#MAGFAB: Adut Akech Shares Brother Bior Akech in 'Rising Up' by Josh Olins for Vogue Australia April 2023
Adut and Bior Akech Are 'Rising Up' in Josh Olins Vogue Australia April 2023 Cover Story AOC Fashion
Supermodel Adut Akech introduces fashion world to her brother Bior Akech, with three covers in the April 2023 issue of Vogue Australia. Christine Centenera styles the shoot with photography by Josh Olins [IG]./ Hair by Sophie Roberts; makeup by Kellie Stratton
Adut’s younger brother Bior, age 17, remains currently in Adelaide, Australia, where he is finishing school.
The word ‘supermodel’ is almost meaningless today, it is so bandied about with no clear understanding of what is means to be a supermodel.
Adut Akech is a supermodel with 1.8 M followers which is very high for a model — as opposed to a Kardashian or Bieber or Jenner. They are in their own league.
Adut has worked hard to achieve her status as a supermodel, which took a major step forward in credentials when she became an ambassador for Estee Lauder in June 2021. Yes, the wind has been at her back with the industry really opening up and owning the racism models of color have faced as models.
Many people don’t understand that the competition has also been fierce among new models of color and especially among the refugee models having left South Sudan. When AOC cites ‘competition’, we only mean a very large number of models — so large that not everyone can be even moderately successful, let alone achieve Adut’s status.
We’re not suggesting any negativity or jealousy among the models of color. Modeling is a business where not everyone succeeds. In fact, many do not succeed as models, and that reality has nothing to do with skin color.
While we process Adut and Bior’s interview with Vogue Australia and the fashion shoot, we direct readers to the story of her family’s journey out of Kenya’s Kakuma refugee camp and onto Australia. It’s a journey that many of the models have taken — a life path that few of us can understand.
In her Vogue Australia December 2018 interview about her family, Adut made a statement that she continues to embrace, in spite of her great success:
“Even if I become the richest model in the world I will still be a refugee. I am a refugee.”
Often, Adut adds: “And I will always be a refugee.”
#RHOA: Alum Cynthia Bailey’s Weight Loss Transformation Is Hot! See Her Before, After Photos
Coming for necks! The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Cynthia Bailey has been dropping thirst traps on Instagram and we can’t get over how amazing she looks! The former model showed off her best poses via Instagram in April 2023, while giving fans an update on her amazing weight loss journey.
The reality star shared that she gained 20 pounds amid the COVID-19 lockdown during the season 13 premiere of RHOA in December 2020. Three months prior, Cynthia shared she was on a weight loss journey in preparation for her wedding with ex-husband Mike Hill. At the time, the Bravolebrity was splitting her time between Los Angeles, where Mike lived, and Atlanta where she resides.
“I was here at Lake Bailey by myself, so I was able to, kind of, control what’s in the refrigerator,” she told Us Weekly in August 2020. “I was able to be healthy. I was able to like, you know, start exercising again and just get control over my diet and my eating.”
Almost three years later, Cynthia entered another weight loss journey – this time, she was all about sticking to a killer fitness routine!
“One of my New Year’s resolution was to start working out consistently with my trainer @teegymjunkie @litfitnutrition! I dropped the ball the first week, but I was determined to start this week. I had a great work out, and after I made her turn up with me to celebrate [sic]!” Cynthia captioned her first Instagram gym check-in on January 9, 2023.
The Bailey Wine Cellar CEO posted another workout clip the following day while being fully transparent on her health journey, admitting that she “sucks” at working out and hadn’t consistently worked out in “a very LONG while.” However, she walks a lot – sometimes for miles – to help gain a clear head. Although the exercise is good for her mind, Cynthia revealed she doesn’t lose weight from it.
“I am in terrible shape. So I promised myself to focus on being a BETTER ME (inside & out) for 2023 & actually from now on. So I committed to working out 3 days a week with a trainer. This was my first day working out with my trainer … she took it easy on me (well not that easy but a lil bit anyway lol) [sic],” she captioned her Instagram post. “I struggled a little because again, I am DEFINITELY out of shape. But I made it through. I did everything that she asked me to do. I am so proud that I actually have committed & did pretty well. Inspired & motivated to continue.
Day 1 is the hardest & committing is the toughest [sic].”
One thing is for sure, Cynthia Bailey has obtained a newfound glow since entering her fitness girl era!

Rihanna Buys $21 Million Century City Penthouse
As she prepares to welcome her second child, the billionaire pop icon is upgrading to a deluxe penthouse in the sky. According to Dirt.com, Rihanna has purchased a $21 million penthouse in Century City, Calif.
The 9,290-square-foot luxury condo is located at The Century, one of the most expensive and prestigious residential skyscrapers in Los Angeles.
The 35-year-old singer currently owns a 3-bedroom, 3,500-square-foot unit in the building, but her new digs are almost three times the size and occupy the building’s entire 40th floor.
The 4-bedroom, 6.5-bathroom home, which she purchased from Afterpay co-founder Nick Molnar, was originally listed for $28 million, but Rihanna negotiated a hefty discount.
The lavish amenities include a private elevator, floor-to-ceiling windows with skyline views, dark brown hardwood floors, and an all-white kitchen with marble countertops. Other features include a soundproof movie theater, master suite with curved bedroom, and private lounge.
Rihanna’s famous neighbors at The Century include Denzel Washington, reality stars Terry and Heather Dubrow, and Candy Spelling, who lives on the two floors above Rihanna.
The Fenty Beauty mogul, who is worth a reported $1.4 billion, already has an impressive real estate portfolio including two properties in Beverly Hills. Back in 2021, she paid $23.8 million for the side-by-side mansions, which she reportedly leases.
Wendy Williams’ brother furiously slams her management team for filming reality show despite ex-host’s ‘sad’ condition
Wendy Williams' brother has slammed her management team for filming her reality show despite the ex-daytime talk show host's "sad" condition.
A furious Tommy Williams opened up to The U.S. Sun in an exclusive video interview about Wendy's visit to Florida over the weekend, where she filmed with him and other family members.
Tommy Williams exclusively told The U.S. Sun that said his sister is not in the right mind frame to be filming a TV show
Wendy's younger brother said he and his elderly father filmed with the former daytime talk show host, 58, over the course of several days last week.
He told The U.S. Sun: "This is not a woman who is in the right frame of mind to get a show going."
Tommy, 54, wondered why the film crew was even there.
"Why are you even here? Do you see the condition she's in? Does it look like she's ready to start a podcast for goodness sake? It doesn't."
"This guy Will is ponying Wendy around- 'travel here, travel there, let's go make this money, and I don't care if you're making sense because everybody knows who you are,'" he said, referencing Wendy's manager, Will Selby.
"And the shock value is going to be where she was and where she is now?" Tommy questioned while motioning his hands.
"Is that going to be the show? Is that it? Is that what my dad has to look forward to watching? To shove our face in the f***ing manure?"
"Whatever they do with it, they're gonna do. It's gonna be sad."
He added that while he was frustrated at the production, he isn't mad at his sister for any of it.
"I can't blame Wendy for anything! I want her to get better! She is not better. So I can't be mad at her for any of this."
Tommy also expressed concern over how this production could impact Wendy in the future.
"So it comes out and what happens if Wendy is doing much, much better, right?
"Who wants these kinds of memories? Who wants this? Why couldn't she just get better, all the way? And then do something.
"All this time people have been kicking her around. She can't be contemplating s*** because she can't think it through, so other people are thinking things through for her.
"And all this time she could have been down here recovering," Tommy said woefully.
Wendy's frustrated brother called her current condition "sad," and added that she's in "poor health."
In a response to a request for comment, Wendy's manager, Will, said: "Tommy didn’t say a word to me about any frustration so that doesn’t sound true."
Tommy claimed that Wendy's manager did not introduce himself or speak to him or their father while they filmed.
Wendy's publicist did not respond to the request for comment.
Tommy had posted a video to his YouTube channel in between filming days about how things were going, but insisted he was trying to stay positive as the days went by.
Brittney Griner writing memoir about 'harrowing' time in Russian prison
Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner was released from a Russian penal colony four months ago, and soon the world will know about what she experienced during her incarceration.
Griner, who was arrested in February 2022 when Russian airport officials found marijuana vape cartridges in her luggage, is currently working on a memoir about her 10 months as a Russian prisoner. Publisher Alfred A. Knopf announced the currently untitled book on Tuesday, which is scheduled to be released in spring 2024. Griner herself also announced the news on Instagram.
"I arrived in Moscow to rejoin the UMMC Ekaterinburg basketball team and was immediately detained at the airport. That day was the beginning of an unfathomable period in my life which only now am I ready to share.
"The primary reason I traveled back to Russia for work that day was because I wanted to make my wife, family, and teammates proud. After an incredibly challenging 10 months in detainment, I am grateful to have been rescued and to be home. Readers will hear my story and understand why I’m so thankful for the outpouring of support from people across the world."
Marijuana is illegal in Russia, so Griner was charged with a drug offense that carries up to 10 years in prison. The U.S. government classified her as wrongfully detained and worked to free her, but Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine made diplomacy extremely complicated.
In August she was convicted and sentenced to nine years in a women's penal colony. Her appeal was denied in October and she was moved to the colony shortly after. One month later, on Dec. 8, 2022, Griner was freed in exchange for notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
Here's more about the book, via The Associated Press:
In Tuesday's press statement, Knopf said that the book would be "intimate and moving" and that Griner would disclose "in vivid detail her harrowing experience of her wrongful detainment (as classified by the State Department) and the difficulty of navigating the byzantine Russian legal system in a language she did not speak."
“Griner also describes her stark and surreal time living in a foreign prison and the terrifying aspects of day-to-day life in a women’s penal colony. At the heart of the book, Griner highlights the personal turmoil she experienced during the near ten-month ordeal and the resilience that carried her through to the day of her return to the United States last December.”
This will be Griner's second memoir. Her first, "In My Skin: My Life On and Off the Basketball Court," was published in 2014.
Since her release, Griner has signed a one-year contract to rejoin the Mercury for the 2023 season, made several public appearances, thrown her wife Cherelle (Griner's tireless advocate during her imprisonment) a belated 30th birthday party, and advocated for the release of other Russian prisoners like Paul Whelan and Evan Gershkovich. She hasn't spoken publicly about her ordeal yet, so this book will be the first time she will tell her story.
Florida GOP legislator apologizes after calling transgender people 'mutants' and 'demons'
A Republican state legislator in Florida apologized Monday after he called transgender people "demons" and "mutants" at a legislative hearing.
State Rep. Webster Barnaby had lashed out at transgender people earlier in the day at a Commerce Committee hearing on the Safety in Private Spaces Act, a bill that would criminalize using restrooms that match people's gender identities when the restrooms don’t match their “biological sex.”
Barnaby, who referred to himself as a conservative Christian, staunchly defended the bill, saying he was "not on the fence" about what it would do.
"We have people that live among us today on planet Earth that are happy to display themselves as if they were mutants from another planet. This is the planet Earth with God-created men, male, and women, female," he said.
"That’s right, I called you demons and imps who come and parade before us and pretend that you are part of this world," he added.
Barnaby later offered an apology.
“I would like to apologize to the trans community for referring to you as demons,” he said.Barnaby, who was first elected to the Florida House in 2020, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday night.
In recent years, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state’s GOP-dominated Legislature have enacted laws that ban classroom discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in primary schools, with related measures under consideration during the current legislative session.
Florida last month joined more than a half-dozen other states in restricting transition-related medical care for minors. The Florida Board of Medicine enacted a rule that bars minors from starting puberty blockers or hormone therapy, sparking backlash from parents of transgender youths in the state.
Amanda Bynes released from hospital, 3 weeks after being placed on psychiatric hold.
Amanda Bynes has been released from a mental health facility after three weeks, according to multiple reports.
Sources close to Bynes told TMZ she left a hospital in Southern California on Monday after both medical professionals and the actress determined she was ready. The outlet claims Bynes, 37, will undergo outpatient treatment as she resumes normal activities. A source confirmed to NBC News that Bynes has left the facility and is currently receiving outpatient care.
Yahoo reached out to a rep for Bynes, but did not receive a response. The actress's family has not spoken publicly about the situation.
Last month, Bynes was placed on a 5150 hold, which is when a person can be involuntarily held for psychiatric assessment and crisis intervention for up to 72 hours. The She's the Man star was reportedly found wandering around downtown Los Angeles naked and alone when she came out of a psychotic episode. Bynes purportedly flagged a car down and asked for help herself. She was taken to a nearby police station, according to TMZ, and a mental health team determined she needed to be placed on a 5150. The hold was reportedly extended and Bynes remained as an in-patient.
Bynes has spoken out about battling a drug addiction to Adderall. In 2014, around when the Easy A star's conservatorship was made permanent, Bynes claimed on Twitter that she had been diagnosed with bipolar affective disorder and manic depression, but later walked the statement back.
In March 2022, Bynes was released from a conservatorship after nine years with her parents support.
"Following today's decision by the judge to terminate my conservatorship, I would like to thank my fans for their love and well wishes during this time. I would also like to thank my lawyer and my parents for their support over the last nine years," Bynes said at the time via her attorney.
"In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently, and I will continue to prioritize my well-being in this next chapter," she concluded. "I am excited about my upcoming endeavors — including my fragrance line — and look forward to sharing more when I can."
According to TMZ, Bynes's parents are not considering another conservatorship.
Parents claim Georgia teacher allowed students to harass Black teen: "How much for your monkey?"
A Georgia middle school teacher is in the hot seat after reportedly failing to properly diffuse and report alleged racist abuse at the hands of their students. The minors involved are also facing criminal charges.
In an article published yesterday (April 10) by Atlanta news station WSB-TV, a reporter from the outlet spoke with the parents of the unnamed alleged victim. The girl, a student at Radloff Middle School in Gwinnett County, told her mother and father that she was harassed by Hispanic kids who called her racist names and beat her with a belt while the instructor, who is said to have witnessed the degrading acts, barely intervened. After finding out, the parents went to the school, only to learn that it wasn’t reported to administrators.
The girl’s father recalled what his child told him of the horrific experience: “She was sitting with a Hispanic child, and the other Hispanic child approached them and said, ‘How much for your monkey?’ And the child responded, ‘$450.’ And so the main child said, ‘Alright,’ looked at my daughter and said, ‘Alright, I own you now (expletive). Do my homework, slave.’ My daughter refused, and that’s when the child asked the other child to remove his belt, and he gave her some lashings. And that’s when the teacher initially said, ‘Alright you boys, leave her alone.’” The mother noted that things got so bad that last month, the teen asked to be picked up from the Georgia school because she no longer felt safe.
After hearing the child’s account, administrators released a statement and suspended the Hispanic students before police also became involved. The minor’s parents admitted they are pleased with how the Georgia middle school handled the situation but said they do not understand why their daughter’s teacher allowed so much to go on. “I don’t think time heals wounds when it comes to racism,” her father stated. He added, “There’s no safe place. There should be several options for kids in that type of situation where they can walk out immediately, go to someone immediately, have something done immediately.”
Prince Harry to Attend King Charles' Coronation, Meghan Markle & Kids Will Not
The Palace just released a statement confirming Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s RSVP for the Coronation of King Charles.
The Coronation is set to take place on Saturday (May 6), and it looks like three members of the family are not planning to attend.
Prince Harry will be attending the Coronation of his father, while Meghan will stay in California with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. May 6 also happens to be Prince Archie’s 4th birthday.
The statement from the Palace reads, “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6th. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”
Meghan and Prince Harry had reportedly made three requests of the Palace in order to attend, and it looks like it’s possible those requests were not going to be made based on these RSVPs.

From Nov. 3-5, thousands of Bravoholics will descend upon Caesars Forum for the opportunity to rub shoulders with Bravolebrities and connect with fellow superfans. Special editions of Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live,” complete with a Bravo Clubhouse, will also return for the weekend.

After its 2019 debut, BravoCon was put on pause due to the pandemic. It roared back to life in 2022: Variety exclusively reported that the event drove 74 million cross-platform engagements, up double- and triple-digits across platforms from the 2019 convention.
With dozens of panels, meet-and-greets, installations, a Bravoleb bazaar and more, BravoCon made its mark on social media with over 85,000 mentions over the course of the convention, resulting in approximately 1.36 billion impressions.
Last year’s fan experience was jam-packed with news, including the reveal of the rebooted “Real Housewives of New York” cast and a dramatic “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” panel during which the crowd loudly booed Lisa Rinna.
Ticket information isn’t available just yet, but BravoCon’s official hotel partners are Caesars Palace, Harrah’s and The Linq.
Former Pussycat Dolls Member Kaya Jones Claims She Was Forced To Have An Abortion To Stay In The Group
A former member of the Pussycat Dolls has claimed she was forced to have an abortion during her short time with the group when she was 19.
In a recent interview on Tucker Carlson Today singer and actress Kaya Jones, who left the girl group in 2004, alleged "the powers that be" pressured her to get an abortion.
"I was told to get rid of it," she told Carlson on Monday.
The star explained she'd had an abortion at 16 prior to her stint in the girl group, but that in those circumstances the decision was her choice, unlike the procedure she says she was pressured to undergo at 19.

"Now, being in the height of this position in my job and really not wanting to lose my job, I was told to get rid of it so I went and got rid of it between rehearsals," she said.
"It's no coincidence that few of the women have children. That's the pressure, forcing abortion, you're fired if you're pregnant."
Jones said she was experiencing hemorrhaging and feeling ill while performing, all the while facing critics who labelled her "fat".
"It's to control you. You're told, like, 'Why does your butt look like it had like a pizza sewn on it?'" she said.
Expanding on her point on control, the The Devil's Dozen star claimed the women in the group were treated as replaceable.

"We were put together and it was cast like a show and it was mechanical chairs, if you ever decided to leave, if you got hurt, you were replaced," she said.
Despite leaving the Pussycat Dolls before their rise to fame on the back of two studio albums released in 2005 and 2008, Jones felt that she – along with other members of the group – were heavily exploited.
"You're paid a weekly stipend and people didn't even believe what we were paid," she said, admitting she kept her payment stubs.
"We were mistreated, it wasn't what people thought it was."
Jones previously sparked controversy in 2017 after using Twitter to allege the group had been a "prostitution ring".

Her claims were contested via an official statement by the Pussycat Dolls and another by choreographer and founder of the group, Robin Antin, who called them "disgusting, ridiculous lies."
Speaking on this controversy, Jones said she never used the terms absolutely.
"I've used words like 'trafficked' or 'prostitution ring' and it's not because we were actually one, but because it felt like that," she said.
"It felt like we were slaves."
Jones also noted she wouldn't speak to the experiences of the other girls but alluded there is more to the story.
"I know when everything comes out, the world will be on their side for sure," she said.

Larson hinted at what fans can expect when during the trailer debut on “Good Morning America” this week.
“The first one was the origin story of who she is. Now it’s digging into some of the complexities,” she revealed. “That there is much more to her than that, that there are parts that are not so great about her. That we can see a hero as being a person that doesn’t make every right decision all the time.”
“Candyman” director Nia DaCosta directed “The Marvels,” making her the first Black woman to helm a Marvel film.
“The thing that I love about Marvel, is that they continue to reinvent. They continue to do the thing that you just would never think would be possible in these films,” said Larson in an interview with Uproxx. “And they’re not afraid to go there. So I’m super excited about what we did. I think there are some huge personal achievements of mine that I’m really excited about sharing, but you know, it’s fun to have a bit of a secret. And it’s fun to know that, when this film comes out, people are going to be delighted. And I get to keep that to myself for a little bit longer.”
Air Jordan 13s From Michael Jordan’s Last Chicago Bulls Run Sell For Record $2.2 Million
Sotheby has set a record for the highest price a pair of sneakers has ever sold for. According to ESPN, Michael Jordan’s Air Jordan XIII “Breds” sold for $2,238,000. The sneakers were worn during Mike’s “Last Dance” run.
The Jordan 13s were worn during the 1998 NBA Finals, specifically game 2. MJ would drop 37 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in the 93-88 win over the Utah Jazz. The sneakers were part of the run to Jordan’s last championship.
The sneakers were gifted to a Utah Jazz ball boy who helped Jordan recover a lost jacket.
“Today’s record-breaking result further proves that the demand for Michael Jordan sports memorabilia continues to outperform and transcend all expectations,” Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectables, said in a statement. “Sotheby’s is extremely proud to hold the world record for most valuable game-worn sports memorabilia at auction and the most valuable sneakers ever sold, both of which — to no surprise — are directly tied to the global icon, Michael Jordan.”
Elon Musk Deleting Legacy Blue Checks On 4/20
Elon Musk has confirmed all legacy blue checks will be scrapped by April 20th, the annual smoker’s holiday.
It’s unclear why Musk designated 4/20 as the day to eliminate legacy blue checks. It could be a coincidence, or this could be some bigger plan to commemorate the marijuana-friendly day. Celebrities and other official accounts that have been previously verified will lose the check mark in their profile unless they subscribe to Twitter Blue. The service is $8 a month if you sign up via the web and $11 if you sign up on iOS. Businesses and organizations may have to pay $1,000 monthly for their verification badges. Gold checkmarks will be issued to brands, companies, and nonprofits, while gray checks will be assigned to government agencies under this subscription.
Musk previously confirmed that the legacy blue checks would be gone by April 1st. That date came and went, but the Twitter leader said he would allow a “grace period” to give everyone time to subscribe, though many big names refuse to. Last month, LeBron James said he was okay with losing his blue check because he would not pay, for the service. Author Stephen King also rejected the idea.
Musk is trying hard to push Twitter Blue as a way to bring in some much-needed revenue to the company. He is even planning to alter the way timelines are presented for those without a blue check. Non-verified accounts will no longer be recommended in the “For You” section beginning April 15th.
Will you be subscribing to Twitter Blue?
AND FINALLY FROM “THE CRAZY PEOPLE SHOPPING AT WALMART” FILES
HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL!!!
