#RHOA: Riley Burruss' Next-Level College Graduation Party
On the eve of Mother’s Day 2024, The Real Housewives of Atlanta mom hosted an extravagant college graduation party for her oldest daughter, Riley Burruss. The event was held at the Self Made Studio venue in Atlanta, just days before Riley hit the New York University commencement stage.
Attendees included Kandi’s husband and Riley’s stepdad, Todd Tucker; Riley’s stepsister, Kaela Tucker; and family matriarch Mama Joyce Jones. Of course, there were a few Bravolebrities in the mix, like RHOA’s Porsha Williams, Eva Marcille, Shamea Morton, and Monyetta Shaw-Carter, all of whom were treated to custom drinks, live music, and cupcakes decorated with Riley's photos.
The event space was completely decked out in NYU colors, violet and white, and featured multiple banners honoring Riley’s achievement. One of the posters showed a younger Riley in a power pose with the words “Day 1 CEO” written above. There was also a large photo wall that showed Riley rocking NYU-branded gear as well as her cap and gown.
“We are so appreciative of our village and for those who supported Riley,” Kandi said during a speech before turning her direction to Riley. “You finished what you started, you know what I mean? A lot of people don’t do that. You started college and you finished… You did it. And [Riley’s] not one of those people that I had to call, checking on her all the time, being like, ‘Did you do your homework?’ She did it on her own… I am proud of you.”
Todd, who married Kandi in 2014, echoed his wife.“Riley, I am so, so proud of you. Always been a brilliant kid, always been smart,” he said. “You were born to do this, so congratulations. [You] graduated college and I’m excited to see your next chapter.”
Riley Burruss says she's pursuing a career in music business
The RHOA daughter announced her college acceptance in late 2019, months before her high school graduation. Riley said she had applied to other schools around the country, but NYU was her first choice.
“Well, I feel ecstatic,” Riley said in a 2019 video posted on her YouTube channel. “I mean, it was the only school I really even wanted to go to. I only even thought of applying to other schools as backup plans. That was the only school in my mind. So just to see that I got in and it’s for sure and I can just go and be on my path, I’m very excited.”
Riley began her college journey studying nutrition, but eventually changed her major to music business. She spoke about her career aspirations during a 2022 episode of the AOL web series In the Know, explaining why she was so drawn to the entertainment biz.
“I feel like I’m in my rebranding era, to be honest,” she said. “I want to work in the music industry, on the business side… Of course, [my mom] played a huge role in that, just growing up, seeing her do music, and then also work on the backend. Just seeing her do everything by herself and just killing it is what inspired me.”
Riley reflected on her college experience back in February when she was preparing to kick off her last semester as an undergraduate.
“Time has litterally flown by,” she said in a TikTok video. “This past senior year has just been so confusing. It’s, like, OK, I’m doing the school work [and] having to figure out the future after school, it’s a lot. I lowkey feel like I have attachment issues with school because since I’ve never been without it, it’s like, I don’t even know what I’m gonna do. It’s genuinely gonna feel so weird."
She continued: “Right now it feels like so much pressure to choose a lifelong thing. I know I’m gonna work with music and everything but to find one specific route, it’s just… I know a lot of us seniors are stressing right now, but it’s OK, we got this. We just gotta take deep breaths and we’re gonna get through this.”
#MusicNews: Bilal Set To Release ‘Live at Glasshaus’ Album Featuring Questlove, Common, Robert Glasper & Burniss Travis
Grammy-winning artist Bilal is set to release a new album, Live at Glasshaus, featuring Questlove, Common, Robert Glasper and Burniss Earl Travis II. The record due out during Black Music Month on June 14 via Glasshaus Presents is previewed by “Something To Hold.”
Bilal — who’s collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z, Beyonce, Erykah Badu and more — steps ito the spotlight on Live at Glasshaus alongside master players drummer Questlove, vocalist Common, pianist Robert Glasper and bassist Burniss Travis. The set captured on December 2, 2023 at Brooklyn’s Glasshaus is produced/directed by Jarrett Wetherell.
“I felt comfortable to create because I knew I had some of the best motherfuckers in the world playing,” Bilal said of the performance in front of 100 fans. “I like intimate vibes where everyone’s drawing off the energy in the room. When you’re up there making something and giving, with the people up there listening and receiving, it creates this circular motion of energy, it’s a timeless moment.”
A press release further detailed Live at Glasshaus.
The setlist is golden: Nine songs stretched into fresh shapes and split up by interludes from Questlove and Common, whom he affectionately refers to as “my big brother” onstage. There are the expected hits like “Soul Sista” and “Sometimes” but what makes this even more special is the inclusion of two tracks from Love For Sale—Bilal’s lost early 2000s masterpiece, which went on to reach near-mythic status online. In revisiting these songs, “Something To Hold” and “All For Love,” Bilal reclaims the joy in artistic horizons once-dashed.
#RHOA: Travis Scott And Live Nation Settle Nine Out Of 10 Astroworld Wrongful Death Lawsuits
Nearly three years after the tragic Astroworld Festival crowd crush, Travis Scott and Live Nation have settled nine of the 10 wrongful death lawsuits stemming from the event.
During a court hearing today (May 8), Live Nation lawyer Neal Manne revealed that all but one of the legal claims were resolved. Per ABC 7, the pending lawsuit involves the family of 9-year-old Ezra Blount, the youngest victim of the concert tragedy. It’s still active, with discussions about the trial scheduled for next week.
The conditions of the settlements remain undisclosed due to a gag order, preventing attorneys from commenting further on the proceedings.
The disastrous event occurred on Nov. 5, 2021 at NRG Park in Houston, Texas during a performance meant to promote Scott’s third studio album, ASTROWORLD. It resulted in eight immediate deaths, while two more individuals succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
Notably, the legal development followed after the first civil suit was delayed due to an appeal from Apple on May 2. The tech giant argued that free speech rights should shield it from liability for livestreaming the concert. Scott was expected to stand trial on May 6.
“[Our] biggest concern that night: Safety of the kids up against the barricade at the stage,” Houston Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Larry Satterwhite warned in 2019 after the second annual Astroworld Festival. “[We] need more ways to get to the middle of the crowd and get to the kids that have trouble in the middle of the crowd. There were kids who were up against the barricade who were experiencing crowd crush and turning blue.”
Scott will start the U.K. and European leg of his “UTOPIA: CIRCUS MAXIMUS TOUR” in June. The trek is expected to make stops in Prague, Cologne, Milan, and Hamburg, to name a few cities.
#BoxOfficeNews: ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Reigns Over the Box Office with $131 Million Opening
A new Kingdom reigned over the box office this weekend. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes — the latest chapter in the iconic Planet of the Apes franchise — took the No. 1 spot with an estimated $58.5 million opening at the domestic box office this weekend, exceeding industry expectations.
This is the second biggest domestic opening in the current Apes series and the biggest opening of director Wes Ball’s career.
The film — which stars Freya Allan, Owen Teague, and Kevin Durand — was a hit around the world notching $131.2 million worldwide for its debut.
“It is a great result – a testament to the quality of the movie, the love and affinity for the franchise and it is a great way to kick-start the summer box office,” commented Tony Chambers, EVP of Theatrical Distribution.
Kingdom follows three groundbreaking films (2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes), which have brought in a combined $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office. It also acts as a “kind of a prequel and a sequel” in that it falls after the last three films, but before the events of the 1968 classic, according to Ball.
“We gave it a new spirit, a new character, a younger character, who’s going to rediscover a world with us as the audience,” Ball said.
The new film — which takes place many generations after War and tells the story of a young ape’s harrowing journey across a new empire — was also a hit with critics.
Kingdom is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with critics praising its innovative special effects, scale, and cinematic beauty while proclaiming it one of the best editions in the franchise.
“This movie is built for that great collective dream that we all enter when we go to a theater together. It’s meant to be big,” Ball said. “You want to immerse yourself in this world that is just incredibly rich and visual.”

Shaunie Henderson Clarifies Remarks About Ex Shaquille O'Neal In Her Memoir
Shaunie Henderson is setting the record straight. The ex-wife of Shaquille O'Neal claims in a new interview that her remarks about her being unsure if she's ever loved the NBA legend was taken out of context.
"My book is my truth," she told PEOPLE on Friday, May 10, referring to her memoir "Undefeated: Changing the Rules and Winning On My Own Terms". "When I was talking to my friend yesterday, I was like, developing an opinion and a comment from content with no context will show you a lot of people's intelligence and unintelligence, right?"
The "Basketball Wives" executive producer went on saying, "There was no context to just that one quote that I said, and I think that sadly, people are taking my words out of context." She added, "I'm not a word girl. I'm a character girl, and since I've left the marriage of Shaquille, my character has spoken for itself."
Shaunie noted that she "can't speak for" Shaq or "why he would run with" the headline on social media. She, however, emphasized, "it's my book, my truth, and it's my legacy."
In the book, Shaunie wrote, "I was in love with the idea of building a life together. I truly did enjoy spending time with him. [NBA] road trips allowed me to be with my husband and experience the NBA life for a little while." Shaunie, however, defended him while citing the challenges he faced balancing fame, wealth, and family.
"He was trying to be a world-famous, thirty-something multimillionaire with thousands of women throwing themselves at him, and people in general begging just to be in his presence, while being a husband and a father simultaneously," she said of the retired basketball player, whom she married from 2002 to 2009. "How could anyone possibly know how to do that?"
Catching wind of the remarks, Shaq responded in an Instagram post on May 8. "I understand… I wouldn't have been in love with me either," the 52-year-old basketball icon. "Wishing you all the best [heart emoji]. All love, Shaq."
MTV Hits Pause On Movie And TV Awards But Promises A Grand Return In 2025
The MTV Movie & TV Awards, a staple in pop culture since 1992, has been put on hiatus this year. According to a spokesperson, the ceremony will "return with a reimagined format in 2025." The decision follows the show's recent hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic and challenges in recent years.
The show's ratings have declined in recent years, with the two post-pandemic shows hosted by Leslie Jones and Nikki Glaser, and Vanessa Hudgens and Tayshia Adams, respectively. Despite being hosted by A-list stars like Eddie Murphy and Will Smith during its prime, the show has lost some allure.
In 2023, the ceremony was derailed by the Writers Guild of America strike, resulting in host Drew Barrymore pulling out and a pre-recorded virtual ceremony without a host. Similarly, the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards was canceled due to the Israel-Gaza conflict.
The reasons behind this year's hiatus are unclear, but potential factors include the impact of strikes and the ongoing war in the Middle East. However, MTV has assured that the awards show is not permanently canceled and will return in a refreshed format next year.
The MTV Movie & TV Awards has been a showcase for pop culture excellence, and the 2025 edition promises to be a reimagined experience that reflects the evolving landscape of entertainment.

Halle Bailey shared the joy of being a mom on her first Mother's Day. Taking to social media, "The Little Mermaid (2023)" actress gave fans a look at a new tattoo of her son's name.
The 24-year-old shared a photo of the ink on Instagram Story on Sunday, May 12. It reads "Halo" in red, cursive script on her wrist.
In the caption, the Chloe X Halle member wrote, "I got my first tattoo yesterday for mother's day." She continued, "In honor of my baby halo."
Hours prior to that, Halle treated her followers to a sweet video compilation of Halo, whom she quietly welcomed with her beau DDG last year. The tribute began with never-before-seen videos of her at the hospital after giving birth to her baby.
There were also clips of Halle and DDG holding the newborn. In the accompanying message, the proud mom raved, "my first mother's day [red heart emoji] the greatest love i've ever known."
The post did not go unnoticed by Halle's rapper boyfriend, DDG. In the comment section, the rapper gushed, "The best mom ever!" adding a red heart emoji.
Recently, Halle opened up about her battle with severe postpartum depression following the birth of her son. "Halo is a miracle. He's perfect. He's beautiful. But the only thing that's been hard for me is feeling normal in my own body. I feel like a completely different person when I look in the mirror," she said of her baby.
Despite the bliss of welcoming her first child with DDG in December 2023, Halle's introduction to motherhood has been marred by "severe, severe postpartum depression." She admitted, "It's to the point where it's really bad... It's hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to kind of freak out."
Halle "didn't realize how serious of a thing it actually was." Fortunately, she experienced moments of respite. "There are moments where you come up for air, and they feel like the most beautiful things," she said.

Gayle King's 'Fav Daughter' Kirby Bumpus Welcomes Second Baby — 'Fav Granddaughter' Grayson
"Best Mother’s Day EVER," King captioned a post full of family images on Instagram
Gayle King is celebrating the “Best Mother’s Day EVER” with a new granddaughter by her side!
On Sunday, May 12, the CBS Mornings co-host revealed that her daughter Kirby Bumpus welcomed a baby girl named Grayson.
“Best Mother's Day EVER!! My fav daughter @kirbybump & husband Virgil Miller welcomed their (fav) daughter and now Luca is a big brother,” King wrote of her family and her 2-year-old grandson, Luca.
“Fav GRANDAUGHTER GRAYSON has arrived!” She continued.
Sunday also marked a special day for the baby’s mother, as King noted in her caption that Kirby celebrated her birthday over the weekend. “So much to celebrate! With people I love the most... fav son @willgb3 and his lovely fiancée @elisemariesmith,” added the journalist.
King is a longtime mother of two, as she shares Kirby, 38, and William Bumpus Jr., 37, with her ex-husband William Bumpus, whom she was married to from 1982 to 1993.
She first became a grandmother in September 2021 when Kirby welcomed Luca. "I wanted to be a grandmother for a long time, and it's really something when you see your own child become a parent," she revealed on air at the time.
"I am so nuts about him. And then I was holding him, Kirby goes, 'You know, you have to support his neck.' Uh, okay! I actually know how to do this!"
As for King's latest family photos shared to Instagram over the weekend, it appears Luca is already showing love to his little sister.
In King’s post, she and her daughter can be seen wearing colorful dresses with baby Grayson sitting between them. Other images show Luca smiling at his grandmother as she holds Grayson, the whole family posing together and Luca staring proudly at his newborn sister.
Several fans and friends celebrated along with King, including Maria Shriver, Tina Knowles and CBS' Vladimir Duthiers. Knowles wished King a happy Mother's Day in the comment section of the images, calling her an "amazing mother" and adding: "Love you, Gayle.❤️"
It's been a major year so far for the King family, as back in February, the journalist shared that her son William was officially engaged to Elise Smith. In an Instagram post at the time, King took fans "behind the scenes of the proposal," in which she got a little help from pal Oprah Winfrey while orchestrating the moment.
“It has happened! Favorite son @willgb3 has found his person,” King wrote in the caption, “and I now have a favorite daughter-in-law to be: The lovely @elisemariesmith!”
King added that “a lot of planning went into this moment” — before joking “there were a lot of cooks in the kitchen.”
Drake Allegedly Paid Kendrick Lamar Associate $150K For Information On Fiancée Whitney Alford
Drake allegedly paid a rapper $150K for any information on Kendrick Lamar‘s fiancée, Whitney Alford, and he’s exposing how it all went down. The Art of Dialogue shared the audio circulated around the internet on Sunday (May 12) which saw Coolee Bravo, a rapper reportedly associated with K. Dot, speak about the offer. Bravo detailed his confusion regarding the request and asserted that he would never turn his back on a fellow countryman for “a Canadian outsider.” But he revealed that he did cooperate to a certain extent: Bravo claims to have taken the money and fed Drizzy’s camp false information regarding Whitney and Kendrick’s relationship.
“[Drake] sent some ni**as to Atlanta not knowing—See, this is why I say Kendrick f**ked him up bad,” Bravo said as he began laughing. “He tried to come down here and get some information on Kendrick… I can’t get no information on Kendrick because I’m only tied to his friend named L.”
He went on, “So they come to me and they try to give one of my little homies $100,000. I say, ‘What they asking for?’ and they say, ‘They wanna know something about Kendrick… what do you know about Whitney and all that sh*t?’ [I said to myself] ‘Whitney is [in New York] with [Kendrick] but mind you that’s a bombshell—they don’t know that. Drake talking all that sh*t about, ‘Why you live in New York?’ I said, ‘Ohhhh, they stupid.’ So, I said, ‘Take the money, I’m a tell them a lie.'”
Bravo continued and claimed that he told them that the DAMN rapper was still in Los Angeles, separated from Whitney. He then claimed that they gave him the money, and then he shared $50,000 “with his ni**as.” Coolee then explained that when “Family Matters” dropped, he and his friends listened to the song and laughed, calling Drake “stupid.”
It should be noted that Coolee Bravo’s X/Twitter account was deleted on Monday (May 13) following his claims.
DJ Akademiks has described “Family Matters” as the “nuclear option,” the song that was supposedly supposed to end the Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud in the former’s favor. “Family Matters” served as a response to Lamar’s “Euphoria” and “6:16 in LA.” The track’s main thematic points accused K. Dot of using Baby Keem as his ghostwriter, cheating on his fiancée, allegedly assaulting Whitney, and claiming that Dave Free is the actual father of Kendrick’s kids.
But as we all know now, Lamar would release “Meet the Grahams” thirty minutes after “Family Matters” and snuff out any momentum Drake thought he had.
Marlon Wayans Reveals Mother’s ‘Jealous’ Influence on Decision Not to Marry
*For any man, a good woman is hard to find. For Marlon Wayans, a good woman can’t compare to his mother, Elvira Wayans.
With that in mind, the “Wayans Bros.” star opted to stay away from jumping the broom, under the belief that the matriarch would be jealous of his wife, according to Sandra Rose.
“I never got married, because I never wanted my mother to be jealous of a woman. I never wanted my mother to feel second to any woman,” Wayans told The New York Times, adding his mother was “one of five reasons” he never tied the knot. The funnyman currently shares two sons, Kai and Shawn, with his former longtime partner Angelica Zackery.
Elvira was a fixture in Wayan’s life until her death at the age of 81 in 2020, a moment he admits hit him hard.
“My mother’s death broke me,” the 51-year-old actor/comedian confessed. “It shattered me into a million pieces, because that was my girl.”
Prior to Elvira’s passing, Wayans recalled her being “very needy.” In their final moments together, the pair discussed his unmarried status before he imparted his last words to his mother.
“I told my mother on her deathbed, ‘I never got married because I always wanted you to be my No. 1 girl.’ Those were my last words. I said, ‘Take that to heaven with you,’” he shared.
Elvira Wayans’ death came three years before Wayans lost his father, Howell Wayans, in March 2023 as well as 58 other loved ones in recent years. Describing the loss of his parents as “biblical,” the funnyman mentioned how the tragedies served as inspirations for his latest comedy special, “Good Grief.” The Amazon Prime event is set to premier on June 6.
“I think as a comedian, I’m getting to the good stuff,” Wayans told The Times. “When you talk about real-life pain, like parents passing, and you can get through that set and you can still be irreverent, edgy, crazy, silly, thought-provoking and vulnerable, I think that’s growth.
“I miss my parents dearly, but I’m a different human with my parents gone than I was when they were here,” he continued. “Now I’m a man. I don’t have parents anymore, so I live differently. I understand the quality of life.”

*Michael Jordan’s new health clinic launched on May 7 in his hometown of Wilmington, North Carolina. The NBA legend attended the grand opening event and became emotional while addressing the crowd.
“It’s good to be home, first and foremost,” Jordan said, FadeAway World reports.
“That’s what this clinic is about, when the families are not able to support, we’re there to support. Doesn’t have any money, doesn’t matter, we’re going to do whatever we can to support you because that’s what happened to me. That’s where I got it from,” he continued.
“So, we did it in Charlotte and now we’re going to do it here in Wilmington,” Jordan added. “Which makes it even more special because this is where I came from and no matter how you see Michael Jordan, this is where I started, this is where I’m always going to be a part of.”
The Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic is located on Greenfield St.
In 2021, Jordan announced he donated $10M to open two new health clinics around Wilmington, NC.
The clinics focus on bringing primary care to the uninsured, underinsured, and marginalized communities. This is the second time Jordan has partnered with Novant Health. He previously donated money to open two family clinics in Charlotte.
”Everyone should have access to quality health care, no matter where they live, or whether or not they have insurance.’ Jordan said previously in a statement. “Wilmington holds a special place in my heart and it’s truly gratifying to be able to give back to the community that supported me throughout my life.’”
Jordan was his mother, Deloris, and several dignitaries for last week’s ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Wilmington clinic. According to FadeAway World, work has begun on the second clinic near the Creekwood South community on Princess Place Drive.
In 2019, Charlotte saw the opening of two clinics, which collectively served over 4,500 patients during their initial two years of operation.

McDonald’s Introduces $5 Meal Deal to Attract Customers Affected by Recent Price Hikes
McDonald’s is gearing up to introduce a $5 meal deal aimed at winning back lower-income customers who have found recent menu prices unaffordable. This new budget-friendly option is expected to offer a choice between a McChicken or McDouble, accompanied by fries and a drink.
The move comes as prices at McDonald’s have surged, with items like an $18 Big Mac and $6 hash browns at some locations deterring cost-conscious diners. The $5 meal deal seeks to provide a more accessible dining option without compromising the quality and taste that customers expect from McDonald’s.
At present, purchasing a McChicken or McDouble along with fries and a drink a la carte at a McDonald’s in a high-cost area like Times Square could set a customer back significantly more. For instance, a McChicken sandwich alone costs $5.59, and a McDouble is priced at $5.79 at these locations. Additionally, a small side of fries is $4.49, and a small drink costs $3.19.
Details on when and where the $5 meal deal will be available have yet to be announced.
The actor reportedly suffered some swelling to the face and left eye, and went to the hospital for treatment.
