#MAGFAB: Missy Elliott for Essence Magazine
Missy Elliott Talks Embracing Her Anxiety And Fighting Depression In Latest Issue Of ‘Essence’. Missy Elliott Talks Embracing Her Anixety In The July/August Music Issue Of 'Essence'
Missy Elliott shines on Essence magazine’s July/August Music Issue cover. The mogul gets candid about her anxiety, striving to be a good person, her musical empire, and more.

Missy Elliott is an icon. Her music, style and innovativeness have shifted a culture. She’s created some of the best music with the world’s most notable artists. Her resume includes collaborations with Janet Jackson, Beyoncé and Whitney Houston to name a few. Therefore, it’s a no-brainer that she is being inducted as the first female rapper into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

After her big announcement of her upcoming induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the star was saluted with yet another incredible honor at this year’s Black Music Honors.

Despite the mogul’s epic achievements, Elliott still dealt with the same issues most people battle. About 10 years ago, the music producer went through a challenging period that has aided her in being more vulnerable about battling anxiety.

“Now I’m fine with being like, ‘Hey, I got anxiety’ or ‘I went through depression,’” said Elliott. “Even the biggest artist, or just the regular everyday working person, we all go through s–t. We all do. And it’s okay to say, ‘Hey, I’m not okay today.’ Probably we would keep a lot of people around if we were that open, because we would be able to uplift each other. We’d know that I’m not going to look at you crazy if you say, ‘Hey, I’m having a rough day.’ Maybe you’re thinking things that you shouldn’t think, or whatever the case may be.”

Missy also recently sat down with Lil Wayne for a conversation about their individual influence on music today, the state of hip-hop today and Wayne’s 28-yearlong career in a new TV One UNCENSORED interview.

The full Lil Wayne UNCENSORED episode with Missy Elliott premiered on TV One.

#MusicNews: Chlöe Bailey Paid Tribute To Tina Turner During Juneteenth Performance

Headlining CNN’s second annual “Juneteenth: A Global Celebration for Freedom” special, Chlöe Bailey illuminated the stage, embracing the iconic sound and style of the late Tina Turner. She enraptured the crowd with a heartfelt rendition of Tina’s Grammy Award-winning 1984 hit, “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

Shared by her fans on Twitter, Bailey breathed new life into the classic tune in a gold and red shimmery dress mirroring Tina’s iconic stage presence. Initially, Kelly Rowland was slated to perform with Nelly for the 2002 single “Dilemma,” but Bailey stepped in to fill her spot after the former pulled out.

As the event unfolded in Los Angeles, it welcomed a plethora of both old and new artists. Featured performers ran the gamut from Miguel to Coi Leray, Davido, Jodeci, and SWV. Meanwhile, legendary acts Adam Blackstone and Questlove managed the show’s musical direction.

The news of Tina’s passing came as a shock to many. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, whose real name was Anna Mae Bullock, died peacefully at her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland, at the age of 83.

“With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today, we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly,” read a heartfelt post on the musician’s official Instagram page.

Tina’s musical legacy started with her ex-husband Ike Turner and The Ikettes, gracing us with timeless soul classics like “Proud Mary” and “Rolling On The River.” After escaping a tumultuous marriage to Ike in the 1970s, she found even greater success as a solo artist in the 1980s and 1990s.

#HipHopNews: Nicki Minaj Accused Of Stealing "Barbie World" Concept From Saweetie
Controversy around Nicki Minaj’s upcoming release “Barbie World” finds the rapper under accusations of idea theft. The track is set to debut on Friday (June 23) in collaboration with Ice Spice, sampling Aqua’s 1997 chart-topper bearing the same name. However, a storm is brewing over the ownership of this audacious reinterpretation.

On Sunday (June 18), rapper and songwriter Jason Martin, formerly known as Problem, raised his voice on social media. Martin alleged that he crafted a song with Saweetie, which they then forwarded to Minaj for a potential collaboration. Instead of fostering this triad of talent, he claimed that the Queen of Rap repurposed the record for her duet with Ice Spice, leaving the “Icy Girl” artist out in the cold.

In a heated Instagram Live session reuploaded by a stan account, Martin stated, “Y’all gon’ give me what I deserve. If Saweetie doesn’t wanna trip, that’s on her. But we crafted a record that was sent over to Nicki to submit to the Barbie soundtrack.” The rapper’s indignation was palpable as he recounted the series of events, adding, “Then all of a sudden, a new version was created… You can’t hear one thing, say you’re gonna do this, then go do your version. It ain’t happening like that.”

The fire wasn’t quenched on Instagram alone as Twitter also experienced Martin’s fervor. In a thread of tweets, he detailed his disappointment over Saweetie’s absence from the track and vowed to secure due compensation for his work. “I have no side in this, but I will be compensated,” the Compton native maintained.

Despite Martin’s heated rhetoric, Minaj remains mum on the issue. The acclaimed artist has yet to address the allegations directly. However, as the week moves forward, all eyes will likely be on both camps, anticipating a response to the fiery claim.

The drama unfolds against the backdrop of her imminent “Barbie World” debut, serving as a stark reminder of the complex dynamics in the music industry. Despite the turbulence, the Minaj-Ice Spice collaboration is likely to make waves upon release, marking another chapter in both musicians’ careers as did “Princess Diana.”

Monique Samuels Files For Divorce From Husband Chris Months After Shutting Down Split Rumors

Monique Samuels and Chris Samuels have gone their separate ways. The former star of "The Real Housewives of Potomac" officially filed for divorce from her husband after more than 11 years of marriage.

A spokesperson from the Montgomery County Family Court in Maryland revealed on Tuesday, June 20 that the 39-year-old submitted a complaint for absolute divorce on April 14. The reality star then filed an amended complaint for absolute divorce on June 15.

Monique and Chris will have a hearing scheduled for Wednesday. According to the spokesperson, the divorce will be finalized if things go well.
Monique and Chris tied the knot in 2012 and share three children together, sons Christopher and Chase as well as daughter Milani. The couple has endured relationship issues over the years which were well documented in the first season of "Love & Marriage: D.C.".

Monique, who was part of "RHOP" from the second season until the fifth season, addressed the state of her marriage in July 2022 when she was filming for the Bravo reality series. "People always say that reality TV tears your marriage down. What people don't realize is that 'Real Housewives of Potomac' actually in some ways saved my marriage," she told Entertainment Tonight.

"Chris and I, before we started filming that show, we were in a really rough place," she shared. "We had lost all of the dating in our marriage. Once we started filming reality TV, it actually helped us because it forced us to date."

In October, it was unveiled that Monique and Chris had called it quits. However, the former Bravo personality shut down the split reports by posting a video of the two.

In the clip, Monique said that she had just returned from a hike on what she dubbed a "beautiful" day. The camera then panned on Chris who was relaxing next to her. She let out a laugh before flashing her wedding ring which she still wears on that finger.

Elton John Slams America For Going Backwards With 'Disgraceful' Anti-Gay Laws
Elton John feels gay rights are going backwards in the US. The 76-year-old star has criticized "disgraceful" laws in the US, arguing that they are discriminating against the LGBTQ community.

"It's all going pear-shaped in America. There's violence, [discriminatory] laws enacted in Florida, which are disgraceful. There's a law now that, if you visit a doctor in Florida, they can refuse to treat you if you're gay, which I find just unbelievable. We seem to be going backwards. And that spreads. It's like a virus that the LGBTQ movement is suffering," he told the Radio Times.

Elton is currently preparing to perform at Glastonbury, and the chart-topping star is looking forward to the opportunity. Looking forward to his Glastonbury appearance, he said, "It's the only really important festival for me in the world, to be honest. It's all about music. Some American ones are good but some are a bit posey. Glastonbury gives new acts a chance."

Elton has actually created an entirely new show for his Glastonbury performance. The "Your Song" hitmaker has also warned fans to expect the unexpected at the festival. He told BBC Radio 1, "I'm starting with a song I haven't played for about ten years, so we'll see how it goes. I've got the setlist down, I've got rehearsal dates booked for the guest artists, so we just have to hope the weather will still be nice."

Glastonbury marks the end of Elton's touring commitments in the UK, and Elton believes it's the "perfect ending" for him. He said, "It's a different show to what people have been seeing. On Farewell Yellow Brick Road, there's quite a lot of deep cuts, it's not all hits, and you've got to keep people interested."

AI Music Not Eligible For Grammy Awards

The Grammys has revised its guidelines to make any works created solely using AI not eligible for awards. The Recording Academy refuse to recognise work that "contains no human authorship" in any category.

The academy, however, decided that songs containing elements of AI would be considered as long as they also have "meaningful contributions" from a human.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. commented, "If there's an AI voice singing the song or AI instrumentation, we'll consider it. But in a songwriting-based category, it has to have been mostly written by a human. The same goes for performance categories - only a human performer can be considered for a Grammy."

"At this point, we are going to allow AI music and content to be submitted, but the Grammys will only be allowed to go to human creators who have contributed creatively in the appropriate categories."

What's more, to win the prestigious Album of the Year prize, the creator, be it a featured artist, credited artist, songwriter, producer, and so on, must have contributed a minimum of 20 per cent of the work across the LP.

The update to the rules comes amid a rise in AI-generated music, with even Sir Paul McCartney set to reunite with the late John Lennon on the final Beatles song, thanks to the technology.

The surviving member of the legendary rock and roll group revealed they used artificial intelligence (AI) on an old demo to extract Lennon's vocals. McCartney, 81, told BBC Radio 4's "Today" show, "We just finished it up and it'll be released this year."

The music legend didn't name the song, but according to reports, it's said to be "Now and Then".
The same method was used in Peter Jackson's 2021 three-part The Beatles documentary "Get Back".

McCartney admits that AI is "kind of scary." However, he added, "It's the future. We'll just have to see where that leads."
The Beatles' final song will be shared with the world later this year, with a firm release date yet to be announced.

Jonathan Majors Makes First Appearance In Court As Judge Sets Trial Date On Domestic Violence Charges
person, to face domestic violence charges lodged by his ex-girlfriend. During an appearance that lasted mere minutes, the judge set an Aug. 3 trial date for the Creed III star, who has vehemently denied the accusations.

Flanked by his current girlfriend, actress Meagan Good, and his lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, and clutching what appeared to be a Bible, Majors made his way through a throng of photographers and onlookers into the courtroom. He removed his sunglasses before approaching the bench.

Judge Rachel S. Pauley informed Majors that he must adhere to the court order and have "no contact whatsoever" with his accuser. "Yes, your honor," replied Majors, 33.

Pauley then wished both parties "good luck" and adjourned the hearing.

Majors was arrested in March after an incident with his former partner who was taken to the hospital for "minor injuries to her head and neck." He was ultimately charged with multiple misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment. In a new statement on Tuesday, Chaudhry reiterated that her client was actually the victim.

"Within a few weeks of these false allegations, we provided the district attorney with evidence of Mr. Majors's innocence. Last week, we delivered additional compelling evidence to the District Attorney, clearly proving [the woman's] assault on Jonathan Majors and not the other way around," Chaudhry began.

"This evidence includes videos of [the woman's] frenzied attack on Mr. Majors and his running away from her. We also provided photographs illustrating the injuries she inflicted on Mr. Majors and photos of his clothing torn as a direct consequence of [her] violent actions," Chaudhry continued. "Following this, we strongly requested the district attorney dismiss all charges against Mr. Majors immediately and initiate proceedings against [the woman], holding her accountable for her crimes. While we are hopeful that the district attorney is reviewing these materials in good faith and will do the right thing soon, to accelerate our case, we've requested a trial date ASAP."

Last month, Chaudhry called the case a "witch hunt" that showed "racial bias" permeating in "the criminal justice system." She said they provided "irrefutable evidence that the woman is lying."

"The criminal justice system is saturated with explicit and implicit bias," Chaudhry continued. "This glaring double standard between the treatment of Jonathan Majors, a Black man weighing 200 pounds, and his accuser, highlights the racial bias that permeates the criminal justice system."

This was was shaping up to be quite the year for Majors, one of Hollywood's "it" stars. Along with Creed III, he was formally introduced as Marvel supervillain Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He's set, as of now, to reprise the role in several titles leading up to 2025's Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Majors generated buzz in January at the Sundance Film Festival for the film Magazine Dreams and was positioned early as an awards contender.

In a surprising move, Majors was dropped by his manager and publicist in April, weeks before his scheduled court appearance in the case. But days later, Variety reported more women came forward and were cooperating with the Manhattan district attorney's office. Chaudhry dismissed the "baseless" story in a statement. Around the same time, Majors was dropped from several projects. Marvel has stayed mum over the past three months.

Majors and Good began their relationship in May and have been increasingly spotted in public together in recent weeks.

Singer Ne-Yo Accused of Owing $3 Million in Back Taxes, IRS Slaps Him With Lien

Singer Ne-Yo has been slapped with a federal tax lien accusing him of owing a massive 7-figure sum to the IRS, RadarOnline.com has learned.

According to official documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Uncle Sam claims Ne-Yo [real name: Shaffer Smith] owes a total of $3,166,811.68 for 2020.

To add to the financial woes, the entertainer and his ex-wife Crystal Smith were hit with a lien by the company Crowe Custom Countertops for work done to a property in Alpharetta, Georgia.
In addition, the couple was hit with a separate lien over $4k owed to the City of Atlanta for taxes.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Ne-Yo has been in and out of court over the past couple of months. Last month, he sued his ex-girlfriend, Sade Bagnerise.

In his complaint, Ne-Yo said he is the father of Braiden Bagnerise (born in 2021) and Brixton Smith (born in February 2023). The singer did ask that a DNA test be done to confirm the paternity of Brixton.

Ne-Yo asked the court to award him joint legal and physical custody of the kids. In regard to child support, he agreed to pay but wanted the judge to determine the amount.

The battle with his ex comes months after he reached a settlement with his ex-wife in their bitter divorce.

Ne-Yo was awarded 3 of his 4 homes and a 2022 Bentley. He agreed to pay Crystal a $1.6 million lump sum, hand her the deed to one property, and $20k to help her move.

Further, he coughed up $150k to buy her a new car. Crystal signed the deal which pays her $12k per month in child support for their 3 kids. They agreed to share joint custody of the children.

Crystal will also be paid $3k per month in alimony for the next 3 years.
The split was nasty with Crystal accusing Ne-Yo of cheating on her. She wrote “8 years of lies and deception. 8 years of unknowingly sharing my life and husband with numerous of women who sell their bodies to him unprotected … every last one of them! To say I’m heartbroken and disgusted is an understatement. To ask me to stay and accept it is absolutely insane. The mentality of a narcissist.”

Rick Ross donates more than $30,000 to help Georgia health clinic avoid foreclosure
Rick Ross is truly the biggest boss that you’ve seen thus far. Yesterday (June 19), the “Aston Martin Music” hitmaker spent his Juneteenth donating over $30,000 to a local healthcare clinic in Fayetteville, Georgia to keep the medical facility from shutting down.

Local news station WSB-TV was present to witness Ross give the gracious gift. The “Stay Schemin’” rapper handed off a large check to Fayette C.A.R.E. Clinic, so the business could continue to provide free health care to individuals 18 and older. Rozay said he plans to continue helping out down the line. “Thank you very much for your donation of $30,179,” Geneva Weaver, the executive director for the facility, stated at yesterday’s gathering.

Ross was more than happy to explain what called him to give back to his community. “A clinic like this means a lot to me. I lost my father at an early age, and I felt like one of the reasons I lost him so early is because of his lack of healthcare… I look forward to [continuing] to help out as much as possible. I consider you family, friends, and, of course, neighbors,” he shared. Weaver added, “The patients that come to this clinic, all of them, their income level is 200 percent below the poverty level. The national poverty level.” According to the facility’s executive director, the “Diced Pineapples” musician’s charitable contribution is the largest they’ve ever received from a single donor since opening in 2005.

The Maybach Music member stayed modest about his aid, opting not to share the moment on social media. Instead, on his Instagram Story, he chose to discuss topics like Juneteenth, his recent Rick Ross Car and Bike Show, and an upcoming pool party at “The Promise Land” (the nickname for his Georgia residence) on July 2.

*Stevie J and his ex-wife Faith Evans are reportedly close to finalizing their divorce.
The Blast obtained new court documents that show Stevie filed a declaration of disclosure in their divorce case. This is a crucial step in acknowledging that each side has shared all their financial information. Usually, this means that the case will settle soon, the outlet reports.

In April it was reported that Stevie J hired a new lawyer for his divorce battle with the singer. The move came nearly a year after Stevie publicly attempted to make amends with the R&B songstress. According to RadarOnline, at the time, Stevie posted a sweet Mother’s Day message on social media that said “Faith Rene Jordan I’ve hurt you, disrespected you and humiliated you in front of the world. From this day forward I promise to listen to your feelings and be more delicate with your heart.”

“I also promise to build you up even more & to communicate daily with you, respect you and love on you until you’re as happy as you were when we got married,” the former “Love & Hip Hop” star added.

“I’ve learned my lesson and I NEVER want to live without you because God knows I’m a better man with you and I’m asking you to find it in your heart to forgive me and allow me to rebuild our trust,” Stevie added.

His unsuccessful attempts to rekindle a lasting romance with Faith ultimately led to Stevie proceeding with the divorce.
According to The Blast, he recently filed the declaration of disclosure documents in Los Angeles County Courts.
Stevie and Faith were married for three years before he pulled the plug on the relationship in 2021. He later accused her of cheating and a video of the couple sparring inside their home leaked online. Faith was arrested during the marriage over an alleged domestic incent with Stevie but was never charged.

The couple has no prenuptial agreement. Stevie is seeking monthly spousal support payments from Faith but she is refusing to pay, according to RadarOnline.

Civil Rights Leader Bishop William J. Barber II Retires from Preaching

Barber II delivered his final sermon as the pastor of Greenleaf Christian Church as he retired after 30 years.
“I have no reason to be standing here but by the grace of God,” Barber said in his retirement sermon at the church on Sunday.

Barber spoke during the sermon of his physical limitations from a form of arthritis known as ankylosing spondylitis, which causes inflammation in the joints and ligaments of the spine, according to the National Institutes of Health.

In 1993, Barber joined Greenleaf Christian Church in Goldsboro, and over the next three decades, he became renowned for his work addressing issues such as poverty, inequality and racism.

Barber served as president of the North Carolina NAACP from 2005 until 2017. He has at several times called for “nonviolent direct action” in the form of protest to fight against legislation he opposed.

Barber’s Forward Together Moral Movement gained national acclaim through its weekly Moral Monday protests that attracted thousands to the North Carolina General Assembly in 2013, according to the Economic Policy Institute.

Last week, the church held a retirement banquet that featured a video message from President Joe Biden.
“Thank you for showing all of us how to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly. I’ll never forget your homily at my inaugural prayer service when you called on us to be repairers of the breach and heal the soul of the nation,” President Biden said in his video message, according to a news release from Greenleaf Christian Church.
Greenleaf Christian Church said that Barber plans to remain engaged in his civil rights work.

“Bishop William J. Barber ll is dedicating his next season to continuing to build a moral movement that can redeem the heart and soul of this nation, usher in a third reconstruction, and, through his role as founding director of the recently established Yale Center for Public Theology and Public Policy, train a new generation of moral leaders to be active participants in creating a just society,” the church said in the news release.

Adult Model Moriah Mills Suspended From Twitter After Threatening To Leak Alleged X-Rated Videos Of Zion Williamson
Twitter said not on our watch. After sending a round of threats to leak a sex video, adult model Moriah Mills has been suspended from Twitter.

Moriah posted a slew of rants against NBA player Zion Williamson after he and his girlfriend announced they were expecting. The model went to social media to say she was also in a relationship with him and aired out their alleged personal business, which included alleged wire transfers and moving plans.

She then took it up a notch when she threatened to leak some of their alleged X-rated videos.

After that, the social media platform decided to pull the plug on Mills’ antics. As of Tuesday, her page, which has more than a million followers, was suspended.

Mills claimed the 22-year-old New Orleans Pelican forward asked her to stop with the theatrics. Lucky for him, Twitter stepped in.

Zion hasn’t responded to the claims, but his stepdad did step up to say, “Believe half of what you see and nothing you hear.”

Searchers for Titanic Tourist Sub Heard ‘Banging’ From Area, Internal Comms Reveal

A CANADIAN AIRCRAFT searching for the missing Titan submersible, which failed to return Sunday from an expedition to the wreckage of the Titanic, detected “banging” in 30-minute intervals coming from the area the divers disappeared, according to internal e-mail updates sent by the Department of Homeland Security’s National Operations Center obtained by Rolling Stone.

“RCC Halifax launched a P8, Poseidon, which has underwater detection capabilities from the air,” the DHS e-mails read. “The P8 deployed sonobuoys, which reported a contact in a position close to the distress position. The P8 heard banging sounds in the area every 30 minutes. Four hours later additional sonar was deployed and banging was still heard.” The announcement did not state what time the banging was heard, or what was thought to have caused it.

The announcement also stated that “the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre is working to find an underwater remote-operated vehicle through partner organizations to possibly assist.” Previous reports on the search for the missing submersible have stated that the Navy’s manned rescue craft can only descend about 2,000 feet underwater, and that if the divers were discovered closer to the approximate 13,000 foot depth of the Titanic wreckage, an underwater drone, or remote-operated vehicle, would be necessary to reach them.

The Boston Coast Guard declined to comment on the reported “banging” sounds, as did the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The U.S. Fleet Forces Command, and the DHS did not respond to requests for comment.

The United States Coast Guard said in a statement on Twitter early Wednesday that a Canadian surveillance aircraft searching for the missing submersible “detected underwater noises in the search area.”

An e-mail sent Tuesday afternoon from the president of the travel and research group, the Explorers Society, stated, “It is being reported that at 2 a.m. local time on site that sonar detected potential ‘tapping sounds’ at the location, implying crew may be alive and signaling.” The Boston Coast Guard, which is leading the rescue efforts, did not immediately reply to a request for comment on the reported tapping sounds.

The mass email said that two Society members were onboard the Titan, and urged the group to contact their representatives about using remote-operated vehicles made by a private UK-based company. “A team out of the UK named Magellan has an ROV rated for 6,000 meters which is loaded on a plane and ready and waiting to help,” the email stated. “BUT THE US GOV and USCG have not yet given them permits to participate!” The Boston Coast Guard has not responded to questions about the depth grading of the ROVs currently in use in the search efforts or the proposal to use the UK company’s products.

On Tuesday evening, an e-mail update sent to DHS leadership and obtained by Rolling Stone stated that additional “acoustic feedback was heard and will assist in vectoring surface assets and also indicating continued hope of survivors.”

The e-mail added that a “white rectangular object” was located in the water, and that a research vessel “originally diverted to investigate” was “diverted to research the acoustic feedback instead.”

A commercial remotely operated vehicle (ROV) will continue its search into the evening, by rotating operators, the email read, noting that “rigging/recovery wire for possible recovery is standing by.”

Virginia band 49 Winchester will perform at 'Rolling Stone Writers' Room' live event with George Dickel Bourbon.
More assets are scheduled to arrive “in the near future,” including a U.S. Navy underwater salvage subject matter expert, and a Canadian Navy vessel with a mobile decompression chamber and medical personnel. They will arrive at the scene no later than 10 p.m. on Wednesday, the e-mail stated.

According to the Coast Guard, the Titan lost contact with its support ship one hour and 45 minutes into Sunday’s dive. A massive search and a race against time has ensued, since the craft reportedly had just 96 hours worth of oxygen available when it began its trip.

At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, the Coast Guard announced that search efforts “have not yielded any results.”

A DHS official told Rolling Stone, that as of 5 hours ago the Titan still had 40 hours of oxygen left and stated that the “situation looks bleak,” adding that they believe the banging was coming from the craft.

The Titan is a 21-foot-long vehicle from the tourism company OceanGate Expeditions. It’s a “Cyclops-class” craft with a single porthole for observation, designed to take paying customers on deep-sea explorations. In a statement, OceanGate said, “Our entire focus is on the crew members in the submersible and their families,” adding, “We are exploring and mobilizing all options to bring the crew back safely.”
