Will Smith reassures fans that his genie will be blue in ‘Aladdin’ live action movie
Will Smith has responded to critics of his Genie costume after a first look image was released yesterday.
The CGI remake is directed by Guy Ritchie and will star Mena Massoud as Aladdin, British star Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine and Will Smith as the iconic Genie.
A short teaser trailer was released earlier this year and yesterday (December 19), images of the main cast, including Smith, was shared by Entertainment Weekly – causing much derision.
Fans were quick to criticise Smith’s costume, including his lack of blue skin. In the 1992 original, Robin Williams voiced a Genie with bright blue skin.
However, Smith has now assured fans that his skin will be blue in the final cut of the film. Writing on Instagram, the actor wrote: “Check me rockin’ the top knot ponytail vibes (and YES, I’m gonna be blue!) This is how the Genie is in Human / Disguise form. My character will be CGI most of the movie”
The film is set for release on May 24, 2019.
Meanwhile, the Will Smith starring ‘Rewind 2018’ YouTube clip has become one of the most disliked videos in the site’s history.
The round-up videos have featured on the site since 2010, highlighting the cultural and musical moments that defined the past twelve months.
In 2018’s version famous YouTubers are featured – along with Will Smith. However, many viewers were less than impressed – with the clip having gathered an enormous 13 million dislikes in its short lifespan.
Despite the hate, YouTube issued a statement saying they are happy with it.
“Every year when we release our Rewind video, our number one goal is getting the community to engage with it,” a spokesperson added. “This includes liking and disliking the video. With millions of comments, millions of likes and dislikes, and more than 100M views, we’re pleased with the results.”
Folks need to get over themselves!
#RHoA: OOOH LOOK! Kandi Burruss Hangs with Sheree Whitfield!
Earlier this week, just days after NeNe Leakes spent time with Phaedra Parks and called for her to come back to the Bravo TV reality show, Kandi Burruss shared a photo of herself with former cast member Sheree Whitfield in what some are calling a tit for tat.
As most RHOA fans are aware, Kandi and Phaedra have bad blood between them, while NeNe and Sheree do not get along. Also, NeNe and Kandi, while cordial, are not exactly the best of friends.
“Thanks [Dallas Austin] for the invite to your #DiamondsAndCocktails party. Great vibes, great time, & Great people!” Kandi wrote in the caption of the photo below, which included herself, Sheree, and several others.
Kandi also shared a photo from the event that included just her and Sheree.
In response to Kandi’s post, Sheree re-grammed the image and wrote, “Enjoyed ya!”
After seeing the images Kandi shared, her fans and followers began flooding her with comments about Sheree’s potential return to the show.
One fan even said, “I feel like something is brewing.”
“I miss the original cast being together,” another added.
“You need your peach back!! I have not seen an episode since you have left.”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta season 11 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on Bravo TV.
#Empire: How Empire Will Be Different After That Huge Midseason Finale
Showrunner Brett Mahoney told Deadline that Empire's next phase will be focused on Lucious potentially coming clean with his side of the story about Kingsley's origins, and how Cookie and others will handle this shake-up to the family tree.
In general, here's what Brett Mahoney said the narrative thrust will be for the remainder of Season 5 leading up to the big reveals.
The question will become if the Lyons retake Empire, what will it cost them? We've seen through the first half of the season the Lyons come together and appear where they've gone back to where they were underdogs and back to trying to launch something new and create something new. OK, but if they get back Empire, what will it mean for their relationships? Because, previously, we've seen them drawn together, but at what cost will it take for them to retake the throne?
Something tells me Cookie won't be impressed if Andre's death is included in the cost of keeping Empire in the O.G. Lyon family. I can't wait to see how she handles everything else, though.
Empire is on its winter hiatus, but it will return to Fox and its fans in 2019. Stay tuned for an exact premiere date, and keep current with all the new and returning shows hitting fall TV and midseason 2019.

#HipHopNews: J. Cole's "KOD" Goes Platinum
J. Cole’s latest studio album, KOD, has officially reached platinum status without a single feature aside from Cole’s alter-ego, Kill Edward. Chart Data tweeted the announcement on Thursday morning (December 20).
KOD was released in April and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with roughly 397,000 total album equivalent units sold in its first week. It also broke streaming records on both Apple Music and Spotify with over 1 billion streams combined.
The RIAA included KOD on its list of 2018’s Best RIAA Gold & Platinum Awards. Other platinum albums that made the list are Cardi B’s Invasion Of Privacy, Post Malone’s beerbongs and bentleys, Travis Scott’s Astroworld, Eminem’s Kamikaze and Black Panther: The Album.
A total of 33 albums and 151 songs were certified gold or platinum this year.
Cindy Williams pays tribute to Penny Marshall, her ‘Laverne & Shirley’ co-star: ‘She’s like my sister’
The accolades came pouring in Tuesday after news broke out that Penny Marshall had died at the age of 75. Notably missing, however, were any tributes from Cindy Williams,
Marshall’s “Laverne & Shirley” co-star broke her silence Wednesday with a statement to a number of news outlets. She had only glowing praise for Marshall.
“What an extraordinary loss. My good friend Penny Marshall is gone — one in a million,” she said. “Utterly unique, a truly great talent. And, oh, what fun we had! Can’t describe how I’ll miss her.”
The 71-year-old actress also tweeted a simple message of, “I Love You, Partner,” along with an image of the iconic “L” worn by Marshall’s character from their show.
Marshall and Williams played BFFs Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney, respectively, in the highly rated ABC sitcom from 1976-83. The “Happy Days” spinoff became TV’s No. 1 show about midway through its run.
But Williams left the show before the conclusion of its eighth season. She had become pregnant with her first child and got into a dispute with Paramount, the show’s distributor.
People hinted that there might have been some acrimony between the stars following Williams’ abrupt exit.
“It was all insanity,” Marshall had said. “I was going out in front of the audience and they said, ‘What happened with Cindy?’ It was a drag. She said they didn’t want her back. There was all this garbage that was said, but no, it was (her then-husband Bill Hudson) … I missed her not being there.”
Said Williams, “I had recently gotten married and I was pregnant and I thought I was going to come back and they’d hide me behind benches, couches, pillows, and that wasn’t it. When it came time for me to sign my contract for that season, they had me working on my due date to have my baby and I said, ‘I can’t sign this,’ and it went back and forth and back and forth and it just never got worked out.”
If there were indeed problems between Marshall and Williams, they managed to work through them.
“It was a show about happiness and, in the end, that was everyone’s goal,” Williams said.
She added, “I go to Penny’s house, I get in bed with her and we watch TV. She’s like my sister.”
The actresses even reunited for an episode of Nickelodeon’s “Sam & Cat” in 2013.
Marshall found success behind the camera following the conclusion of “Laverne & Shirley.” She directed such hits as “Big,” “Awakenings,” “A League of Their Own” and “The Preacher’s Wife.”
In 1998, “Big” starring Tom Hanks became the first film directed by a woman to gross more than $100 million.
Marshall died of complications from diabetes, according to a family spokeswoman.
Janet and Randy Jackson Reportedly Sued by Former Tour Manager for $300K
Janet and her brother Randy Jackson are being sued by their former tour manager Danny O’Donovan over unpaid wages.
According to TMZ reports, Danny O’Donovan has filed new legal docs claiming Janet and Randy hired him in July 2016 to be the tour manager for the “State of the World Tour.” According to docs, obtained by TMZ, Danny says the Jacksons agreed to pay him $25k per month and he ended up working for 17 months.
In docs, O’Donovan says everything was fine and dandy ’cause they paid him each month for the first 5 months, but then the payments stopped. O’Donovan says he completed his duties over the remaining 12 months … so he’s suing to get what he says he’s owed — $300k.
No comment from the Jackson camp!

On February 3, Travis Scott will join Maroon 5 for the Super Bowl halftime show in Atlanta, and of course, according to TMZ, the “Sicko Mode” rapper ill be accompanied by his baby mama, Kylie Jenner.
In the meantime, sources say the group is also in talks with other celebs, including Cardi B and Outkast’s Big Boi, but according to Variety, Cardi already declined to perform for free as a second act to the group.

Michelle Obama Says She Knew Her ‘Clothes Would Be Making a Statement,’ Chose Designers Based on Energy
NEW YORK (AP) — For Michelle Obama, choosing what designer to wear while she was in the White House involved many factors, from diversity to whether they were a nice person.
Obama talked the decisions behind the outfits that made headlines during her time as first lady during a conversation with another fashion trendsetter, Sarah Jessica Parker, who was the moderator for the Wednesday night event for Obama’s “Becoming” book tour.
During Obama’s eight years as first lady, she became a powerful influence in fashion; she could wear a dress and it would sell out hours after she wore it.
Obama — who dressed in a gold wrap dress with above-the-knee gold sparkling boots for Wednesday’s event — said she knew as a woman, her clothes would be dissected and mentioned no matter how weighty the topic she was talking about.
“I did know that my clothes were making a statement, I knew that was the case,” she said. “So we decided why don’t we use this platform to uplift some young new designers who normally wouldn’t get this kind of attention, because you can change their lives, which is one of the reasons why we chose Jason Wu for my inaugural gown.”
She also said Wu didn’t expect it, unlike some big designers who felt as if they should have the honor.
“You learn that there are people in this scene who feel entitled to these things because they’ve done it for a while, and I hated that feeling . there are whole lot of people out here who are trying to make it, there are young women and immigrants and black folk.”
Obama also said personal energy of a designer mattered.
“I didn’t want to wear the clothes of someone who didn’t have a good spirit, and you could hear these things, you could hear how they treated my staff or how they treated their works, so everyone I wore as far as I knew had a good spirit as well,” she said.
Parker and Obama spoke for more than an hour before a sold-out audience at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It was the last date on the first leg of her “Becoming: An Intimate Conversation with Michelle Obama” tour which has sold out at arenas across the country. It is matched in popularity with her “Becoming” book, which has sold more than three million copies since its release last month.
During the wide-ranging conversation, Obama only briefly mentioned the Trumps by name but jokingly alluded to the investigations involving the Trump administration. Obama said as the first black president of the United States, former President
La La and Carmelo Anthony Are Officially Back Together After 2017 Split
Nearly two years after Lala Anthony quietly pulled the plug on her marriage to Carmelo Anthony, sources tell Us Weekly that the two are officially back on.
“La La and Carmelo have recently reconciled, and they truly love one another,” a source close to the actress told the publication. “It’s so obvious when they’re together.”
Back in April 2017, the two quietly called it quits over claims of infidelities and trade talks ahead of Melo’s move to Oklahoma City, which sources claimed to have been “extremely stressful on the marriage.” At the time, Anthony moved out of the couple’s family home, but never filed for divorce.
One year later, Anthony revealed to PEOPLE that the two were still “figuring out how to make it work for what is best for Kiyan and what is best for us.” But now, it appears the two are ready to put the drama behind them and move on, for good.
“They also both want what’s best for their son and are committed to being a family,” sources said of the couple’s reconciliation.
Although Lala’s ring finger is still bare, the two have been packing on the PDA in recent months, from their private dinners in NYC to Melo’s support of Lala’s annual Winter Wonderland holiday charity event in the Bronx.
Darren Criss says he won’t play gay characters anymore
Darren Criss, who played Blaine Anderson in “Glee” and Andrew Cunanan in “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” is done taking on LGBTQ roles for a good reason.
“There are certain [queer] roles that I’ll see that are just wonderful,” the 31-year-old actor told Bustle, of his previous gay characters. “But I want to make sure I won’t be another straight boy taking a gay man’s role.”
While Criss says playing those queer roles has “been a real joy,” he explains that he doesn’t want to be a part of Hollywood’s lack of LGBTQ representation, and doesn’t feel comfortable taking those roles away from those within the queer community.
Calling his discomfort “unfortunate, he explains, “The real reason I say that is because getting to play those characters is inherently a wonderful dramatic experience.”
He added, “It has made for very, very compelling and interesting people.”
Hollywood’s lack of LGBTQ representation is substantial, with GLAAD’s “Where We Are on TV” report finding that out of 857 series regular characters that will appear on primetime scripted shows on CBS, NBC, Fox, ABC, and The CW, only 74 were LGBTQ in the 2018-2019 TV season.
Defense Secretary Mattis To Retire In February!
Defense Secretary James Mattis, a living Marine Corps legend who made history by securing special permission from Congress to lead the Pentagon, is stepping down after a slow freeze-out by President Trump.
The president made the announcement via Twitter Thursday evening.
"General Jim Mattis will be retiring, with distinction, at the end of February, after having served my Administration as Secretary of Defense for the past two years," Trump wrote.
"General Mattis was a great help to me in getting allies and other countries to pay their share of military obligations. A new Secretary of Defense will be named shortly. I greatly thank Jim for his service!," the president also wrote in a second tweet about the departure.
General Jim Mattis will be retiring, with distinction, at the end of February, after having served my Administration as Secretary of Defense for the past two years. During Jim’s tenure, tremendous progress has been made, especially with respect to the purchase of new fighting....
Mattis' departure completes a near-wholesale shake-up of Trump's initial national security team and follows a record-setting series of departures of administration leaders so early in a presidency.
Of Trump's initial top national security or diplomatic policy advisers, only Secretary of State Mike Pompeo — who began as CIA director — and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley remain — and Haley is set to depart the administration soon as well.
The dismissal followed an abrupt decision by Trump this week to withdraw American troops from Syria, over the objections of many of the president's military and national security advisers.
And it also followed the publication of a book by Bob Woodward that described Mattis as deeply frustrated with Trump, likening his understanding to that of a fifth- or sixth-graders, and being put into uncomfortable positions by the president's sometime outbursts.
At one point, Woodward describes Trump calling Mattis and ordering him to assassinate Syrian President Bashar Assad; Mattis, according to the account, agreed to "get right on that" but ultimately brought about much more measured low-level cruise missile attack.
In the wake of the reports, Mattis said, "The contemptuous words about the president attributed to me in Woodward's book were never uttered by me or in my presence. While I generally enjoy reading fiction, this is a uniquely Washington brand of literature, and his anonymous sources do not lend credibility."
But on Thursday, Mattis wrote in a resignation letter that he felt he could no longer continue to execute Trump's policies.
"Because you have the right to have a secretary of defense whose views are better aligned with yours ... I believe it is right for me to step down from my position," he wrote.
Mattis' letter cited his support for America's "unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships." Trump's brusque approach to those international relationships, Mattis wrote, is one reason why the defense secretary feels he must step down.

Beyoncé Shares Intimate Photos of the Twins From India Getaway
Beyoncé rarely shows off the twins, but is giving fans an inside look on her family’s fun times during the holidays.
The “Top Off” singer shared some recent photos on her personal website from her time away in India which included some sweet moments with Rumi and Sir Carter.
In one photo, Queen Bey is holding her daughter on a sandy beach as Rumi plays with a colorful shell. The other moment captured is of both kids at sunset, preciously staring out at the ocean.
Beyoncé traveled to India earlier this month to perform for a pre-wedding event for the richest man in India’s daughter’s wedding, but just released the photos today.
Bey and Jay-Z’s 1½-year-old twins regularly tag around with mom and dad when they work. Over the summer, Bey posted some adorable pictures of the kids from their European leg of their “On The Run II” tour.
While Rumi and Sir are hardly ever seen on Mama Bey’s personal page, their older sister, Blue Ivy, is a total ham and makes frequent appearances.
Nicki Minaj’s Ex-Stylist Calls BS on Rapper’s $12,000 Lawsuit, Demands Judge Shut Her Down
Nicki Minaj‘s former stylist is demanding the rapper’s $12,000 lawsuit against him be tossed out, saying she is full of it.
On December 17, Maher Jridi filed court documents in response to the recent lawsuit Minaj filed against him, claiming she overpaid him and he refused to return the cash.
Minaj claimed to have been trying to collect on the alleged overpayment for months but he denies this allegation completely.
He also denies ever acknowledging he was overpaid or that he promised to return it. Jridi wants Minaj’s lawsuit to be thrown out and his original $72,000 case against her to continue on.
Jridi actually sued Minaj first, accusing her of refusing to return expensive clothes he had borrowed from a third party.
The stylist says he worked with Minaj during 2017 and claims to have rented a bunch of outfits from a wardrobe company for her. He claims to have spent thousands on the rental clothes but never was reimbursed.
In his suit, he explained since he never returned the clothing, the company sued him and won a $74k judgment. The stylist accused Minaj of refusing to pay the bill and causing him emotional damage.
Last month, Nicki Minaj counter-sued the man claiming she overpaid him to the tune of $12,000 and said he promised to repay but never did.
She denied his claims of refusing to return clothes and demanded his suit be dismissed.
Both cases are ongoing.
