Michael B. Jordan Discusses “Black Panther” & Relationships In Wall Street Journal Magazine
The Wall Street Journal Magazine have released their first issue of the year and Michael B. Jordan is one of the cover stars alongside Jessica Chastain.
In a chat with WSJ’s Jason Gay, The star of one of the most anticipated movies this year “Black Panther” revealed how he had to gain up to 20 pounds of muscle in preparation for the movie.
He also spoke about his relationship status as well as the present state of the Hollywood industry.
Read excerpts below:
On gaining 20 pounds for “Black Panther“:
Chest, shoulders, back. My legs a little bit, my quads. I was just, like, massive…It’s a job, man…You really have to diet. It’s hard to be social. You have to drink a gallon and a half of water. When you’re drinking a gallon and a half of water a day, you know how many times you have to use the bathroom? It’s annoying.
On his relationship status:
Dating, but technically single. L.A. isn’t the best place to date…No offense to L.A.
On the current state of Hollywood in 2018:
It’s the best time to be a person of color in Hollywood who’s creative and has original projects. Everybody wants that right now. That’s how I feel – I feel like it’s a timing thing. I’m ambitious. I see what actors I look up to have, the types of platforms they have and their ability to create and tell stories they want — I want that. Why not?
Former 'RHOA' Star DeShawn Snow Dropped 30 Pounds and Gained a Book Deal After She Left
By signing up I agree to the Privacy Policy. I also agree to receive periodic emails with offers and promotional marketing messages from Life & Style.
Fans were sad to see DeShawn Snow leave after the first season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, but her off-screen life became so dramatic, she was glad the cameras weren't rolling. In 2012, she told AttaGirl, "Since then, I've had a lot of drama in my life, but I'm thankful that the cameras weren't there!"
In 2010, DeShawn went through a nasty divorce with her husband of 12 years, former NBA player Eric Snow. The former reality star — who has three sons with him: Eric, Darius and Jarren — told the publication that she was trying to move on the best she could. "I'm great. I'm excited to make things happen. I'm definitely moving forward, I'm growing through this. Since I've been on the show, I've been doing a lot of reflecting, a lot of writing, a lot of healing."
All that writing eventually catapulted DeShawn into a children's book author with her series, Lil Shawnee. Plus, she even shed 30 pounds following her split. "I felt everything was out of my control," the now 44-year-old told Us Weekly in 2011. "I had no control over anything that was happening in my life and the weight and working out was something I could control."
She added that her trainer and good friend, Trey Crump, motivated her to push past her relationship troubles. "[When] Trey heard [of my divorce], he texted me and was like 'Meet me at the gym at 6 a.m.'
He didn't ask me any questions, we just worked out. That was his way of getting me out of bed and then once I started, I just got consistent."
These days, it appears the Bravo alum enjoys spending time wither her kids — based on her social media — and sharing messages of positivity with her fans. "All of my projects are basically to empower and encourage young women," she told Us. "The hardest thing in life is to believe that things happen for a reason. You can't be a victim, you have to be a victor — press through it — and know that success is the best revenge."
She looks GREAT!

#HIPHOPNEWS: Drake’s “God’s Plan” Breaks U.S. Spotify Record
Just a few days after its official January 19 release, Drake’s latest single “God’s Plan” is already breaking Spotify records in the United States.
The track, which appears on his Scary Hours project, has set a new domestic record for the most amount of streams in a single day, after it achieved 4,326,679 streams on Monday (January 22), according to chart data.
Drake took to Instagram on Tuesday night (January 23) to react to the news. In his post, the Toronto artist simultaneously congratulated LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, who earlier that night surpassed Kobe Bryant to become the youngest NBA player to reach 30,000 regular-season points.
The 6 God later revealed he was heading back to the studio, inspired by LeBron’s latest achievement.
“It seems like every time we look up, you’re setting another milestone or breaking another record and I always tell you [that] you’re one of the most inspirational people in my life. I’m honored to call you a brother.” Drake said in a video released via LeBron’s media company, Uninterrupted. “Every time you do something like this, I always try and get in the studio and make the song that would go with the moment, so I’m excited to go to work tonight.”
Of course, Drake is no stranger to breaking records. In August of last year, Drake’s unprecedented, eight-year run on the Billboard Top 100 came to an end. Nevertheless, Drizzy still holds the record for the solo artist with the most career entries on the Hot 100.
#ELTON: Elton John will be retiring after a massive, 300-date tour
Earlier this week, Neil Diamond announced that he’s retiring from touring, effective immediately, with his remaining shows being canceled in the wake of a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. Today, Elton John announced that he’s also going to retire from touring, though his decision thankfully didn’t come in response to a doctor’s advice. As reported by Variety, John has announced a three-year, 300-date tour called “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” that will start in the U.S. later this year and run until some time in 2021.
He says he’s not going to be “one of those people” that does a big world tour and then decides not to retire, adding, “I’m not Cher, even though I like wearing her clothes.” John also notes that this doesn’t mean he’ll never perform live again, but if he does it’ll probably be part of a residency and it probably won’t happen outside of England—to the extent that he specifically says he won’t return to Europe, Australia, Asia, South America, and “probably not America.” In other words, this will probably be most people’s last chance to see Elton John perform live. (It also may be your last chance to see Elton John perform not live, since he says he made his oldest son promise to never make a hologram of him.)
The 2018 tour dates are below, and the rest will presumably pop up on his website in the future.

US Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar gets 175 years jail for sexually abusing more than 150 girls and women
Former US Gymnastics doctor Larry Nasser has been sentenced to up to 175 years in prison for sexually abusing more than 150 girls with a judge telling him “I just signed your death warrant”.
AFTER hearing from an astonishing 156 accusers, former US Olympic gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar has been sentenced to between 40 and 175 years in prison for molesting girls and women who went to him for treatment.
Judge Rosemarie Aquilina sentenced Nassar this morning.“I just signed your death warrant,” she said. “It is my honour and privilege to sentence you. You do not deserve to walk outside a prison ever again. You have done nothing to control those urges and anywhere you walk, destruction will occur to those most vulnerable.”
He had pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting seven females in the Lansing area between 1998 and 2015, but the hearing was open to all of his accusers.
His accusers said he would molest them while they were on a table seeking help for various injuries.
When the hearing ended, the courtroom broke into applause. Victims and prosecutors embraced at the conclusion of the gruelling 16-month case. It was the second long-term prison sentence for the 54-year-old physician. He has also been sentenced to 60 years in federal prison for child pornography crimes.
Nassar has told his sexual assault victims that “no words” can describe how sorry he is for his crimes.
Nassar turned to the courtroom gallery to make a brief statement before his sentence.
He says the testimony of more than 150 victims since last week has “shaken me to my core.”
“I will carry your words with me for the rest of my days,” he said as many of his accusers openly wept.
But Judge Aquilina said his words were hollow and read from a letter he had submitted to the court just last week to prove her point.
“What I did in the state cases was medical, not sexual, but because of the [federal porn conviction] I lost all credibility,” he wrote. “So I’m trying to avoid a trial to save the stress to my community, my family. But look what’s happening. It’s wrong.”
“I was a good doctor, because my treatments worked and those patients that are now speaking out were the same ones that praised and came back over and over,” wrote Nassar. “The media convinced them that it was wrong and bad. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.”
“Now [the victims] are seeking the media attention and financial reward,” he wrote.
Judge Aquilina said she did not accept his apology as genuine.
“This letter tells me you have still not owned what it is that you did. That you still think you’re right, a doctor,” she told him. “I wouldn’t send my dogs to you, sir.”
Prosecutor Angela Povilaitis said she hoped there would be a shift in society so victims didn’t have to suffer in silence and fear.
“It takes some kind of sick perversion to not only assault a child but to do so with her parent in the room,” she said. “To do so while a line-up of eager young gymnasts waited.”
She described the “breadth and ripple” of Nassar’s sexual abuse as “nearly infinite.”
“What does it say about our society that victims of sexual abuse have to hide their pain for years when they did nothing wrong? What does it say about our society when victims do come forward ... and are treated as liars until proven true?” Ms Povilaitis said.
One of the first athletes to publicly accuse Nassar of sexual assault was the last victim to offer a statement at the hearing.
Rachael Denhollander is a Kentucky lawyer who stepped forward in 2016 after the sport’s governing body was accused of mishandling complaints of sexual assault.
She said Nassar groped, fondled and penetrated her with his hands when she was a 15-year-old gymnast in Michigan.
Denhollander’s statements to Michigan State University police put the criminal investigation in high gear in 2016.
“You have become a man ruled by selfish and perverted desires,” she told Nassar. “The sentence rendered today will send a message across this country. And so I ask, how much is a little girl worth? How much is a young women worth?’
After the sentencing, the United States Olympic Committee said it will hold an independent investigation into the sex abuse scandal which has rocked USA gymnastics.
In an open letter, USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun said the probe would seek to establish “who knew what and when.”
“The USOC has decided to launch an investigation by an independent third party to examine how an abuse of this proportion could have gone undetected for so long,” Mr Blackmun wrote.
‘KUWTK’ Producers Demand Judge Shut Down Blac Chyna’s Document Witch Hunt
A few days ago it was reported, The Kardashians filed legal docs asking the judge to toss Chyna’s case… The Judge agreed to dismiss the reality star’s lawsuit against Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner.
Chyna’s lawyer, Lisa Bloom, squared off in court Thursday with Kardashian lawyer Shawn Holley. Holley was gunning for the judge to get her clients dismissed from the case, and the judge saw her point.
Now… The producers behind “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” are pleading with a judge to put the kibosh on Blac Chyna and her attempt to force them to hand over tens of thousands of documents.
On January 16, Bunim-Murray Productions, the company behind “KUWTK,” filed docs as part of Rob Kardashian and Kylie Jenner’s lawsuit against Blac Chyna.
The company explains that Chyna fired off a subpoena demanding they turn over all documents in their possession which include discussion of her, Rob or other members of the Kardashian family
Meryl Streep to Star in 'Big Little Lies' Season 2!
Meryl Streep has just joined the all-star cast of Big Little Lies season 2!
The legendary actress will play the role of Mary Louise Wright, who is the mother of Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard) and mother in law of Celeste (Nicole Kidman). Spoiler alert!! Alexander‘s character died at the end of season one, but there’s a rumor he will be returning as well.
THR reports that Meryl’s character is “concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren following her son Perry’s death. She arrives in Monterey searching for answers.”
So far, only Reese Witherspoon and Nicole are set to reprise their roles for season two. Zoe Kravitz, Shailene Woodley, and Laura Dern also starred in season one.
Will Caitlyn Jenner be on the next “Dancing With The Stars”?
Rumor has it, Caitlyn Jenner may be taking her talents to the small screen. Reportedly, she is in talks to be cast in the upcoming season of “Dancing with the Stars”.
Dancing with the Stars is a dance competition series hosted by Tom Bergeron, alongside Erin Andrews. The format of the show consists of a celebrity paired with a professional dancer. Each couple performs predetermined dances and competes against the others for judges’ points and audience votes. The couple receiving the lowest combined total of judges’ points and audience votes is eliminated each week until only the champion dance pair remains.
If she does agree to join the hit ABC series for it’s 26th season, the 68-year-old will be the third member of her family to do so. Kim Kardashian and brother Rob Kardashian both participated in the show.
Jenner’s rep denies that she will be on the show.
‘Murphy Brown’ Revival Set At CBS With Star Candice Bergen & Creator Diane English
Another beloved comedy series is coming back for a new installment on its original network. CBS has given a 13-episode series order to Murphy Brown, a revival of the 1988 sitcom with its creator Diane English and star Candice Bergen both set to return. Warner Bros. TV, which was behind the original series, is the sole studio.
Bergen will reprise her role as the famous investigative journalist and TV anchor at the FYI network, as Murphy Brown returns to a world of cable news, social media, fake news and a very different political and cultural climate. I hear talks are underway with other original cast members to return.
The multi-camera revival will come on the 30th anniversary of the original series. Murphy Brown aired on CBS for 10 seasons, from 1988-98, with English leaving after Season 4. The show was known for its political satire and for reflecting current events, regularly weaving in real-life political headlines. It famously was referenced by Vice President Dan Quayle in a speech during the 1992 presidential campaign.
In 2012, English said that she was having conversations with CBS about bringing Murphy Brown back for a few episodes during the election year. Chatter about a Murphy Brown revival restarted a year ago, around the time of Donald Trump’s inauguration, with rumors about English mulling an updated version to take on the new political climate and holding informal meetings with Bergen and some of the show’s former writers to brainstorm ideas. At that time, the revival was just a notion. It was a slow process, but the project finally came together, with deals closing in early January.
Because of Murphy’s Brown‘s history on CBS, the pitch, accompanied by a finished script, was taken there first. I hear CBS bought the revival pre-emptively, with WBTV retaining full ownership based on the existing IP and high profile of the competitive package. The network stepping up makes sense since Murphy Brown is a signature CBS show. NBC did the same with the new Will & Grace as did ABC with the Roseanne revival, all airing on their original networks.
CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves ran WBTV for two seasons of Murphy Brown‘s run and then oversaw the show’s final years on CBS, including the final season that saw English back at the helm and Murphy Brown battling breast cancer.
In the two-part series finale — aptly titled “Never Can Say Goodbye,” in light of the upcoming revival — Murphy contemplated retirement. While under anesthesia for a surgery that ultimately confirmed she was cancer-free, she scored an interview with God, who convinced her to stay at FYI. In the final scene, Murphy returned home to find that that her former house painter Eldin (Robert Pastorelli) was back.
English serves as writer/executive producer of the CBS revival through her Bend in the Road Productions banner, with Bergen also executive producing. The series is expected to film a pilot episode followed by the rest of the order.
During its original run, Murphy Brown won 18 Emmys — including two Outstanding Comedy Series trophies and five best lead comedy actress statuettes for Bergen — three Golden Globes, two DGA Awards and two WGA Awards.
With Murphy Brown back on CBS, three of the Big 4 networks have a top comedy returning with its original creative auspices and stars, along with Will & Grace on NBC and Roseanne on ABC. The critical and commercial success of the Will & Grace redo, which has been earning award recognition and has ranked as NBC’s highest-rated comedy series, no doubt has helped fuel the current interest in reviving some of TV’s top comedies of the past few decades and the ongoing resurgence of the multi-camera sitcom format.
Murphy Brown is one of two straight-to-series orders at CBS for next season, along with an FBI drama from Law & Order and Chicago boss Dick Wolf.
English and Bergen are repped by ICM Partners. English also is with Jackoway Tyerman.
