She shattered Hollywood’s glass ceiling over an insult.
Reese Witherspoon was so bothered by a magazine article that called her washed up, she launched the hit HBO show “Big Little Lies” — and eventually got women at the network equal pay, according to a new Vanity Fair profile.
“An actress came up to me at a party and said, ‘Do you know what you’ve done?’ I had no idea what she was talking about,” Witherspoon tells the April 2020 issue.
“[HBO] had called her agent to rewrite her contract. She was then paid twice as much as she had been.”
Witherspoon, 43, says in the interview that a harsh, throw-away line in a 2012 New Yorker magazine profile irked her into taking action.
The star — who was then 36 and not getting much work — teamed up with her talent-agent husband, Jim Toth, to create her own production company.
The goal was to create better roles for actresses of all ages — and get more women in directors’ chairs, she says, recalling the bad old days on movie sets.
I can remember being in pictures in which I was the only woman on the set and there would be 150 men,” Witherspoon says. “Maybe there would be a couple of women in wardrobe. I remember when I was a kid, I would find them and cling to them.”
But after executives at HBO fell in love with the Monterey, California-set drama “Big Little Lies,” Witherspoon had leverage with executives, she recalls.
During negotiations, she demanded that honchos pay women on set the same rate as men, according to the article.
She adds that it’s important for women in Hollywood to share their pay rates with each other to help keep studios honest
And the best way to ensure never going out of style is to have a sharp sense of humor, she says.
“You can’t be rendered obsolete if you just keep being funny. Guess what gets rendered obsolete: Your boobs go south, your face goes south, your ass goes south, but you can always be funny,” Witherspoon tells the mag. ‘”Funny doesn’t sag.

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kenya Moore has been slapped with a lien over unpaid taxes amid her nasty showdown with co-star NeNe Leakes.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, the State of Georgia and Fulton County have filed a lien against the reality star.
The lien accuses Moore of failing to pay taxes on her Atlanta property in the amount of $278.11. The State of Georgia slapped the lien against Moore’s home, which means they will collect if the property is sold.
The lien remains active and has yet to be paid off.
As reported, Moore previously had tax issues with the IRS. She paid off a $152,678 federal tax lien last year.
The financial trouble comes amid Moore’s epic fight with NeNe Leakes on this week’s episode of “RHOA.” It all started as the ladies were preparing for their girls’ trip to Greece. Before the departure, Moore announced to the press she was splitting from her husband Marc Daly. The two had been having martial issues for months and she finally decided to end it. =
On the trip, NeNe tried to make amends with Kenya but didn’t feel the energy being returned. Things quickly went south between the ladies. The two ended up having to be held apart while they went at it at a group dinner.
After the episode aired NeNe took to social media speaking highly of costar Porsha Williams. Nene posted a photo with Porsha captioned, “Big sis, Lil sis is back! The past is the past! I don’t care about yesterday! We are sisters today #byereceipts @porsha4real.”
Porsha posted her on photo of the two writing, “What door 🚪? Big sis /lil sis through the ups and downs because real recognize real. It’s all love & forgiveness❤️”

#HipHopNews: 6IX9INE Sued By Fashion Nova For $2.25 Million: Report!
6ix9ine can't seem to escape legal troubles. As he finishes the remainder of his prison sentence behind bars, the Brooklyn rapper has been hit with a $2.25 million lawsuit.
According to a report TMZ published on Tuesday (March 17), Fashion Nova is suing Tekashi for failing to repay the advance the rapper received from the clothing brand. Back in October of 2018, Tekashi allegedly made a deal with Fashion Nova to promote their brand in various social media posts and in his music. Fashion Nova paid 6ix9ine $225,000 for his services.
Then, two weeks later, 6ix9ine was arrested on federal racketeering charges. The rapper has been locked up ever since, and was not able to fulfill his side of the deal. Fashion Nova also alleges that Tekashi and his team managed to hide his criminal past from them. His publicized testimony against his former Nine Trey Gangsta Bloodz associates reportedly convinced the popular clothing company that he is not a good brand ambassador for them.
The expensive lawsuit will be one of several challenges 6ix9ine will have to face upon his release later this year. On (March 9), XXL confirmed with the Federal Bureau of Prisons that the rapper will be released on Aug. 2. At that time, he will only have served 21 months of the 24-month sentence he received late last year.
6ix9ine plans to continue his rap career to fulfill his eight-figure record deal, which he signed last October. Some people believe he will be able to resume a successful career while other critics think he's done.
Fashion Nova has declined to comment on the reported lawsuit via e-mail. XXL has reached out to 6ix9ine's legal reps for a statement.
Ava DuVernay & Netflix Sued Over “When They See Us” By Former Prosecutor Linda Fairstein!
Netflix and Ava DuVernay are facing a lawsuit over the series “When They See Us”. On Wednesday (March 18th) a lawsuit was filed by Linda Fairstein, a former prosecutor whose office oversaw the Central Park jogger case. She claims she was defamed by the Netflix series about the case. The suit alleges:
“In the film series, which Defendants have marketed and promoted as a true story, Defendants depict Ms. Fairstein — using her true name — as a racist, unethical villain who is determined to jail innocent children of color at any cost”.
It also states: “Throughout the film series, Ms. Fairstein is portrayed as making statements that she never said, taking actions that she did not take — many of them racist and unethical, if not unlawful — in places that she never was on the days and times depicted,” the suit states. “On a number of occasions, Ms. Fairstein is portrayed using inflammatory language, referring to young men of color as ‘thugs,’ ‘animals’ and ‘bastards,’ that she never used.”
Netflix, as well as director Ava DuVernay and co-writer Attica Locke, are named in the lawsuit.
The streaming service has responded to the lawsuit:
“Linda Fairstein’s frivolous lawsuit is without merit. We intend to vigorously defend ‘When They See Us’ and Ava DuVernay and Attica Locke, the incredible team behind the series.”
Last year, Ava DuVernay responded to an essay that Linda Fairstein wrote where she claimed that she was falsely portrayed.
When They See Us is a is a television miniseries created, co-written, and directed by Ava DuVernay for Netflix, that premiered in four parts on May 31, 2019. It is based on events of the 1989 Central Park jogger case and explores the lives and families of the five male suspects who were prosecuted on charges related to the rape and assault of a woman in Central Park, New York City. The series features an ensemble cast, including Jharrel Jerome, Asante Blackk, Jovan Adepo, Michael K. Williams, Logan Marshall-Green, Joshua Jackson, Blair Underwood, Vera Farmiga, John Leguizamo, Felicity Huffman, Niecy Nash, Aunjanue Ellis, Marsha Stephanie Blake, and Kylie Bunbury. When They See Us received acclaim for its performances and casting.
Last year, Netflix and DuVernay were sued over the scene surrounding the police interrogation technique depicted in the film. The scene takes place in the fourth episode of the series. A character confronts NYPD detective Michael Sheehan with allegations that he coerced a confession out of the five original defendants, who were later exonerated.The company behind a controversial police interrogation technique filed the federal lawsuit. They claim that it was defamed by the series.
'Rosie O'Donnell Show' To Return for One Night Only to Help Raise Money Amid Coronavirus Crisis!
O'Donnell will be hosting the special, which will be a live-streaming fundraiser dedicated to raising money for The Actors Fund amid the on-going coronavirus pandemic.
"Everybody who knows me knows that Broadway has been one of the brightest lights in my life since the time I was a little girl," O'Donnell said in a statement. "It has also been the lifeblood of New York City for generation after generation. After all Broadway has given to the world, now -- in this time of tremendous need -- it’s our turn to give something back."
With the coronavirus outbreak sweeping across the country, state and local governments have been implementing social distancing regulations designed to slow down the spread of the illness.
These new protocols have led to the closure of most public events and locations including all of Broadway. Every Broadway performance has been cancelled until at least April 13, at the earliest, leaving thousands of actors, stage hands and back-office employees out of work on leave for at least the next few weeks.

Some Restaurants Are Offering Toilet Paper with To-Go Orders Amid Coronavirus Pandemic!
The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has been causing all kinds of problems for people all over the world. Since we, as a collective, have never experienced anything of this caliber before we are ill prepared for what the proper protocols are for survival. Even realizing that we're at such a critical time in our history, and not having anything to liken it to, makes things a bit murky as to how we're supposed to behave right now, which makes everything even scarier.
One of the many items that has been constantly in high demand is toilet paper. Perhaps because initially many weren't prepared to deal with the idea of being sequestered inside of their homes for an indeterminate amount of time. However we have all been making the best of it, attempting to adjust our lives with more time indoors and less time in the outside world. And that's where toilet paper, a very hot commodity during this worldwide crisis, comes into play.
However the CDC is advising that toilet paper is not the most important thing to stockpile during these uncertain times. Business Insider reports;
We advise against stockpiling toilet paper beyond reason so everyone can get fair access to the supplies they need; see why two experts say that's more harmful than helpful here. To protect yourself effectively against the coronavirus, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends washing your hands often for at least 20 seconds each time, avoiding close contact with people who are sick or if you yourself are sick, and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces daily.
Another one of the sacrifices we have to make in the midst of the current COVID-19 pandemic is having to limit our time inside of restaurants. However, there may be a certain souvenir many places will deliver along with people's orders and that much needed piece of equipment is the most coveted prize of the moment; toilet paper. Food & Wine shares that though many restaurants have been restricted to only offering takeout or carry-out orders, some have been offering more than just food. Pizza Schmizza in Portland, Oregon, offered free toilet paper with every order for two nights this week.
'Friends' Reunion Special at HBO Max Has Been Delayed!
The Friends reunion special was something we had all been looking forward to, however, the taping has been delayed due to concerns about coronavirus.
THR reports that the special, that would reunite original stars Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, was set to tape next week at Stage 24 of the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, Calif.
Now, production on the event has been postponed until at least May, although a firm filming date has not been announced.

Judge Overturns Verdict That Ruled Katy Perry Stole Music From Christian Rapper!
Katy Perry has reason to make a joyful noise at the moment. A judge has overturned a jury’s verdict that found the singer stole music from a Christian rap artist.
U.S District Judge Christina Snyder overturned the verdict earlier this week, citing that the disputed sections of Perry’s “Dark Horse” and Marcus Gray’s “Joyful Noise” were not distinctive enough to be protected by copyright.
Snyder wrote:
“It is undisputed in this case, even viewing the evidence in the light most favorable to plaintiffs, that the signature elements of the eight-note ostinato in ‘Joyful Noise’ is not a particularly unique or rare combination.”
In August, a jury awarded Gray—whose stage name is Flame—and his co-writers $2.78 million. The jury also found that Gray was entitled to 22.5 percent of the “Dark Horse” profits.
Perry and her co-writers, which include Dr. Luke and Max Martin, would all contribute to the amount. Perry was ordered to personally pay $550,000.
“When the jurors returned a unanimous verdict of infringement, I cautioned my clients that we had only finished Round 11 of a 15-round match and that the next round would take place in the court of appeals,” Gray’s attorney said in a statement after Snyder overturned the verdict.
“We believe the jury was right and will do our best to restore their verdict on appeal.”
Gray’s “Joyful Noise” was released in 2009. Perry and her co-writers testified in court that they had never heard of the song when “Dark Horse” was released in 2013 and spent four weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100.
Gray first sued Perry in 2014 and was seeking $20 million.

Ciara and Russell Wilson Donating a Million Meals to Seattle Food Bank Amid Coronavirus Pandemic!
Ciara and Russell Wilson are helping out their community amid the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In a video announcement shared on their social media pages on Tuesday, the couple announced that they will be donating a million meals to a local food bank to aid in relief efforts during the outbreak.
Wilson, 31, began the video by noting how the coronavirus outbreak is “changing the world second by second, minute by minute,” saying, “People are losing loved ones. The elderly and the young. The people in between. You think about people losing jobs — even in Seattle.”
“What we’ve decided to do is partner up with our local food bank in Seattle, Seattle Food LifeLine, and we’re gonna donate a million meals [and] hopefully make a difference,” the NFL star said.
“We want to encourage everyone out there to join us in whatever way that you can, big or small. Everything makes a difference. Everything that we do together makes a difference,” Ciara, 34, continued.
“Together, we will conquer this tough time we are going through,” the singer said, to which Wilson added, “We will.
The two stars ended the message by encouraging fans to “keep the faith” and “practice social distancing” during the ongoing health crisis.
“Praying for everyone out there,” Ciara concluded.
Migos Agree To Pay $30,000 For A Settlement In Fyre Festival Legal Battle!
Although the Fyre Festival disaster happened almost two years ago, the aftermath is still underway. According to The Blast, Migos have agreed to pay back $30,000 as part of a legal battle for their payday from the Fyre Festival.
According to court documents reportedly obtained by The Blast, Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff have come to an agreement in the Fyre Festival bankruptcy.
The highly successful rap trio was paid $100,000 to perform for the doomed Fyre Festival that never took place. Migos agreed to pay $30,000 to the Trustee presiding over the Fyre Festival bankruptcy. The court documents allegedly read, “The Defendant shall pay the total sum of $30,000.00 (the “Settlement Payment”), as full and final settlement and complete satisfaction of any claims the Trustee has raised against the Defendant.”⠀⠀
All claims against Migos will be dismissed by the Judge as a result of the settlement that was agreed upon.
In August 2019, the Trustee who was assigned to preside over the Fyre Festival bankruptcy sued a number of celebrities who were paid to promote the fraudulent festival.
The Trustee filed lawsuits demanding that the celebrities that were paid to return the money that was received to assist on paying back millions owed to multiple creditors. Some of the celebrities that were sued include Blink 182, Kendall Jenner, and model Emily Ratajkowski.
The Trustee cited Kendall and Emily for having a “clear lack of good faith” since they failed to let their followers know that they were compensated for the social media posts.
Additionally, “Nor did they inform their fans and followers that they ultimately decided not to attend the Festival because of problems with the Festival of which they and their agencies were uniquely aware.”
Leading talent agency ICM was also sued for over $350,000 that was paid to lock in performances from Lil Yachty, Migos, and Rae Sremmurd.
The man responsible for the Fyre Festival scam, Billy McFarland, was sentenced to six years in prison on fraud charges. He is currently in prison after pleading guilty to the charges. He was ordered to pay a staggering $26 million in restitution once he is released from prison.
The lawsuits filed by the Trustee is desiring the return of $14.4 million that was paid out from the Fyre Festival. The Blast reports that “Billy McFarland is accused of spending $315,645 on personal expenses including a fancy New York penthouse.”
Lana Condor accuses Trump of endangering Asians over coronavirus: 'You should be ashamed'!
Lana Condor is calling out President Trump for repeatedly calling COVID-19 the "Chinese Virus."
The Vietnamese-born American actress (X-Men: Apocalpyse, To All the Boys I've Loved Before) slammed the president on Twitter for seemingly trying to get Americans to associate the pandemic that's now spread worldwide with people from China.
"You have no idea the ramifications your racist words and actions have on the Asian-American community," Condor wrote. "You simply cannot even fathom the danger you are putting our community in. How dare you. You should be ashamed of yourself. You call yourself a leader? You know what leaders do? They LEAD by setting good examples and ACTION. Something we've yet to see you do. You need to take notes on Chinese billionaire Jack Ma who is ACTUALLY leading -- by donating tests and millions of masks to AMERICA because you haven't. Please. Be Better. So we aren't afraid to leave our house in fear someone will verbally or physically abuse us because of your xenophobia."
Trump used the term "Chinese Virus" in a series of tweets this week. On Wednesday the president defended the usage to reporters. "It's not racist at all," he said. "No, not at all. It comes from China, that's why. It comes from China. I want to be accurate."
The White House also issued this statement: "Spanish Flu. West Nile Virus. Zika. Ebola. All named for places. Before the media’s fake outrage, even CNN called it 'Chinese Coronavirus.' Those trying to divide us must stop rooting for America to fail and give Americans real info they need to get through the crisis."
It's true many viruses and diseases are named for the place that they seemingly originated. And it's accurate that COVID-19, caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2, originated in China (and no, it wasn't a biological weapon created in a lab).
There are just a few problems with the White House's logic.
First, "Chinese" is not a place.
Second, the disease already had a name – the descriptor "novel coronavirus," or the more specific "COVID-19" – that has been widely used for months.
And finally, there have been reports of customers avoiding Asian-owned business and outright racist attacks in recent weeks linked to people associating the virus with Asians.
So when the president swerves out of his way to try and re-brand COVID-19 the "Chinese Virus" – again, an ethnicity, not a place – it sure sounds like an attempt to blame certain people for what's essentially a random virological accident with terrible consequences for everyone (including China).
And if you think people would never confuse "Chinese Virus" and Chinese people, that it's just a name, think about this: 38 percent of Americans say they won't drink Corona brand beer anymore despite Corona having nothing whatsoever to do with the coronavirus – which is remarkable, particularly because there are so many actual good reasons not to drink Corona.
