#RHOA: Did You Know Nene Leakes Played a Stripper In a Movie Starring Beyoncé?
Nene Leakes was an aspiring actress before 'RHOA' and landed a role in a movie alongside Beyoncé.
NeNe Leakes shares her journey from being a stripper to becoming an actress and reality TV star on the Bethenny Frankel Podcast Just B.

Leakes decided to audition at a strip club in Atlanta after seeing college girls on her campus dancing. She quickly learned the craft and enjoyed being in control.

After auditions and small roles, Leakes landed a big break as a cast member on The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She also discusses her relationship with Bravo and the challenges she faced after filing a lawsuit.
NeNe Leakes, 55, didn't hold back during her conversation on the Bethenny Frankel Podcast, Just B. She has always been open about her past as a stripper, a topic she also wrote about in her book, Never Make the Same Mistake Twice. In a candid conversation with former The Real Housewives of New York star, Leakes shared the story of her journey from being a stripper to becoming an actress and a reality TV star.

"I was a single mom, and I had recently ended a relationship," she explained. One day, Leakes came across an advertisement in the newspaper for Cheaters, a popular strip club in Atlanta that was looking for dancers. "All the college girls on my campus were dancing," she recalled. Leakes decided to audition saying that she used to be a model and thought it’s something she could do easily. "I walked inside, they asked me to see the house mom, and when I got upstairs, she asked me to take off my clothes. I took my clothes off, and she asked me to go to the dance floor and dance. I knew how to dance, but I didn't know how to be all sexy."

Watching the other girls move, she quickly learned the craft and secured the job. "I kind of liked it," she admitted. "I could control a lot of guys." However, her true aspiration was to become an actress.

After marrying Gregg Leakes in 1997, she began taking acting classes bought a book of agents' contacts, and took professional headshots. Unfortunately, she didn't receive any callbacks, but she didn’t give up on her dream. With the blessing of her husband, she bought a ticket to Los Angeles in the hopes of getting a movie part. “I learned about Pilot season and discovered an agency that hired extras called Central Casting. They sent me on auditions," recalled Leakes.
In 2003, Leakes landed an audition for a role as a stripper in the film The Fighting Temptations, which starred Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Beyoncé. The film follows a shy girl from a small town church who joins a traveling choir. Though her part was small, it was a big deal to Leakes.

"It was a big role," Leakes recalled. Although the audition went well, she didn't get the part. Instead, she was offered a tiny role of a stripper. A small role is better than no roles, and Leakes quickly agreed. She along with two other strippers had a line that went something like: "Hey, welcome to…" as Gooding Jr. entered the club.
However, don’t go running to look for Leakes in the film, her scene ultimately didn't make the final cut. Her big break came five years later when she became a cast member of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. The same casting director for The Fighting Temptations gave her the heads up about the Bravo auditions.

Eventually, Leakes did land a few big acting roles. She starred on Broadway's Chicago and Cinderella. She also had recurring roles on Glee and The New Normal.

#HipHopNews: Azealia Banks Slams Drake And Birdman Over Joe Budden Comments
Azealia Banks clapped back at Drake and Birdman over their comments regarding Joe Budden.
The “God’s Plan” rapper dropped his highly anticipated album, For All The Dogs, over the weekend. The 23-song effort contained guest features from Lil Yachty, J. Cole, Bad Bunny, SZA, and more. While reviews were largely positive, Budden seemingly felt Drake was “rapping for children.”

Subsequently, the Grammy winner hit back with a lengthy remark underneath DJ Akademiks’ repost. Birdman also spoke on the situation via his Instagram Story. It read, “[Joe Budden], calm down, brother. You not built [for] this gangsta s**t.”
Banks took issue with the pair’s responses and offered her commentary via an extensive series of posts. The “Luxury” artist explained, “Does Drake know his nose job and liposuction is not hip hop? Does Drake know that no one who actually understands hip hop — a culture born from [the] oppressed, really [cares] about his soft-toothed, colonized, confused, mixed-race facsimile attempts to exhibit the true authenticity of an actual MC? Does Drake know his desperate attempts to gangsterize Canadian ‘street life’ is an all-encompassing failure in and of itself?”

In a separate Story, she wrote, “Also, can hip hop get ANYMORE TRASHY? Does Birdman know how low IQ, tacky, and how much of a f**king loser he looks [like] threatening Joe Budden via the internet? Like… You can get arrested for that, Birdman.”
It continued, “Can [you] just make some more Lugz and quit threatening people online before you get arrested? [S**t] like that really makes the genre look trashy and low budget as hell, and sorry… You’ve kinda just made it so hot that if anything happens to Joe Budden, it’s certainly getting traced back to you and Drake.”

Later, Banks cited the musician’s mother, Sandi Graham, for the way he behaved. She said, “Honestly, if Drake’s mother was Black, he’d probably not be so corny. White mom syndrome is very real.”
Earlier today, fans also speculated that Drizzy took another shot at Budden in his latest caption. He wrote, “I thank God for this life and not having to come to rushed conclusions on Best Buy podcast mics.”

Dwayne Johnson Addresses Backlash Over Maui Wildfire Fund

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson understands the "backlash" he faced after launching a Maui wildfire recovery fund. The "Black Adam" actor joined forces with Oprah Winfrey in August to launch the People's Fund for Maui, but the celebrity duo faced criticism after they called on the public to contribute to the fund.

The 51-year-old star, who pledged to donate $10 million alongside Oprah, said on Instagram, "When we first launched the fund, there was some backlash that came with launching the fund, and I want to address that backlash. I get it, and I completely understand, and I could have been better. And next time, I will be better."

The wrestler-turned-actor, who previously lived in Hawaii, acknowledged that times are currently tough for millions of Americans. Dwayne conceded that money is "not growing on trees."
The Hollywood star added, "I get it. I know what it's like. I've lived paycheque to paycheque. When you are living paycheque to paycheque, the last thing you want to hear is someone asking you for money, especially when the person asking you for money already has a lot of money."

The actor and Oprah took to social media in August to launch the wildfire recovery fund. The 69-year-old TV personality said on Instagram at the time, "We’re honored to announce the People’s Fund of Maui, a fund putting money directly in the pockets of those who were affected by the recent wildfires. As we have seen firsthand, the impacts of these wildfires have been devastating, and we’re here to ensure with 100 percent guarantee that your donations will go directly into the hands of Lahaina residents."

"Every adult resident who lives in the affected area and was displaced by the wildfires in Lahaina and Kula is eligible to receive $1200 per month to help them through this period of recovery. All you have to do is go to PeoplesFundofMaui.org to apply," she added.

She continued, "We are honored to start this campaign with $10 million and ask for your help in donating to those who have lost their homes. We thank you in advance for your contribution. Link in bio to learn more and give to the @peoplesfundofmaui [prayer emoji]."

Britney Spears Expresses Desire To Cover Beyonce's 'Daddy Lessons' With Jay-Z
Britney Spears is seemingly feeling musically inspired these days. While gearing up to release her first memoir "The Woman in Me", the Princess of Pop has expressed her desire to cover Beyonce Knowles' "Daddy Lessons".

On Sunday, October 8, the singer posted two videos of her dancing to the 2016 track of Beyonce's sixth studio album "Lemonade". In both videos, she rocked a racy purple thong bodysuit as she grooved to the song. She paired the strappy, sheer lingerie with a pair of tall black boots.

The 42-year-old wore her blonde hair in a long straight style in parts of the videos, and wearing it pulled back in other sections. It's unclear if she's already in the holiday spirits early or if the clips are old as Britney could be seen dancing with a sparkling Christmas tree in the background.

Later on Monday, Britney followed up the videos with another one that showed her interest on working with Jay-Z to work on a cover of "Daddy Lessons". "So many people have done remixes to my songs without my knowledge ... so I guess it's safe to say I will be redoing this song eventually. !!! Just need to meet Jay-Z and add a rap to it ... what's up???" she wrote in the caption of the since-deleted clip.
"Daddy Lessons" is a country track from Beyonce's blockbuster album. While it's not one of the singles of the set, the song debuted and peaked at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 upon the album's release. It spawned a remix featuring The Chicks that was released later in 2016.

Britney last released a new song in July of this year as she teamed up with will.i.am on "Mind Your Business". Her last studio album "Glory" was released in 2016. In August 2023, it was reported that the "...Baby One More Time" songstress is working on her upcoming album with other fellow artists amid her divorce from Sam Asghari.
"She has an upcoming writers camp and is getting songs from some big artists," a source told Page Six about Britney's alleged plans to drop a new album. The source continued, "Ideally, she would love to do a record and maybe a song for the book ['The Woman in Me'] release." The music project, however, has not been confirmed by Britney's team.

Man in custody after scaling Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel and claiming to have a bomb

Authorities closed Santa Monica Pier after a man climbed onto the Ferris wheel and claimed to be carrying a bomb, police officials said Monday.
In aerial footage from local TV, the man could be seen on the wheel carrying a dark bag. Police and firefighters were at the scene, and around 4:30 p.m., the man had climbed down and been taken into custody by officers gathered beneath the ride.

The Santa Monica Police Department had earlier announced via its account on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, that officers were “dealing with a person in crisis.” They subsequently evacuated the pier and Pacific Park.

In an interview with The Times before the man was taken into custody, Lt. Erika Aklufi said officers were attempting to extract riders from the Ferris wheel while they communicated with the man to “try to get him to come down.”

“Out of an abundance of caution,” Aklufi said, “we’re going to act as if he does [have a bomb] until we can prove that he doesn’t.” Video showed firefighters using a lift to remove riders from the Ferris wheel.
At about 4:45 p.m., Santa Monica police posted that no bomb had been found: “The suspect is in custody and will be transported to a local hospital for evaluation,” police said.

The pier and Pacific Park have “reopened to visitors upon receiving an all-clear status” from police after “guest and employee evacuation procedures were initiated due to an unknown individual in a restricted area at the Ferris wheel,” park spokesperson Cameron Andrews said in a statement Monday evening. The park thanked police “for their speedy response, direction and leadership.”

Bruno Mars forced to cancel Israel concert amid Hamas attacks
Amid escalating violence between Israel and Hamas, a scheduled Bruno Mars concert in Tel Aviv was abruptly canceled. The award-winning artist previously performed one show earlier in the week and had another scheduled for Saturday (Oct. 7). However, the country’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a state of war that same day, prompting the cancellation of the weekend event.
“Dear customers, Bruno Mars concert scheduled to take place tonight is canceled,” Live Nation stated via its Instagram account. The post continued, “All ticket purchases to the show will receive an automatic refund to the credit card through which the purchase was made.”

The event organizer also expressed its solidarity. They concluded, “We stand with the residents of Israel, IDF fighters, and the security forces in these difficult moments.”
The announcement came after Mars performed for over 60,000 fans on Oct. 4. Days later, Hamas commenced a series of devastating attacks that reportedly resulted over 900 Israeli fatalities. In retaliation, the country launched airstrikes on the Gaza Strip.

Per USA Today, the Gaza Health Ministry announced at least 200 Palestinian deaths. The violence also led to the postponement of international soccer matches and other large gatherings. “Citizens of Israel, we are at war. Not an operation, not a round [of fighting], at war,” Netanyahu declared.
After the attacks, U.S. President Joe Biden issued a statement on Saturday. It read, “The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the government and people of Israel. Terrorism is never justified. Israel has a right to defend itself and its people.”

Mars has yet to comment on the cancellation. However, Page Six confirmed that he left the country shortly after the announcement.

Francis Ford Coppola Calls Martin Scorsese the ‘World’s Greatest Living Filmmaker’
Coppola took to Instagram to call his “longtime friend” Scorsese the “world’s greatest living filmmaker” while including the trailer for Scorsese’s upcoming epic “Killers of the Flower Moon.”
“My longtime friend Martin Scorsese has a new film coming out this month, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,'” Coppola captioned. “He is a wonderful person and the world’s greatest living filmmaker. His new film delivers on every level.”

“Killers of the Flower Moon” stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro as swindlers in 1920s Oklahoma, preying on the oil reserves of the Osage Nation. Lily Gladstone stars as DiCaprio’s onscreen wife.
Meanwhile, Coppola recently wrapped production on self-funded “Megalopolis” with Adam Driver, Talia Shire, Shia LaBeouf, and Dustin Hoffman.

Scorsese and Coppola have often voiced their shared admiration for each others’ work. Scorsese called “The Godfather Part II” his favorite Coppola film in an opinion piece for Esquire, writing that the family drama is “constructed like a symphony and directed by a master as a great conductor directs his orchestra, it reaches its highest points of lyricism.”

Scorsese added, “I admire the ambition of the project, its Shakespearean breadth, its tragic melancholy in its portrayal of the dissolution of the American dream…It is particularly the film within the film, the story of young Vito Corleone and his journey from Sicily to the Lower East Side, that touched me in a deep, personal way. Perhaps I saw a bit of my grandparents in that journey; perhaps I recognized my old neighborhood; perhaps I shared the sadness of the dream turning into a nightmare.”

In turn, Coppola called “Raging Bull” his favorite Scorsese movie in the same Esquire piece
“The Departed” director Scorsese told Deadline earlier this year that Paramount turned down hiring him at Coppola’s suggestion for “The Godfather Part II.”

“I don’t think I could have made a film on that level at that time in my life, and who I was at that time. To make a film as elegant and masterful and as historically important as ‘Godfather II,’ I don’t think…Now, I would’ve made something interesting, but his [Coppola’s] maturity was already there,” Scorsese said. “I still had this kind of edgy thing, the wild kid running around. I didn’t find myself that comfortable with depicting higher-level underworld figures. I was more street-level. There were higher-level guys in the street. I could do that. I did it in ‘Goodfellas’ particularly. That’s where I grew up. What I saw around me wasn’t guys in a boardroom or sitting around a big table talking. That took another artistic level that Francis had at that point. He didn’t come from that world, the world that I came from. The story of ‘Godfather II’ is more like Thomas Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur. It’s wonderful art.”

Angela Rye ‘Fact-Checks’ Sexyy Red After Rapper Claims ‘the Hood’ Supports Donald Trump Because He Gave Them ‘Free Money’

In response to rapper Sexyy Red’s support to re-elect former president Donald Trump, political and culture commentator Angela Rye posted a video to expound on some of the claims the rapper made about Trump’s efforts to help the Black community that earned her endorsement.
In a sit-down with Theo Von on the “This Past Weekend” podcast on Oct. 3, the St. Louis rapper discussed her support for Trump due to his approval of stimulus checks and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I like Trump,” Sexyy Red told Von. “Yeah, they support him in the hood. At first, I don’t think people was f**king with him. They thought he was racist, saying little sh*t against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Aw, baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office. We need him back, because, baby, them checks — them stimulus checks. Trump, we miss you.”

While Sexyy Red isn’t falsely rehashing those efforts, Rye decided to post a video segment to her social feeds in response to the rapper’s comments as an “extension of grace” in an effort to bring some clarity to Redd’s interpretation of those initiatives.
“Some of this misinformation — some of these ‘facts’ — have to be fact-checked,” Rye said. “The arguments about what Trump has done for the Blacks have to be called out, have to be addressed. This video isn’t just about Sexyy Redd. This video series are really to ensure that Black folks who are for Trump or just might be by default understand what he’s done or not done for us.”

Rye notes that just because Trump pardoned Black people whose cases or reputation among the public were well-established like Kodak Black, Lil Wayne, and Alice Johnson doesn’t mean he made efforts to commute more sentences of Black prisoners. She also alludes back to Trump’s notorious efforts to pass the death penalty in New York after the Central Park Five — now known as the Exonerated Five — were charged with the rape and assault of a white woman.

“There are still a lot of Black folks who were in jail under Donald Trump. See the thing that you have to understand is that out of all of the people who requested clemency, a commutation, a pardon, Donald Trump was actually the president who pardoned the least number of people since 1945,” Rye explained.

Rye then spells out part of what that “free money” initiative during the pandemic, specifically what the distribution of PPP and other loans, really meant for many Black businesses and communities that had to face legal repercussions.
“The Small Business Administration has a little entity called the Office of the Inspector General. Those investigations led to over 1,000 indictments, led to 800+ arrests, led to 529 convictions for folks who engaged in PPP and EIDL fraud,” she stated. “You didn’t get no free money then, he ain’t offering no free money now.”

While Trump is already embroiled in several legal battles, Rye highlights one of Trump’s past brushes with the law, namely a suit brought forth by the Department of Justice for housing discrimination in 1973. She also cited an excerpt from a book written by John R. O’Donnell in 1991 in which O’Donnell quoted Trump’s criticism of a Black accountant by saying “Laziness is a trait in Black people.” She also underscores Trump’s very public and very flagrant challenge of Barack Obama’s citizenship in 2011.

Sexyy Red isn’t the only rapper backing Trump. DaBaby, Lil Pump, and Kodak Black, whom Trump pardoned in 2020, are all loyal supporters.

Suspect Identified In The Murder Of Journalist Josh Kruger

Authorities are looking for Robert Edmond Davis, 19, for his alleged involvement in the death of Josh Kruger.
Philadelphia police homicide unit Lt. Hamilton Marshmond said during a Friday news conference that Davis has been listed as a suspect and that a warrant for his arrest “includes the charges of murder and related offenses.”

He also urged the suspect to surrender to police.
“Our goal is to have Mr. Davis taken into custody in a safe manner for the public, our officers and himself,” the police lieutenant said.
Kruger, 39, was shot seven times in the chest and abdomen around 1:30 a.m. inside his home in the Point Breeze neighborhood. Security video showed Davis at his home early in the day, NBC News reported.

Police said that Davis knew the journalist, and he should be considered armed and dangerous, PEOPLE reported.
During the press conference, police also said that Kruger was known for his advocacy for marginalized communities-particularly homeless people living with addiction. It’s possible he may have been counseling the suspect, NBC reported.
Marshmond said that police do not believe that the suspect was staying in the victim’s home, PEOPLE reported.

“At this time we believe that Mr. Kruger was trying to help Mr. Davis, and they were acquaintances,” Marshmond said, adding that the victim “was just trying to help him just get through life.”
The police did not provide any more details about the pair’s relationship or a possible motive.
It is not clear how the shooter ended up in Kruger’s home, and earlier reports showed no signs of forced entry.
After Kruger was shot, he ran outside for help, per the Inquirer. He was then transported to Presbyterian Hospital, where he died.
