The Daily Buzz For Feb 11

First Lady Michelle Obama COVERS Cooking Light's March 2015 Issue
Our lovely First Lady Michelle Obama is gracing the cover of March 2015 issue to commemorate her 5th anniversary of her Let's Move campaign. And get this, she’s the first person to ever grace the cover of the healthy lifestyle magazine!
In the cover story, FLOTUS talks about the importance of families cooking dinner rather than grabbing fast food and processed foods and how it’s important to your overall health. She said,

“The most powerful thing that [people] can do for their overall health is feed their bodies good nutritious food,” she says. “If you don’t like the doctor, if you don’t like the government, if you don’t like folks messing with your life, the best thing to do is make sure you’re healthy.”

Mrs. Obama also talked about what she ate growing up as her mom prepared all of the family meals. She said,
“She was famous for her lemon chicken,” Mrs. Obama says, “and that was a good Sunday dish,” as was roast beef that would go into sandwiches for lunch on Monday and Tuesday. Weeknights meant lasagna, the “unfortunate liver Wednesdays,” fish on Fridays, and the occasional pizza takeout. “There was a pattern to what we ate,” she says. “There were familiar flavors … we would sit around the table with the plastic tablecloth, and that’s when we would catch up and we’d talk about what we were eating, talk about what was going on in the day.”
And although The Obamas are in the White House and have chefs to prepare their meals, family dinner is still a tradition. She said, “the conversation and the mood and the tone are still the same. [Between 6:30 and 7 p.m.] is our most important time of the day”.

Beyoncé Explains Why She Had To Perform That Song At Grammys
Y’all know how we felt about Beyoncé performing “Take My Hand, Precious Lord.” It seemed shady considering Ledisi was there in the audience and it was the very song she sang in the critically acclaimed and award winning film Selma.
The announcement was odd and the backlash was swift. For all those who “hate” Beyoncé, this was finally a legit reason to throw stones. And for those who love her, a source of disappointment. Personally, I belong to the latter group. And I still don’t understand it. So when I saw that Beyoncé released an 8 minute video explaining her choice to perform the song, I thought it might shed a bit more light on her decision.

WATCH HERE

In case you didn’t hear her bestie Gwyneth Paltrow last night, Mama Tina first sang the song to Beyoncé when she was a child and then played Mahalia Jackson’s version for her.
And in today’s times, with all the violence directed toward Black men and boys by law enforcement, it was important that Beyoncé, as she puts it, showcase “the vulnerability and the strength of Black men.”

She also shared why the performance was important to her personally.
“My grandparents marched with Dr. King. My father was a part of the first generation of Black men that attended an all-White school. My father has grown up with a lot of trauma from those experiences. I feel like now I can sing for his pain. I can sing for my grandparents’ pain. I can sing for some of the families that have lost their sons.”

Ummmmm Nicki The Tweets Are Talking…
… and what they’re saying is nothing nice. Lol.
Black Twitter holds no bars when it comes to commenting on celebrity flaws and mishaps. In response to a photo of rapper Nicki Minaj without her artificial butt padding, Twitter user Mikey pondered “Where the hell did Nicki’s ass go?!”
Another Twitter user suggested Nicki has completed her journey crossing over to white audiences who aren’t particularly fond of surgically enhanced buttocks.

There will be JUSTICE for Akai Gurley! Grand Jury Indicts Cop For Killing Unarmed Brooklyn Man
When considering the case of Eric Garner and Mike Brown, this is a surprise. A Brooklyn cop was indicted in the fatal shooting of Akai Gurley in a stairwell in the Pink Houses in East New York last year. The officer has been charged with manslaughter.

Reports New York Daily News:
Peter Liang will face criminal charges that can send him to prison for up to 15 years for the death of Akai Gurley on Nov. 20, 2014, a source said.
A grand jury started hearing the case on Feb 4. A spokeswoman for the Brooklyn district attorney declined to comment.
A source said Liang was indicted for a top count second-degree manslaughter, which means he acted recklessly, among other charges.
Liang discharged one bullet when patrolling the stairways of the Pink Houses in East New York, striking Gurley in the chest as the man stood in the landing a floor below.
We’ll see when the case goes to trial, and when the jury comes to their decision, whether or not #blacklivesmatter.

Vivica A. Fox Defends Apprentice Exit, Gives Kenya Moore Feud Update
Celebrity Apprentice has taken us on a dizzying journey this season, full of fights, firings and whatever this was — and Vivica A. Fox tells TVLine exactly how Monday’s live finale (NBC, 8/7c) should go down.
“I’m betting on Leeza Gibbons,” she tells us. “Girl power! We haven’t had a [female] winner since Joan Rivers, so it’s time for another woman to represent!”

As you might recall, Fox essentially fired herself on the last episode by refusing to devalue fellow finalists Gibbons and Geraldo Rivera. But make no mistake, if Fox could go back and do it all again, she wouldn’t change a thing.
“To those who say I chickened out, you’re entitled to your opinion, but I’m a realist and I think I made the right decision,” she says. “I didn’t want to say mean things about either of them, because neither of them deserved that. Between them, they brought in close to half a million dollars, and that should be commended. That’s why I bowed out; there’s no sense in fighting a fight you can’t win. I’d been there for seven weeks, so I was tired and ready to get back to my wonderful life.”

That said, Fox’s “wonderful life” probably won’t include any lunch dates with Apprentice rival Kenya Moore.
Vivica A. Fox Fired“We all did the [Television Critics Association winter press tour] a couple months ago, and she kept her distance,” Fox tells us. “I’d like her to be woman enough to say, ‘I got caught up and I did you wrong,’ and we could keep it moving. I’m not one to hold a grudge, but the fact that she went on this whole campaign of assassinating my character and my professionalism is unacceptable to me. She did it to deflect the truth; she stole my phone and hacked into my Twitter account. The fact that she watched us all looking for it, then blindsided me with it in the boardroom was just… wow.”
Speaking of the boardroom, don’t expect to see Fox and Ian Ziering’s fellow Sharknado survivor Tara Reid sitting across from Donald Trump anytime soon — or ever.
“Oh no, no, no, no, we’re not going to put Ms. Tara Reid on Celebrity Apprentice,” Fox says with a laugh. “I love her, but she’d cuss everybody out two times and go, ‘I’m done! I can’t, I just can’t.’ The producers would have to keep their fingers on that bleep button the whole time!”
Apprentice fans, how do you feel about Fox’s exit from the competition? And who should win it all, Gibbons or Rivera?

Common Tell Teas On Serena Williams Breakup -- " It Was Mutual...But..............
Golden Globe winner Common opened up about his breakup with tennis icon Serena Williams and talked to Meredith Vieira about their ongoing friendship.  Watch the clips inside...
Fresh off a Golden Globe win and a critically praised performance of "Glory" at the Grammys, award-winning rapper and actor Common appeared on The Meredith Vieira Show this week where he opened up about breaking up with Serena Williams and how they've managed to maintain a friendship post-breakup.  When Meredith asked how their relationship ended, Common said,

"Yeah, yeah it was kind of eventually a mutual breakup but she initiated it. It’s okay though, for me we’ve got a great understanding and I care about her as a person. I think most of the people that I’ve dealt with in my adult life, the woman I have dealt with I care about so we can keep that friendship. It’s not like every person you talk to every other day but you still have that respect and you have love for them and want to see them do well."
Meredith went on to ask if the pair had started dating "now" instead of "then", could it have played out differently. He said,

"I don’t think about that but I do recognize that if we were both at different points at that time then the relationship would have been different. I let the past be the past, grow from the past and stay in the present."

In one of the show's high points, Common talked about Selma getting snubbed at the Oscars, while delivering one of the most politically correct responses ever:

"I don’t really use the word snub. That’s not a word I ever used before. I have to say that we are grateful that Selma has been nominated for best picture and we are grateful we have been nominated for best original song. Of course I was disappointed, I wanted Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo and everybody to receive their nominations but we also understand this movie was about voting right, and the voting process, and if that didn’t happen this time we’ve got to respect that they weren’t voted to be nominated this time, but hopefully they will in the future. The impact the movie is having is something to be celebrated when you know people have bought tickets for junior high school students, across country the country this has been happening, for students to go attend this movie. Wealthy people said we are going to gather our money so we make sure students see this movie and churches black and white have taken their congregations…that’s impact you want to have. I’m just grateful to be a part of it. "

Well said

NeNe Leakes Talks Life After “RHOA”
On yesterday’s episode of "The Real", “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes join the ladies at the round table to guest co-host.

On the show, NeNe spoke about what she has in store once the lights go out on the reality tv show that has catapulted her into the limelight. Since starring on the show, NeNe has dibbled and dabbled in many other projects including her guest starring role on “Glee”, her HSN clothing line and a once-in-a-lifetime Broadway role where she played the evil stepmother in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella.

Below are the highlights:

Loni Love: What is your overall goal in all of this?
NeNe Leakes: In what I do?
Loni Love: Uh huh.
NeNe Leakes: Well, you know I love being a business woman. I love being an entrepreneur. I love being a clothing designer. Those are things I really enjoy doing. And I have to say being on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” opened up many doors and opportunities for me. I love acting! So I was able to do that and I want continue to be able to do those things. I LOVE LOVE LOVE doing that! I don’t always want to be on a reality show, although I loved it. I love producing, I want to continue to be able to do those kind of things. I want to continue to do that kind of stuff. I don’t want to sit in work everyday and argue and fuss and fight with girls. Honestly, I don’t!
Adrienne Bailon: Well you were great on broadway! We went to go see you and you were phenomenal.
NeNe Leakes: I loved it! I loved it! It was amazing, honestly!

Marvel Adds Spider-Man To Cinematic Universe
It’s been one of the most successful film franchises in recent memory and now “Spider-Man” is under Marvel Studios’ creative umbrella.
Due to a new partnership between Sony Pictures and Marvel, Peter Parker and his superhero alter ego will now become part of the Avengers films, as has been the case in previous Marvel comics storylines.
And there’s plenty of well-founded speculation that Spidey will make his first appearance in “Captain America: Civil War,” slated to hit theaters on May 6th, 2016. From there Sony will release a new stand-alone Spider-Man film on July 28th, 2017. All this to say that we’ll be seeing plenty more web-flinging action in the years to come!

Jon Stewart says he’s leaving The Daily Show
Ending one of the most venerable and trusted careers in making a complete mockery of the news, Jon Stewart has announced that he is stepping down as host of The Daily Show. According to sources who were there (some of whom are already passing word along on social media), Stewart let the news slip at the taping of today’s episode, telling those in the audience that he’s retiring. No word yet on when exactly he’s leaving, whether this means he’s ending his time in the anchor chair to focus on being a Serious Movie Director now, or just how much this is Brian Williams’ fault. Presumably all of this information will be revealed in time—and delivered by Stewart himself tonight on your television. We’ll update when we have more.

UPDATE: Comedy Central just sent out this official statement confirming the news, and saying that Stewart will remain with The Daily Show until later this year. It also says that the show will “endure for years to come,” suggesting that it won’t end with Stewart:
All the best Jon!

Brian Williams Suspended Six Months in Wake of Investigation
NBC News is suspending managing editor and Nightly News anchor Brian Williams for six months, without pay, in the wake of an investigation in to comments about his experiences in the early days of the Iraq war.

In a memo to the entire staff, NBC News president Deborah Turness announced the decision, saying it was effective immediately.
"We let Brian know of our decision earlier today. Lester Holt will continue to substitute Anchor the NBC Nightly News," said Turness.
Holt has been filling in for Williams since Monday after the anchor voluntarily took a leave of absence following growing controversy over his telling of an anecdote from 2003.
In a piece on Jan. 30 on Nightly News, Williams took Command Sergeant Major Tim Terpak, who just retired with three bronze stars, to a New York Rangers hockey game, where the vet was honored with a standing ovation by some 18,000 people at Madison Square Garden.
In honoring Terpak, Williams told the story of his helicopter being hit by an RPG, but that wasn't accurate.
On last Wednesday's Nightly News, Williams admitted, "I made a mistake in recalling the events of 12 years ago."

Turness said the review of the Williams situation "is ongoing."

Justin Bieber's '$60K per month LA mansion trashed after post-Grammy bash'
The old adage asserts that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
But, in the case of Justin Bieber's friend Meek Mill, it might be better to say that rappers shouldn't host parties in rented mansions - especially when they're designed with floor-to-ceiling windows.
According to a report by TMZ, Justin's rented property in LA was damaged following a major party to celebrate the annual Grammy Awards.
They detail that the 'Never Say Never' hitmaker moved out of the abode last week and US hip hop star Meek Mill moved into the Beverly Hills pad for a week.
Once settled, he hosted the bash which was attended by the likes of Khloe Kardashian, Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj following the star-studded ceremony on Sunday night.
Law enforcement sources told the gossip website that police had to be called after ice sculptures and punches were thrown when rival gang members clashed during the event, which Justin also attended.
In December last year it was reported that the 20-year-old singer had moved into the six-bedroom mansion on a short-term lease and he was said to be splashing out just under $60,000 per month to rent the impressive home.
It is not known whether or not Justin was due to move back into the abode after Meek's one-week lease.
The former child star - who has made headlines over the past year for various antics, including accusations of throwing eggs at a neighbour's house and getting a DUI - recently said in a YouTube video that he's far more pleasant than he's perceived to be.
He explained: 'It’s been a minute since I’ve been in a public appearance, and I didn't want to come off arrogant or conceited or basically how I’ve been acting the past year and a half.
'I’m not who I was pretending to be. Why I say I was "pretending" is often we pretend to be something we’re not as a cover up of what we’re truly feeling inside.

'And there were a lot of feelings going on in there. Just being young and growing up in this business is hard. Just growing up in general is hard.'

AND FINALLY FROM “THE CRAZY PEOPLE SHOPPING AT WALMART” FILES
‘MOON PIE’
I’m just waiting for a NASA Lunar Rover to come out of nowhere and land on that moon.
