Chaka Khan to Be Honored at 'Variety' 2019 Power of Women!
Variety will honor Mariah Carey and Chaka Khan, among several other women, at its 2019 Power of Women Luncheon. Six hundred guests are invited to attend the event, which will take place Oct. 11 at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons.
The publication’s commitment to hiring more women for its cover shoots resulted in Peggy Sirota shooting this year’s Power of Women cover featuring the six honorees. The effort will lead to more women being hired for cover shoots throughout the year.
This year’s Power of Women issue will contain a feature celebrating Lifetime Television’s 35th anniversary as well as the annual Women’s Impact Report, a report highlighting 50 women in the entertainment industry dedicated to making a lasting impact.
“Since its inception, the Power of Women has been a celebration of female empowerment, philanthropy and the commitment to progress being made by the professionals of our industry every day. We are so proud that the event continues on as a beacon of positivity in these challenging times,” said Variety editor-in-chief Claudia Eller.

Tonight on Empire, Lucious is seen getting shot by someone in the future and falling thru a glass table, then cuts to Cookie getting taped up to a chair by Damon as he seems the laptop Lucious stole.
While at the hospital with Terri and the baby Andre is visited by his brothers ghost to discuss taking Empire completely over from Lucious. Maya and Tiana argue over comments she made on he ig feed about Andres baby.
Her fans feel she is being processed life and tells Maya to stay in her lane, Taina explains how grateful she is to have her son Prince since she was pregnant with twins and her daughter died only leaving her with Prince, she says she is standing by what she said about all life mattering.
Becky is in the studio with her artist and her singing has not gotten any better and she panicks then decides to get a vocal trainer for $10,000. Damon calls Lucious holding Cookie ransom for the laptop or he will kill her, Lucious seems unmoved and doesn’t budge to save her, he plans to use the laptop to save himself and ear his name with the Feds.
Andre goes to his doctor to adjust his medication to stop his hallucinations. Damon interrogates Cookie on her intentions of her spying on him wondering was it for Lucious and she admits finally that even after all Lucious has put her thru and his selfish ways she loves him.
This sends Damon off the edge and he becomes more aggressive after Cookie says them hooking up was a mistake, Damon decided to go after Lucious grandkids since he doesn’t care enough to come save Cookie, this scares her as she vows to kill Damon if he touches her grandkids.
Cookie attempts to escape from Damon and calls him bluff as he cocks his gun to shoot her in the back as she heads towards the door, he shoots and she falls to the ground, he only grazes her leg though.
While Beckys cousin is visiting they argue over Becky struggling and not helping their parents out, then her cousin offers her a business offer to make more income which would require Becky to launder money for him.
Cookie ears with Damon not to kill her grandkids but to take her life instead,as he is about to do that Lucious calls Damon to make a deal instead. Andre continues to have hallucinations of his dead brother Kingsley while at the hospital. Becky and Donna argue over why she would consider laundering money for their cousin, they hash out their long drawn childhood issues and they hash out their issues and Donna offers money to help Becky and her record label.
Damon,Cookie and Dsmon meet in public for an exchange for the laptop, as he’s about to hand it to Damon he throws the laptop in the middle of the street and a bus runs over it, they escape into a cab.
Cookie then reveals she has stolen a sim from Damon’s phone and blackmails the federal prosecutor to drop all charges against Lucious or they will expose her to the press for taking donations from Damon for her to go after Lucious in exchange for donations to her political campaign.

During an interview with Ebro Darden on Apple Music’s Beats 1 last month, Yung Miami said she and JT plan to hit the studio to record a new album, which will arrive in spring 2020.
“JT coming home this month,” said Miami. “When she come home we’re working on another album that we’re gonna drop hopefully for spring break. She gotta come home. We gotta record.”
In June 2018, JT started serving a 24-month prison sentence for charges related to felony identity theft. She will have to complete one year of probation following her release.

Lil’ Kim Gets Harassed For Wearing Fur, Steps To Woman Who Shouted At Her!
Lil’ Kim was confronted by someone who clearly isn't a fan of her decision to wear fur.
On Tuesday (Oct. 8), while on a promo run to promote her upcoming 9 album, Kim was harassed by presumed animal activists waiting outside in front of Verizon’s Build Studios in New York City. The rap veteran was there to do a scheduled interview with the Build Series online show.
In an Instagram video posted by IG user Scootercaster, a woman is holding up a sign and yelling at Kim to stop wearing fur. “Animals get electrocuted. Lil’ Kim stop wearing fur!,” she screams at the rapper.
One of the rapper’s handlers manages to rip up the sign but the protester continues to aggressively approach Lil' Kim. When the activist gets close, Kim stands her ground and tells her to back up. Thankfully, Kim's bodyguard steps in before things escalate any further.
“Shame on you for wearing fur, stop wearing fur” the activist continues to scream at Kim, as the Brooklyn looks on undeterred by the woman's pleas.
Lil Kim, who received the I Am Hip Hop Award at the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards on Saturday, wasn't injured during the confrontation and was able to enter the building.

Bernie Sanders' daughter-in-law, a native of Burgettstown, dies at 46 after cancer diagnosis!
The daughter-in-law of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders has died, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. Rainè Riggs was 46.
The Lee & Martin Funeral Home in Burgettstown, Pa., says Riggs died Saturday, the day Mr. Sanders returned to Vermont after suffering a heart attack. Her obituary said she was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer.
Ms. Riggs, a neuropsychologist, was married to Levi Sanders, who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2018. Ms. Riggs’ obituary says she met Levi Sanders while the two worked at an emergency food shelter in Vermont.
The obituary said Riggs was the director of behavioral medicine at Dartmouth Medical School for several years, and she started the Palliative Care Department for Dartmouth Medical Center. She also owned Riggs Geriatric Psychology in Windsor, Vt.
A recuperating Bernie Sanders says he may slow down his campaign’s pace
Ms. Riggs was born Dec. 23, 1972, and graduated as valedictorian of her class from Burgettstown High School in 1990, according to her obituary. She studied at American, Harvard and Brown universities before earning her doctorate in neuropsychology at the University of Vermont.
The obituary said she became ill three weeks ago and the hospitals “were stumped.” She came to Pittsburgh and was diagnosed at UPMC with neuroendocrine cancer and died days later.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Sunnee, Ryleigh and Grayson, and her parents, Richard and Rinda Riggs of Avella. Services will be private.
Todd and Julie Chrisley Settle State Tax Fraud Allegations in Georgia!
One legal headache down! Todd and Julie Chrisley recently settled charges that they evaded nearly $2 million in state taxes. A spokesman for the couple, who star with their children on the USA reality shows Chrisley Knows Best and Growing Up Chrisley, announced the development in a press release on Tuesday, October 8.
Todd, 50, and Julie, 46, had been accused of owing more than $2.1 million in unpaid state taxes, penalties and interest to the Georgia Department of Revenue from the tax years between 2008 and 2016. With the settlement signed on September 27, however, the department agreed that the Chrisleys owed unpaid taxes for one year, owed nothing for four years, and even overpaid for four other years.
Under the terms of the settlement, the reality TV couple agreed to pay $150,000, according to the Associated Press.
“Julie and I knew all along that we had done nothing wrong and that when the facts all came out, we would be fine,” Todd said in the press release. “We’re just glad that the Department of Revenue was willing to keep an open mind and look at all the evidence.”
The couple still faces federal tax evasion charges, to which they pleaded not guilty, and their representation in the federal cast remains optimistic. “We have maintained from day one that there has not been any tax evasion by our clients Todd and Julie Chrisley,” attorney Bruce H. Morris of Finestone, Morris & White said in the press release. “This settlement with the state is a big step in the direction of proving their innocence.”

Todd informed Instagram followers of his legal trouble in August, one day before a federal grand jury issued a 12-count indictment against the couple. In the post, the real estate guru claimed that a fired employee, wanting “to get revenge,” took “phony documents” to the U.S. Attorney’s office and claimed the Chrisleys had committed financial crimes.
“I’m telling you all this now because we have nothing to hide and have done nothing to be ashamed of,” Todd added. “Not only do we know we’ve done nothing wrong, but we’ve got a ton of hard evidence and a bunch of corroborating witnesses that proves it.”
On top of the tax evasion charges, Todd and his son Chase Chrisley faced extortion accusations from Lindsie Chrisley, Todd’s daughter from his prior marriage, in July. In a police report obtained by E! News, the 30-year-old claimed that Todd and Chase, 23, “wanted her to lie about an incident” and that they threatened to release an alleged sex tape involving her.
In a statement to E! News in August, Todd denied Lindsie’s allegations and claimed that she had had affairs with two Bachelorette alums. “It’s heartbreaking and shameful that these kinds of accusations have to be aired in public,” he said in the statement. “We have tried to keep Lindsie’s extramarital relationships with Robby Hayes and Josh Murray [during her marriage to Will Campbell] private for her sake since August of 2016,” he said in the statement. “Sadly, for reasons we can only guess at, she ran to the sheriff’s office to accuse her brother of buying a sex tape of her and Robby, which was a complete lie, and now she’s telling more lies about me.”
He added, “Although our hearts are broken, Lindsie is our daughter and we will always love her.”

She may playfully act like she doesn’t know who Jennifer Lopez is but Mariah Carey is really for the sisterhood. The best-selling music icon is one of the boldfaced names being honored this year in Variety's Power of Women issue.
In a video interview with the outlet, the “Vision of Love” diva took the opportunity address competition among women when asked what needs to change in the industry.
She also cited the longtime record label rivalry with late pop icon Whitney Houston, who Carey always said she admired.
“What has to change in our industry the most? One of the things is the pitting of women against each other,” Carey told Variety.
“There was the situation where, when I started, everyone was like, 'Oh, her and Whitney [Houston], let’s put them against each other and blah, blah, blah,” she recalled. “We didn’t know each other! And she was one of the greatest of ALL TIME.”
“And then we finally did a duet together that won an Oscar,” the five-time Grammy Award winner continued. “We had the best time working together. It was female camaraderie. We both got it.”
“We were like, ‘She doesn’t hate me...we’re actually having this great time together and laughing and this is more fun than I have working alone, ever’ So I think camaraderie with women that you respect is a huge deal.”
The two singers, who were two of the biggest selling pop singers during the 1990s, joined forces for “When You Believe,” the lead song for the 1998 animated film “Prince of Egypt” co-written and produced by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds.
Mocking their so-called rivalry, Carey and Houston appeared at the 1998 Video Music Awards in the same matching one-of-a-kind gowns to create a great marketing moment for the single, which was released months later.
Matt Lauer's Accuser Comes Forward in Ronan Farrow's Book, Says He Raped Her!
The woman who previously anonymously accused Matt Lauer of sexual misconduct has come forward in a new book by Ronan Farrow.
Brooke Nevils, a former NBC News employee, has provided in-depth details of her alleged encounter with Lauer at the Sochi Olympics in 2014. She says that she was anally raped by the former Today host in his hotel room, according to excerpts from “Catch and Kill” provided to Variety.
At the time, Nevils was working with former Today co-anchor Meredith Vieira and the two of them ran into Lauer at the hotel bar. She says that Lauer took her press credential as a joke and she went back to his hotel room to retrieve it. She then went back to the hotel room again after he invited her back, expecting a friendly experience.
Nevils says that when she arrived back in the hotel room that Lauer pushed her against the door and kissed her. He then allegedly pushed her onto the bed and asked if she likes anal sex, which she “declined several times.” Farrow writes in his book that Lauer “just did it.”
“Lauer, she said, didn’t use lubricant. The encounter was excruciatingly painful. ‘It hurt so bad. I remember thinking, Is this normal?’ She told me she stopped saying no, but wept silently into a pillow,” Farrow wrote in the book. He says that she “bled for days.” Nevils said, “It was nonconsensual in the sense that I was too drunk to consent. It was nonconsensual in that I said, multiple times, that I didn’t want to have anal sex.”
Nevils says that she had more sexual encounters with Lauer when they arrived back in New York City and that she was terrified of the control that he had over her career.

Kanye West’s Pastor Details the Rapper’s Journey Into Christian Faith, Reveals West Only Wants To Do Gospel Music Moving Forward!
Kanye West’s pastor says the rapper is “walking with God.” Adam Tyson is West’s pastor, who has been helping the Chicago native orchestrate his “Sunday Service” across the nation. In an interview, Tyson detailed some of West’s newfound faith. “He is living and walking with God,” Tyson told “The Pure Flix Podcast,” mentioning that he has seen a difference in the rapper. “He’s in the Bible. He’s in prayer,” Tyson said.
Tyson leads the congregation of Placerita Bible Church in Santa Clarita, California, and said West no longer allows cursing around him and has confirmed that he only wants to do gospel music moving forward. Tyson said the two made a bond after meeting at his church back in May. During their friendship, Tyson said West revealed that he’d recently become a Christian. “[West said], ‘I was just under the weight of my sin, and I was being convicted that I was running from God, and I knew I needed to make things right, so I came to Christ — I came out of darkness and came into the light,'” Tyson recounted.
The pastor said the two’s first meeting was three hours long, and in their talk, Tyson went through the gospel and explained “that Christ came to die” for sinners and that “by repenting and believing in him we can have eternal life.” West reportedly told Tyson, “I told you I’ve been radically saved. I believe that message, and I want to get that message out to the world.” That’s when Tyson said he became committed to helping West find his way into the Christian faith. “[I told him], ‘As long as you’re professing Christ and living for him, I’m here to help you,'” he said.
In addition to Sunday Service, Tyson also hosts Tuesday Bible studies with West and his staff in Cody, Wyoming, where West now lives, according to CBN news. “He’s so excited about studying the Bible,” he said. “How can you say no?”
T.I. Explains Why Nicki Minaj Isn't On His All-Time Greatest Rappers List!
T.I.'s list of top "50 Greatest Rappers Of All Time" does not include Nicki Minaj.
Last month, the Atlanta rapper dropped his list of greatest MCs and while it didn't make waves immediately, his recent discussion of it on his podcast —specifically the list's lack of female representation — sure did.
After T.I. and a group of his associates discussed the fact that the list was missing several referred female rappers, the conversation turned into a comparison of Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj.
"It's between Lil' Kim and Nicki," T.I. said of who's deserving of a spot on the list. "I don't think we can have both because they are a direct reflection of one another." Someone then added that Lil' Kim paved the way for Nicki.
"I can agree," T.I. responded, before adding, "[Nicki] is one of the biggest-selling artists of all time and I salute that [...] Impact, impact, impact."
The group then took a vote to see which rapper should take "the slot under Bun B." Surprisingly, everyone in the room raised their hands in agreement that it should be Lil' Kim, so, T.I. gave her the #28 spot.
Back in August, Tip dropped his list and explained that he created it based on artists' impact. "When it comes to the case of TOP 50 rap artists, here’s our list," read the caption of the list, which was shared to T.I.'s Trap Music Museum Instagram. "Based on the Rapper’s overall impact and influence to Rap culture. We aren’t JUST talking about best lyricist, most record sales, most streams, largest fan base or longevity, but we are talking about OVERALL IMPACT on this thing of ours."
Tiffany Haddish Stands By Her Stance To Never Work in Georgia Again!
Despite stopping in Georgia over the weekend to celebrate with Tyler Perry, Tiffany Haddish is standing by her commitment to never work in the state again if the controversial fetal heartbeat abortion law remains in place.
“I’m not working,” she told Extra at the opening gala of Tyler Perry Studios this weekend. “I am having fun… I might get pregnant, and then what?”
The comedian is sticking to a commitment that she made over the summer to boycott working in Georgia until the heartbeat bill is rescinded. The law, signed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp in May, effectively bans abortions after a baby’s heartbeat can be detected–which can be as early as six weeks.
In June, she cancelled her show at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre “until they withdraw Measure HB481.”
“After much deliberation, I am postponing my upcoming show in Atlanta,” the comedian and actress said in a statement then. “I love the state of Georgia, but I need to stand with women and until they withdraw Measure HB481, I cannot in good faith perform there.”
Last week, a federal judge in Georgia placed an injunction on the law – following the lead of other judges in states that have tried to enact restrictive abortion measures and keeping the law from taking effect while it’s being litigated, Georgia Public Broadcasting reports.
Nipsey Hussle Biography 'The Marathon Don’t Stop' On The Way!
An in-depth biography about Nipsey Hussle's life and legacy is in the works.
Music journalist Rob Kenner is currently writing The Marathon Don’t Stop: The Life and Times of Nipsey Hussle, a book that will feature "on-the-ground reporting and interviews" with the late rapper and activist's friends and family, Complex reports.
“The last time I spoke with Nipsey Hussle, he told me, ‘I ain’t outside giving out jewelry or dropping off bags of money on people, but I’m giving out game,'" Rob told Complex. "This book is my attempt to help fulfill that intention. The Marathon Don’t Stop will also place his accomplishments in proper historical context, giving Nipsey Hussle his rightful place in the history of hip-hop, Los Angeles, and America. It will include interviews with people who haven’t spoken before, as well as insights into the forces that shaped Hussle into the man he became."
He added, "Ultimately, though, this is a book about his life. My purpose is to lift up the best parts of Nipsey Hussle’s legacy so that they will live on and inspire others."
The esteemed hip-hop journalist, who's a founding editor of VIBE and whose work has also appeared in The New York Times, Complex, Billboard, and more also discussed what drove him to write a book dedicated to the late, great artist, whose tragic passing shocked the world. "I knew I wanted to write a book about Nipsey Hussle long before his tragic death," Rob shared. "The events of March 31 left me stunned just like the rest of those who cared about him. Since that time, there has been a tremendous outpouring of love for him around the world, but also a fair amount of misinformation and media spin from forces that underestimated him or saw him as a threat."
"I wanted to do my part to help set the record straight," he continued. "While this is not an authorized biography, I’ve decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from the book to Nipsey’s estate out of respect."
The biography is set to arrive on March 24, 2020, just one week shy of the one year anniversary of Nipsey's death.
