The Daily Buzz For June 10 ☕📰☕

Naomi Campbell for Elle Magazine July 2019! The Conservation Issue!
The first place in the United States where Naomi Campbell set foot was New Orleans, courtesy of a shoot for British ELLE. Years later, when Hurricane Katrina struck the city, she, like so many people, sat helplessly watching the disaster unfold on TV. “What can we do?” she asked herself. “We have to do something.” For Campbell, that “something” was mobilizing the fashion community to take action. So with only a week to go before New York Fashion Week, she convinced the then-head of IMG, Teddy Forstmann, to give her a tent in Bryant Park. The result was the first-ever Fashion For Relief show. With Beyoncé and Pat Cleveland walking the runway in looks from Marc Jacobs, Gucci, and Calvin Klein, it was that fashion-beloved thing: a “moment.” “Corny as it may sound,” she says, “we came together to do something.”

Campbell has always been a uniter. The first time she went to Brazil, she visited the favelas, despite being warned not to go there. She found their inhabitants to be “very giving, very sweet, not dangerous people,” whom she connected with instantly. She’s forged similar bonds with Syrian refugees in Jordan and young women in Lesotho living with HIV. And she’s involved with the #Togetherband campaign, a partnership between the UN Foundation, Bottletop Foundation, UBS, Eco-Age, Project Everyone, and TO.org to work toward the UN’s 17 global goals for sustainable development. She teamed with TO.org on its Shadowman Van initiative, which has helped build a public bathroom and community center out of discarded plastic bottles in Uganda.

Fashion For Relief is still going strong, and its events have raised money for the victims of natural disasters, including the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan and the 2013 typhoon in the Philippines. Campbell even teamed up with fellow supermodels Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington to support Knot On My Planet, the elephant-preservation charity for which Doutzen Kroes serves as global ambassador. “Africa is very close to my heart,” Campbell says. “I have a place in Kenya, and it’s tragic and disgusting to know that people are killing elephants for their ivory, destroying the nature and beauty of this continent. So it wasn’t very difficult for me to say yes.” The reunion ended up being one for the books. “Many people have asked us to come together on numerous occasions, but we chose this because we all feel the same way about it.”
Conserving natural resources was something the supermodel’s mother “always drilled into me” when she was growing up—“Turn off the lights, don’t run water, be mindful.” Campbell strives to be sustainable with her wardrobe, too. She hangs on to pieces without regard for trend cycles. “I don’t care how old it is, if I have a connection or an affiliation or a love of the creativity of the person who made it and the design, I’m wearing it.” And occasionally, she even takes public transportation, as a recent Valentino ad campaign demonstrated. Does Naomi Campbell really take the subway off-camera? “Of course I’ve taken it,” she says. “And am I recognized? Yes, but if they say hi, I say hi. Do I take it often? No, I don’t. But I have taken it!”

#RHOA: OH MY? Prayers Up! Tanya Sam hospitalized after car accident
Tanya Sam was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai for intestinal bleeding after being in a car accident last week while visiting LA, a rep for the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member told Page Six.
“She felt fine and walked away from the accident with some aches and pains,” the rep added.

Sam, 40, told her followers on her now-deleted Instagram Stories that accident turned out to be “more serious than I thought” likely due to “seatbelt impact trauma.”
The reality star said she did not go to the hospital right after the accident, but went to Cedars-Sinai 30 hours later after she attended the Wearable Art Gala and felt “pretty sick.”
Sam’s rep told us she was “feeling dizzy and vomiting blood,” but once in the hospital, doctors “took great care of her.”

She was discharged after two days and is “doing well back home in Atlanta now.”
On Thursday, Sam posted a selfie with her sister, Tamara Sam, and fiancé Paul Judge, saying, “Thank you both for taking such good care of me.”
Her rep told us she was “grateful for the love and concern and all the great wishes for a speedy recovery sent her way.”

#Empire: Father and son warm hearts with gibberish conversation about ‘Empire’ season finale

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — One father might not know what his 19-month-old son is saying, but he seems to know what he means.
The Leaf Chronicle reports a video showing Tennessee comedian DJ Pryor and his son Kingston has gone viral.
The Clarksville child’s words are mostly gibberish as the pair talk on the couch. Pryor’s wife recorded the moment about a month ago, after they watched the season finale of “Empire.” But, she posted the video on Facebook earlier this week and it racked up more than one million views.

WATCH IT HERE

The father says his son appeared to be inspired by the television show and he simply filled in the blanks with what he thought the boy might be saying.

He says he plans to use the conversation in his future stand-up comedy routines.

Chris Brown and Drake have spent the majority of this year beefing, but it looks like they have put the past behind them as two of Hip Hop/R&B’s biggest artists over the past decade have finally linked up for the new song “No Guidance”. The single brings Breezy into Drake’s world with the moody production. The two take turns on the verses before Drizzy finishes up the song with a solo rap.

#HipHopNews: Cardi B Defends Her Songwriting
Cardi B is clapping back at her pressed critics over songwriting claims.
On Thursday (June 6), the Grammy-winning rapper took to Twitter to address reports that she doesn’t write her own lyrics.

In response to one commenter who questioned why Cardi was included on Billboard’s Top 100 Songwriters of 2018, Kulture’s mother defended herself. “Because I do write a lot of my shit that’s the thing,” she tweeted.
The 26-year-old rapper admitted that she has co-writers, but still writes herself, including on her debut album Invasion of Privacy and Gangsta Bitch Music mixtapes. “Yes just like every other artist I do have a couple writer that help with hooks but I wrote plenty of songs on my album specially my mixtape,” added Cardi.

She ended it with a message for her haters: “Ya just flip shit and ya want to believe the fuck shit so bad but EAT IT UP BITCH!”

A Warning to The Beyhive from Beyoncé To Stop The MADNESS In Her Name!
While Beyoncé doesn’t often speak publicly, she sometimes send messages through her publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure.

After Beyoncé’s loyal legion of fans — known collectively as The Beyhive — went in on the wife of Golden State Warriors’ owner Nicole Curran earlier this week, Noel-Schure headed to Instagram in an attempt to quiet The Beyhive’s buzzing.
Alongside a throwback photo from JAY-Z and Beyoncé’s joint On The Run II Tour, she made it clear their reining Queen wouldn’t want them to spread negativity.

“I am looking back today at the start of The OTRII tour, one year ago,” she wrote in the caption. “It was a place of joy, unimaginable entertainment from two of the best performers in the world, and a place of love. Every single day on that tour I saw love.

“Which is why I also want to speak here to the beautiful BeyHiVE. I know your love runs deep but that love has to be given to every human. It will bring no joy to the person you love so much if you spew hate in her name. We love you.”
The Beyhive was agitated following Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night (June 5). As Curran (who was sitting next to the platinum-selling artist) attempted to talk to her billionaire husband JAY-Z, Beyoncé appeared to give her a healthy dose of side-eye.
As a result, their interaction quickly became a viral meme and Curran was greeted with backlash from The Beyhive. Curran ultimately set her Instagram account to private in an effort to thwart the malicious comments.

Central Park Five Prosecutor Linda Fairstein Has Been Dropped By Her Publisher
Linda Fairstein, the dingy-toothed prosecutor over the 1989 wrongful convictions of the Central Park Five, is continuing to feel the fallout for her dirty deeds.
Since the release of Ava DuVernay‘s “When They See Us,” Netflix miniseries, there has been a renewed outrage towards everyone who had a part in convicting five innocent black and latino teens for the rape of a jogger in Central Park.

Linda Fairstein, who is now a best-selling crime novelist, is at the top of the totem pole.

After being run off of the streets of social media, Linda has also resigned from the boards of two non-profit organizations, and now she’s been dropped by her longtime publisher, Dutton.
Last year, the Mystery Writers of America withdrew a lifetime achievement award after other authors protested citing Linda’s role in the Central Park Five case.

Welp. She deserves everything she has coming to her.

Usher Gets Huge Sacred Geometric Tattoo On His Head

Usher has linked up with famed Los Angeles tattoo artist Dillon Forte to get a huge tattoo on the back of his head.

According to Dillion, who shared photos of the tattoos on his Instagram page, the “piece is inspired by transformation, sacred geometry, and an ancient Berber talisman to mark the cardinal points in the sky and allow travelers to find their way across vast distances.”
He wrote: I had the pleasure of tattooing the legend @usher @sriyantratattoo this piece was inspired by transformation, Sacred geometry, and an ancient Berber talisman to mark the cardinal points in the sky and allow travelers to find their way across vast distances.✨ I’ve listened to @usher since I was about 11 years old so definitely an honor 🙏

Kylie Jenner, Jordyn Woods & Tristan Thompson Reunite at Birthday Party
Kylie Jenner was in the same room as ex-BFF Jordyn Woods and her sister’s ex Tristan Thompson last night.
The awkward encounter went down at Bootsy Bellows Friday night in West Hollywood during a birthday party for their longtime friend, Stassi Karanikolaou.
Kylie had backup by showing up with her sister, Kendall, and Jordyn Woods hung tight to old boyfriend/good friend Jaden Smith. Tristan arrived solo and it’s unclear if he was actually there for Stassi’s party or a separate thing all on his own.

Kylie documented their night inside and it doesn’t appear that her and Jordyn have made amends, but being in the same room is definitely progress. Although, we’re not sure how it actually went because when Jordyn left she flipped everyone off.
As reported, their relationship went south after it was revealed Tristan cheated on Khloé with Jordyn.

JUST MARRIED! Katherine Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt tie the knot at star-studded California ceremony!
Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger tied the knot in a lavish ceremony surrounded by family and close friends in California on Saturday.

The wedding took place at approximately 5.30 pm local time at the exclusive San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, with Katherine, 29, arriving at the wedding marquee on the arm of her father, Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger.

She wore a strapless white wedding gown and kept the rest of her bridal look simple with an elegant veil and her long brunette dresses draping down. The dress also had a lengthy train which was lace at the end and appeared to have a sweetheart neckline.
Her bridesmaids were dressed in floor-length blush pink gowns with plunging necklines.
There was lots of activity at the venue from early Saturday morning, with a stream of deliveries including fruit from a fresh berry supplier and a florist.
Katherine’s bridesmaids were also seen making their way inside, carrying their dresses on Saturday afternoon, and family members were also spotted.
A large passenger bus with blacked-out windows transported guests to the five-start resort, which is a popular choice for celebrity nuptials, on Saturday afternoon.
The surprise wedding comes after the glamorous couple were pictured at actor Rob Lowe's sprawling Montecito estate on Friday and were thought to be having their wedding rehearsal.

Guests at the wedding include Katherine’s father Arnold, mother Maria Shriver and Pratt’s six-year-old son Jack from his first marriage to Anna Faris, who was also believed to be in attendance.
Katherine's brother Patrick Schwarzenegger, 25, and her uncle Bobby Shriver, were spotted at the wedding rehearsal.
Although details on the ceremony itself are limited, the venue is the luxury San Ysidro Ranch, which sits in 500 acres of private land overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
On Saturday morning, two marquees could be seen outside the historic main ranch building which dates from 1893.

A heavy security presence was in place around the property which is thought to have been rented out in its entirety by Pratt and his bride. Their wedding rehearsal is believed to have taken place Friday at Lowe's sprawling estate in Montecito, TMZ reported. As she prepared for her big day, Katherine looked radiant in a long white gown that evening.
In January, Pratt took to Instagram to reveal he popped the question to Schwarzenegger after seven months of dating.
He shared a snap of the two of them as Katherine admired her huge diamond ring. The pear-cut sparkler is estimated to cost a whopping $400,000.
The father-of-one wrote alongside the snap: 'Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I'm thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!'
The Avengers star and the author have been dating since June 2018 and confirmed their romance a month later when they were pictured at church with Chris' son Jack, six.
Since then, the couple have been inseparable and regularly post photos of each other enjoying outdoor pursuits on their social media pages.
Chris shares son Jack with his ex-wife, Faris, 42, who he split from in August 2017 after eight years of marriage.

News of his engagement to Katherine came as a surprise as he had just finalized his divorce with Faris three months previously in October 2018.
He was later seen helping Katherine move out of her home in Santa Monica, California. Her mother Maria, 63, is a devout Roman Catholic, who was married to Arnold, 71, from 1986 to 2011.
Details of the couple's nuptials had remained a mystery until now, with friends claiming in April that they were determined to keep their wedding a small affair.

However it was reported that they planned on inviting close celebrity friends including Bryce Dallas Howard, who worked with Chris on Jurassic World, and Whitney Port, a close pal of Katherine's
After Chris got down on one knee at the start of the year, Katherine has been working hard at work preparing for their big day.

Another source told ET: 'The couple plans to have a star-studded event filled with family and some of the biggest celebrities in Hollywood.
'Katherine and Chris want the wedding to also be fun, as the couple always has a good time together,' the source said.
Katherine, who was raised Catholic, and Pratt are both religious – with the actor causing a stir in March when he discussed his faith during a promotional interview on The Late Show.
The Jurassic World star revealed he had been on the Daniel diet – a regime modeled on what the Old Testament prophet would have eaten – and suggested to him by Pastor Chad Veach.
He then went on to share quotes coined by the pastor, including one on coping with fame – ‘If the spotlight that is shining on you is brighter than the light that's within you, it will kill you.’

Congrats to them!

#RIP! Dr. John Celebrated at Second Line Tribute in New Orleans
New Orleans musicians and hundreds of people paid tribute to the late Dr. John with a traditional “second line” parade through the Big Easy Friday.
Fans first assembled outside the city’s Kermit’s Treme Mother-In-Law Lounge before taking the ceremony to the streets, with trumpeter James Andrews leading the celebration with renditions of Dr. John’s “Such a Night” and “Hey Song,” NOLA.com reports.

Dr. John’s granddaughter Stephanie O’Quin attended the second line parade, calling it “pretty incredible, really hot, really nice.” “It makes me so happy to see all these people here for him,” she told NOLA.com.
The New Orleans legend born Malcolm John Rebennack Jr. died of a heart attack Thursday at the age of 77. “As a Rock N Roll Hall of Fame inductee, six-time Grammy winner, songwriter, composer, producer and performer, he created a unique blend of music which carried his hometown, New Orleans, at its heart, as it was always in his heart,” his family said in a statement.
Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach said of Dr. John in a tribute for Rolling Stone, “He was so one of a kind. He came from a time before social media and everything became one big thing. He could truly be unique, isolated in a way — that special gumbo. We lost one of the greatest musicians who ever lived and also one of the greatest reflections of this country, musically, in one man. He was a human melting pot, a human embodiment of what makes American music great.”

In January 2016, following the death of David Bowie, Arcade Fire led a second line tribute to that late icon in New Orleans.

#LGBTQ NEWS: Trump Administration Denies Requests From U.S. Embassies to Fly Rainbow Pride Flags During Pride Month
The Trump administration is denying requests from U.S. embassies looking to fly the rainbow pride flag on flagpoles in celebration of LGBTQ Pride Month in June.
According to NBC News, U.S. embassies in Israel, Germany, Brazil, and Latvia have all been denied permission from Washington D.C. to fly the pride flag this month.

The rejection came to a surprise to many,  after Trump announced plans to decriminalize homosexuality overseas in a statement on Twitter on May 31.
“As we celebrate LGBT Pride Month and recognize the outstanding contributions LGBT people have made to our great Nation, let us also stand in solidarity with the many LGBT people who live in dozens of countries worldwide that punish, imprison, or even execute individuals based on their sexual orientation,” Trump wrote.

“My Administration has launched a global campaign to decriminalize homosexuality and invite all nations to join us in this effort,” he added.
Trump received backlash following denied requests and his tweet supporting the LGBTQ community, especially after he banned transgender troops from enlisting in the army.

During the Obama administration, embassies overseas were allowed to fly the pride flag in June, but this year embassies were told that requests to fly it on the flagpole had to be approved. However, the Trump administration has approved the flag to displayed on other places, such as inside embassies.
At this time, no requests to fly the pride flag have been approved, but that hasn’t stopped all embassies. Seoul, South Korea found a creative way to celebrate pride month, hanging a large rainbow banner from the side of the building

The Trump administration has yet to comment.

#LGBTQ: DC PRIDE parade sends people running After threats of a GUN!
WASHINGTON – A panic caused by a mistaken belief that a gun had been fired during a pride parade in Washington, D.C., sent people running through the streets of the nation’s capital on Saturday evening, city officials said. Police said some of the people who ran sustained minor injuries and seven were taken to hospitals.

“As the officers were going to the scene, there was a crowd of people going away from it and some of the individuals in the crowd said there was a man with a gun and that someone had fired a shot,” said Guillermo Rivera, a commander with the Metropolitan Police Department.

The man was taken into custody and is facing a gun possession charge, Rivera said. “There is NO Active Shooter at Dupont Circle. There are injuries from people running from what they thought were gunshots. But there is NO ACTIVE SHOOTER at Dupont Circle,” Kevin Donahue, the deputy mayor for public safety, said in a tweet posted shortly after the incident.

Mayor Muriel Bowser tweeted that she had been briefed by police and there were “no shots fired.” She said fire department personnel were “on the scene to treat minor injuries / due to reports of a shooting.”
Ashley Smith, the president of Capital Pride Alliance, which puts on the event, said he saw people running toward him from Dupont Circle.

“We cannot allow this incident, until we know all the facts of it, we cannot allow this incident to ruin the pride celebration going on this weekend,” Smith said. “We’re very focused on wanting to make sure we continue to have a great event for the rest of the weekend.” He said the group spends extensive time planning security procedures.

#BoxofficeNews: UNDERWHELMING! 'The Secret Life of Pets 2' is #1 at $47.1 million and 'Dark Phoenix' is # 2 at $33 million
The weekend's top twelve combined to outperform the same weekend last year by more than 43%, which means the year-to-year gap continues to close, but the weekend's new releases both struggled mightily. Universal and Illumination's The Secret Life of Pets 2 was unable to even deliver half of the opening the first film delivered just a few years ago, while Fox's Dark Phoenix entered the weekend as the worst reviewed film in the X-Men franchise ever and, predictably, delivered the lowest opening weekend of the franchise.

At the top of the box office is Universal and Illumination's The Secret Life of Pets 2 with an estimated $47.1 million from 4,561 locations (the second widest opening ever only to Avengers: Endgame). The performance is less than half of the original, 2016 film's $104.3 million, which remains a record opening for an original, animated feature. Heading into the weekend expectations weren't exactly meteoric, with the studio hoping for an opening over $50 million, but even that proved an impossible task.

Looking ahead, Pets 2 received an "A-" CinemaScore from opening day audiences, while playing to a crowd that was 57% female with 62% of the film's opening crowd being family moviegoers. As for the film's future, it compares to the $48.4 million opening for Hotel Transylvania 2 and the $47.6 million debut for Kung Fu Panda 2, both of which went on to gross over $165 million, albeit neither played in the middle of the summer movie season, which will make the future of this film interesting to watch.

In second place things don't get any better as Disney's release of Fox's Dark Phoenix could only manage an estimated $33 million debut, making it the first film in the X-Men franchise to fail to deliver a $50+ million opening. In fact, like Pets 2 the film's opening is well off even the studio's modest, $40-50 million expectations and over $30 million shy of the disappointing, $65.7 million opening for X-Men: Apocalypse three years ago.

The average multiplier for films in the X-Men franchise is 2.5x, which would suggest we're looking at an $82.5 million domestic run for Dark Phoenix, which would make it the first film in the franchise to finish below $100 million domestically. The film received a "B-" CinemaScore from opening day audiences, which is a grade below the "A-" score for X-Men: Apocalypse, as audiences seemed to agree with the negative critical reception. The audience was 57% male with 61% of the opening weekend crowd coming in aged 25 years or older.

Disney's Aladdin took third with an estimated $24.5 million, signaling a solid, -43% drop as it enters its third week in release. The film's domestic cume is now over $232 million. Internationally, the film added another $67.6 million this weekend for an overseas cume totaling $372.5 million, pushing Aladdin's global tally just shy of $605 million

In fourth, Warner's Godzilla: King of the Monsters dropped hard, falling -67.5% for an estimated $15.5 million second weekend. The drop isn't exactly a surprise, though it is a fraction steeper than the large, -67% drop the 2014 original felt, which continues to put a question mark on the film's overall domestic run and whether or not it will be able to go much higher than $100 million. The film's domestic gross currently stands at $78.6 million.
Internationally, Godzilla added $47.1 million this weekend for an overseas cume that stands at $213.7 million and a global tally topping $292 million. Spain remains the final key market for the film, where it will release on June 21.

Rounding out the top five is Paramount's Rocketman, which dropped -46% in its second weekend for an estimated $14 million. The film's domestic cume now stands at just over $50 million after ten days in release. Internationally, the film added $13 million from 50 markets for an overseas cume that now totals just over $51 million and a worldwide gross over $101 million.

Is Whoopi Goldberg At Her Breaking Point On ‘The View’ Over Meghan McCain?
New rumors are surfacing surrounding Whoopi Goldberg and The View. According to a new report, Whoopi has become ‘intolerant’ with her co-host, Meghan McCain.
If you’re an avid viewer of the panel talk show, then you’re aware that often times there are highly explosive political exchanges between the Meghan and Joy Behar. Regularly, Whoopi, whose role is to moderate, attempts to ease tension between the pair and prevent their arguments/discussions from escalating.

Insiders claim that Whoopi is growing a bit impatient with Meghan. A source claims,
‘Whoopi is at her breaking point with Meghan. She’s been trying to hang in there, especially keep the peace with Meghan and Joy, but we all know she’s about to break’.

Allegedly, behind-the-scenes, the 34-year-old conservative is not so pleasant with certain producers and the hair and makeup team. She is also said to have complained multiple times about the show’s executive producers to ABC bosses. They added:

‘Even on her worst days, Whoopi tries her best to be respectful to the staff. Even if something upsets her or she snaps for some reason, she’ll come back and apologize and explain herself later.
Meghan recently took to social media, seemingly responding to similar reports. She tweeted:
Men who debate and host political shows together are NEVER subjected to the kind of gossip and crap women are – @JoyVBehar is my favorite liberal sparing partner and we have nothing but mutual respect for each others viewpoint. I also genuinely like her, everything is fake news.

Hmmmmm, what do you think?
