (May 4), the "Old Town Road" artist shared a revelation on Twitter. "Life is too short to pretend you’re not a barb," he wrote. The tweet comes a year after reports claimed that Nas X was running the Nicki fan account NasMaraj on Twitter.
According to a 2019 report from The New Yorker, Nas X reportedly gained a six-figure following on the social media account by "trafficking in memes, viral threads, engagement bait and Nicki Minaj stanning."

Meanwhile, during an interview with NPR last April, Lil Nas X addressed theories linking him to the NasMaraj Twitter account, denouncing the rumors. "It's like a big misunderstanding and it's not one that I even want to give the time, because I'm never putting someone as the face of my career," he said. "So I don't even speak on it. I just don't even acknowledge it, really. I know even more things are being made up and they're gonna be out there. It is disappointing when a big blog will post something without me talking about it but, I mean, it happens."

Months later, during an interview with Hot 97 back in August, Lil Nas X attributed his knowledge of the internet as the reason he was able to successfully navigate through the music industry.
Billboard also issued a retraction after claiming that he was linked to the Twitter page.

Although it has not been confirmed who was operating the now-suspended account, what's known is that Lil Nas X is rooting for the First Lady of Young Money: Nicki Minaj.

Court Overturns Quincy Jones’ Win In Michael Jackson Lawsuit!
A California appeals court on Tuesday overturned most of a 2017 jury verdict awarding Quincy Jones $9.4 million in royalties and fees from the Michael Jackson estate over the use of Jones-produced Jackson hits in the concert film “This Is It” and two Cirque du Soleil shows.
The state’s 2nd District Court of Appeal ruled that the jury misinterpreted a contract that was the judge’s job to interpret anyway. It took away $6.9 million that jurors had said MJJ Productions owed Jones for his work on “Billie Jean,” “Thriller,” and more of Jackson’s biggest hits.
The appeals court found that the jury wrongly granted Jones money from licensing fees, wrongly went beyond the 10% royalty rate Jones was owed for record sales, and incorrectly granted Jones money for remixes of Jackson’s master recordings.

The court kept intact $2.5 million of the award, which Jones said he was owed for the use of his masters in “This Is It” and other fees.
The court also rejected a counter-appeal from the 87-year-old Jones arguing that the trial court should have allowed him to make a claim of financial elder abuse.
“While we disagree with portions of the Court’s decision and are evaluating our options going forward, we are pleased that the Court affirmed the jury’s determination that MJJP failed to pay Quincy Jones more than $2.5M that it owed him,” Jones’ attorney J. Michael Hennigan said in a statement.

Jones, who was already a music business giant when he produced the classic Jackson albums “Off the Wall,” “Thriller” and “Bad,” had sought $30 million from the estate when he first filed the lawsuit in 2013.
“Quincy Jones was the last person we thought would try to take advantage of Michael Jackson by filing a lawsuit three years after he died asking for tens of millions of dollars he wasn’t entitled to,” Jackson attorney Howard Weitzman said in a statement. “We knew the verdict was wrong when we heard it, and the court of appeal has completely vindicated us.”
On the stand during the trial, Jones was asked by Weitzman whether he realized he was essentially suing Jackson himself.

Jones angrily disagreed. “I’m not suing Michael,” he said. “I’m suing you all.”
The trial centered on the definitions of terms in the two contracts Jackson and Jones signed in 1978 and 1985.
Under the deals, for example, Jones is entitled to a share of net receipts from a “videoshow” of the songs. The Jackson attorneys argued that the term was meant to apply to music videos and not feature films like “This Is It.”
The film was created from rehearsal footage for a comeback tour that Jackson was working toward when he died in 2009 at age 50.

“So many people have tried to take advantage of Michael and mischaracterize him since his death,” Jackson estate co-executor John Branca said in a statement Tuesday. “It’s gratifying that in this case the court in an overwhelmingly favorable and just decision, recognizes that Michael Jackson was both an enormous talent and an extremely fair business executive.”

Georgia To Consider Charges In Killing Of Unarmed Black Jogger As Video Emerges!
A prosecutor in Georgia said on Tuesday he would ask a grand jury to decide if charges should be filed against a white former law enforcement officer and his son in the fatal shooting of an unarmed young black man as he ran through a small town.
The shooting of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery outside Brunswick, Georgia, in February was captured on videotape and posted on social media on Tuesday, stirring outrage over the reluctance of prosecutors to file charges against Gregory McMichael and his son, Travis.
The video footage, which was taken by an unidentified witness in another car, shows Arbery jogging down a narrow two-lane road and around a white pickup truck stopped in the right lane, its driver’s door open.

As Arbery crosses back in front of the truck a gunshot is fired. Arbery is then seen struggling with a man holding a long gun as a second man stands in the bed of the truck brandishing a revolver. Two more shots are heard before Arbery stumbles and falls face-down onto the asphalt.
The graphic footage has prompted an outcry and demands for justice; the activist Shaun King posted the video on Twitter, describing it as “one of the worst things I’ve seen in my entire life”.
Tom Durden, the acting district attorney for a neighboring district, said in a letter posted on Facebook that he believed “the case should be presented to the grand jury of Glynn county for consideration of criminal charges against those involved in the death of Mr Arbery”.

Durden, who was assigned to investigate the fatal shooting after prosecutors in Brunswick and a neighboring district recused themselves due to potential conflicts of interest, said he would present the case to the next available grand jury in Glynn county. That grand jury might not meet until mid-June or later because courts were under restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, he said.

According to a police report obtained by the New York Times, Gregory McMichael, a former police officer and district attorney’s investigator, told investigators the incident began when he spotted Arbery from his front yard “hauling ass” down the street.
McMichael told police that, because he suspected Arbery in a string of recent neighborhood break-ins, he summoned his son and the two men gave chase in the truck, Gregory McMichael carrying a .357 Magnum revolver and Travis armed with a shotgun.
Gregory McMichael said Arbery began to “violently attack” his son and fought over the shotgun, prompting Travis to open fire. It is not clear from the police report or the videotape if Gregory McMichael also fired on Arbery.

According to a letter obtained by the Times, the prosecutor in Brunswick argued there was not probable cause to arrest the McMichaels because they were legally carrying firearms, had a right to pursue a burglary suspect and use deadly force to protect themselves.

In a statement to the New York Times, a lawyer for Arbery’s family said the video clearly showed a criminal act. “This is murder,” said S Lee Merritt. “The series of events captured in this video confirm what all the evidence indicated prior to its release.”
Andrea Young, the executive director of the ACLU of Georgia, compared the killing to that of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed black teenager who was shot in 2012 by a neighborhood watch leader.

“The vigilante behavior that we saw in Brunswick is unacceptable in a civilized society. We call on the officials in Brunswick to enforce the rule of law so that it can be safe for citizens to walk the streets,” said Young. “Ahmaud was killed three days before the anniversary of the 2012 killing of Trayvon Martin. Both incidents are a reminder that white supremacy has been a foundation for our country and leads repeatedly to the targeting and harming people of color, particularly African Americans.”

Congratulations! Tony Rock Welcomes His First Child—See The Photo Of His Adorable Newborn Son!
Tony Rock just announced the birth of his first child—a beautiful baby boy!
On Monday (May 4), the 45-year-old comedian made the official announcement on social media with an adorable photo of his new arrival.
“I've been so incredibly overwhelmed with emotions I couldn't find the words,” Tony captioned the Instagram photo, choosing to keep the name of his child’s private. “One of my favorite scriptures will be more than sufficient.”
Left speechless, the proud father went on to share his endearing Bible verse below:
"He that loveth his Son causeth him oft to feel the rod, that he may have joy of him in the end. He that chastiseth his Son shall have joy in him, and shall rejoice of him among his acquaintances. He that teacheth his Son grieveth the enemy: and before his friends he shall rejoice of him.
Though his Father die, yet he is as though he were not dead: for he hath left one behind him that is like himself.
While he lived, he saw and rejoiced in him: and when he died, he was not sorrowful.

For he left behind him an avenger against his enemies, and one that shall requite kindness to his friends."
Tony, who is the younger brother of comedian Chris Rock, also chose to keep the identity of the mother of his child anonymous.

Join us in welcoming Tony to the wonderful world of fatherhood!

3 Charged In Murder Of Family Dollar Security Guard Over Face Mask Dispute!
Three people are charged with the murder of a Family Dollar security guard in Flint, Michigan, who was enforcing the store's policy requiring face masks.
Two men remain at large while a woman has been arrested and is awaiting arraignment in jail.
The male suspects are 44-year-old Larry Edward Teague and 23-year-old Ramonyea Bishop. Teague's wife and Bishop's mother, 45-year-old Sharmel Teague, has been arrested.

All three suspects are facing a charge of first-degree premeditated murder, which carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole if they are convicted.
Larry Teague and Bishop also are facing several weapons charges while Teague faces an additional charge of violating Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's order to wear face coverings in enclosed public spaces.
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said Sharmel Teague and her daughter went in the Family Dollar at 877 E. Fifth St. in Flint around 1:40 p.m. Friday. Teague was wearing a mask, but her daughter was not.
While inside, security guard Calvin Munerlyn confronted the daughter about not wearing a face mask.Whitmer issued an order in April requiring everyone entering an enclosed space to wear a face mask or covering over their nose and mouth to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Family Dollar has adopted that as a store policy for customers.

Sharmel Teague and Munerlyn got into an argument about the policy. Leyton said Sharmel Teague spit at Munerlyn, who then ordered her to leave the store and told the cashier to refuse service to her.
Surveillance video showed Teague and her daughter leaving the store in a red GMC Envoy and enter the nearby River Village Apartments complex. Minutes later, cell phone records show Sharmel Teague made a phone call to Larry Teague, Leyton said.
About 20 minutes after Sharmel and her daughter left the store, Leyton said Larry Teague and Bishop drove the same GMC Envoy back to the store.

Leyton said surveillance video shows Larry Teague and Bishop enter the store and start an argument with Munerlyn. Witnesses reported hearing the suspects ask Munerlyn who had disrespected his wife.

During the altercation, Leyton said Bishop pulled out a handgun and shot 43-year-old Munerlyn in the head. He was rushed to Hurley Medical Center, where he died later Friday.
Larry Teague and Bishop remained at large on Monday. Anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL.
A $1,000 reward is available for information leading to their arrests. Both suspects should be considered armed and dangerous, Leyton said.
“We’re confident that we’ll get them,” he said.

Genesee County Commissioner Bryant Nolden, who is executive director of the Berson Field House in Flint, said Munerlyn was active and beloved at the facility. He called the murder "extremely senseless."

"He didn’t bother a soul," Nolden said of Munerlyn. "All he did was provide for his family."

The Internet Is Dragging Tyra Banks For Her Problematic 'ANTM' Behavior!
Thanks to the global pandemic, people have had the free time to re-watch the reality series, which premiered in 2003, and let's just say, it doesn't have the same charm for some. Well, more specifically Tyra Banks' presence, commentary, and even her photoshoot ideas aren't sitting well for a lot of people.
See, the Internet is not too happy with the show's creator/head judge's problematic behavior as viewers have shared a number of clips showing her alleged mistreatment of the contestants.

One particular moment that has gone viral is when Tyra pressured Cycle 6 contestant Danielle Evans to get dental surgery to have her gap closed despite Danielle's wish to keep her gap. "Do you really think you can have a Cover Girl contract with a gap in your mouth?" Tyra asked.
Unfortunately, the problematic behavior doesn't end there. In addition to being accused of policing/not sticking up for the black contestants, her photoshoot ideas are also being slammed.

In one season she asked the contestants to do a "bi-racial" photoshoot that literally put contestants in blackface. In another cringeworthy shoot, she had a contestant model in a graveyard the day after she was told her best friend had passed away. (And that's just a few of the uncomfortable moments)

While some have defended Tyra on the basis that the show was reflective of the fashion industry at the time, others do not believe that is a good enough excuse.

Katy Perry Shares a Photo of the Madonna-Inspired Look She Would Have Worn to the Met Gala!
To celebrate what would have been Met Gala Monday, Katy Perry gave fans a sneak peek at the ensemble that she was planning to wear to fashion's biggest night out—and, it was going to pay homage to Madonna.
Taking to Instagram, the mom-to-be shared a picture of the corset that Jean Paul Gaultier had made for her 2020 Met Gala outfit, which featured a nod to the French designer's signature cone silhouette.
"what would have been... #TheMetBall2020," she wrote on Instagram, adding a broken heart emoji.
With the theme of this year's Met Gala set to be "About Time: Fashion and Duration," Perry's outfit was a tribute to the timelessness of the iconic creation that Madonna famously donned back in the ‘90s during her Blond Ambition World Tour. Unlike the "Material Girl" singer's original cone bra, Perry's Met Gala outfit was designed to accentuate her growing baby bump.
Gaultier created the cone bra back in 1983 and it has become one of his most famous designs. Inspired by 1950s bullet bras, the controversial corset first made its debut on the runway before finding its way to Madonna's tour wardrobe.
Kicking off her Blonde Ambition Tour in style, she wore the pink cone bra corset for the first stop in Chiba, Japan, creating one of her well-known looks. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait some time before we can see Perry's take on the cone bra.
In March, The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced that the Met Gala will be postponed indefinitely in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. "Due to the unavoidable and responsible decision by the Metropolitan Museum to close its doors, About Time, and the opening night gala, will not take place on the date scheduled," Anna Wintour said. "In the meantime, we will give you a preview of this extraordinary exhibition in our forthcoming May issue."

Stars like Julia Roberts, Mindy Kaling, Amanda Seyfried and more got glammed up in their finest attire on social media to celebrate the first Monday of May.
