#FASHIONFILES: Dolce & Gabbana Spring-Summer 2024 Campaign by Steven Meisel
Dolce & Gabbana [IG] taps ace photographer Steven Meisel [IG] for a sensual but very sophisticated Spring-Summer 2024 ad campaign starring a large human gaggle of talent.
Historically, Dolce & Gabbana has always liked crowds, and this new campaign is no exception. Posers include Akbar Shamji, Habib Masovic, Jackson Jarrell, Lulu Tenney, Nora Attal, Rosalieke Fuchs, Vivienne Rohner and Yoesry Detre.
Designers Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana work with art director Fabien Baron and stylist Karl Templer to create an atmosphere rich with high-class swagger, penetrating eye confidence, and an attitude that says “judge me at your own risk — because I will take you down.”
In America, we would say that this club has street smarts. Sort of like a billionaire friend of mine who threw chairs at other guys on the trading floor at Solomon. Yes, he was sent to detention but failed to reform his ways. And he made way too much money for the firm. So they lived with him — and nobody messed with him.
Of course, with Steven Meisel [IG] on photography, the images will have these ingredients because Meisel often plays high-low with his human subjects. As a result, there are layers of meaning and interpretation that seep out of the images and into our own minds. They are created to be mildly disruptive, another characteristic that makes them interesting and one that Meisel understands deeply.
In the case of Dolce & Gabbana, they are hands-down on an interesting path to unlock their total success capacity. A soul is emerging in the brand that was not there before — consistently absent and for years.
What I love about Dolce & Gabbana is that their garden is an Italian garden in the same way Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli are Italian gardens. But they are planting different crops growing in different parts of Italy and Sicily and Sardinia — from Rome to Milan to Florence and Venice.
To date they are not tripping over each other, even if we add Armani and Valentino the the mix. Yes, Versace, too. Rubbing elbows? Perhaps in a couple cases, but it’s not a brawl.
One important brand is playing this Italian game with no chair to even hit “start the music” — Brand X. In the midst of cost-cutting, we hope they don’t cut up whatever heart was left in this iconic Italian brand.

#MusicNews: Marlena Shaw, legendary "California Soul" singer, dies at 81
Legendary jazz singer Marlena Shaw, known for her songs "California Soul" and "Woman of the Ghetto" died at the age of 81 on Friday, her daughter announced in a video on Facebook.
"It's with a very heavy heart for myself and my family I announce that our beloved mother, your beloved icon and artist Marlena Shaw has passed away," Marla Bradshaw, her daughter, said. "She went listening to some of her favorite songs."
Bradshaw said she did not want to go into too many details but wanted to assure fans her mother's death "was peaceful" and that the family was "at peace."
The musician — who influenced music in the jazz, soul, disco and R&B genres — rose to popularity in the 1960s after she was noticed by the Chess Records label. She sang her recognizable "California Soul" with the label before switching to a more jazz-oriented label.
Shaw's music spanned generations and was often featured and sampled in popular media, TV commercials and other songs. Her lyrics often communicated the strength of the Black American community and Black women at a time when there was a great racial divide in the country and its politics.
In total, Shaw put together 17 albums with eight different record labels.
Verve Records, who she worked with in 1987, put out a statement about Shaw's death, celebrating her contribution to the label's history.
"We are saddened by the passing of Marlena Shaw, a wonderful singer whose 'California Soul' is as popular today as it ever was and whose album 'It Is Love: Recorded Live At Vine St.' helped relaunch the Verve label in 1987," the label posted on Facebook.
Bradshaw said she and her twin sister happily celebrated their birthdays with their mom the day before she passed, which gave her a final chance to spend time with those she loved.
"Miss Shaw is in heaven," her daughter said.

CBS announced Travis Scott and Burna Boy as additional performers for the 2024 Grammy Awards. The reveal was made during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s (Jan. 21) NFL game between Kansas City and Buffalo.
Scott is vying for Best Rap Album for UTOPIA. He previously received a nod in the same category for his 2018 project, ASTROWORLD, and has a total of 10 nominations but no wins yet.
UTOPIA debuted in July 2023 with 19 songs, including the pre-release “K-POP” featuring The Weeknd and Bad Bunny. Drake, Future, Beyoncé, Playboi Carti, 21 Savage, Young Thug, and Kid Cudi were among the other guest appearances. Additionally, “MODERN JAM,” “HYAENA,” and “TOPIA TWINS” received visual companions.
Scott is currently on the second leg of his “UTOPIA: CIRCUS MAXIMUS TOUR.” Veeze, Babyface Ray, and Skilla Baby joined as opening acts. The Houston rapper’s setlist boasts records like “THANK GOD,” “SIRENS,” and “FE!N.” The last-mentioned track was played 10 times in a row at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in December 2023.
On the other hand, Burna won Best Global Music Album for Twice as Tall in 2021. For the 2024 ceremony, he’s nominated in four categories: Best Global Music Album (I Told Them…), Best African Music Performance (“City Boys”), Best Global Music Performance (“Alone”), and Best Melodic Rap Performance (“Sittin’ on Top of the World” featuring 21 Savage).

Dexter Scott King, son of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., dies of cancer at 62
Dexter Scott King, who dedicated much of his life to shepherding the civil rights legacy of his parents, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, died Monday after battling prostate cancer. He was 62.
The King Center in Atlanta, which Dexter King served as chairman, said the younger son of the civil rights icon died at his home in Malibu, California. His wife, Leah Weber King, said in a statement that he died "peacefully in his sleep."
The third of the Kings' four children, Dexter King was named for the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where his father served as a pastor when the Montgomery bus boycott launched him to national prominence in the wake of the 1955 arrest of Rosa Parks.
Dexter King was just 7 years old when his father was assassinated in April 1968 while supporting striking sanitation workers in Memphis, Tennessee.
"He turned that pain into activism, however, and dedicated his life to advancing the dream Martin and Coretta Scott King had for their children" and others, the Rev. Al Sharpton said in a statement. He said Dexter King "left us far too soon."
"Ever since I was seven, I've felt I must be formal," he wrote, adding: "Formality, seriousness, certitude – all these are difficult poses to maintain, even if you're a person with perfect equilibrium, with all the drama life throws at you."
As an adult, Dexter King bore such a striking resemblance to his famous father that he was cast to portray him in a 2002 TV move about Parks starring Angela Bassett.
He became an attorney and worked to protect the King family's intellectual property. In addition to serving as chairman of the King Center, he was also president of the King estate.
Dexter King and his siblings, who shared control of the family estate, didn't always agree on how to uphold their parents' legacy.
In one particularly bitter disagreement, the siblings ended up in court after Dexter King and his brother in 2014 sought to sell the Nobel Peace Prize their father was awarded in 1964 along with the civil rights leader's traveling Bible used by President Barack Obama for his second inauguration. Bernice King said she found the notion unthinkable.
The King siblings settled the dispute in 2016 after former President Jimmy Carter served as a mediator. The items were turned over to the brothers, but other terms of the settlement were kept confidential.
Coretta Scott King died in 2006, followed by the King's oldest child, Yolanda King, in 2007.
"Words cannot express the heartbreak I feel from losing another sibling," the Rev. Bernice A. King, the youngest of the four, said in a statement.
His older brother, Martin Luther King III, said: "The sudden shock is devastating. It is hard to have the right words at a moment like this. We ask for your prayers at this time for the entire King family."
A memorial service will be announced later, the King Center said. The family planned a news conference Tuesday in Atlanta.
Common And Jennifer Hudson Subtly Confirm Romance After Dating For Almost 2 Years
Common and Jennifer Hudson subtly go public with their romance after they started dating in 2022. The couple seemingly confirmed their relationship in the Monday, January 22 episode of the singer's talk show "The Jennifer Hudson Show".
In the episode, Jennifer could be seen introducing the rapper with a freestyle. The Chicago native later appeared with a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
"Now, we gotta get down to business, Mr. Common. I'm a host and so I have to ask you this question 'cause everybody always wanna know this - are you dating anyone?" the "If This Isn't Love" songstress asked her long-rumored boyfriend.
While laughing, the rapper admitted that he's, in fact, seeing someone. "I'm in a relationship that is with one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life," he gushed. "She's smart, she loves God, she has something real down-to-earth about her, she's talented."
The episode also saw "The Suicide Squad" star sharing that he wanted his girlfriend to be an EGOT winner. It must be noted that Jeniffer achieved the honor in 2022 after she won a Tony Award for producing "A Strange Loop".
At one point, he asked Jennifer the same question and the "Dreamgirls" star revealed that she was "very happy" in her relationship. She then asked him if he's happy in his, with Common replying, "This relationship is a happy place for me."
He further elaborated, "Seeing her happy actually makes me really happy. So, I'm very grateful. I thank God each and every day, and I'm just letting God guide this relationship."
The pair even showed PDA in a picture taken from the episode. "Hip-hop legend @common joins us Monday! Trust us, you don’t want to miss this!" so Jennifer wrote alongside a picture of Common giving a peck on her cheek.
Common and Jennifer first sparked dating rumors in 2022. At the time, they were spotted together in their hometown. Despite the rumors, the pair remained mum when it came to their romance.
Jennifer even refused to address the romance speculations between them in a September 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “People create their narratives of it and it's like, OK, you know, how you feel," she shared at the time. "We shot a film together, and [Common] played my husband. We gotta eat in between those moments," she added, referring to "Breathe".
Will Smith And Jada Pinkett Accused Of 'Carefully' Plotting Reconciliation For Public Image
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith have been putting on a united front since their relationship drama, but not everyone is buying it. Their friends are reportedly questioning their conveniently timed reunion amid recent gay allegations involving Will and Duane Martin.
Sources tell Straight Shuter (via the National Enquirer) that the pair have chosen to live under the same roof again, but their friends suspect that their new living arrangement is just a PR ploy to rescue their bruised public image following Will's slapgate and his gay sex scandal.
"Will and Jada are putting on a united front, ending their seven-year separation and choosing to live under the same roof once again," one of the friends dishes. "They are openly declaring their commitment to each other, portraying themselves as a happy couple after the recent messy revelations about their relationship."
"But while they insist that they're back together, some doubt lingers," the so-called insider dishes. The friend goes as far as alleging, "The couple's tendency to manage their public image through carefully crafted narratives is no secret."
Jada dropped the shocking revelation about their relationship in 2023, saying that she and Will had separated since 2016, but never had any intention to divorce. She later confirmed that they reconciled after the Oscar incident where Will slapped Chris Rock, though she refused to call their relationship "marriage."
In November, during her appearance on "The Drew Barrymore Show", the "Red Table Talk" host declared that she will never be leaving Will. "We're staying together forever," she said. The actress then seemed to suggest that their attempts to live separately have been unsuccessful. The Hollywood star said, "I tried. We tried."
In December, the 52-year-old mom of two said that she won't divorce Will even if they find new love. "We are both getting older. And besides, we've been together 30 years so, even if someone new came along, neither of us is going anywhere. We are a family that needs to look out for one another and always will be. Sometimes it takes a crisis for you to see that," she said to The Mail On Sunday's You Magazine.
'Pawn Stars' TV star Rick Harrison's son Adam dies at 39 of a suspected drug overdose
The frontman of "Pawn Stars," Rick Harrison's son, Adam, passed away at age 39. Adam reportedly died while in Las Vegas.
Unlike his two siblings, Adam was not very involved with his father's show or store and led a more private life. Harrison has since spoken out about his son's death, expressing how heartbroken he is by the loss.
According to a report, Harrison's son, Adam, passed away on Friday while in Las Vegas. A rep for the TV personality revealed that the 39-year-old died of an overdose. At the moment, it's unclear what substance Adam overdosed on.
In a statement, the family said of his death: "Our family is extremely saddened by the death of Adam. We ask for privacy as we grieve his loss."
Harrison broke his silence on Adam's passing with a heartbreaking post on social media. "You will always be in my heart!" Harrison wrote along with a broken heart emoji. "I love you, Adam."
The short tribute was accompanied by a photo of him smiling beside his son in a bar.
Adam is one of Harrison's three sons. Unlike his brothers, he was not hugely associated with his father's show. Harrison shared his late son and his elder brother, Corey, with his former wife, Kim. The TV personality had his other son, Jake, with his second wife, Tracy.
For fifteen years, "Pawn Stars" has followed the Harrison employees at their Vegas Gold & Silver Pawn Shop as they authenticate items brought into their store and make offers to their sellers.
Adam was allegedly employed at Gold & Silver Pawn before the 2009 launch of the show. But he hasn't been employed there lately.
Following news of his death, tributes poured in for Adam from celebrities and fans of his father.
Donald J. Trump Jr. wrote, "I’m so sorry man," while actor Christopher Clawson said, "Condolences Rick. The fentanyl situation is out of control in this country and nobody seems to be doing anything meaningful about it. Use your platform to help change that."
A fan commented, "No, no, I can't believe it; they just broke the news here in Chile. I'm very sorry. God give peace to your hearts, a big hug for you, and your family."
Another fan wrote, "I am so sorry for your loss, Rick. Too many of our children are taken by the disease of addiction."
A fourth person stated, "I am so incredibly sorry. God bless you and your family. I know you don’t know anyone here in these comments and it doesn’t really matter, but there’s an entire legion of people that have been impacted by your family and those close to you, Adam included. I hope you guys can find solace in this time."
One more individual noted, "My condolences, we are going to be with our sons one day just be strong and peace for you and Family God blessings."
Rest in peace, Adam Harrison.
Dave Chappelle on Katt Williams' Cedric the Entertainer Remarks: 'He's Old, He's Fat, Leave This N***a Alone'
Dave Chappelle treated fans to his take on Katt Williams' Club Shay Shay interview during a recent stand-up.
The Dreamer comedian was a surprise guest during a stop on Deon Cole's comedy tour this week, where he spent most of his segment on Williams.
"I love a lot of people, but I love Katt more than most people, and that n***a is wild," Chappelle said in footage captured from the show.
"Alright, alright, "I'm at war with the Illuminati, too, but what part of that war is ethering Cedric the Entertainer?" Chappelle joked. "'I'm gonna dismantle the Illuminati, and I'm gonna start with Cedric the Entertainer!' Ced's a good dude. He's old, he's fat, leave this n***a alone."
Chappelle also referenced Williams' diss towards Steve Harvey, alluding that the Family Feud host "doesn't do" comedy anymore. In attendance at the show was Deray Davis, who agreed with Marlon Wayans claim that Williams' viral moment was "good for comedy." "No, shut up, n***a," Chappelle responded.
"You know why I disagree? Because I put a special out the same day. It was fine. And this n***a came out [and said], 'I read 6,000 books ... what the fuck is you talking about?"
Chappelle's latest Netflix special was released on Dec. 31, but Williams' remarks on Cedric the Entertainer, Harvey, Kevin Hart and other comedians trended shortly after the Club Shay Shay episode dropped. To date, the episode has 52 million views after premiering on Jan. 3.
In the nearly three-hour chat, Williams alleged that Cedric stole material from him, that Harvey "hated on" Bernie Mac and Mark Curry, and that Hart was an "industry plant."
Cedric, who denied Williams' claims during a previous Club Shay Shay episode, also discussed the allegations while attending the 81st Golden Globes.
"It's an interesting time now," Cedric told Entertainment Tonight. "People get on these blogs and they just start spewing off stuff that's not even factual. I let the fodder just go out there until I'm ready to respond to it. I am who I am. I stand on that for sure."
Ludacris teams up with BET+ to create a "dramedy" based on his life and career
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Ludacris has teamed up with BET+ to create a new series based on his life and career. The half-hour “dramedy” is said to be inspired by the rapper’s “experience coming up in the competitive music scene in Atlanta as DJ Chris Lova Lova,” and will follow “the misadventures of a sharply drawn ensemble who are willing to do anything and everything to bolster ratings at their Hip Hop radio station.”
Alongside Ludacris, the show will be executive produced by longtime manager Chaka Zulu, scriptwriter Noah Gardenswartz, Larry Wilmore, Malcolm D. Lee, Dominique Telson, Disturbing Tha Peace’s Jeff Dixon, Josh Bratman and Polygram Entertainment’s David Blackman. Unsurprisingly, Ludacris will be overseeing the music for the forthcoming series.
The unnamed production marks Ludacris’ latest foray into Hollywood. Back in November 2023, he took on a leading role in the Tim Story-directed Dashing Through the Snow, which premiered on Disney+ and starred the likes of Lil Rel Howery, Teyonah Parris, Oscar Nuñez, Madison Skye Validum and Mary Lynn Rajskub. Months before that, Ludacris brought the popular character Tej Parker back for the 11th installment of the wildly popular Fast & Furious series.
As we previously reported, 2023 was also the year that Ludacris received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “I’m just so thankful,” he said during the official ceremony. “Getting a star is a statement, but … the even bigger statement to me is that we are all interconnected. And I am a culmination of the people who showed up for me today believing in me and pushing me to inspire me. So y’all be clapping for me all day; I’m gonna need y’all to give yourselves a round of applause because I’m nothing without you.”

Taraji P. Henson Addresses Fan Reaction to ‘Color Purple’ Production Drama
*Taraji P. Henson is speaking out about the alleged chaos surrounding “The Color Purple” production and promotion.
Henson wants fans and movie lovers to embrace the film and not focus on the reported behind-the-scenes drama involving Oprah Winfrey.
“I hope they can focus back onto this film, because right now, to me, it feels like what I said is now becoming louder than this beautiful film,” Henson said in a statement to TODAY.com.
“And that’s not fair to me, or anybody in the film,” Henson continued, adding, “because the film deals with women who are oppressed — who live in an oppressed system. Men and women. And all the characters in that film except for the white people. So that movie is about healing. That movie is about sisterhood.”
It was reported earlier that executives at Warner Bros. allegedly blame Henson and Oprah Winfrey, who serves as an executive producer on “The Color Purple,” for the film’s box office failure.
Kim Kardashian Reunites With Balenciaga As Its Newest Brand Ambassador
Kim Kardashian has joined forces with Balenciaga once again. The 43-year-old reality star has recently been announced as the new brand ambassador for the fashion label. This comes one year after the brand faced criticism for an advertisement featuring children posing with BDSM-themed items, which had left the reality star feeling shaken and disgusted. Despite her initial reservations, Kim has now posted a statement revealing her partnership with the label under the creative directorship of Demna Gvasalia.
“For several years now, Balenciaga’s designs have been a part of my many looks – and some of my most iconic fashion moments,” she said. “This historic fashion house embraces modernity, craftsmanship and takes an innovative approach to design under Demna. For me, this long-standing relationship is built on mutual trust and a commitment to doing what’s right. I’m excited about this next chapter for the brand and to become their ambassador.”
Before this recent partnership, Kardashian had already been involved with Balenciaga, having appeared in their campaigns, walked in their shows, and even attended the 2021 Met Gala with Demna. However, after the controversy in 2022, she initially faced criticism for not severing her ties with the brand and for commending the way they handled the scandal, despite expressing feeling ‘shaken’ and ‘disgusted’ by the controversial images.
Subsequently, Kardashian has reaffirmed her loyalty to the brand by taking part in an advertisement for Balenciaga’s upcoming Summer 2024 collection. In response to the embarrassment caused by their previous ill-judged campaign, Balenciaga decided to take the drastic measure of completely wiping its social media pages clean.
