Lizzo, Cover ELLE’s Women in Music Issue!
Lizzo covers ELLE’s Women in Women in Music October issue, on newsstands 9/24. She is one the rule-breaking, genre-busting woman in music—are here to cut through the noise. Lizzo reflects on taking self-love seriously. Photographed by Yvan Fabing and styled by Anna Trevelyan.
Reflecting on her early music days in Minnesota: “I miss those days. Not just when Prince was physically with us, but how it felt to be young and excited about music, and life, and not knowing what was next, and not having money but manifesting our dreams. There’s a spirit of adventure that I took away from that—to never let life and music not feel adventurous, and to always push yourself and believe in the magic you’re creating.”

On the inspiration for her songs: “My songs feel happy, but they come from a sad or frustrated place,” she says. “My songs are always the silver lining or the ‘somewhere over the rainbow’ moments.” That’s especially true of “Soulmate,” “Truth Hurts,” and “Crybaby,” all three of which she either wrote or recorded through tears. “Those songs are actual anecdotes, like real stories about real moments in time. ‘Pull this car over, babe’—that is something that happened to me. ‘New man on the Minnesota Vikings’—that happened to me. ‘Old me used to love a Gemini’—that happened!”
On how learning how to communicate her feelings has been “revolutionary” in her life: “You realize that people truly care about you and they’ll help you, and they don’t mind helping you.” Now when she feels down, she tells someone (or a lot of someones). “Being in those places is inevitable for me; I’m going to end up there again,” she adds. “But the fact that I’m prepared now to go to those places—and I have a toolbox, and I know I can pull myself out—is really helpful to me in my mental health journey.”
On taking self-love seriously: “I take self-love very seriously. And I take it seriously because when I was younger, I wanted to change everything about myself,” she says. “I didn’t love who I was. And the reason I didn’t love who I was is because I was told I wasn’t lovable by the media, by [people at] school, by not seeing myself in beauty ads, by not seeing myself in television…by lack of representation. My self-hatred got so bad that I was fantasizing about being other people. But you can’t live your life trying to be somebody else. What’s the point?”

#HipHopNews: 50 Cent Doesn’t Want Nicki Minaj To Retire
The Barbz aren’t the only ones unhappy about Nicki Minaj’s retirement.
50 Cent has weighed in on the rapper’s surprise announcement. Taking to Instagram, the “Power” producer posted a photo of Nicki and her boyfriend Kenneth Petty. “Both these ni**as crazy, but you know you gotta love it SOUTH SIDE,” wrote 50.

And while he can be brash with his controversial commentary, he said he’s not ready to see Nicki hang up the mic. However, he does think she should take a break. “I don’t want @nickiminaj to retire just take a break,” he added.
Nicki blindsided her fans and her team with her big announcement. She had reportedly been in the studio working on new music in recent weeks and made plans to record with several artists in the last few days. Those close to her believe she’s just taking a break from the haters and just needs time to reevaluate.

She apologized to her fans for the “abrupt and insensitive” way she announced the news and promised to continue the discussion on a future episode of Queen Radio.
“I’m still right here. Still madly in love with you guys & you know that,” she tweeted. “In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”

The Queen rapper plans to get married and start a family. In July, she and Petty took a trip to the Beverly Hills Courthouse to get their marriage license. “I’m not saying I’m pregnant. That’s the end goal,” she said.

It makes no sense to rush it, but I want it out. I’ve gotten to the point where I’m like, ‘Even if I don’t have the time to shoot videos, I’m going to put an album out.’”

Woman Whose Story Inspired Jennifer Lopez’s “Hustlers” Movie Wants To Sue the Makers
Will the woman whose story allegedly inspired Jennifer Lopez‘s latest movie, “Hustlers,” hustle her way into getting paid from it? Samantha “Foxx” Barbash – a former strip club hostess – says the movie, which features starlets Cardi B and Lizzo, is inspired by her true story of rounding up a crew of strippers who secretly made big bucks from industry big wigs. The 45-year-old is currently on probation after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy and assault, stemming from the antics that “Hustlers'” producers never secured the rights to. Samantha’s lawyer, Bruno Gioffre, says that she’s considering suing the makers of the movie:

“The movie is based on court records from the trial and a New York magazine interview of one of the co-defendants in the case against dancers at Scores. Although Samantha wasn’t a dancer at that time, we believe the movie and Jennifer Lopez’s character is based on her. We plan on seeing the movie before deciding on what steps to take.”

Meanwhile, critics are commenting that Jennifer Lopez’s character in “Hustlers” is so moving that she should be tipped for an Oscar nomination this year. She posted the news to her Instagram Story with the following caption:“ALL THE FEELS”
Samantha Barabsh offered detailed a riveting rendezvous with unnamed famous clients, providing proof that the woman J. Lo will be portraying is identical to her story. Samantha said:

“My clients were mostly VIP clients at Scores and Hustler. My job was to provide the fun parts, such as the girls and setting the vibe. I would arrange for the hottest girls to come to parties. These girls made top dollar and had to have perfect bodies with beautiful faces to match. Then came the ‘fluffers’. These were the lower tier of girls who would do the ‘dirty work.’ Sometimes their tasks would include an array of sexual activity. These parties always came with huge payouts for me and the girls.”

She noted a time when a male R&B singer hosted her entire crew for a secret hotel night-cap:
“There was one night at Hustler where a well-known R&B singer who had a volatile reputation was partying all night in a private room. He wanted to continue the party in his hotel room, so he requested the host to invite all of us to come over. He said he would pay each girl an extra $8K. When we arrived at his five-star hotel suite, his security promptly took all of our phones and made us sign nondisclosure forms. They wanted to make sure that none of the wild partying, which included a lot of drugs, would be leaked to the media.”

She continued:
“He was so paranoid that there was no sex involved. Even the fluffers did not need to do anything. All he wanted to do was dance with the girls and do mounds of cocaine with all the naked bodies surrounding him. After an hour and a half, he started acting beyond strange, and kept looking out the windows and under the doors constantly from the paranoia of all the drugs he ingested. Once he saw that I was leaving, he said, ‘Please don’t go. I’m sorry. I’m f*cked up. I like your company.’ He handed me a huge tip and his personal phone number and we’ve been friends ever since.”

She detailed another huge payout from an alleged Wall Street broker:
“[He] and I left around 5 a.m., after he spent about $115,000. This wasn’t a big deal because it was considered a small amount of money. The usual top girls I worked with came along. [We] got into a luxury SUV supplied by the club and went to Christian Louboutin on Horatio Street. I called ahead and asked them to open the store for me around 6 a.m. The manager said he would open the store, but we would have to spend a minimum of $30K. I told him, ‘Easy, no problem!’ and that we would most likely spend close to $80K. We spent almost exactly [that] amount in less than an hour. We all got an insane amount of shoes and purses! It was every girl’s dream…The Pennsylvania client didn’t care about the money and loved the way we shopped so much that he said, ‘Let’s do it again tomorrow!’ The next day we picked him up from the Wall Street power player restaurant, Smith and Wollensky and went straight to the high-end jewelry store Tourneau, where he bought two Rolex Presidential watches for me.”

Samantha Barabsh is releasing her own book called, “Underscore,” coyly nicknamed after her home club, Score. It will include stories like the previous ones about high profile clients and her experiences with them. The book is due later this month.

“Hustlers” premieres in theaters nationwide this Friday, September 13th.

Tracee Ellis Ross Gets Support from her Family at Pattern Beauty Launch Party!
Tracee Ellis Ross got nothing but support at the launch of her brand Pattern Beauty line held on (September 8) at a private location in Los Angeles.
The Golden Globe-winning actress got support from her siblings Evan Ross and his wife Ashlee Simpson, brother Ross Naess and his wife Kimberly Ryan, as well as pregnant sister Chudney Ross and her husband Joshua Faulkner at the event.

Also in attendance to show their support were Lena Waithe, A Black Lady Sketch Show star Robin Thede, Pose‘s MJ Rodriguez and Tracee’s Mixed-ish stars Arica Himmel, Mykal-Michelle Harris and Ethan Childress.
Patten was 10 years in the making,” Tracee Ellis Ross told Marie Claire about the hairline. “I wrote my first brand pitch in 2008 when Girlfriends finished. It’s taken me that long because the gatekeepers and decision-makers of the beauty world did not understand the magnitude, importance, beauty, breath, and consumer dollars of the curl community. They wondered why anyone would want products from me. The pitch and hair products I wanted to create then are the same now. The difference is now I apparently have credibility. This is made from the heart of a woman who is honored to be a part of this community. This is 20 years of dreaming, digging in my hair, and thinking about what I was longing for.”

Earlier in the week, Tracee Ellis Ross stopped by The Daily Show with Trevor Noah to promote her Pattern Beauty launch.

Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, files for divorce over 'incompatibility of temperament'
Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, filed for divorce from the former vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor citing “incompatibility of temperament between the parties such that they find it impossible to live together as husband and wife."

Todd Palin, 55, asked to dissolve the couple's 31-year marriage in a filing submitted Friday in Anchorage Superior Court. The filing, first reported by the Anchorage Daily News, only uses initials but details the couple’s marriage date and the birth date of their 11-year-old son Trig.
The two have been married since 1988 and have five children: Track, Trig, Bristol, Willow and Piper. Todd Palin's filing asks for shared custody of Trig, who has Down Syndrome.

Sarah Palin, also 55, was elected governor of Alaska in 2006 and resigned in 2009, before the end of her four-year term. She also served as the late Sen. John McCain's running mate in the 2008 presidential election, ultimately losing the election to Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
Todd Palin, unlike his famous political wife, has largely steered clear of headline since she burst on the national scene during 2008 presidential election cycle.
He was in a snowmobile accident in 2016, in which he suffered broken and fractured ribs and a collapsed lung, a broken shoulder blade, a broken clavicle, and leg injuries. It was one of the few times the husband made headlines.

Although that’s not to say he lacked any role in his wife’s political life. E-mails uncovered by MSNBC in 2011 showed that Todd Palin regularly communicated with senior Alaska state officials on a wide range of topics.

Underwear blunder stalls trial of Chinese woman accused of trespassing at Mar-a-Lago
They included online chats about potential board appointees, constituent complaints, use of the state jet, oil and gas production, marine regulation, gas pipeline bids, post-secondary education, wildfires, native Alaskan issues, the state effort to save the Matanuska Maid dairy, budget planning, potential budget vetoes, oil shale leasing, staffing at the mansion, pier diem payments to the governor for travel, potential cuts to the governor's staff, Bureau of Land Management land transfers and trespass issues.

The couple's children have also lived in and out of the spotlight over the years.
Track Palin, their eldest son, was sentenced to a year in custody last year after a female acquaintance said he told her that she could not leave his house in Wasilla, took away her phone and then hit her in the head.
In December 2017, Track Palin was accused of breaking into his parents' home and leaving Todd bleeding from cuts on his head, authorities said. He pleaded guilty in June 2018 to a lesser charge in veterans court.
The couple's daughter Bristol Palin briefly starred in MTV's "Teen Mom" franchise but quit the series in April. She said in her announcement that the reality series wasn't a good fit for her and that "walking away from this show allows God to rebuild me (and my little fam) in the right direction."

Bristol Palin was 17 when she found out she was pregnant with her son, Tripp, who she had with former fiancé, Levi Johnston. She also has two daughters, Sailor Grace and Atlee Bay, with former husband, Dakota Meyer.

Neither Todd nor Sarah Palin could not immediately be reached for comment.

Felicity Huffman Says She Was Just Trying “To Be A Good Mother” In Letter To Judge Ahead of Sentencing; Twitter Reacts To Possible 1 Month Sentence
Later this week, actress Felicity Huffman is set to be sentenced for her role in a huge college admissions cheating scam dubbed “Operation Varsity Blues.”
Ahead of her sentencing, the actress penned a letter to the judge, expressing “utter shame” for her role in the scam. Although she revealed there “is no justification” for what she had done, she said she was just trying “to be a good mother.”

“I don’t write this letter to you in any way to justify my wrongdoing, my guilt or to avoid conscious acceptance of the consequences,” she wrote. “In my desperation to be a good mother, I talked myself into believing that all I was doing was giving my daughter a fair shot.”
“I see the irony in that statement now because what I have done is the opposite of fair. I have broken the law, deceived the educational community, betrayed my daughter, and failed my family,” she said in the three-page letter, which also detailed how she got involved with the scandal in the first place.
“Mr. [WIlliam ‘Rick’] Singer was recommended as one of the best experts in LA, and I was told I would be lucky if I could get him to sign on to help me,” Huffman revealed, adding that her intention was to hire a counselor to maximize her daughter’s acceptance rate.

Though the two worked legitimately for a year, with extra assistance for her other daughter, she eventually realized her daughter’s scores weren’t improving. When she confronted Singer about the scores, he informed her that if the SAT scores didn’t increase dramatically, then she wouldn’t be considered for any college auditions.
However, when the scores failed to increase after a year of tutoring, Singer said “we will make sure she gets the scores she needs” by convincing the proctor to bump up the scores after the test. Though she struggled with the decision for six weeks, she revealed that she “honestly began to feel that maybe I would be a bad mother if didn’t do what Mr. Singer was suggesting.”

As the actress continued, she expressed the “utter shame” she felt after the decision because she “knew it wasn’t right.” She also described the moment her daughter found out about the scandal and accepted her punishment for her crimes
In May, the actress pleaded guilty to conspiring to pay $15,000 to a fake charity that facilitated the SAT scam. While prosecutors have suggested one month in prison and a $20,000 fine, according to NBC News, her lawyers are hoping for one year of probation, 250 hours of community service and a $20,000 fine.

But as Huffman’s sentencing approaches, many on social media are calling out the blatant miscarriage of justice, when it comes to black women in similar situations.
“A black homeless woman in CT, living in her van, used an address for her 5 y/o to attend kindergarten and was jailed for five years,” one user wrote, adding, “Felicity Huffman bribes a college for her daughter and the prosecutors are recommending she serve 1 Month. Wealth & race inequality in USA.”

Another wrote, “Remember the story of the black mom (Kelley William-Bolar) who used her Fathers address for her daughters to attend a better school, and was sentenced to 9 days in jail and 3 years probation. Where were these stupid people then who are now defending Felicity Huffman?”
“Remember Tanya McDowell,” another wrote. “She got 12 years for sending her son to school in Norwalk CT while she ‘lived’ in Bridgeport. She was homeless. She was convicted of ‘stealing’ an education. Felicity Huffman gets 30 days for bribing her daughter into college. #CollegeCheating SCandal.”

Crowd Stampede At Lil Wayne's 2019 Lil Weezyana Fest Leads To Injuries & Theft
NEW ORLEANS, LA – Lil Wayne’s latest Lil Weezyana Fest was plagued by a crowd stampede, which caused chaos at the event. According to the New Orleans Advocate, large portions of the audience ran in a panic due to an unknown disturbance at the UNO Lakefront Arena grounds in New Orleans on Saturday night (September 7).
Multiple attendees were injured in the stampede, which saw barriers get destroyed and tables being overturned. Concession areas were plagued by theft amid the ruckus and employees abandoned their booths in fear of their safety.

“I didn’t know what was going on,” George Krider, an employee of the catering company operating the drink booths, told the Advocate. “The first thing you think is, ‘Was it gunshots? I think it was a fight.”
Kider said employees tried to salvage what they could before “calling it a day.” Money and liquor were stolen from the booths. Fans were unable to get water later in the night due to the abandoned concessions.

Police reportedly believe a fight or false rumors of gunfire sparked the stampede, which began around 8:40 p.m. local time following Meek Mill’s performance. New Orleans police officers told the Advocate no shots were fired at the festival grounds.
“My brother said to me and my cousin, ‘Run. Just run. I don’t know what’s happening,'” concert attendee Melanie Melasky said. “I turned around at one point to see what was happening, but everyone was running away. No cops were going towards [the stampede].”
An estimated 15,000 people were in attendance at the 2019 Lil Weezayana Fest, which was live streamed on TIDAL. Multiple attendees were knocked to the ground or tripped in the stampede and required medical attention at on-site facilities.

Ariana Grande Says Mac Miller’s Dealer “Took Advantage Of Him” And Deserves Jail Time For His Death
Ariana Grande believes that the dealer who supplied her ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, with counterfeit pills that cost him his life should pay for his crime with jail time.
According to TMZ, sources close to Grande claim she believes, 28-year-old Cameron James Pettit, the man the feds believe supplied Miller with counterfeit oxycodone pills that contained fentanyl — took advantage of someone suffering from addiction and should face the consequences for his role in Mac’s death.

Prosecutors arrested Pettit and alleged he was one of the three people who supplied Mac with the fentanyl-laced drugs. Sources claim the other two people are possibly a madam and a prostitute also associated with Pettit and Miller.
Pettit was taken into custody Wednesday and is being held without bond. He’s set to be arraigned next month. He is currently facing a charge of distributing a controlled substance.

Law enforcement sources also told TMZ, that Pettit could possibly face an enhanced drug trafficking charge resulting in death. This charge requires more investigation, which is currently underway.
Ariana’s people also say the recent arrest has brought some sense of closure to her, though she knows this isn’t the end of the story until justice for Mac’s death is finally served.

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz are moving to a multi-million-dollar mansion on the beach.
The superstar couple has thrown down $20.8 million on a contemporary seaside mansion in La Jolla, Calif., located 20 minutes northwest of San Diego.

Tina Turner Speaks! She says Doesn’t Know If She Could Ever Forgive All That Ike Turner Did To Her
American treasure turned Swiss housewife – legendary singer Tina Turner – is taking a seat in the audience instead of the stage ahead of her life story’s journey to Broadway in “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical.” And that’s just the way she likes it! After retiring from the music business in 2009, she lives a lavish life in Switzerland with her husband, Erwin Bach – a far cry from her late ex-husband, Ike Turner. In honor of the biographical musical’s Broadway premiere, she’s opening up about how she feels about music and Ike years after his death.
Tina, 79, says she has no desire to return to the stage ten years after her official retirement:

“I don’t sing, I don’t dance, I don’t dress up…I was just tired of singing and making everybody happy. That’s all I’d ever done in my life.”
After seeing “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical” for the first time in London, she told the actor who plays Ike Turner that she “forgives him.” The same can’t be said for the real Ike Turner. Tina said:
“I don’t know if I could ever forgive all that Ike ever did to me – [but] Ike’s dead. So we don’t have to worry about him.”
She revealed that the abuse depicted in the 1993 film, “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” only touches the surface of what Tina Turner endured:

“I think I’m ashamed. I feel I told enough.”
On if she identifies with the #MeToo movement:
“I identify only with my life. I was busy doing it. Doing the work…I don’t necessarily want to be a ‘strong’ person. I had a terrible life. I just kept going. You just keep going, and you hope that something will come. This [referring to her husband] came.”

Trump targets John Legend and 'his filthy mouthed wife,' Chrissy Teigen, in late night Tweetstorm
President Trump was up late on Sunday night, lashing out at musician John Legend and his wife, the model and television personality Chrissy Teigen, for not giving him enough credit for his work on the bipartisan criminal justice bill he signed last year.

“When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help,” the president wrote in a series of tweets shortly after 11 p.m. ET. “I got it done with a group of Senators & others who would never have gone for it. Obama couldn’t come close.”
Trump has been in the habit recently of taking on entertainment celebrities, especially for what he perceives as ingratitude and slights. A week ago he tweeted angrily at actress Debra Messing over her political views.

In December 2018, Trump signed into law the First Step Act, which shortened sentences for nonviolent offenders and expanded job training and other programs for prisoners. The president was widely praised for what he called “a great bi-partisan achievement for everybody.”
“A man named @VanJones68, and many others, were profusely grateful (at that time!),” Trump continued. “I SIGNED IT INTO LAW, no one else did, & Republicans deserve much credit. But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise.”

Van Jones is a civil rights advocate and a former adviser to President Barack Obama for Obama’s green jobs initiative.
Trump’s tweets came hours after MSNBC aired a special town hall on criminal justice reform, hosted by Lester Holt and featuring Legend, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch and other reform advocates.

“Guys like boring musician @johnlegend, and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is — but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed,” the president fumed. “‘Anchor’ @LesterHoltNBC doesn’t even bring up the subject of President Trump or the Republicans when talking about the importance or passage of Criminal Justice Reform. They only talk about the minor players, or people that had nothing to do with it.”
However, Holt did, in fact, give Trump credit during the “Dateline” episode that preceded the town hall.
“The people that so desperately sought my help when everyone else had failed, all they talk about now is Impeaching President Trump!” Trump added in the third person.

Legend and Teigen responded in tweets of their own.
LOL!
