Jada Pinkett Smith Covers ‘Essence’ March 2019 Issue With Daughter And Mother
Jada Pinkett-Smith joins her daughter, Willow Smith, and mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, on the cover of ESSENCE magazine’s March 2019 issue. This upcoming month is all about girl talk, and who better than Jada, Willow, and Adrienne to serve as experts on the subject?
The three women are quickly becoming household staples with their Red Table Talk series on Facebook Watch. Some believe that Jada, Willow, and Adrienne’s show is filling a void that the Oprah Winfrey Show left when it stopped airing in 2011. Red Table Talk, however, comes with a slightly different approach.
Jada, Willow, and Adrienne are not encouraging their viewers to make dozens of drastic changes to start living their best lives. Instead, the women are calling fans to have honest conversations that pay homage to their past life experiences in hopes of the future being a bit brighter. The talk is definitely turning into a revolution of the sort.
“Everybody has a place at the table because there’s not just one perspective,” Jada tells ESSENCE of her show’s format. “That’s what makes the show awesome to me,” she adds.
Sometimes there are disagreements as to who should be allowed to have “a place at the table.” The most recent discussion on white privilege led Jada onto a bit of a slippery slope in terms of true allies and frenemies. The celebrity mom brought up the instance of Anne Hathaway speaking out after learning of Nia Wilson who was killed by a white man on account of her status as an African-American woman. Anne called for white people such as herself to enact change.
Jada attempted to shed light on the actress as an example of white women who are “allies,” but she was swiftly shut down by her daughter and mother. “It is trust issues,” Willow said during the talk. Adrienne affirmed her granddaughter by saying, “and rightfully so.”
Jada Pinkett-Smith did not give up on her concept but rather proceeded to explain what she meant. “I understand that,” she said. “But at some point, when are we as black women going to be able to recognize an ally,” she asked.
You can catch Red Table Talk every week on Facebook. Read Jada Pinkett-Smith, Willow Smith, and Adrienne Banfield-Norris’ full spread in the March 2019 issue of ESSENCE, which is available on newsstands nationwide this Friday (February 22).

On a recent episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 11 After Show, Kandi reflected on the moment. "When Porsha shared with everybody that she was pregnant in Tokyo, I automatically at that point was like you know what, I'm not gonna contribute to any negativity towards her relationships. Because at the end of the day, regardless of anybody's past or anything, I would love to see them make it, and I would love for them to be a family for their child. So I apologized."
That's Kandi's side of the story, but what does Porsha think? The mama-to-be weighed in on her current relationship with Kandi HERE. Let's just say: these two might not be hugging again anytime soon.
But then again, you never what will go down in Atlanta. To keep up with all the drama, be sure to tune into The Real Housewives of Atlanta every Sunday at 8/7c.
#Empire: As the Rollercoaster Turns……Fox insists Jussie Smollett isn’t being written off ‘Empire’
Fox reiterated Wednesday that it is standing behind embattled “Empire” TV star Jussie Smollett — and insisted that he isn’t being booted off the hit show.
“Jussie Smollett continues to be a consummate professional on set, and as we have previously stated, he is not being written out of the show,” said a statement from 20th Century Fox Television and Fox Entertainment.
The show of support comes a day after reports emerged that scenes featuring Smollett were being drastically cut from the series’ fifth season in wake of the growing controversy around the alleged hate attack against him.
The studio issued a similar statement last week to address rumors that Smollett allegedly staged the Jan. 29 assault because he was being written off “Empire.”
“The idea that Jussie Smollett has been, or would be, written off Empire is patently ridiculous,” Fox said

Tristan Thompson Speaks Out About Allegedly Cheating on Khloe With Jordyn Woods
Tristan Thompson has broken his silence on cheating allegations involving Kylie Jenner's BFF Jordyn Woods.
Reports surfaced on Tuesday claiming that the NBA star had cheated on Khloe Kardashian with the 21-year-old model. According to TMZ, Khloe called it quits with Tristan after learning he allegedly cheated on her with Jordyn, who has modeled for her Good American clothing line. The outlet reports that Tristan flew to Los Angeles to spend Valentine's Day with Khloe and their daughter, True Thompson. But then on Sunday night, the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball player was reportedly at a house party, where he was allegedly spotted making out with Jordyn.
A source tells the outlet that Khloe "has had enough." In response to the allegations, Thompson tweeted and deleted, "FAKE NEWS."
Jordyn has been a very close friend to the Kardashian-Jenner family for many years, even starring alongside her pal in E!'s Life of Kylie.
"When I met Kylie, I was a tomboy," Jordyn told E! News in Aug. 2018. "I didn't wear any makeup. I didn't wear hair extensions or anything. I saw [the Kardashian sisters] do it. And over time after watching Kylie put on makeup, I learned how to do it myself. Now, I really only trust myself to do my makeup."
These allegations come almost a year after Tristan was involved in another cheating scandal, shortly before the birth of baby True. Amid the scandal, Khloe gave birth to their daughter in Cleveland, with the basketball star by her side.
Following True's birth, a source told E! News that Khloe had to decided to give Tristan "another chance."
"Khloe has given Tristan another chance at their relationship, and is trying to put the pieces back together for the sake of True," the insider shared with E! News in May. "Although she is crushed by the scandal, Khloe desperately wants things to work and wants to have a complete family."
Beyoncé & JAY-Z are Banning Social Media presence From their Pre-Oscar Party
Out of respect for the privacy of their guests, The Carters are banning social media snaps during their next big soiree.
Almost two weeks after JAY-Z’s star-studded Roc Nation pre-Grammy brunch, Hov and his superstar wife, Beyoncé, are set to host a huge pre-Oscar’s party ahead of the 91st Annual Academy Awards. The Grio reports that the couple has decided to ban photographs and social media coverage to prevent any “embarrassing snaps.”
“Bey and Jay have put a series of tough measures in place to ensure none of their guests upload any embarrassing snaps from the party,” the source said. “They want to keep the whole thing top secret, and have ordered celebrity guests to leave their own security teams at home so there is space for everybody else.”
‘Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown Discovered He Was a Dad When Son Was 10
Karamo Brown, 38, found out he was a father in an unconventional way. In the reality star’s upcoming memoir, Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing and Hope, he shared the details of learning he had a 10-year-old son, Jason, in 2006.
In an excerpt from the book provided to People, Brown recalled discovering a letter sent to his Los Angeles home requesting $230,000 in back child support.
“On the front page was ‘Texas Attorney General’s Office.’ The second page read, ‘Subpoena for Back Child Support,’” the Queer Eye culture expert remembered. “I thought, Ashton Kutcher is inside my house. I’m getting punked!”
He soon realized his high school friend Stephanie Brooks, who he slept it once at 15, was the mother of the boy. Brooks never told Brown she was pregnant, but a paternity test confirmed he was Jason’s father.
When father and son met, Brown was nervous to meet the young boy because after his stint on MTV’s Real World: Philadelphia, he was using ecstasy and cocaine. His sister allowed him to get clean at her home before meeting his son, according to Page Six.
The 38-year-old recounted his first meeting with Jason:
“[His mother] called, ‘Jason! Come out here! Your dad’s here,’” he wrote. “Jason slowly walked around the corner. There’s something about the first moment of seeing your child. All the pieces of me that I felt were missing got sewn up the minute I saw his face. I looked at this little fourth-grade boy, and I thought, I can do this.”
After spending time with his son, the TV personality moved to Texas to become a dad. Brooks granted Brown custody of Jason thereater. He eventually also began taking care of his son’s younger brother, Christian.
Brown and his boys, who are now 22 and 18, are often spotted on red carpets together.
Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing and Hope goes on sale March 5. Queer Eye Season Three will air on Netflix beginning March 15.

My 600-lb Life' star Sean Milliken dead at 29
"My 600-lb Life" star Sean Milliken died at 29 on Sunday,"TLC is saddened to share that Sean Milliken has passed away," the network told us in a statement. "TLC expresses its deepest sympathies to Sean’s friends and family at this difficult time."
Milliken was hospitalized in Houston, Texas, two days prior for an infection. Milliken's weight soared to 900 pounds before he sought help on "My 600-lb Life."
On the show, Milliken, then 25 and living in Cameron Park, Calif., admitted that he had trouble controlling his emotions and would seek comfort in food when he was under distress, saying his struggle with his weight likely stemmed from his turbulent relationship with his father.
Milliken alleged that his father, Matthew, often screamed in his face and backed him into corners as a child.
“It was scary. So I would eat. And suddenly I felt a lot better,” Milliken said on the show. “In that moment, nothing else mattered.”
Milliken's mother, Renee, confessed she too had an eating disorder and admitted she likely contributed to Sean's struggles, saying in a confessional, “I probably overcompensated in a lot of ways. I couldn’t go to the store without bringing him home a treat."
Milliken's struggles with his weight worsened in high school, when he was up to 400 pounds and suffered a debilitating leg injury that left him bedridden — and in the eight years following the injury, he barely ever left his bed, even relieving himself in a bucket at the end of it, because standing up was so painful.
Milliken appeared on "My 600-lb Life" in 2016.
He suffered from several open sores at that time from his skin tearing under his weight. His mother and a family friend had to work together to bathe him.
A 2017 "Where Are They Now?" special of the series showed that Milliken lost an impressive 400 pounds in an effort to someday undergo gastric bypass surgery, but that his weight loss had plateaued. Some suspected Renee of undermining his efforts to slim down.
Renee passed away in March 2018. Milliken friend and former neighbor, Ashley Boone, said he was "doing OK" before he fell ill, noting, "Sean was a good man and life isn’t always as it seems on a television screen."
Drake and Adele was seen hanging out in Los Angeles!
Drake and Adele hung out together in Los Angeles, and the night consisted of bowling and vaping, TMZ reports.
Sources told the website the musicians kicked off their outing on Sunday by grabbing food at Jerry’s Famous Deli in Studio City, California. The delicatessen is known for its large menu, which offers over 700 items.
Adele, 30, and Drake, 32, then visited Pinz Bowling Center, which was reportedly rented out entirely for the pair and their friends for maximum privacy.
The night ended at the Chill N Vape Lounge, where sources said Drake bought a Juul and pods in mango and peach flavor.
This is the first time Drake and Adele have been spotted spending time together, but the rapper and singer have not been shy about expressing their admiration for each other online.
In October, Adele tweeted that she attended one of Drake’s concerts and he “blew” her mind. “Best production I’ve ever seen hands down and way up there with one of my favorite shows of all time,” she added.
In response to the tweet, Drake commented on Instagram that he had no idea Adele was at his show, and that it was better that way because he would have been “SHOOK.”
After news broke of Drake and Adele’s fun night together, fans speculated whether this meant the duo is working on new music together. Adele and Drake’s reps would not comment on rumors of a collaboration.
Wendy Williams Staff are Worried About Their Jobs, Will she return? In the meantime The Show Will Air Re-Runs!
It's been over a month since it was announced that Wendy Williams would be taking an extended absence of leave from her hit talk show, and the likelihood of her return isn't looking good.
You'll recall, the Williams Family released a statement stating the 54-year-old TV personality was dealing with Graves’ disease complications that developed after she fractured her shoulder. She was hospitalized and received treatment.
Now, the rumor mill claims she's not speaking to any of her employees and they're fearful they could lose their jobs.
“Staff have not heard from Wendy and are concerned for the future of their jobs,” a show insider told RadarOnline. “It has been a struggle.”
During her time off from the show, celeb guest-hosts filled in for her, including Nick Cannon, Keke Palmer and Sherri Shepherd. Well, there will not be anymore guests hosts. It's being reported the show will begin airing re-runs as early as next week.
After going on Holiday hiatus mid December just before Christmas, Wendy, who suffered a shoulder hairline fracture some type of unannounced way, was supposed to return on January 7th. As of now, it's unclear when she'll return.
In addition to her health issues, she also has a marriage crisis on her hands. Folks can't help but wonder if all the talk about her husband Kevin Hunter's alleged mistress' alleged pregnancy is the real culprit taking her out the game for so long.
Wendy never really addressed the initial cheating rumors last year, only gave a smug flash of her wedding ring saying everything's all good. However, the fact that Kevin sold off properties his alleged mistress was living in doesn't help. Also the National Enquirer reported they spoke to Kevin's mother, Pearlet Hunter, who supposedly told them that Kevin allegedly hurt Wendy's shoulder. She went into detail, allegedly, about past and present physical abuse.
Almost a month ago, the day time queen was spotted out for the first time in Florida since announcing her hiatus.
Hopefully, she's getting well, getting her life in order, and setting up for her official season 10 comeback.
Samsung Officially Announces The Galaxy S10 And S10 Plus, Starting At $899
Samsung just announced the 10th iteration of its flagship Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus. I had a brief chance to poke around the S10 and S10 Plus ahead of today’s announcement, and here’s what you should know: these are unmistakably Samsung phones in that they follow the Samsung playbook of maximizing every possible spec, but they do so in a way that seems more elegantly integrated than the last few Galaxy iterations.
Also, they look really nice.
This S10 pair succeeds last year’s Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, and they are also accompanied by a new Galaxy S10E model. All three phones will be available for preorder starting tomorrow, February 21st, and they will start shipping on March 8th. In addition to all four major US carriers, the S10 family will also be available unlocked from Samsung and other retailers, starting at $899.99 for the S10 and $999.99 for the S10 Plus. We have a whole other article dedicated to the S10E, but for everything concerning the S10 and S10 Plus, keep reading.
Continuing Samsung’s years-long effort to eliminate bezels and provide the most screen possible in a device you can hold in your hand, the S10 and S10 Plus’ design centers on 6.1-inch and 6.4-inch screens, respectively, with nary a bezel around them. Both models have considerably larger displays than the S9 and S9 Plus, but their overall dimensions are just a smidge larger than before. In fact, the S10 Plus is actually slightly shorter than the S9 Plus, despite having a 0.2-inch larger display. Still, both of these phones are big, and if you’re at all put off by that, the S10E is more likely up your alley.
Aside from size, the displays on both models are identical: 1440-pixel wide 19:9 OLED panels (with Samsung’s “Dynamic AMOLED” branding) with HDR10+ certification. Both have curved sides that meld into the aluminum frame and make it easier to hold. They are as bright, colorful, and vibrant to view as any prior Samsung screen, and based on what I’ve seen so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung continues to have the best displays available on a phone this year.
The S10 screens have two other special features (one you can see and one you can’t). The one you can see is the new hole-punch cutout for the front camera, which allows Samsung to avoid a notch-style design and still have a front-facing shooter. The S10 Plus has a wider punch for the two cameras on its front; the S10 makes do with a circular one. I’m still not convinced that hole-punch displays are any better than a notch, but given how many people seem to irrationally hate notches, Samsung is here for them.
The feature you can’t see is the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner that’s embedded below the screen, which replaces the traditional capacitive scanner that used to be found on the back of the S9. Samsung claims this scanner is the “most advanced” one on the market, and it’s more reliable, harder to spoof, and generally better performing than the optical-based scanners used in the OnePlus 6T and other phones. I was only able to test the new scanner briefly, but it did work remarkably well at reading my thumb and unlocking the phone quickly. My colleague Vlad Savov has more to say on it here, and we’ll be doing more extensive testing in our forthcoming review.
One downside to an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is that it can’t work through thick screen protectors, so Samsung is certifying certain third-party screen protectors that have been tested to work with the S10. We’ll have to see what those look like when they are released, but the short of the matter is: don’t expect many tempered glass options for the S10.
The Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner Might Not Work With Your Favorite Screen Protector
In terms of build quality and feel, these are perhaps the most premium Samsung phones ever released. They are lovely to hold and even more lovely to look at, even though they are big and perhaps unwieldy to use in one hand. Samsung is still using aluminum for its frames, which doesn’t have quite the same appeal as the stainless steel that Apple uses on the iPhone XS and XS Max. The S10 Plus will be available with a ceramic back option, upping its aesthetic and tactile qualities.
The S10 and S10 Plus both have the same rear camera systems: a three-lens array that provides wide, super wide, and telephoto framing options at the touch of a button. The wide and telephoto cameras are the same ones that were found on last year’s S9 Plus, with 12-megapixel sensors and optically stabilized lenses. The telephoto lens has an f/2.4 aperture, while the wide camera has the same aperture-switching system that debuted last year and allows for switching between f/1.5 and f/2.4. The new ultra wide camera offers a 123-degree field of view through an f/2.2 lens and has a 16-megapixel sensor. Unfortunately, it is a fixed-focus lens that lacks autofocus. But at those super wide angles, that shouldn’t be that much of a problem.
The S10 is not the first phone to offer a triple-camera system — LG did it on the V40 last year — but it’s still an intriguing proposition: here is a whole camera bag full of lenses built into the back of your phone, and you can switch between them on the fly. We will have to see how well they perform in practice, but in my limited time using the S10 ahead of today’s announcement, switching between the cameras was quick and easy in the camera app. I do wish Samsung had pushed the envelope with its actual sensor technology more than it seems to have done — we’re seeing numerous phones come out this year with staggering 48-megapixel sensors — but I’m holding out hope that I’ll be pleasantly surprised by its performance once I have more time with it.
There are a couple of new software features related to the camera: an expanded set of “Scene Optimizer” selections that can automatically identify 30 different scenes and optimize the camera’s settings for them, and a new “Shot Suggestion” feature that can help fix poorly framed photos.
For video recording, the S10 supports 4K UHD recording on both the front and rear cameras, and it can record in HDR10+. There’s also a new “super steady video” mode for smoother footage. The iPhone remains the leader when it comes to video recording, but we’ll see if Samsung has been able to make up any ground this year.
The S10’s front camera has been upgraded to 10 megapixels, with an f/1.9 aperture lens and dual-pixel autofocus. The S10 Plus has a second, 8-megapixel front camera that it uses for improved depth sensing and portrait modes. Unlike the Pixel 3, the S10 Plus’ second front camera does not offer a wider field of view; it is used solely for depth effects. Samsung says the standard S10 will also have portrait mode features, though they will not be as “advanced” as what’s on the S10 Plus.
Inside, the S10 and S10 Plus have the Snapdragon 855 processor (in the US, other regions will see a Samsung Exynos processor), between 8GB and 12GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage in the S10 Plus. Both models start at 128GB of storage and have support for microSD card expansion as well. Battery capacities have gone up since last year — it appears Samsung has fully shaken off its fears of high-capacity batteries following the Note 7 debacle in 2016 — with the S10 featuring a 3,400mAh cell and the S10 Plus featuring a massive 4,100mAh battery. Both models support fast wired and wireless charging, and they have the ability to charge a second device, such as the new Galaxy Buds wireless headphones, through their back panels.
Unsurprisingly, the S10 and S10 Plus’ feature lists don’t end there: they also have IP68 water and dust resistance, 3.5mm headphone jacks, and support for Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, and 2Gbps LTE (but not 5G; that’ll be in another S10 variant arriving later this year). The S10 is launching with Android 9 Pie and Samsung’s new One UI interface, which just recently arrived on the S9 models. And, yes, it still has a Bixby button that launches Bixby and does Bixby stuff. Samsung says it has developed new routines for Bixby, so we’ll have to see how well they work in practice, but it also seems like you’ll be able to remap the button to something more useful. Finally.
Overall, the S10 and S10 Plus seem to be solid, if a bit iterative, updates on what is very likely to be the most popular Android phone this year. They aren’t as groundbreaking or ahead of the pack as say, the Galaxy S8 was two years ago, but they take Samsung’s strengths and push them further. We will have to see how all of these changes work out in practice when we have a chance to properly review the S10 and S10 Plus, but for now, things are looking promising
