#MAGFAB: Zoë Kravitz Covers W Magazine’s Fall Fashion Issue
W MAGAZINE released the second of four covers for its latest issue, Volume 4, The Fall Fashion Issue, featuring actor, musician, fashion icon Zoë Kravitz. This year, The Fall Fashion Issue is inspired by obsessions – what were we dying for, who were we living for, and what couldn’t we get out of our heads.

People close to her were not surprised that she wanted to direct a movie. “Everyone said, ‘You are a control freak, and you’re super bossy—directing is perfect for you,’ ” Kravitz told me, as she leaned into the carpet where the lizard had been.

On how the #MeToo movement inspired her to write her new film Blink Twice: “In the summer of 2017, I had come to a place of frustration with society and culture power dynamics…I went home one day after talking to a friend, and I wrote down the original title of the film: Pussy Island. Then—when was it? October, I think, when everything happened with Har—actually, I don’t want to say his name. I don’t want to give him any power.”
Recalling her biggest fashion/trend fail: “I did have one bad moment,…I plucked my eyebrows scarily thin. My mom said, ‘If you ever touch your eyebrows again, I will kill you.’ Thank god they grew back.”

On her favorite movie as a child: “The first movie I fell in love with was Grease…I drove everyone crazy with the songs, with leather jackets, talking about Danny Zuko. I would put on shows in my grandmother’s or my mom’s house. I’d perform songs with my cousins. I would cut up little tickets—I’d make the family pay me money! I was like, ‘It’s one dollar to get in.’ They’d say, ‘We live here; this is crazy,’ but they’d give me the dollar.”

Discussing her preferred fashion choices when directing Blink Twice: “We were like this weird, culty summer camp group…I bought 10 pairs of Patagonia shorts in different colors. I wore dresses sometimes, and I was really into loafers with socks. And hats. My ’fits were pretty cool. I didn’t think about it a lot, but when I looked back, I was like, ‘These are pretty cool.’”

#RHOA: Porsha Williams’ Ex Simon Guobadia Fighting ‘RHOA’ Star Over Subpoena Demanding Bravo Contract
Porsha Williams’ estranged husband, Simon Guobadia, pleaded with a judge to force the Real Housewives of Atlanta star to turn over her Bravo contract despite her objections, In Touch can exclusively report.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Simon, 60, asked that Porsha’s motion, to shut down subpoenas he issued to True Entertainment, the producers behind RHOA, and several banks where she holds funds, be denied.

The businessman said, “The information sought in the deposition subpoenas issued to True Entertainment, Bank of America Corporation, City National Bank, and Dino Bones Production, Inc. is relevant.”
Simon said Porsha, 43, asked that the prenuptial agreement they signed on November 22, 2022, be enforced in the divorce. He said, “This request alone puts [Porsha’s] income and financial status at issue because in order for the court to determine the enforceability of the prenuptial agreement, the court must evaluate, amongst a number of factors, [Porsha’s] financial circumstances.”

In his filing, Simon said he is seeking information about Porsha’s finances, including the pay she received for returning to Real Housewives of Atlanta. He said Porsha’s bank records and employment contracts will directly show her true financial status and income.
Simon’s lawyer argued, “The Wife publicly announced her return to the Real Housewives of Atlanta just a few days prior to her filing of this divorce action. The wife also publicly announced that she has entered into an overall scripted talent deal with NBC Universal Entertainment. It is apparent that wife's financial status and income have changed since the prenuptial agreement was executed in November 2022. Therefore, this Court must evaluate the circumstances surrounding this change to determine the fairness and enforceability of the prenuptial agreement. The information sought from Bank of America Corporation, City National Bank, True Entertainment, and Dino Bones Production, Inc. is not to harass, intimidate, or oppress any of the involved parties—but instead is to obtain documents regarding the wife's financial status and income.”

Simon claims that when he agreed to the terms of the prenuptial agreement, Porsha told him she was not going to return to Real Housewives of Atlanta.

His lawyer said, “[Porsha’s] work with The Real Housewives of Atlanta was her primary source of income for several years. Therefore, when [Porsha] told [Simon] during their engagement that she would not return to The Real Housewives of Atlanta, [Simon] was induced by [Porsha’s] representations to enter into the November 17, 2022 contractual agreement wherein he agreed to terms that he would not have otherwise agreed to.”

In his declaration, Simon said that during their engagement, Porsha told him she no longer wanted to return to RHOA.
“I knew at the time that we negotiated the Prenuptial Agreement, Porsha had no income from RHOA as she was not signed to Season 14 or Season 15 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. The only income Porsha had coming in were passive income and payments that she received from her other minor projects which were not enough to sustain her,” Simon said. “Since she no longer had her income from RHOA, Porsha explained to me that she needed money to help cover her bills and expenses.”

Simon claimed he started paying her a five-figure monthly allowance to help her cover her bills. He told the court that Porsha filed for divorce in February just after a year of marriage. Simon said she didn’t tell him until after she filed. A judge has yet to rule on the matter.

#HipHopNews: Megan Thee Stallion Doesn't Know Why Nicki Minaj Has A Problem With Her
In February, Megan Thee Stallion took shots at Nicki Minaj on “HISS” — and earned her first solo Hot 100 No. 1 in the process. The record prompted the New York rapper to respond with “Big Foot.” Aside from a few subliminal shots, the two have mostly let the beef rest where it stands.

On Wednesday (Sept. 4), during an interview with Billboard, Megan shared that making amends isn’t on the table, mainly because she has no idea why they’re even feuding. She told the publication, “I still, to this day, don’t know what the problem is. I don’t even know what could be reconciled because I, to this day, don’t know what the problem is.”

In 2019, the artists linked up for “Hot Girl Summer,” which was RIAA-certified platinum that same year. Its accompanying visuals have over 135 million YouTube views to date, while the song itself peaked at No. 11 on the Hot 100. Many speculated that Minaj fell out with Megan after her 2020 collaboration with Cardi B on “WAP.”

However, the Texas star shut down those rumors during a chat with Chicago’s 107.5 WGCI FM: “Me and Nicki, our relationship hasn’t changed since we did ‘Hot Girl Summer.' I feel like women, we really do know how to coexist, and we really do know how to not be catty. So, despite popular Internet opinion, that’s really not the case.”

Elsewhere in her Billboard cover story, Megan opened up about her self-titled LP, which was released in June. “With this album, I wanted to show people my personal interests and thoughts,” she explained. “I wanted to touch on my love for all things anime, all things Southern, how much I like to have fun, and I wanted to be myself. I feel like I did that.”

MEGAN consisted of 18 tracks, including the Yuki Chiba-assisted “Mamushi,” “Cobra,” “B.A.S.” featuring Kyle Richh and “Paper Together.” Regarding the last-mentioned track, which featured posthumous bars from UGK’s Pimp C, the Grammy Award winner stated, “To have my voice on a song with my favorite rapper ever, an unreleased verse? Motherf**kers ain’t walking around with Pimp C verses. And I got blessed with one.”

Rapper Rich Homie Quan Dead At 33
Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan died Thursday in his home at age 33.
The Fulton County medical examiner confirmed his death to Rolling Stone and The Associated Press. The cause of death is not yet available.

Rich Homie Quan’s family told TMZ that they are “shattered” and “heartbroken” by his death.
Born as Dequantes Devontay Lamar, Rich Homie Quan was part of the rap group Rich Gang with rapper Young Thug. Rich Homie Quan saw success with his hits “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).”
Rich Homie Quan discovered poetry while he was in jail for burglary. He then started rapping his poems over beats.
“By the time I dropped my first mixtape, I knew I wasn’t ready,” Rich Homie Quan told XXL in 2014. “I wanted to let the streets be my observation. I would read every comment I saw. Then I said, ‘I got to drop another mixtape. I got differentiate myself from everybody.’”

Rich Homie Quan’s song “Type of Way” was the anthem for the 2013 Michigan State football team, and when the team won the Rose Bowl in 2014, Quan flew out to party with the players in the locker room afterward. At the time, Drake called “Type of Way” the “song of the summer.”

Rich Homie Quan had four sons. Rapper Quavo shared a photo on Instagram of himself with Rich Homie Quan, along with rappers Takeoff, Young Thug and Offset, captioning it, “May God be with US never saw this being apart of our journey.”
R&B singer Jacquees wrote on social media, “Rest in Peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. I love you for Life. #Richgang.”

Apalachee High School Shooting Suspect Colt Gray Was On FBI’s Radar Since Last Year

The FBI confirmed on Wednesday that the suspect in the Apalachee High School shooting, which killed four people in Winder, Georgia, had been on its radar since 2023 after several anonymous tips.

In May 2023, the FBI received several tips about online threats made about committing a school shooting at an unidentified place and time, the federal agency wrote in a statement on X, formerly Twitter, adding that the threats included photos of guns
After the FBI identified that the threats were coming from Georgia, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office identified a 13-year-old boy as a possible suspect. In an interview with him and his father, the sheriff’s office learned that there were guns in their home for hunting but that the suspect in the threats did not have unsupervised access to them.

The teen denied making the online threats, but local schools were alerted about the threats so that the situation could be monitored.
“At that time, there was no probable cause for arrest or to take any additional law enforcement action on the local, state and federal level,” the FBI wrote in its statement.

The now 14-year-old is accused of being the gunman Wednesday at Apalachee High, killing two students and two teachers and leaving nine hospitalized. There is no apparent relationship between the suspect and the victims.
The suspect, in custody after surrendering to a school resource officer, is expected to face murder charges, the director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations told reporters at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

It remains unclear how the school shooter obtained firearms.

Naomi Campbell Returns Anna Wintour’s Shade At Harlem Fashion Row’s 2024 Style Awards
Uptown got a jumpstart on New York Fashion Week Tuesday (Sept. 3) with Harlem Fashion Row‘s 17th Annual Fashion Show and Style Awards.
Held at the General Grant National Memorial, the event honored legends and changemakers in fashion, including Naomi Campbell, who was recognized as the Icon of the Year. Initially presented by Vogue Global Editor Anna Wintour, Campbell’s tardiness resulted in Wintour tossing a slightly shady comment her way.

“I am a very punctual person, and I have the honor of presenting tonight to someone who is often late,” Anna said during her intro, according to the New York Post. She reportedly left the event immediately following her address — and before Campbell’s arrival.

When she did arrive, the runway pro was presented her honor by Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Samira Nasr — who was also honored that night — showing love to the EIC over “the other lady,” Wintour.
“Yes, Naomi’s always late, but I believe in my high power, and I want to thank my higher power for having me be here,” Campbell said. “It’s so important that I’m here today, and I’m honored to be here in Harlem. Everything’s going to work out the way it’s going to work out. It wasn’t my choice to have the other lady. I’d much rather have this.”

Nasr was recognized as Editor of the Year, and was presented her award by longtime friend Tracee Ellis Ross. “The role of editor-in-chief has changed and evolved since I started as an intern 30 years ago, but the role of magazines and fashion media has largely remained the same,” Nasr said in her acceptance speech, Fashionista reports. “It is to deliver the best in fashion and celebrate the culture that shapes it. It is to contextualize this moment and be a record of our time.”

Teyana Taylor took home the Virgil Abloh Award, presented by vice president of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at LVMH, Corey Smith. Presented by Lena Waithe, costume designer and consultant Shiona Turini was honored as the Stylist of the Year.
The evening also included a runway show highlighting the designs of Aaron Potts of A.Potts, Nicole Benefield of Nicole Benefield Portfolio and Jimmy Latouché of Latouché.

‘Who TF Did I Marry?’ TV Adaptation Is Officially In The Works

The viral Who TF Did I Marry? saga is coming soon to a TV screen near you. Natasha Rothwell will executive produce the project and Tareasa “Reesa Teesa” Johnson, the originator, will star in the show, per Variety.
The 50-part storytelling TikTok series blew up earlier this year for its riveting plot about Reesa’s relationship with her ex-husband. The videos totaled over eight hours in length and took viewers through a journey about the “pathological liar” of a husband she was dealing with as she uncovers the endless trail of lies he told her. The series earned Johnson more than 3 million followers and garnered over 450 million impressions across social media in a two-week period.

Rothwell, who is known for playing Kelli on HBO’s Insecure, obtained the rights to Who TF Did I Marry? through her production company, Big Hattie Productions, following a “competitive bidding war,” according to the outlet.

“CAN’T STOP. WON’T STOP. LFG,” the Emmy nominee captioned her post about the upcoming series.
Jerome McCoy, otherwise known as the man named “Legion” that the series is about, allegedly took calls that were not real during his role as vice president of a condiment company, a job Reesa also claims was a lie. The TikTok star also said “Legion” lied about moving to California, was divorced twice, pretended to have siblings, and much more.

Reesa Teesa sat down with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America back in March, where she detailed how she was deceived. “There were a lot of things in this story that were red flags… We thought it was hilarious that we matched on two different sites. This was a guy who I felt like, after having multiple conversations with, I was like, ‘Wow. Where have you been?'”

Tamar Braxton Blasts Jeremy “JR” Robinson For Allegedly Spending Her Money On Another Woman
Late last month, Tamar Braxton gifted Jeremy "JR" Robinson an extravagant chain for his birthday despite the two of them being single. Of course, the gesture left fans confused as to where the former pair currently stands, but up until recently, they appeared to be friends. Now, however, it looks like their relationship has taken a dramatic turn for the worse.

Recently, Braxton hopped on Instagram Live to put JR on blast after the Four Seasons in New Orleans charged her credit card. According to her, she wasn't there, and quickly called JR to sort things out. She claims he had an attitude when she called, and that the hotel told her the reservation was under “Mr. Jeremy Robinson and his guest Ms. Jay."

Frances Tiafoe in the US Open semifinals for 2nd time in 3 years

Two years ago, tennis player Frances Tiafoe became the first Black American man to reach the U.S. Open semifinals since Arthur Ashe did so in 1968. Now, Tiafoe is back in the U.S. Open semifinals after a 6-3, 6-7 (5) 6-3, 4-1 win over Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who retired in the fourth set.

Tiafoe will face fellow American Taylor Fritz on Sept. 6, setting up the first All-American Grand Slam semifinal since the 2005 U.S. Open and guaranteeing an American male in a Grand Slam final for the first time since the Wimbledon championships in 2009.
“It’s cool when those guys see me, they see me as, like, a role model, a guy they want to aspire to be,” Tiafoe said when asked about other Black players from around the world. “That’s a pretty cool seat to be in.”

“Obviously as you guys know, I’m not a guy who takes himself too serious by any means. It’s funny being in that seat but, at the same time, you have a responsibility when you’re out there … because things you do, those kids are going to mimic and want to be how you carry yourself, how you approach your game, how you compete with you out there, things you say in interviews,” Tiafoe explained. “They’re going to want to mimic that and be like that. It’s great.

“Then from a big-picture standpoint, I’ve got so many people that would never watch tennis a day in their life coming to matches because I’m playing. You know, you’ve seen so many cool people come out to watch, and just normal people that would just never really watch tennis and now are, like, fans of it because I’m playing it. It means a lot, and it’s helping the game. I genuinely think when I’m playing well it helps the sport, for sure.”

In other U.S. Open news, two Black players have reached the U.S. Open mixed doubles championship game tomorrow. Taylor Townsend and Donald Young hope to bring home the trophy and the $200,000 that goes with it on Sept. 4. Young plans to retire after the tournament.

Denzel Washington’s family takes center stage in ‘The Piano Lesson’

Denzel Washington, a powerhouse in Hollywood, is set to lead a historic family collaboration in the upcoming film adaptation of August Wilson’s renowned play “The Piano Lesson.” This project brings together the entire Washington family, marking the first time all of Denzel’s children will join him in a film endeavor. The film also continues Denzel’s longstanding connection with Wilson’s work, having starred in multiple adaptations of the legendary playwright’s creations.

Denzel’s roster of performances includes bringing stage roles to the silver screen, such as Don Pedro, the Prince of Arragon, in Kenneth Branaugh’s Much Ado About Nothing and his star turn as Macbeth in Joel Coen’s The Tragedy of Macbeth.
Denzel’s career is closely tied to Wilson, one of America’s most celebrated playwrights. Wilson’s plays, which explore the African American experience in the 20th century, have provided Denzel with some of his most powerful roles. Washington previously starred in and directed the 2016 film adaptation of “Fences,” another Wilson masterpiece, which earned him critical acclaim and multiple award nominations. His deep respect for Wilson’s work is evident, as he has been committed to bringing Wilson’s plays to a wider audience, both on stage and on screen.

“The Piano Lesson,” a Pulitzer Prize-winning play from Wilson’s ten-part “Pittsburgh Cycle,” tells the story of a brother and sister’s struggle over a family heirloom, a piano that symbolizes their shared history and legacy. The film adaptation — slated for release in November — promises to bring Wilson’s profound narrative to life with the Washington family’s talents at the forefront.

A family affair
The film adaptation of “The Piano Lesson” not only features Denzel but also his wife Pauletta and their four children: John David, Katia, Olivia and Malcolm. In a unique twist, Malcolm, the youngest son, takes on the role of director while Denzel serves as co-producer. This collaboration underscores the family’s deep-rooted connection to the arts and their commitment to storytelling.

John David, known for his standout performances in BlacKkKlansman and Tenet, will portray Boy Willie, a central character in the story. He previously played this role in the Broadway revival of “The Piano Lesson,” making this film adaptation a return to familiar, yet deeply significant, material. Malcolm’s twin sister, Olivia, and their mother, Pauletta, will share the portrayal of the same character at different ages, adding a personal touch to the narrative. Behind the scenes, Katia will serve as an executive producer, further solidifying the family’s influence on the project.

The legacy of Wilson and the Washington Family
Denzel has long been a champion of Wilson’s work, and his involvement in “The Piano Lesson” continues this legacy. Wilson’s plays have consistently challenged and enriched American theater, and Washington’s dedication to these stories highlights his commitment to showcasing Black narratives on the big screen. Through this family project, the Washingtons are not only preserving Wilson’s legacy but also creating new opportunities for powerful storytelling in Hollywood.

The Washington family’s collaboration on ‘The Piano Lesson” is a testament to their individual and collective talents, and the film is poised to be a poignant tribute to both the Washington family’s artistic legacy and Wilson’s timeless work. With a release date set for Nov. 8 in select theaters — followed by a Netflix release on Nov. 22 — audiences can anticipate a powerful narrative brought to life by a family dedicated to the craft.

Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei dies after being burned by her partner!
Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei has died at a Kenyan hospital where she was being treated after 80% of her body was burned in an attack by her partner. She was 33.
A spokesperson at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret city, Owen Menach, confirmed Cheptegei’s death on Thursday. Menach said the long-distance runner died early morning after all her organs failed. She had been fully sedated on admission at the hospital.

Cheptegei competed in the women’s marathon at the Paris Olympics less than a month before the attack. She finished in 44th place.
Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jeremiah ole Kosiom said Monday that Cheptegei’s partner, Dickson Ndiema, bought a jerrican of petrol, poured it on her and set her ablaze during a disagreement Sunday. Ndiema was also burned, and was being treated at the same hospital.

Menach said Ndiema was still in the intensive care unit with 30% burns, but was “improving and stable.”
Cheptegei’s parents said their daughter bought land in Trans Nzoia to be near the county’s many athletic training centers. A report filed by the local chief states that the two were heard fighting over the land where her house was built before the attack.

The Uganda Athletics Federation eulogized Cheptegei on the social platform X, writing, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our athlete, Rebecca Cheptegei early this morning who tragically fell victim to domestic violence. As a federation, we condemn such acts and call for justice. May her soul rest In Peace.”
Uganda Olympic Committee President Donald Rukare called the attack “a cowardly and senseless act that has led to the loss of a great athlete.”

In 2023, Ugandan Olympic runner and steeplechaser Benjamin Kiplagat was found dead with stab wounds.
In 2022, Kenyan-born Bahraini athlete Damaris Muthee was found dead, and a post-mortem examination said she had been strangled.

12-year-old reporter gets offered his own show after going viral during Democratic National Convention!

The 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, IL saw the party embrace social media creators and influencers, with one young pundit in particular gaining significant attention – 12-year-old Knowa De Baraso from Atlanta, GA.
De Baraso, a homeschooled student who lives with his mother, went viral after a video showed him debating with MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell over election fraud claims. De Baraso's quick-witted retort – "So your source is, 'Trust me, bro?'" – became a tagline that scored him notable looks on shows like "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and "The Breakfast Club." He even wowed viewers during a sit-down on Sky News, where he stressed the importance of government issues for his age group.

The humorous moment with Lindell also earned him an on-air meet-up with Roland S. Martin, who shared how impressed he was by De Baraso's work in the field. "I saw this brother's video... He's been kicking butt all over the place," the veteran journalist said before offering the rising star a show on his own Black Star Network. "I would be honored. I would love that," De Baraso responded before exchanging contact information with the former TV One correspondent.

De Baraso credited his political awakening to a 2022 meeting with Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, after which he became heavily involved in promoting Democratic candidates and progressive causes online. During his time at the DNC, he met with numerous high-profile names, including Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and Raphael Warnock.

Ultimately, De Baraso sees his social media activism as essential to protecting democracy – "The Breakfast Club" host Charlamagne Tha God even predicted that he could one day become the governor of Georgia. As De Baraso explained to Martin, his current plans are to start a podcast. "I just can't find a name," he admitted. "I have the equipment and everything ready."
