The Daily Buzz For June 4 ☕πŸ“°☕

Zendaya for Paper Magazine June 2019
Zendaya is on the cover of the new issue of Paper magazine. The young actress is on the cover to promote her new series, Euphoria. Highlights from the issue are below.

On her new series: “The show to me is not that shocking. I know a lot of 17-year-olds that are going through this. We’re not more shocking than things that have happened in Game of Thrones. What is shocking is that we’re not used to seeing [young people’s experiences portrayed] so viscerally and so honestly.”

On dealing with anxiety: “I think definitely there’s been, at least amongst my peers, a certain [emphasis] on not just mental health but self-care and opening up to other experiences. That, in turn, makes you feel like you’re not alone if you are dealing with it. It makes you feel heard and not so isolated.”

On changing the industry: “There’s this misconstrued idea that once you make it, there’s only room for yourself. I disagree. Once you’re able to make room for yourself, you try to make as many freakin’ rooms as you can. I’m still in the beginning of my career and I don’t have all the power in the world, because at the end of the day, a lot of the power still lies with people who have been making stuff since before I was born, who are one narrative and one color. Now, it’s just about getting to that point where I can do that on my own. If I wait for things to happen, they might not ever happen.”
You can check out even more from her interview here. Euphoria premieres on HBO on June 16.

Moore teamed her jeans with a bright red crop top featuring a fringed layer at the front that falls onto her stomach. The cut of the top exposes Moore’s midsection, showing off her toned abs and slender waist.
In the boomerang, Moore is seen with her arms up by her head as she sways her hips side to side, creating a motion that further showcases her curves and slender physique. Moore is smiling big as she moves around flaunting the body she has been working hard toward.
The post, which Moore shared with her 1.6 million Instagram followers, was viewed more than 13,100 times in under an hour of having been posted, garnering about 2,000 likes and several dozen comments. Users of the social media platform who are fans of the reality TV star took to the comments section to praise her killer physique and share their admiration for Moore.
“So, I’ll look like that in those jeans?? Hold on, let me get my wallet!!” one user raved, adding a red heart emoji to the message.

Last week, the new mom shared that she had lost another 4 or 5 pounds just in time for summer as she promoted a meal replacement shake by Body Complete RX. In the post, Moore noted that has only a few pounds left to lose before she hits her goal weight ahead of the bikini months.

#EmpireStar: Lee Daniels  A ‘Star’ revival is officially DEAD!
Weeks after Fox pulled the plug on Star, co-creator Lee Daniels admitted Thursday that the show could not find a new home and will not be back, despite his best efforts.

Word was that Daniels was attempting to rustle up interest in fourth season of the musical drama with the likes of BET, OWN and Amazon, but clearly those efforts didn’t bear fruit.
The series about three female singers from very different backgrounds trying to make to the top of the charts and not get dragged down by their own baggage, was created by Daniels and Tom Donaghy. Like with Empire and most of his projects, Daniels used his character’s struggles, both professionally and personally, to delve into social and cultural issues like class, race, gender and sexuality.

Star debuted on December 14, 2016 with the Daniels co-created blockbuster Empire as its lead-in. During its run, the series had high rated crossovers with the Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard fronted mothership series, including the now ex-Empire star Jussie Smollett show up in Season 2 in his Jamal Lyon role.
Soon after the cancellation of Star was announced, newly minted Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier called the decision a “tough choice,” saying it was tied to the fact the network wanted to prioritize Empire as that show moves into its sixth and final season.

Of course the fact that during what is now its third and final season Star saw its ratings hover around 0.9 among the 18-49 demographic probably didn’t help check that renewal box either.

Last week, Daniels took to social media to share a message with the show’s loyal viewers. “To our die hard Star fans, please know this was not of my doing. Our cast and crew are heartbroken,” he wrote. Just two days ago, a shred of hope still seemed to exist for the Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, and Brittany O’Grady-led series when the Precious director went on social media to exclaim: “Fighting guys! Will know this week… or top of next! πŸ’«πŸ’«. “I’m NOT letting them STOP the CULTURE.. SORRY!!”
Showrun by now Mixed-ish boss Karin Gist the past two years, the increasingly downward rated Star also featured Queen Latifah, Amiyah Scott, Brandy Norwood and Quincy Brown in the main cast plus Lance Gross and a very well cast Benjamin Bratt.

#NewMusic from the Prince of Gospel Kirk Franklin Is back With His 13th Album ‘LONG LIVE LOVE’
After dropping singles "Love Theory" and most recently "OK," gospel artist Kirk Franklin blesses us with his latest album, LONG LIVE LOVE. The album marks his first full-length project since 2015's Losing My Religion. As with all of his albums, Franklin wastes no time getting down to celebrating and praising, kicking things off with the triumphant "F.A.V.O.R." Throughout its 14 tracks, LONG LIVE LOVE  blends traditional gospel music with R&B sensibilities, giving it a wide appeal for Franklin fans old and young.

He even incorporates a bit of New Orleans influence with the tail end of "Spiritual," transitioning into full-on party thanks to the second-line flavor added towards the end.Part of what makes Franklin's brand of gospel so appealing is his ability to cover a wide range of emotions and situations. There literally is a song for wherever you are in your life right now as he celebrates the power of the word while also encouraging listeners to keep their head up even when things may feel hopeless.

LISTEN AND STREAM HERE
His approach is clearly working since "Love Theory" has sat at the top spot of Billboard's Hot Gospel Songs for 17 weeks straight while also crossing over to the Adult R&B Songs where it currently holds the No. 4 spot. Even with 13 studio albums under his belt and 26 years in the game, Franklin insists that this album is just as important to him as his first saying, "Every album is my first album, the butterflies have never left." Take a listen to Franklin's labor of love and see if it doesn't leave you feeling blessed and highly favored.

#HipHopNews: The Blueprint! Jay-Z Is Officially The World's First Billionaire Rapper
Music’s most powerful couple has just gotten a little bit more powerful. According to Forbes, Jay-Z has just become the world’s first billionaire rapper. Jay-Z and wife BeyoncΓ© have long been an aspirational couple. The two have dominated the music industry for years, and while most have likely assumed the pair’s combined net worth to be extremely high, the news of Jay reaching billionaire status brings the power couple to a whole new level. So, how much is Jay-Z really worth—and how did he get his fortune?
As Forbes reports, Jay-Z (real name: Shawn Carter) has amassed a fortune that conservatively totals $1 billion, making him one of few entertainers that have ever become billionaires, as well as the first hip-hop artist to ever reach this landmark. But Jay-Z’s success lies in the fact that he is not exclusively a musician; his fortune spans several industries, from real estate to investments in companies like Uber, to the liquor and art industries.

Jay-Z’s story has humble beginnings. He grew up in the Marcy Projects, a public housing complex in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. Jay worked as a drug dealer before getting into music, but once he entered this business, his savvy decisions set him up for success early.
Jay-Z started his own record label, Roc-A-Fella Records, and released a long line of award-winning albums over the course of two decades. He learned early on that the best way to grow wealth was by creating and investing in his own brands instead of promoting someone else's. This logic led him to build his own clothing line, Rocawear, which launched in 1999 and sold for $204 million in 2007.

Today, Jay Z has stakes in several companies, including $310 million stakes in champagne brand Armand de Brignac and his cognac brand, D'UssΓ©. His investing portfolio includes stakes in Uber that were reportedly purchased for $2 million in 2013, and are now worth roughly $70 million.
In 2015, Jay also purchased and relaunched Tidal, which is now worth $100 million. His art collection is worth $70 million, and his real estate portfolio is worth another $50 million. Suffice it to say: Jay has been a pretty smart businessman.
Though he initially got his start in music and is now considered to be the world's very first billionaire rapper, Jay-Z's financial prowess has spanned far beyond the industry. And, it paid off: His diverse experiences and interests have allowed him to build an empire that now blows most other musicians’ net worths out of the water.

Kevin Spacey Makes Surprise Appearance in Court to Fight Sexual Assault Charges
Kevin Spacey showed up to court on Monday morning as his attorney fought to have the sexual assault case against the disgraced actor thrown out of court.
Spacey pleaded not guilty in January to a charge of indecent assault and battery relating to an incident in 2016 where he allegedly groped an 18-year-old at a bar in Nantucket.
His attorney, Alan Jackson, argued that the accuser’s mother deleted information from her son’s phone before handing it over to police. In documents filed last week, Spacey’s legal team claimed the accuser went “to great lengths to remove text messages that he believes did not fit his narrative.”

The next hearing the case will take place on July 8 and if it proceeds to trial, it would not take place until October or November of this year.
At a show-cause hearing last December, Spacey’s lawyer argued that his accuser — the son of local news anchor Heather Unruh — did not report the incident right away and was not interviewed by investigators until a year later.

Jackson pointed out that Unruh’s son told investigators that he was the one who approached Spacey, exchanged phone numbers with him, and lied about his age (he told Spacey he was 23, not 18).

Kevin Spacey’s lawyer also noted that Unruh’s son told investigators he consumed somewhere between eight and 10 drinks in a little over an hour and admitted he was so intoxicated, that he might have blacked out after Spacey allegedly groped him.

Khloe Kardashian Responds to Fans After 'KUWTK' Blurs Tristan Thompson's Face
Tristan Thompson‘s face was blurred during his latest appearance on Keeping Up with the Kardashians on Sunday (June 2), and Khloe Kardashian is responding to fans who want to know why.
When one fan asked why his face was blurred, Khloe responded, “Wait? It is!?!?? I did not even notice that. I don’t know 🀷🏼‍♀️ #KUWTK well, you obviously know who it is LOL so I don’t know what the point of that is. I’ll find out.”

Later, she responded to another fan saying, “We obviously didn’t do anything. He might not have signed a waiver to show those images. Why would I want to blur his face? I’m not hiding his identity LOL #KUWTK.”
Khloe and Tristan broke up earlier this year after she caught him cheating again.

Lil Kim is Reportedly Being Sued For Alleged Insurance Fraud & $15K In Upaid Medical Bills!
Lil Kim has new legal issues on her hands. The NYC raptress is being sued by New Jersey urologist, Dr. Gregory Lovallo, for breach of contract for allegedly failing to pay $15,000 for specialized medical treatment she received that the doctor believes is part of a scam.

The urologist also believes that Kim’s treatment may have been related to an insurance scam that she later profited off of. Oh?
According to Bossip, the doctor doesn't go into details about what exactly made him suspect the "How Many Licks" rapper was part of an insurance scheme, but he did say that she was “unjustly enriched” as a result.

“Based upon information and belief, defendant improperly converted insurance proceeds to his/her own personal use,” Dr. Lovallo’s complaint states.
Dr. Lovallo is seeking $15,000, plus interest and his lawyer's fees paid.

The "All About The Benjamins" rapper hadn't responded to the case as of May 31st. If she doesn't respond by next month, a judge could put her in default over the case. Last year, Kimmy filed for bankruptcy after admitting she owes millions to creditors

Tyler Perry Loses $100K Bid for Nipsey Hussle Portrait More Than a Year After Entering Bidding War
Tyler Perry may have won high-priced artwork over a famous 6-year-old a year ago, but this year he was no match for a fellow charity event honoree.

The movie mogul hoped to go home with a piece of Nipsey Hussle artwork when he attended Tina Knowles Lawson and husband Richard Lawson’s annual Wearable Art Gala June 1. However, his hopes were dashed when he was surprisingly outbid.

The moment was captured on camera Saturday at “The Lion King”-themed event, a theme befitting Knowles-Lawson, since her daughter BeyoncΓ© provides voice work in the upcoming live-action remake of the 1994 animated film. During the event benefiting the WACO Theater Center in Los Angeles, TMZ reported bidding started at $10,000. Perry was seen proudly standing and putting in his own $55,000 bid, going back and forth with fellow honoree Felicia Horowitz, a Compton, California, native who has dedicated her work to helping marginalized people. At stake was a 2019 original portrait of Nipsey by Tiffany Anderson, which she made using acrylic, mica flakes, crystal, broken glass and resin on a wood panel
“The Marathon Continues FOREVER. A Nipsey Hussle contribute 🏁🏁 this piece is for @mstinalawson and @wacotheater’s Wearable Art Gala this evening… Thoughts?” the artist said on her Instagram page this weekend of the artwork created in the memory of the rapper who was shot and killed in March. “πŸπŸπŸ’™πŸ’™ #themarathoncontinues #ripnipsey #nipseyhussle #theprettyartist The piece is made of broken glass and acrylic*. ILL NEVER STOP.”

However, it wasn’t meant to belong to Perry, who was there to receive the Trailblazer Award. Instead, Everyday People honoree Horowitz took home the 60” x 48″ piece for $100,000.
The loss came in front of Knowles-Lawson’s superstar daughter, Bey, along with her husband Jay-Z and their oldest daughter Blue Ivy Carter. It follows a bidding war Perry entered at last year’s Wearable Art Gala when Blue raised her paddle and bid $17,000 for an acrylic painting of a young Sidney Poitier, Vanity Fair reported. As the price climbed, Blue remained determined, despite her rapper dad jokingly trying to take away her paddle. The now-7-year-old bid $19,000, but it was no match for Perry. The director, who recently wrapped his nationwide “Madea’s Farewell Play Tour,” ultimately won the portrait for $20,000, coming out much luckier than he did this year.

Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant, Drake talk trash after Game 2 of NBA Finals Warriors win 109-104
When it comes to trash-talking Warriors players, Drake seems to think two is better than one.
The rapper upped the ante Sunday night after Game 2 of the NBA Finals, chirping with injured Golden State stars Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson after the Warriors' 109-104 win over the Toronto Raptors.

As Durant and Thompson waited to congratulate their teammates after the road victory, Thompson responded to someone mentioning Drake.
"See you in The Bay, Aubrey," Thompson said. "You weren't talking tonight, were ya? Bum-a---."
Moments later, Drake talked. As he walked past the Warriors stars in the bowels of Scotiabank Arena, Durant told the Raptors global ambassador to keep his head up. Drake told Thompson and Durant that the Warriors "squeezed that" Game 2 win, but Thompson didn't exactly agree.

"That was light work, too," Thompson told the Toronto native. "Good thing I popped a hammy."
Thompson joined Durant in the Warriors’ locker room after injuring his left hamstring during the fourth quarter. Durant missed his seventh consecutive game after straining his right calf in Game 5 of Golden State's second-round playoff series with the Houston Rockets. Thompson said he can't see himself missing Game 3 on Wednesday night at Oracle Arena, while Warriors general manager Bob Myers said Durant's status moving forward still is up in the air.

If both players are able to suit up and Drake makes his way to Oakland, their courtside conversations will be worth keeping an eye -- and an ear -- on. That doesn't mean the participants will take it too seriously, though
After the Raptors' Game 1 win Thursday, Drake and Draymond Green jawed at one another. The two met up for dinner one day later, and Green told NBC Sports Bay Area's Logan Murdock that "it's fun" to go at it with the Grammy winner.

Since the Warriors won Sunday night, Durant and Thompson probably would agree.

‘When They See Us’ Ignites Calls For Boycott Of Linda Fairstein’s Books Over Central Park Five Case
*Following the release of Ava DuVernay’s new Netflix miniseries “When They See Us,” ex-prosecutor Linda Fairstein has been called out on social media for her role in turning upside the lives of the Black and Latino males dubbed the Central Park Five back in the late 80’s.
Fairstein was in charge of the interrogation of the wrongfully convicted teens then went on to have a highly successful literary career, PEOPLE reports. The Central Park Five were imprisoned for years following the high-profile 1989 rape of female jogger Tricia Meili before their convictions were overturned.

Raymond Santana, who was one of the teenagers arrested, tells TMZ that he supports the online movement to #CancelLindaFairstein and boycott her books.
Fans have taken to social media to call for retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble to remove Fairstein’s best-selling literary collection from shelves. Santana believes it is high time Fairstein “pay for her crime.”

Via TMZ: Fairstein was one of the lead prosecutors on the case, and she reportedly sealed confessions from the boys at the time under what they described as duress and pressure from police. All five men were later fully exonerated, despite having spent years behind bars.
Raymond and his brothers, meanwhile, have even gotten behind a clothing campaign called “The Brotherhood Tee,” which supports The Innocence Project, which aims to “exonerates the wrongly convicted through DNA testing and reforms the criminal justice system to prevent future injustice,” according to the website.

Despite no physical evidence tying the five teens to the crime, Fairstein has maintained they were guilty.

New York City released thousands of pages of case documents in 2018, explaining the decision to vacate the convictions of the men. Fairstein then wrote an op-ed in the New York Law Journal defending the initial convictions and denying that the confessions were coerced.

In a 2002 interview with The New Yorker, she described the arrests of young men as “one of the most brilliant police investigations I’ve ever seen.
Over a decade after the Central Park Five were convicted of the crime, serial rapist Matias Reyes admitted in 2002 to assaulting Meili in 1989.

As noted by PEOPLE, Fairstein claimed that Reyes, “ran with that pack of kids. He stayed longer when the others moved on. He completed the assault. I don’t think there is a question in the minds of anyone present during the interrogation process that these five men were participants, not only in the other attacks that night but in the attack on the jogger.”

When Reyers came forward with his confession, the Central Park Five were exonerated and given a $41 million settlement from the city of New York for their wrongful conviction.

Sephora Will Temporarily Close All Stores For A One Day “Inclusion Workshop”
Make-Up retailer Sephora will temporarily close all stores on June 5 to hold “inclusion workshops” for all employees in an effort to “build a more inclusive beauty community.”
The training comes one month after Sza tweeted about her experience in Sephora where an employee called security on her while she was shopping at a store in Calabasas, California.

Sephora immediately faced backlash on social media as Sza’s “Sandy Sephora” story went viral.
The company’s move is similar to that of coffee chain Starbucks, who temporarily closed all stores in May of 2018 to hold employee training after two black customers were racially profiled for sitting in a Starbucks, employees at the Starbucks- called police on the patrons and the men were ultimately arrested.

Sephora released a statement via social media saying, “On the morning of 6/5, every Sephora store, distribution center, and corporate office in the US will close to host inclusion workshops for our employees,” the company said.
A Sephora representative told Business Insider that the “We Belong to Something Beautiful” campaign has been in the works for at least a year, including planning for inclusivity training for several months.

“We Belong to Something Beautiful builds on the many diversity and inclusion programs that have existed at Sephora since its inception and has been in the works for at least one year – as has the store closure and inclusivity workshop … This is a proactive message to support Sephora’s new manifesto and commitment,” the representative said in an email.

Principal Resigns After Being Arrested At A Strip Club For Refusing To Pay His Bill While On School Field Trip
A Louisiana Catholic School principal was arrested at a Washington D.C. gentlemen’s club after refusing to pay his bill.
WRIC 8 News reports that Michael Comeau, principal of Holy Family Catholic School, was arrested while on a school field trip. According to police reports, officers were dispatched to Archibald’s Gentlemen’s Club on a complaint of “an intoxicated man refusing to pay his bill.”

On Friday, Comeau resigned as principal of the school via text. The Diocese of Baton Rouge released a statement about the incident Friday evening.

“The Diocese of Baton Rouge confirmed today that Michael Comeau, principal at Holy Family School in Port Allen, was arrested on May 30 while on a school-sponsored trip to Washington, DC. The incident occurred when the students on the trip were in their hotel rooms for the evening under the supervision of other chaperones. Mr. Comeau had been principal of Holy Family School for five years and prior to that time had served in public education in the surrounding area. Mr. Comeau has submitted his resignation as principal and an interim principal will be appointed.”

Comeau faces charges of public intoxication and possession of an open container of alcohol.

The NYPD Creates “Rap Unit” Designed To Target Artists And Monitor Crime At Hip Hop Shows
The New York Police Department has launched an operations group that will monitor crime specifically at Hip Hop concerts.

The NYPD has launched its new operations group, called the “Rap Unit,” which will work on-the-ground through the department’s Enterprise Operations Unit. According to sources, the team will create a list of weekly upcoming rap shows, which will be categorized based off low, medium, or high risk for violence or drug-related incidents. Afterwards, police will be assigned to work the events undercover to gather intelligence on individuals and artists they have on their watch list.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Most recently, cops were planted at #RemyMa’s show at the Irving Plaza back in March 2018. At the time, they were spying on Remy herself and another member of her group Jahmeek “Jah” Elliot. Other artists included are #50Cent and #Tekashi6ix9ine. But, in response, Remy’s lawyer, Dawn Florio, is calling out the police for their prejudice move. “My impression of the hip-hop police is they’re this shadowy, specialized unit that conducts overly aggressive investigations.” She added, “They’re constantly stalking high-profile rap artists and monitoring their every move.”

However, NYPD spokeswoman Sgt. Jessica McRorie is defending the unit’s purpose, claiming it does not discriminate against rap. “The Enterprise Operations Unit focuses on venues or entertainers that have been connected with past acts of violence — regardless of musical genre. The primary goal of EOU is to anticipate, based on past incidents, where there is a significant likelihood of violence, and to take steps to prevent people from being hurt, or worse,” she explained. She continued to credit the unit for its contribution to a number of major prosecutions, saying that it “continues to gather additional intelligence by responding to shootings and assaults that may occur at all kinds of entertainment venues.”
