Taraji P. Henson for Self Magazine - December 2019!
Taraji B. Henson says her depression would get so bad before she got help that she felt like she was in a “dark cloud.”
“I noticed the mood swings, like, you know, one day I would be up and the next day I would be down, feeling like I don’t want to go out in public, almost agoraphobic,” the 49-year-old “Empire” actress said in a new interview with Self magazine.“There would be days when my brain wouldn’t stop racing with the worst scenarios in the world, which would heighten my anxiety,” she said. “There was no shame when I started to recognize it. It was like, ‘I have to get some help,’ because I’m the life of the party and when I go dark, I go dark. I don’t want to leave the house.”
Henson decided to seek the help of a therapist, who she found through “Empire” co-star Gabourey Sidibe.
“When you find that right person, oh my God, the sky cracks open,” she said. “It was extremely important for me to find a therapist who is a black woman, just because black women live in a different world than everyone else. Our problems, daily interactions, and expectations are different than most other people, so I wanted a therapist who I could cut through the societal foundation of who I am with, so that we could get to my specific issues.”
Henson also told the magazine that the “strong black woman” trope is a myth, and thinks it’s dangerous.
“There are some times where I feel absolutely helpless,” she said. “That’s human. Everybody feels like that. Just because I’m a black woman, don’t put that strong-superhero thing on me.”
Henson launched the Boris Lawrence Henson Foundation, named after her father, in 2018. The nonprofit aims to end the stigma surrounding mental health in the black community.

#RHOA: #TWIRL! Kenya Moore's The Real Housewives of Atlanta Marching Band Stunt Left Andy Cohen Stunned!
Bravo's Real Housewives franchise has given viewers many jaw-dropping moments over the years, but Kenya Moore's stunt on the Sunday, Dec. 8 episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta was on a whole other level.
In the episode, Kenya crashed Marlo Hampton's wig launch event. And she didn't come alone. Kenya, who said she was there to support Marlo, brought a marching band and product ambassadors for Kenya Moore Haircare. Well, maybe not a marching band."Marlo's a strong girl. She got this. I'm trying not to be in that place. And see, I know if I stay, I will snatch Kenya up and that two little piece band she has," NeNe Leakes said in a confessional while explaining her hasty exit from the wig event. "Bitch, two people. Two!"
Still, she walked out with a Kenya Moore haircare bag.
On Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, RHOA star Eva Marcille was asked her opinion on Kenya's stunt and held nothing back.
"I wouldn't do it," she said. "But it was hilarious. It was absolutely hilarious. I'm here for it."
"My mouth dropped," Andy Cohen said. And that's saying something. Andy has seen a lot across the Real Housewives franchise.
"[Cynthia Bailey] told me there was a marching band, but I thought she was just putting on because there is no way this lady brought a marching band," Eva said. "And it was full Beyoncé!"
Marlo was so put off by Kenya's arrival, she called security to have her removed. And she did it all over a mic. When it looked like that wasn't working, she asked her attendees to participate in a chant.

#HipHopNews: Nick Cannon Drops Second Eminem Diss Track ‘Pray For Him’!
Just 24 hours after dropping “The Invitation,” the radio host reloads with “Pray for Him.” After turns from his Black Squad crew, Nick closes out the track with a flow inspired by Em’s own “Renegade.”He accuses Slim Shady of supporting Trump (“You voted for Trump, bitch, admit it”) and calls him a “drug addict.” “You’ll never be a legend,” raps Nick. “Look at all that fuckin’ Botox / Bitch, I know you embarrassed / Fuck all the tricks and the gimmicks, you like a new white supremacist / Say the same fuckin’ sentences / Ni**a, you ain’t no lyricist.”

He also makes reference to Eminem’s Machine Gun Kelly diss. “I bet you never thought the killshot would come from the Cannon,” he adds.
Nick teamed up with Suge Knight on his first diss track, “The Invitation,” which came after Em reignited their beef on Fat Joe’s “Lord Above.”
Em has yet to respond to Nick’s pair of diss tracks, but he did address the NCredible mogul on Twitter after he accused him of engaging in oral sex on “The Invitation.”
“U mad bro? Stop lying on my dick. I never even had a chauffeur, you bougie f*ck,” tweeted Em before adding, “I demand an apology Nicholas, you’ve made my gardener so jealous!”
Nick challenged his rival to a rap battle on his MTV show “Wild N Out,” tweeting, “Fuck Apologies! Pull Up!! Bring your gardener, chauffeur, your male nurse and whoever else you’re fucking!!”
Obie Trice threw his support behind Em with his “Spanky Hayes” diss, while 50 Cent defended his longtime friend. “I don’t understand to save my life why someone would pick a fight with EM. He is a different kinda animal,” said 50. “I haven’t seen a motherfucker come close to beating him man.”
#TRAGIC: A Jersey City Police Officer, 3 Civilians and 2 Suspects Dead in Jersey City Shootout!
A police officer and three civilians were killed during a shootout in Jersey City which also left the two suspects dead, law enforcement officials said.
According to senior law enforcement officials, the Tuesday afternoon shootout began when a detective saw a U-Haul truck possibly linked to the murder of a livery driver over the weekend in Bayonne. As the officer approached, a suspect got out of the van to shoot the officer before taking off.
That officer, later identified as Det. Joseph Seals, died from his injuries. The preliminary investigation suggests the 39-year-old father of five was killed "while trying to interdict the bad guys" at a cemetery on Garfield Avenue, said Jersey City Police Chief Michael Kelly.
Seals had been a police officer for more than 15 years, and was with the Jersey City Police Department since 2006, officials said at a press conference Tuesday evening outside Jersey City Medical Center. He was a detective with the Cease Fire Unit, Kelly said.
Kelly said Seals was the department's leading police officer in removing guns from Jersey City streets.
After shooting the officer, the suspects — a man and a woman, according to law enforcement sources — fled and drove their U-Haul truck to the Jersey City Kosher Supermarket on Martin Luther King Drive, where the standoff started around 12:30 p.m., a senior law enforcement official said.
Law enforcement sources told NBC New York surveillance video shows the duo shoot a Hasidic man on the street and then run into the store, where they began firing at the victims inside. The suspects were armed with long guns and plenty of ammo, and had a bomb-making materials inside the truck, officials said.
"Our officers were under fire for hours," Kelly said, adding: "Two more police officers were hit by gunfire. One sustained an injury to the shoulder, one sustained another injury to the body. Those officers have since been released from the hospital."
A fusillade of at least 100 bullets were fired during the exchange between the suspects and police.
In addition to the officers injured outside the store, three other civilians inside were killed as the suspects saw heavily armed police vehicles approaching. Two of the victims were customers at the store and the third was working as a cashier, according to a representative of the community.
Another civilian was injured but is expected to survive, officials said.
Citing the preliminary investigation, Kelly said authorities believe the civilians killed inside the store were killed by the "bad guys." The suspects have not yet been identified, but one was a 48-year-old man, law enforcement sources said.
Law enforcement officials initially believed the incident was not terror- or hate-related, despite it occurring in a Jewish neighborhood. However, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop tweeted later in the night that the "the active shooters targeted the location they attacked." He added that there are no further threats, but the community "may see additional police resources" in the coming days and weeks.
The shootout was still being treated as a criminal act, law enforcement officials said.
It was not immediately known why or how the U-Haul truck that Det. Seals approached was linked to the death of livery driver Michael Rumberger.
Tight security was evident at Jersey City Medical Center, where police responded en masse as local law enforcement groups sought prayers on behalf of their colleagues.
Heavily armed local and state officers in SWAT trucks swarmed the scene, ducking behind doorways and store entrances -- some even crawling along sidewalks, closely pressed to the ground -- as they zeroed in on the store. Seemingly dozens of gunshots continued to ring out throughout the afternoon, based on audio from the scene.
The streets in the immediate area were closed off entirely, totally empty of what would normally be heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
According to Kelly, citing the preliminary investigation, it will take weeks for authorities to finish the probe due to the extensive crime scene, which includes at least three different locations.
The other two locations that most be combed through for evidence is the grocery store itself and the cemetery, Kelly said.
Federal ATF and FBI agents in Newark confirmed they responded to the scene to assist as needed, as was the NYPD's Special Ops team. About a dozen schools in the vicinity were locked down initially. By 2 p.m., the lockdown order extended to every public school in the entire city, the district's superintendent said.
The schools, including an elementary school right across the street from the store where the suspects holed up, remained on lockdown until around 4:30 p.m.
Some parents were upset the schools sent out robocalls during the lockdown saying it had been lifted before 4:15 p.m., but students were still not released for more than a half hour later.
Public Safety Director James Shea commended first responders.
"The police department was immediately on the scene interjecting," Shea said. "Most active shooters end when the police arrive. In this case, one of our officers gave his life immediately trying to prevent what subsequently occurred. Two more officers were shot trying to prevent it and the Jersey City Police Department continued to respond and engage those people to minimize any possible of damage."
Andy Patel works at a liquor store about three blocks away from the site of the shooting site and said there had been consistent gunfire fire for about an hour. There was a brief pause -- and cops used the time to clear streets.
It's like firecrackers going off. They were shooting like crazy about an hour ago. Then it stopped for like 20 or 30 minutes.
President Trump has been briefed on the situation, the White House said, and he later tweeted that "thoughts & prayers are w/ the victims & their families during the very difficult & tragic time."
"Our hearts break for the family of the fallen @jcpolicedept officer and for the entire law enforcement family. Today's tragic events serve as a stark reminder of how our brave first responders stand ready to run to danger at a moment's notice to keep us safe."
The incident is being investigated by the Hudson County prosecutor's office, with FBI and ATF agents working alongside police as they try to find a possible motive for the attack.
#NewCoupleAlert? Common & Tiffany Haddish?
One of our favorite woke couples has allegedly broken up again! According to TheYBF Monday (Dec. 9), Common and Angela Rye might not be together anymore. Rumors of a split have sparked again after Angela Rye was spotted at several events, like her 40th birthday party and the opening for Tyler Perry Studios without her on-again-off-again boyfriend in tow. Meanwhile, Common has been spotted out and about with actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish. The two have reportedly hung out in New York City on multiple occasions. Interestingly enough, he was seen at Tiffany Haddish’s Black Mitzvah birthday celebration earlier this month.
He was also at an intimate birthday celebration with her family and friends.
They were even posted up with legendary actor Harry Belafonte Monday (Dec. 9).
This isn’t the first time rumors have claimed they were dating. Speculation of a romance also started during his previous break with Angela Rye.
Common and the CNN analyst first went public with their relationship in 2017. They then confirmed breakup rumors in March 2018. But then it was clear they both wanted that old thing back because they confirmed they were dating again in August.
Hmmmmmmm!
Cuba Gooding Jr. accused by seven more women of sexual misconduct!
Seven more women have accused actor Cuba Gooding Jr. of forcible touching or sexual misconduct, according to a motion filed by prosecutors Monday in New York City.
Gooding, 51, faces three misdemeanor counts of forcible touching and three misdemeanor counts of sexual abuse involving incidents with three women, who allege the actor groped them without their consent. He has pleaded not guilty.
In court documents released in October, a dozen other women also accused Gooding of either inappropriately touching them or kissing them, though those allegations did not form the basis of additional charges against the actor.
In Monday's filing from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, seen by NBC News, seven more women are telling similar stories. Along with the three women whose allegations form the basis of the criminal charges, this brings the number of alleged victims accusing Gooding of misconduct to 22.
Prosecutors seek to introduce these additional accusers as evidence of Gooding's alleged "intent to gratify himself sexually" and a "lack of mistake or accident on his part." The court has not yet decided whether these additional seven women will be permitted to testify.
Gooding's lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, said the new accusations were "ancient and outdated and lacking in details."
"Cuba Gooding, Jr. has and does deny all allegations of criminal conduct — unfortunately, people come out of the woodwork, making false allegations against Cuba," Heller said in a statement.
One woman said she was at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, in 2009 when Gooding kissed her without consent and, after she pushed him away, touched her so forcefully near her crotch that her tights ripped, according to the court documents. She was only able to get away after biting him on the cheek.
Another woman who refused Gooding's advances said the actor put his hands inside her pants and grabbed her buttocks and told her: “I know you want to be an actress; I can ruin you.”
Many of the seven women from Monday’s motion say Gooding kissed them without their consent, on the mouth or cheek. One woman accuses him of licking her cheek after she tried to avoid his kiss. Another woman says Gooding told her and a friend that they were going to urinate on him. During a future encounter, he told the same woman, "you’re going to sit on my face, pee in my mouth and pee all over me."
Monday’s court filing sought to use the new allegations to portray a pattern of behavior.
"Similar to the first dozen incidents, these additional incidents each demonstrate that the defendant routinely approaches women while at bars or nightclubs with whom he has limited or no prior interaction, and touched them inappropriately," prosecutors said.
Prosecutors noted in court documents that Gooding's legal team dismissed his actions as "common place gestures" that were "misperceived" because of a "hyper-sensitive" environment.
The district attorney’s office contended: "Touching a woman with the intent to gratify one’s self sexually or to degrade her is not innocent or common place behavior.”
Gloria Allred, who has represented several women in high-profile sexual misconduct cases, said Tuesday that she is representing a number of the new accusers. The attorney said that the women are willing to testify if the court allows them to speak at trial.
Beyonce's Father Mathew Knowles Says She & Kelly Rowland Were Sexually Harassed by members of the R&B Group Jagged Edge!
Beyonce‘s father Mathew Knowles is making some serious allegations. The father of the Lemonade superstar spoke out in an interview with Vlad TV to promote his latest book.
In the interview, Mathew claimed that both Beyonce and fellow Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland were victims of sexual harassment by two members of the group Jagged Edge, which took place allegedly while the two acts were on tour in the early 2000s.
“Now, remember the girls are minors. They’re 16-years-old. The guys are 21, 22-years-old. I have a fiduciary duty with minors, by the law, there’s a certain way I have to manage that,” he said.
“I got a call from Kelly and Beyoncé, and I talk about this in the book in detail, saying that they were constantly being harassed by two of the members of Jagged Edge. I couldn’t have that. I literally had to put the guys off the bus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. That began all of this drama,” he went on to explain.
When asked how a father dealt with men trying to sleep with his daughter, he said: “We won’t talk about that on camera.”
None of the parties involved in the allegations have yet to comment on Mathew‘s statements

#YANKEES! The New York Yankees, Gerrit Cole agree to record 9-year, $324M deal!
Prized free-agent pitcher Gerrit Cole and the New York Yankees have agreed to a record nine-year, $324 million contract, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
The deal includes an opt-out after five years, according to Passan, and it also has a full no-trade clause, sources told ESPN. It surpasses the deal Stephen Strasburg finalized with the Washington Nationals on Monday for most total money and annual average salary for a pitcher, at $36 million.
Cole, 29, the runner-up to teammate Justin Verlander for the AL Cy Young Award, was dominant in 2019, posting a 20-5 record in the regular season as the Houston Astros led the majors with 107 wins.
The hard-throwing right-hander set an Astros record by winning his last 16 regular-season decisions and topped the AL with a career-best 2.50 ERA. His career-high 326 strikeouts were the most in the majors and broke an Astros franchise record that had stood since 1979, when J.R. Richard fanned 313.
Cole had only one loss after May 22. That came in Game 1 of the World Series against the Nationals, but he redeemed himself with a stellar outing in Game 5. In the postseason, Cole went 4-1 with a 1.72 ERA in 36⅔ innings.
Cole grew up a Yankees fan and attended several games at the old Yankee Stadium. He said before Game 3 of the ALCS that his favorite players were Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman visited Cole and his wife, Amy, in California last week, bringing along manager Aaron Boone, new pitching coach Matt Blake and special adviser Andy Pettitte.
Team owner Hal Steinbrenner was directly involved in some of the talks, speaking with Cole's agent, Scott Boras, by phone, and it was his decision to push the offer from an eighth year to a ninth year, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney. The Los Angeles Dodgers were heavily involved, and were perceived by some executives to be the second-place finisher. The Los Angeles Angels' offer may have fallen short of the $300 million threshold.
Passan reported last week that signing Cole was the Yankees' top offseason priority and that Cashman had ownership-level approval to offer a record-setting deal.
"I think we all understand we have a special team that's hopefully in the middle of a chance to do some great things," Boone said from the winter meetings. "Any time you're talking about a player the caliber of Gerrit Cole, and knowing what he can potentially mean to our club, it's no surprise that we are as invested as we are in pursuing him."
New York has not won the World Series since 2009 and sought an ace to head a rotation that includes Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, James Paxton, J.A. Happ and Domingo German, who might be suspended at the season's start under baseball's domestic violence policy.
Cashman executed the move out of the same playbook he used after the 2008 season, when he gave CC Sabathia a $161 million, seven-year deal to lead a staff and establish a clubhouse presence.
Cole will join a Yankees team with a young core of hitters that includes Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres and Gary Sanchez, entering a window in which New York thinks it can compete consistently for championships.
Gerrit Cole and the Yankees have agreed to a nine-year, $324 million contract, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan. Here's a look at where it ranks in MLB history, based on total value:
Cole was drafted by the Yankees out of high school with the 28th pick in the first round in 2008, but he chose to go to UCLA. Then he was drafted first overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates three years later. He finished fourth in NL Cy Young Award voting in 2015 and earned the first of his three All-Star selections that season, but he was less effective in his other four seasons in Pittsburgh.
After five seasons with the Pirates, Cole was traded to the Astros in January 2018 in exchange for pitchers Joe Musgrove and Michael Feliz, third baseman Colin Moran and outfielder Jason Martin. In his two seasons with Houston, armed with a revitalized four-seam fastball and improved mechanics in which he left fewer pitches out of the strike zone, Cole went 35-10 with a 2.68 ERA and 602 strikeouts -- good for 12.1 WAR.
FanGraphs' pitch values had Cole's fastball as the most valuable in the majors last season, and his slider was in the top 10.
Despite Cole's natural talent, Houston Astros manager AJ Hinch said during the postseason that the pitcher's "biggest strength is his mind."
Cole finished fifth in AL Cy Young voting in 2018. In his seven MLB seasons, he has a 94-52 record with a 3.22 ERA and 1,336 strikeouts in 1,195 innings. His ratio of 10.062 strikeouts per nine innings ranks sixth among active players and eighth all time.

Jordyn Woods Passes Lie Detector Test With Flying Colors, Proves She Did Not Have Sex With Tristan Thompson!
Nearly 10 months after the Jordyn Woods and Tristan Thompson scandal was first divulged to the world, Jada Pinkett Smith is now releasing never before seen footage from her telling interview with Jordyn Woods on her Facebook Watch talk show, Red Table Talk.
During Monday’s special “Ask Us Anything” episode, Pinkett Smith confirmed that Woods requested to take a lie detector test during her tell-all interview in an effort to prove that she, in fact, had not slept with NBA superstar, Tristan Thompson earlier this year.
“Jordyn did take a lie detector test … it was Jordyn’s request,” Pinkett Smith revealed. “It was her request to be here, and it was her request to take the lie detector test. We had a forensic polygraphist with more than 25 years of experience in criminal and civil investigations.”
Though the footage of the test being administered was shown on the special, that aspect had not been aired on the show back in March. Pinkett Smith made it clear that the polygraph test was not meant to draw in ratings for the show.
“It wasn’t for this show — it was for [Woods] and for people that she loves,” she reassured.
Woods chose to sit down with Red Table Talk after rumors began to surface in February that Tristan Thompson had cheated on his then-girlfriend, Khloe Kardashian, with Woods. At the time, the story was extra poignant, considering that Woods had been extremely close to the Kardashian-Jenner family, as her best friend was Kylie Jenner. Woods confessed that Tristan had indeed kissed her at a party. However, that was as far as it went.
Woods sat down with certified polygraphist, Shon Thurman. When asked ”Did you have sexual intercourse with Tristan Thompson?”, Woods answered, “No.” After the test was complete, Thurman told Woods, “I thought you did a fantastic job. You definitely passed, and I believe you’re being truthful in the test.”
Pinkett Smith also corroborated the test results, “She passed with flying colors,” adding that, “No matter what’s out there, there’s always more.” As her mother continued, “Exactly, and while you pointing a finger, there’s three fingers pointing back at you.”
Cardi B shows up at Queens court dripping in feathers!
The rapper arrived for a hearing in her assault case wrapped in a black feathered coat with a humongous hood — and a swath of cloth dragging behind her that would put even a wedding dress train to shame. Her outerwear, appropriately dubbed the “Queen’s Coat,” is by Adrienne Landau and retails for $2,995.
The hip-hop star was also wearing a white button-up shirt, thin black tie, black pants and Louis Vuitton boots with black stockings underneath. Her long nails were painted a light green.
She was accompanied by a healthy entourage of male handlers — including the two needed to help her get her massive coat back on after the brief hearing.
The “Bodak Yellow” performer is accused of tossing a hookah and bottles of Champagne at two bartending sisters in a Queens strip joint in 2018, as well as plotting a beat-down with the aid of hired help — allegedly because she suspected one of the women was sleeping with her rapper husband Offset.
During Tuesday’s hearing, her lawyers argued that they still needed copies of Instagram postings by her accusers that the attorneys said they believe could be relevant to the case. The lawyers urged law enforcement to help get the records. The attorneys would not comment to The Post when asked later about the content of the postings.
Prosecutors are refusing to help get the posts, saying they are not relevant.
The judge said he had already subpoenaed Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, for them but was denied. He said his jurisdiction is limited because the company is based in California. He said he would continue the discussion at a future hearing.
Cardi B left court without commenting. Facebook and Instagram did not immediately return requests for comment.
A date for Cardi B’s next court appearance has yet to be set, but it will be after mid-January, her camp said.
Lauren London Debuts New 'Forever Stronger' Collab With Puma!
Lauren London is carrying the torch left by her life partner Nipsey Hussle. Picking up where the late rapper and activist left off, the 35-year-old actress unveiled her new collab with Puma — the brand Nipsey was preparing to launch a collab with at the time of his death — sharing an emotional announcement video and multiple shots of her upcoming collection to Instagram on Tuesday (December 10).
The collaboration, which is appropriately titled "Forever Stronger," is one Puma described as "a creative vision Lauren wanted to bring to life to signify the continuation of her marathon alongside Puma," which is perfectly captured in the "Forever Stronger" campaign video.
As Lauren recites a poem written by Nipsey's younger sister, Samantha Smith, she is shown in various locations throughout her and Nipsey's beloved hometown of Los Angeles. "There is nothing to hide here. No way to pretend. We relate, we disagree, we disengage. We are running into each other. We are the song that writes itself," Lauren narrates as paintings and tributes to Nipsey are shown on almost every street corner. "The melody replays in the key of elevated living. We forget the words, we never forget the feeling."
"Glory and divinity conduct our symphony. We are infinite affinity, wrapped in sacred epiphany," she continues. "We are meant for we. We are flowing. We are growing. We are open like the red sea. We walk through with confident uncertainty. We kneel here. We heal here. We open our hearts to the heavens. We use our tears to cleanse our canvas. The fear floods us. The love is electric. Self-inflicted pain. We dance in the rain, 'til the fear is drained, 'cause pain is the light. Pain is insight. The body hurts, but the spirit grows. The flesh is starving while wisdom overflows. I got a question, only Lord knows: Does life birth us twice? "
The three-and-a-half-minute video concludes with a shot of Lauren standing alone on the same street she famously stood with Nipsey for their celebrated "California Love" photoshoot for GQ.
As fans know, Nipsey was preparing to launch his Puma x TMC collection at the time of his death. As a tribute to the late entertainer, Puma, with the blessing of Nipsey's family, dropped the collection in September, six months after Nip was murdered outside his Los Angeles clothing store.
