Inyanla Vanzant says OH NO MAâAM to R Kelly appearing on her Show!
Lawd, Sheâs not going to do the âworkâ: R. Kellyâs life has been under a microscope since the premiere of the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly. Considering the singerâs own history of abuse and how that couldâve affected his relationships with girls and young women, many wondered if life coach Iyanla Vanzant would be willing to work with the Grammy winner.
The OWN personality recently revealed that Kelly, in fact, reached out to her for help via Iyanla: Fix My Life. She turned him down, however, because she didnât believe he was truly ready to face his demons.
âHe didnât meet one of the criteria that we had for guests. Are they willing? Are they ready? Do they have the capacity to do the work? He didnât have it, the emotional capacity,â said Vanzant, âHe just didnât have it, and I knew, based on what I was looking atâthe paces I would have had to take him thoâit would have been brutal. He didnât have the capacity because he hasnât done the work.â
Vanzant also believes locking up the âI Wishâ singer wouldnât solve the underlying problem.
âI would never, ever condone or justify anything that heâs been accused of doing. But locking him up in jail is not the answer ⌠heâs sick ⌠Just like the people he allegedly committed these acts withâtheyâre sick. This needs to be massive healingâthem, him all of them.â
She went on, âBut I do know, without some long-term intervention, he doesnât have the capacity. Just wouldnât be able to hear it, receive it. Classic thing is that heâs not telling the truth about it.â
Should Inyanla just have him on her show, or NAH?
