Kim Kardashian for Vogue US - May 2019
Kim Kardashian West, Approach the Bench! Kim Kardashian West, a lawyer? The reality star, makeup mogul and criminal justice reformer told Vogue she's apprenticing with a San Francisco law firm, inspired by her successful effort to free Alice Marie Johnson (Johnson was granted clemency by President Donald Trump after spending years in prison for drug trafficking).
Turns out that in four U.S. states, California included, one doesn't need to attend law school to take the bar exam.
She's working with CNN commentator, activist and attorney Van Jones and attorney Jessica Jackson, co-founders of a criminal justice reform group called #cut50, to complete her studies, with the goal of taking the bar in 2022.
What's the hardest part? Torts, said the daughter of the late O.J. Simpson defense attorney Robert Kardashian. She said torts is the most confusing, contract law the most boring and criminal law, "I can do in my sleep."

#RHOA: Next up on NeNe’s SHADE RADAR from The Reunion, EVA THE DIVA!
Following part one of “The Real Housewives” Season 11 reunion, Nene Leakes and Cynthia Bailey’s friendship seemed like it was pretty much over. However, it appears Eva Marcille’s decision to side with Cynthia may have rubbed Nene the wrong way.
During the Sunday night “RHOA” season 11 reunion, Nene was still convinced that Cynthia intentionally invited Kenya Moore to a party without warning Nene her nemesis would be there. Although cast member Kandi Burruss later revealed Cynthia had no idea Kenya would attend the event, Nene remained unconvinced.
“She is no longer a friend in any capacity in my life, ever,” Nene said during part 1 of the reunion.
“I knew she was slick. It’s like having a best friend who’s like, jealous of you. Why would you want to plot to bring your good friend down?”
Cynthia reflected on her relationship with Nene and insisted she thought of Nene as a sister rather than a friend. Although Nene rejected her statement, Eva showed her support for Cynthia.
Following the reunion, Nene retweeted a fan who called out Eva for siding with cast members who weren’t as kind to her as Nene initially was.
“I don't know how I feel about @EvaMarcille after this reunion.... How do you skip over how intentionally MESSY Cynthia, Marlo, Kandi and Porsha have been towards you but hone in on @NeNeLeakes for having on the mic to this extent?? #RHOAReunion.”
Over on Eva’s Instagram Story, the model shared several quotes that encouraged positive behavior during difficult situations. “Don’t treat people as bad as they are, treat them as good as you are,” read one quote.
“Recognize when a phase, job, a life stage, or a relationship is over and let it go. Allow yourself to gracefully exit situations you have outgrown. Moving on doesn’t have to be a catastrophic dramatic event. You can simply choose to move forward with peace and clarity,” another quote read.
Part 2 of “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” Season 11 reunion airs Sunday at 8 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
#Empire: Recap Season 5, Episode 14 "Without All Remedy"
Finally, all the tangled webs of stories are coming together for Empire. We are finally at the point where we can see how Lyon family member Andre (Trai Byers) could possibly be the one in the coffin at the end of this season. And we see how one-night stands didn’t benefit anyone remotely attached to the Empire – from Blake (Chet Hanks) to Tiana (Serayah) to Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) who went into the bedroom with Damon Cross (Wood Harris) and took her clothes off. Music streams are down, the company is in trouble and family patriarch Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) killed somebody in the alley last week, so what’s going on with the body? And, what’s going on with the feds?
This week’s episode of Empire, “Without All Remedy,” goes straight to the good stuff by starting out in the alley with Lucious, who is wearing dark gloves. A chef and someone else from the building come outside to get a smoke. Lucious is already there, offers a light. The men are delighted to meet THE Lucious Lyon, and they light their cigarettes and walk off, oblivious to the dead body in the alley. Minutes later, Lucious private driver and car come up, and they haul the body off. Treasure has no idea that Lucious killed her manager, but he was bogus anyway so she might not miss him.
Lucious tries again to call Cookie. Then he calls the hotel to see if she ever went back to her room that night.
Cut over to Kai and Jamal (Jussie Smollett) in bed, in the hotel, wearing matching white robes. Jamal is ignoring the phone calls but finally, Kai picks up. It’s Lucious, he tells Jamal, who then picks up the phone. Lucious tells Jamal to come to the house for a family meeting. The same happens to Hakeem (Bryshere T. Gray), who is rehearsing but comes home immediately when he gets the phone call.
Cut to the Lyon family home, where Andre is discussing his medical trial and stage 4 cancer diagnosis. Terry is there, to support. The family is ready to call off the tour to stay home and help Andre as best they can, but Andre pushes back and tells them to focus on getting Empire back together. Empire is their legacy whether he is alive or not. Cookie starts going into mom-mode and calling doctors and trying to get 3rd and 4th opinions. And Andre hugs his brothers and give them some instructions:
“I love yall and I need you to believe that I’m gonna be fine so I can believe it too. Ok?”
Later in the episode, Cookie and Terry (Meta Golding) exchange terse words when it comes to caring for Andre. Terry is staking her claim as his woman and Cookie reminds Terry that she’s his mom. Cookie went on ahead and had a specialist flown in to see Andre, and she tries to commandeer his medical care. Andre asks them both to simmer down. He already has things under control.
Stay Tuned for more recaps on this Episode! Empire is on Wednesday’s on FOX!

#HipHopNews: New Drake Album Coming? He says YES!
Drake is back in the lab. Almost one year after releasing Scorpion, the 6 God has announced plans for the follow-up. During the London stop on his “Assassination Vacation Tour” on Tuesday night (April 9), Drizzy said that he’s already started recording and plans to hit the studio once he returns to the U.S. and return with a new album in 2020.
“This is one of my favorite places to be in the world,” he told the crowd at the O2 Arena. “So I think what I’ma do—I kinda actually started last night to be honest with you. But I think what I’ma do after this, is I’ma go home and I’ma make a new album so I can come back to London next year and we can do this again.”
Additionally, Drake and Future appear to be working on What a Time to Be Alive 2. Last week, Future took to Instagram Stories with Drake, where they revealed that they are cooking up new music, a possible sequel to their 2015 collaborative project What a Time to Be Alive.
“What’s that? We gotta cook that up. That two,” said Drake while holding up two fingers in the video. Future responded, “It’s already cooked. Top secret.”
In addition to teasing new music, Drake took to Instagram to share some old Twitter DMs between him and Kendrick Lamar, Trey Songz, Kevin Durant, and more. “Logged into my twitter today and got a quick reminder that time is in full flight,” he wrote. “A lot of blessings to be aware and appreciative of for so many of us…take a quick moment to digest the progression in your life no matter how small or large. Then get back to it.”
#WIKILEAKES Julian Assange Dragged Out of Ecuadorian Embassy and Arrested by British Police
Julian Assange has been arrested by police in London after almost seven years in the Ecuadorian embassy. The WikiLeaks founder was dragged out of the embassy at approximately 10:35 am local time, 5:35 am ET.
Assange did not leave of his own free will and could be heard shouting “UK must resist, you can resist!” as he was physically moved of the Ecuadorian embassy by several men. The arrest was livestreamed over YouTube on Russian news channel RT.
According to the WikiLeaks Twitter account, Assange only left against his will and said that an unnamed Ecuadorian ambassador, “invited British police into the embassy” to arrest the bearded WikiLeaks founder. As you can see from the video, British police seemed to be smirking as he was loaded into a large police vehicle.
The UK Metropolitan Police released a statement on its website: He has been taken into custody at a central London police station where he will remain, before being presented before Westminster Magistrates’ Court as soon as is possible.
The MPS had a duty to execute the warrant, on behalf of Westminster Magistrates’ Court, and was invited into the embassy by the Ambassador, following the Ecuadorian government’s withdrawal of asylum.
British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt thanked Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno in a tweet shortly after Assange was arrested.
“Julian Assange is no hero and no one is above the law. He has hidden from the truth for years,” Hunt tweeted. “Thank you Ecuador and President @Lenin Moreno for your cooperation with @foreignoffice to ensure Assange faces justice.”
Assange applied for asylum at the embassy in June of 2012 over fears that he would be extradited to the United States. Assange faced charges in Sweden over sexual assault-related crimes but those charges have since been dropped.
The relationship between Assange and his host country of Ecuador has been hostile over the past couple of years. Ecuador’s President Lenin Moreno even accused Assange of leaking his private messages and photos recently.
“Mr. Assange has violated the agreement we reached with him and his legal counsel too many times,” Moreno said earlier this month.
Moreno posted a video to Twitter stating that while Ecuador has protected Assange’s human rights, and “provided for his everyday needs,” the country had decided to revoke his asylum claim. Moreno insisted that he had been assured that Assange would not be extradited anywhere where he would face the death penalty.
In January of 2018, President Moreno called Assange a “nuisance” and an “inherited problem,” due to the fact that it was the previous president who granted the WikiLeaks founder asylum.
“If President Moreno wants to illegally terminate a refugee publisher’s asylum to cover up an offshore corruption scandal, history will not be kind,” WikiLeaks said in a statement earlier this month to the Associated Press.
Assange had previously promised to leave the embassy of his own free will if Chelsea Manning was pardoned. Manning was granted clemency by President Barack Obama shortly before he left office in January of 2017 but Assange insisted that it was only to make the WikiLeaks founder look like a liar. Manning currently sits in prison and is reportedly suffering under solitary confinement for refusal to testify to a grand jury.
Journalist James Ball reports that Assange’s cat, which had become a minor media celebrity while Assange was in the embassy, was given to an animal shelter by the Ecuadorian embassy “ages ago.”

Barack Obama Wrote a Letter for Nipsey Hussle’s Memorial: ‘I Hope His Memory Inspires More Good Work’
President Barack Obama never met Nipsey Hussle but felt moved enough by his passing to write a letter for his memorial.
Karen Civil read the letter for the crowd at the Staples Center gathered for the slain rapper’s “Celebration of Life.” According to Civil, Obama penned the letter this morning.
“I’ve never met Nipsey,” the letter began, “but I’ve heard his music through my daughters, and after his passing, I had the chance to learn more about his transformation and his community work.”
The letter continued, “While most folks look at the Crenshaw neighborhood where he grew up and only see gangs, bullets and despair, Nipsey saw potential. He saw hope. He saw a community that, even through its flaws, taught him to always keep going.”
Obama went on to say, “I hope his memory inspires more good work in Crenshaw and communities like it.”
Louis Farrakhan were among the speakers at the memorial today and performances are scheduled from Anthony Hamilton, Jhene Aiko and Stevie Wonder.
Among the celebrities scheduled to give tribute include his longtime girlfriend, Lauren London, YG, Snoop Dogg and radio personality Big Boy.
Sherriff Deputy’s Son is the Suspect Arrested in Connection to Fires at Black Louisiana Churches
Police have taken a suspect into custody who is suspected to be involved in recent fires that destroyed three historically black Louisiana churches, according to CNN. The three fires over the course of ten days raised suspicions of arson.
The suspect is a 21-year-old man from St. Landry Parish, located to the west of Baton Rouge. CBS News reports that his name is Holden Matthews, and that he’s the son of St. Landry Parish Deputy Roy Matthews, who reportedly surrendered his son to authorities. On what appears to be Matthews’ Facebook, he says he is a member of a black metal band named Vodka Vultures.
The three churches that were seemingly the targets of arson attacks in the last two weeks include St. Mary Baptist Church in Port Barre, which burned on March 26, Greater Union Baptist Church, which burned on April 2nd, and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church which burned two days later, both in the town of Opelousas, where Matthews also apparently lives.
“This string of suspicious church fires, including three in St. Landry Parish alone, is deeply disturbing and a reminder of the violence that people of color continue to face across the South,” Alanah Odoms Hebert, executive director of the ACLU of Louisiana, said in a statement earlier this week. “Black churches have long been targets of racial terrorism, and recent years have seen a steady rise in white supremacist violence.”
The FBI and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives both involved in the investigation.
Authorities say they will hold a press conference “to announce significant updates” in the case.

Jennifer Hudson Doesn’t Want To Pay For Her Ex’s Housing Costs: ‘Nothing Entitles David To Live In a Home Identical To Jennifer’s’
The father of Jennifer Hudson‘s son, David Otunga, reportedly wants the singer to pay his housing costs,on top of the child support she’s already giving him. It’s something Hudson doesn’t want to do, and she’s now fighting it.
The two have been embroiled in a vicious custody battle for quite some time over their 10-year-old son David Otunga Jr., and things seem to be getting nastier.

On top of that, the couple was engaged but never got married, so Hudson said she shouldn’t be responsible for maintaining a lavish home for Otunga — especially when can afford one himself.
Otunga is currently employed with the WWE, where he’s been a wrestler and commentator. He’s also a lawyer as well as a Harvard graduate.
“Nothing entitles David to live in a home identical to Jennifer’s,” court documents reportedly read. She also “denies that the child support should extend to housing subsidies for David when the parties were never married.”
Otunga also claimed to be the primary caregiver, because Hudson is busy with her career, something she denies. The “American Idol” alum also said that her ex is often on the road with the WWE, so he can’t be the primary caregiver.
Plus, the singer blasts the idea that her career keeps her from being a good parent who’s present, and Otunga claiming to work less or not at all doesn’t make him a better one.
“To accept David’s proposition that because he is present, he is a better parent would be to do a disservice to working parents in general and to Jennifer in particular,” read the documents.
She also accused her ex of not being the stay-at-home dad that he’s portraying himself to be, because he was busy promoting his appearance in the film “A Madea Family Funeral.”
Hudson says Otunga wants to mimic her career and doesn’t want to be the full-time parent like he claims. And just because Hudson lives like a successful entertainer, it doesn’t mean that her ex should live that way too, she stated.
“Having a child with a celebrity should not be the basis to treat David like someone who has given birth to a child and who has no means of supporting the child,” it said in the documents. “Jennifer is the one who gave birth to the minor child, who had the minor child with her as she traveled prior to the difficulties the parties experienced in their relationship.”
Hudson and Otunga split in late 2017 after being engaged for almost a decade. The singer also filed for an emergency order of protection against her ex at one point and said he shoved her while she was holding their son, which Otunga denied.
Their custody battle began in March of last year.

LeBron James ‘Blindsided’ By Magic Johnson Quitting as President of the Team!
LeBron James feels his first season with the Los Angeles Lakers has been letting him down and now that Magic Johnson has quit as the team’s president, he’s worried for what’s to come.
LeBron James, 34, is not happy with the Los Angeles Lakers or Magic Johnson, 59, and he’s finding his first season with the popular team an unexpectedly hard one. After Magic announced he was stepping down from being the L.A. Lakers president on Apr. 9, LeBron was shocked and disappointed, and he’s also having a hard time staying positive with the losses he encountered with the team this season.
“LeBron is frustrated with how this season has turned out because it has been nothing short of a disaster,” a source close to LeBron EXCLUSIVELY told HollywoodLife. “When he heard about Magic quitting he was blindsided with the announcement and he wasn’t happy at all because it’s one more thing LeBron has to worry about in the off season. LeBron has been in the NBA Finals every year since 2010 and the fact that he isn’t even in the playoffs is a bit embarrassing. The Lakers have such an uphill battle to figure out that LeBron is trying to find the patience to handle it all. If these dilemmas continue into next season no one would be surprised if LeBron requested a trade, it’s that bad right now.”
It’s understandable that LeBron would be having such a difficult time with his new team considering what happened in the past few months. He just moved from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the L.A. Lakers last July and although the move brought out a lot of excitement for many Lakers fans, his first season with the popular team proved to be a tough one. He suffered a groin injury during a game against the Golden State Warriors in Dec. 2018 causing him to miss 17 games, the most of his basketball career at that point, and on Mar. 30, it was announced that he would also miss the last six games of the season due to the injury.
Oprah Winfrey Considers Second All-Girls School Location in U.S.
Oprah Winfrey founded her all-girls South African leadership academy in 2007 and more than 10 years later, she’s admitting she is considering opening an all-girls school in America.
Winfrey made the revelation during “Between the Scenes,” an online segment that is filmed as “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” tapes for Comedy Central.
An audience member asked if the media mogul would open a school in the U.S. and Winfrey responded in the affirmative.
“Yes, I’m actually thinking about it,” she says in the April 10 video, her response getting lots of cheers from the audience. “I’m also thinking about where.
“The reason why I called it the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa is because even then I was thinking this will just be one, this will be the satellite school and then I will do others,” she continues. “But it’s taken me awhile to get it right. It’s taken me about 10 years to actually get it right.”
Winfrey’s school, which is just outside Johannesburg, serves underprivileged girls in grades 8–12 who reside in nine provinces throughout South Africa. By attending the school, the girls are able to learn skills to go into careers in medicine, public service and architecture, Variety reported in 2017.
“My hope was that I would give them an opportunity to see the best of themselves reflected through an open mind, an open heart, to what is possible,” Winfrey told the industry trade publication. “And I can honestly say I have achieved that.”
More than a decade on, the school has seen seven classes graduate, with the newest one earning their diplomas in December 2018. That year, 100 percent of the students went on to enroll in colleges and universities in South Africa, like The University of Witswatersrand (Johannesburg) and the University of Pretoria.
Graduates also have taken their education abroad, matriculating in schools in the U.S., including Spelman College in Atlanta and Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
Former Minnesota Vikings Part-Owner Irwin Jacobs and His Wife Found Dead Inside Multimillion Dollar Mansion
Two people were found dead inside the multimillion-dollar home of renowned businessman and former part-owner of the Minnesota Vikings Irwin Jacobs this week, following a possible murder-suicide.
The bodies were discovered in a bed next to a handgun by a routine visitor of the Minnesota residence on Wednesday morning, Orono Police Chief Correy Farniok confirmed in a press conference.
“Officers with the Orono Police Department made entry into the home. Upon entering, we found two individuals deceased — one adult male, one adult female — they were both inside the house and a gun was recovered,” Farniok said, adding that he was waiting for the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office to officially release their identities.
Irwin’s company, Jacobs Management Corp., later released a statement on behalf of the couple’s five children confirming Irwin, 77, and his wife of almost six decades, Alexandra, had died.
“Our family is shocked and devastated by the death of our parents, Irwin and Alexandra Jacobs,” read the statement, which was obtained by The Star Tribune. “We are heartbroken by this loss, and we ask that our privacy be respected as we grieve during this very difficult time.”
A representative for Irwin’s company did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Farniok also noted that police felt there was “no immediate threat to the community” and it was a “contained situation” with no current suspects — stopping short of describing the deaths as a murder-suicide.
“This is an active investigation,” he told reporters on Wednesday. “We are releasing very minimal investigation due to the fact that this investigation is ongoing, but we do want to indicate that we feel there is no immediate threat to the community.”
“We don’t see this very often — in any of our communities, this doesn’t happen,” Farniok added. “We are taking this seriously. We’re looking at it from every aspect.”
Though police were unable to confirm the details around the case, Dennis Mathisen, one of Irwin’s longtime business partners, told The Star Tribune that the prominent businessman had killed his wife of 57 years before turning the gun on himself.
“[Alexandra] had been in a wheelchair for the last year or so and had signs of dementia. Irwin was just distraught over her condition,” he told the publication, adding that he learned of the tragedy after speaking to Irwin’s secretary and son Mark Jacobs.
Mathisen also said he last spoke to his friend just a few days ago and he seemed “upbeat.”
Irwin was well-known in the business world — in part due to his aggressive techniques of buying and liquidating struggling companies, earning himself the nickname of “Irv the Liquidator,” according to The Star Tribune.
In the 1980s, he owned a minority share of the Minnesota Vikings but had sold it by 1991. Throughout his life, he also owned Grain Belt Beer Company and boatmaking company Genmar Holdings Co. — both of which he had since sold, the outlet reports.
At the time of his death, Irwin was the owner of soap and household products company J.R. Watkins Co. in Winona and retail merchandise trading company Jacobs Trading Co.
The father of five was also very much involved in giving back and donated $8 million to the Special Olympics in 1991 — a cause that was particularly important to him and his wife, who shared a daughter with cerebral palsy, according to Fast Forward.
The couple had lived on their lakefront estate for almost 50 years. In 2014, the couple decided to put the home was listed for $22 million.
Irwin told The Star Tribune that he decided to sell the home, despite hoping he would die there one day, because “didn’t want to burden my wife if something happened to me.”
Later in 2014, the home was pulled off the market and the couple decided to just sell some of their 32 acres of land instead, according to Finance & Commerce.
