GLAMOUR’s second ever Hair Issue is here – and who better to grace our cover than Saweetie, with her love for everything from braids, blonde buzz cuts and a bucket full of wigs? The Grammy-nominated rapper (and our Best Friend) speaks to Olive Pometsey.
Saweetie arrives for our interview over Zoom with a technicolour bang, clutching an iced coffee and wearing bubblegum pink latex gloves, her look sits somewhere between courtroom Elle Woods and a Coachella-ready Bratz doll. A sharp, tailored pink cape says she’s ready for business, while a bedazzled blue butterfly halter top sits underneath, poised for any last-minute afterparties. And then there’s the wig – oh, the wig. Cascading down the 28-year-old rapper’s back in streaks of yellow, pink and everything in between, not a hair is out of place as she sits down in front of the camera to be interviewed. It’s an appropriately show-stopping look for the cover star of GLAMOUR’s second annual Hair Issue. “Hair is important to me because it’s a form of expression,” she says, matter-of-factly. Amen.
You’d expect nothing less from the woman whose debut platinum-certified 2018 single Icy Grl introduced her to the world as an unapologetically ambitious, fabulously put-together force to be reckoned with. And with a real name like Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, sparkling is practically Saweetie’s birthright. But still, watching the iced-out star in action is something to behold.
Glam this good takes dedication and patience. When I first meet Saweetie over Zoom, at the end of a long day of shooting the GLAMOUR cover, her head-to-toe drip is already perfected. But those on site at the shoot in downtown Los Angeles got to witness a meticulous, six-hour beauty transformation. Yes, six hours. I’m later told that, after turning up in a casual grey hoodie, sunglasses and a request: ‘Madonna must be played on the shoot’ – Saweetie made herself comfortable for what was almost a full working day just in the hair and makeup chair. And what a transformation. Not a single detail was overlooked. Her nails, for instance, are painstakingly detailed mini works of art in themselves – look closely and you’ll even spot a spinning pink love heart on one.
Despite the lengthy glam process, Saweetie’s mood never falters. The rapper is, as her name would suggest, incredibly sweet, softly greeting and complimenting everyone in the room – even those who are there virtually, like myself. “Are you in London?” she asks, squinting at the laptop that’s beaming me via Zoom into the LA studio. Saweetie just scored her first correct guess of our conversation and now she’s asking for more specifics. “East London? Isn’t that where Top Boy is filmed?” Ding ding! Correct again. She flicks her acid rainbow hair behind her shoulders as I tell her that, yes, the Netflix show is indeed set and filmed nearby. A proud smile curls up one side of her face as she raises a single eyebrow and nods knowingly, an expression that silently says, “I know that’s right!”
It’s a busy week for the hit-making rapper. Five days before we meet, she attended the Oscars and, on the Sunday after our shoot, she’ll hit the red carpet at the Grammys – changing from a custom fuchsia Valentino two-piece into a stunning Oscar de la Renta number – where she’s nominated for two awards: Best New Artist and Best Rap Song for her Doja Cat collab Best Friend, a girl’s girl anthem that went double platinum in the US last summer. When the night finally arrives, Saweetie doesn’t take home the awards, but being nominated is enough – for now, at least. “The Grammys is one of the biggest award shows in the world, so the fact that I’m nominated twice without an album out, I think it just speaks volumes to where my career is headed,” she says, reflecting on the achievement days before the results are announced. “I’m really grateful and thankful to my fans, family and the Grammys for that recognition.”.
The Grammys nod is just the latest in a long list of achievements that Saweetie’s ticked off her take-over-the-world to-do list since bursting onto the scene in 2017. First came her debut viral hit wonder, Icy Grl, which was soon followed by her debut EP, 2018’s High Maintenance. The next year, she pushed her sound to new heights with the boisterous, club-ready track My Type. More bangers dropped thick and fast including the Grammy-nominated Doja Cat collaboration Best Friend and the Insecure-soundtrack Get It Girl. Most recently, the rapper gave us the latest taste of what to expect from her hotly-anticipated debut album, Pretty Bitch Music, a link-up with H.E.R. for her latest hit, the sultry disco floor-filler Closer. “For Closer, I really just wanted something fun, something that was carefree,” says Saweetie of her latest megawatt collaboration. “The world has been locked up for a long time, so as soon as we [got] outside, [people are] having a good time, partying with their homegirls, their boyfriend or girlfriend, whoever they may be with. And I feel like that’s the spirit of that song.”
The music video for Closer takes that energy and runs with it as Saweetie and H.E.R. helm a diamanté-encrusted cockpit on an ‘Icy Airlines’ jet, taking a flight full of “besties” around the world while she scoops a man in each country. And naturally, each pitstop calls for a new look, with Saweetie sporting a grand total of four wigs – a flicked-out blonde bob, a bum-sweeping silky brunette do, a rich plum unit with a fringe, and a platinum pony – throughout the three and half minute video. Wig wardrobe versatility like that deserves celebrating. Is there any wonder why we chose Saweetie to cover our Hair Issue?
“WITH EVERY WIG I DEFINITELY FEEL LIKE A DIFFERENT GIRL.”
“I honestly have a whole bucket of wigs. I don’t throw away my wigs, so I just have a big old pile at my house in a bucket,” she laughs. “I need to go through it…” The only thing that rivals Saweetie’s collection of wigs is her collection of Hermes Birkin handbags, which hardcore Icy Gang members will know are among her prized possessions – they even have their own Instagram account, @birkinbagbratz. “I don’t know what I have more of. Maybe it’s the same,” wonders Saweetie, attempting to tally up the numbers in her head. And just like her ever-growing stock of the iconic Hermès bags, the rapper’s wigs come in every colour: slime green, icy blue, cherry red, you name it. “It makes me feel like I’m playing a role or something,” she says. “With every wig I definitely feel like a different girl.”
And not only do her various wigs and hair looks bring out Saweetie’s alter egos; they make others treat her differently, too. “I feel like different hairstyles attract different groups of people, different types of energies,” she says. “I definitely see a difference when I’m wearing long, long straight hair to when I wear curly hair. Braids are definitely a different energy… I don’t know, maybe it’s the energy I give off.”
Saweetie has had a fearless approach to hair since childhood, when she and her friends would style each other’s locks. “I could do hair, they could do hair. We would take turns doing each other’s hair before we would go to the playground,” she says, looking back fondly. For a young Diamonté, it was the endless possibilities for experimentation through hair that got her creative juices flowing. “Baby hairs, the bows, the knockers – anything that would make my hair vibrant, I loved it.”

Despite Hampton finally becoming full-time in season 14 after 10 years on the show, Moore doesn’t feel the peach is deserved. In fact, Moore thinks Hampton is a copycat of previous housewives.

Hampton and Moore’s fallout will play throughout the current season but it appears it began when Hampton felt Moore was too critical of her business launch event for her fashion showroom, Le’ Archive. During a recent appearance on The Wendy Williams Show, Moore spoke about why she feels Hampton opted to become her nemesis this season.
For starters, she says she misses some of the OGs of the franchise because they were their authentic selves. “I definitely miss Porsha in general. What she brought to the show was different. What NeNe [Leakes] brought to the show was different and it’s unique, you can’t duplicate that,” she said.
Hampton on the other hand is not being herself and is instead trying to copy what’s been done before, at least according to Moore. “I think the problem with some of the girls this year, well I can just say one, like Marlo,” she explained. “You know, it’s trying to be like a NeNe, and you’ll never fill those shoes, so just stay in your lane. Or, you know, behind your bars.”

Hampton has been on the show since Season 4 as a friend. Her relationship with Moore has been a rollercoaster but ahead of filming Season 14, it appeared they made peace. Clearly, it didn’t last long.
According to Hampton, Moore displayed behavior that made her feel like she was not happy about her being on the show in a full-time capacity. The Jasmine Brand reports that she said in one social media video: “Kenya, dagger to the heart. I’m here b*tch, move over, Moore! Make room diva! I feel that Kandi is happy but I feel that it was a shocker. I feel that Shereé is super excited about me having a peach.”
#MusicNews: The ICON Chaka Khan Signs With SRG/ILS Group Ahead of New Music This Summer
Chaka Khan, the iconic artist behind such classics as “I’m Every Woman,” “Tell Me Something Good” and “I Feel for You,” has signed a recording agreement with The SRG/ILS Group. The 10-time Grammy Award winner’s first project under the deal is slated for arrival this summer.
In announcing the signing, SRG/ILS Group founder/CEO Claude Villani stated, “Chaka Khan is a beacon of light in our industry. Her spirit and her vocals soar. It is a pleasure working with her on this next chapter. We’ve got a hot record here.”
Added Khan, “I’m very proud to be with SRG/ILS, a company that’s run by a real musician who understands that the needs of artists have been overlooked for years.”
Khan’s forthcoming project will be her first new music since 2019’s Hello Happiness, which yielded the singles “Like Sugar” and the title track. The singer-songwriter’s powerful vocals first garnered attention when she fronted R&B/funk band Rufus, which scored its first top five single on the Billboard Hot 100 with 1974’s “Tell Me Something Good.”
A string of popular singles — among them “You Got the Love,” “Sweet Thing” and “Hollywood” — plus six RIAA-certified gold and platinum albums followed before Khan embarked on a solo career in 1978. While he was only 24 when he died, he left behind a legacy that will live on forever. “You realize the impact that he made on the world in such a short time,” JAY-Z said. “Some people live twice as long and won’t accomplish and won’t touch the world in a way that someone like Big did. If anyone can touch the world the way he has, you’ll have a blessed life regardless of the time.”
Hov also reflected on their friendship, which went beyond music. “He was just an incredible lyricist, but even better human being, was super funny. All we did was laugh,” he said. “We talked about serious things in between but everything was based around when we were getting our next laugh. We would work and get that out the way so we could just hang out.”
In 1995-1996, Biggie told JAY-Z that he wanted them to buy two houses next to each other in Atlanta, but JAY-Z couldn’t understand why at the time. “I’m looking like, Atlanta? I’m like, we’re the hottest guys in New York City, like in the world. Why we going to Atlanta?” he recalled. “You think about how influential Atlanta is today, you see how much of a visionary this guy was.”
Diddy, who signed a young Christopher Wallace to Bad Boy in 1993, was asked how he took Biggie from “ashy to classy.” “Man, it wasn’t that hard,” he said. “He always wanted to really be fly. He had some sensibility and it really came from the Brooklyn style at that time.”
B.I.G. loved to dress in designer clothing, and they were able to find tailors to make fits for his large frame. “He always had the problem where it wasn’t in his size,” said Puff. “Shout to 5001 [Flavors] and all the other tailors that we was able to find that we was able to really, really get him real drippy. He was basically like, ‘I wanna dress like a skinny ni**a, I wanna dress like you.'”
“He was fly on his own so it was a great time in fashion,” he added. “Fashion was a big part of his shit, the way he looked.”
In addition to his style, his confidence was on display in his flow. Diddy brought him records like “Mo Money Mo Problems” and Big was able to adapt. “He could only make music that was coming from his heart,” said Puff. “I knew I could give him the shiniest record that would make people feel good and he’d be able to still bring it where it was relatable to the people we were making our music for, which is people in the hood.”
Added Diddy, “That’s a beautiful example of his song arrangement, of his artistry, and also that other side of him too. He could flow at that frequency because he was a cat that really wanted to have fun all the time.”
Tonight, the Empire State Building will be lit up red and white in celebration of Biggie’s birthday. The MTA is also releasing special edition Biggie MetroCards, which will be available at subway stations near his old Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.
Rihanna And A$AP Rocky Are Reportedly Moving To Barbados To Raise Their Newborn Baby
Rihanna and A$ap Rocky welcomed their baby boy to the world earlier this week, and though they’re currently residing in Los Angeles, a new report claims the doting couple is planning to call Barbados their home in the forthcoming months. According to The Mirror, the What Now singer wants to spend the next three months in sunny California before moving back to the Caribbean, where she spent a significant amount of time during her pregnancy with her newborn.
“Rihanna loves Barbados and she loved growing up there,” a source explained, asserting that Rih-Rih wants her baby to have a normal upbringing around family and friends and away from the limelight. “She wants to give her baby the same experience she had – away from the world of showbusiness. Both her and ASAP’s family are in Barbados, so the couple are planning to move there in a few months’ time.” The publication further claims that Rihanna has already sought out elementary schools she would want her little toddler to attend in a few years’ time.
The 34-year-old announced her pregnancy back in January in a series of photos that saw her strolling through the streets of New York in a pair of denim jeans and an oversized pink jacket, with her growing baby bump peeking through. Earlier this month, Rihanna and her beau sent fans into a frenzy following the release of A$ap’s music video for his song D.M.B, which features a wedding scene in which he proposes to the Bajan beauty.
He’s seen wearing a pair of grills which read, “Marry Me?” The camera then cuts to Rihanna, who smiles back with her own “I Do” grills, leading many fans to believe the pair had quietly tied the knot and that the music video scene was their way of confirming the news publicly. However, sources told TMZ that there was absolutely no truth to the speculation on social media — the pair are not married, nor has A$ap proposed to Rihanna… at least not yet.
“Sources close to the couple tell TMZ the two aren’t engaged. Our sources say the whole thing was just done for fun,” the publication wrote.
In April, following a return trip from Barbados to Los Angeles, A$ap was arrested and taken into custody upon his arrival at the LAX airport in connection with an alleged shooting in 2021. The move comes as Wendy Williams battles it out with Wells Fargo, who previously froze all her assets against her will. The accounts, which reportedly contain millions of dollars, were locked in January. Reportedly, the bank froze the accounts due to suspicion that the talk show host is suffering from
“financial exploitation, dementia or undue influence.”
While Wendy Williams does not agree, the court-appointed guardian means the battle with Wells Fargo to unfreeze her bank accounts is officially complete. The financial guardian, along with Williams and the courts, will now be in charge of determining how she will access her funds.
An insider previously shared,“The guardianship process is complete, which means the court appointed a financial guardian. Now it’s up to the guardian, Wendy and the court as to how she will be accessing her money.”
But according to her Williams‘ attorney La’Shawn Thomas,
“Please be advised that Wendy is not in agreement with the appointment of a financial guardian by the court. Wendy has been very clear that she does not want a financial guardian to tell her what she can and cannot do with her money.”
Williams believes she is capable of recruiting her own team to work for her instead of the court, he added. While it’s unknown at this time how much money Williams has in the bank, in a previous interview with rapper Fat Joe, she shared that she only had $2 to her name. During an Instagram Live conversation, she said,
“I know what kind of money I have. Unfortunately, I only have $2 and nothing else. Everything is frozen and some people are involved with this and so that’s what I’m doing right now.”
As previously reported, Williams has been out of work for months due to a number of health issues, but she appears to be on the mend. She is reportedly no longer reliant on a wheelchair and is now hoping to return to work.
The Wendy Williams Show will also end after the current season. Williams hasn’t hosted the program since July 2021 due to health issues, including Graves disease and the coronavirus, being temporarily replaced by guest hosts.
Sherri Shepherd, a former co-host on The View, will take Williams‘ place in the fall with a show named “Sherri.” Sherri Shepherd has expressed hope that Williams will appear on the show.

Amid speculation, Pete Davidson has confirmed that he’s leaving ‘Saturday Night Live’ after 8 seasons.
via JJ: Pete took SNL writer Dave Sirus‘ Instagram to share a video of comedian Jerrod Carmichael giving him a big hug after he made his debut on the show back in 2014.
“This video was taken 8 years ago. Jerrod sent it to me last night and it made me super emotional in the best way,” Pete wrote. “In the video I had just gotten back from doing my very first update and sketch. It’s crazy to think that today I’ll be doing my last one. When I got the show I was 20 years old and I had no idea what I was doing. I still don’t but especially back then.”
“I wasn’t really a sketch performer I was just a stand up. I knew I could never keep up or go toe to toe with a Kenan Thompson or a Kate McKinnon so I was super scared at figuring out what I could possibly bring to or do for such a historic, respected show and platform,” Pete continued. “I figured since I’m a stand up I’ll just try my stand up and personal bits on Weekend Update as myself and I’m so glad I did. I got to share so much with this audience and literally grow up in front of your eyes. We were together through the good and the bad, the happiest and the darkest of times.”
Pete concluded his message by thanking SNL creator Lorne Michaels and everyone he’s worked with at the show.

Snooki, J-Woww and more OG 'Jersey Shore' stars slam MTV reboot: 'We gave our all'
The original stars of Jersey Shore are not happy about MTV's planned reboot. Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, DJ Pauly D, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, Jenni "JWoww" Farley, Vinny Guadagnino, Deena Cortese and Angelina Pivarnick spoke out against Jersey Shore 2.0 shortly after the network's announcement this week. The group launched to fame in 2009 after the reality series debuted.
"As a cast that took a chance with a network in need, we put our most vulnerable moments on television for the world to see," the statement begins. "We gave our all over the past 13 years, became a family and continue to open our lives to the world," the statement continued. "So please understand that we are not in support of a version that will exploit our original show, our hard work and authenticity to gain viewers."
The group ended by telling fans to tune into Jersey Shore Family Vacation, the spinoff launched in 2018. It just got picked up for another season. Jersey Shore ended in 2012 after six seasons.
Sorrentino had a bit more to say on the matter.
MTV announced its plans for a reboot on Wednesday.
"It's been 13 years since the iconic cast of Jersey Shore fist-pumped their way into our lives and stole our hearts," a press release said. "Now, the time-honored tradition continues with a new group of roommates moving into their own Shore house. They may have traded their poofs for plumped pouts and UV rays for spray tans, but when things heat up in Jersey, the Shore is still the place to be to make memories all summer long.".
Doja Cat says she has to cancel upcoming shows due to health issues caused by vaping
On Friday, the "Say So" singer, 26, took to Twitter to share that she had to undergo "routine" surgery on her tonsils, which would force her to stop touring while she recovers from the procedure.
"Hi guys. I wanted you to hear it from me first. Unfortunately I have to have surgery on my tonsils asap. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling. That means I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour," the singer wrote. "I feel horrible about this but can't wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an appearance for y'all."
Doja Cat, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, released the statement just a day after she sent out a flurry of tweets describing her throat issues in graphic detail. On Thursday evening, she spoke candidly about her addiction to vaping, and the problems it was causing for her throat and tonsils.
“Dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil. i had an abscess in it. my whole throat is f***ed so i might have some bad news for yall coming soon,” she tweeted, alluding to her future cancellation of performances at Lollapalooza and beyond
She continued, claiming that the reason her tonsils became infected is because she drank wine and vaped while on antibiotics.
"I started getting a nasty ass growth on my tonsil so they had to do surgery on it today," she explained. She shared that the doctor "poked up in [there] with a needle twice and then sucked all the juice out and then he took a sharp thing and cut it in two places and squoze all the goop out in dere. i cried and it hurt a lot but im ok."
When Twitter users replied regarding the artist's rampant vape use — including how she recently took a hit from her vape before she took the stage to accept her Billboard Music Award earlier this month — she revealed that she intends to stop.
"I'm quitting the vape for a while and hopefully i dont crave it anymore after that," Doja Cat said. Later, she added that she's "too scared to hit it cuz my throat hurts so bad. i cried for hours. its not worth it."
She continued, explaining her struggle to conquer her dependence on the vape.
"I'm addicted but I'm not weak. I was literally staring at my vape today that normally i'd hit a thousand times a day and hit it two times instead. I'ma try to go cold turkey for now but hopefully my brain doesn't need it at all by then," she wrote. When people criticized her hesitation to quit immediately, she explained "that doesn't help anybody and it just sounds condescending to anybody who's actually struggling w nicotine addiction."
Despite fielding criticism from her followers, Doja Cat did speak openly about how much it meant to her that people care.

Jif Peanut Butter Recalled After Several Cases Of Salmonella Are Reported
After several cases of salmonella were recently reported, the makers of Jif Peanut Butter, J.M. Smucker Co., have recalled several products sold in the U.S. Of the products recalled were Jif’s many types and sizes of peanut butter, including creamy, crunchy, natural, and reduced fat.
In cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), J.M. Smucker Co., whose facility is based in Lexington, Kentucky, has recalled several loads of peanut butter distributed nationwide in retail stores and other outlets from their Lexington, KY location.
The lot codes range from 1274425 – 2140425. The codes are included alongside the “best-if-used-by” date on each product. (See full list below)
The peanut butter maker’s company warns that if consumers have products matching any of the codes they’ve made public, they should dispose of the products immediately.

Families Of The Buffalo “Hate Crime” Mass Shooting Suing For Victims
The families of the victims of the Buffalo, New York “Hate Crime” mass shooting are suing. Thirteen people were shot and ten killed when a gunman opened fire at the Tops grocery store in Kingsley, an eastern neighborhood of Buffalo.
The Buffalo Police Commissioner says there is no mistake Saturday’s deadly mass shooting is a “vicious hate crime.”
Authorities say an 18-year-old white suspect identified as Payton Gendron is charged with first-degree murder. Most of the victims in Saturday’s mass shooting were Black.
Buffalo Police made a point to praise the heroism of former Buffalo officer and supermarket security guard Aaron Salter Jr. who died in the attack.
Police say Gendron, a self-avowed white supremacist opened fire at a supermarket in a predominantly Black neighborhood. Buffalo Police Chief Joseph Gramaglia said investigators are looking at the online history of the suspect.
NBC News reports a manifesto allegedly written by Gendron was posted on Google Docs Thursday night. The document allegedly lays out plans to attack Black people, and promotes conspiracy theory claims that white people are being replaced by minorities in the U.S.
Former Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield, whose mother was killed Saturday, said he’s joining the lawsuit.
Whitfield said it’s time for all the hate to stop. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump said he’s targeting the “websites and cable news outlets” he claims spread hate and radicalized the shooter. The shooter livestreamed the attack on Twitch.
Ohio high school students face disciplinary action for placing racist signs above water fountains
A “Blacks only” sign was placed above several water fountains at the Northwest Local School District.
Segregation is over, yet a group of Ohio high school students thought it would be funny to take a trip back to the past by placing “Blacks only” signs above water fountains. The photos of the act were posted to social media, Cleveland.com reports.
According to administrators at Colerain High School, located just outside of Cincinnati, the students left the signs up for roughly 30 seconds before taking them down. An investigation of the incident is officially underway.
“Those who participated in this tasteless and hurtful act have been issued significant disciplinary actions,” said school officials in a statement. “This type of behavior is not and will not be condoned or tolerated. The actions that were displayed do NOT reflect the values and the culture we’ve worked so hard to cultivate in all of our schools across the district.”
According to a U.S. News and World report, 30% of the school’s population of 1,730 students consists of Black children and around 49% of the students are white.
While the Northwest Local School District did not say how many students were met with disciplinary action following the posting of the racist signs, they did note that at least two students were involved via a letter issued to parents and students.
“NWLSD stands firm in creating a culture of inclusivity, respect, kindness and compassion for everyone,” continued the statement. “As a school community it’s our responsibility to uphold these values and we will not tolerate any action from anyone that compromises or disrupts that culture.”
In addition to the “Blacks only” signs posted above the fountains, others had signs that read “Whites only” posted above them.
This comes on the heels of news last month that two Ohio House Republicans introduced a bill that would ban classroom instruction on topics that include gender identity, sexual orientation and critical race theory.

Cardi B might not talk politics when it comes to her music, but the Bronx native believes that it is her duty to use her platform to share what’s going on in the world.
The “Bodak Yellow” emcee discussed her stance on sharing world issues via her platform but not her music during an appearance on “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.”
“I don’t really put a lot of political things in my music, but I used the fuck out of my platform,” said the 29-year-old entertainer in a clip shared from the episode. “And I have used my platform even when I was a dancer. Because you might think that people are not looking, but they are.”
In 2019, the rapper’s favorite history teacher clapped back at people who questioned Cardi’s desire to speak her mind.
“For those of you on my feed who are trashing Cardi B for representing a political voice, a) she probably scored higher than you on the US History regents exam and was in my AP govt class b) you’re clearly not as busy as her, and what have you done to advance political discourse in this country?” wrote the teacher who taught Cardi at the Renaissance High School for Musical Theater and the Arts school located in the Bronx.

Biden Administration Discussing Possible Prisoner Trade To Free Brittney Griner, Sources Say
WNBA star Brittney Griner could soon be free. Sources say that the Biden administration is discussing the possible prisoner trade between Russia and the United States.
Forbes reports that the Biden administration has offered to swap convicted arms dealer Viktor Bout for Griner. According to the outlet’s non-government source, talks are still in the early stages.
Griner was detained in Moscow back on February 17 after customs police allegedly found vape cartridges and hash oil in her bags. Since her arrest, she has been behind bars in a Russian prison.
Bout was sentenced to 25-years in federal prison after being convicted of conspiring to sell millions of dollars of weapons to the Colombian terror group FARC in 2011. Nicknamed the “Merchant of Death,” he was the inspiration behind Nicholas Cage’s character in the film Lord of War.
Forbes reached out to Bout’s attorney, who declined to comment. Griner’s agent also declined to comment. The outlet reached out to a spokesperson for the State Department and Roger Carsten, the special presidential envoy for hostage affairs handling Griner’s release, and they also declined to comment.
Runner Collapses And Dies At Brooklyn Half Marathon Finish Line, 16 More Runners Hospitalized
A runner died at the Brooklyn Half Marathon finish line, and 16 were brought to area hospitals, with five experiencing serious injuries.
The 30-year-old man collapsed after crossing the finish line. He was transported to Coney Island Hospital and pronounced dead. According to NYPD, he may have suffered from cardiac arrest.
This year, the race took place amid unseasonably warm temperatures. The New York Post reports that the temperature at 9 a.m. in Coney Island was already 70 degrees. Humidity was at 83 percent.
“Maybe an organizer or health official should have called it,” a police officer told the outlet.
The race saw 22,000 people travel from the Brooklyn Museum to the Coney Island boardwalk. It was the first time the event had been run in person since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The health and safety of our runners, volunteers, partners, and staff remain the top priority for NYRR. In coordination and consultation with the city agency partners and weather experts, NYRR was closely monitoring weather conditions leading up to and during the race,” New York Road Runners said in a statement.
Oakland County Teacher Placed On Leave After Giving An Assignment That Placed Barack Obama Beside Monkeys
I’m saying, what’s wrong with people? It’s the audacity because who in their RIGHT mind would depict forever president Barack Obama alongside monkeys?
Well, an Oakland county teacher did just that. The blatant racism didn’t go unnoticed, though. The Roeper School leadership acknowledged the racial offense, saying it was caught after the assignment was given to its upper school class last week.
Carolyn Lett, the school’s director of diversity, said the worksheet was given on May 11, and the morning after, the school received a letter from a parent who was disturbed by the content of the assignment.
“The following morning, we were alerted that this went out, we discussed it ourselves and immediately spoke with the teacher,” said Lett, who has worked at the school for 29 years. “This is not anything we’ve seen before and nothing we’re used to.”
The worksheet went out to two introduction to biology classes, which was about 30 students. It was incorporated into a 130-page lesson plan that came from Duke University, titled, “Apes, monkeys, and lemurs, an introduction to primates.”
“It was a mistake and all the more surprising since we’ve been committed to training our staff,” said Clay Thomas, school board chair with three daughters at the school. “It comes as a great shock to our entire community, especially considering our history.”
School leadership did apologize, saying the curriculum was “completely inconsistent with our school’s philosophy and mission. The teacher has taken responsibility and admitted the mistake of not properly vetting the resource. She has been placed on administrative leave.”
Roeper has lower school and administrative offices in Bloomfield Hills and a middle and upper school in Birmingham. Leadership added that the school was founded in 1941 by George and Annemarie Roeper, who fled Germany to escape Nazi persecution. They established the school to educate children to become thoughtful, humane adults.
The school also said it is implementing a more thorough review process of its curriculum and continuing professional development for both faculty and staff in areas of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. The development will mainly focus on racial bias and administrators. Counseling and support resources were offered to the students.
“We will continue to educate our teachers and support our students to prevent something like this from ever happening again,” Thomas said.
