The Daily Buzz For Nov 9

Young Jeezey ‘TRAP KING” speaks to Rolling Out Magazine
Most of us became familiar with Jeezy’s views from the trap during the winter of 2005. While the notion of “Trap or Die” initially highlighted the desperation of selling drugs to avoid dying in poverty, rap music is now in a perpetual state of trap or die. If new rap music isn’t trap, it usually dies a quick and forgettable death. Jeezy, and producer Shawty Redd helped to usher in the trap sound, which often features heavy 808 drums, thick snares, and haunting organs. But it was Jeezy’s vivid descriptions and details of the trap that made the project feel like an audio documentary of street life.

“My whole thing was to talk about what was really going on,” Jeezy said during an interview in West Midtown Atlanta. “But I was giving so much game [about the streets], people kind of looked at it like I was dry snitching. But that’s the only thing I knew. I’m from the streets; I can tell you how to be in the streets and survive. That was my mind state and it just felt like I had to be overly honest. I feel like that was my connection; that was my win. … People were telling me that Trap or Die could be my album and I told them my album is going to be better. I want to talk to the streets and then I’m going to go for the world.”

Jeezy would eventually capture the world’s attention with his platinum-selling debut, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, and the subsequent albums that followed, The Inspiration, The Recession, and TM: 103. He was able to make street life more palatable to the masses with mainstream hits such as “Soul Survivor,” “Go Getta,” and “Put On.”

But as a new generation of rappers who claimed the trap emerged, Jeezy decided to serve as the big brother who could preach the game. With his last album, Church in These Streets, Jeezy transformed the Snowman into Pastor Young. Although the overall message was needed, Jeezy received mixed reviews from the project.

“I felt like it needed to happen ‘cause that’s where I was at,” Jeezy explained. “I just had got incarcerated, I was going through my trials as a Black man. That was my only vehicle, my only weapon to fight back. So, I used it with my music. In hindsight, I had to realize they didn’t want Martin Luther King from me; they wanted the Snowman. So, I would rather give them what they want cause that’s what I am able to speak. I can use the music as a platform to speak. [There are] too many people they can get it from. I felt like it was a great body of work, but it was more art than it was street. It’s like that with the streets because they want to celebrate. No matter how much the game changes, [there will] always be some young cats and older cats that need that motivation ’cause they need to feel it. If they get it from you, then they want to continue getting it from you.” Indeed. Get more HERE

#RHoA: NeNe Leakes Goes Nuclear After Being Accused of Hating on Porsha Williams
Don’t come for NeNe Leakes, she’s clearly not the one. The Real Housewives of Atlanta diva let a heckler in the audience have it this weekend during a stand-up comedy show.
Someone asked her why was she hating on former cast mate Porsha Williams and she went off.

“You wanna ask me why I am hating on Porsha,” she said. “You tell me when you seen me hate on Porsha.”

She denied the rumors, and told the audience member “to please get their information right.” But in true NeNe fashion, she didn’t stop there without a final touch of shade. “If you wanna know who the real hater is — watch Dish Nation, bitch.” ICYMI, Williams is currently working as an on-air host for Dish Nation.

Oh? Nicki Minaj Accused of Trying to Shake Down Nightclub, Company To Sue For Fraud
Oh Snap according to our friends over at thejasminebrand.com Nicki Minaj is accused of conspiring to shake down a Las Vegas nightclub for an extra $200,000 related to a club appearance. The rapper/singer now faces being sued for fraud by the company who booked the gig, due to their belief she lied about her relationship with a concert booker.
Here’s the latest: On November 2nd, Fantastic Entertainment Enterprises filed docs in the case explaining they now believe Nicki conspired to defraud them out of $200k. The company says they uncovered new evidence regarding Nicki’s relationship with Epitome – the company she said she didn’t know previously.

F.E.E. believes the singer/rapper and Epitome worked together in a fraudulent scheme to try to get more money out of them for Nicki’s “performance” at the event.
Originally, they believed Epitome was one of Nicki’s agents until 2 of her lawyers informed them they had no idea who Epitome was and had no relationship with them. However, through discovery in the lawsuit they have learned that is blatantly false.
A representative of Nicki, Ms. Angela Ford, testified that prior to the Las Vegas gig, they had worked with Epitome on other occasions.
They add, Ms. Ford even personally knew Epitome’s principal, Mr. Anthony Botter, and referred to him by his nickname, “Blitz”. Plaintiff has uncovered that not only did Epitome and Defendants know each other, but they had worked together in the past and have had a relationship in the past.

The company believes Epitome continues to book events for Nicki and therefore has reason to believe there is a relationship between the two and they conspired together to try and shake down the club for an extra $200k.
According to court docs, a rep for the rapper/singer showed up to the club hours before the event and demanded an extra $200,000 from the club or they couldn’t record her during the event. They strongly believe that Nicki and Epitome worked together to alter the contract they signed and take out the provision allowing the club to record the singer.

F.E.E. says if Nicki had any part in switching the language of the contract, such action constitutes fraud and they are demanding the judge allow them to amend their lawsuit to add that claim against the singer.
Nicki and her company deny the new allegations saying the new “fraud-based theories make no sense” and are no plausibly based on any new information learned in discovery.
A victim of fraud knows who mislead it and by what means it was misled.

Here’s the backstory: A company named Fantastic Entertainment Enterprises filed suit against Nicki Minaj’s company Pink Personality for ruining a Vegas club appearance they paid her for in 2015.

The suit explained an appearance agreement was signed by Nicki to show up and perform at Chateau Night Club in the Paris Hotel on May 2nd, directly following Floyd Mayweather’s fight with Pacquiao.

Per the deal, Nicki was to arrive at the club at midnight, she would remain at the club for at least an hour and perform 2 songs. The company agreed to pay the rap queen a total of 236k for her appearance and also cover her transportation and accommodation costs.
However, they said Nicki failed to follow the terms of the deal she signed. They claim she didn’t show up till 1:19am, stayed only for 34 minutes and refused to perform 2 songs at the club. They also accused her security guard of arriving to the club and disconnecting their equipment that was set up to film the event (not only Nicki’s appearance) and as a result they lost even more money.

The company sent Nicki’s team a letter in May demanding a refund of the money they paid her, but they have refused for months and have not paid back a dime.
F.E.E. demanded the return of the 236k paid to Nicki along with damages for the money she caused them to lose. Nicki  responded, explaining she never signed any contract with Fantastic Entertainment Enterprises but rather with another company named Jam House Inc.
The pop star said she performed all the contractual obligations the night of the appearance. She admits she was paid 150k to show up for an hour and perform 2 songs, which she claims she did.

The singer accused the company of filing a copy of an altered contract with their lawsuit. Nicki explained that the agreement filed includes terms that she never approved or had knowledge of previously.
She added all terms of the contract were completed fully the night of her appearance and if there was anything she didn’t do it was due to unreasonable expectations, unforeseeable events or fraud.
Nicki demanded the entire lawsuit be thrown out. Then shortly after, she returned to court and filed a counter-suit against Jam House. She explains that while negotiating the deal for the club appearance her people dealt with a middle man named Anthony Botter (aka Blitz) who owns and operates The Epitome Group.

She said that she signed the contract and sent it back to Epitome Group. However, she has learned there were 2 contracts drafted by the company and the 2nd one she didn’t see had provided for more compensation to be paid to her. Nicki never signed the 2nd agreement.
Nicki accused either Jam House or Epitome of keeping the extra money beyond the $150k. She filed suit demanding the judge not hold her liable for any judgement the club is awarded in their lawsuit, saying she didn’t do anything wrong and fulfilled all her duties on the contract.

Everyone agrees: Viola Davis is going to win an Oscar for ‘Fences’
Viola is committed to campaigning for Best Supporting Actress, every single person is lining up behind her to back her for the Oscar this year. Fences was just screened for various guilds (SAG, DGA, etc) and the early reports are “Viola Davis is going to win an Oscar this year.”

Vulture’s Kyle Buchanan writes, flat-out, “Best Supporting Actress, though … well, you can put that category to bed. Denzel Washington’s Fences screened in Los Angeles this past weekend, and there’s no doubt in my mind that Viola Davis will win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for it.” Variety’s Kristopher Tapley agreed, and wrote about the film: “As for Davis, the Academy can probably go ahead and engrave the statue. Due respect and appreciation to Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Nicole Kidman and the rest of this year’s supporting actress contenders, who give exceptional performances and will rightly be in the thick of the conversation — but this race just ended.”

There’s a lot of love and respect being paid to Denzel Washington too, who not only stars but directed the film too. This is his passion project, and he was vital in organizing the money for the Broadway revival in 2010 and for getting the play adapted into this film. Denzel, it seems, is ready for his third Oscar. People kind of doubt that he’ll be recognized for Best Director, but he seems like a shoo-in for a Best Actor nomination, for sure.

Details From the That's So Raven Reboot
Last month actress Raven Symone announced she was leaving The View to return to The Disney Channel for 'That's So Raven II
Now we have some details from the new show...
Raven has already revealed that the show will revolve around a grown up Raven Baxter who is now a single mother of two.

Here's the deets on Raven's new TV kids,Nia, Raven's bold and confident daughter who frequently finds herself in over her head. She's well-intentioned and won't give up when she sets her mind to something (even if it gets her into trouble), and always wants to help people and do what's right. She just started middle school and is great at science (though average in other subjects)—and her life gets way more complicated when she suddenly gets the power to see visions of the future.
Booker, Raven's sweet, naive younger son, a young Donald Glover type. He's gullible and innocent and in no rush to grow up—and is an unapologetic mama's boy. He won't do something bad unless he's tricked into it (which is pretty easy to do), but will stand up for himself when he finally catches on to what's happening.
Production for the as-yet-unamed show is scheduled to begin in early 2017.
