The Daily Buzz For Aug 17 ☕📰☕

America,This is the Real Donald Trump!
GQ’s Jay Willis writes a stunning piece about Donald Trump. He says ‘Three days after blithely refusing to condemn white supremacists who murdered a woman by running her over with a car, and one day after issuing a halfhearted follow-up after some bewildered White House staffer told him that a key part of being President of the United States is saying that Nazis are bad, Donald Trump trotted out for a press conference this afternoon and angrily ripped this fragile, clumsy, multi-part response to shreds.’

#EMPIRE: How Will Cookie React to Lucious' Memory Loss?
The mind-melting Season 3 finale of Empire ended on a perfect soap-opera moment: Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) was nearly blown up in a car-bomb explosion, and when he woke up from a coma in the hospital, he had lost all his memories.
It left the upcoming fourth season with a wide open door to walk through, as Empire was free to do almost anything with this storyline. Is he faking it? If it's real, how will his family react? What does this mean for the company? Will he remember that his mom murdered Tariq?

We won't get all those answers until Empire returns, but first question first: Is Lucious faking his amnesia?
"Fans should not be questioning it, it's not a long con," Empire creatorLee Daniels told TV Guide. "He really has lost his memory. It's hard for me to believe that, but he really has lost his memory."

So how will Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) react to this version of Lucious, who starts over with a new slate?
"We see the angel that he could be," Henson told us, reflecting on this new Lucious who has none of the hate he had before. "[Cookie] doesn't know how to accept it, because it's foreign to her. I think it's nice, but she wants that old thing back."

Don't we all. Who wants to see a nice Lucious? Empire Season 4 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 8/9c on Fox.

#MUSICNEWS; Ledisi Introduces New Album “Let Love Rule” at NYC Press Event
Ledisi held an event last week in NYC to give a preview of the upcoming album “Let Love Rule”.
And our friends over at ‘You Know I Got Soul’ attended and gave this report.
The evening began with a Q&A session where we got to hear from Ledisi how Bob Marley influenced the vibe of this album, and how she wasn’t quite ready to record when she initially went into the studio. She talked about how producers Rex Rideout and DJ Camper pushed her in the right direction, and how excited she is to share this project with the world.

She then took the stage to perform some of the new music live. Included in the set was current single “High”, as well as her recently released song “Add to Me”.
She performed a couple of other new songs, before stepping into the audience and gleefully greeting all attendees in the room. “Let Love Rule” is set to release on September 22nd, 2017. (H/T YouknowISoul”)

Uh Oh? Usher Does Not Intend to Settle Herpes Lawsuits
Usher is facing lawsuits from four different people who say that he exposed them to herpes, but the R&B superstar does not intend on settling with any of his accusers.
TMZ cites inside sources, who say that Usher has no intention of settling these lawsuits at the moment and says that there have been no settlement talks thus far. However, that could change depending on a cost-benefit analysis down the line, one insider said.
Three women and a man are currently suing Usher, alleging that he exposed them to the herpes virus without informing him that he was carrying the sexually transmitted disease. Three of the four accusers are anonymous while one — Quantasia Sharpton — has been public with her claim.

The news comes in the wake of a report that Usher privately settled a similar lawsuit for $1.1 million back in 2012.

Usher has not officially addressed any of these allegations.

Kim Kardashian Apologizes for Defending Jeffree Star After His Racist Comments
Kim Kardashian was criticized on social media for defending makeup artist Jeffree Star after his past racist comments.

"Guys, I see you being so petty and bringing up things in [Star's] past where he was negative, but he has also apologized for those things," Kardashian, 36, said in a series of Snapchat videos on Monday, August 14. "I get [that] it's a serious deal if you say racial things, but I do believe in people changing, and people that apologize, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and accept that people change and move on."
Reflecting on her own past, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star continued, "I know better than anyone that I hate when people bring up my past or mistakes that I've made in the past. So let him live."

DUMB ASS The issue is that Jeffree hasn't just said racial things in the past, he's said them recently as well and refuses to ackonwledge that.  His recent apology video only addrssed something he said 12 years ago (disrespectful racist comments toward black women).

So Kim trying to police what a black woman (or anyone really) can and can't be mad at is entitled and ridiculous.  Because we all know her sensitive ass didn't "just get over" all the Ray J jokes and people criticizing how exactly she got to where she is.

As expected, folks started going in on her, so she had to offer up an apology. *rolls eyes *

In a now deleted Instagram video, Kim said:
“So I really wanted to apologize to you guys and my fans for defending a situation yesterday that I really didn’t know enough about. I just feel a bit naïve, and I do want to really apologize for me feeling like I had the right to say ‘get over it’ in a situation that involves racism.”

“I just don’t really feel like I have the right to speak on that, and I really, really, really am sorry,” she said. “From the bottom of my heart, I’ve always been about positivity and I’ve never been a negative person, so my whole thing was: ‘Hey guys, I don’t want to see negativity in my timeline or my mentions, let’s just move forward — let’s be positive and move past this.’ ”

“I really am sorry, and I just want to move forward and be positive,” she continued. “My last message is that I do believe that people are born to love and born with love, and they are taught to hate. So I have always had hopes that people can change and that people can learn to be better and do better, and learn to find that love again. So never give up hope. That is my message for the day and that’s always been what I’m trying to say. I believe in people changing, I believe in people just being better, and I’ll never give that up. I just want people to be positive

Just shut the hell up!

Octavia Spencer, LeBron James Team on TV Series About Entrepreneur Madam C.J. Walker
NBA superstar LeBron James is continuing to make moves off the court. James’ production company, SpringHill Entertainment, is adding the first scripted drama to its growing slate. The project also boasts Oscar-winning talent: Octavia Spencer.
Spencer is attached to star in the limited series about entrepreneur and social activist Madam C.J. Walker’s life, with James exec producing along with his company’s co-founder, Maverick Carter.

Sources tell Variety that Netflix is interested in the series and is the likely destination. The steaming service had no comment on their involvement in the project
Nicole Asher is on board to write and co-exec produce and “Black Nativity” helmer Kasi Lemmons will direct the pilot and also exec produce.
The series is based on the book “On Her Own Ground” by A’Lelia Bundles, Walker’s great-great-granddaughter, who will also serve as a consultant on the series.

Walker, the daughter of slaves, was orphaned at age seven, married at 14, and widowed at 20. She spent two decades laboring as a washerwoman, earning $1.50 a week. However, everything changed following Walker’s discovery of a revolutionary hair care formula for black women. By the time she died in 1919, she had built a beauty empire from the ground up, amassing wealth unprecedented among black women. She counted W.E.B. Du Bois and Booker T. Washington among her friends.
Zero Gravity Management’s Mark Holder and Christine Holder optioned the book from Bundles in early 2016. Spencer got wind of the project and aggressively pursued the part. Once word spread that Spencer was attached, WME, who reps both Spencer and James, pitched the series to James as his production company’s entryway into the prestige genre.

SpringHill president Jamal Henderson brought the project to Carter’s attention and the two moved quickly to land the property.
With Nicole Asher set to write, Spencer starring, and James and Springhill on board as producers, the package was presented to potential buyers, with Netflix acting fast and the favorite to land the series.
“I am really proud of this project and that SpringHill will be partnering with Octavia to tell this important story,” James said. “Every American should all know the story of Madam C.J. Walker. She was an innovator, entrepreneur, social activist, and total game changer whose story has been left out of the history books. I hope this project lives up to her legacy with a story that will educate and inspire.”

The Holders (through Zero Gravity), James and Carter (through SpringHill), and Spencer (through her production company Orit Entertainment) will all serve as exec producers with Asher on board as a co-exec producer.

“It’s so exciting for all of us to keep building SpringHill, see it mature, and continue to find its voice. We are really focused on growing with authenticity and substance,” Carter said. “For us, this is totally about great stories and great partners. Partnering with Octavia to tell the story of Madam C.J. Walker is the ideal first project for SpringHill to take an important step into scripted drama.”
The film is in line with SpringHill’s mission to spotlight the hidden African-American figures who helped shape American history. The company recently donated $2.5 million to the Smithsonian’s Muhammad Ali exhibit at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Launched in 2013, SpringHill has quietly become a big force in the entertainment industry. Although the company, which partnered with Warner Bros. in 2015, didn’t produce any series that were picked up this pilot season, they sold three pilot pitches to broadcast networks while producing the hit Starz series “Survivor’s Remorse.” The company is also producing a comedy for HBO set in an L.A. sneaker store.
Spencer’s hit film “Hidden Figures” earned her an Oscar nomination. She followed up the role with Summit Entertainment’s “The Shack” and Fox Searchlight’s “Gifted.” The actress can be seen next in Guillermo del Toro’s Cold War fantasy “The Shape of Water,” which is already gaining award season buzz.

#BEEF Jesse Williams Wife Demands Sole Custody. Doesn’t want other women around their Kids!
Jesse Williams’ wife, Aryn Drake-Lee, is gunning for sole custody of their two children.
According to a new report, Aryn has filed new docs in their divorce case, listing why she feels she should receive custody of their son and daughter. She claims that the children are being emotionally compromised, as their father (Jesse) has exposed them to at least one intimate partner and possibly more. In fact, she’s requested the judge to order him to keep girlfriends away from the kids and only allow them to see if they’ve dated for six months.

Aryn also details an alleged road rage incident that happened last month. She says that after an argument, the neighbor flipped off Jesse. She claims that Jesse then “aggressively pursued him in his car” with their two kids inside. She says Jesse threatened to kill him. Aryn believes that the kids are showing psychological signs of damage.
Jesse, who is reportedly dating actress Minka Kelly, has yet to comment publicly. Jesse and Aryn were together for 13 years and married for 5.

DJ David Mueller Defends Himself After Losing Taylor Swift Groping Trial: ‘I Never Grabbed Her’
pic courtesy of ABC news

David Mueller defended himself in a preview for a new interview after losing his groping trial against
After the jury’s verdict, the former radio host told ABC News that there’s “no question” in his mind that he did not grab the superstar’s butt while posing for a photo at a June 2013 meet-and-greet. "What I’m saying is that I didn’t do what they say I did. I never grabbed her,” he said in the clip, which aired on Good Morning America on Tuesday, August 15. “I never had my hand under her skirt, and I can pass a polygraph.”
The Denver-based DJ explained that the meet-and-greet pic with the singer, 27, is awkward because he was moving into the frame at the last second. “I wasn’t ready,” he said. "I wasn’t invited to be in the photo, so I just moved into the shot the best I could.”

Swift, however, testified that he groped her beneath her skirt. “It was a definite grab — a very long grab. He stayed latched on to my bare ass cheek as I moved away from him,” she said. “I was visibly uncomfortable."

Meuller claimed that he wasn’t looking for money from Swift — he simply wanted a note clearing his name. "I asked for something in writing that stated there was a misunderstanding,” he said, “and I could take that to possibly convince someone at a radio station to hire me.” He said that he may appeal the jury’s decision.
As previously reported, the jury ruled in favor of the “Wildest Dreams” songstress and ordered Mueller to pay her $1. Swift’s lawyer J. Douglas Baldridge explained in his opening statements that his client was seeking a symbolic dollar “to show women you can say no.”
The Grammy winner issued a statement after the trial, thanking the judge, jury and her legal team for “fighting for me and anyone who feels silenced by a sexual assault, and especially anyone who offered their support throughout this four-year ordeal and two-year long trial process.” She added that she hopes to “help those whose voices should also be heard,” and plans to donate to multiple organizations to help sexual assault victims defend themselves in court.

These 2 Black were Men Assaulted By White Supremacists in Charlottesville VA!
(HuffPost) Both Deandre Harris and Marcus Martin sustained severe injuries from the rally in Charlottesville.
One woman was killed and more than a dozen people were injured as a result of Saturday’s white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Among those injured were two black men, both of whom were captured on camera in the moments that they were assaulted.
In one case, 20-year-old Deandre Harris was brutally beaten by a mob of white supremacists holding metal poles. Harris told HuffPost on Tuesday that he is currently recovering from the severe injuries he sustained, which include head gashes, a broken wrist and a chipped tooth. He also said that he is currently looking to hire a lawyer.
Photographer Zach D. Roberts captured the harrowing moment Harris was beaten in an image that has since gone viral:
In another instance, counter-protester Marcus Martin was hit by a driver that deliberately crashed into a crowd of protesters. The crash killed 32-year-old paralegal Heather Heyer and would have also hit Martin’s fiancée had he not rushed onto the scene moments before.
Martin sustained injuries from the attack, including a broken leg. That moment was captured in a photo that has also gone viral:
Anti-racist protesters were mowed down by a vehicle going at a high speed during a white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday.

Both images exemplify the egregious acts of violence that took place on Saturday. The rally, which was led by hundreds of white supremacists, neo-Nazis and KKK members, was a direct response to the planned removal of a statue honoring Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. It very quickly turned into a massive gathering that plainly demonstrated how America has yet to reckon with its widespread issues of racism and white supremacy.
Harris and Martin echoed some of the same sentiments in the days since the attacks. In fact, Martin explains that it was the racism being espoused at the rally on Saturday that encouraged him to attend in the first place and express intolerance of such hatred.

“I wasn’t going to attend the rally, but then I get on Facebook, and I see videos of them just beating [people] with torches,” Martin told CNN on Tuesday. “And that’s what I stand for, I stand for my black community. I stand for everything, what’s right. And by me being able to see what was really going on, I couldn’t, I couldn’t allow myself not to go.”
Martin said his motive in attending the demonstration was to “stand up and spread love.” He also mourned the death of Heyer and called out her alleged killer, who he said showed no remorse for his actions.
“He took it upon hisself ... to walk out the rally, to get in his car, to find out where the good protest was going, and you find us and you run us down,” Martin said. “He knew exactly what he was doing. His intentions [were] clear. He wanted pain. He wanted hurt. He wanted blood. That’s what he was after.”
Harris, who said he is spending his time on recovering and identifying his attackers, also condemned the violence he and others faced at the rally.
“I think for them to be allowed to come here and protest is really crazy,” Harris told The Root, explaining how he was beaten in a parking garage right beside a police station, but no cops came to his aid. “I understand everyone is entitled to their freedom of speech, but the government and the mayor made a bad business move. It’s only caused havoc in your own city. It’s crazier that people have the hatred in their heart to want to kill black people.”
Marcus Martin (center), who was injured when a car plowed into a crowd of people protesting against the white supremacist “Unite the Right” rally, his fiancée, Marissa Blair (behind with arms around Marcus), and friends visit the memorial built at the place where he was injured and where 32-year-old Heather Heyer was killed in the same attack.

David Straughn, a Black Lives Matter organizer who calls Charlottesville home, said white nationalists descended upon the city last weekend with a specific agenda: “They came to intimidate, harm and assault predominantly people of color,” he told HuffPost
Straughn said he attended an event Friday at a local church, along with speakers Dr. Cornel West and Traci Blackmon, where attendees were told to stay indoors as a group of white nationalists approached the area.
“No members were allowed to leave and we were held hostage in that church,” Straughn said. “It was like something from the ’60s. It was something I had heard about and had never thought I’d witness in my lifetime.”

“Charlottesville has put on display the ways in which white supremacy has fueled and continues to fuel a genocide against black people, both in this country and around the world.
However, Straughn said the real horror reigned on Saturday, as he witnessed firsthand the hate and violence that unfolded in the streets of Charlottesville. Straughn, who said he marched alongside hundreds of others as part of a peaceful protest demanding justice, was just steps away from Heyer before she was fatally struck by a car allegedly driven by a white nationalist.

“I was standing a foot away from Heather Heyer,” he recalled. “I watched the life pass from her eyes. It was the most horrific thing I had ever seen in my life.”
Straughn said he called medics immediately and worked with others to aid those who were injured. He said he wishes he could have done more to help save Heyer’s life ― and that he had the opportunity to meet her family at a vigil to express his love and support for the bravery she showed.
“She will not die in vain,” he told them.
Straughn noted that people of color were the most vulnerable targets at Saturday’s rally. He said he is working with local organizers to help hold attackers accountable and demand that the police chief resign over what they believe were inadequate safety measures.
“They’re coming for bodies, they’re coming to hurt predominantly people of color,” Straughn said of the white nationalists who rallied. “They came to strike terror into the heart of Charlottesville.”
“We don’t live in a post-racial society,” he added. “We still live in a society where people are coming at our heads for looking and acting a different way. Nobody is safe.”

Patrisse Cullors, co-founder of Black Lives Matter, summed up the horror in Charlottesville and what it means for black lives in America.
“Charlottesville confirms the violence that black people endure every day,” she told HuffPost in a statement. ”[It] has put on display the ways in which white supremacy has fueled and continues to fuel a genocide against black people, both in this country and around the world.”

‘Dear White People’ Team Reunites On Justin Simien-Directed ‘Bad Hair’
Justin Simien, who wrote and directed the lauded Sundance indie Dear White People which he turned into the Netflix series, will next write and direct Bad Hair. He will team with Sight Unseen, the newly formed production shingle of Julia Lebedev, Eddie Vaisman, and Oren Moverman. Lebedev and Angel Lopez produced Dear White People, and Lebedev is exec producer of the Netflix series spinoff.

Paralleling the rise of New Jack Swing in 1989, Bad Hair is a horror satire that follows an ambitious young woman who gets a weave in order to survive the image obsessed world of music television. Her professional success comes at a higher cost than anticipated, however, when she discovers her new hair may have a mind of its own. Simien has retained the biting satirical commentary but added genre bending thrills. Sight Unseen VP of Development, Angel Lopez, will oversee the film for the company. They’ve started a teaser website that will be developed over time as the movie takes shape
Simien sparked to a team-up “with Sight Unseen in order to create work that both entertains and holds a mirror up to society. This will be both a love letter to black women and a critique of the cultural forces our society puts them through.”

Simien, who created and exec produced the Dear White People series, is in pre-production on the ten-episode second season, which will premiere in 2018. He is repped by WME, Oasis Media Group and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka.
