The Daily Buzz For May 3 ☕📰☕

Sam Smith for British GQ June 2019!
Sam Smith is on the cover of British GQ‘s June 2019 issue, which is celebrating GQ Heroes.
Here’s what the 26-year-old singer had to share with the mag…
On feeling inexperienced in his romantic life: “When it comes to work I feel like a 40-year-old man – my responsibilities, where I live, it’s nuts. But in terms of my romantic life I feel very young, very inexperienced. It’s really hard. I think that’s the same for all queer people”

On his first experience with the gay community: “My first experiences with the gay community weren’t the greatest; it was quite violent and scary at times. And growing up in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere, it was quite a shock to the system when I moved to London. I used to love the Vauxhall scene, but everything is getting closed down, which I find really depressing. I know it was dark at times, but it was thrilling and freeing. I miss that for sure. Now I don’t go out that much.”
On those violent experiences: “It was mainly sexual. I didn’t really realise how awful they were until I started therapy and started to uproot some of that stuff. It was a lot. Those first experiences, they weren’t very kind. I wasn’t hurt, it wasn’t anything absolutely awful, but it was traumatic. It wasn’t a good welcoming into my sexual life and my life as a young man. I think it definitely stunted my belief in love at times. That’s probably the first time I started to feel sadness. I’m making it sound like it was mental. It wasn’t orgies. It was just a very different life to the one I knew in the countryside.”

On coming out as nonbinary: “Ever since I was a little boy, ever since I was a little human, I didn’t feel comfortable being a man really. I never really did. Some days I’ve got my manly side and some days I’ve got my womanly side, but it’s when I’m in the middle of that switch that I get really, really depressed and sad. Because I don’t know who I am or where I am or what I’m doing, and I feel very misunderstood by myself. I realised that’s because I don’t fit into either. I was with my mum last night and she said something so beautiful. “I’m so relieved that you and me and your whole family have a way to explain this, because it’s also been eating me up your whole life.” Because my mum could see it and that it was a torture going on in my mind. But I’m also very scared, because I’ve lived my life as a minority and now it makes me scared because I’m trying to explain it to people around me and they don’t understand. It feels like a new conversation, but I’m now learning it isn’t a new conversation and it’s been around for so long.”

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh Has RESIGNED In Aftermath Of Children's Book Scandal
After weeks of growing pleas for her to step down, Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh has resigned, her attorney said Thursday.
"I am sorry for the harm that I have caused to the image of the city of Baltimore and the credibility of the office of the mayor," she said in a letter read by her lawyer Steve Silverman.
"Baltimore deserves a mayor who can move our great city forward," the statement continued. Pugh, who has been suffering from health issues, did not appear at the news conference with her attorney.

In recent weeks, federal agents raided her two homes, her City Hall office and other locations. She has been on an indefinite paid leave of absence from her job as Baltimore's top elected official since April 1, citing health reasons.

Pugh, a Democrat, is under investigation for alleged "self-dealing" in connection to the sale of thousands of copies of a self-published children's book series. Many of those sales went to entities that she had influence over or that sought to do business with the city.
Maryland's Office of State Prosecutor and the city's ethics board have launched probes into whether any laws or ethics rules have been violated. At this time, no local, state, or federal authorities have charged her with any crime.

The mayor, who was elected in 2016, has been on leave to "recuperate from this serious illness," which her office said stemmed from a bout of pneumonia. She was hospitalized for five days in late March.
Baltimore City Council President Bernard "Jack" Young has been serving as acting mayor since April 2. He has said that he does not want the position on a permanent basis.

Pugh's leave came as the book scandal was heading toward a full-blown crisis, one that she was unable to tamp down.
At issue is how Pugh handled the sales of the Healthy Holly books, about a young black girl who promotes the benefits of nutrition and exercise.

The Baltimore Sun reported she has received roughly $800,000 over the years from the sale of the books. Some of the biggest benefactors include the University of Maryland Medical System.
UMMS is a private nonprofit for which Pugh served as a board member until mid-March, when she resigned from the position. It paid Pugh roughly $500,000 for copies of the books spread out in five payments from 2012-2018, according to the Sun.

A separate payment by health giant Kaiser Permanente of more than $100,000 for some 20,000 copies of the book between 2015 and 2018 was also reported by the Sun.
The payouts for the books came at a time when the company was seeking to provide coverage to city employees. The city's spending panel, which Pugh sat on, eventually awarded the company a $48 million contract with the city in 2017.

Pugh had been defiant in resisting calls for her resignation. Her office sent out a statement a week into her leave saying that "she fully intends to resume the duties of her office."
But a turning point for the mayor came on April 26, when FBI and IRS agents were seen carrying off boxes of paperwork from early morning raids — a clear sign that mayor's actions had piqued the interest of federal authorities.

An IRS spokesperson confirmed that the raid had been carried out at Pugh's homes, City Hall office and the Maryland Center for Adult Training, where Pugh previously chaired the board.
The IRS official, however, would not say whether the raids were related to the book deals.
Hours after the raid, Maryland's Republican Gov. Larry Hogan issued a statement urging her resignation, saying, "Mayor Pugh has lost the public trust. She is clearly not fit to lead."

That same day, Pugh's legal team confirmed federal agents also visited their offices seeking "original financial records belonging to Mayor Catherine Pugh," attorney Silverman said in a statement.
As member station WYPR's Emily Sullivan reported, Pugh's lawyers told reporters that evening that she was "becoming lucid" but not yet well enough to decide whether to resign.

It appears she has convalesced enough to realize her support as the city's top leader has all but evaporated.

#RHOA: FINALLY! Shereé Whitfield’s ‘Joggers’ Line Will See the Light of Day a Year After First Promised!
A year after she initially promised her clothing line would be released, it appears Shereé Whitfield is finally ready to drop She by Shereé clothing.
A fan Instagram account for the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star teased followers about the debut of the line recently, posting a video filled with promo photos for the line due out in spring/summer 2019.
“Who’s ready for @shebysheree_ 2019 collection??? #shereewhitfield #rhoa,” the page captioned the video.
Several fans expressed their delight.
Whitfield opened up to Us Weekly in November 2018 about her new collection, which she’s had some hurdles getting off the ground amid drama from an Atlanta producer with whom she worked on a promo she shot that year.
“I can’t begin to express how humbled, excited, grateful and genuinely happy I am right now! It’s about time!” Whitfield said, acknowledging a little how long it’s been — 10 years — since she released new clothing under the label. “I created She by Shereé to help women find fashionable yet comfortable, high-quality everyday clothing that can be worn from day to night. I want women to feel strong, beautiful and confident when they slip into She by Shereé clothing.”

Whitfield added that she took her time with the new iteration of her clothing line, which she told “RHOA” executive producer Andy Cohen at the season 10 reunion was focused on joggers and that “it’s more lifestyle” and “athletic.”

“I conceptualized and developed this collection from start to finish,” she said. “I’m a perfectionist. I don’t believe in rushing things — greatness takes time and the She by Shereé 2019 Spring Summer Collection is something I am truly proud of.”
Whitfield has long been teasing the release of the collection, including spending some of last summer giving fans a glimpse of the joggers that have since become the subject of mimicry online — including from former co-star Nene Leakes.
The ex-reality star shared a photo of her posing in a pair of joggers in August 2018 and released a promo clip for the effort in October of the same year.

#Empire: Recap Season 5, Ep. 17: 'My Fate Cries Out'
Will the Empire trust tour continue? Will Andre ever learn of his baby with Teri? And why are all these cameos – from Sevyn Streeter to Mario to Ty Dolla $ign – popping up on the May 1, 2019 episode of Empire?

Now that the hoopla surrounding the wedding of Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) and Kai (Toby Onwumere) is dying down, it’s time for the Lyon family empire to get back to work. Outside of the wedding, and the pronouncement that Jamal won’t be on the Trust Tour any longer because he’s in the Seychelles for his honeymoon, there are several other story arcs that need resolving and that get resolved in the May 1, 2019 episode of Empire entitled “My Fate Cries Out.”

The episode starts off with Lucious at his desk, crying. Andre (Trai Byers) stands before him, looking pained. Lucious has been calling cardiologists around the world, looking for a heart and some help for his ailing son. But Andre is adamant that he is going to go through with his plans to commit suicide so that he can control his time and place of death rather than having his heart give out on him at any moment.

“I have done the research. I’ve looked at every angle. This is the best way,” Andre tells his father. “I’m not sure I can do it alone. Nobody knows about this but you.”
Lucious stalks out the room, upset and overcome with emotion. He tells Andre: “I need air.”
After Lucious leaves, Andre takes three envelopes out his pocket and places them carefully on the desk. One envelope reads: mom and another reads Jamal. A third is not yet shown.

The story cuts over to Cookie and Teri talking about this pregnancy and the viability of the baby. Teri doesn’t want to tell Andre because she’s not sure if she can carry the baby to term. She has a doctor’s appointment today though, and she plans on seeing what the doctor says about the health of the fetus. Once the doctor gives her the thumbs up, she wants to tell Andre and she hopes Cookie is ok with that.

We’ll talk more of this recap on Monday!

Joe Jonas And Sophie Turner Just Got Married In Las Vegas
Just over a year since they announced their engagement, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas have seemingly wed in a surprise ceremony.
Hours after the 2019 Billboard Awards, the young couple invited attendees of the award ceremony to a Las Vegas chapel where they did the deed.

An Instagram livestream captured the likes of Diplo and others, watching 23 year-old Turner walk down the aisle, dressed in a white jumpsuit, to meet her beau, 29-year-old Jonas.
An Elvis impersonator officiated the wedding, whilst Joe's sister-in-law, and Sophie's good friend, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, appeared to be the Maid of Honour.
According to the Daily Mail, Sophie repeats the words: 'I thee wed.... and I love you... and I thank God He gave me you.'

At Elvis' direction, the pair then repeat in unison: 'I promise you, I will never leave you. I will love and trust you all the days of my life.'
The epic line: 'You may kiss the bride' was met by applause from the guests.
Ever unconventional, the newlyweds then posed on a pink Cadillac and jumped in a pool fully-clothed afterwards.
The wedding stands in complete contrast to the Chopra-Jonas four day extravaganza we witnessed earlier this year. Sophie Turner had given us clues though, hinting that she was going to opt for a more low-key affair.

'Well, we’re getting married this year,' Joe told James Corden earlier this year: 'Yeah, we’re going to have a summer wedding, which I’m looking forward to. It’s going to be a lot of fun.'
A lot of fun indeed.

NEW YORK, NY – Remy Ma has surrendered to police after being accused of attacking Love & Hip Hop: New York co-star Brittney Taylor. The veteran rapper turned herself in Wednesday (May 1) and was charged with third-degree assault, according to multiple reports.

The 38-year-old artist, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, and her reality show castmate allegedly got into an altercation at the Pretty Lou Benefit Concert, which took place at Manhattan’s Irving Plaza on April 16. Taylor told police that Remy punched her in the face.

“I tried my best to cover it up with make up and move on but that still didn’t work,” she wrote. “My Question is @remyma why did you really do this?”
Taylor’s attorney Sanford Rubenstein reacted to Remy’s arrest in a statement to E! News.
“This arrest demonstrates how serious this matter is,” he said. “It is real life and not reality TV entertainment. The victim Brittney Taylor has confidence in our system of justice and will continue to fully cooperate with the authorities.”

Jennifer Lopez Settles Lawsuit with Photographer Michael Stewart Over IG Story Post
Jennifer Lopez has changed her mind about a lawsuit accusing her of ripping off a photographer on her Instagram Story, deciding to settle it days after demanding the case be dismissed.
According to court documents obtained by website The Blast, the singer and photog Michael Stewart have reached a settlement in principle and are jointly requesting his case be dismissed.
The deal to bring an end to the case comes days after Lopez moved to dismiss the case after accusing Stewart of improperly serving her with the lawsuit.

As reported, Michael Stewart sued the singer last year, saying he took a photo of J. Lo walking through New York City. The photographer claims he licensed the photo to the Daily Mail, who ran it in an article on their website on June 29, 2018.

Stewart says Lopez then used the photo on her Instagram, without his permission. He claims to be the author of the photograph and even registered it with the United States Copyright Office.

Jennifer Lopez is just the latest in an increasing line of celebs who are being sued for this same thing. Odell Beckham Jr., Jessica Simpson and Blac Chyna are just three of the famous folk who are involved in legal battles over this issue.

Offset facing felony arrest warrant following incident in Target supermarket
Migos rapper Offset is currently facing a felony arrest warrant following an incident at a Target supermarket in Atlanta.
Offset has been accused of a damaging a fan’s smartphone after he was approached in a branch of the store in the Georgia state capital.
Sandy Springs police have issued the arrest warrant following the incident, which happened last week. Footage of the incident was obtained by WSB-TV’s Channel 2 Action News, which appears to show Offset slapping a phone out of the hand of a fan who was filming him in Target. See it below.
The owner of the smartphone, identified by TMZ as Junior Gibbons, filed a police report last Friday (April 26) which claimed that his $800 iPhone had been damaged. The value of the smartphone and Offset’s intention to damage it have reportedly both been cited by the authorities as justification for his felony charge.

Offset is already facing a felony gun possession charge in the state of Georgia following an arrest back in July 2018. He pleaded not guilty to that charge last month, and is expected to return to court to hear his case later this month.
Offset’s debut solo album ‘Father of 4’ was released back in February – check out the key talking points from that record.

The Family of slain UNC Charlotte student Riley Howell: We're 'beyond proud' of his actions
"We are just beyond proud of what he was able to do," Riley Howell's mother told "Today." "While kids were running one way, our son turned and ran towards the shooter."
But they are grappling with how to go on without him.Riley Howell, 21, was one of the two students killed in a campus shooting Tuesday at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte that also left four other students wounded.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney hailed the environmental studies major as the "first and foremost hero" of the shooting, saying he "took the fight" to the alleged gunman and got him "off of his feet." That gave the police crucial time to close in on the suspected shooter, police said.

"We are just beyond proud of what he was able to do," Natalie Henry-Howell, Riley Howell's mother, told "Today." "While kids were running one way, our son turned and ran towards the shooter."

"If he was in the room when something like that was happening, and he had turned away, he wouldn't have been able to live with himself," his mom added.
Younger brother Teddy, 14, agreed. "There was no question, there was no doubt that he would have done what he did," he said. "He put others before himself ... He always has."
Teddy said that while people around the country are now recognizing Riley Howell's courage, "he's always been my hero."

Riley Howell's sister Iris, 19, said his sacrifice was a perfect distillation of his character. "It didn't matter what happened to him as long as others got out" alive, she said.
Lauren Westmoreland, his longtime girlfriend, said she is also proud of the young man with whom she had talked about marriage.

But she said she is devastated. "Just tell people you love them," she said. "That was the last thing that I got to say to him was that I loved him."

Taylor Swift & Beyonce Fans React To Her BBMAs Marching Band Performance
All of social media lit up when Taylor took the BBMAs stage to perform her new single "Me!" live for the first time on Wednesday (May 1), but it wasn't exactly the response Taylor may have been expecting.
See, the "Delicate" singer's performance included a full marching band that was dressed in pink while she strutted around in a colorful majorette outfit. The production almost immediately drew comparisons to Beychella, Beyoncé's history-making 2018 headlining set at Coachella, which was recently shown in her Netflix documentary, Homecoming.

As fans know, Beyoncé began her Coachella set with a marching band — that was a huge part of her performance, which was a tribute to HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), and black culture — and too wore pink for her second Beychella weekend set. All of which, Bey's fans noted on social media.
"I see Taylor Swift is doing the Great Value Version of Beyoncé’s Homecoming #BBMAs," one fan wrote. Another added: "No Beyonce didn't invent Drumline HOWEVER The band dressed in pink Her in a leotard Literally the scene resembles Beyonce's opener at the top of the bleachers She knows EXACTLY what she was doing and the implications that has."

Despite their alleged similar sets, Swifties were quick to point out that Taylor has long been a user of marching bands in her videos and performances, and even had a marching band in the music video for "ME!"

"Taylor Swift did a drumline before Beyonce at Coachella. Chill out. #BillboardMusicAwards2019 ," a fan captioned a gif from Taylor's 2009 music video for "You Belong With Me" where she was in a school band. Another fan wrote: "Lmao all of y’all sh*tting on Taylor Swift for using a marching band in her performance claiming she’s copying Beyoncé. Taylor already did that back on her Fearless tour. Sit down."

And when fans weren't defending Taylor, they were praising her and Beyoncé for their individual geniuses. "👀 at yall pinning women up against one another again. Beyoncé was not the 1st to have a marching band, she will not be the last + this is not the first time Taylor’s used the marching band aesthetic (YBWM). They’re both f**king awesome powerful women," one fan wrote.

Nipsey Hussle’s Sister Denied Request For Legal Guardianship Of Late Rapper’s Daughter
Nipsey Hussle’s sister, Samantha Smith, was denied her request to get an emergency order granting her temporary guardianship over the late rapper’s daughter Emani Asghedom.
The Blast obtained court documents that state a judge has denied Smith’s request to be appointed as Emani’s temporary guardian. The ruling stated, “No urgency demonstrated for granting this relief prior to hearing on May 14th.” ⠀⠀⠀
In addition, the judge added Emani’s mother, Tanisha, must be given notice of the hearing. This stems from Smith filing a request for Emani’s guardianship earlier this week, saying she has “always been a presence in Emani’s life and along with the rest of Emani’s paternal family has assisted in her care.”

Smith also states that she wanted to take legal custody of Emani “to ensure that she can continue to live with family members with whom she has always had close ties.”
