Naomi Campbell is like no other. She broke barriers and rewrote the rules. Fell down, got back up, and all in nine-inch heels. For the Harper’s BAZAAR September 2024 Icons issue, Campbell was photographed by Malick Bodian on a rooftop in Paris and styled by our style director at large, Carlos Nazario. Campbell spoke with Harper’s BAZAAR executive digital director Lynette Nylander, sharing her advice for the new vanguard of models, opening up about motherhood and traveling with her children and the tremendous pressure of being known as one of the first Black supermodels.
“If you were to stop people on the street and ask them to name a supermodel, chances are they’d say Naomi Campbell,” says Samira Nasr, Harper’s BAZAAR Editor-in-Chief. “Over the course of a boundary-breaking career, she has cemented her place in the collective consciousness as the ne plus ultra of supermodels. It’s no wonder she is currently the subject of an exhibition at London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. But don’t mistake it for a retrospective, a sign of someone looking back on a career that was; Naomi is Naomi because she is still walking and working as much as she ever has.”
On her modeling journey: “Barriers have to be broken. Challenges have to be met,” Campbell tells me of her modeling journey. “I just wanted to do the best work that I could do. [I figured] if I made a decision to be in this business, I would embrace it. I wanted to give it my best because my family definitely did not want me to do this.”
Her advice for the new vanguard of models: “I want them to have control of their image,” Campbell explains of the new vanguard she’s helping reach its potential.
“I want them to know that they are a part of something as well. Not just being hired for a job. That they have a story and a journey to share. Everything goes so quickly in our business. I love that in my time, we had real relationships with the designers. It wasn’t just when we were doing shows; we visited each other, we cared, because sometimes it’s kind of lonely. There were many lonely times, but we held each other up. I want to do the same,” she says.
On the tremendous pressure of being known as one of the first Black supermodels: “People think that you want to be the only one, but it’s not necessarily so,” Campbell explains. “I didn’t like being the first in a lot of things. … That’s why I wanted to celebrate us in the exhibition—Naomi Sims, Beverly Johnson, Iman, Bethann Hardison, Veronica Webb, Karen Alexander—because they were also before me.”
On motherhood and traveling with her children: “It’s the biggest joy,” she says. “The biggest blessing is to have these two innocent, beautiful souls and for me to be able to be their mother. I learn a lot each day. They’re good kids
“I definitely don’t take them from New York to London for a two-day shoot. That’s too much, but my kids love to travel. They must have known!” she says, laughing.
On her ongoing mission to encourage greater model diversity in the industry: “My purpose is bigger,” Campbell says. “My purpose is the African continent. My purpose is the emerging creatives. My purpose is to open this up for everybody. There’s so much talent out there that just doesn’t get given that opportunity.”
On welcoming a new generation of admirers reintroduced to her by way of the ‘90s and ‘00s nostalgia trend, including TikTok celebrities like Sabrina Bahsoon, a.k.a Tube Girl, and Khaby Lame, both of whom she has worked with and she says inspire her: “They’re always asking me what the ’90s were like. I’m just shocked they even know who I am!”

#RHOA: Marlo Hampton Claims ‘Karma’ Led To Kenya Moore’s Bravo Booting As Marc Daly Shockingly Says THIS About His Ex-Wife
Marlo Hampton is making it known that she’s reveling in the fact that Kenya Moore, won’t be returning for season 16 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta and thinks it’s “clearly karma” for the former housewife’s history with her. “God don’t play about his people…” said Hampton.
However, Kenya Moore’s ex-husband Marc Daly is offering a different take and shockingly defending the woman he once married.
In an Instagram Live session shared by the Bravo Shaderoom TikTok page on Aug. 15, Hampton suggested that Moore’s suspension from the show was Kenya’s karma. The Le’Archive clothing founder, who took a break from the show at the end of her Season 15 contract, claimed that Moore had been vocal about her strong opposition to her return to the hit series before the Season 16 cast was finalized.
“I don’t want anyone to get kicked off as a single mom with a child, ” said the reality star about Kenya. “But I do know that she was one of the people who was strongly against me not coming back. I just feel like God does not play about his people and what goes around comes around. “
“So, figure this out. Keep putting on your Batman outfit and going into Sally’s and showing people how discounted your products are,” she added referncing Kenya’s recent IG videos. “Now, I just feel that what goes around comes around.”
In a brief show of solidarity, Hampton, 48, mentioned that she wasn’t particularly pleased to see Moore out of work because of the suspension.
“No, I don’t feel good. I mean, I’m not her, so I don’t feel good about her not having a job and not working. But I feel that when you make your bed, like granny always said, ‘You got to lay in it,’” she added.
As previously reported, Moore reached a deal with Bravo producers in June, making the difficult decision to “take a break from the show for now,” following the revenge porn allegations levied against her by co-star Brittany Eady. She was suspended from filming in Season 16 of the hit series after she allegedly showed sexually explicit images of Eady during the opening of her inaugural hair salon in Atlanta. Additionally, a few sources claimed that Moore felt threatened by Eady.
Despite the backlash, the mother of one has maintained her innocence since she departed from the show. In an Instagram post shared in June, Moore told fans that the truth about the “false claims” would be revealed over time.

JAY-Z has announced a shake-up at Roc Nation as the record label has merged with Equity Distribution.
Equity was previously the distribution arm of the company, but they are now merging to form one single entity called Roc Nation Distribution, according to Billboard.
Despite the apparent change in focus, with Equity working with independent artists who wished to maintain ownership of their masters, Roc Nation will continue to sign new talent and strengthen its roster.
The merger will see one notable departure from Roc Nation, with co-president Shari Bryant stepping down from her role after five years with the company.
The company operates as a record label and management company, as well as a partner of the NFL overseeing the Super Bowl halftime show and the league’s social justice initiatives.
The label portion of Roc Nation boasts artists such as J. Cole, Rihanna, Jay Electronica and Vic Mensa as well as JAY-Z himself.
Roc Nation also manages the likes of A$AP Rocky, Megan Thee Stallion, DJ Khaled, Jadakiss and Alicia Keys.
Additionally, Roc Nation includes its own sports agency that advises athletes.
NBA players such as Kyrie Irving, Markelle Fultz and LaMelo Ball are represented by the agency, as are NFL stars Saquon Barkley, Jaire Alexander and C.J. Henderson.

Richard Lawson /Tina Knowles Divorce is FINAL!
Tina Knowles and Richard Lawson have peacefully settled their divorce after Knowles filed back in July 2023.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, both parties agreed that “irreconcilable differences have arisen between the parties which have led to the irremediable breakdown of the marriage, making it impossible for the parties to live together as husband and wife.”
Per the settlement, Tina was awarded a “2018 Tesla, a 2020 Bentley, the Matriarch Book ‘deal’ with Penguin Random House, a 1 percent interest in Kirby Beauty Management LLC, furniture and artwork in her possession, and all creative works, ideas, drafts and other accolades accumulated by her during their marriage.”
The 70-year-old was also awarded her L.A. and Texas home and furniture, jewelry, retirement accounts, and earnings she made since separating. Tina also has agreed to settle any credit card debt in her name and all outstanding balances regarding their household expenses.
As for Richard, he was awarded $300,000 by his now ex-wife as well as a 2021 Cadillac Escalade, his bank and retirement accounts, royalties owed to Richard Lawson Studios and all creative works. Like Knowles, he also gets to keep all of his jewelry, clothing, and rights to his SAG pension plan.
Both parties agreed that neither will receive spousal support.

Loni Love Shuts Down False Reports Of Feud With Tyler Perry
Loni Love took to Instagram on Wednesday to shut down false reports of a feud between her and Tyler Perry.
You may recall that after Tyler’s latest film, Divorce In The Black, received a zero percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Loni gently suggested that the entertainment mogul consider hiring Black writers and directors to help out on his films.
I love that Tyler is paying Black actors now I wish he would hire Black writers and directors that have experience to help him with his movies…
He could improve the movies & make them award worthy if he would stop trying to save money by doing the writing and directing himself.
During an interview with Keke Palmer, Tyler Perry addressed his critics, saying:
I know for a fact that what I’m doing is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing because for every one who is a critic, I have thousands of – used to be emails – of people saying, ‘This changed my life…Oh, my God!
You know me…Oh, my God you saw me. How did you know this about me and my family?’
He added, “Who are you to be able to say which Black story is important or should be told? Get out of here with that bulls**t!”

Skai Jackson Will Not Be Charged After Domestic Violence Arrest
Skai Jackson will not be charged after being arrested allegations of domestic violence due to lack of evidence.
Jackson and her boyfriend were seen on video having an altercation that turned physical last week at Universal CityWalk.
TMZ was told by The L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, “they’re declining to file charges because Skai has no criminal history, the alleged victim lacks injuries, and he’s refused to cooperate with prosecutors.”
Despite refusing to cooperate with authorities, Jackson was taken away where she was processed at the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station.
Jackson was apprehended by the police and released hours later. Both she and her boyfriend denied any physical altercation—though the video showed otherwise. The two say they are happily engaged and pregnant.
“Based on the initial investigation, it was determined Ms. Jackson was the primary aggressor and was arrested for misdemeanor spousal battery,” an LASD spokesperson told the Los Angeles Times in a statement.
VIBE reported on Jackson’s arrest earlier this week saying, “In 2016 at age 14, the Disney Channel star was named to TIME Magazine’s Most Influential Teens list for her advocacy against cyberbullying. Leaning into more mature roles, last year, she starred in the film Sheroes as Daisy, who is introduced as “The Lost Soul” and described as a drug user exploring her sexuality.”

Usher Reveals Neck Injury After Posptponing More Shows
Usher, the eight-time Grammy-winning artist, has announced a delay in the start of his "Past Present Future" tour due to a neck injury he sustained during rehearsals. The 45-year-old singer initially postponed his opening night concert planned for August 14 and subsequently rescheduled two additional performances on August 16 and 17.
In a heartfelt Instagram post on Thursday, August 15, Usher revealed, "Earlier this week, I suffered an injury to my neck while rehearsing to provide my fans with the greatest USHER show of all time." Despite hopes that physical therapy and medical treatment would make it possible for him to perform, his doctors advised against any shows that week.
To his fans' relief, Usher's doctors are optimistic about his recovery with appropriate rest, giving him the green light to commence the tour in Washington, DC, on August 20. "The good news is that the doctors are saying that with appropriate rest and treatment, I should be ready to commence the tour in Washington DC on August 20th," he shared.
The rescheduled dates for the Atlanta shows at State Farm Arena are now set for December, with the August 14 show moved to December 9, the August 16 show to December 10, and the August 17 performance to December 12.
The decision to postpone comes after Usher completed his highly praised "My Way: The Las Vegas Residency" in December 2023 and a stunning performance at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show earlier this year. His new tour, spanning North America and Europe, promises to deliver "a bit of the past, some of the present and a unique look into the future," providing fans with an unforgettable experience.
In a since-deleted Instagram post, Usher expressed his dedication to providing the best possible experience for his fans, saying, "For my 30-plus year career, 100% of my blood, sweat and tears has gone into putting on the best performance and creating a memorable experience for my fans." He emphasized the importance of healing to maintain his high standards, stating, "The last thing I want to ever do is disappoint you, the fans who have been eagerly waiting for this tour to start."

All-white jury convicts Susan Lorincz in the death of Ajike “A.J.” Owens
Florida’s "stand your ground” law did not spare Susan Lorincz, a white woman, as she was found guilty of killing her Black neighbor. The statute allows citizens to use deadly force as a means of self-defense in regulated circumstances without facing prosecution.
On Friday (Aug. 16), the woman was convicted by an all-white jury of first-degree felony manslaughter for fatally wounding Ajike “A.J.” Owens during a June 2, 2023, dispute. The Ocala residents had allegedly been at odds for three years as the 60-year-old regularly complained about her young neighbors' boisterous play outdoors near her property.
On that fateful day last summer, Owens’ son, who was 10 years old at the time, told her that Lorincz had berated him and friends, thrown a roller skate and struck him, and then swung an umbrella at them. The then-35-year-old went to the woman’s front door to confront her. As she stood outside with her son beside her, a single shot from a.380-caliber handgun was fired through the door. The mother of four later succumbed to her injuries.
Lorincz claimed the shooting was in self-defense. She was arrested and charged with first-degree felony manslaughter with a firearm, plus battery, two counts of assault, and culpable negligence. She entered a written not guilty plea on July 10 while being held on a $154,000 bond.
During the trial, prosecutor Rich Buxman defended Owens, saying that the deceased woman’s actions did not yield lethal force. “It’s not a crime to bang on somebody’s door. It’s not a crime to yell,” he told jurors. “There was no imminent danger whatsoever when she fired that gun.”
In a 911 call, Lorincz reported two Black and one Latino kid for trespassing as they played in an area near both her and Owens’ homes. She told the dispatcher, “I’m just sick of these children,” according to the Tampa Bay Times. Officers were en route to her home when she gunned down her neighbor. When she was interviewed by detectives following the fatal shooting, she alleged, “I heard Ms. Owens say, 'I'm going to [expletive] kill you.'... I heard the door crack, and when I heard that door crack, I fired.'"
But Buxman argued that simply was not the case. Instead, he said that Lorincz acted out of anger. He also slammed the notion that she faced an impending threat of violence from the slain mother. “Ms. Owens was banging on the door, telling the defendant to come out. Belief that there was an immediate or imminent danger, such that deadly force was necessary at that time, was simply unreasonable because there was no imminent danger,” he said.
Furthermore, in his closing statement, he illustrated that if “Miss Owens would somehow have managed to bust through this locked, deadbolted metal door, entered her house, and started coming at her, the defendant may have had a right to shoot because that danger would have then been imminent."
Pamela Dias, Owens’ mother, told ABC News that the guilty verdict brought a sense of peace. "Today, our family can sleep a little better knowing that Susan Lorincz will no longer be a threat to our community, especially to my grandchildren," she said after learning the woman's fate. "While this verdict does not bring my daughter AJ back to us, it does bring a sense of peace that we have long sought," added the grieving mother.
In a released statement, attorney Ben Crump said, “This verdict is a critical step in securing justice for AJ and her family. While nothing can erase the pain they've endured, today’s decision sends a clear message that senseless violence will be met with accountability. We will continue to stand by AJ’s family as they heal and fight for a future where no family has to experience such devastating loss.”

The estate of late singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes is moving forward with a complaint filed against Donald Trump and entities tethered to his reelection efforts over the unauthorized use of a song co-written by the artist.
As Friday (Aug. 16) drew to a close, Isaac Hayes III, son of the revered musician, tweeted that a copyright infringement complaint had been filed in the Northern District of Georgia. Attorney James L. Walker, Jr., identified Trump, the Donald J. Trump for President campaign, the Republican National Committee, Turning Point USA, the National Rifle Association of America, and two other organizations as defendants associated with the offense.
The convicted felon, the RNC, and his campaign were notified on Aug. 11 that continued use of the 1996 song, “Hold On, I’m Coming,” was representative of them “willfully and brazenly engaged in copyright infringement” despite being repeatedly asked not to do so.
They were given an Aug. 16 deadline to cease and desist any use of the song, remove all videos featuring the song, release an official statement by the Trump campaign acknowledging that the singer’s estate did not authorize the use of his song nor endorse the politician, and pay the discounted $3,000,000 licensing fee. As expressed in the notice, “The normal fee for these infringements will be 10 times as much if we litigate, starting at $150,000 per use.”
Hayes III appeared on CNN’s “First of All With Victor Blackwell” on Saturday (Aug. 17), where he and Walker discussed their pursuit of a judge’s permanent injunction to put an end to the song’s use by Trump and affiliates. According to Hayes III, the song has been used at least 134 times since May 2022, when the former president was first notified that he was not authorized to use the iconic record.
The Fanbase co-founder and CEO said Trump used the classic soul record as recently as last week during a rally as his exit theme song. Walker further stated that a member of the Trump organization previously claimed they were given a license to utilize the track but failed to produce the alleged proof.
“I don’t want that song associated with Donald Trump. I don’t want people to hear ‘Hold On, I’m Coming’ and think of Donald Trump because of the nature of the character of the person that he is,” said the 3x Grammy Award-winning artist’s son. He said the legal recourse is not politically motivated; instead, it is an effort to preserve his father’s legacy, noting that the former commander-in-chief’s behavior is not that of which Hayes, Jr., would have supported.
“I’m the brother to seven sisters, seven Black women. Donald Trump has been found liable of sexual abuse, he says horrible things about women, he says horrible things about Vice President Kamala Harris, and I know my father would not want Donald Trump or a man that speaks like that, especially about Black women, using his music to run a campaign,” said the businessman. “It’s more to do with the fact of the individual, the character of Donald Trump, that we don’t want associated with our brand and our family,” he added.

Alain Delon, the handsome star of ‘60s and ‘70s European cinema dubbed “the French Frank Sinatra” and “the male Brigitte Bardot,” has died at 88.
His family confirmed his death to the Agence France-Presse news agency. He had previously suffered a stroke in 2019.
“Alain Fabien, Anouchka, Anthony, as well as (his dog) Loubo, are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their father. He passed away peacefully in his home in Douchy (in France’s Val de Loire region),” the statement read.

But the star was often embroiled in controversy, and openly acknowledged having friends in the Mafia underworld.
“Most of them the gangsters I know … were my friends before I became an actor,” he told the New York Times in a 1970 interview. “I don’t worry about what a friend does. Each is responsible for his own act. It doesn’t matter what he does.”

Along the way, he won four Daytime Emmys for his hosting work.

“She was so focused on preserving my innocence. My creativity. Because she knew what the world is — that you don’t get that back,” she added, as she now reminisces with understanding her mother’s point of view.
In addition to her past decision amid the split, Zoë reflected on her childhood as the daughter of two famous parents. That reality was very much present in her dealings with those who were out to use Bonet or Kravitz to elevate themselves to a fame level.

In the court filings, The Dream’s attorney, Desirée F. Moore, argued that the lawsuit is flawed, labeling it a “shotgun pleading” that lacks specific details against the singer. This is a key reason The Dream is requesting the case be thrown out entirely.
Moreover, The Dream wants his record label, Contra Paris, LLC, to be removed from the lawsuit, citing a lack of personal jurisdiction in California. The legal response also criticizes the complaint for allegedly using “destructive” and “racial stereotypes” against The Dream, further complicating the matter.
“Before the complaint raises a single relevant allegation, Plaintiff dedicates several pages to irrelevant gossip designed to harm Diamant’s children and impugn his marital history; unsubstantiated allegations of past violence (none of which resulted in any proceedings or findings against Diamant); false depictions of an absent father; and racist insinuations that Diamant is affiliated with a street gang,” the filing states.
The Dream’s legal team is also attempting to dismiss the rape allegations, arguing that under California law, rape cannot be pursued as a separate civil cause of action.
Moore highlighted the issues with the lawsuit in a statement, saying, “Plaintiff’s complaint contains dozens of allegations that are utterly irrelevant to her sexual battery and sex trafficking claims and are, instead, designed solely to smear Diamant’s name and reputation. Absent any facts alleging plaintiff’s involvement in a ‘commercial sex act,’ her cause of action for sex trafficking against Diamant must be dismissed.”
