#RIP: Ellis Marsalis Jr., legendary New Orleans musician and patriarch of First Family of Jazz, dies At 85!
Legendary New Orleans musician Ellis Marsalis Jr. has died.
One of his sons, Ellis Marsalis III, confirmed to The Associated Press that Ellis Marsalis Jr., the patriarch of a New Orleans clan that included his famed musician sons, died after battling pneumonia brought on by COVID-19.
Ellis Marsalis III said he drove from Baltimore on Sunday to be with his father as he was hospitalized. He said others in the family also were able to spend time with their father, The Associated Press reported.
The noted jazz pianist and educator is the father of internationally known musicians Branford and Wynton Marsalis. Ellis Marsalis Jr. was 85.

When one thinks about jazz in New Orleans, it doesn't take long for Ellis Marsalis' name to come to mind.
The Louisiana Music Hall-of-Famer was born in the Crescent City in 1934 and was a bit different for his era -- Dixieland and Rhythm & Blues were the norm for musicians. But Marsalis was all about jazz -- playing it and teaching it.

His pupils included the likes of Terence Blanchard and Harry Connick, Jr.
Marsalis had six sons, including Wynton and Branford.
Wynton has won nine Grammy awards. Branford was the musical director of the Tonight Show with Jay Leno in the mid-1990s. Delfeayo and Jason are also jazz musicians. Ellis III is a poet and photographer.

But before his sons became famous in their own right, Ellis Marsalis paved the way. He started young, studying at the Xavier Junior School of Music and took up the clarinet at 11 years old.
In 1949, at age 13, he played the tenor saxophone in his first professional gig with the Groovy Boys.
He majored in music at Dillard University and began studying piano after graduation. In 1956, after joining the U.S. Marines, Marsalis played piano in the Marine group "Corps Four," which performed weekly on TV in Los Angeles.
He returned to New Orleans in 1958 and got married. Then in 1962, he got his first six-night-a-week job at the New Orleans Playboy Club. It only lasted three months, but it was a steady job.

Five years later, Marsalis joined the Al Hirt band, then, in 1971, became the pianist for Southern Repertory Theater. Following graduate school at Loyola University, he worked at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts.
Years later -- in 2001 -- he performed at a concert at the University of New Orleans with his sons celebrating his well-deserved retirement.
Tulane University awarded Marsalis an honorary doctorate in 2007 for his contributions to jazz and musical education.

At Musician's Village in the 9th Ward, which was built after Hurricane Katrina, the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music was established in 2011. The performance, education and recording venue is a 17,000 square foot facility that includes a 170-seat performance space along with state of the art light and sound -- a tangible reminder of what Marsalis meant to the city.

One of the musical families that New Orleans is built around has lost its patriarch. But the name he spent years building is synonymous with jazz in New Orleans. And that will never change.

The Masked Singer Unmasks the White Tiger And It Is????????
Another singer has been unmasked.  The Masked Singer just said goodbye to the White Tiger and hello to Rob Gronkowski, the former Patriots tight end who just wanted to show off his unique dance moves on stage.
"I've always loved dancing, and my dance moves were always one of a kind, and I always felt like I was never on rhythm, so when I got asked to do The Masked Singer, I knew I was in," he said. "I wanted to do it. I wanted to learn how to sing and also I really wanted to learn how to dance."

Apparently his former teammates knew it immediately.  "One or two of my teammates did contact me like, 'dude, that is definitely you. I know your moves.' Like, 'Dawg, I've seen those moves in the locker room plenty of times,'" he said.
I'm like, what do you mean? They're new and improved."
He also explained that one of his clues was a cow skiing, which referred to his last name: Gron-cow-ski.
White Tiger was the first singer to leave the Super Nine, and next week, the top eight will participate in the smackdown round.

THE WHITE TIGER: ROB GRONKOWSKI
It's official: The White Tiger cannot sing, and he can only sort of rap. He's clearly huge and likely an athlete, and is a "clam shucking" champion, which makes you think of New England. He loves a celebration dance.

Jamie Foxx guessed Rob Gronkowski and the panelists continued that guess in week two. Gronk is from upstate NY, he's a football champ, and "Ice Ice Baby"  and "I'm Too Sexy" seems exactly like songs he'd sing.

Ari Lennox Claps Back At Snoop Dogg After His Comment About Her Wig!
The Internet is in a furor after Snoop Dogg stepped into The Shade Room’s comment section on none other than Shea Butter Baby royalty, Ari Lennox.

Since her emergence, Dreamville’s resident R&B songstress has become known for her comedic Instagram videos. Recently, the “BMO” songbird documented herself trying out a lacefront wig. In the video, Ari hilariously narrated along as she struggled to lay the wig down properly before realizing it was all for naught because she didn’t have a wig cap. Snoop happened to stumble across Ari’s hair struggles via The Shade Room. “Grow your own hair,” he wrote on the post. “What happened to those days?”
Condemnation swiftly rolled in once the Twitterverse caught wind of his comment. As many users pointed out, Ari has always proudly wore her hair in its natural state. Furthermore, Snoop’s comment came after she came to the West rap icon’s defense in the midst of all the backlash he was facing for disparaging Gayle King over her controversial interview with Lisa Leslie about the late Kobe Bryant.
Ari came back at Snoop with the perfect clapback with a photo of Snoop from his wiggier days. In the photo, he’s seen donning a blonde bob-style piece. “Uncle I just...I just thought we had an understanding,” she captioned the post.

The Twitterverse also has her back. “This is how you know Snoop don’t even KNOW who Ari Lennox is, cuz Ari has a WHOLE AFRO of natural hair. She’s prolly worn wigs 3x TOPS,” one user pointed out. “Defending a man who wouldn’t even keep scrolling for you.”

Chuck D Confesses That Flavor Flav Firing Was “A Hoax”!
Public Enemy doesn’t want you to believe the hype. Chuck D says that last month’s odd firing of hype man Flavor Fav was just a hoax.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In an interview with Talib Kweli on the Uproxx podcast People’s Party, the legendary rapper admitted the firing was apart of “April ‘FlavChuck’ Day,” a publicity stunt to promote a new album from a PE side group, “Enemy Radio.” All would’ve been revealed during the group’s Coachella performance, but the festival has since been postponed due to the coronavirus.

”We felt that over the past few years, Flavor’s stock was low,” Chuck said in the interview recorded on March 10. “Anybody that could take a shot at him could get a good shot at him.”
”COVID smashed the date, not the day,” Chuck D wrote on Twitter of the hoax, “On April 1, this is OVER & WE bigger than Coachella.”
The fake feud was supposedly sparked because Flav objected to the band’s performance at a Bernie Sanders political rally without his permission. Chuck D responded by announcing that the band would be “moving forward without Flavor Flav.”

”We already talked about this beforehand. Public Enemy Radio went up [at the Bernie Sanders rally]. His lawyer sent out a cease and desist. I’m like, “Good move.” Then, publicly: “Man, you don’t fuckin’ sue me again.” He ain’t suin’ me. But I can say it! If the public is confused about this, that, whatever—they’re gonna be confused about what’s a lawsuit and what’s not. “Yo, man, you suing me again publicly? Boom. Fuck that. You’re fired, dude. This is my last thing with you.” OK. We knew what was gonna come. I’m not sayin’ it’s a hoax; I’m sayin’ that the original intention is to get your attention and not pay attention, but get you to pay attention,” Chuck D explained.
On the Enemyradio.com website, launched to promote an upcoming album, Chuck D, the leader of the legendary rap group, discussed the stunt further, claiming it was just “crazy sht” to “wake people up.”

“Thus came the HOAX. A wake-up call,” Chuck wrote, explaining that the inspiration came from Orson Welles’ 1938 radio hoax, “War Of The Worlds,” which had “pulled the wool over the public’s eyes as they put 100% belief in the technology of radio.”
Though the group now says the hoax was meant to align with the album release, Chuck made it clear that it was all part of a bigger message about Hip Hop getting a ”bad look.”

”So it’s April 1, 2020, and as we hoard food and empty store shelves, Chuck D and Flavor Flav hijack it as April ‘FlavChuck’ Day to end the HOAX with Enemy Radio’s new song, ‘FOOD AS A MACHINE GUN.’ ‘Don’t Believe The Hype’ 2020 style. That’s right, this is Enemy Radio featuring Public Enemy, with more around the corner: Enemy Radio’s debut album, ‘LOUD IS NOT ENOUGH,’ is here.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Chuck also confirmed Flav couldn’t be removed from the group. ”He can’t, he’s a partner. You can’t fire partners. You just walk away from ’em,” he said, adding, “There’s a select few that do know—that I had to let know—that me and Flav have been better than ever.”

Lil Nas X made headlines this past summer, not just for his massive hit “Old Town Road” with Billy Ray Cyrus, but also for coming out as gay.

But just after midnight on April Fools’ Day, the rapper tried to pull a fast one on fans, tweeting, “i was never gay. i said it to build up fuel for aprils fools day. ha got u guys.”
The 20-year-old performer, who won two Grammys in January, then exchanged some cheerful banter with rapper Ka5sh, who called Lil Nas X brave for “coming out as straight.”

Lil Nas X, who topped the Billboard Hot 100 for an unprecedented 19 weeks, replied, “It’s hard but somebody has to take a stand and lead the others[sic] straight people afraid to be themselves.”
Still, Lil Nas X couldn’t keep a straight face (so to speak) for long. Just 13 minutes after his original post, he said, “ok i’m gay again,” which prompted the reply “Welcome back” from out gay “Bloom” singer Troye Sivan.
Lil Nas X’s April Fools’ Day prank was more fun than the one by K-pop star Jaejoong, who jokingly claimed to have the coronavirus in an Instagram post. The tone-deaf joke backfired and the member of Korean pop band JYJ apologized within an hour.

Lil Nas X, who has 4.3 million followers on Twitter, turns 21 on April 9 and has also been tweeting about celebrating his birthday in quarantine.
