#RHOA: Phaedra Parks teases full-time ‘RHODubai’ role: I can bring ‘the ratings’
Phaedra Parks dropped her peach years ago — and now she’s ready to pick up bars of gold.
The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum tells Page Six exclusively that joining “The Real Housewives of Dubai” could boost ratings for Bravo’s latest iteration of its flagship franchise.

“What brings in the ratings brings in the ratings, honey. Just look at the numbers,” the reality star says, responding to recent shade thrown by “RHODubai” cast members Chanel Ayan and Lesa Milan.

The duo expressed in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” that their show was “good” without Parks, leaving the “Secrets of the Southern Belle” author confused.

“I like Lesa and I love Chanel Ayan. I didn’t hear that, but OK, that’s fine,” she tells us. “I don’t think we have an issue.”

Parks appeared on an early episode of “Dubai,” during which she caught up with her good pal Caroline Brooks and later joined the rest of the women for indoor skiing. Her cameo left fans — many of whom were delighted by her participation on Peacock’s “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Ex-Wives Club” — wanting more.

The attorney, who has business dealings in the City of Gold, tells Page Six that she felt connected to the most of the group while filming abroad.
“All of the ladies on the show, they have boys,” she says, acknowledging Ayan, Milan, Brooks, Caroline Stanbury, Sara Al Madani and Nina Ali. “So that’s something we all have in common, we all have sons. So we forged a real friendship.”

But, per Bravo Instagram fan account @queensofbravo, Ayan claimed to not know Parks on any such level in a since-deleted Tuesday tweet.

“To the thirsty Ex-housewife- shut the f—k up. You only met me once for 5 min. Let’s not make it a @Kandi situation with lies,” the model wrote, referencing the demise of Parks’ friendship with Kandi Burruss that coincided with her 2017 exit from “Atlanta.”

Regardless of any vitriol, Parks says she is looking forward to a “transcontinental” lifestyle as real estate pro Brooks aids in her search for the perfect home in the Middle East. The single mom of two — who shares Ayden, 12, and Dylan, 9, with ex-husband Apollo Nida — plans to bring her kids along for the ride.

“I’ve seen a few homes, but I want to actually go out there. Caroline Brooks is amazing. She knows real estate very well. She’s been doing this forever out there. I want to go so we can make a decision as a family, so it’s not just me looking form afar,” she explains.

Parks expects to feel “right at home” — among friends and foes — should “RHODubai” cameras capture her next chapter.

“What makes an ensemble cast an ensemble cast is because everyone plays their part and everyone’s being an individual. There’s no queen bee, there are a few snooze-fests,” she points out. “But when you’re being your authentic self and you’re enjoying yourself, it will fall in place and you’ll have a great franchise.”

Adds Parks, “I think that franchise definitely has potential to be great. Dubai is such a beautiful place … So I just feel it’s the home for me, honey.”

If Parks is eventually cast on “Dubai,” she would become the second “Housewife” in franchise history to to change cities after ex-“Beverly Hills” star Taylor Armstrong was announced as a “friend of” on the next season of “Orange County.”

“The Real Housewives of Dubai” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

#MusicNews: Beyoncé Removes Kelis Interpolation from Renaissance Track “Energy”
The post Beyoncé Removes Kelis Interpolation from Renaissance Track “Energy” appeared first on Consequence.

After Kelis called her out for using her song “Milkshake” without permission, Beyoncé has removed the interpolation from Renaissance.

The Renaissance song “Energy” contains the interpolation of “Milkshake;” notably, Bey sings a spin on the song’s classic “la la, la la la” hook toward the end of the track. While Beyoncé credited Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, the official writers and producers of “Milkshake,” Kelis expressed frustration for not being contacted about the interpolation as a common courtesy.

Now, Rolling Stone reports that the interpolation has been removed from “Energy” as it appears on streaming services, including Apple Music and Tidal. It’s worth noting that the official credits on Beyoncé’s website still mention the interpolation, referring to “Milkshake” as “Written by Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo and performed by Kelis.”

The famously enigmatic Beyoncé has suffered a series of rare blips with Renaissance. In Europe, the Lemonade follow-up was leaked two days early. Then, soon after the album’s official release, representatives for the singer announced that the word “spaz” would be removed from the song “Heated” after many pointed out that it’s often used as an ableist slur (Coincidentally, Lizzo came under fire for using the same word in her song “Grrrls” back in June, and she altered her lyrics as well).

Still, Queen Bey managed to snag two Songs of the Week with the project: “BREAK MY SOUL” and “ALIEN SUPERSTAR.”

The Late Michael K. Williams memoir recounts actor meeting Obama while high on drugs, ‘whacked out of my mind’
Michael K. Williams talks about the day he met President Barack Obama in his forthcoming memoir.

The beloved actor, who was 54 when he died Sept. 6 of an accidental drug overdose from heroin, cocaine, fentanyl and p-fluorofentanyl, attended one of Obama’s campaign events in 2008.

Williams was high when he greeted the future president.

It’s something he shared years before his death, and again in his upcoming book “Scenes from my Life,” co-authored with Jon Sternfeld, who finished the title after the actor died.
Obama has been a vocal fan of “The Wire,” the HBO show in which Williams starred as formidable stickup man Omar Little.

The former president has called Omar the best character on the acclaimed series. Series creator David Simon based the character, who robbed drug dealers, on Donnie Andrews, a Baltimore man he met when he was a reporter for The Baltimore Sun.

Williams had been invited to Obama’s town hall in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

“I’d just come off a three-day cocaine bender and was whacked out of my mind,” the actor writes in part of the book obtained by The Daily Mail.

After the event, Obama went looking for Williams.
“Where’s Omar at? What’s good with you, man?” Williams recalls him saying.
“G-G-God bless you, bro,” the actor stuttered in reply.

“I couldn’t even put my words together,” Williams writes of the event. “I was such a mess. Obama shook my hand and I could see it in his eyes. He was like: ‘I don’t got time for this.’ He kept it moving. I was not in my right mind. I told people I was nervous but actually I had lockjaw from too much cocaine.”

In 2017, Williams told The New York Times the Obama moment was a defining one.

“Hearing my name come out of his mouth woke me up,” he said. “I realized that my work could actually make a difference.”

Williams, who spoke about doing drugs in Newark during his run on “The Wire” — “in scary places with scary people,” he told Inside Jersey in 2012 — found community and a road to recovery at Christian Love Baptist Church in Irvington.

In the book, Williams, who grew up in Brooklyn, says his mother Paula could be violent toward him.
“You got that touch of evil in you,” he says she told him. A feeling of unworthiness stayed with him, he says, causing him to turn to drugs and violence.

Williams played fan favorite Omar on “The Wire” from 2002 to 2008. The actor’s other TV roles included Albert “Chalky” White in HBO’s Atlantic City-set drama “Boardwalk Empire,” Montrose Freeman in HBO’s “Lovecraft Country,” Albert Pine in SundanceTV’s “Hap and Leonard,” Bobby McCray in Netflix’s “When They See Us,” Jack Gee in HBO’s “Bessie” and Freddy Knight in HBO’s “The Night Of.”

He appeared in the films “12 Years a Slave” (2013), “Inherent Vice” (2014), “Ghostbusters” (2016) and “Motherless Brooklyn” (2019).

Michael K. Williams’ book “Scenes from My Life” is out August 23 from Penguin Random House.

Tyler Perry Once Paid The Late Cicely Tyson $1M For One Day Of Work To Give Her 'Some Security In Her Latter Years'
Tyler Perry is a man of many talents! Yet, he played it small early on.
“I was able to make some incredible deals by allowing people to underestimate me. I always played it small, listened to what they had to say and made the deal. I’d say, “Well, I’ve got to own it.” They’d say, “Oh, OK — whatever.” They didn’t think that my first film [2005’s Diary of a Mad Black Woman, which debuted at number 1] was going to amount to much. But the support I had from the audience that knew me — those voices, those standing ovations — gave me the confidence to understand that it’s a blessing to be hidden,” Tyler Perry told AARP The Magazine.

The film, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” was a box office hit, earning over $50 million, and making headlines for earning the top spot during its debut week in 2005.

What’s more, the romantic comedic drama earned nine times its production budget and made Tyler Perry, and his portrayal of the character Madea, household names.

While he reached success early on, Perry wanted to give flowers to the greats he worked with on his projects, one of them being the late Cicely Tyson.

Perry told AARP he was appalled by the compensation Tyson had received for the 1972 film “Sounder.” Tyson only made $6,000 as a supportive actress in the film.

Perry took Tyson under his arms for the latter years of her life, because he wanted to remind her “that there were people who valued her.” To prove this, Perry paid Tyson $1 million for one day of work for the 2007 film “Why Did I Get Married.”

“I’ve never said this publicly, but I took care of Ms. Tyson for the last 15 years of her life,” Tyler Perry told AARP. “She was a proud woman, and the only reason I mention this is because she wrote it in her book. This woman had done so many amazing things, but she wasn’t well compensated for it. She made $6,000 for Sounder, you know? I wanted to make sure she knew that there were people who valued her. So, she did one day of work on my 2007 film Why Did I Get Married? I paid her a million dollars. I loved working with her. And it makes me feel great that I was in a position to give this incredible woman some security in her latter years.”

Greg Norman says Tiger Woods turned down $700-800M Saudi offer
Tiger Woods turned down an offer that Greg Norman says was "somewhere in that neighborhood” of $700 million to $800 million to take part in the Saudi-funded LIV Golf series.

During an appearance on Fox News with Tucker Carlson that aired Monday night, Norman confirmed what he told the Washington Post in a story two months ago. Norman told the Post in June the offer was “mind-blowingly enormous; we’re talking about high nine digits.”

Woods has been opposed to LIV Golf since late last year, and he delivered his strongest comments at the British Open when he said players who took the money funded by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund had “turned their back” on the PGA Tour that made them famous.

When an offer was made to Woods was not clear.
“That number was out there before I became CEO. So that number has been out there, yes,” Norman said in the Fox News interview, which took place Sunday at Trump National in Bedminster, New Jersey, where the third LIV Golf Invitational was held.

“And, look, Tiger is a needle-mover and of course you have to look at the best of the best,” Norman said. “So they had originally approached Tiger before I became CEO. So, yes, that number was somewhere in that neighborhood.”

Various reports out of the United Kingdom have said Phil Mickelson received a $200 million signing bonus, while Dustin Johnson received $150 million. The 48-man fields, which play 54 holes with no cut, offer $25 million in prize money at each event. Norman announced a 14-tournament schedule for next year.

LIV Golf currently has only one player — Johnson at No. 18 — from the top 20 in the world.

The source of the funding has led to sharp criticism of the series and the players who have enlisted because it is viewed as an attempt to distract attention from its human rights record and links to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Asked why his rival tour has caused such an uproar among American golf fans, Norman responded plainly, “I don’t know.”
“I really don’t care,” Norman said. “I just love the game so much and I want to grow the game of golf and we at LIV see that opportunity not just for the men but for the women.”

The LIV Golf Invitational is off for a month during the FedEx Cup playoffs on the PGA Tour, returning over Labor Day weekend about an hour west of Boston, and then two weeks later plays in the Chicago suburbs.

Charlamagne Tha God Didn’t Like the Way the ‘Wendy Williams Show’ Ended
We know Wendy Williams’ television days are behind her. After The Wendy Williams Show was canceled after 13 seasons amid ongoing battles with her health.
Charlamagne Tha God was hoping for a better ending for his old friend Wendy Williams.

When he was just starting out, the troubled host was already an established radio star and took him on as something of a protégé.

He went on to become one of the most influential figures on the airwaves. But he said he was saddened by the unfortunate end to her TV career earlier this year.
“I didn’t like the way [the “Wendy Williams Show”] ended because I don’t want to see her go out like that,” he said in a new interview with Extra.

“I want to see her go out healthy and on her own terms,” he said, likening Williams’ TV situation to “a basketball player or football player” who’s “one of the greatest of all time, but their career ends in injury.”

Charlamagne spoke to “Extra” ahead of the premiere of his rebooted late night Comedy Central show “Hell of a Week.”
Williams did not appear on the series finale of her beloved and long-running show, and was unable to host the final season due to Graves Disease and ongoing health issues.

Charlamagne said he “wants to see her get healthy, and get back in whatever position she chooses to be in… I want her to go out the way she deserves.”
Charlamagne also dished on his late night boss Stephen Colbert, who is the executive producer of his show. He said Colbert “added significant value” to his life and that he learns from “The Late Show” host “just from kicking it with him” and listening.

“He’s one of the best to ever do it, so if you got one of the best to ever do it in the late night space, executive producing your talk show, you’d be a fool not to just shut up and listen,” he said.
“He’s been around [late night] so much, he knows it all and is not afraid to share that information and it’s worked wonders for me,” he concluded.

Magic Johnson calls for NBA to retire Bill Russell's No. 6 across the league
Tributes have poured in since the death of Bill Russell, whose unparalleled success as an NBA champion was rivaled only by his impact off the court.

Magic Johnson would like to see his legacy formalized league-wide. The Hall of Fame Los Angeles Lakers point guard called for the NBA and commissioner Adam Silver on Tuesday to retire Russell's jersey No. 6 across the league. He made his pitch on Twitter.

The suggested step would immortalize Russell's No. 6 alongside that of No. 42 in MLB, which is retired across baseball to honor Jackie Robinson. Russell's like legacy as an on-court champion and civil rights trailblazer certainly makes him an intriguing candidate for what would be an unprecedented NBA honor. It's a compelling pitch from Magic.

But there's one glaring snag to Johnson's plan, which might not go over so well in Lakers land. In the short term, at least. LeBron James wears No. 6. He made the switch in 2021 after wearing No. 23 for his first three seasons in Los Angeles. It's the same number he wore during his four-year run with the Miami Heat.

Here's how he explained the decision.

“It’s always been a part of me, to be honest,” James said in 2021. “Six has a lot of meaning to me, from my family and numbers and things of that nature to what I believe in and things of that sort, but my mentality doesn’t change."

James has flipped back and forth from No. 23 to No. 6 throughout his career. Would he be on board with returning to No. 23 in the event that Johnson's pitch gains traction while he's still in the league? There's obviously a long way to go before that's a concern.

So far, no word from James — or Silver — regarding Johnson's suggestion.

Kansas voters defeat abortion amendment in unexpected landslide
OVERLAND PARK — Kansas voters in a landslide Tuesday defeated a constitutional amendment that would have stripped residents of abortion rights, defying polling and political observers who expected a close result.

The ballot measure was failing by a 60-40 margin late Tuesday after voters responded to an intense and costly campaign marked by dubious claims by amendment supporters and the unraveling of protections by the U.S. Supreme Court.

The question before voters, in the form of a confusingly worded constitutional amendment, was whether to end the right to abortion in Kansas by voting “yes” or preserve the right by voting “no.”

“You guys, we did it,” said Rachel Sweet, campaign manager for Kansans for Constitutional Freedom, as she addressed a crowd of abortion-rights supporters at a watch party in Overland Park. “We blocked this amendment. Can you believe it?”

The outcome could have far-reaching political implications, with a governor’s race and congressional seats on the ballot in November. It also means reproductive health care will remain available in a state where six girls younger than 14 were among nearly 8,000 patients who received an abortion last year.

“I’ve always maintained that a woman’s reproductive health care decisions should be between her and her physician,” said Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly, in a statement to campaign supporters. “I’m proud to say that Kansans stood up for our fundamental rights today.”

The proposed constitutional amendment is a reaction to a 2019 decision by the Kansas Supreme Court, which struck down a state law banning a common second-term abortion procedure. The court determined that the right to bodily autonomy in the state constitution’s Bill of Rights includes the decision to terminate a pregnancy.

That meant abortion remained legal in Kansas when the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, allowing each state to determine its own rules for reproductive health care. Kansas attracted national attention as the first state to vote on abortion rights in the post-Roe world.

President Joe Biden, in a statement, said the vote makes clear “the majority of Americans agree that women should have access to abortion and should have the right to make their own health care decisions.”

“Congress should listen to the will of the American people and restore the protections of Roe as federal law,” Biden said.

Voters showed up in unforeseen numbers in urban areas of the state, while rural areas underperformed compared with turnout in the presidential race two years ago.

“From the moment lawmakers put this on a primary ballot, we knew this was going to be an uphill battle, but we did not despair,” Sweet said. “We put in the work and these numbers speak for themself.”

Dawn Rattan, who attended the watch party in Overland Park, said the defeat of the amendment shows that reproductive health care is an issue that crosses party lines, “and people everywhere want women to have a choice.” She was moved to tears when the result was announced.
“I was so scared,” Rattan said. “I was so worried that it was going to be really close, and this is just so decisive, it’s not even close. So I’m just happy and I’m not moved to tears often, so I’m kind of embarrassed, but I’m just really happy.”

Passage of the constitutional amendment would have nullified the Kansas Supreme Court ruling and given the Legislature the authority to pass any kind of abortion restriction, without exceptions for rape, incest or a patient’s health. The amendment’s defeat means abortion will continue to be legal — and heavily regulated — in Kansas.

Supporters and opponents of the amendment spent millions of dollars in campaigns to educate and influence voters.

The so-called Value Them Both Coalition refused to say whether it would support a ban on abortion if the amendment passes, routinely denouncing claims that the amendment equated to an abortion ban. But audio obtained by Kansas Reflector revealed that supporters of the abortion amendment already had legislation in mind that would ban abortion from conception until birth, without exceptions.

The Value Them Both Coalition denied Kansas Reflector entry to its election night watch party because the organization doesn’t approve of Reflector news stories.

In a statement, Dannielle Underwood, a spokeswoman for the Value Them Both Coalition, said the outcome of Tuesday’s election is a temporary setback.
“We will be back,” she said.
Mallory Carroll, spokeswoman for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said in a statement that the loss was “a huge disappointment for pro-life Kansans and Americans nationwide.”

“The stakes for the pro-life movement in the upcoming midterm elections could not be higher, and there will be many more factors in play,” Carroll said. “It is critical that pro-life candidates go on offense to expose the extremism of Democrats’ policy goals for nationalized abortion on demand paid for by taxpayers.”

On Monday, Democrats received a text message — eventually connected to former Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Huelskamp of Kansas — that inaccurately told them to vote “yes” to preserve reproductive health rights.

Opponents of the amendment have complained about its misleading language. A line-by-line analysis by the Guardian concluded “the ballot language sows confusion in an effort to push people to vote ‘yes.’ ”

The amendment claims to ban government-funded abortion, which is already banned under state law, and suggests the Legislature “could” provide exceptions in state law for rape, incest or the life of a mother — even though the amendment doesn’t actually require those exceptions.

Annual reporting from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment shows that a typical abortion in Kansas involves a woman of color between the ages of 20 and 30 who lives in Kansas or Missouri and is unmarried, already has at least one child, has never had an abortion before, is less than nine weeks from gestation and uses the drug mifepristone to terminate her pregnancy.

Because of existing restrictions, which remain in place, the patient has received state-ordered counseling designed to discourage her from having an abortion, waited at least 24 hours, looked at an ultrasound image and paid for the procedure out of her own pocket.

KDHE reported no abortions occurred outside of 22 weeks, the legal threshold except in cases where the mother’s life is in danger.

Sweet said the defeat of the abortion amendment was historic for Kansas and America.
“We will not hand over our constitutional rights and our bodily autonomy to the government, and we will take care of each other and look out for each other because that is what Kansas is all about,” Sweet said.

Daunte Wright's passenger sues Minneapolis police officer responsible for his death
The woman who was in the vehicle with Daunte Wright when he was shot and killed by a Minneapolis police officer is suing both the former official who killed him and the city, AP News reports.

Alayna Albrecht-Payton was physically injured following the car crash that occurred after Kim Potter fatally shot Wright.
The 21-year-old says that she has also suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after watching Wright pass away after he was struck by a bullet in the vehicle that they were traveling in on April 11, 2021.

Potter alleged that she mistook her firearm for her taser when she shot and killed Wright during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center. He was only 20 years old.

“Albrecht-Payton was a blameless witness to a horribly traumatic event, which a lot of people heard her testify to in the felony trial,” said her attorney Kathryn Bennett. “And she has suffered some significant and permanent injuries, including the broken jaw and the cuts, and just scared inside and out from this event.”

As previously reported, Potter was convicted of first and second-degree manslaughter for Wright’s death and received a sentence of two years in prison.

Last month, the Brooklyn Center agreed to pay a $3.2 million settlement to the young man’s family. Following Wright’s death, the Brooklyn Center City Council also passed a series of reforms, which includes the use of social workers and other licensed and/or trained professionals to respond to medical, mental health, and social needs calls instead of the police.

In her lawsuit, Albrecht-Payton requests $150,000 in damages. After the shooting, the young woman had to undergo surgery for a broken jaw and currently struggles with the injury and teeth misalignment.

Potter’s attorneys say they “are unable to say much other than we are in the process of reviewing Ms. Albrecht-Payton’s medical records and evaluating our legal defenses.”

'Voice of The Dodgers' Vin Scully Dies at 94
Vin Scully has sadly passed away at the age of 95. The sports announcer, who was best known as the Voice of the Dodgers, died on Tuesday, August 2, the LA Dodgers confirmed on their social channels.

“He was the voice of the Dodgers, and so much more,” the organization shared on Twitter. “He was their conscience, their poet laureate, capturing their beauty and chronicling their glory from Jackie Robinson to Sandy Koufax, Kirk Gibson to Clayton Kershaw. Vin Scully was the heartbeat of the Dodgers — and in so many ways, the heartbeat of all of Los Angeles.”

He is probably best known for his words during the 1988 World Series when Kirk Gibson hit a home run: “High fly ball into right field. She is… gone!”

In addition to being the Voice of the Dodgers, Vin was also known as a national announcer of baseball for NBC, football and golf for CBS and baseball for CBS Radio.

Vin retired in 2016 at the age of 88.
He is survived by four children and two stepchildren as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

JoJo Siwa Clarifies Her Comment About Not Liking The Word ‘Lesbian’
While speaking with Yahoo last month, JoJo Siwa admitted that she doesn’t like the word “lesbian.” She said at the time, “I don’t like the word itself,” the singer said in her video interview. “It’s just like lesbian, it’s just like a lot.” The actress has been receiving backlash over her comment but now she’s speaking out to clarify her remarks.

One user responded to her interview and said, “um in light of a recent Jojo Siwa interview, here’s a quick reminder that lesbian isn’t a bad or dirty word.” Another added, “lesbian is not a dirty word and the stigma needs to be unlearned BADLY.” The former “Dance Moms” star recently took to TikTok to clarify that she doesn’t think it’s a bad word, it’s just not one she prefers to use often:

“I never said that lesbian was a dirty word and I never would say that it’s a dirty word because it is not,” she explained. “It is not a bad word, it is not a slur, and it is especially not a word that I am ashamed of saying or ashamed of identifying as by any means.”

Last year, she confirmed her sexuality and came out as gay on Instagram live. Months after her revelation, she opened up about how she labels her sexuality. She said:

“I still don’t know what I am. It’s like, I want to figure it out,” Jojo who was 17-year-old at the time told People about her inner journey. “Technically I would say that I am pansexual, because that’s how I have always been my whole life is just like, my human is my human,” she said.

What is Pansexual?
According to Merriam-Webster, pansexual means “of, relating to or characterized by sexual or romantic attraction that is not limited to people of a particular gender identity or sexual orientation.”

During her interview with the outlet, she went on to say, “I never wanted [my coming out] to be a big deal,” Siwa said, adding that she did Google herself after doing so and found negative comments that made it so she “couldn’t sleep for three days.” “My thing is,” Siwa continued, “I don’t want people to watch my videos or buy my merchandise if they aren’t going to support not only me, but the LGBTQ community.”
Aside from that, she was ultimately happy with all the supportive comments she did receive:

She previously said that she has “never gotten this much support from the world” and it’s “the first time that I’ve felt so personally happy.

“I am so proud to be me,” Siwa added.

Janet Yang Becomes First Asian Elected as Film Academy President
Hollywood producer Janet Yang has been named the new president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences by the organization’s Board of Governors. Yang, who is of Chinese descent, is the first Asian person ever to hold the position and the fourth woman behind Fay Kanin (1979-1983), Cheryl Boone Isaacs (2013-2017) and Bette Davis (Davis resigned after two months in 1941).

Yang is beginning her first term as president and her second term as a Governor-at-Large. The Board also voted on the officers, electing:

“Janet is a tremendously dedicated and strategic leader who has an incredible record of service at the Academy,” said Bill Kramer, Academy CEO. “I am thrilled that she is taking on the esteemed role of Academy President and look forward to working closely with her on our shared vision to serve our membership, celebrate the collaborative arts and sciences of motion pictures, and inspire the next generation of filmmakers.”

Yang, 66, is an established figure in Hollywood who has worked with filmmakers including Oliver Stone and Kathryn Bigelow. Her previous credits include “The Joy Luck Club” (1993), “The People vs. Larry Flynt” (1996) and the Oscar-nominated “Over the Moon” (2020). A member of the Academy’s Producers Branch since 2002, Yang most recently served on the Board as vice president and chair of the Membership Committee and, before that, the Membership and Governance Committee. She is also co-chair of the Academy’s Asian Affinity Group.

One governor described her to Variety as “a very smart and seasoned professional” back in July.

Per the Academy bylaws, presidents are elected for one-year terms and cannot be elected for more than four consecutive terms. Yang follows past presidents including well-known figures such as Frank Pierson, Karl Malden and Gregory Peck.

‘Batgirl’ and ‘Scoob!: Holiday Haunt’ Scrapped at Warner Bros. Amid Cost-Savings Push
In a surprising development, Warner Bros. will no longer be releasing Batgirl, the DC film that already completed shooting and was expected to arrive on HBO Max this year. The unusual move comes after a change in leadership at Warners, with newly installed Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav prioritizing cost-cutting measures and refocusing Warners on creating theatrical films rather than projects for streaming, as had been a priority for former WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar.

Batgirl was budgeted at around $80 million, with costs rising to nearly $90 million due to COVID-19 protocols. It’s a hefty sum, but significantly lower than DC theatrical releases, thus the film is said not to have the spectacle that audiences have come to expect from DC fare. (The Batman, released in March, had a budget of $185 million, before marketing costs.) Warners has also decided to shelve animated feature Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, which had a budget in the $40 million range.

Batgirl stars In the Heights breakout Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl — the first Latina to play the role — and hails from Bad Boys for Life filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Its cast also includes Michael Keaton, back as Batman, J.K. Simmons as Barbara’s father, Commissioner James Gordon, and Brendan Fraser as the villain Firefly. The New York Post first reported Batgirl would be scrapped.

“The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max,” said a Warner Bros. spokesperson in a statement. “Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future.”

Insiders say that big-budget films made directly for streaming no longer make financial sense under the company’s new strategy. In June, Zaslav tapped MGM’s Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy to run Warners, replacing Toby Emmerich.

Warner Bros. Discovery leadership had been looking to find $3 billion in cost savings after the merger of WarnerMedia and Discovery closed in April. Major cuts along the way for the conglomerate have included streaming service CNN+, which cost $300 million before the plug was pulled a month after launch, and J.J. Abrams’ pricey HBO original Demimonde, which aimed to have a $200 million-plus budget.

Meanwhile, HBO Max has pared down its programming focus area for originals, cutting The Gordita Chronicles after a single season as part of a strategy shift away from live-action kids and family programming. Linear networks under the Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella like TNT and TBS have also had originals cut in recent months.

Under Kilar, Warners shattered the theatrical window, sending its 2021 slate day-and-date to HBO Max in a one-year experiment. Now, Zaslav appears to be engineering a total about-face in emphasizing the importance of theatrical over streaming in terms of original movies.

Batgirl has traveled a winding road up to this point. Joss Whedon initially signed on to write and direct in 2017, then dropped out a year later. Batgirl’s directors, who work under the name Adil & Bilall, boarded in 2021 as they were hot off of revitalizing the Bad Boys franchise.

In January of this year, Grace shared the first-look photo of herself in costume, along with a quote from the comic book Batgirl: Year One: “I use their expectations against them. That will be their weakness. Not mine. Let them all underestimate me… And when their guard is down, and their pride is rising, let me kick their butts.”

Chris Brown Defends Taking Risqué Photos With Female Fans At Meet-And-Greets And Says He's Not Like Other 'Lame' Artists 'That Won't Make Eye Contact' With Fans
Photos of Chris Brown posing with his female fans at meet-and-greets have gone viral.
The singer defended the pictures in a post on his Instagram Story, saying he does it for his fans.
Brown said he has the "coolest fans on the planet" and wanted to create lasting memories with them.
Chris Brown defended risqué photos he has taken with female fans at meet-and-greets on his recent tour.

On Monday, multiple photos of Brown's meet-and-greets from his current "One of Them Ones" tour with Lil Baby went viral on Twitter, with many fans pointing out the unconventional and suggestive poses in the pictures.

Brown quickly took to Instagram to defend the photos, saying that he has the "coolest fans on the planet."

"PSA!!! When artist (everyone) do concerts, they all have something called a VIP package," he wrote in an Instagram Story. "I haven't done meet and greets in over 7 years..."

Brown continued: "I have the coolest fans on the planet... I appreciate the fuck outta them. These are memories that will last with them forever. Unlike most of the lame ass artist that won't make eye contact with the people who made it possible to even have a career. I only exist because these fans saw something in me I never thought was possible... So Ima go all out for my fans!!!"

Some fans thought that Brown had gone too far with the photos.

However, many acknowledged that the fans were getting their money's worth for the VIP packages, which cost up to $3,500, according to CapitalXtra.
Shane Martin, a Connecticut-based music marketing expert who operates meet-and-greets at concerts, also shared an Instagram post last week praising Brown's interaction with his fans at his concert at the Xfinity Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut, recently.

"I've operated hundreds and hundreds of meet & greets over the years and never have I ever seen an artist interact with the fans the way Chris Brown did," Martin wrote.

"Usually artists pose for the pic, maybe shake a hand or two and then say next, making the experience last about 20-30 seconds. But Chris Brown shook everyone's hand, gave multiple hugs, signed multiple things, and took lots of very entertaining pictures with each person! He actually stood there and talked to each fan for 3-4 minutes."

Donald and Stephen Glover on Criticism From Black Community That ‘Atlanta’ Is ‘Only for White People’
With the fourth and final season of Atlanta set to premiere on Sept. 15, Donald and Stephen Glover appeared at the show’s TCA Press Tour on Tuesday, where the pair discussed the criticism from people in the Black community who believe the FX series is “only for white people.”

“To be real, if you’re online, everybody’s gonna have an agenda on some level,” Donald said, per Deadline. “It would be silly to say that sometimes what people say doesn’t affect you because — especially being Black — I feel like a lot of the Black criticism bothers me only because it sounds like [it’s from] Black people who don’t really know what we’ve been through. So to be like, ‘Oh, these Black people hate Black people or these Black people hate Black women.’— I’m like, It’s such, my it’s such a small view of who we are. I feel like it might even be because of what we’ve been through that you look at us the way you look at us.”
Glover went on to say that Black critics who claim the show isn’t for them are merely “cutting ourselves down.”

“To say it’s only for white people, it’s like we’re cutting ourselves down which is kind of wack to me,” Donald shared. “I’ve seen on Tiktok where people say Atlanta‘s transphobic. Man, I’m neighbors with a trans man and he told me Atlanta is his favorite show. I love how you guys talked about the trans thing because a lot of this shit is just takes for the internet, you know?”

Donald’s younger brother Stephen admitted that the criticism “rubs me the wrong way,” while reminding reporters that the majority of the culture does in fact love the show.

“For me, one thing that I don’t like is when people say the show isn’t for Black people because I think it very much is for Black people,” Stephen explained. “That kind of thing rubs me the wrong way. But I will also say being in Atlanta and walking around, or even like in LA, I run into Black people all the time who tell me this is their favorite show and how they appreciate everything we do. They also say we’re making them want to do cooler and weirder stuff.”

On Tuesday, FX released a new trailer for the series’ final season, which confirmed that Atlanta will return to its home turf, as Season 3 saw Earn (Glover), Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (LaKeith Stanfield), and Van (Zazie Beetz) embark on a European tour.

Kanye Blasts Adidas For Doing Yeezy Day Without His Approval
Today, August 2, is Yeezy Day at Adidas. Fans of the popular sneaker brand will get another shot at copping some of their favorite Yeezy styles from the last few years. Even though this aligns with West’s vision of making egalitarian clothing and for everybody that wants a pair of Yeezys to get a pair, Kanye basted Adidas for having Yeezy day without his permission.

In an DM to IG user @ChaseSeesGhosts, Ye claimed that Adidas came up with the Yeezy Day idea without his approval, and chose the shoes, picked the colors, named the shoes and stole his other style ideas. Along with going forward with Yeezy Day without Ye’s approval, Kanye also accused Adidas of other shady business practices.

“Adidas made up the Yeezy day idea without my approval then went and brought back older styles without my approval picked color and named them without my approval,” West wrote. “Went and hired people that worked for me without my approval stole my colorways without my approval went and hired a gm of Yeezy without my approval took talent on the production side and sprinkled them throughout adidas originals without my approval.”
Kanye was not finished there. He then accused Adidas of slowing down production on shoes for his Yeezy Gap x Balenciaga collection and lying to Kanye about not being able to manufacture more Yeezy slides but turned around and produced the Adidas slide, which Kanye has come out against, saying that it resembles a Yeezy slide.

“Even though they did a Balenciaga collaboration they completely slowed down production on the shoes me and Demna developed for Gap by trying to bully Gap even though my contract states I can do casual shoes which I was doing when I did fashion shows. When I originally ordered adidas to make more Yeezy slides the GM lied to my face and said they didn’t have the capacity meanwhile adidas was copying my slides and making their own versions of the Yeezy slide,” West said.

Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray Signs Five-Year, $230m Contract Extension
*Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray’s recently signed a five-year, $230.5 million contract extension that requires him to study film during the season.
The contract clause is labeled “independent study addendum,” as reported by ESPN.

According to the contract, Murray, 24, will need to study “material provided to him by the Club in order to prepare for the Club’s next upcoming game” for four hours per week. He will receive “credit” for completing his film study, according to the contract.

Murray’s lucrative contract now makes him the highest-paid Black quarterback and the 2nd highest-paid QB in the league. Per  ESPN, the deal includes “$105 million guaranteed at signing and $160 million guaranteed for injury,” the outlet writes.

Kyler took to Instagram to react to the contract, writing: “Excitin’ times. I can’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratefulness and humility. The reality is that I am 5’10 with a non traditional playstyle. I am the first black and asian (🇰🇷) quarterback in the NFL. I look and play like no one before me and with that comes some hate and negativity. I refuse to internalize or acknowledge that negativity.”

His statement continued, “How immature would I be to lean into the toxicity when I am overwhelmed with an abundance of love and support from the best fans in the world. I’m in the business of proving the people that believe in me right and inspiring the next generation of youth culture.”

He concluded with, “I’m just a kid from Texas living out my dream, thank you God.”

As noted by The YBF, Kyler is the second highest-paid NFL quarterback behind Geen Bay Packers QB Aaron Rogers. If Russell Wilson receives a five-year, $250 million contract from the Denver Broncos, he will once again be the highest-paid Black QB and the second-highest-paid behind Aaron Rogers.

Megan Thee Stallion and Big Sean Catch Lawsuit Over ‘Go Crazy’
*Two men are reportedly suing Megan Thee Stallion and Big Sean for allegedly ripping off their song, “Krazy,” which they claim sounds “strikingly similar” to Meg’s “Go Crazy,” lifted off her 2020 debut album, “Good News.”
Per Radar Online, Harrell James and Duawn Payne, who are based in Detroit, believe that the Hot Girl Coach and her collaborator were heavily inspired by their track, which they dropped back in 2012.

In court documents obtained by the publication, the duo claims that their single gained a lot of attention after putting the song out on streaming services, adding that “Krazy” was first released on ReverbNation, which connects independent artists with producers, musicians, and venues to collaborate and communicate.

According to the pair, they think Big Sean, who is also a Detroit native, would have likely come across their song given the song’s popularity, though they don’t actually lay out any specifics as to why they believe the “Bounce Back” rapper had even heard the track.

Harrell and Duawn further added that they heavily promoted “Krazy” by selling thousands of CDs in parking lots of hip hop clubs all around West Detroit, which provided “further access of the Copyrighted Work to Defendants,” the lawsuit asserts.

Wait. There’s more … Payne and James point out that Big Sean is from Detroit and had access to their work, according to RadarOnline.
“The sale of thousands of physical copies of CD’s featuring the Copyrighted Work on the streets of West Detroit and the parking lots of hip hop clubs in West Detroit frequented by [Big Sean] provide further access of the Copyrighted Work to Defendants,” the suit read.

The suit said Meg and Big Sean’s song was a huge hit. “Upon release, the Infringing Work sold reportedly 100,500 units for the first week of its release. Since the debut, the Infringing Work has reportedly gone platinum, meaning more than one million copies have been sold,” the songwriters explained in their suit.

Candy Company Hiring New WFH Position That’s Paying Taste Tester $78,000 a Year to Eat Candy All Day
A Canadian candy company is offering someone a handsome salary to taste candy all day.
Online treat retailer, Candy Funhouse, is looking to fill an open vacancy for their Chief Candy Officer position. The role pays 100,000 Canadian dollars, which is USD 78,000 yearly. The job includes several key duties, but the head taste tester is the most important.

What makes the job even sweeter is that it is work-from-home, even though the company is based out of Toronto. This gives the lucky employee the luxury of sitting home eating candy all day.

The position was posted on LinkedIn in July and has attracted thousands of applicants. Many employment seekers got creative with their pitch for the gig, recruiting family members for videos detailing how they’d share the tasting responsibilities. Chief Executive Officer Jamil Hejazi says the opportunity is sure to bring joy to whoever is chosen.

“Imagine your best memories around candy and having that every day at work,” Hejazi stated.
Candy Funhouse offers a wide range of snacks, including those that are not easy to find in stores, such as Blueberry Muffin Kit-Kats and Chubby Rock N’ Rolla Cola Soda. They also offer bulk treats for large events.

The company is not discriminating when it comes to age. Applicants as young as five-years-old are allowed to apply, though parental permission is required. Many parents have submitted videos of their children pitching themselves as the best candidates for the position.

Several social media reports claim that the person who is hired will have to eat 3,500 pieces of candy a month. However, Hejazi has refuted this.

The application will remain open until August 31st. Anyone interested may apply at: https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/3177227708

Georgia Residents Now Allowed to Claim Embryos As Dependents On Their State Taxes
Georgia residents are now allowed to claim their unborn babies as dependents on their state taxes.
On Monday, the Georgia Department of Revenue made the announcement. Any embryo with a heartbeat is eligible for the Georgia individual income tax dependent exemption.

As with several other deductions claimed on an income tax return, the department reserves the right to request relevant medical documents or other supporting paperwork to prove the pregnancy. Eligible expectant parents will receive $3,000 per unborn child. Taxpayers expecting a baby on or after July 20th through December 31st, 2022, can claim their embryos.

According to the department, the new tax policy results from the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and the Court of Appeals’ verdict approving Georgia’s so-called “heartbeat” law. This legislature enacted in 2019 prohibits most abortions when there is a “detectable human heartbeat.” This usually occurs as early as six weeks before many women learn of their pregnancy. The tax law allows expecting parents to claim an embryo at any stage as long as the heartbeat is detected by a physician.

The state will issue further guidance later this year. This new tax legislation won’t impact the federal returns of the filer.
