THIS JUST IN! Janet Jackson Launches her own Record Label!

Janet Jackson Launches her own Record Label!
We all know by now that Janet is releasing a new CD and World Tour but this was just dropped this morning, she’ll do it on her own label, the aptly-named Rhythm Nation, partnered with BMG.

The album doesn’t have a title yet, or an actual release date — but expect it sometime between September and November. As the official announcement on Janet’s site touts, “With Rhythm Nation Janet Jackson becomes arguably the first female African-American recording artist to form her own record label. At Rhythm Nation Janet plans to offer a home to both new and established recording artists.” This means Janet won’t just be the label’s star artist, she’ll also move into the role of taste-making mogul, a smart move that Beyonce and Demi Lovato are also pursuing.

As BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch says, “Janet is not just a supreme artist, she is a unique cultural force whose work resonates around the world. It is an honor that she has chosen BMG to release her long-awaited new album. We look forward to collaborating with her across every platform.”
Janet expressed her excitement over the project in a statement: “Thank you to the talented team at BMG, my new artistic home. The opportunity to be creative in music and every form of entertainment has great potential here.”

We’re eagerly anticipating Janet’s return to the music world, and as such, we’ll be celebrating over the next few weeks with some looks at her cultural legacy. Welcome to Janet June (and look forward to Janet autumn, too).
