Angela Bassett for Emmy Magazine - Feb 2021!
Actress Angela Bassett is opening up about her storied career in the February issue of emmy magazine!
She’s had many standout roles over the years, from “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” to “American Horror Story” to “Black Panther” — not to mention her hit show “9-1-1” on FOX.
Her big break was in John Singleton’s “Boyz n the Hood” in 1991, but she actually credits the 1992 comedy-horror movie “Critters 4” as a true “training ground” that changed everything.
Bassett said, “In most movies, if you are the Black woman, you are the girlfriend to the best friend of the white guy who is the lead. But in that little low-budget movie that I think we filmed at a Smart & Final [market] in Los Angeles, I was one of the leads. I didn’t disappear after the first act. I didn’t die. I wasn’t the sacrificial lamb.”
She added, “And it was shot out of sequence, so I could use it as a training ground, figure out how to craft a character that way. And if I fell on my face, it wouldn’t be in front of the whole world. Just fans of the ‘Critters’ franchise — and they were on number four, so there had to be some.”
Fast-forward to 1993 and she was landing her first Oscar nomination, for playing Tina Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do with It.”
For the full interview, pick up Emmy magazine on February 23.
That's not all! Be sure to watch the behind-the-scenes video from her emmy photo shoot below. Angela talks about doing stunts for “9-1-1,” her 23-year marriage to Courtney B. Vance, and their 15-year-old twins Bronwyn and Slater.
#RHOA: HOT or NOT? Cynthia Bailey in a Plunging, Snakeskin One-Piece Swimsuit For Her Birthday!
Cynthia Bailey is 54 and more fabulous than ever! The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member continued her birthday celebrations with a “surprise getaway” to Jamaica, hitting the beach in a sexy low-cut snakeskin swimsuit.
On February 19, Cynthia shared several sizzling photos from her tropical vacation. The mom stunned while posing in front of the ocean in an animal print one-piece with a seriously plunging neckline that reached down to her navel. The sultry swimsuit featured a halter-style top and an open back with strappy detailing.
Cynthia completed the glamorous look by sweeping her long, braided hairstyle to one side. She also topped off the trendy suit with a pair of large silver hoops, a chunky watch, and several bracelets.
“Age is not about getting older, it’s about getting better,” she captioned one picture, also adding a hashtag that reads, “Happy birthday to me.”
Cynthia’s head-turning look drew plenty of praise from fellow Bravolebs. “It’s the long sexy legs for me,” Marlo Hampton wrote in the comments of one photo, while Married to Medicine’s Toya Bush-Harris chimed in on a second snapshot, writing, “Beautiful, Elegant, Classy, and just Lovely.”

I couldn’t imagine going through 2020 without having a foundation of faith and a strong belief in God.”

#HipHopNews: Eve To Star In Abc Hip-Hop Drama ‘Queens’!
Eve is headed back to television. The rapper has landed a starring role in the ABC hip-hop drama “Queens.” According to Deadline, the hour-long pilot centers around four estranged and out-of-touch women in their 40s who reunite for a chance to recapture the fame and swagger they had as the Nasty Bitches, a ’90s group that made them hip-hop legends.
Eve’s character Brianna was Professor Sex, one of four members of the Nasty Bitches, who rapped about money, sex, and their glamorous lifestyle. Twenty years later, Brianna is a proud wife and busy mother of five. While her life may not be glamorous, Brianna loves her life. But when an opportunity arises for a reunion with her former group, Brianna has to decide whether or not she still has the swagger and confidence that made her an icon decades ago.
In addition to starring, Eve will record and perform original music as her character. “Queens” is written and executive produced by Zahir McGhee.
The Grammy and Daytime Emmy winner is no stranger to acting. Her movie credits include the Barbershop franchise, XXX, and Whip It. From 2003-2006, she starred as Shelley Williams on the aptly-titled UPN sitcom “Eve.” She also co-hosted four seasons of the CBS daytime series “The Talk” before leaving last year.
Eve, who recently launched her BBC Sounds podcast “Constantly Evolving,” hasn’t released a new album since 2013’s Lip Lock. In 2019, she dropped her single “Reload” featuring Konshens.
Naomi Osaka Beats Jennifer Brady In Straight Sets To Win 2021 Australian Open Women's Title!
As Naomi Osaka strode through the Champion's Walk leading to the court for the Australian Open final -- headphones on her ears, racket bag strapped to her back -- she reached out her left hand to tap a panel marked with her name and the year of her previous title there.
Not a big deal, she explained. Just a bit of superstition. Less than 10 minutes later, she began the match against Jennifer Brady. And less than 1½ hours later, Osaka won the last point, because that's what she does when the stakes are the greatest on her sport's biggest stages.
Osaka improved to 4-0 in Grand Slam finals by grabbing six consecutive games to pull away in what initially was a tight contest, beating Brady 6-4, 6-3 at Melbourne Park on Saturday.
"You don't go into a final wanting to be the runner-up. For me, I feel like every opportunity that I play a Slam is an opportunity to win a Slam," said 23-year-old Osaka, who will move up to No. 2 in the WTA rankings. "So I think maybe I put that pressure on myself too much, but honestly, it's working out in my favor right now."
With serves that reached 122 mph and produced six aces, and returns that helped create six breaks, Osaka became the first woman to win her first four major finals since Monica Seles did it 30 years ago.
That is part of Osaka's 12-0 record in quarterfinals, semifinals and finals at the majors.
"She plays so aggressive that she puts so much pressure on you to perform well," said Brady, a 25-year-old from Pennsylvania who played college tennis at UCLA and was participating in a Slam final for the first time. "And that's something that not every tennis player has that ability to do."
Osaka, the 2020 AP Female Athlete of the Year, is also on a 21-match winning streak that dates to last season and includes her championship at last year's US Open. She also won the US Open in 2018 and the Australian Open in 2019.
"What I have learned on and off the court is it's OK to not be sure about yourself. For me, I feel like I've always forced myself to, like, be 'strong' or whatever. I think if you're not feeling OK, it's OK to not feel OK," Osaka said. "But you have to sort of go within yourself and figure things out in a way."
Osaka was born in Japan to a Japanese mother and a Haitian father, and she and her family moved to the United States when she was 3. She has been a vocal advocate for Black victims of racism and police violence, saying at one tournament last year that she would refuse to play a match to spotlight the issue.
Idris Elba Will Be Returning for The 'Luther' Movie!
Idris Elba is returning to Luther, but not for Season 6. The 48-year-old actor will reprise the titular role in the long-running BBC drama series for a movie, which is filming sometime in 2021. Per The Daily Mail, Elba revealed the Luther movie during a Friday appearance on The All-New Capital Weekender, a popular U.K. radio show hosted by MistaJam.
MistaJam asked about Elba's 2021 plans, which are mostly a mystery up to this point. Several of his movies, including The Suicide Squad, are in post-production, and recent updates have been about behind-the-scenes work, including him and his wife Sabrina Dhowre producing a Crunchyroll anime series entitled Dantai. Luckily, the London native's fans won't have to worry about a drought of Elba content any time soon. Aside from his career as a music producer, the Thor and The Wire actor will also step back in front of the camera for a Luther movie.
"[I'm] definitely making more music. People that love my film and stuff, listen, I’m going to be making Luther: The Movie," he said. "I’m super excited, and I hope the fans are sort of excited for that. It’s been a long time coming for a movie, for people that have loved the show. We’ve been making the show for 10 years, so we’re making film."
These comments follow a more vague tease from Luther creator Neil Cross. In a November interview with The Sunday Telegraph's Insider section, Cross stated that the series, which aired on BBC and BBC America for five seasons between May 2010 and January 2019, would not have a sixth season, but something else was in the pipeline.
“There is not going to be a Season 6 — definitively no Season 6,” Cross, 52, said. “But Idris, (Season 5 director) Jamie Payne, and I will shortly have some exciting news to share. There’s gonna be more later, but it’s not going to be Season 6.”
Elba's upcoming movies include the Netflix western Concrete Cowboy, another western entitled The Harder They Fall, the George Miller fantasy film Three Thousand Years of Longing and the aforementioned The Suicide Squad, in which he plays DC Comics character Bloodsport. The Suicide Squad will release in theaters and via HBO Max on Aug. 6, but none of the other movies have release dates on the calendar.
Nick Cannon Returns To Morning-Drive Radio Gig On Power 106 In Los Angeles!
Controversial Nick Cannon is continuing his comeback, returning to morning hosting on radio station KPWR, better known as Power 106, a Meruelo Media outlet in Los Angeles.
The Top 40/rhythmic station sidelined Cannon in July 2020 after he made anti-Semitic comments on a podcast. He will also continue on the Skyview Networks syndicated show Nick Cannon Radio.
Cannon got into hot water last summer when remarks he made on the podcast Cannon’s Class surfaced. His guest on the June 30, 2020 show was Richard Griffin, aka Professor Griff, who is known for his own history of controversial remarks, which once led him to be dropped by the rap group Public Enemy.
In the course of their conversation, Cannon said that it was a shame that Louis Farrakhan, the Nation of Islam minister, was silenced on Facebook. Cannon claimed it was an example Jewish power that was turning that community into Illuminati, the Zionists, the Rothschilds.
However, Cannon managed to extricate himself from the cancellations wrought by his comments, apologizing and engaging in education session with Jewish leaders.
The 39-year-old Cannon has appeared on the television shows The Masked Singer, All That, Wild ‘N Out, America’s Got Talent, and Lip Sync Battle Shorties. He has also acted in the films such as Drumline, Love Don’t Cost a Thing and Roll Bounce.
Cannon also had been prepping his eponymous syndicated daytime talk show from Debmar-Mercury, which was slated for a fall 2020 bow in 90% of the country before the controversy delayed that project as well. Cannon will now will launch this fall.
Regarding today’s radio announcement, Cannon said, “I am back and ready to lift you up in the mornings and bring joy at the crack of dawn with original comedy and candid conversation! Tough times don’t last, but tough people do – and I am grateful for my supporters, friends and loved ones who have guided me through this journey these past few months. We grow through challenges and lessons together, but emerge better on the other side.”
Meruelo Media President and CEO Otto Padron added his support. “Nick Cannon is the consummate entertainer and more demanding on himself than on anyone else! His newly revamped and creatively turbo-charged local morning show will bring much needed comedic entertainment to LA mornings like only Nick can. Reunited with Teddy, Melissa, and J Carisma, Nick will deliver a uniquely Los Angeles-centric morning show fitting of our iconic Power 106 flagship!”
Beyoncé and Solange Is Providing Relief for Texans Affected by the Winter Storm!
Over the weekdend, the singer announced via her charity initiative, BeyGOOD, that she has teamed up with Adidas and Houston-based disaster relief organization Bread of Life to help provide financial relief to Texas residents currently suffering from the aftereffects of Winter Storm Uri. The unprecedented winter storm hit the state last week, leaving millions without electricity, heat, and even running water amid extreme freezing temperatures.
Those in need and affected by the storm are encouraged to apply using the organizations' Disaster Relief Assistance Application Form, which, if approved, will grant individuals up to $1,000 in aid to help with unforeseen costs following the storm. Those outside of Texas can also donate to Bread of Life to help further provide assistance to those who need it.
"We send our prayers to those impacted by the winter storm," read a tweet posted by BeyGOOD.
Beyoncé's sister, Solange, also encouraged her network to send support and assistance to Texans, and shared that she had recently donated to a mutual aid fund in Houston.
"We are so grateful to @solangeknowles for her significant donation to our post-freeze housing relief efforts," wrote the Mutual Aid Houston Twitter account. "The Houston love is REAL. #HoustonFreeze"

According to reports, Kardashian has requested joint legal and physical custody of their children, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
Early reports are saying that a settlement is already close to happening because neither party is contesting the parameters set by their prenup. There has been rumored drama for months, with insiders saying that the former couple was "worlds apart" over the summer. "They’ve been living separate lives for the past couple of years and are drifting further and further away from each other," In Touch reported. "Kim is focusing on expanding her brands, like SKIMS and KKW, her legal career, and raising the children... Kanye prefers being in Wyoming," but the source added that the children "always come first."
While Kimye is splitting after nearly seven years of marriage, In Touch reports that the Kardashian-Jenner family is "committed" to keeping West "a part of their family." The source told the tabloid, "The family is all on board with not making anyone out to be the bad guy. Kanye will always be a part of the Kardashian and Jenner families. Entertainment Tonight reports that West is "upset" that the marriage is ending, and that he will "forever" love Kardashian. "Kanye is upset that he and Kim couldn’t work it out, but he knows the two tried very hard to make it work," the source said. The rapper is "thankful for Kim and everything she did for him throughout their relationship. Kanye ultimately wants what’s best for Kim, but it will take him some time to adjust to his new normal."
Kim is focusing on her career and her children right now, as Keeping Up With The Kardashians comes to an end and her SKIMS brand continues to expand. People are already speculating about what her romantic life will look like now, but she "isn't ready to date and is not focused on dating yet," the source told E! News. "She's had a rough year and wants to focus on herself and her kids right now."

Chris “Mr. Big” Noth Will Not Be In ‘Sex And The City’ Reboot!
It was already revealed that Samantha Jones’s character would be absent from the Sex and the City reboot coming to HBO Max this fall. Now, fans of the show might be further disappointed to learn that the character Mr. Big also didn’t make the cut.
We first learned that Chris Noth would not return for his role as Carrie Bradshaw’s husband, John “Mr. Big” Preston, in “And Just Like That.” When we last saw Carrie and Big, they hit a rough patch in their marriage but decided to stick it out.
It is currently unclear how Big’s absence from the series will be addressed.
The outlet also learned that David Eigenberg, who played Miranda Hobbes’ husband Steve Brady, won’t be reprising his role either. But, there is still hope; a rep said Thursday that the actor is in negotiations to appear in the series.
“And Just Like That ” will focus on Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda as they navigate their 50s in New York
Megan Thee Stallion Confirmed She Has A New "Boo" While Defending Him!
Hot girl winter is in full effect: Megan Thee Stallion confirmed she's dating Pardison Fontaine during a Feb. 19 Instagram Live. Addressing her Hotties' concerns over what seemed like a heated confrontation in an earlier Instagram Live, Meg defended her fellow rapper. (An unidentified man could be heard shouting, "Tell Megan to come to the door … Y'all got five seconds before I come through this sh*t," during the broadcast, per Complex.)
"People don't know what the hell they talking about, they just be saying anything," she explained to her followers in the video. "I didn't like what they was trying to say about Pardi. 'Cause he is so calm and so sweet. And very, you know … That's my boo. And I really like him … He is so perfect and he would never do anything to hurt me, just so y'all know."
After one fan commented, "You're a hot girl… acting like a simp," the "Body" rapper replied that she "never said hot girls can’t have boyfriends."
For his part, Pardi, whose real name is Jordyn Thorpe, removed all doubt they're dating when he shared Instagram photos of their elaborate Valentine's date the same day. "SOME TIMES YOU JUST GOTTA DO THE MOST," he captioned the series of shots that included everything from a surprise private jet filled with roses, a personalized "Pardi with a Hottie" lunch menu, and a bed covered in rose petals in the shape of a heart. Meg posted her own photo from the romantic day to her Instagram stories, writing, "Still not over it," along with a crying emoji. The "Backin' It Up" rapper also made a cameo in another of Meg's IG Lives, kissing his girlfriend on the cheek, as seen in a screen recording from The Shade Room.
While celebrating her 26th birthday earlier in the week, Meg hinted that she was in a relationship but didn't reveal with whom. "I'm healthy, I can take care of myself, my friends & family love me, my boo love me (he mad at me rn but he still love me) shiddd Beyoncé love me, I’m just happy and blessed lol," she tweeted on Feb. 15.
If Meg and Pardi's romantic Valentine's Day date is any indication, her new season of love, happiness, and blessings has only just begun.

Ocasio-Cortez Fundraising Drive For Texas Relief Raises $4 Million!
A fundraising effort spearheaded by New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to help storm-battered Texans has raised more than $4 million in just a few days.
On Saturday, Ocasio-Cortez was on the ground in Texas to celebrate the success of the fundraising effort, which will go to local organizations providing Texans food assistance, homelessness relief and elder care. She was joined by Democratic Texas Reps. Sylvia Garcia and Sheila Jackson Lee, all of whom helped fill boxes at the Houston Food Bank.
"When disaster strikes, this is not just an issue for Texans; this is an issue for our entire country," Ocasio-Cortez told reporters. "And our whole country needs to come and rally together behind the needs of Texans all across this state."
She added: "That's the New York spirit, that's the Texas spirit, and that's the American spirit."
Winter storms across Texas left dozens dead, knocked out power for millions for days and many still do not have safe drinking water.
Garcia said the fundraising idea was spurred by Ocasio-Cortez, who sent her a text saying she wanted to help. "You know, we're from Texas right?" Garcia told reporters. "Who does things with New York? We always kind of make fun of New York. But this time we love New York."
Ocasio-Cortez announced the fundraising Thursday afternoon on Twitter. Within two hours, the effort had pulled in $325,000 in donations. By Friday morning, the total was up to $2 million. As of Saturday afternoon, $4 million, according to Ocasio-Cortez.
As Houston Public Media reports, the money will go toward several organizations, including the Houston Food Bank, Family Eldercare, Feeding Texas, and the Bridge Homeless Recovery Center. But charity itself, while helpful, doesn't replace the need for policies that prevent power grids from failing in the future, Ocasio-Cortez said.
No, The Blackouts In Texas Weren't Caused By Renewables. Here's What Really Happened
"We need to make sure that we make short and long-term policy decisions to that this devastation — preventable devastation — never happens again," she said.
A number of factors contributed to the massive power failures in Texas, which relies on its own electricity grid.
