The Daily Buzz For April 17 ☕πŸ“°☕

Keanu Reeves is the May 2019 Star Man for GQ!
Keanu Reeves covers the May issue of GQ, and it feels like his first major magazine interview in years. Keanu doesn’t do the traditional promotional tours anymore, not like we’re used to from Marvel people and the like. Keanu does his own thing and it’s great – he’s not really hiding, he doesn’t play games with how much he’ll say about anything, but there are always clear lines which he won’t cross. He’s promoting John Wick 3. The cover story is a nice read, and the writer sets the scene well, where Keanu is sitting at the Chateau Marmont, just a few miles from his house. He’s fighting a cold. He’s very Zen. You can read the full piece here. Some highlights:

His career future at 54: “I haven’t really thought about my career future, or what was going to happen, until really recently. Probably my mid-40s.” When asked what brought that bout of future-thinking on, he cheerfully says, “Death.”
He has strong feelings about BLTs: Keanu orders a BLT and a Coca-Cola. Fries, not salad. When it comes, the BLT, it’ll be on ciabatta bread. Keanu will find himself missing the crispness of toast. Keanu isn’t sure a BLT shouldn’t leave your soft palate ground up, a little. That a BLT shouldn’t have consequences. Soft bread is for soft-bread sandwiches. “Peanut butter and jelly,” Keanu says. Then, more dreamily, like Homer Simpson in reverie: “Peanut butter and honey.”

On John Wick: “He’s got this beautiful, tragic conundrum—these two selves. The John who was married, and John Wick, the assassin. John wants to be free. But the only way he knows how is through John Wick. And John Wick keeps f–ing killing people and breaking rules. We’re really watching a person fight for their life and their soul.”

On how he’s become a meme: He regards his own meme-ification from a disinterested distance. Actually participating further in the process is not for him, but he’s also not judging anybody who does play along. “People doing dances, people doing mannequin stuff or whatever—those people, they look like they’re having fun and doing some cool sh-t,” he says politely. To actively seek further meme-ification—hey, it’s Sadder Keanu—wouldn’t feel like a creative act, he doesn’t think.

He’s happy doing sequels for stuff like John Wick: “As far as my legs can take me. As far as the audience wants to go.”
Whether he minds being underestimated: “I don’t know how much intelligence I have.”

His joys: His ever-expanding book collection, motorcycles, and music. “Once in a while, I have the moments, where you drink the whiskey and you get the records out and you start doing the DJ thing until four in the morning.”

The edition of GQ is on newsstands now.

#RHOA: Eva Marcille NeNe Did not Help Her Get Her Peach!
Part two of the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion special aired on Sunday night, showing NeNe Leakes continue to go at it with her cast mates. One of the most recent heated exchanges the series OG had involved newbie Eva Marcille, who was rumored to be brought on the show by Leakes, herself.

During a sit-down with Andy Cohen on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live!, the America's Next Top Model winner addressed the rumor, stressing that it is completely false.
"NeNe didn't bring me on the show," she said. "NeNe was the only person I knew once I was asked to be on the show. That's just the truth of it all and she knows it."

Taking things a bit further, the hilariously animated "Eva the Diva" made one closing remark before having a bite of a slice of cake.
"She might have helped other people acquire a peach, but she had no fruit salad for me," she added.

Watch her clear the air, HERE
HA! The third and final part of the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion special airs next Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.

#Empire: Why Cookie's Big Secret Could Mean Disaster For Empire
Last week's episode of Empire ended on a number of wild cliffhangers, with the craziest being Lucious' savage beating of Treasure's manager in an alley and Cookie's apparent decision to hook up with Damon Cross to get back at Lucious. Well, "Without All Remedy" revealed that one of those twists wasn't actually what it seemed, and now Cookie is keeping a secret that could backfire spectacularly on her. The secret? That she didn't sleep with Damon Cross.

Okay, technically that Cookie didn't sleep with Damon Cross is a big reveal that came for viewers, as Lucious doesn't yet know that Cookie went to Damon after seeing him with Treasure in his lap. She did go to him with the intent of sleeping with him, but her conscience and love for her husband stopped her from going through with it.
After learning that Lucious didn't actually do anything with Treasure, she wanted to come clean. When he does inevitably find out, he's not going to be thrilled that Cookie shed a layer of clothing and got to at least first base with Damon before deciding to back out, even if he might be relieved that they didn't actually have sex. Carol talked her out of telling Lucious; notably, Carol believes that Cookie did sleep with another man, as Cookie left out the key detail that she left before any more could happen.

While Cookie came close to coming clean at the end of the episode, she simply told Lucious that she loves him rather than confessing that she made out with Damon Cross in a hotel room. Would she have done something different if the Lyon family didn't have to band together in support of Andre? Maybe. But what matters is that she's keeping a big secret, and it could spell disaster.

Should it spell disaster? Well, not really when compared to the big secret Lucious is keeping. The beating he laid down on Treasure's manager last week did apparently result in his death, and Lucious called a fixer to come and take care of the corpse for him. While Cookie spent the episode conflicted between her guilt about Damon Cross and her concern about Andre, Lucious didn't seem to spare a thought for the guy he killed.

Why Cookie's secret could be a bigger deal on Empire is that there are a fair few people in her life who could handle it very, very poorly. While Cookie probably wouldn't react well to news that Lucious killed a man with his bare hands in an alleyway shortly after realizing the feds could be watching them, I feel like she can keep her cool at least somewhat better than Lucious. She didn't beat Treasure to death after finding her in Lucious' lap, after all.

Should Cookie's secret be less of a big deal than Lucious' secret? Sure. But only time will tell if it will be. Here's why it could backfire on the poor woman in some ways that are disproportionate to what she did.
Lucious really doesn't always handle bad news well, especially if that bad news affects his family and/or takes a shot at his ego. If the flash-forwards are to be believed, then Lucious may not find out that Cookie and Damon are kind of cozy with each other until the feds show him photographic proof. If he sees the pics and jumps to the wrong conclusion, he could act out before anybody can set him straight. Throw in a reveal of Cookie's secret, and bad things could go down.
"Without All Remedy" did set up a way for Cookie and Damon to remain close, even if she seemingly shut the door on hooking up. Damon agreed that what happened between them stays between them, then went on to share the story of when his daughter was diagnosed with cancer, trying to help Cookie as she struggled with Andre's diagnosis. He told her that she couldn't blame herself, as he learned himself that he couldn't blame himself for what happened to his daughter.

Cookie appreciated his words, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that they spend some time together as friends rather than anything else. Lucious could easily misinterpret things, especially if Cookie is noticeably skittish about the Damon Cross subject.

If Lucious takes everything the wrong way, could he attack Damon? One of the flash-forwards certainly is bloody. Alternately, could he turn to the feds with information on Damon? Either option really wouldn't lead to anything good for Empire.
If the tension escalates between Damon and the folks at Empire, it's possible that Cookie finds herself in an impossible situation, as Damon has something on her. He seemed sincere when he promised that what happened would remain a secret; could something happen to make him change his mind? The man has a temper, as viewers saw in Thirsty's flashbacks of Damon snapping and killing a man.

It's also possible that Cookie chose the wrong person to confide in, although it's not like she had a ton of options. Based on how Cookie indicated that she'd gone to another man after seeing Lucious with Treasure, Carol seems to believe that Cookie slept with somebody. If Lucious somehow finds out that Cookie was with another man from Carol, she would likely lead him to believe more happened than what actually did.

Honestly, even if Cookie herself comes clean, everything could go wrong if she keeps the secret for too long. I can already imagine the fight that could happen if Lucious finds out that Cookie almost slept with Damon Cross and then carried on for a while without telling him. It would be more than a bit rich of Lucious to get mad at the long-suffering Cookie for keeping a secret, but he's never exactly been a hero.

Although the biggest secret at the moment may be Lucious' secret, Cookie's could lead to some collateral damage based on the people who would likely have extreme reactions to it. It may not be fair, but Empire rarely is. The flash-forwards do (which are now finished) point toward Lucious not discovering the connection between Cookie and Damon until after the big death; could more than one major character die?

Although Andre got some good news about the chemo working in "Without All Remedy," the odds are still stacked against him. What if Andre is the one in the coffin, and then Empire reveals that another death was going to happen all along? I'm still not sure how the possible writing out of Jussie Smollett fits in, though it is worth noting that Kai is back in the picture and wants to make it work with Jamal.

Find out what happens next with new episodes of Empire on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.

#HipHopNews: Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" Breaks Drake's Single-Week Streaming Record
Lil Nas X’s popular single “Old Town Road” smashed a streaming record previously held by Drake.

The viral hit racked up 143 million streams in the U.S. for the week ending April 11, breaking the record for most in a single week. “Old Town Road” eclipsed Drake’s “In My Feelings,” which previously set the high mark with 116.2 million streams last July.
“Old Town Road” benefited greatly from its recent remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. Streams for the original version and remix were both counted for the track’s chart placement, according to Billboard.
Streams for Lil Nas X’s breakthrough single experienced dramatic growth over the past week, increasing by 207 percent. The song jumped from 46.6 million U.S. streams to 143 million.

The tremendous streaming numbers allowed “Old Town Road” to maintain its top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the second week in a row. The country trap tune hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 earlier this month after infamously being removed from Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

Actress Georgia Engel, whose winning role on The Mary Tyler Moore Show led to a long career on screen, has died at age 70.

From 1972 to 1977, Engel played sweet, artless Georgette, the girlfriend and then wife of arrogant news anchor Ted Baxter. She explained how the role that cemented her career came to be, in a 2007 interview with the Toronto Star.
"It was only going to be one episode," Engel said, "and I was just supposed to have a few lines in a party scene, but they kept giving me more and more to do." The next Monday, she said, there was a buzz at the door and a giant potted plant with a note welcoming her to the Mary Tyler Moore family.

The role had been written just for her, Engel said. Her death was confirmed to outlets including The Associated Press by her friend and executor, John Quilty. The cause of her death is not known because she was a Christian Scientist who did not consult doctors, Quilty told the AP.
Engel found plenty of television work in the decades that followed, with recurring roles in Coach, Everybody Loves Raymond, and three seasons of TV Land's Hot In Cleveland alongside her former Mary Tyler Moore Show co-star Betty White. She also appeared on The Love Boat, Two and a Half Men and The Office.
"She could get a laugh on literally every line you gave her," Everybody Loves Raymond creator Philip Rosenthal told The New York Times. "I've never seen anything like it."
Engel also had a career on stage, appearing in the original Broadway productions of Hello, Dolly! in 1964 and The Drowsy Chaperone in 2006. Last year she starred in the musical Half Time, as a member of a senior hip-hop dance team that performs at NBA games. Her role was "a kindergarten teacher with a gangsta rap alter ego," according to Playbill.
She was born on July 28, 1948 in Washington, D.C. Her survivors include two sisters, the AP reports.

Actress Valerie Bertinelli, who starred in Hot in Cleveland wrote on Twitter that Engel "was the sweetest, kindest, dearest woman. And crazy talented. I will miss her."

R.I.P Georgia and THANK YOU!

Notre Dame’s treasures spared blaze after frantic rescue
PARIS (AP) — An inferno that raged through Notre Dame Cathedral for more than 12 hours destroyed its spire and its roof but spared its twin medieval bell towers, and a frantic rescue effort saved the monument’s “most precious treasures,” including the Crown of Thorns purportedly worn by Jesus, officials said Tuesday.

Also surviving was the Roman Catholic cathedral’s famous 18th century organ that boasts more than 8,000 pipes, after a plan to safeguard the masterpieces and relics was quickly put into action after the fire broke out Monday. Statues removed from the roof for restoration just days ago also were saved.
Officials consider the fire an accident, possibly as a result of restoration work at the global architectural treasure that survived almost 900 years of tumultuous French history but was devastated in the blaze on the second day of Holy Week.

Paris prosecutor Remy Heitz said the inquiry into what caused the fire would be “long and complex.” Fifty investigators were working on it and would interview workers from five companies hired for the renovations to the cathedral’s roof, where the flames first broke out.
Heitz said an initial fire alert was sounded at 6:20 p.m. Monday but no fire was found. The second alert was sounded at 6:43 p.m., and the blaze was discovered on the roof.

News that the fire was probably accidental has done nothing to ease the national mourning for the symbol of national pride immortalized in Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
“Notre Dame has survived the revolutionary history of France, and this happened during building works,” said influential former Culture Minister Jack Lang.

Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said there were still some risks to the structure.
The cathedral is “under permanent surveillance because it can still budge,” Castaner told reporters after a brief visit inside.

The Crown of Thorns, regarded as Notre Dame’s most sacred relic, was among the treasures quickly transported from the Roman Catholic cathedral after the fire broke out, said Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire. Brought to Paris by King Louis IX in the 13th century, it is purported to have been pressed onto Christ’s head during the crucifixion. Also saved was the tunic of St. Louis, a long, shirt-like garment from the 13th century, said Culture Minister Franck Riester.

“The works of art, the most precious treasures were secured last night,” Riester told reporters, thanking teams from city hall, the culture ministry, firefighters and the bishopric who worked to save the items.
Other works were being transferred from City Hall to the Louvre. There they will be dehumidified, protected and eventually restored. The minister said the cathedral’s greatest paintings would be removed starting Friday. “We assume they have not been damaged by the fire but there will eventually be damage from the smoke,” he added.

The 3-meter-tall copper statues that looked over the city from Notre Dame’s 96-meter peak had already been sent to southwestern France for work that is part of a 6 million-euro ($6.8 million) renovation project on the spire and its 250 tons of lead.
“The task is — now the risk of fire has been put aside — about the building, how the structure will resist,” said Junior Interior Minister Laurent Nunez.
UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay said work must begin immediately to protect the remaining structure.
Azoulay told The Associated Press it was too early to say whether Notre Dame’s treasured rose windows were unscathed, because art experts hadn’t been able to study the site yet.
The first 24-48 hours were crucial to protecting the stone and wood structure from water damage and assessing the next steps, she said, warning that parts of the cathedral remain “extremely fragile,” notably hundreds of tons of scaffolding around the spire that collapsed. Notre Dame is part of a UNESCO heritage site and UNESCO has offered its expertise.

French President Emmanuel Macron pledged to rebuild the cathedral he called “a part of us” and appealed for help to do so.
Offers of assistance began flowing in from around the world to help restore the 12th century tourist attraction to its former glory.
Poland, the Czech Republic and Greece were among those offering to send experts and technicians from their own restoration projects, while major French businesses pledged financial assistance.

Repairing the cathedral, including the 800-year-old wooden beams that made up its roof, presented challenges.
The roof cannot be rebuilt exactly as it was because “we don’t, at the moment, have trees on our territory of the size that were cut in the 13th century,” said Bertrand de Feydeau, vice president of preservation group Fondation du Patrimoine, adding the roof restoration work would have to use new technology.
Also of concern, Feydeau said, is the organ, “a very fragile instrument, especially its pipes.”
“It has not burnt, but no one can tell whether it has been damaged by water. Nobody knows if it is a functioning state or will need to be restored,” he told AP.

Peter Fuessenich, who oversees reconstruction for the Gothic cathedral in Cologne, Germany, said it could take decades to repair Notre Dame. Cologne Cathedral was heavily damaged during World War II and work to repair it is still ongoing more than 70 years later.
“It will certainly take years, perhaps even decades, until the last damage caused by this terrible fire will be completely repaired,” he told broadcaster RTL. “When the last stone was set in Notre Dame, the first one was laid here in Cologne, and in this respect it affects us all very much.”

France’s richest businessman, Bernard Arnault, and his luxury goods group LVMH pledged 200 million euros ($226 million) for the reconstruction. Billionaire Francois Pinault and his son, Francois-Henri Pinault, who is married to Salma Hayek, said they were immediately giving 100 million euros from their company, Artemis, the holding company owning auction house Christie’s and the main shareholder of luxury fashion houses including Gucci. Major French companies Total and L’Oreal each pledged 100 million euros.
Pope Francis offered his prayers that Notre Dame, the “architectural gem of a collective memory,” will once again be a shrine to the Catholic faith, a symbol of the French nation and a spiritual and architectural gift to humanity.

In a condolence note to Paris Archbishop Michel Aupetit, Francis said the fire was particularly devastating given that it came during the somber days leading up to Easter during which Christians commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus.
The Vatican’s culture minister, Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, described Notre Dame as a “living creature” that has been reborn before and will continue to be the “beating heart” of France.

Ravasi said he was moved by scenes of people weeping as the cathedral went up in flames, and suggested art experts at the Vatican Museums could play a role in the rebuilding.

Charlamagne Tha God Say Wendy Williams’ Husband Kevin Hunter Was Allegedly Behind His Rape Smear Campaign
As the Kevin Hunter tea continues to flow like a winding river in Messyville…Charlamagne Tha God says he knew Wendy Williams‘ estranged husband was allegedly behind the smear campaign labeling him as a rapist.
During an interview with Tasha K, Kevin’s former protΓ©gΓ©, Aveon Falstar, said he overheard Wendy’s soon-to-be ex-husband on the phone “organizing the story.”
Charlamagne responded saying he already knew Kevin (who he calls “Kelvin”) was allegedly behind the smear campaign that dug up his old rape case.

For the record, when I said, ‘I know what you did last summer,’ this is what I was referring to.
One thing that young man said that is true, but not completely true is I didn’t sue Kelvin Hunter,  but my lawyers did serve Kelvin Hunter …last year – cease and desists – because I was alerted to the fact that they were allegedly behind that smear campaign labeling me as a rapist.

I’ve known this since July – you know what I’m saying? That’s why I said I know what you did last summer.

Ms New York Tiffany Pollard Implies She’s Had Plastic Surgery And her Fans aren’t Having it!
Reality television actress Tiffany “New York” Pollard seems to have implied recently that she’s undergone facial cosmetic surgery.

The former “Flavor of Love” star has been flooding her social media feed with images of herself, but fans have been pointing out that there’s something different about her face.
In a selfie posted to her Instagram page Saturday evening, the “HBIC” showed off her massive cleavage and wrote in her caption, “πŸ—£#portland WE ONπŸ’―πŸ”₯ Tonight we make HISTORY πŸ™ŒπŸΎ I’m moving in a whole NEW ENERGY πŸ’‘⚡️.”
But the eye-catching photo of Pollard sparked suspicion among folks who claimed she looked like a completely different person. Fans pointed out a filter seemingly used to lighten the celeb’s skin complexion and said that her nose appeared smaller than before.
“Girl you need to stop with the filters. You’re darkskin. Just accept it. You look crazy as hell and fix that nose of yours πŸ˜”️😯.”

“She looks completely different eww new face who dis?”

“Omg what did you do to your face are you skin bleaching? Why is your nose obsolete. You used to be beautfiul πŸ˜©.”
One person even asked the star, “Wtf, happened to your face?”
Pollard responded, seemingly indicating that she’d had facial surgery done, saying, “LOTS! πŸ˜‚ I ain’t nobodies role model…. I’m a walking disaster when I wanna be πŸ’―.”

In 2016, Pollard, 37, actually defended the idea of plastic surgery after going on the show “Doctors,” adding that she wouldn’t have minded getting rid of her “big ass nose” at the time.

“I love plastic surgery, there’s nothing wrong with that!” she said. “Plastic surgery has a really bad rep, and I don’t like that. So, I’m a little bit of an advocate for it.”
Despite the backlash Pollard received on her supposed plastic surgery procedure, she still received a shower of compliments from other fans.

“We adore you regardless!!! We appreciate who u ARE not who they want you to BE!!✊ #StrutQueenπŸ‘‘πŸ’•.”
“Tiffany you have and always will be a beautiful woman and person in my opinion no matter what the negative people have to say about your appearance just know that if it looks good, and it feels good to you then it must be good πŸ˜˜.”

'Queer Eye' fans raise $100,000 to send disowned lesbian back to school
“I was just super grateful for people wanting to help me with a dream that I had basically buried,” Jessica Guilbeaux, 23, said.
Jessica Guilbeaux, the breakout star of the newest “Queer Eye” season, shared that fans raised enough money through GoFundMe to pay off her student loan debt and send her back to college to finish the degree she started but never finished.

“I’m going back to school to study computer science,” she told NBC News. “Tech has always been something I’ve been interested in, so I am definitely going back for that. I’m a huge nerd, so that’s always going to be apart of me.”
Guilbeaux was kicked out of her home at 16 by her adoptive family when they discovered she was a lesbian. Later, she tried going to the University of Kansas to study computer science, but she had to drop out after accruing too much student loan debt.

Her story became the center of “Black Girl Magic,” an episode on the most recent season of the Emmy-winning Netflix reality makeover show. In the days following, fans started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the 23-year-old waitress. In less than a month, they raised $100,000, reaching the fundraising goal.
“I was just super grateful for people wanting to help me with a dream that I had basically buried,” she said. “It’s such a kind gesture, and it was totally unexpected.”
Guilbeaux plans to give a portion of the money to an LGBTQ nonprofit: “I also want to donate to GLAAD, because I have the ability to give back to my community now. So what I don’t need will be given for that purpose.”

When asked what she hopes people take away from her story, Guilbeaux noted that “everyone goes through something” challenging in their life, and she hopes her story helps them feel empowered to get through those times.

“Don’t let your struggle define you, because you are more than that,” she said. “You can do anything you set your mind to if you just believe in yourself.”

For Some strange reason Donald Trump Will Present Tiger Woods With Presidential Medal Of Freedom
Donald Trump announced he will be awarding Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom after Woods won his fifth Masters title this past weekend.

It’s been 14 years since Woods, 43, won his last Masters title. The award-winning golf player previously endured several personal problems, as well as physical issues like back pain and spinal fusion surgery. While many fans may not have thought they’d see this day again, Woods has reclaimed his glory as one of the top golfers of all-time.

His win gained attention from not only his fan base but also reality TV star #DonaldTrump, who now wants to grant Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. “Spoke to Tiger Woods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterday’s The Masters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM!” Trump tweeted Monday afternoon.

The Medal of Freedom recognizes individuals who have made “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,” according to the executive order designating the award.

So far Trump has given the Presidential award to a few athletes including Alan Page, Roger Staubach, and Babe Ruth.

Where has Tiger done that?
