'Glamour' Crowns a New Group of Supermodels with September Issue Cover!
Glamour is highlighting the evolving look of the fashion industry by featuring five new supermodels on the cover of the mag’s September 2019 issue.
Senyabou Cissé, Iskra Lawrence, Alessandra Garcia Lorido, Yvonne Simone, and Solange van Doorn represent the body-positive and diverse fashion industry of today.
Alessandra and Iskra opened up about how “plus-size” models still cater to the smaller end.
“I’m a size 12,” Alessandra said. “I don’t represent girls that are size 22. I don’t know what that feels like, and I shouldn’t be speaking for them. I shouldn’t be representing them. I can represent myself; if they relate, if they are inspired by me, then great.”
Iskra added, “I can’t promise you that you’re [always] going to feel represented…So I want people to know if you can’t see yourself, you can still be it, you can still do it. You might need to be that representation.”

#Empire: Jussie Smollett’s Empire Character Is Being Banished to a Whole Other Continent!😑
Despite Empire leaving the narrative door open for Jussie Smollett to return after the criminal charges against him were dropped, his character, Jamal Lyons, will 100 percent not be appearing in the show’s final season. Instead, he’ll be luxuriating off-screen in everyone’s fourth-favorite island country: England! Empire showrunner Brett Mahoney confirmed to TVLine that Smollett’s character and his new husband, Kai, will take their honeymoon phase away from the mean, music-obsessed streets of New York City. “Jamal is taking a sabbatical from the family,” Mahoney explained. “He doesn’t want to be caught up in Lyon family drama, which is very much in keeping with his point of view last season — that the family business should be something that the family moves away from. Jamal and Kai have decided to stay in London.”
#MusicNews: BMI, Ray J, Eric Bellinger & More Pay Homage to Brandy at 2019 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards!🎹🎵🎤
A celebration of singer Brandy at the 2019 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards included an impromptu serenade by her brother Ray J and a quick performance by the honoree. The singer attended the awards show at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center just outside of Atlanta to receive the BMI President’s Award.
During the presentation Mike O’Neill, BMI President, praised Brandy for her musical accomplishments (including her record sales of more than 40 million albums and the record held by “The Boy Is Mine” as the No. 1 selling Atlantic Records single of all time), as well as her acting (Moesha, Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, Star and more) and Broadway (Chicago) work, and philanthropic efforts.
Jade Novah kicked off a musical tribute to Brandy, performing “Talk About Our Love,” the singer’s 2004 collaboration with Kanye West. Samoht then delivered a version of “Brokenhearted” (1995) that inspired Brandy to ask him to teach her some of his vocal runs. The tribute also included a performance of “Have You Ever” (1998) and "He Is” (2002) from Kierra Sheard, as well as “Baby” (1994) and “Nothing” (2002) from Eric Bellinger. Bellinger thanked Brandy for being the “vocal bible,” a title that followers have gifted the singer for her sharp melismas and soulful tone, on behalf of “sangers” during his performance: “Without you, we would be nothing.” Joining O’Neill and BMI vice president Catherine Brewton on stage, Brandy’s brother Ray J gave a quick, unexpected performance of “Best Friend,” the 1995 song penned about the close bond between the siblings.
Eliciting a standing ovation from the crowd, Brandy launched into an impromptu performance of “I Wanna Be Down” (1994) and “Almost” (1998) before giving a quick speech and thanking her parents who were in attendance. “I love you guys. All of the sacrifices and everything you’ve done for my life to continue to be what it is... I just appreciate you guys so very much.”
The singer shouted out collaborators Kipper Jones (“I Wanna Be Down”), LaShawn Daniels and Rodney Jerkins -- who penned songs such as “The Boy Is Mine” for the singer, among others, and were in cheering crowd at the event -- before teasing her new album, which is expected to be released later this year. “I’m looking forward to just singing all of my new songs and all of my songs together on every stage that I can possibly sing on. I’m ready for the world, are you guys?”
Following a DJ set from Mannie Fresh, the 2019 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards started off on a somber note with a tribute to the late rapper Nipsey Hussle. Attendees were asked to stand as Hussle’s “Last Time That I Checked” was played throughout the venue. “We are going to take care of his songs and his family,” O’Neill said following the tribute.
Atlanta rappers Gunna and Lil Baby then performed a medley that included their top 10 single “Drip Too Hard.” The pair were awarded a platinum plaque for the record shortly after the performance. “I feel like I’m just an artist [who is] just finally getting acknowledged,” Gunna said, acknowledging his parents who were in attendance.
Major winners included Drake’s “God's Plan” (R&B/hip-hop song of the year), Tay Keith, who tied with Post Malone for R&B/hip-hop songwriter of the year, and Wheezy Beatz for R&B/hip-hop producer of the year. Sony/ATV Music Publishing was awarded R&B/hip-hop publisher of the year.
The complete list of winners is available on BMI's website.
Mannie Fresh served as the DJ for the awards show, and Brewton and O’Neill served as the show’s co-hosts.
#HipHopNews: Kanye West To Release New Album ‘Jesus Is King’ Next Month!
Kim Kardashian took to Twitter on Thursday to reveal the tracklisting for what appears to be a new album from her husband Kanye West. The title “Jesus Is King” is written on a white piece of paper along with 12 religious-themed track titles including “God Is,” “Baptized,” “Selah,” and “Sweet Jesus.” The date September 27th is written at the bottom.
The album was seemingly inspired by Kanye’s weekly Sunday Service sessions, where he regularly performs gospel-tinged songs with a choir. One of the tracks listed is “Water,” which Ye debuted during his special Sunday Service performance at Coachella in April. The spiritual song includes the lyrics: “Let your light reflect on me / Take the chlorine out of conversation.”
It’s unclear if Kanye still plans to release his oft-delayed album Yandhi, which was originally set for release on Sept. 29, 2018, almost one year to the date of Jesus Is King. It will be Kanye’s first project since 2018’s ye.
The rapper has become extremely passionate about his faith. Earlier this year, it was reported that he was looking to open a permanent house of worship. He and Kim even named their youngest son Psalm, a biblical name that means a sacred song or hymn.

Walmart Will end all handgun ammunition sales, asks customers not to carry guns into stores! 💨💨💨💨🔫
Walmart on Tuesday announced it will reduce its gun and ammunition sales, one month after more than 20 people were killed in a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas. Walmart also pressured Congress to enact gun safety measures.
The company, America’s largest retailer, said it will stop selling handgun ammunition and ammunition for short-barrel rifles after selling all of its current inventory. Walmart will also stop selling handguns in Alaska, the only state where it still sells handguns. And Walmart will request that customers no longer openly carry guns into its 4,700 US stores, or its Sam’s Club stores, in states that allow open carry.
However, Walmart will continue to sell long barrel deer rifles and shotguns and much of the ammunition for those guns. Walmart will also continue to allow concealed carry by customers with permits in its stores.
In a memo to employees on Tuesday, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said Walmart’s changes were prompted by the El Paso, Texas, shooting, as well as recent mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and Midland and Odessa, Texas.
“In a complex situation lacking a simple solution, we are trying to take constructive steps to reduce the risk that events like these will happen again,” he said. “The status quo is unacceptable.”
Walmart represents about 2% of the market for guns today, the company said for the first time recently. Walmart believes it is not among the top three gun sellers in the industry, but it estimates it has about a 20% market share of ammunition sales.
On Tuesday, McMillon said that Walmart’s changes to ammunition policies will reduce its market share from around 20% to between 6% and 9%. “We believe it will likely drift toward the lower end of that range, over time, given the combination of these changes,” he said.
McMillion took pains to avoid alienating customers.
“We will treat law-abiding customers with respect, and we will have a very non-confrontational approach,” he said. “Our remaining assortment will be even more focused on the needs of hunting and sport shooting enthusiasts.”
In addition, McMillon said that he would send letters to the White House and congressional leaders that “call for action” on “common sense” gun safety measures. McMillon said Congress should debate re-authorizing the assault weapons ban and expand background checks.
“We encourage our nation’s leaders to move forward and strengthen background checks and to remove weapons from those who have been determined to pose an imminent danger,” he said. “Congress and the administration should act. Given our decades of experience selling firearms, we are also offering to serve as a resource in the national debate on responsible gun sales.”
Spurred by El Paso shooting
On August 4, a Walmart in El Paso was the scene of one of the worst mass shootings in American history. Federal investigators are treating the shooting as an act of domestic terrorism.
In the wake of the shooting, Walmart has faced enormous pressure to remove firearms from its physical stores and criticized for selling pro-gun T-shirts on its website. Several Democratic candidates for president have called on Walmart to stop selling guns at its stores. America’s largest teachers’ union, The American Federation of Teachers, and gun safety groups have pressed the retailer to end its gun sales.
Walmart previously pulled displays of violent video games in its stores and also removed about 1,000 third-party items from its website.

Forever 21 Reportedly Prepares For Bankruptcy Filing!😮
Forever 21 might be in trouble as the clothing retailer is reportedly eyeing bankruptcy, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday (August 28).
As per the report, the filing could leave the brand's more than 800 locations in limbo and that might be a problem for many of the malls across the United States, who devote space to the retailer. While the store has been in talks "for additional financing and working with a team of advisers to help it restructure its debt," the conversations have stalled and the focus has seemingly shifted towards securing a potential debtor-in-possession loan. Forever 21 is reportedly the sixth-largest tenant excluding department stories.
In short, the filing would help Forever 21 close unprofitable locations. The chain opened in 1984 and has stores in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Dwyane Wade And Pat Riley Dancing In Saint Tropez Is Hilarious!😆😁😃
Just retired Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade and Miami Heat president Pat Riley shook up social media with a clip of them dancing. (See the video below.)
But this wasn’t some black-tie affair in South Beach. That might make sense. It was on a yacht. In Saint Tropez. Wearing “Aladdin”-like costumes. And grooving to the Doobie Brothers’ “Listen to the Music.”
This belongs in the Hall of Fame of WTF. Riley, the intense former Lakers, Knicks and Heat coach, is 74 and judging from the Instagram clip, posted Sunday by Wade, he can chill now.
But wait, that wasn’t all. Actor and “America’s Got Talent” judge Gabrielle Union posted a clip of her dancing with husband Wade in which Riley briefly joins in. Then he stops to look at his phone. Maybe he’s trying to shore up the Heat lineup for next season?
The yacht soiree appears to have been part of Wade and Union’s fifth-anniversary celebration.

Nate Parker Issues An Apology For Being “Tone-Deaf” After Rape Allegations; Talks New Film And Spike Lee’s Support!
Actor and filmmaker Nate Parker is making a comeback after losing his Academy Award nomination for his directorial debut with “The Birth Of A Nation” in 2016, following the resurfacing of a 1999 rape charge.
Now, with a new film debuting at the Venice Film International Film Festival, Parker is ready to come clean and apologize for his response in 2016 as reported by the Associated Press.
“Standing here today at 39, the reality is I was quite tone-deaf … to a lot of the things that happened in the climate,” Parker said at a small news conference in Venice on Sunday. “My response obviously hurt a lot of people, frustrated and angered a lot of people, and I apologize.”
The actor was accused of sexual assault when he was a sophomore at Penn State University. Although he was acquitted, the incident reappeared in the news amid the release of “The Birth of a Nation,” a film critics for sure thought would win awards. However, Parker forfeited his winnings when he responded to the resurfaced allegations, saying he was “falsely accused” and had been “vindicated” by the court, during a time where Hollywood was heavy into the #MeToo era.
During the festival, Parker sat alongside Spike Lee and also discussed his new film, “American Skin” which he stars in as an ex-Marine who watches a police officer kills his unarmed 14-year-old son during a traffic stop. Once justice is not served, Parker’s character Lincoln Jefferson decides to take matters into his own hands. Parker was reportedly inspired to write the film after Michael Brown was killed in Ferguson, Missouri.
“I’m still learning and growing and still feeling the need to make films that speak to things that need to change in our country and the world,” Parker said. “And this topic was very dear to me.”
Lee also chimed in with his support of the film, offering support in any way possible, “I haven’t had a film that’s affected me this deeply in a while,” Lee said. “This is a very important film, and I wanted to be part of it … Art can affect people’s behavior, good or bad. And it is my hope that this film deals with the very serious problem with police and brown and black people in the United States of America.”
According to the AP, Lee had no reservations putting his name behind Parker’s.
“It’s a move forward. Nate is in here. He’s not hiding. He’s answering all questions,” Lee said. “This is only Nate’s second feature film, there’s a lot more in him.”
Parker’s intentions with the film are to open up every door for conversation possible, hoping viewers don’t see “American Skin” as pessimistic.
“I do have a lot of stories I want to tell because I feel like the world is broken,” Parker said, mentioning gun violence, indigenous people, and the plight of women globally as future themes to tackle. “It is my prayer that I’ll be able to tell more stories. All I can control is what I can control. And I hope moving forward that I get that opportunity.”
