#MAGFAB: DUA Lipa for Rolling Stone UK - February/March 2024!

I am literally getting thrown into life right now.” Dua Lipa is thinking about her Saturn return as she says this. At 28, she’s deep in it now, but the astrology-loving star had been anticipating the foreboding planetary event for a while. It’s a cosmic coming of age, usually when people are at the cusp of 30, marked by tons of transitions and transformations and upheaval. Lipa — who’s about to start an entirely new chapter in her career — is feeling it all.
It drags you by your feet,” Lipa says in her north London lilt, relishing the chaos a bit. “I thought 28 was going to be so cute.”
We’re seated on the now-empty patio at Gjelina, a popular restaurant on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, a trendy street in LA’s Venice Beach. (She sheepishly admits that her love for the show Californication made her want to see this street before she ever visited Los Angeles.) Lipa pulled up to lunch alone, weaving through once-packed tables in her tweed car coat, T-shirt, jeans and sunglasses. Her hair, dyed a deep, mulled-wine red, makes her stick out immediately — which might be why the owner, who knows her dad and is also of Albanian descent, sends over a free dessert. “Albanians everywhere,” she says with a shrug.

She’s slightly jet-lagged, having landed from London a few days earlier. Two days before her flight, she released her new single, ‘Houdini’, a neo-psychedelic dance-floor rager. The next morning, Grammy nominations were announced, and she found out her Barbie hit, ‘Dance the Night’, was up for two awards, including Song of the Year. “I didn’t even know they were coming out that day!” she says. She celebrated by going to her friend’s DJ set, and admits she was kind of hungover for her flight.
But in between such big moments and celebrations, Lipa has been figuring out a lot about herself. Her highly anticipated third album is due later this year, and it captures a period of major changes in her life, including the end of a relationship and her forays into dating. She also parted ways with the management firm that represented her for a decade and bought back the rights to her music. Beyond that, she’s been planting seeds and piling up projects that include her Service95 newsletter, movie roles and a production company, plotting out exactly what she wants to do in the future.

“I’m being thrown into learning lessons of resilience,” she says, “lessons of maybe not having to be so strong all the time and being OK with that.” She searches for the words a bit. “I don’t know… I’m learning so much about myself.”

Lipa may have already been more resilient than she realised. Look no further than her origin story: at 15, she famously persuaded her family to let her leave Kosovo and moved back to London, where she was born, completely alone. She finished school, passed her A-levels, and began waiting tables and modelling while seeking out a team and label to get her music career off the ground. Before she turned 20, she was signed.

In the years leading up to and following the release of her 2017 self-titled debut, Lipa hustled in the studio and on the road, playing festivals and opening for Troye Sivan, Bruno Mars and Coldplay. The work paid off with hits like ‘New Rules’ and a Best New Artist Grammy Award. Then, in 2020, her hyper–glam disco revival Future Nostalgia became a pandemic blockbuster that climbed the charts and launched her into main-pop-girl territory.

The album was a rebel yell for Lipa. It became an unlikely soundtrack for millions of people during lockdown, and made disco a ubiquitous trend in pop for the next few years. And with her warm, soulful voice, mixed with her undeniable self-assuredness, Lipa became the pop diva ready to meet an uncertain moment.

While she’s one of the most-streamed artists in the world, she’s also your favourite rock star’s favourite pop star: when Elton John isn’t calling her up for lavish dinners, Mick Jagger is busting a move with her at his Christmas party. “We had a full dance party, dancing with Mick Jagger in his living room,” she says, laughing. She breaks into a light impression of -Jagger: “He’s like, ‘All right, babe! Let’s go, darling!’”

Last summer, Trent Reznor said that he found ‘Levitating’ so “well-crafted” it made him tear up. (“That was too, too cool,” Lipa says, smiling widely.) Recently, for her Service95 book club, Lipa spoke to Patti Smith, one of her heroes. Smith shared that she had seen a picture of Lipa in a chain-mail dress at the Barbie premiere and instantly thought of Joan of Arc. “Sometimes when I’m talking about things like this, I’m like, ‘It feels weird that I am even talking about myself,’” Lipa says.

Lipa is everywhere, but many critics feel they have barely cracked the surface of who she is. She slipped so easily between genres that her sound, and personality, came off as inscrutable earlier in her career. Glimpses into her life outside of the spotlight would come in frequent but well-curated waves on her Instagram, the only social platform she runs herself. For her, music is a job — and her personal life remains just that. “I like to just live my life, do my photo dump, write my songs, and dip,” she explains. “I’m not interested in trying to be controversial or do something for a reaction.”

Her poise and disinterest in drama often leads people to cast her as a guarded, too-perfect pop bot. Jokes and criticism that she’s not trying hard enough, not giving enough, have hurt her. In the -middle of all this self-discovery, Lipa’s been figuring out how to create more distance from the noise around her.
“It’s always so easy with social media to get caught up in a negative spiral or people being mean, -telling you what they think about you without really -knowing you at all. It’s already so far-fetched, maybe, for some people to think that you have feelings or that you get upset,” she says. “For me, I think it’s just important to be able to take things with a pinch of salt.”

As unfazed as she may seem, some comments do sting. Take the reactions to something as innocuous as Lipa kicking back on vacation. After her Future Nostalgia tour wrapped at the end of November 2022, Lipa spent the beginning of 2023 travelling the world with her family and friends. Fans dubbed her the “vacanza queen”, commenting about how she’s never home since her Instagram feed was full of photo dumps from places like Cannes and Ibiza.

“I think people are quick to forget,” she says. “I was on tour up until the end of December. I felt like I missed out on so much time with my family and friends. It shows how short our attention span is, which is why music comes out so much faster.”
And then for just a second, she bristles slightly, exhausted by how something so harmless has been getting picked apart. “Of course, I was going to fucking holiday and chill [during] the year that I was just going in the studio and had some time off. As long as I’m doing my job, hitting my deadlines, and getting my shit done, then I will find a way to relax, too. It’s really work hard and play hard. Why not?”

Lipa is working hard now. Her fans are eagerly awaiting her third album, which they’ve nicknamed DL3. She isn’t quite ready to reveal the actual title, but she shares that it’s a psychedelic-pop-infused tribute to UK rave culture. It’s heavily inspired by acts like Primal Scream and Massive Attack, staples for a London girl with a penchant for late-night drives around her city. Even her aesthetic is a total 180 from her last era, toning down the glam, sparkly bodysuits in an effort to evoke the “don’t give a fuck-ness” of Brit-pop acts like Oasis and Blur, more touchstones for her new music.

“This record feels a bit more raw,” she says. “I want to capture the essence of youth and freedom and having fun and just letting things happen, whether it’s good or bad. You can’t change it. You just have to roll with the punches of whatever’s happening in your life.”

#RHOA: Shereé Whitfield Reveals Plans to Get Plastic Surgery Following Years of Denying She Had Work Done Before!

Shereé Whitfield from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” recently revealed that she is “finally” ready to embark on her plastic surgery journey.
This social media announcement follows years of public speculation that the muscular mother of three has had all kinds of nip tucks, cosmetic procedures, face fillers and some other work on her body
The brown beauty took to her Instagram and posted a partnership video message to her 1.2 million followers.

Whitfield said she was working with Goals Plastic Surgery and captioned her post, “Stay tuned for my journey… Can u guys guess what I’m about to do?”
The video features Shereé in a gray tank top and sweats, in her home, which she calls, Chateau Shereé, wearing a full face of make up. She says, “Hey, guys, it’s your girl Shereé, and I am teaming up with Goals Plastic Surgery here in Atlanta. Stay tuned for my journey.”

The reality star, who turned 54 earlier this month, continues reminding her fans that she works out but has some trouble spots she wants to get rid of.
Some people in Whitfield’s comments blasted her for choosing to get plastic surgery, after years of talking down on the procedures.
“Wow, you been roasting women for so many seasons for getting work done claiming you all natural and they could never. Now look. You spoke too soon I see,” one person wrote.

Another recalled how she dragged other “RHOA” cast members such as alum Nene Leakes over getting her teeth done, while one more commented, “What didn’t she get all upset with Drew about Plastic surgery.”
Others suggested that she had been getting at least a little something done to her face, but even with that she should stop because plastic surgery is “addictive.”

“You are so beautiful,” one person wrote, adding, “Please stop getting those botox in your face. You are already a beautiful black woman just stop.”
Social media has teased Whitfield in the past, often joking about the filters she uses for photos and flat-out saying that she does not look like she did when she started the show in 2008.
Once when she was promoting her brand She by Shereé and a new duffel bag in her 2023 collection, people dragged her by saying she’d had cheek fillers and possibly gotten her nose done.

Shortly after that, fans revisited the notion that her face has changed. During a confessional on an episode of “RHOA,” as people zoomed in on her face, they were certain that she had recently gotten face fillers.

Months later, Whitfield addressed allegations on the show, doubling down during season 15’s reunion episode.
Whitfield can be seen arguing with Kandi Burruss and blasting her for getting work done. She said, “You had your body done four times, honey, at least. So, we all know you’re a lover of plastic surgery.”

Burruss denied getting four surgeries but did admit to getting work done.
“First of all, let’s be clear: I have never denied getting plastic surgery,” Burruss stated before firing back, “You done had tummy tucks, you done had breast jobs, you got nose jobs multiple times. Before we even met you on this season, that was a nose job.”

“You’re lying!” Whitfield shouted, but admitted she did recently get rhinoplasty.
“This is my first tweak,” she claimed.
Now, with her new surgery party, many are hoping her next “tweak” doesn’t ruin what God naturally gave her.

#HipHopNews: Tyler, The Creator & Doja Cat Named As Headliners For Coachella 2024
Tyler, The Creator and Doja Cat have officially been confirmed to headline Coachella 2024 along with Lana Del Rey and a reunited No Doubt.
Announced on Tuesday (January 16), the lineup confirms a report from earlier this month about who was rumored to be headlining the show. At the time, Doja was said to still be in contract negotiations.

Additional names on the bill this year include Ice Spice, Lil Uzi Vert, Skepta, Tyla, Tinashe, Lil Yachty, Coi Leray and more.
Hopefully Tyler, The Creator can ease the pain felt by Odd Future fans at Coachella in 2023 when Frank Ocean unceremoniously pulled out of his second-weekend performance after a disappointing first set that began over an hour late.

The R&B star announced three days before his scheduled return that he’d been forced to back out due to an injury. Blink-182 was then lined up as his replacement.
According to Pitchfork, Frank was advised by his doctor to rest up after suffering two fractures and a sprain in his left leg prior to his first performance.

“It was chaotic,” the Blonde crooner said of his aforementioned set in a statement. “There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon.”
Ocean’s damaged leg, which was initially said to be a “serious ankle injury,” first came to light when he reportedly hurt himself while riding a bike around the Coachella festival grounds just days before his big gig.

His injuries perhaps helped to explain the somewhat disorganized set he delivered during the festival’s first weekend. After gracing the stage late, Frank dedicated roughly a quarter of his 80-minute set to a “rave mix” from DJ Crystallmess and later lip-synced some of his own songs, including “Nikes” and “Nights.”

Fans at home were expecting to livestream the performance on YouTube, but the broadcast was mysteriously pulled at the last minute.
Meanwhile back in Indio, California, the show also ended on an abrupt and anticlimactic note, with Frank telling the crowd: “Guys, I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show. Thank you so much.”

Beverly Johnson Obsessed With Drug After Being Encouraged To Look 'Chiseled To The Bone'
Beverly Johnson confessed that she was hooked on an appetite-killing drug to get a thinner look for photoshoots. The supermodel, who became the first black woman to appear on the cover of Vogue 50 years ago, admitted that her obsession with cocaine came after she was encouraged to look "chiseled to the bone."

On Tuesday, January 16, the 71-year-old beauty opened up about her journey in her modeling career as she embraced being sober for more than half a century. Speaking to Page Six, she recalled, "We were led to believe that cocaine was not addictive. We didn't know cocaine was addictive."

Beverly went on to say, "Everyone used drugs back in the day but that particular drug for models was used because we did not eat." She then recounted, "I remember eating two eggs and a bowl of brown rice a week. I would be shaking in a cab, and I would say, 'Pull over,' because I have to get a bag of M&Ms. I would just stop and get the shakes."

Unfortunately, the model was praised for the result of eating less than she should. She further explained, "We did not eat, and every time you came to work they would say, 'Yes! Chisel to the bone girl. Yes,' like congratulating you." She pointed out, "Nobody really told you the truth."

During the interview, Beverly also elaborated how her mother influenced her to realize that there was something wrong with her diet. She said that her mother, who was concerned over her condition, made her get out of a bathtub and "put me in a three-way mirror."
On what happened at that time, Beverly, who starred on a reality series titled "Beverly's Full House", additionally shared to the media outlet, "It was the first time I saw my bones looking back at me." She declared, "It was a major wake up call for me."

Beverly jumped into the modeling business during a summer break from college before it quickly became her career in 1971. Around three years into it, she became the first black model to be featured on the cover of woman Vogue's American edition.

Jonathan Majors’ Search for His ‘Coretta’ Dredges Up Quincy Jones’ Past Statements on Black Men Marrying White Women as an Act of ‘Freedom’ and ‘Revolution’

As the drama surrounding Jonathan Majors and the assault of his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, continues to take social media and airwaves by storm, a conversation Majors had with Jabbari, discussing his importance in Black culture and asking her to ‘sacrifice’ for him like Coretta Scott King and Michelle Obama has become center of discussion. King’s name once again was mentioned when Majors appeared on the Jan. 8 episode of “Good Morning America,” in which this time the “Creed” star said he found his “Coretta” in new girlfriend, Meagan Good.

The actor’s obsession with civil rights while in an interracial relationship sparked dialogue online about the Black male civil rights leaders and entertainers who were married to white women.
In the 1950s and ’60s, numerous Black entertainers engaged in relationships with and married white women as a means of challenging societal norms. Quincy Jones has discussed this in numerous interviews in the past. According to Jones, these interracial unions were perceived not only as acts of defiance, especially considering the existence of anti-miscegenation laws in many states, but also as a form of revolutionary expression and civil rights activism.

“Over the years, interracial relationships have been a hip, almost defiant thing, a way of saying ‘Nobody can put a boundary around me,'” Jones told Oprah in the October 2001 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine.
He gave a more radical explanation to GQ in 2018. When the three-time divorcee was asked about being criticized for only marrying white women, he told the publication, “I don’t give a f—k. Because they think that’s all you like, but that’s stupid, man. Here’s what you’ve got to understand: The interracial thing was part of a revolution, too, because back in the ’40s and stuff, they would say, ‘You can’t mess with a white man’s money. … Don’t mess with his women.'”

Jones continued, “It was freedom, man. Do what you want to do, and nobody can tell you what to do.”
One may consider that Jones has a point if you think back to 1884 when Frederick Douglass secretly wed Helen Pitts. Her white parents, although abolitionists themselves, disapproved of her marrying a Black man. Pitts was Douglass’ second wife. His first wife, Anna Murray, died in 1882. Pitts’ family nor Douglass’ children were accepting of the marriage, yet they rebelled anyway.

As far as entertainers, Jones wasn’t alone in this line of thinking, unfortunately. In the 1950s, before marrying her white husband Bill McDonald, singer and actress Eartha Kitt struggled to find love with Black men in her industry, namely Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte. She said that at the time, Black men felt that their relationships with white women came with financial and social resources and felt Black women could do nothing for their advancement in society.

“He seemed busy catching little white flies, as he proved to me later in Philadelphia, where getting up from my bed, he said, ‘I don’t want you to take this seriously. No Black woman can do anything for me,’” she wrote in her 1989 memoir “I’m Still Here: Confessions of a Sex Kitten. “Black woman would hold a Black man back’, that’s what he told me.”

Malcolm X had his views as to why some Black people chose to date outside of their race, and it wasn’t out of defiance. According to the late activist, it’s a “slave mentality” and a belief that you have not achieved success until you’ve gotten a white woman.
“The white man has brainwashed the so-called negro to the point of believing in white supremacy so much that today some negros think that that they’re not making progress or they don’t have anything unless they’re living in a white neighborhood, a seat at the white man’s school or a position at the white man’s job, they’ve even taken it so far they don’t think they’re successful in life unless they have a white woman as a wife,” he said in 1963.

Interracial marriage in the United States became fully legal in all U.S. states following the 1967 Supreme Court decision that declared anti-miscegenation state laws unconstitutional, citing the 14th Amendment adopted in 1868.
When this law was passed, according to the Pew Research Center, only 3 percent of married couples were interracial. Now, that number has ballooned to 20%.

Over 55 years after the decision, the Gallup Polls says that interracial dating has an approval rating of 94%, showing that the love shared by interracial couples may have been a contributing factor to the new America.

Halle Bailey Said She ‘Stayed Off Of All Social Media’ During Her Pregnancy In Order To Keep Herself ‘Sane And Okay’

Halle Bailey had an incredible 2023, with the premiere of two blockbuster films, as well as her debut solo single. And she’s already kicking off 2024 with a bang. Earlier this month, Bailey revealed that she and her beau, rapper DDG, welcomed a baby boy named Halo last year.

Though she remained mum about the pregnancy throughout much of last year, keeping her body hidden with large flowing dresses and garments, Bailey finally took some time to answer fans’ questions via Snapchat.
One fan asked “Was the [sic] blogs and cameras stressful while pregnant?”
Bailey responded, saying “I mean, a little bit, but honestly I stayed off of all social media. I really tried to, just to keep myself sane and okay.”

Though she was quiet on social, that didn’t stop fans from coming up with their own theories, and attempting to catch Bailey or DDG slipping up. But the couple was committed to sharing the news on their own terms.
“I know that there was a lot of people who would always, like, comment and be like, ‘We know, girl, we know.’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, that’s great that you know. But I’m gonna just chill, you know, and that’s wonderful if you support me, and if not, that’s okay too. I hope you have a wonderful life.”

Now, it appears DDG and Bailey are enjoying their new parenthood. So much so, they created an Instagram account for Halo.

Pharrell Settles Into Louis Vuitton Creative Director Role With Menswear Fall/Winter ’24-’25 Collection
Louis Vuitton staged its Fall/Winter 2024 menswear presentation on Jan. 16. With Pharrell at its helm, the luxury brand displayed Skateboard P’s latest vision as Creative Director in a showcase implementing a rodeo theme, taking place at the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Paris.

The collection features plenty of leather, denim, earth tones, and cowboy hats subtly inspired by his famous Vivienne Westwood topper, as well as bright, streetwear designs that immediately recall his early membership to the Billionaire Boys Club. The wide range of influences seen within the collection does make it feel a bit disjointed, but still manages to showcase Williams’ continued growth as a designer so filled with ideas, that it can be difficult to present them cohesively. Trust me, there are worse offenses.

WATCH HERE

An endless array of reimagined trunks and bags — namely the LV Millionaire Speedy — have become a major talking point leading up to the show, and they were certainly put on full display throughout the presentation. More formal wear walked the line between the masculine and feminine, with structured coats and suits married with floral patterns and bold, bright colors that reflect the Virginia rep’s own style.

Williams was not only supported by the fashion elite, but many of his Hip-Hop peers, including Bun B, Swae Lee, A$AP Ferg, Quavo, and others. The Book Of Clarence actor Lakeith Stanfield also took in the presentation alongside a host of style’s biggest names.

Amy Robach & T.J. Holmes’ Podcast Ratings Face Major Decline Despite Bombshell Revelations

Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes' podcast ratings have dwindled one month after its promising start last December.
The podcast debuted in the top five in the U.S. charts but dropped to 234th before returning to 136th following the couple's episode about their drinking history.

According to recent reports, Robach and Holmes' podcast isn't getting stellar numbers again on the listener charts following its debut on streaming platforms on December 5, 2023.
Launched nearly a year after their departure as co-hosts on ABC's "Good Morning America," the couple had hoped the podcast would revive their stagnant career.

However, although the first episode of Robach and Holmes' podcast started well by ranking in the top five, it quickly fell to the 234th spot on the U.S. charts, according to the podcast analytics platform Chartable.
One podcasting expert explained the situation, per The Sun: "There was a ton of interest in what they were going to say about their affair and being cut from ABC in the aftermath, but I'm not sure anyone expected that interest to continue much beyond that.

This month, the podcast experienced some resurgence, rising to the 136th spot in the charts after the pair discussed their drinking history in the January 11th episode.
Listeners seemed to be particularly curious about Holmes' confession to being able to "go through 18 drinks a day."

When asked by Robach how he manages to do this, Holmes explained that he consumes at least four of them by halfway afternoon—at least two after their morning run and at least two more during lunch.

He continued, "Now, if we're not out and about for the day, running errands or doing something, and we're just inside, I can easily have a drink in my hand from two in the afternoon until seven, eight, nine, 10 o'clock at night."
"So, you do those numbers, and you have a drink an hour for another eight hours, you could argue." the former "GM3" co-host remarked. "That's another eight hours of having a drink in my hand, plus the four I've already had during the day."

Since their relationship became known in December 2022, Robach and Holmes have kept going strong despite knowing that much of the public's view of them isn't positive.
However, while they might seem rock solid on the outside, the couple has faced challenging personal moments, and there was a time when they almost ended their relationship.

In a recent episode, Robach and Holmes touched on that make-or-break moment, saying that a specific disagreement rooted in "fear and lack of communication" was the incident that nearly led to a breakup.

"The closest we got to our relationship ending was a disagreement — a fight — we had that was really based on fear and lack of communication to where we thought, 'Wow. We went through all this, and maybe we're not compatible,'" 46-year-old Holmes shared on the podcast, per People. "Maybe we missed something."

Regarding the future of their relationship, Robach and Holmes are considering getting married someday.
Holmes said in an episode of their podcast: "We did not enter this relationship for fun or for 'Let's see what happens.' We entered this relationship because we intended on spending our lives together."

However, they are in no rush to bring that plan to fruition, as their experiences have taught them that marriage is not something to be entered into based on a whim.
"We both have two marriages under our belts and so it's not something we're racing to or rushing towards," Robach added. "But I want to spend the rest of my life with you, I can say that. It's on the table. It's on the table."

Amy Robach was formerly married to Andrew Shue, and T.J. Holmes married Marilee Fiebig. Both Robach and Holmes have completed the divorce proceedings with their previous partners.

The cast of "Martin" reunites at the 2024 Emmy Awards

On Monday (Jan. 15), viewers tuned in to the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards, which was hosted by Anthony Anderson and took place at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater. One of the more surprising moments of the evening was an appearance from the cast of the iconic sitcom “Martin,” which included Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold, Carl Anthony Payne II and the show’s namesake, Martin Lawrence. Tragically, the segment was without Tommy Ford, who died in 2016.

“Wow, this is a real moment,” Lawrence said to his former co-stars while standing in a replica of his character’s apartment. The group then proceeded to joke about finally getting a well-deserved Emmy before Anderson humorously brought them back to reality. Lawrence then presented the award for Lead Actor in a Comedy Series to Jeremy Allen White for his role in “The Bear.”

“Martin” aired from 1992 to 1997 and was set in the city of Detroit, MI, where Lawrence’s character, Martin Payne, worked as a radio DJ for the fictional station WZUP. Cameos were plentiful throughout its historic run, with Snoop Dogg, Brian McKnight, Tracy Morgan, The Notorious B.I.G., Method Man, Outkast and many more dropping in for different episodes.

Prior to the Emmys, Lawrence and his fellow castmembers came together for a BET+ special to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Martin.” The Affion Crockett-hosted event looked back at some of the show’s most notable moments — including the aforementioned cameos — and served as a heartfelt tribute to Ford.

“To be able to sit here 30 years later with this amazing cast that has had such an impact on pop culture is truly a blessing,” said Lawrence when the BET+ special was first announced. “I am always humbled that the fans still want more of the show and its characters. I am looking forward to the reunion special.”

Idris Elba’s ‘Luther: The Fallen Sun’ Quietly Becomes Second Most Watched Netflix Film
*Idris Elba‘s “Luther: The Fallen Sun” quietly made its mark on Netflix, becoming 2023’s second most-watched movie on Netflix.
Referencing Netflix’s first-ever Engagement Report, Screen Rant reports the feature generated 209.7 million hours of viewing time among viewers in the first half of the year. That second place ranking for “Luther: The Fallon Sun” comes behind the streamer’s most-watched film, the Jennifer Lopez starrer “The Mother.” Overall, “The Fallen Sun” is the 20th highest-ranked title on Netflix’s chart, combining viewing totals for movies and television shows.

The film’s success is a major win for Elba. The “Pacific Rim” actor stars in “The Fallen Sun” as troubled detective Chief Inspector John Luther. The feature is a sequel to the “Luther” crime drama, which starred Elba in the title role. The BBC series lasted five seasons between 2010 and 2019.

“The Fallen Sun,” which premiered on Netflix in February 2023, centers on a new adventure for Luther, who breaks out of prison to pursue a dangerous serial killer.
Luther: The Fallen Sun quietly became a massive streaming hit. The movie is a sequel to the BBC One crime drama Luther, which starred Idris Elba as the troubled Detective Chief Inspector John Luther and originally ran for five seasons between 2010 and 2019. Fallen Sun, which premiered on Netflix in February 2023, sees Elba return to the role for a new adventure that follows Luther breaking out of prison to track down a dangerous serial killer.

For its Engagement Report, Netflix shared “comprehensive viewership data for the first half of 2023, between January and June,” according to Screen Rant.
With its success on Netflix, the question now becomes: Will viewers see more of Luther?

As it stands now, there is no word from Netflix on an official follow-up to “The Fallen Sun,” either as a film or television season. Although no official announcement has been made, Netflix can’t help but explore the option, given its success this year.
With Elba expressing interest in making another Luther movie, anything is possible. Especially given the ending of “The Fallen Sun,” which implied that Elba’s heroic acts have opened the door to him being offered a job with MI5 instead of forcibly serving the rest of his prison sentence.

Screen Rant speculates “any number of news stories in the Luther universe” happening, with Luther’s story taking a cue from the show “White Collar.” In that series, Matt Bomer played a con man and art forger named Neal Caffrey. Caffrey, an inmate, serves his prison sentence working with the FBI while wearing an ankle monitor.

For Luther, Elba’s character could serve the remainder of his sentence working with MIS under certain restrictions.

Elton John says he's honored to join 'hallowed ranks of EGOT winners.

Elton John could feel the love on Monday night. The 76-year-old singer officially achieved EGOT status after winning an Emmy Award for his concert film, Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, in the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category.

The term EGOT is an acronym for the four big American entertainment awards — Emmys, Grammys, Oscars and Tonys —and is used for people who have won at least one of each. The acclaimed British performer is the 19th person to earn the title.

The "Rocket Man" singer, who recently underwent knee surgery, did not attend the 75th Emmys, held in Los Angeles at the Peacock Theatre at L.A. Live, for his big moment. John, who was executive producer of his special, reacted to the achievement in a social media post, writing that he is "honored to have joined the hallowed ranks of EGOT winners," adding, "Here’s to the joy of music and the magic it brings to our lives!"

While John was in the U.K., John's husband, David Furnish, a filmmaker and one of the film's producers, attended the ceremony and collected both their awards along with executive producers Ben Winston and Gabe Turner.
"I am not Elton John," Winston began his speech, explaining that the star's surgery kept him from attending. He ended by noting that they knew the special would be historic, as Disney’s first-ever live global stream. However, "we didn’t know it was going to be historic because it was going to win a man who has created the soundtrack to all of our lives ... an EGOT!"

Amy Poehler, who along with Tina Fey resurrected Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" to announce the category, noted before the envelope was opened that John was up for an EGOT. "I can't speak for Elton, but EGOT to be excited about that," Poehler quipped.

Backstage after the award was handed out, Furnish said he FaceTimed John in England, where he's recovering, and "woke him up in the middle of the night."
"He screamed out loud," he says of John, with whom he has two sons. "He was like, 'YES!' Really happy. Incredibly honored. And he said ... I'm lucky to be in such talented and esteemed company."

Federal Judges Blocks JetBlue Airways’ Acquisition of Spirit Airlines
On Tuesday, a federal judge ruled against JetBlue Airways’ purchase of Spirit Airlines. The decision comes after the Justice Department sued to stop the merger, saying the acquisition would limit industry competition and put pressure on airfares.
JetBlue offered $3.8 billion to buy Spirit in an attempt to help the carrier grow and compete against larger rivals like Delta and United, CNBC News reported.

“JetBlue plans to convert Spirit’s planes to the JetBlue layout and charge JetBlue’s higher average fares to its customers,” U.S. District Court Judge William Young wrote in his decision. “The elimination of Spirit would harm cost-conscious travelers who rely on Spirit’s low fares.”
Judge Young’s ruling is a win for the Biden Administration and Justice Department, which fights aggressively to block deals it views as anti-competitive.

“Today’s ruling is a victory for tens of millions of travelers who would have faced higher fares and fewer choices had the proposed merger between JetBlue and Spirit been allowed to move forward,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “The Justice Department will continue to vigorously enforce the nation’s antitrust laws to protect American consumers.”
The DOJ filed a lawsuit in March that alleged JetBlue’s acquisition of the budget airline Spirit would cause many passengers to pay higher fares by getting rid of Spirit and “about half of all ultra-low-cost airline seats in the industry.”

“Spirit is a small airline. But there are those who love it,” Young, who was appointed by former President Ronald Reagan, wrote in his ruling. “To those dedicated customers of Spirit, this one’s for you.”
JetBlue and Spirit released a joint statement saying that they disagreed with the ruling and were strategizing over the next steps.

“We continue to believe that our combination is the best opportunity to increase much needed competition and choice by bringing low fares and great service to more customers in more markets while enhancing our ability to compete with the dominant U.S. carriers,” the carriers said.
