The Daily Buzz For Feb 8

Oscar-Nominee Naomie Harris for New York Magazine: Doesn't Think She'll Win, Says it’s VIOLA’s year!
Naomie Harris, who has continually distinguished herself as a mother-freaking dream, is on the cover of New York Magazine's spring issue and she knocks the whole situation out of poignant park.
Here are the four greatest things we learnt from the Naomie Harris profile.

1. Naomie Harris wants you to get out of here with your "everything-is-totally-bitchin'-with-race-now-in-Hollywood-that-black-people-in-Hollywood-are-nominated" nonsense.
Like Viola Davis recently, Harris, who also starred in an Academy Awards front-runner (Moonlight) playing the strung-out mother of a gay son, hits out at the common notion that the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag that trended on social media last year had anything to do with the premiere lineup of black actors this year.

"I know that everyone thinks this year is a response to that whole campaign. When, in fact, these films were in production or preproduction for years before all of this. So they aren't actually a response to that whole argument. So I don't like the way that they're used as a response to that. And people are saying, you know, 'Isn't it amazing in a year how things have changed as a result of that campaign?'"
2. Naomie Harris, naturally, is not about Trump's immigration ban.

Harris, whose parents are both immigrants hailing respectively from Jamaica and Trinidad, tells NY Magazine that the current approach towards immigrants in American and British politics (remember Brexit?) is hugely "regressive".

"Because the whole foundation of these countries — America in particular — is based on immigration. Britain wouldn't be the country it is without immigration. So it's madness. It just seems so retrograde to talk about these ideas now, at a time when the world is just becoming smaller and more interconnected. And now, to want to take a step backward, almost to the dark ages, where, you know, 'We want monocultures and mono-races,' it just seems really … yeah, regressive. And very sad."
3. Naomie Harris feels sorry for Tom Hiddleston, like us all.

After Tom Hiddleston's unfortunate Golden Globe acceptance speech, during which he humble-bragged in a big way or, as he stipulated in his apology later, expressed himself "inelegantly", Harris and her look of disappointment became a viral meme.
"I really sympathize with Tom," she says, "because I think it's so easy, under the pressure of those moments … to find yourself going down the path of telling a story and as you're telling it, think, This is not what I want to say, it's not how I mean it to go, but you're kind of trapped on that train and you can't stop … And then ridiculing a person for that … I just think it's so mean!"

4. Finally, Naomie Harris is grateful for your Oscar nod, but does not expect to win, doesn't think she should win.
"It's not going to happen. It's Viola [Davis]'s year, you know?"
Perhaps Naomie, but that doesn't stop you from being a 10/10, all-round great gal.

#RHoA: Sheree Whitfield Asks Her RHOA Co-Stars To “Leave Porsha Williams Alone!”
Sheree Whitfield is back on RHOA for her, “take-over,” and she’s attempted many times to be the peace maker in the group; however she has an odd way of trying to solve the group’s issues!
Sheree has been an open book this season, and she’s expecting the same from her co-stars. While some are viewing her behavior as dramatic and gossipy, she thinks it’s the only way to be fair with this many dynamic women!

In this week’s Bravo Blog Sheree revealed why she told Shamea what Phaedra had been saying about her, and admitted that she has no idea why the RHOA ladies won’t just “leave Porsha alone!”
“First, congratulations to Shamea on her engagement! I wish her all the best on her journey to becoming a ‘Mrs.’ When we were at the engagement celebration, Phaedra’s name came up in the conversation, and I think it was only fair to give Shamea an opportunity to address the rumor,” Sheree defended.

Then she complimented Porsha for the way she handled her “confrontation” about spilling the beans to Shamea, and it was rare to see someone uplifting Porsha; this group has a habit of putting her down! “I respected Porsha for how she handled herself. I think it was mature of her to pull me aside from the group and address me one-on-one. She gets an “A” for conflict resolution,” Sheree dished.
Even further, she condemned her co-stars for constantly trying to make Porsha look bad, and even accused them of trying to make her reach a point of no return! “Have these ladies not learned anything? Leave Porsha alone! It seems that some of these ladies are looking for Porsha to react in a specific way and they won’t be satisfied until they get the reaction they are looking for. You can’t keep poking the bear and not expect it to attack,” Sheree wrapped.

I’m with Sheree, why are these ladies always talking about Porsha’s rage; it’s like they are trying to see her explode. I’m proud of Porsha for keeping it classy, I’m not so sure I could do the same!

Thoughts on Sheree’s blog? Is Sheree being a gossip queen this season?

#EMPIRE: Taraji P. Henson Shares Why Attending The Super Bowl was Especially Emotional For Her
Attending the Super Bowl was an emotional experience for Taraji P. Henson. Not because she was rooting for the Atlanta Falcons, but because her father wasn’t there.
The award-winning actress and star of “Empire” said her late father was a huge football fan and would have loved to be able to attend a Super Bowl.

It’s a big deal for me because I lost my dad and football was such a big part of us on Sundays. My stepmom would cook and we would watch football.
I love being this close to it and wished he was actually alive to go to a Super Bowl ’cause he’s never been to a Super Bowl.
Taraji P. Henson still had a great time and even snapped pics with Ludacris before the Falcons’ devastating loss.

Music News: Deborah Cox To Release ‘The Bodyguard Musical’ Ep
Veteran artist and Broadway star Deborah Cox has been wowing audiences with her renditions of Whitney Houston classics in The Bodyguard musical.

Now, the Grammy-nominated singer has revealed that she has plans to release an EP of recorded versions of songs from the stage play.
“There will be a new EP coming out with eight songs, probably the most requested songs from the musical because everyone has asked will I do a soundtrack or a cast album, so this is the opportunity for people to hear me on the songs,” she told The Source. “It’ll be available towards the end of February.”

According to fan accounts, Cox has been giving incredible performances of iconic Whitney Houston songs like “I Will Always Love You,” “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “Greatest Love of All.”
“Our beloved Whitney is an artist we treasure and we love her legacy of music, so this show really has a lot of that in it,” Cox adds. “I know and understand the integrity that needs to be kept with the show and the storytelling. Myself and the cast we really try to honor that onstage.”

Judson Mills plays Cox’s bodyguard in the musical, which she says is probably her biggest role to date.
“I sing 13 songs and there’s a lot of dancing and a lot of singing on top of that with intense scenes,” she says. “It’s a suspense, it’s a thriller, it’s a love story, it’s very engaging so you just have to be on it. It’s like a whirlwind of sorts and I’m telling this story and there’s a lot of moving parts. It’s probably the biggest role I’ve taken on.”

The Bodyguard: The Musical is currently on tour across the U.S. with limited engagements in major cities throughout the year. Tickets are available here.

NBA Star J.R. Smith Finally Holds His Premature Baby: ‘Today Is One of the Greatest Days of My Life’
Cleveland Cavaliers star J.R. Smith says holding his preemie baby for the first time was one of “the greatest days” of his life.

One month after Smith and his wife Jewel Harris announced that she’d given birth to their daughter, Dakota, very prematurely  — the NBA star shared a photo on social media of the tender moment he held their baby for the first time.
“Today is one of the greatest days of my life. Today I get to hold my youngest for the first time! GOD is GREAT! #DakotaStrong,” Smith, 31, captioned the Instagram snap, posted on Monday.
Smith and Harris, who have been married since last August, shared news of Dakota’s early birth in a video posted to Uninterrupted on January 7.

“We’ve got very important news,” J.R. said in the video.
“Hi, everybody,” Jewel added. “We decided to share with the world what’s been going on with our family the past five days. We know a lot of you guys congratulated us on the expectancy of our little baby girl, but we had her five months early. She’s five days old today and her name is Dakota and she weighs one pound.”
Jewel went on to explain the couple’s motives for reaching out to the public.

“We know we’re not the only family going through this, who has been through this, and who will ever go through it. That’s why we decided to share what we’re going through with you guys. Please keep us in your prayers and we’ll do the same for everyone else.”
Dakota remains hospitalized in the NICU as J.R. and his family stay by her side.
Harris has been posting updates on Dakota on her blog, mykotabear.com.
“I am so grateful to have seen this day, for over two hours her and I soaked in each other’s presence. The numbers on her monitors told me this experience was all that and a bag of chips for her; the look and smile on my face did the very same for me,” Harris writes on her blog. “Next In line was daddy also known as poppa bear 🙂 when I tell you this man was skinning and grinning I felt his energy it was vibrant and contagious.”

Jamie Lynn Spears' Husband Gives Update on Maddie's Recovery
Jamie Lynn Spears' Husband Gives Update on Maddie's Recovery
Jamie Watson, the husband of country singer Jamie Lynn Spears, is speaking out to give an update on her daughter Maddie‘s recovery after a scary ATV accident over the weekend.
The eight-year-old girl was riding solo in an ATV at the family home in Louisiana on Sunday (February 5) when she tried to maneuver over a ditch and toppled into a pond. The safety belt and netting on the vehicle trapped her underwater and both Jamie and Jamie were unable to free her from the restraints, according to details in the police report.

Emergency helpers arrived on the scene within minutes and were able to free Maddie and resuscitate her. Thankfully as of today, she has regained consciousness and is alert and talking.
“Thank everyone for the prayers. Maddie is doing better and better. Thank y’all so much,” Jamie captioned an Instagram photo of a shirt with the words, “Believe in miracles.”

Rosie O’donnell Answers Twitter’s Call For Her To Play Steve Bannon On ‘SNL’
*Hyped by Melissa McCarthy’s classic turn on “Saturday Night Live” as White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, — and reports that President Trump was not happy about Spicer being portrayed by a woman because it made Spicer “look weak” — Twitter is now hitting up Trump nemesis Rosie O’Donnell to play the president’s Chief Advisor, Steve Bannon.

After a Twitter user suggested the role to O’Donnell, she was immediately receptive, replying: “I am here to serve.”
That was all Twitter needed to hear.
A movement is now afoot to make this portrayal a reality. Users have bombarded the “Saturday Night Live” Twitter account to push for the casting, which would replace last Saturday’s portrayal of Bannon as the Grim Reaper calling all of the shots.
On Monday, Politico reported that the Trump White House was “rattled” by McCarthy’s portrayal of Spicer as incompetent and angry during daily White House briefings, but the fact that he was portrayed by a woman rankled Trump’s the most, according to the report.

Should Rosie suit up as Bannon, it would likely send Trump over the edge, since the two have been in a feud since Rosie made fun of his hair and referred to him as “a snake oil salesman” on “The View” back in 2006, calling him “a snake oil salesman.”

Trump, in turn, has insulted O’Donnell’s appearance. During one of the GOP primary debates, Megyn Kelly noted Trump had “called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals.” Trump responded that he’d only said those things about O’Donnell.
