The Daily Buzz For April 9 ☕📰☕

Samuel L Jackson covers Vogue Man Arabia
Hollywood star Samuel L Jackson has been dubbed the coolest man in Hollywood by Vogue Man Arabia for their latest Issue. In the interview, the A-list star speaks to the magazine about the movie that made him into a big star, how finding success at a later age was a good thing, the future of America and the Black Panther movement.

Read excerpts from the interview below:

On the movie that changed his career for the better: Actually, here’s the thing, Bruce Willis and I were doing Die Hard with a Vengeance when Pulp Fiction came out and we went to Cannes together to watch Pulp Fiction play for the first time. We both thought, ‘Wow, this is great!’ and Bruce said, ‘Yeah, this is good and this film will make you recognizable, but Die Hard’s going to make you a star. Die Hard will change your life.’ And it’s true. Die Hard with a Vengeance was the highest-grossing film in the world that year. That changed the agenda.
On how not finding success until his mid-40s was a good thing: I was sober when it happened so that helped a lot. If it had happened sooner in my life, I would have found a way to mess it up. Being sober and understanding who I was, and what I wanted to do, and how I wanted to shape the trajectory of my career, was a result of me being more mature, but I always attribute it to my sobriety and not listening to everything people say when they tell you how great you are.

On if he is hopeful for the future of America: I’d like to be. The stance that young people are taking on guns and violence in schools is very encouraging. They’ve found their voice. A lot of those young people are going to be of voting age by 2020. They can change the dynamic around the country. Their voices will be heard. They’re registering to vote in record numbers and recognizing that they do have power in numbers and that their actions can be effective in getting rid of the people who are standing in their way.
On Marvel’s Black Panther being seen as a key moment in the positive portrayal of black people in lead roles: I’m not positive that Black Panther is going to change the dynamic of black stories being told in Hollywood and being accepted all over the world. It’s an action-adventure story and a lot of people like those, and they’ll work all over the world forever because everybody loves a hero. But not everybody loves a drama about somebody’s life experience – that’s why awards have a separate category for foreign films; they are perceived as being different. Once we stop perceiving them as different and just see them as good films and they get recognized in the same category, we’ll be laying markers.

#RHoA: So Kim Zolciak was not ASKED BACK while Sheree was FIRED?
Hmmmmm, That sounds strange. Well we al know about Sheree getting the AX but get this Kim Zolciak won’t be returning for Season 11 either, but instead of stating she was fired, it just says she hasn’t been asked back. Zolciak didn’t return as a full-time Housewife like Sheree did, so perhaps that’s where the distinction comes from, I guess. Everyone else on the cast is expected to return for Season 11 — even Eva Marcille, who has received mixed reactions since she joined the cast during Season 10.

None of the ladies have directly commented on the news of Sheree’s alleged firing, but some of the cast have made some interesting comments and posts.

Porsha Williams posted a tweet that makes you wonder if this news is true or not. Shortly after the news broke, Williams tweeted, “Karma,” alongside a peach emoji. It would make sense for Porsha to be pleased with this news, considering that she and Sheree butted heads quite a bit during Season 10.

Urban Belle Mag captured screenshots that a fan-run RHOA account captured, in which NeNe Leakes and Kenya Moore both appeared to throw a little shade toward the alleged former cast members. Kim and Sheree created a formidable alliance with each other and made quite a few enemies during Season 10.

The fan account reposted Porsha’s “karma” tweet and captioned it, “You betta tell us what’s the tea #PorshaWilliams. Who lost their [peach emoji] sis?” The screenshot posted by Urban Belle Mag shows that Porsha liked the post. NeNe Leakes liked it as well, but she also commented.

“Yassssssssss GAWD @porsha4real Smokey and the Bandit tried it…by girls.”

NeNe’s comment suggests that the rumors that Sheree and Kim have been let go are true. Kenya Moore also posted, but appears to have deleted a meme which she captioned, “Karma. You can never win when you’re dirty.”

It’s also possible that the cast is just trying to drum up attention for their reunion episodes, which will air in the coming weeks. Season 10’s ratings fell substantially from Season 9. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

#EMPIRE: A Little Dip in the ratings but still won the Night!
The Lyons are still continuing to rule The EMPIRE! Fox’s Empire this Wednesday drew 5.5 million total viewers and a 1.7 rating, slipping three tenths in the demo to match its series low, yet still eking out the nightly win over CBS’ Survivor.

Leading out of that, Star (4.3 mil/1.3) was down two tenths from its own midseason premiere.

CBS | Survivor (8.2 mil/1.6) and Criminal Minds (5.9 mil/1.0 out of an NCIS rerun) each dipped a tenth.

ABC | Alex, Inc. (3.8 mil/0.9) slipped two tenths from its premiere, The Goldbergs (5.4 mil/1.3) and American Housewife (4.6 mil/1.2) each dipped a tenth, Modern Family (5.5 mil/1.5) ticked up and Designated Survivor (3.9 mil/0.7) was steady.

King Kendrick’s Billboard 200 reign resumes. Black Panther: The Album, which he curated, is holding strong at No. 3 after topping the coveted albums chart.

Cardi B Reveals Her Pregnancy On ‘SNL’
Live from New York, it’s Cardi B! Fresh off the release of her debut album Invasion of Privacy, Cardi B took over “SNL” as musical guest and officially revealed her pregnancy to the world.

Following an introduction from host Chadwick Boseman, Bardi delivered a medley of “Bodak Yellow” and “Bartier Cardi” for her first performance of the evening. Rocking short wavy green hair, white cat-eye sunglasses, and a feathery black-and-white outfit to hide her pregnant belly, the Bronx bombshell launched into a Spanish version of her chart-topping smash on the iconic Studio 8H stage.
Surrounded by her four female dancers, matching in black and white, Cardi continued with her platinum-selling single “Bartier Cardi.”

“We sinnin’ tonight and we goin’ to church tomorrow. Hallelujah!” she told the crowd.
During her second performance of “Be Careful,” Cardi confirmed her not-so-secret pregnancy. Dressed in white, the camera opened with her singing into a mic before panning down to reveal her pregnant belly. This time, she was wearing a form-fitting gown that clearly showed off her baby bump instead of hiding it.

Cardi has remained mum about pregnancy rumors up until now. She and her fiancé Offset are reportedly expecting a baby in July

Lorde Issues An Apology For Her Whitney Houston Bathtub Post
Lorde is in hot water over her Instagram post where she unintentionally appeared to be mocking Whitney Houston‘s death.
She took the post down and issued an apology.
What in the HELL was she thinking when she posted that foolishness.

Solange Goes Tastefully Topless On Instagram and Fans Are Loving It
Ever the eclectic fashion staple, singer Solange Knowles stayed true to herself when she posed topless on Instagram Thursday, April 5.

The “Don’t Touch My Hair” performer stood in a room with an unmade bed and a packed bookcase wearing nothing but black pants with her long hair beaded from top to bottom. The style was the perfect accessory to cover her breasts so as not to have the picture pulled from the photo-based social media platform.
It was one of three photos shot by 25-year-old photographer Renell Medrano and it got the most likes of all the pics by far — more than 255,000.
“Drippin’ in finesse!” someone commented.

“Amazing! Love it! Beautiful xoxoxoxo,” wrote another.

A ‘Hidden Figures’ TV Series In The Works?
The lives of mathematicians Dorothy Vaughn, Mary Jackson and Katherine Johnson were so beautifully displayed in the 2016 hit film Hidden Figures that it may just become the subject of a new TV series.
According to S&A, the executive producers of the film—Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping—are reportedly in the “early stages of development” on a scripted drama with National Geographic (Nat Geo).

Hidden Figures starred actresses Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae as three women who broke racial boundaries as human computers at NASA.  Each one served as the brains behind America’s race against Russia to put a man in space and quickly rose the ranks of the national space program. The film was very well received and earned Spencer an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
Nat Geo has found success in the scripted series arena with the show Genius, which earned 10 Emmy nominations.

We will keep you posted as this project continues to develop.

Riri rocked a sexy, edgy look courtesy of VERSACE. Her FALL 2018 black strapless leather mini dress featured a belted waistline & crossover skirt. The fit in the bust looks a little too right but Riri still nailed her look.

'A Quiet Place' Delivered a LOUD $50 Million Dollar Opening at The Box Office!
With a $50 million debut, Paramount's A Quiet Place finished atop the weekend box office in impressive fashion and while Universal's Blockers didn't deliver even half of what A Quiet Place did, the film's $21 million debut was a solid start for the low budget R-rated comedy. The weekend also saw a very strong hold for Warner Bros.'s Ready Player One and Disney and Marvel's Black Panther topped Titanic this weekend to become the third highest grossing domestic release of all-time.

Paramount's horror/thriller A Quiet Place debuted with an estimated $50 million, topping the weekend box office and delivering the year's second largest three-day opening. The $17 million production was written and directed by John Krasinski who also starred in the feature alongside Emily Blunt, and it received nearly unanimous praise from critics while opening weekend audiences gave the film a "B+" CinemaScore. The opening weekend audience breakdown was 49% male vs. 51% female with 63% of the crowd coming in aged 25 or older. As for that $50 million figure, don't be surprised to see it climb a million or so once actuals arrive on Monday afternoon.

Looking ahead, the film's debut is larger than any film in the Conjuring franchise, topping the $41 million debut for The Conjuring and $40 million debut for its sequel. Both films went on to gross over $100 million with The Conjuring topping $135 million. The film's opening is also much higher than the $40 million debut for the smash hit Split, which went on to deliver nearly $140 million domestically just last year. Overall, the film's opening is one of the best all-time for a horror film, besting all but Paranormal Activity 3 in the Paranormal franchise, all the Insidious films and more.

Internationally, A Quiet Place rolled out in 40 markets this weekend and brought in an estimated $21 million, for a global debut over $70 million. Leading the way was the UK with an estimated $3.6 million followed by Mexico ($2.7m); Australia ($2m); Brazil ($1.9m); and Taiwan ($1.1m). Paramount reports the film's opening in these markets on a "like for like basis" is 79% ahead of Get Out, 70% ahead of Don't Breathe, 46% ahead of Lights Out, 14% ahead of The Conjuring and on par with Split. Major markets where the film has yet to open include Russia, Korea and Germany where it will release on April 12, followed by releases in Spain (April 20), France (June 20) and Japan (Oct 19).

Black Panther Sinks Titanic, Becoming Third Top-Grossing Title of All Time in U.S.
Black Panther has been breaking records left and right, and today there’s word that Marvel’s most successful film yet has broken a new one, replacing Titanic as the third top-grossing film of all-time in the United States.
Finishing out last weekend with an astounding $659.3 million (and still climbing), it has now beaten out Titanic, which has a lifetime gross of $659.5 million. Meanwhile, it’s in the Number 10 spot worldwide, currently sitting at $1.29 billion internationally, and again, still climbing.

And they say people of color won’t sell overseas. (Doesn’t Hollywood know that people of color are the majority in other places?)
Black Panther now gives Disney two of the three top-grossing films in the U.S., with Star Wars: The Force Awakens still sitting in the top spot with $936.7 million. It’s also taken away one of James Cameron’s two contributions to the Top Three, leaving only Avatar in second place with $760.5 million.

A little over $100 million to take the Number Two spot? You got this, Black Panther. Get it.

1 Person Dead, Firefighters Injured In Fire At Trump Tower In New York
One man died in a four-alarm fire that broke out at the Trump Tower in New York on Saturday evening.
Six firefighters from the Fire Department of New York were also injured while responding to the blaze, an FDNY official said in a press briefing.

The fire started on the 50th floor of the building before 6 p.m. EDT, fire department officials told NBC New York. Eric Trump, the executive vice president of the Trump Organization, said in a tweet that the fire was in a “residential apartment.”

FDNY initially reported that it was responding to a three-alarm fire with no injuries at 6:27 p.m., but upgraded the level to a four-alarm fire 30 minutes later. Officials also said firefighters had found a 50-year-old man seriously injured in the apartment, according to CBS News.

FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said at a press conference that at least four firefighters sustained injuries: Two had burns and another two had “other types of injuries.” FDNY later confirmed with HuffPost that two additional firefighters were injured.
At 7:57 p.m., FDNY declared that the fire was under control. While the fire may have been put out earlier, fire officials do not consider it “under control” until smoke conditions improve, officials said.

About 200 firefighters and first responders were on the scene.
FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said at a press conference that an entire apartment on the 50th floor was on fire. Firefighters found the civilian in the apartment, who is currently in critical condition.
Nigro said it was “a very difficult fire,” adding that “the rest of the building had a considerable amount of smoke.”
Fifteen minutes after FDNY’s first tweet, President Donald Trump claimed the fire had already been put out and thanked the fire department. Trump also complimented the “well built building.”

The president was not in the building at the time, but secret services escorted firefighters to his penthouse to investigate the fire.
His son, Eric Trump, also thanked FDNY and the New York Police Department for responding to the incident.
