Miley’s aware that her explosion into early adulthood, whether riding naked on a demolition ball in the video for “Wrecking Ball” or her twerk-tastic performance at the 2013 MTV Music Video Awards, still occupies space in the public consciousness. “I was creating attention for myself because I was dividing myself from a character I had played. Anyone, when you’re 20 or 21, you have more to prove. ‘I’m not my parents.’ ‘I am who I am.’”
She is movingly even-natured when she goes on to describe the fallout: “I carried some guilt and shame around myself for years because of how much controversy and upset I really caused,” she says. “Now that I’m an adult, I realise how harshly I was judged. I was harshly judged as a child by adults and now, as an adult, I realise that I would never harshly judge a child.”
One’s reductive first instinct is to interpret her thrilling lack of chill as toxic-media-induced, post-child-stardom neurosis. But she is having none of that.
“One thing I wouldn’t want this story to become is a complaint of being a woman in the industry. I don’t need this to be a women’s empowerment story. I wear my empowerment at all times. I don’t need to profess it.”

The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member did just that during a recent trip to Turks and Caicos, feting the occasion with numerous friends and family and a ton of fabulous fashions.
"Making memories that will last a lifetime!" Kandi captioned a series of Instagram photos and videos on May 21, the first of which showed the Atlanta mom and several pals donning some seriously sexy swimsuits. Kandi, for her part, was positively glowing in a shiny plunging gold halter one-piece.
Kandi, whose birthday is May 17, paired her smoldering tropical style with aviator-style shades and gorgeous, beachy braids and curls. She smiled in the photos alongside friends, including close pal Shamea Morton and RHOA friend Monyetta Shaw-Carter.
Kandi has shared plenty of amazing snapshots from the idyllic vacation. On May 19, the songstress shared a cinematic video of herself and her husband, Todd Tucker, soaking up the sun while relaxing on the clear, aqua-colored water.
The footage, taken by The Looking Glass Watersports & Adventures, showed the Bravo couple getting cozy in a transparent kayak for Kandi's special weekend getaway. While the views of the incredible seascape were definitely jaw-dropping, we couldn't take our eyes off Kandi's cheeky white bikini. The swimsuit style included a halter top and a fishnet-style overlay that draped over her backside.
“My man, my man, my man!!!!!” Kandi captioned the Instagram video. “[Todd] outdid hisself with this bday trip! Thank you babe! I love you!!!”
Continuing with more white-hot looks, Kandi shared an edited video of her fabulous birthday dinner at The Shore Club Villas, where she and her guests stayed for the vacation.
"My hubby don’t play about me! Everything about last night was awesome!" the restaurateur captioned the post which showed the birthday beauty in a white one-shoulder midi dress with a sexy midriff cutout. Kandi paired her party style with large silver hoops and kept things more laid back with white sandals.
The video also showed the delicious-looking dinner spread which included a bevy of seafood and other meats, grilled vegetables, and an elaborate salad layout. There was also an array of colorful sweet treats and a native-style band that provided the perfect backdrop for some dancing.
"This trip is so bomb & everything is so perfect & beautiful!! This hotel is IT!!!" Monyetta commented on the video with her appreciation for the vacation. "So many wonderful moments for this trip!!!"

The countdown until Lil Durk’s upcoming Almost Healed album release is nearly over and the hype surrounding it is through the roof. Since his arrival on the music scene over 10 years ago, the Chicago rapper has put the work in to become a household name nationwide — and it feels like his takeover is just getting started. With summer around the corner, this is an ideal time for rappers to empty the clip with their bops and anthems to gain more notoriety. Durk understands this and it appears that he will be taking this upcoming season by storm.
Yesterday, the OTF (Only The Family) CEO heightened the fans’ anticipation with the release of the Almost Healed tracklist.
The project serves as Durk’s eighth studio album and the follow-up to his Loyal Bros 2 compilation LP with his OTF imprint. Taking to Instagram, the “Ahh Haa” rapper shared the offering’s tracklist, including the standout single “All My Life” featuring J. Cole. Laced with 21 records, other features include 21 Savage, Kodak Black, the late Juice WRLD, Rob49, Chief Wuk and Morgan Wallen. “May 26 Almost Healed. Call my bluff! Let me know which song I should drop tonight,” he said in the caption. Fans thought the album would come sooner, due to Durk releasing the album cover with the date set as May 12. Throwing everyone for a loop, this was actually the date that his collaboration with J. Cole was released.
In addition, the Chicago native dropped off the production credits (which is becoming more of a thing these days). Linking up with Alicia Keys, Chopsquad DJ, Zaytoven, ATL Jacob, Metro Boomin, Wheezy and many more, Lil Durk could very well have a classic project on his hands.

Lupita Nyong’o Addresses Rumors of Past Romance With Janelle Monáe
No mystery here: Lupita Nyong'o is a fan of Janelle Monáe. The Oscar winner and the Glass Onion star have been BFFs since first meeting at the 2014 Met Gala, sparking romance rumors with their close friendship over the years. Though Lupita is currently dating boyfriend Selema Masekela, she can totally see why people shipped the two as a couple.
"She has magnetism that they were obviously picking up on," Lupita told Rolling Stone in its new cover story about Janelle, who came out as pansexual in 2018. "She is that enigmatic. People are curious about enigmatic people."
Noting that she was "not surprised" by the dating speculation, Lupita continued, "I don't mind being associated with her in any capacity."
In fact, the Black Panther actress couldn't help but to gush over the multi-hyphenate for being "extremely gifted."

Former 'American Idol' Winner Just Sam 'Embarrassed' To Sing At N.Y.C. Subways Again For Money
Life isn't always easy for Just Sam despite winning "American Idol" three years ago. The season 18 winner of the hit singing competition show reveals that she's forced to return to singing at New York City subway stations to make money.
Sam has been sharing on her Instagram account videos of her singing at subway stations with a white donation box with her. She also opened up about her journey since launching to stardom on "American Idol" back in 2020.
"Back in 2021, I was super embarrassed to be going back to the trains," Sam wrote in a now-deleted Instagram comment, per The Sun. "I didn't want people to know that I legit needed the money. I didn't want people to know that it wasn't optional."
Sam went on to admit that she "was disappointed in [herself] for allowing [herself] to fall so low after winning Idol." She added, "But then I had to take it easy on me and remember that I started my journey with Idol at 20 years old."
Of her post-"American Idol" journey, the singer explained, "I have learned so much. I've been able to take my experiences and share them with other artists in hopes that they don't experience the same things that I did when It comes to making it in This life."
Sam reportedly noted that her season of "Idol" occurring in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic left her in a state of uncertainty about the future, but she "was ready and waiting for whatever it was." She divulged, "Everyone wants to know what happened and why this or why that & I will answer those questions someday, but in the meantime I'll say this. I never expected to win, but I did, I was so grateful and I know that people are feeling like I let them down."
"I know that everything happens for a reason and I know that this too shall pass no matter what things may look like right now," Sam allegedly said, adding that her grandmother, who knows "absolutely nothing about the music industry," is her main guidance and support system. "All she knows is how to listen and call out a good singer when she hears one," she noted.
"We didn't know what to do with the win especially being that we had absolutely no help," the "American Idol" alum continued, before concluding, "There are people who have had more success than me and good for them I'm happy for them, but I am not them. I don't like my situation, but it won't be this forever."
After winning "American Idol", Sam reportedly parted ways with Hollywood Records and had tried releasing music without help from a label. "I thought it was gonna be easy, just go to the studio, record, put out music," the "Question" singer wrote on Instagram Stories back in January 2022. "And that's not how the world works. That's not how the industry works. It takes time, it takes money that I don't have. It takes patience."
"I have people who are helping me. I'm putting out music when I can and when it's ready," Sam said. "It's just hard because I'm coming out of pocket and I have bills to pay. And American Idol is not going to pay my bills. Lionel Richie's not going to pay my bills. Katy Perry's not going to pay my bills. Luke Bryan is not going to pay my bills. I have to pay my rent. I have to make sure that I'm eating every day, which is hard to do."
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Rumored To Adapt Their Story Into Movie
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex are reportedly planning a feature-length film for Netflix. The pair - who stepped down as senior royals in the UK for the US in 2020 - are reported to feel that their Netflix documentary "Harry & Meghan" and Harry's tell-all memoir "SPARE" are "missing" many "nuances" of their story.
"There are a lot of nuances from their story that they feel are still missing after the documentary and Harry's book," a source told Closer magazine.
After landing a mega-money deal with the streaming giant, they are said to be "keen" to work with them again as they have more to say. The source added, "There is no doubt they would get a handsome payday for it, which is hugely tempting."
They are said to be waiting to see how the Netflix film "Scoop" about Prince Andrew's infamous car-crash interview with the BBC's Emily Maitlis goes down first. Rufus Sewell is playing the disgraced Duke of York and Gillian Anderson is journalist Emily in the film, which premieres on June 2.
Since their Netflix special and the book, the couple were involved in a paparazzi car chase. Harry, 38 and Meghan, 41, were pursued by photographers through the streets of New York on 16 May after they left the Ziegfeld Theater in midtown Manhattan.
A representative for the couple said they had been involved in a "near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi." They continued, "This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers. While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone's safety."
Harry and Meghan, who have son Archie, four, and 23-month-old daughter Lilibet together, said on Sunday, May 21 it was "abhorrent" to suggest their New York car chase was a publicity stunt. Their spokeswoman added that "one would have to think nothing of the couple" to believe the claim, and warned Harry had phone footage which might "turn out to be useful" if there is an investigation by police.
MTV Video Music Awards Will Return To N.J. Arena For 2023 Ceremony
For the third time in five years, New Jersey will host one of pop music’s biggest nights.
The MTV Video Music Awards will return to Prudential Center in Newark for its Sept. 12, 2023 ceremony, the arena announced Tuesday.
“The return of the VMAs to the Prudential Center testifies to New Jersey’s enduring standing as a premier venue for large-scale entertainment events,” said Gov. Phil Murphy in a statement. “As the home of some of the most internationally renowned names in the music industry, New Jersey is proud to once again partner with Paramount to showcase an array of exciting performances to a global audience. By hosting this highly anticipated spectacle, our state and local economies will also benefit from the thousands of visitors who will shop, dine, and stay in our local communities.”
The popular event first came to The Rock in 2019 and returned last year, with superstars Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow and Blackpink filing into the building.
The 2022 ceremony was emceed by Minaj, LL Cool J and Jack Harlow, and highlighted by Swift winning Video of the Year for her “All Too Well: The Short Film” and surprise-announcing her new album “Midnights,” which immediately launched Newark into the viral global stratosphere.
The MTV VMAs airs in more than 150 countries and territories, reaching over 319 million households, the arena said.
“We are incredibly proud to have the Prudential Center once again serve as the home for the 40th Annual MTV Video Music Awards,” said Jake Reynolds, president of Prudential Center, in a statement. “All eyes of the entertainment industry will be focused on Newark, New Jersey, as the brightest stars come together to perform at a marquee showcase within our world-class venue.”
Nominees, performers and presenters for the 2023 ceremony will be announced later this year.
Uh Oh! Kanye West Is Reportedly Being Sued By Gap For $2 Million
Earlier this month, it was reported that Adidas decided on a plan to sell the remaining Yeezy inventory after notoriously parting ways with Kanye West. However, the rapper is still in trouble — with Gap. In October, the company removed Yeezy products from its stores and shut down the Yeezy Gap website.
It looks like things are still not settled. According to TMZ, Gap has a $2 million lawsuit against West. Gap is being sued by Art City Center, who claim to own a building in Los Angeles that Gap leased as a storefront for Yeezy Gap products. Art City Center allege that unapproved alterations transpired at the property in 2021 and 2022 and are suing to restore the premises. As a result, Gap is apparently suing West.
Upon terminating their partnership with West, Gap representatives wrote in an official statement, “Our former partner’s recent remarks and behavior further underscore why we are taking immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap product from our stores and we have shut down [the Yeezy Gap site]. Antisemitism, racism, and hate in any form are inexcusable and not tolerated in accordance with our values. On behalf of our customers, employees, and shareholders, we are partnering with organizations that combat hate and discrimination.”
LeBron James plans to consider retirement as his 2023 NBA season comes to a close
There is a chance the NBA may have seen the last of LeBron James on the court as a player after he recently made a shocking comment.
On Monday (May 22), LeBron and the Los Angeles Lakers’ season ended after they fell 4-0 to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals. After the game, the 38-year-old Akron native spoke with ESPN during the news conference. He concluded the interview by stating, “Going forward with the game of basketball, I’ve got a lot to think about.”
Afterward, the sports outlet asked LeBron to elaborate further on his statement. “When you say you got to think about stuff, what thread should we be pulling on that?” the reporter asked. The USA gold medalist responded, “If I want to continue to play.” When asked if it meant next year, LeBron confirmed, “Yeah… I got to think about it.” He finished game four of the WCF series with 40 points, playing all but a few seconds.
During his playoff run, the four-time NBA Finals champion played with a right foot injury. He told reporters he will get an MRI to see how he has to proceed. Although LeBron has one year remaining on his contract with the Lakers, he has previously been adamant about playing with his son Bronny James before retiring. Even though he holds the league’s all-time scoring record, sharing the court with his son was his ultimate goal.
However, LeBron relaxed his expectations of the possible historical moment during the Lakers’ WCF series against the Golden State Warriors. “I’ve done what I’ve had to do in this league, and my son is going to take his journey,” he said. “So, just because that’s my aspiration or my goal doesn’t mean it’s his. And I’m absolutely okay with that.”
Bronny recently announced he will play collegiate basketball at the University of Southern California, just miles from the Lakers’ stadium.
Oakland A’s announcer Glen Kuiper fired following on-air racial slur
Glen Kuiper probably won’t be yelling, “Let’s play ball” into a mic anytime soon. As previously reported by REVOLT, the Oakland A’s announcer came under fire after saying “n**ger” during a live broadcast earlier this month. Today (May 23), it was revealed that his employment has been terminated.
“Following an internal review, the decision has been made for NBC Sports California to end its relationship with Glen Kuiper, effective immediately. We thank Glen for his dedication to Bay Area baseball over the years,” a statement from an NBC Sports California spokesperson read. “We had a phenomenal day today. N**ger Leagues Museum and Arthur Bryant’s Barbecue,” the former Oakland A’s sportscaster casually said during a televised May 5 road game against the Kansas City Royals.
While the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is located in Kansas City, Missouri, the “N**ger Leagues Museum” does not exist. Social media users noted the ease with which Kuiper said the slur and how there was little visible remorse. “See how comfortable he is using that word? He uses it a lot, I’ll bet,” one person tweeted. Another added, “That’s not a word you use accidentally unless you are used to using it on purpose.” Before the game ended, the Oakland A’s announcer issued an apology on-air: “A little bit earlier in the show, I said something, didn’t come out quite the way I wanted it to. I just wanted to apologize if it sounded different than I meant it to be said. I just wanted to apologize for that.”
Prior to his deeply racist slur being heard by the masses, Kuiper, 60, was the team’s go-to local broadcaster for 17 seasons. “It was a terrible but honest mispronunciation, and I take full responsibility… racism is in no way a part of me; it never has been, and it never will be… I am an honest, caring, kind, honorable, respectful husband and father who would never utter a disparaging word about anybody. Those who know me best know this about me. I wish the Oakland A’s and NBC Sports would have taken into consideration my 20-year career, my solid reputation, integrity, and character, but in this current environment, traits like integrity and character are no longer considered. I will always have a hard time understanding how one mistake in a 20-year broadcasting career is cause for termination, but I know something better is in my future,” he said in a statement.
'The Voice' Crowns a New Champion! Gina Miles Wins Season 23
Congratulations are in order for Gina Miles! Miles was crowned the winner of season 23 of The Voice on Tuesday night, making coach Niall Horan a first-time winner!
After host Carson Daly announced the winner, Horan ran up to the stage and gave Miles a big hug and she stood in shock.
Horan, 29, joined the show this season and is set to return for season 24.
Earlier in the night, Miles performed Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind" with Horan.
The 18-year-old singer beat out Team Blake's Grace West and NOIVAS, Team Chance's Sorelle and Team Kelly's D. Smooth.
The singer grew up in Paxton, Illinois, and later moved to Sacramento, California, to pursue a career in music.
Miles — who released her first EP, Who Are You, in 2022 — quickly caught the judges' attention during her battle round performance of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love."
On Monday night, ahead of the finale, Miles told PEOPLE she wanted to make the best of her experience during the last show.
“I’m going to live it up no matter what happens because to me it’s not about winning it’s just about the experience as it’s come along,” she said at the time. “For me, I never thought I would make it this far but I did.”
She added. “I want to be living my best life.”

Ukrainian Protester Pulled Off Cannes Red Carpet After Covering Herself in Fake Blood
A Ukrainian influencer was pulled off the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, after she covered herself in fake blood on the steps up to the Palais, staging a protest in support of Ukraine.
This year, the city of Cannes banned protests along the Croisette and its surroundings during the festival.
Ilona Chernobai — a Ukrainian fitness trainer with one million followers on Instagram — walked the red carpet at Cannes in a blue and yellow dress, symbolizing the Ukraine flag. As she got to the stairs, she pulled bags of fake blood from underneath her dress and poured them over herself. Security immediately grabbed her and escorted her off the carpet.
On her Instagram, Chernobai posted about her act of protest, writing, “The action was in support of the occupied territories and our people who live there.”
“On the red carpet of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, I came out in a dress in the colors of our flag and poured red paint on myself,” Chernobai wrote (in a post that has been translated to English by Variety). “I used my chance and with this act I reminded what is happening in Ukraine!!!”
She continued, “Unfortunately, I can no longer post all the events in stories, like many bloggers, because Instagram destroys everything! But my page is under threat of deletion! I am very glad that my act spread all over the world media! People should not forget about us!”
“I am with Ukraine in my heart,” she said. “I did what I had to do!”
Chernobai said in her post that she is now “banned from the festival” and many other events, “but it’s worth it.”
In light of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Cannes banned Russian delegates from the festival in 2022, writing in a statement, “We will not welcome official Russian delegations nor accept the presence of anyone linked to the Russian government.”
As the 2023 edition continues, the Ukrainian League of Cinemas called on participants of the festival to halt all business with Russia rather than support “terrorism,” causing industry professionals to weigh the moral cost of working in the country against the financial upside of releasing films in the lucrative Russian market.
Target is removing some LGBTQ merchandise following customer backlash
Target, which rolled out its Pride Collection at the start of May, is pulling some products from its stores after facing customer backlash, saying it was acting to protect employee safety, the company told Reuters on Tuesday.
Target Corp (TGT) is offering more than 2,000 products, including clothing, books, music and home furnishings as part of its Pride Collection. The items include “gender fluid” mugs, “queer all year” calendars and books for children aged 2-8 titled “Bye Bye, Binary,” “Pride 1,2,3” and “I’m not a girl.”
“Since introducing this year’s collection, we’ve experienced threats impacting our team members’ sense of safety and wellbeing while at work,” Target said in a statement.
“Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior,” the Minneapolis-based retailer said.
Target has been celebrating Pride Month for more than a decade. But this year’s collection has led to an increase in confrontations between customers and employees and incidents of Pride merchandise being thrown on the floor, Target spokesperson Kayla Castaneda said.
Target’s action comes on the heels of a conservative backlash against Bud Light, after brewer Anheuser-Busch promoted the beer on social media last month with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
The products Target is withdrawing are being removed from all its US stores and from its website, Castaneda said.
While various Pride Collection products are under review, the only ones now being removed are the LGBTQ brand Abprallen, which has come under scrutiny for its association with British designer Eric Carnell.
Carnell has faced social media backlash for designing merchandise with images of pentagrams, horned skulls and other Satanic products.
A search for Abprallen merchandise on Target.com on Tuesday showed “0” results.
Screenshots and posts on social media show that Target previously sold a $25 slogan sweater with the words “cure transphobia not trans people” and an $18 “too queer for here” tote bag.
Target is also reviewing certain transgender swimsuits and children’s merchandise, Castaneda said, but no decision on those products has yet been made.
For example, a swimsuit sold in the women’s section has come under scrutiny for the way its fit was described, as “tuck friendly,” highlighted its ability to supposedly tuck male genitalia.

Netflix is officially beginning its crackdown on users who share passwords in the United States.
The streaming video company on Tuesday said it is now sending out emails to all US subscribers who share passwords with people outside their household, as part of a long planned move to limit password sharing.
“Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with — your household,” the email reads, along with options on how to share the account.
To share an account with someone outside a household, a user can transfer a profile to a new membership that they pay for or else add an extra member to their account for an additional $7.99 monthly fee.
Netflix previously turned a blind eye to password sharing because it was fueling growth. However, last year it said that it was going to crack down on password sharing because it hurts its bottom line. It has previously been estimated that more than 100 million households worldwide share an account.
The company started to clamp down on password sharing in several countries earlier this year, including Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain.
Netflix (NFLX) recently reported a net increase of 1.75 million global streaming subscribers in the first quarter, up nearly 5% from the same period in the prior year, but below the more than 3 million Wall Street analysts had expected.
Netflix said in an earnings call last month that it has seen a “cancel reaction in each market when we announce the news” about the paid sharing option, but then it sees “increased acquisition and revenue.”

According to The Miami Herald, a local parent named Daily Salinas voiced concerns about the poem’s appropriateness for students, leading to its ban. Salinas didn’t stop there, though. She also challenged four other books: “The ABCs of Black History,” “Cuban Kids,” “Countries in the News Cuba,” and “Love to Langston.” Salinas claimed that these books contained “hidden messages of hate” influenced by something called critical race theory.
Salinas clarified to The Miami Herald that she does not favor censoring materials but believes that students should have access to accurate information about Cuba. She expressed her dissatisfaction with the fact that the books she objected to were still available for middle school students, arguing that they were inappropriate for all age groups.
