SWV’S New Biopic Has Been Picked Up By Lifetime
According to theJasmineBRAND there are new details about the 90’s R&B group SWV’s biopic have been revealed.
Sources tell us that the biopic has officially been picked up by the Lifetime network. We’re told the group is currently working on the script”.
theJasmineBRAND broke the initial story in 2019 about SWV being in talks with various networks about a potential biopic.
At the time lead singer Cheryl ‘Coko’ Gamble had hopes that R&B singer Sevyn Streeter would play her in the biopic. It’s unclear if those plans are still in the works. In 2019, Coko shared a photo of her and Sevyn and wrote,
“Me & my baby @sevyn … She has to play me in the SWV biopic! She looks so much like me”
News of an SWV biopic was first reported back in 2017. Coko said in a statement back then,
“We’re actually in talks [for] an SWV biopic, so stay tuned… There’s so much that people don’t know.”
Her groupmate Leanne “Lelee” Lyons said there was lots of interest around a possible biopic.Everyone’s interested.
Over the years, Lifetime has been responsible for several biopics including: “The Clark Sisters: First Ladies of Gospel,” “Whitney,” “Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart,” and “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.”
SWV became one of the most successful R&B groups of the 1990s. They had a series of hits, including: “Weak”, “Right Here (Human Nature Remix)”, “I’m So into You”, and “You’re the One”.
The group disbanded in 1998 to pursue solo projects, but reunited in 2005. The vocal trio landed a reality tv show in 2014 on WEtv titled, “SWV: Reunited” which chronicled the ladies getting back together after years apart. The show lasted for two seasons and ended in February 2015.
Here’s Your First-Look Photo at Margot Robbie’s ‘Barbie’ Sets 2023 Release Date,
“Barbie” is parking her pink convertible in U.S. theaters on July 21, 2023.
The release date for the much-anticipated live-action adventure from the iconic doll, played by Margot Robbie with a star-studded supporting cast, was announced on Tuesday during the Warner Bros. presentation at Las Vegas’ CinemaCon.
Notably, this movie will open against Christopher Nolan’s sprawling ensemble film “Oppenheimer” — but Barbie came to play, and has a dream cast of her own. Ryan Gosling, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, “And Just Like That” actor Hari Nef and Will Ferrell all co-star in the reimagining of Barbie’s world.
Directed by Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote the script with her partner Noah Baumbach, production is currently underway on the Mattel Films and WB project. A first-look image was shared on stage of Robbie in the aforementioned pink convertible, flashing a megawatt smile and donning a polka dot headband behind the wheel.
Producers on “Barbie” also include Robbie via LuckyChap with Tom Ackerley; Mattel’s Robbie Brenner; and David Heyman for Heyday Films. LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara and Mattel’s Ynon Kreiz are executive producers.
In a 2021, Robbie said taking on the beloved toy “comes with a lot of baggage … and a lot of nostalgic connections. But with that comes a lot of exciting ways to attack it. People generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t.'”
Production began earlier this year in London. “Barbie” is one of many Mattel properties on the burner for feature adaptation. Projects based on the magic 8 ball, Hot Wheels, “Masters of the Universe,” Polly Pocket, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, and the throwback dolls Chatty Cathy and Betsy Wetsy are all in the works.

‘The Batman 2’ Officially Confirmed With Robert Pattinson Returning!
Announced during the Warner Bros. presentation at CinemaCon, The Batman 2 is getting ready to take flight, and Robert Pattinson will be back as Batman/Bruce Wayne!
Additionally, Matt Reeves will return to write and direct the sequel.
“Matt Reeves, Rob Pattinson and the entire team will be taking audiences back to Gotham with The Batman 2,” WB’s Toby Emmerich said at CinemaCon, THR reports tonight.
The Batman is now playing on HBO Max after making $759 million in theaters worldwide, so it’s no big surprise that this new iteration of Batman is a top priority for WB & DC.
Additionally, a Penguin spinoff series is in the works for HBO Max, with Colin Farrell reprising the role. Another small screen The Batman spinoff project is also taking shape.
No plot details for The Batman 2 are available at this time, but a deleted scene from the first movie suggests we could be seeing more of Barry Keoghan‘s Joker down the road.
In this year’s The Batman…“Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.
“When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”
#RIP: Andrew Woolfolk, Saxophone Player for Earth, Wind & Fire in Group’s 1970s Prime, Dies at 71
Andrew Woolfolk, a saxophone player and multi-instrumentalist for Earth, Wind & Fire has died after a six-year illness, band frontman Philip Bailey confirmed in a social media post Tuesday afternoon. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member was 71.
“I met him in high school,” Bailey wrote on Instagram, “and we quickly became friends and band mates. Andrew Paul Woolfolk was his name. We lost him today, after being ill of over 6 years. He has transitioned on to the forever, from this land of the dying to the land of the living. Great memories. Great talent. Funny. Competitive. Quick-witted. And always styling. Booski… I’ll see you on the other side, my friend.”
“I’m so sorry to hear this,” responded jazz bass great Christian McBride. “What a major part of the EWF legacy.”
Woolfolk joined the band in 1973, several years after the group’s founding — he succeeded Ronnie Laws as sax player — but was recruited by by his high school friend Bailey well in time for the group’s astounding run of hits in the mid-’70s and beyond.
His initial run with the group ran from 1974’s “Open Your Eyes” album through the band going on hiatus a decade later. He returned for EWF’s reunion in 1987 and stayed with the band for six more years, ultimately departing in 1993. Besides the soprano sax, he also played flute and percussion for the group.
Among the smash albums he played on during the group’s original run was the 1975 blockbuster “That’s the Way of the World” — their only album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — plus albums including “All ‘N All,” “Gratitude” and “Spirit.” EWF’s hits during Woolfolk’s tenure with the band included the 1975 No. 1 smash “Shining Star,” plus “Boogie Wonderland,” “Fantasy,” “Reasons,” “Let’s Groove,” “Sing a Song” and others.
In a 2019 interview Bailey said that Woolfolk was living in a retirement home at that time and no longer performing.
Beyond EWF, Woolfolk also appeared on Bailey solo records like “Triumph” as well as albums by Phil Collins (1996’s “Dance Into the Light”), Deniece Williams, Stanley Turrentine, Level 42, Valerie Carter and Ricky Lawson.
Harvard University aims to address ties to slavery through $100 million pledge
Harvard University aims to rectify the institutions long-withstanding history with slavery during the 17th and 18th centuries.
After a 2019 report written by a committee appointed by Harvard President Lawrence S. Bacow revealed that the school had connections to “slavery [that] thrived in New England from its beginnings,” a fund in the amount of $100 million has been launched to make things right.
The money will be used to approach the issues faced by students from marginalized communities and will work to directly improve their educational opportunities, specifically as it pertains to the ivy league.
Per the findings, “Slavery – of Indigenous and of African people – was an integral part of life in Massachusetts and at Harvard during the colonial era.” While most people may not be surprised by the details of reports, Bacow expressed that those who read it might find the news “disturbing and even shocking.”
Harvard, known as the nation’s eldest institution for higher education was founded in 1636 well before slavery was abolished in 1865.
Further research disclosed that at the beginning of the 19th century, a total of five men connected to the institutions managed to build fortunes on the backs of enslaved people. The money also contributed to more than one-third of the funds donated or pledged to Harvard by way of private individuals.
“These donors helped the university build a national reputation, hire faculty, support students, grow its collections, expand its physical footprint and develop its infrastructure,” said the proceedings.
Additionally, museum collections at the school are said to include the remains of thousands of people of Indigenous and African descent. Details suggest that the remains are made up of the aforementioned enslaved people.
“We cannot dismantle what we do not understand, and we cannot understand the contemporary injustice we face unless we reckon honestly with our history,” said Tomiko Brown-Nagin the dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard who also serves as the committee chair for the individuals responsible for spearheading the recent study.
The $100 million will also be used to partner with historically Black colleges and universities and for recommendations included in the report. That advice includes memorials, research opportunities as well as curricula that both honors enslaved people and sheds light on Harvard University’s distasteful past.

‘Wicked’ Movie Split Into Two Films, Set for Releases in 2024 and 2025
Something’s happening in Oz. Jon M. Chu announced on social media that his upcoming adaptation of the musical “Wicked” will be split into two films. Universal Pictures will release the first “Wicked” movie on Dec. 25, 2024. The second “Wicked” movie will debut exactly a year later on Dec. 25, 2025.
“Wicked” will mark Chu’s follow-up to his “In the Heights” musical adaptation, which opened to rave reviews in theaters and on HBO Max last summer. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are set to star in the lead roles of Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. A prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” “Wicked” tells the story of everything leading up to Dorothy’s arrival in Oz. In its original Broadway run, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth portrayed frenemies Elphaba, who would become the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda the Good Witch.
“As we prepared the production over the last year, it became impossible to wrestle the story of ‘Wicked’ into a single film without doing some real damage to it,” Chu wrote in a statement. “As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years. We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie but two! With more space, we can tell the story of ‘Wicked’ as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters.”
Stephen Schwartz, who penned the music and lyrics to the original Broadway show, is adapting the “Wicked” screenplay with Winnie Holzman. Marc Platt, who produced the Broadway musical, is producing the film. The musical opened on Broadway in 2003 and continues to run. The show has earned more than $1 billion on Broadway and is second only to “The Lion King” as the highest grossing Broadway musical of all time.
Whitney Houston biopic: Naomi Ackie becomes late icon in impressive first footage, poster
LAS VEGAS – Whitney Houston finished the first night of CinemaCon on a high note.
The annual convention for movie theater owners and Hollywood studios kicked off with a presentation Monday evening by Sony Pictures, which ended its two-hour panel by showing clips of coming releases, including Tom Hanks drama "A Man Called Otto" and animated movie "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile," featuring the voice of Shawn Mendes as the titular reptile.
But perhaps most exciting was a brief look at "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," Houston's coming biopic starring up-and-comer Naomi Ackie ("Master of None") as the late music legend.
In the first clip, Ackie donned Houston's signature curls and a pastel-colored getup as she exuberantly performed the title track. Later, the actress was unrecognizable in a brief glimpse of the pop star's iconic "Star-Spangled Banner" during the 1991 Super Bowl, belting with her arms outstretched in a white tracksuit and headband.
Although the footage has not yet been officially released, Houston fans got their own peek at Ackie in the role earlier Monday with the debut of the movie's poster.
The film is directed by Kasi Lemmons (“Harriet”) and written by Anthony McCarten, whose Queen biopic "Bohemian Rhapsody" took home four Oscars in 2019, including best actor for Rami Malek for his transformative turn as Freddie Mercury.
A Whitney Houston movie is happening: Clive Davis teases 'honest' biopic
Music mogul Clive Davis, who shepherded Houston's career, is a producer on the film. He teased the movie in an interview with USA TODAY last year, saying that it strives to tell a "very realistic, very honest story" of her life.
Watching Ackie's audition tape, "we were very impressed that Whitney's persona was being captured," Davis said. "The (singing) voice, of course, will be Whitney's. When it came to Whitney, we just didn't think anyone could capture her vocal genius, so it will be the Whitney voice in the film."
"I Wanna Dance with Somebody" also features Stanley Tucci as Davis and Ashton Sanders ("Moonlight") as Houston's husband Bobby Brown.
CinemaCon runs in Las Vegas until Thursday, with other presentations by major studios including Disney and Warner Bros.
Corey Gamble Testifies He Witnessed Blac Chyna Assault Rob Kardashian
Corey Gamble testified at a Los Angeles court early Tuesday afternoon claiming he saw Blac Chyna punch Rob Kardashian and whip him with an iPhone charger at Kris Jenner’s home in 2016.
His testimony claims on Dec. 15, 2016, when he arrived at Kris Jenner’s home and witnessed an altercation between Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna. Allegedly, he saw Chyna standing near a bedroom with a rod in her hand while Rob reportedly looked red in the face and neck. As reported by Page Six, Gamble claims Chyna dropped the two-foot rod after she saw him enter the room and then picked up a phone charger that was on the floor. Moments later, she allegedly whipped Rob with the cord.
“She was hitting Rob and I got in the middle and got hit too. I had to try to get her attention on me so [Rob] could get his belongings and get out of the house. I could smell the alcohol on her.”
He added that the house was reportedly in shambles as Christmas decorations were knocked down on the floor. After Rob tried to leave Kris Jenner’s home, Gamble claimed Blac Chyna ran after him and tried to throw a patio chair at him as he tried to enter his car. However, Gamble’s car was blocking Rob’s so he was unable to exit from the property.
“She jumped on the back of him and punched him on the back of his head. She tried to get the small table to throw it at him but Rob was already in his car.”
Corey reportedly testified on behalf of Kris Jenner and the Kardashian/Jenner sisters.
Gamble concludes by saying he waited at the home for a couple of minutes to make sure Chyna didn’t chase after Rob in her car.
“I asked her what was going on and she yelled that she hated him … she didn’t like him,” Gamble said. Why would I like this fat fucker if he wasn’t a part of this family?’”
He said he decided to intervene in the altercation because he grew up in that type of environment and knew “this is something [Rob] didn’t want to be a part of.” Kris Jenner testified in court last week that she was fearful for her son because she reportedly witness Blac Chyna threaten Rob with a gun.
Previously, a former executive producer of ‘Rob and Chyna’ testified that he didn’t greenlight a second season due to the former couple’s intense relationship.
“That was the first and the last time I saw the couple happy. She was furious with him… and he was furious with her. It was very negative. It was very difficult to shoot a show ‘Rob & Chyna In Love’ when they were not even talking to each other.”
Bad Bunny To Play Marvel’s First Latin Lead After Signing To Star In ‘El Muerto’ Film
Bad Bunny is making some serious moves in the film industry after inking a deal to star as El Muerto, the Spider-Man antihero, in an upcoming self-titled film. The motion picture, which is expected to be released in January 2024, will be the first time a Latino actor has headlined a live-action Marvel movie, which is quite an accomplishment for the 28-year-old La santa hitmaker.
Bad Bunny’s character, whose real name is Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez, is a wrestler who gains his superpowers by using a mask, which has been handed down to him through generations. Fans of the Spider-Man comics would be aware that Peter Parker and El Muerto once wrestled together, with the latter almost revealing Spider-Man’s identity before being stung with a paralyzing poison. The two later teamed up to fight El Dorado, a rival who tried claiming El Muerto’s life in the comic series, but it’s unclear whether Sony plans to welcome Spider-Man into this stand-alone flick.
The news of Bad Bunny’s involvement was first shared at CinemaCon at The Forum in Caesars Palace on Monday, per Variety. “This opportunity to bring El Muerto to life, it’s amazing. It’s incredible,” he expressed. “I love wrestling, I grew up watching wrestling and now I’m a wrestler … I think it’s the perfect role for me. It will be epic, I’m sure.”
Bad Bunny is currently gearing up for the release of his other film with Sony Pictures, titled Bullet Train, where he stars opposite Hollywood veteran Brad Pitt. He’s also made appearances in projects such as Narcos: Mexico and a cameo in 2021’s F9.
Back in November, the Puerto Rican native, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, talked about his love for acting in an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. During their chat, Bad Bunny insisted that while acting is quite the contrast from his day-to-day job as a musician, there are still a lot of similarities as far as professionalism, work ethic, and respect are concerned.
“It’s different but at the same time it’s the same, you know,” he commented. “You have to work hard, to be responsible, and respect [your] colleagues. I enjoy it. It’s something new for me but I like it and I enjoy it. I’m learning, I’m practicing. I keep practicing, you know.”
He also spoke about his brief stint getting to land a cameo in WrestleMania, recalling how obsessed he was about the wrestling sport as a child. “I’ve always been, since I was a kid, a wrestling fan,” he continued. “That was a dream come. I can’t believe it, still. After WrestleMania, I watched—the whole month, every night before I go to bed—it was the fight. … Every night, every night.
Netflix Cancels Shows Amid Massive Subscriber Loss
Netflix has canceled a number of animated shows and reportedly fired several executives following the company’s highly publicized subscriber loss.
The streaming service recently announced a loss of 200,000 users over the first three months of 2022.
We reported earlier, via CNN, that the streaming giant, whose stock had already dropped more than 40% year-to-date, blamed the attrition on increased competition for viewers and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Netflix said its decision to pull out of Russia cost the company 700,000 subscribers.
This has prompted Netflix to cancel certain animated shows, such as the highly anticipated adaptation of the “Bone” comic series.
The animated adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The Twits,” and Lauren Faust’s “Toil and Trouble” were also canceled.
Netflix is cutting back on animation and putting all projects in development on ice, according to reports.
Meanwhile, amid the massive loss of subscribers, several executives have reportedly been canned, including Phil Rynda, Netflix’s Director of Creative Leadership and Development for Original Animation, alongside many of his staff.
Netflix has projected a loss of another two million subscribers during the April to June quarter.
It is unclear how many series and films are set to be axed, but its biggest hits are safe, such as “Stranger Things,” “The Witcher,” “Arcane” and “Squid Game,” per the report.
Netflix is reportedly spending $30 million dollars per episode on “Stranger Things” season 4
Kevin Hart Raises $100M to Form New Media Company
*Comedian Kevin Hart reportedly raised $100 million from private equity firm Abry Partners to launch a new media company HARTBEAT.
The new venture is a combination of his two production companies, Laugh Out Loud and HartBeat Productions, per The Hollywood Reporter. According to the outlet, Hart plans to use use the funding to grow the brand, hire more employees, and develop new content.
“The creation of HARTBEAT and our capital raise with Abry represent a new era in comedy,” Hart stated. “This all started out with a mission to keep the world laughing together, and I’m so proud our teams have delivered on that, putting in the hard work to build the most innovative and inclusive comedic storytelling company.”
Hart’s Laugh Out Loud has a partnership with NBCUniversal’s Peacock, and we reported earlier that HARTBEAT has a film deal with Netflix, as well as a partnership with SiriusXM and a deal with Audible and radio host rCharlamagne Tha God.
Last year, Hart inked a deal with Netflix that will see him starring in at least four films produced through his HartBeat Productions. According to Deadline, the agreement also includes a first-look film producing deal for the comedy. The pact comes after Hart’s comedy special, “Zero F**ks Given,” turned out to be Netflix’s biggest comedy film in 2020.
“Partnering with Netflix is an amazing opportunity for HartBeat and myself,” Hart said. “I am excited to act in and produce cutting-edge films with Netflix. Per THR, Hart’s company has more than 60 projects currently in development, including “Me Time” on Netflix with Mark Wahlberg and Regina Hall, “Storytown” on HBOMax and “Heist” by director F. Gary Gray.
Viola Davis Claps Back at Critics Who Disapprove of Her Portrayal of Michelle Obama: “Critics Absolutely Serve No Purpose”
“The First Lady” star Viola Davis knows that not everyone appreciates her portrayal of Michelle Obama.
It’s “incredibly hurtful when people say negative things about your work,” but it’s part of the job, she told BBC News.
“How do you move on from the hurt, from failure?” she said. “But you have to. Not everything is going to be an awards-worthy performance.”
There has been some criticism of Davis’ performance on social media, mainly for her exaggerated facial expressions.
Davis told the outlet, “Critics absolutely serve no purpose. And I’m not saying that to be nasty either.”
She said critics feel like “you’re surrounded by people who lie to you and ‘I’m going to be the person that leans in and tells you the truth,'” which allows them to be “cruel.”
“But ultimately, I feel like it is my job as a leader to make bold choices,” Davis said. “Win or fail, it is my duty to do that.”
Gillian Anderson and Michelle Pfeiffer also star in “The First Lady,” which explores the lives of two former first ladies.

DJ Tim Westwood Faces Sexual Misconduct Claims From Seven Black Women
Several reports have confirmed that legendary UK Hip Hop DJ Tim Westwood faces sexual misconduct allegations from seven women, all of whom are Black. Two of the women claim that Westwood used his status in the music industry to make sexual advances toward them.
A BBC Three documentary about Westwood titled Tim Westwood: Abuse of Power chronicles the allegations made against Westwood, with numerous women saying that he used his name to normalize unwanted sexual behavior. Four women even claimed that Westwood inappropriately touched them at music events.
With allegations going back as far as 1992 and as recent as 2017, the Black women who came forward with their story in Tim Westwood: Abuse of Power said they were hesitant to make their claims public because of the fear that their allegations would be dismissed because of their race.
Westwood’s rep told UK’s The Guardian that the accusations against him were false and “Any suggestion that he acts, or has acted, in the way described would be false and seriously defamatory.”
We will update this story as more details develop.
Biden Uses Clemency Powers For the First Time to Pardon 3 and Commute Sentences for 75
The White House announced on Tuesday that President Joe Biden is honoring Second Chance Month by pardoning three people and commuting the sentences of 75 others.
In his statement, Biden highlighted new initiatives to help “those re-entering society after incarceration,” including job training and workforce development programs.
“Today, I am pardoning three people who have demonstrated their commitment to rehabilitation and strive every day to give back and contribute to their communities,” Biden said. “I am also commuting the sentences of 75 people who are serving long sentences for non-violent drug offenses, many of whom have been serving on home confinement during the COVID-pandemic—and many of whom would have received a lower sentence if they were charged with the same offense today, thanks to the bipartisan First Step Act.”
According to the Associated Press, Former Secret Service agent Abraham W. Bolden, 86, Betty Jo Bogans, 51, and Dexter Jackson, 52, are among others who have received pardons. Bolden served on a presidential detail and was charged with attempting to sell a Secret Service file in 1964. He has since maintained his innocence throughout the years. However, Bolden claims that he was singled out due to his outspokenness against the agency.
Biden added, “While today’s announcement marks important progress, my administration will continue to review clemency petitions and deliver reforms that advance equity and justice, provide second chances, and enhance the wellbeing and safety of all Americans.”
