Searchlight's 'Nomadland' nabbed the top prize of Oscars' best picture, best director for Chloé Zhao and best actress for Frances McDormand at the 93rd Academy Awards.
At the culmination of Hollywood’s unprecedented awards season, Searchlight's Nomadland nabbed the top prize of Oscars' best picture, best director for Chloé Zhao and best actress for Frances McDormand at the 93rd Academy Awards on Sunday night. Zhao became only the second woman ever to claim the directing honor at the Oscars.
In acting categories, Anthony Hopkins won for best actor for Sony Pictures Classics' The Father, Yuh-Jung Youn won best supporting actress for Minari — becoming the first ever Korean actor or actress to win an Oscar — and Daniel Kaluuya claimed supporting actor for Warner Bros.' Judas and the Black Messiah.
In craft categories, Netflix's Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom won for both costume design and makeup/hairstyling, with hairstylists Mia Neal and Jamika Wilson becoming the first Black winners of the Oscar in that category. Amazon's Sound of Metal won for best film editing and sound. Netflix's Mank won for cinematography and production design, and Warner Bros.' Tenet won in the visual effects category.
Focus Features' Promising Young Woman won original screenplay while Sony Pictures Classics' The Father nabbed adapted screenplay.
Meanwhile, Pixar's Soul won the honor for best animated feature film and original score, Netflix's My Octopus Teacher won for documentary feature. And in the international feature film category, Denmark's Oscar selection, Another Round, picked up the honor.
Going into Oscar night, Netflix led all studios with 35 nominations, followed by Amazon with 12, Walt Disney (8), Warner Bros. (8), Focus Features (7), A24 (6), Searchlight (6), Sony Pictures Classics (6), Universal (4), Samuel Goldwyn (3) and Apple (2), among other companies.
This year's Oscar ceremony, which featured 11 first-time acting nominees, was produced by Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh and partially broadcast from downtown Los Angeles' Union Station as well as the awards' longtime venue, the Dolby Theatre.

#RHOA: Oh? Claudia Jordan Says Nene Leakes Ruined Her Own Career!
Cocktails with Queens host Claudia Jordan didn’t bite her tongue when asked about her former Real Housewives of Atlanta costar Nene Leakes.
During an interview on The Domenick Nati Show on Instagram, Jordan agreed when asked if Leakes is now irrelevant.
“Yes she has,” Jordan replied. “I’ll say this, it’s a shame because as much as we’re not cool, her and I, I don’t hate her. It’s like you went from making, like, probably $5,000 in your first season on a very unknown show. You didn’t create the show, but you were really a big part of that show becoming successful.”
“To go from nothing to something, then to something great and to have burnt so many bridges where no one’s rushing to the rescue to put you on anything, it’s sad,” Jordan continued.
She went on to say that she hates to see individuals like Leakes, who was once the highest-paid housewife with $2.85 million per season, “sabotage” their careers due to their own “attitude.”
“On your way up, if you want to act a certain way, people are going to remember on your way down. She shot herself in her own foot by doing that,” said Jordan.
Jordan went on to reference “ego” and said that playing the victim and lacking professionalism on set may have contributed to Leakes’ downfall.
“I think she needs to take a little bit of time because she is charismatic and she is funny. I’ll give her that. She’s also obnoxious and difficult to work with, and a victim. But she’s absolutely irrelevant right now,” Jordan said.
Leakes announced her departure from The Real Housewives of Atlanta in September 2020 after “an extremely long, exhausting, tiring, emotional negotiation” behind the scenes, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The former housewife has publicly slammed Bravo producer Andy Cohen, who she called “racist” and a “master manipulator” in a series of tweets. She also went on a tirade against former friend Wendy Williams.
“I will ALWAYS eat and eat good! Believe that. I have ALWAYS believed in multiple streams of income so the leakes are good you ole cocaine head and you ole racist. No one knew you until YOU knew me. Remember I’m ICON. Don’t forget,” Leakes tweeted in September 2020.
Jordan and Leakes’ tense history was chronicled on the Real Housewives of Atlanta when Jordan was a cast member during season 7. On the show they had an infamous confrontation in Puerto Rico.
In a June 2020 interview with Kandi Burruss, when asked if she regrets leaving the show after one season, Jordan said that she did.
“Sometimes I do. I’m like, I should have probably stayed and tried to flip it but you know, I was frustrated with everything going on in my life personally too. So I was like, ‘I’m leaving Atlanta’ but sometimes I regret it,” Jordan said.

The Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber vocals are in. DJ Khaled has revealed that the pop superstars are set to appear on his upcoming album Khaled Khaled. On Friday, Khaled shared video of himself on a FaceTime call with Timberlake, while teasing their “last minute” collaboration.
“This record touched me, man,” said Timberlake, who compared the song to JAY-Z’s “Song Cry” and “Holy Grail,” on which he was featured. “This is an important song. If ‘Song Cry’ would have never existed, but then ‘Holy Grail’ was ‘Song Cry.'”
Khaled also provided an update on his album progress: “BREAKING NEWS ALBUM 99% DONE!!!”
He later shared a screenshot of a missed FaceTime call from the two Justins, while revealing that the “Peaches” singer will also appear on his album. “@justinbieber I just got done with the mix a few days ago and @jtimberlake I just sent the record we did together off to mix,” he wrote.
Khaled and Bieber previously collaborated on hits like “No Brainer” and “I’m the One,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

A monster truck carrying the casket of rapper Earl "DMX" Simmons led a procession of hundreds of Ruff Ryders on motorbikes from his hometown of Yonkers to a memorial at Brooklyn's Barclay's Center on Saturday.
Around 2,000 invited guests are expected at the Celebration of Life event on Saturday and will be streamed on Youtube. It was originally due to begin at 4 p.m. ET but was delayed until 6 p.m.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark A. Young has tentatively dismissed the last of the cases brought by choreographer Wade Robson against the Estate of Michael Jackson. A final ruling will come after a hearing on April 26th.
Robson was joined in his lawsuit by James Safechuck, who also made the sexual molestation claims that appeared in the documentary. His case was dismissed last year.
This is the second time the case has been thrown out
Dionne Warwick Says she’ll have to give it some thought’ if Mariah Carey and Toni Braxton are icons!
Dionne Warwick isn’t one to hold back her opinions and reminded fans of that by letting it be known that fellow singers Mariah Carey and Toni Braxton weren’t icons in her mind.
Warwick, the first Black pop superstar, was recently interviewed by TrueExclusives and was asked what it took to be an icon. Regarded as one of the blueprints for many of today’s musical stars, Warwick didn’t know just what it took to reach the industry’s higher echelon and be regarded as one of the greats by the public.
“I don’t know. I just know when that status is reached, we know who they are. But what it takes, I don’t know. I wish I had the answer. I know it takes more than a hit record. I know that. There are many who never had a hit record who we know that are icons. Lena Horne, for one,” she answered.
Warwick was asked if Carey, a five-time Grammy winner with 18 #1 singles and a career spanning 30 years, could be considered an icon. The 80-year-old “I’ll Never Love This Way Again” songstress wasn’t quite sure.
“I don’t know. I don’t know her that well. I love her music. She writes incredibly well. ‘Hero’ happens to be one of my favorite songs that she wrote. I’d have to give that one thought,” Warwick said.
Warwick was similarly dismissive of Braxton, who has hits such as “Un-Break My Heart” and “Breathe Again” in addition to earning seven Grammy Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, seven American Music Awards.
“I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s something that Toni would want; if that where she feels she’s heading. I think she’s enjoying her status as a recording artist. I enjoy watching and hearing her. I don’t know if it’s something she wishes to accomplish or not. That’s another one I’ll have to give thought to,” she responded.
Warwick was more optimistic of Brandy—affectionately christened the “Vocal Bible” whom she believed had “potential” and was a “double threat” as a singer and actress. She was equally praiseworthy of The Queen of Hip Hop & Soul Mary J. Blige and said her “growth has astonished me.”
This is not the first time that Warwick’s thoughts of the newer generation of singers have prompted a backlash. In 2019, she told Essence that the current crop of entertainers just didn’t do it for her.
“I don’t know if 10 years from now, if anybody can sing the songs of our babies [artists] today, and that’s not as you guys say ‘throwing shade.’ That’s looking at it with reality,” said Warwick.
She included Beyoncé , who is now the most awarded woman in Grammy history with 28 statues, in that assessment.
“I have an admiration for Beyoncé Knowles Carter now. Watching her growth has been quite refreshing. It’s wonderful to see how she’s been able to create what and who she wanted to be and who she is… very proud of that, I really am,” Warwick told Essence.
“Now sustaining and becoming a big icon that Gladys Knight, or Patti LaBelle, or Johnny Mathis, or Frank Sinatra, or Sammy Davis Jr. is? I doubt that,” Warwick continued.
Warwick maintained that the “Crazy In Love” performer was not quite at the level of her 60’s counterparts.
“And I love her to death and can appreciate her talent. But that iconic status? It’s a long road [ahead],” she declared.
Warwick walked back her comments and insisted Essence had misquoted her.
“What I said is in quotes. What @Essence said is not. It takes a long time to reach and achieve iconic status. That’s not to say that Beyoncé isn’t well on her way. She is a gifted performer. That was a reach from Essence,” she tweeted in May 2019 which has since been deleted.

‘The View’ Co-Host Joy Behar Apologizes For Misgendering Caitlyn Jenner!
Caitlyn Jenner has responded to The View host Joy Behar’s apology for misgendering her on Friday’s show.
“Don’t sweat it, @JoyVBehar,” Jenner tweeted on Saturday morning. “I’m not about cancel culture. I know where your heart is. California has bigger issues than pronouns.”
Behar referred to Jenner three times as “he” while discussing Jenner’s announced bid for California governor.
“He’s got this guy Brad Parscale running his campaign. What do you think about that?” Behar asked co-host Sunny Hostin. “I mean, that guy was accused of using campaign funds to enrich himself. That’s who is running his campaign — or her campaign, rather.”
She made the same gaffe one more time and again corrected herself.
“I think that he should — she, rather — should take a seat and let somebody with the credentials take over a major state like California,” said Behar.
Following a commercial, Behar apologized for her mistakes.
“So, first of all, let me apologize for my pronoun mix-up,” she said. “I think I just didn’t get enough sleep last night. I had no intention of mixing them up and I tried to correct it immediately. But, whatever, it just came out. So I’m sorry if anybody was upset by that.”
Jenner has not yet commented on the situation.
Beyoncé Celebrates 'Lemonade' 5-Year Anniversary With Message For The BeyHive!
Beyoncé is honoring the legacy of one of her most lauded albums.
The R&B singer-songwriter took to social media to celebrate the five-year anniversary of her trailblazing sixth studio album, Lemonade, which turned five years old on Friday (April 23).
In a moment of reflection and gratitude, Beyoncé thanked her BeyHive on Instagram with a message of "healing, loving, forgiving and uplifting" all of those who supported the masterpiece.
"I’m grateful that this body of work has resonated so deeply with so many people. I’m so thankful for all the beautiful souls involved in making one of my favorite pieces of art," the 38-year-old captioned a series of behind-the-scenes snapshots for the album. "As I celebrate five years of LEMONADE, I encourage everyone to continue healing, loving, forgiving and uplifting. I hope you find joy today."
Lemonade sparked a massive movement in the realm of music for its politically-charged nature, as heard on the album’s leader “Formation,” a top-ten hit that called back to Yonce’s heritage with an anthem deeply rooted in Black pride, but also got personal on the intimate issues of her marriage as it related to her husband Jay-Z’s infidelity.
The LP debuted atop the Billboard 200 with 653,000 album-equivalent units, with first-week sales pushing 485,000 copies in alone, and was the third best-selling album of 2016 with year-end sales bringing over 1.5 million copies in the United States.
Since its release, Lemonade has remained Beyoncé’s most acclaimed album of her career, becoming one of the greatest albums of the 2010s. At the 2017 Grammys, Lemonade was nominated nine times, winning Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Music Video, but was defeated by Adele’s 25 for Album of the Year.
Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold say ‘Martin’ reboot won’t happen!
Tichina Arnold said that a Martin reboot is unlikely to happen.
“It’s something that we wanted to happen,” Arnold, 51, said. “It’s something that we tried very hard for it to happen, but the way it looks to me, realistically, it’s not going to happen. Not unless it’s an animation.”
Arnold, who played Campbell’s best friend Pam on the show, credited her for the idea of an animated re-imagining of the beloved sitcom.
She continued, “I always say a show can never ever be rebooted without the original cast. Now, we may be able to have a rebirth, maybe. As far as a reboot, I don’t think that’s going to happen.”
“Or a reunion,” Campbell added.
Martin, which aired for five seasons from 1992 to 1997, centered around Detroit radio and TV personality Martin Payne, played by comedian Martin Lawrence. It followed his relationship with girlfriend Gina Waters, played by Campbell, and her best friend, and his friends Tommy and Cole, played by the late Thomas Mikal Ford, and Carl Anthony Payne II.
It remains one of the most beloved television sitcoms in Black culture with a devoted following even 24 years after leaving the air.
Arnold acknowledged the loss of cast member Ford, who died in 2016 at age 54, and said that a reboot wouldn’t be the same.
“Tommy is no longer with us. The show is never going to be the same. And some things are best left alone.”
In 2018, Martin, Campbell, and Lawrence were asked by TMZ if the sitcom would return to which the comedian and actor answered, “Never say never. We don’t know nothing right now but never say never.”
During a 2019 appearance on the Sister Circle, Payne said he spoke to Lawrence about doing a show that “won’t be a reboot” and said the original cast wishes to add on to the legacy rather than remake it.
“We all just collectively felt like it wouldn’t be the same without Tommy plus we don’t wanna mess up that legacy but we can create a new one,” he said.
Ashanti Responds to Speculation About Her Having a Boyfriend!
Ashanti has made an art out of vacationing during a pandemic and posting photos of her in all her various beach and pool outfits. However, her latest picture caused quite a stir.
On Friday, the singer shared a photo of her and a man, who many believed was her boyfriend.
However, she later responded to these rumors, stopping the speculation in its tracks by commenting on an Instagram post, “Lmaoooo NO! He’s one of the managers at the restaurant!!! He is NOT my man and we are NOT dating.”
A lot of people have also been quick to point out that the man looks white and judging Ashanti for her taste in men. However, based on Ashanti’s other recent posts, it looks like she’s been in Cancun, Mexico, so the man could very well be Mexican.
The other slides in the same Instagram post-show Ashanti celebrating at a restaurant, which seems to corroborate her story. In one video, she’s partying with friends, and in a second, she shouts out the restaurant, “We had the best time! Taboo Cancun, we love you!” The man from the first photo also appears next to Ashanti in the video.
O.J. Simpson Suggests ’Bron Should Pick His Battles When Speaking Out Against Police Brutality!
Disgraced former NFL star O.J. Simpson is offering LeBron James some unsolicited advice after the NBA star shared and later deleted a Twitter post speaking out against the Columbus, Ohio, police officer who fatally shot 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant earlier this week. Many critics claimed James’ post incited violence against the officer.
On Thursday, April 22, the former Buffalo Bills running back posted a nearly two-minute video clip in which he took issue with the Lakers forward’s tweet — “YOU’RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY” — although he admitted to being a fan and an admirer of the work James has done and “how he’s helped his community and how he’s helped his friends and how he’s been fighting all of these social issues especially that of systemic racism in the legal system with the police departments around our country.”
However, Simpson soon quickly tells James, “you can’t fight every battle.” He added, “You gotta pick your battles. It’s a war that must be fought, but sometimes you need to take your time and be a little more patient before you comment on some of these bad incidents that are happening with these police departments.”
The 73-year-old believes that in this instance James, who has been very vocal about police brutality and other social justice issues over the years, “should’ve waited.”
The once double murder suspect then went on to blame the media for editing information surrounding the series of events that led to Bryant’s death to make it appear to be “another police officer overreacting and killing a young Black American.”
Simpson said once he saw the complete footage he felt “the police guy no choice, he responded.” “We wish he could have pulled a Taser, we wish he could have done it in another way, but in that instance, if he hadn’t done what he did, it appears to me that another young American would have had her life taken,” he continued. Simpson — almost as if he has some insight about how quickly an attacker can stab someone to death — said he didn’t fault officer Nicholas Reardon, who was later identified as the cop who shot Bryant.
Simpson concluded his statement by saying he disagreed with the notion of defunding the police but wants funds to be reallocated to better training. He advised James to keep “fighting the fighting” and later restated that folks should be more patient.
As previously reported, James shared and later deleted a post on Wednesday, April 21, in which he shared a photo of Reardon with the caption, “YOU’RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY,” along with an hourglass emoji. The post came one day following Bryant’s killing. Later that Wednesday evening, James explained why he removed the post, writing, “I’m so damn tired of seeing Black people killed by police. I took the tweet down because its being used to create more hate -This isn’t about one officer.” He added, “It’s about the entire system and they always use our words to create more racism. I am so desperate for more ACCOUNTABILITY.”
James has not yet addressed Simpson’s criticism.
Usher reveals Ush Bucks are promo for his Las Vegas residency!
R&B superstar Usher is preparing for his upcoming Las Vegas residency. He took a gamble by booking shows in Sin City during a pandemic but the demand to see Ursh perform is so high, he’s added six more dates in August.
By now, you may have seen “The Voice” coach’s baby face plastered onto dollar bills. In a new interview with Billboard, Usher shared some details about how and why Ush Backs were created.
“The idea behind Usher Bucks was really as a way of promoting the residency. And since then, there has been more conversations, thus proving roads lead to Las Vegas,” he explained. “Stay tuned. We’ve been working on the merchandise for the night and that was the start of it.”

There have been few news stories in 2021 that have generated as much discussion as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey where the couple shared their experiences with the British royal family and press. The things that Meghan and Harry revealed dominated the news cycle and sent The Firm into panic mode, perhaps even more so than anyone could have expected. It was certainly a shock to Winfrey, who admitted on The Nancy O'Dell Channel's talkshoplive that she didn't anticipate the information that Meghan shared or the impact that it would have.
"I was surprised," Oprah explained. "What? You're going there? You're going all the way there?" Over the course of the interview, Markle spilled some boiling hot tea, revealing things like the lack of support she received from Buckingham Palace when she was feeling suicidal and the apparent concern over how black their children would be.
"I had no idea that it would have the reverberating impact that it has had and continues to have. I did a lot of preparation for that," Oprah continued. "It was really important to me that what we put out there in the world was put out into the world at the time that everybody could see it and that things didn't leak and things weren't misconstrued before the actual interview happened."
Oprah revealed that following the three-hour interview, she impressed upon the crew the importance of not leaking any soundbites ahead of the airtime. "I stood up and said to the crew, 'We all know what was said here and how important it is to have a trust to the people who just shared that, so I'm hoping you all will not go out into the world and share what has happened here.' And nobody did," Oprah said. "So as we were releasing clips to CBS, we were releasing them in such a way that whatever was being put out there could not be exploited. So a lot of time and effort and energy went into it on my part."
The main difference between her usual interview and the interview with the Sussexes was that they weren't able to meet up before the final taping. However, she did communicate with them ahead of time via text. "I didn't see Meghan and Harry before but I did text them and say, 'Intention is very important to me. Tell me what your intention is so that we can be aligned in our goal,'" Oprah explained. Our shared intention was the truth. They wanted to be able to tell their story and tell it in such a way that allowed them to be as truthful as possible."
Ultimately, Oprah believes that the impact of the interview is directly related to their desire to tell the truth. "What makes it powerful is when you have somebody else who is willing to be as open, as vulnerable, as truthful as they were," Oprah concluded. "The reason the interview was what it was because they answered the way they did."
Whoopi Goldberg Working On A Elderly Black Woman Superhero Film!
Whoopi Goldberg is working on a superhero film based on an elderly Black woman.
The decorated actress, producer, writer, and lead host on The View is penning a script that will center around an elderly Black woman, who is the film’s protagonist. She will begin as a regular human but will develop superpowers. Throughout the movie, the older Black woman will learn to use her abilities. When asked by Variety why she chose the leading character to be an older Black woman, Goldberg responded, “Who’s really going to save the earth?” before answering, “old Black women.”
Goldberg recently graced the cover of the magazine for their pre-Oscar issue. The 65-year-old also reflected on the women who paved the way for her to thrive in Hollywood during that interview.
“I think of all the women: Diahann Carroll, Pearl Bailey, Dorothy Dandridge, Butterfly McQueen, Hattie McDaniel, Juanita Hall, who did great, amazing work that was overlooked.”
Goldberg has not released a name or possible release date for her superhero debut.
50 Cent and La La Anthony are producing a series based on Cyntoia Brown-Long’s life!
Following the success of the “Power” franchise on Starz, the premium cable channel has partnered with executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson on a limited series based on Cyntoia Brown-Long’s life.
La La Anthony, a longtime supporter of Brown-Long, came up with the idea and pitched it to 50. Anthony will serve as an executive producer of the show and could potentially appear in the series. Santa Sierra is also an executive producer and is writing the story.
“The Case of Cyntoia Brown” is based on the embattled ex-prisoner’s book “Free Cyntoia: My Search for Redemption in the American Prison System.” The series will touch upon Brown-Long’s troubled upbringing, shed light on her being sex trafficked by a boyfriend, and eventually tried as an adult at 16 years old in Tennessee courts and sentenced to life in prison for aggravated robbery and first-degree murder.
Brown-Long’s sentence required her to serve at least 51 years before being eligible for parole consideration, however, she was granted clemency by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam in January 2019. She was released from prison on August 8, 2019.
In a statement released by Starz, Christina Davis, president of original programming, said, “We’re honored to be entrusted with Cyntoia’s story, which shines a light on the injustice of a system that tried and sentenced an at-risk minor as an adult when she was a victim herself of sex trafficking. This limited series from Curtis, La La and Santa chronicles Cyntoia’s long journey to freedom and furthers our #TakeTheLead programming mandate centered on narratives by, about and for women and underrepresented audiences.”

Her infamous case drew the attention of Kim Kardashian, LeBron James, Rihanna and Drake. Last year, when a Netflix documentary on her life was scheduled to air, Brown-Long released a statement via Instagram claiming she was unaware of its production. “While I was still incarcerated, a producer who has old footage of me made a deal with Netflix for an UNAUTHORIZED documentary, set to be released soon,” she explained at the time. “My husband and I were as surprised as everyone else when we first heard the news because we did not participate in any way.”
“However, I am currently in the process of sharing my story, in the right way, in full detail, and in a way that depicts and respects the woman I am today,” she continued. “While I pray that this film highlights things wrong in our justice system, I had nothing to do with this documentary.”
This time, Anthony and 50 have Cyntoia and her husband, Jamie Long, on board. The couple will serve as consultants for the limited series.
Derek Chauvin Will Be Sentenced On June 16th For The Murder Of George Floyd!
The Hennepin County District Court confirmed that Derek Chauvin would be sentenced on June 16 at 1:30 pm.
The former Minneapolis police officer was found guilty earlier this week on the charges brought against him for the death of George Floyd in May of 2020.
According to the Hill, a jury deliberated for 10 hours after a three-week trial to find Chauvin guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
Chauvin is facing a possible sentence of up to 40 years in prison.
